Covers

Hey, would you be able to find covers for the Chaosium publications Alone Against the Wendigo, Spawn of Azathoth, The Dreaming Stone, The Great Old Ones (Call of Cthulhu), The King Arthur Companion, The Sea Elves, Tournament of Dreams, Trail of Tsathogghua, Trollpak, Trouble for HAVOC, Horror's Heart, and Terror Australis: Call of Cthulhu in the Land Down Under? BOZ (talk) 20:26, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Yes, I have access to all of them, and will add them as I do infoboxes. I just need to get the hang of uploading the correct size. If there are more needed just point me at the articles. Sciencefish (talk) 09:01, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Sure, thanks! I have a long (you don't want to know, LOL) list of non-Chaosium books too, but that is up to you if you want to branch out like that. BOZ (talk) 13:26, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
I can likely do, Traveller, Exalted, TORG, and quite a few others too. I'm currently going through the Expand stub - Origins Award winners to expand:, with the ones I can add infoboxes and covers to.
OK gotcha - get through these when you can, and I will look into those. :) BOZ (talk) 13:41, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Allright, if you want to hook up some Torg articles, the only ones lacking covers right now are The Destiny Map, The Living Land, The Nile Empire, and The Possibility Chalice. :) BOZ (talk) 17:26, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

OK, for Traveller, I have a much longer list, so just get to these when and however you can. Most of it is GDW publications but that game is the one RPG possibly most covered by third-party publishers, so you will find a bunch of those as well. Get the ones you can, and don't worry about the rest. :) Adventure Class Ships, Vol. I, Alien Realms, The Drenslaar Quest, The Mountain Environment, The Traveller Book, The Traveller Logbook, The Undersea Environment, Traveller Adventure 5: Trillion Credit Squadron, Traveller Adventure 8: Prison Planet, Traveller Adventure 9: Nomads of the World-Ocean, Traveller Adventure 10: Safari Ship, Traveller Adventure 11: Murder on Arcturus Station, Traveller Adventure 12: Secret of the Ancients, Traveller Adventure 13: Signal GK, Traveller Alien Module 1: Aslan, Traveller Alien Module 2: K'kree, Traveller Alien Module 3: Vargr, Traveller Alien Module 4: Zhodani, Traveller Alien Module 6: Solomani, Traveller Alien Module 7: Hivers, Traveller Alien Module 8: Darrians, Traveller Book 0: An Introduction to Traveller, Traveller Book 6: Scouts, Traveller Book 7: Merchant Prince, Traveller Book 8: Robots, Traveller Double Adventure 2: Mission on Mithril/Across the Bright Face, Traveller Double Adventure 4: Marooned/Marooned Alone, Traveller Double Adventure 6: Divine Intervention/Night of Conquest, Traveller Personal Data Files, Traveller Record Sheets, Traveller Starter Edition, Traveller Supplement 8: Library Data (A-M), Traveller Supplement 9: Fighting Ships, Traveller Supplement 11: Library Data (N-Z), Traveller Supplement 12: Forms and Charts, Traveller Supplement 13: Veterans. BOZ (talk) 14:00, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

I'll do the GDW ones first as I have all of those on a CD. The others I only have physical copies.
Great work on these! :) Ping me and let me know if there are more games you want to work on like this. BOZ (talk) 13:48, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
I've got all the others so should finished in a week. I can likely do more traveller as I've the CDROMs for New era and T4, and lots of odds and ends.
The only other Traveller supplements I've got right now are Wanted: Adventurers and ZISMV: Vlezhdatl, although I will probably start more articles sooner or later. ;) BOZ (talk) 15:18, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
I realize I had previously missed The Traveller Adventure. BOZ (talk) 13:37, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

I tallied up the articles on my covers list to see what games had the most need. None of them had anywhere near as many as Traveller, but the most covers are needed for Champions, Rolemaster, and Star Trek (FASA). A few each are needed for DC Heroes, Ars Magica, Atlantis/Talislanta, Shadowrun, The Morrow Project, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Middle-earth Role Playing, and Call of Cthulhu (third party publishers). More than one but very few are needed for Cyberspace, Ghostbusters, RuneQuest (third party), Hero System, Twilight 2000, Star Frontiers, Marvel Super Heroes (TSR), James Bond 007, Palladium Fantasy RPG, and Empire of the Petal Throne; after that, I have a bunch of single supplements per game, generic supplements, and one-off RPGs that may be a challenge to find images for. Any of those you think you would be interested in, let me know and I will give you a list. :) BOZ (talk) 17:40, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Can your covers list be done as a to do list on an RPG project subpage? then you can just add to it as needed and I (or anyone else) can work through it. Sciencefish (talk) 10:35, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
I can set it up as a user subpage for now, next week when I have a moment. I don't have it organized by game, though. BOZ (talk) 15:34, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
I started up User:BOZ/ImagesRPG, so you can have a look at that as you have the time. Go through them in any order you like; start at the beginning, the end, or the middle, or skip around randomly. Add covers wherever you can, and just ignore the rest. :) I will add more articles as I create or find them, and you can feel free to remove them from the page rather than striking them out as you add them - I will remove anything that anyone else adds a cover for first. Your help is super appreciated! BOZ (talk)
I have added more articles to my page, in case you have covers for any of those. :) BOZ (talk) 17:01, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
I added a few more to the images page just now. :) BOZ (talk) 14:26, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

COI

I know you've declared a COI on your userpage, but there are some other items in here that you should read and consider.

Information icon Hello, Sciencefish. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Canterbury Tail talk 15:09, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi there. Heads up, please refrain from adding links to a company's site or a roleplaying line to an article about a specific supplement. External links must be about the article subject and a generic link to the Chaosium CoC page is not about those supplements. Thanks. Canterbury Tail talk 15:29, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank's for your heads up (I am still new to all of this) I was copying the style from other CoC pages I found using the {{official| }} template. Can you point me to an explanation of use of the {{official| }} template in relation to WP:EL. Thanks Sciencefish (talk) 17:06, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
Well it's not really to do with the Official link, it's just that links need to be about the article subject itself and the official link to the CoC catalogue page contains zero information on those supplements. A link to an actual page on the supplement specifically may be relevant, but only if it contains encyclopaedic information that's not already in the Wikipedia article (Per WP:ELNO #1). It's absolutely fine to use the Official template to link but the page must be specifically about the subject, thus it's often (but certainly not mandated) used only on main pages for subject areas like companies, main game line etc.
An ultimate unfortunate fact is on these topics, that most RPG supplements just aren't individually notable for the encyclopaedia. As a roleplayer I won't challenge the articles, and will help out on them, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone comes along at some point in the future and nominates them for deletion. For instance Horror's Heart just isn't a notable supplement unlike Masks of Nyarlathotep. Canterbury Tail talk 18:03, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
I agree on the notability, I'm just providing cover pics for those that don't have them and trying to update info. I'm surprised that Horror's Heart even has a page. Sciencefish (talk) 18:27, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
I will remove external links I've added as I re-find them. Sciencefish (talk) 18:30, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
If you find some links that are specificly about those supplements, feel free to add them in if they add value. It's just the ones currently there aren't actually about the articles. Canterbury Tail talk 19:27, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
We have detailed pages for most current supplements on our product pages. However I'm not the person to add them. I also manage our resource sites mentioned on my user page, likewise I'm not the one to add links to the corresponding pages. For non-Chaosium product I will keep an eye out. NI PanC

Hi. I was going to remove that sentence about patronage as well, but the article states "Dornan, who has starred in the TV drama The Fall and the Fifty Shades film trilogy, has been made the patron of a new group that aims to raise awareness about the disease." ภץאคгöร 10:21, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

just add it back if it's notable. Sciencefish (talk) 11:24, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

But the patronage of the charity that was mentioned before has completely been removed. Do we need proper citation for that patronage that has been removed a minute ago? Fitzwilliams (talk) 12:13, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Dornan talks of mum's pancreatic cancer death ambiguously refers to "has been made the patron of a new group" and then goes on to say "NI PanC has been set up in partnership with two other charities". It doesn't actually specify if this is the group. A better citation in IMO is needed. Please take this to Talk:Jamie_Dornan. Sciencefish (talk) 12:27, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Than you. Fitzwilliams (talk) 12:48, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Citation

Hello. I wanted to say, I didn't find any proper or appropriate citation for the discographies you mentioned yesterday. I only found lyrical cites. Can they be cited? Or can I cite the YouTube video links? Fitzwilliams (talk) 18:52, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

RAF Northolt

Hi, thanks for the message - I couldn't find anything to do with the Sea King claim at Northolt during the 2021 Olympic Games, but I do actually work there (since 1995) as was there during the time of the games. The Typhoons were there, the AW169 that flew under Tower Bridge and "The Queen" jumped out of was also there and so was one of the Dutch Merlin's that we took off of the production line at Yeovil for British support in Afghanistan temporarily painted in the Agusta Westland colours.

We had a few visiting RAF Chinnoks with troops on board but at no time did we have any Sea Kings based here.

HMS Ocean was based at Greenwich, is there any evidence of the Sea King's operating from there?

What do you think we should do about the erroneous BBC News claim?

Branbdenburg House

At least put in the alternative spelling and a link then. You could have put it in the gallery? Broichmore (talk) 13:11, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

I'm trying to cut the article down so the structure can be reworked. The article is already crowded with images.[MOS:IMAGES]] suggests that "Rather than including an image gallery on an article, which could add significantly to the download size, consider creating a gallery/category on the Wikimedia Commons instead." Likewise Images used in articles, MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE says "Images must be significant and relevant in the topic's context". A building no longer present in an area isn't notable. It may be notable in an another article. I would suggest any future Fulham related images be added to a commons gallery where it could be included with say [1] Sciencefish (talk) 13:34, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Steve perrin & greg stafford 2018.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Steve perrin & greg stafford 2018.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 13:13, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Simulated reality in fiction

I have doubts if Riddler's box is a virtual reality device. I couldn't find any reliable source other than blogs and reddit treads.

https://fantasymerchant.com/2020/04/05/the-holographic-fantasies-of-edward-nygma-an-analysis-of-batman-forever/

I have watched all the movies I edited on this list.

Some fall into a bordeline category called "dream hacking", which includes The City of Lost Children.

https://sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/dream_hacking — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vitruvius Rufus (talkcontribs) 21:17, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

@Vitruvius Rufus:, please note that watching the movies is original research. If it doesn't have a source other than blogs and reddit threads then it's not notable and the entry shouldn't be included, please read Wikipedia:Citing_sources. You must add a source to each of your entries other than a wikilink, as Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Sciencefish (talk) 09:59, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

"This "pseudo-list" method is deprecated, as it does not meet Web standards and can cause accessibility problems. Instead, USE ONE OF MORE FORMATTED LIST STYLES DEFINED ABOVE."

Did you read that last sentence? It says there that we can use one of the formatted styles above which is the br / style. Hope you understood it. Milkychocolates (talk) 23:31, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

As the post on your talk page says: you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. You need to add the references to the text itself and not in the edit summary. Likewise, you can't usually use the primary sources, the books themselves as references, see WP:PSTS Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources and primary sources. Secondary or tertiary sources are needed to establish the topic's notability and avoid novel interpretations of primary sources. Sciencefish (talk) 12:20, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Follow-up - deletion of article

Note that I have deleted the article 'Moon Design Publications' under the A7 criteria for deletion, namely there was no credible importance or significance asserted for the company. Please review WP:ORG, and if you believe that 'Moon Design Publications' meets the notability criteria for inclusion outlined therein, I would suggest starting an article in your user subspace using the article wizard which will guide you through the creation process. This will give you extra time to work on the article at your leisure without worrying it will be immediately deleted. Once it is complete it can then be moved into article space if sourcing and notability guidelines for inclusion are met.--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 17:46, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

You removed the dead link markers from Prince Valiant. I'm not saying you are wrong but wondering why you did so. Sultec (talk) 16:16, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Yes and the dead links themselves. The first was not archived correctly on archive.com and the second had not been archived. Flagging the links with the {{deadlink}} template (not [dead link]) would not have recovered them as the InternetArchivebot is based on archive.com. Sciencefish (talk) 17:46, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Deshauna Barber, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. I assume this was a bug or accident with the script :) Actualcpscm (talk) 09:54, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest in Miss Earth Vietnam

As far as I know, Miss Earth Vietnam currently no longer holds the copyright to participate in Miss Earth, instead it will be Miss Ethnic Vietnam from 2022. That's why, as I see it, the Vietnamese representatives at Miss Earth from 2022 must be moved to Miss Ethnic Vietnam. Partial deletion in Titleholders is because the winner was mentioned earlier at Miss Ethnic Vietnam, that's why I removed the repeat part. And finally, I sincerely apologize for deleting the content without prior notice Gharusa Latonia 15:02, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Please reconsider, undo previous edits. Once again sincerely thank you Gharusa Latonia (talk) 15:04, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Personal Instagram source

Although I almost universally agree with removing Instagram as a source in articles, there is a small exception: WP:ABOUTSELF allows the use of SPS to authenticate relatively non-controversial facts about an org or a person. Just something you might want to consider. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:12, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I'm aware of this. However this was a photo with no actual mention of the school itself (even on the uniform). Sciencefish (talk) 17:01, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

About the birth date of Drita Ziri who won Miss Earth 2023.

Modifiying the birthdate of a specific person such beauty pageant contestants, is not a violation of privacy. Remember, if you are a person whose gonna join a female or male pageants, you should be honest to your basic information such the date of your birth. Once you lied on your records, there will be consequnces those might come ahead, which you will face after you lied on your basic information such falsification of document, which is a lawsuit those people who are trying to fake their basic information just deceive a person or a firm. And I think Drita Ziri is honest about that, so you and all the other Wikipedians should never worry about the beauty queen's reputation. Adhesivecobra17 (talk) 07:10, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

This not about the guidelines of beauty pageants, it's about the requirements of Wikipedia with regards to an individuals privacy. To list a living persons date of birth, you must provide a high quality reliable source per WP:BLPPRIVACY. Sciencefish (talk) 11:46, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

⚠️ WARNING ⚠️

Please do not remove that "This is the second time to host country in India" because this is really sourced but not unsourced thank you. Joseatienza (talk) 09:47, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Please do not remove that "This is the second time to host country in India" anymore because in 1996 for the first time to host country in india thanks. Joseatienza (talk) 11:29, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the warning. Please add the text to the article body, then add a reliable source (not missworld.com as it's a primary source). Then add the information to the lead. Please read how the lead is structured in Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. I'm not sure what this warning entails as it isn't a standardWikipedia:WikiProject User warnings template. Please familiarise yourself with how this works for future reference. Sciencefish (talk) 11:41, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Please do not remove that "This is the second time to host country in India" anymore because that is really true thank you. Joseatienza (talk) 15:58, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Please stop edit warring. Please read how the lead is structured in Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. You are not understanding how wikipedia works and continuing to impose you ideal on the subject. Take this discussion to Talk:Miss World 2023 and gain consensus, before adding this again. Thank you very Much REPETITION is not allowed (talk) 11:45, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Question

Hello🥰, are you a Filipino? You're still changing the FILIPINO WORD IN TO A FILIPINA WORD? REPETITION is not allowed (talk) 11:45, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

I am following the guidelines on Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Philippines-related articles:
Filipina is used when referring to women, both as an adjective and as an adjectival noun. Examples: a Filipina poet, The company is run by a Filipina.
so in this case a Filipina politician.
If you feel this is incorrectly explained on the Philippines-related articles page, please take this to the Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Philippines-related articles, if you wish to change this and gain consenus.
I am not an expert in grammar, so am following the guidelines, as with all other country specific word usage in the manual of style. Sciencefish (talk) 12:28, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you REPETITION is not allowed (talk) 11:47, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

March 2024

Content was already in the article, supported by a reliable source that clearly stated the date and venue towards the end of the article. All that was done was adjustments to the article in order to adhere to established policies and guidelines. EdrianJustine (talk) 14:57, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

A bit more care

Hi. I'm all for removing needless bolding, etc., but please be a bit more careful when you do this, because here and here you broke table syntax, removed cell contents, and even some full rows in the process. There may be more issues with your recent edits, I only caught the ones that caused lint errors. Not judging, just letting you know. Gamapamani (talk) 04:58, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. It's a laborious process, best I go back to batch editing rather than the whole lot at once. Sciencefish (talk) 08:07, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

Filipino is more natural

Filipino is not for males only. Most pages of public figures on this site are in "Filipino" demonyms. Example pages: Sarah Geronimo, Yeng Constantino, Judy Ann Santos, Sara Duterte, Leni Robredo, Risa Hontiveros, etc. "Filipino" is more formal and natural. While Filipina sounds informal. Kali Igba (talk) 11:20, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

Please see MOS:PH as that is what I'm following: Filipina is used when referring to women, both as an adjective and as an adjectival noun. Examples: a Filipina poet, The company is run by a Filipina.
It has been pointed out to me that using Filipina actress should not use this rule, but was also noted as being uncommon issue.
If you wish to change this part of the MOS, then please take this to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Philippines-related articles for consensus. Thanks. Sciencefish (talk) 11:29, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
Is there a list of particular occupations that are exempted from the rules? Kali Igba (talk) 12:09, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
No, it was explained to me by another editor that Filipina (female ending) plus actress (female ending) is incorrect. So in this case it should be Filipino (neutral) actress I asked them to take it to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Philippines-related articles for consensus, but they said it was only a minor thing. Sciencefish (talk) 12:23, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
Just an update, I already posted about this issue in the link you mentioned. RPC7778 (talk) 08:58, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
As for the example pages you list, they've just not been changed. Sciencefish (talk) 12:25, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

If it was in the infobox and removed, may may not have been referenced in the body text. Everything in this infobox should be taken from the body text that is referenced. Both the infobox and lead paragraph work this way and don't usually require references if done properly. Sciencefish (talk) 14:00, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Miss Grand Laos 2024

Hello there, Would you please move draft page into a normal 77.77.218.230 (talk) 12:16, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

I have no special powers to do this, as it says Review waiting, please be patient. This may take 3 months or more, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order. There are 2,614 pending submissions waiting for review. I've removed the unsourced material, and cleaned up the English. You could add more sources as it only has one and that's a primary source. Personally, I would reject this article - it has no notability. Thanks. Sciencefish (talk) 12:54, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
