Hello. You have been invited to share your views and provide consensus on the matter of coloring regarding the current-running films of List of highest-grossing Bollywood films. Please go here to add your viewpoint. Cheers. AnkitBhattWDF 15:08, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Hello. Is your viewpoint about coloring in this list final? Are you certain you do not want coloring on this list? Since we may come to a close of consensus soon, or perhaps ask Hollywood-list editors to share their views, I suggest you read through the entire consensus section which showcases both viewpoints, and then add your final decision under Support/Oppose section. The former if you do not want coloring, the latter if you do. Thanks. AnkitBhattWDF 16:38, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- The user must have a sockpuppet category. This requirement is to ensure that only abusive users are listed at long-term abuse, since a sockpuppet category shows that the user has abused multiple accounts.
- The user must have at least one blocked account. This shows that the user has indeed disrupted Wikipedia.
- The abuse must have continued over at least a duration of six months. This shows that the user was abusive over a long duration of time.

Hi Ebe123,
Thanks for signing up for the Feedback Dashboard response team! I wanted to let you know that the tool just got an important update (see here for details). I also wanted to invite you to the IRC office hours session that Steven and I are going to hold this Sunday, December 4. Hope you can make it and share your experience/questions with us! Hi Ebe123, I've just closed the Poppy Meadow GA reassessment as "keep". The article was close to being GA standard when nominated but it had a number of problems with the prose that needed to be addressed. I noticed that you are taking part in the GA backlog elimination drive. That's great, hopefully we can make a big dent in the backlog. Please just try to be a bit more thorough when checking articles against the good article criteria. Also, when you do finish reviews on articles that pass, don't forget to list them at WP:GA. --BelovedFreak 16:58, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please could you explain your edits on User talk:Mr Jolly lives next door. Thanks, Chzz ► 02:52, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- So, I removed a test made from FeedbackDashboard and added a notice. ~~Ebe123~~ → report on my contribs. 11:51, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Well...the user was actually me; I made a test account, so I could see how the 'feedback' thing appeared to a new user. But I don't understand why you did what you did; all the "new user" did was, to write 'test' on their own user talk page. And you removed your own CSD-tag, but left 'them' a deletion notice - which would've been very confusing, and not very nice, for a new user.
- G2 does not apply to userspace pages.
- In that specific case, as I said, it doesn't matter - but if it had been a genuine new user, it would've been WP:BITE. Chzz ► 19:45, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Well, if it was a genuine new editor, they would not reply to themselves. A test page does apply to userspace and is sometimes demostrated on WP:MfD. You should of explicitly stated that it was yours anyway. Anyways, this does seem as a violation of WP:SOCK, as disrupting Special:FeedbackDashboard. ~~Ebe123~~ → report on my contribs. 20:04, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- What do you mean by "A test page does apply to userspace and is sometimes demostrated on WP:MfD"? Chzz ► 20:52, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- MfD, yes; but not speedy G2, which specifically excludes user-space. And if anyone took a brand-new user-talk page containing just a 'test reply' from the user to MfD, it would certainly not be deleted. Chzz ► 21:16, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am so grateful to you , but i feel really scared right now . What should i do if they do it again ? Should i again contact u ? Will both of them block me from editing . I won't ever do such a thing as deleting others comments or attacking anybody . The truth in that ra1 discussion was that both of them being such huge fans of srk are not even willing to listen :(
Seeta mayya (talk) 00:16, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Start a discussion for others to know, like WP:AN/I. So they can't block you, as they do not have the technical ability (neither do I). So here's where the coordinators' main job begins. You will go over each review and check against the good article criteria (having the criteria and review page in 2 different browser tabs is very useful). To coordinate effort and avoid duplication (plus letting the participants know our progress), mark review status with {{in progress}} or {{done}} in front of the user's name like this. For the first time since I had the desire to contribute to Wikipedia/Wikimedia have I run into something that does not make me feel completely lost and inadequate and alienated. Congratulations!
Also thanks to my son, who has had to bear the burden of my frequent How do Is, and who has just pointed me at Adopt-a-user; which is where I picked you - lucky you!
We might go a long way together if you have patience.
I'm an editor that likes to help others, and getting wikipedia an even better place. is what caught my eye.
I am very active in Distributed Proofreaders, and I am very pleased at the contribution I make there. My particular field of interest is in mentoring beginner proofreaders to get them up to speed. So I feel that I have a fair idea what I am talking about when I experience Wikipedia so very different from Distributed Proofreaders.
I will quote a few bits from today's emails to my son to give you a flavour of my feelings. Please don't respond to every point; I only want to give you a feeling of my frustrations. In chronological order, addressed to my son:
=========
[edit]This is my first attempt at mastering uploading of pictures. I could not easily distinguish between wikimedia and wikipedia. It is VERY hard to figure out what to do when.
=========
[edit]I had gone to a talk page of someone who left something for me: From the comments of the other users on the same page - things are designed for those that <know>. If you <don't know>, God help you. I (and maybe others) certainly don't have the time (or geeky habits) to sit for hours trying all sorts of stuff until I accidentally hit on the magic buttons.
Whenever I want to contribute to W I feel a sinking feeling, because I know I won't do a good job, and it won't be easy to find out what a good job is. If it weren't for the fact that I could ask you for help (as I've done so often) I would have thrown in the towel long ago.
=========
[edit]The wikipedia/wikimedia pages are information-dense and very busy and disorganised. Some of the worst site layouts I've come across simply because, surely if they can't get it right, who can? Have they no good website designers?
If the first page (the only first page) for contributors, gave prominence to these choices:
Are you a brand-new contributor needing full-on help? Would you like to figure things out yourself for fun? Are you an experienced wikipedia/wikimedia man?
It might be a good start.
=========
[edit]I have thought a bit, and the problem of poor website layout/design is simply a manifestation of some very muddled thinking about the whole site and probably its philosophies.
For a start, never have I seen an obvious link for raw beginners that said: what is a wiki and how does it work?
The prime assumption must not be (as it clearly is at the moment) Let's deal (only) with the people who know what's going on.
Since W want a resource that is accessible to all (they're pretty much OK there) that can be built by anybody, they have to work a whole lot more on the second part. It is simply not user-friendly. When I ask xxx, who's right next to me, a question, and he is lost, and I have to mail you, that is a clear thumbs-down.
=========
[edit]I have two general thoughts:
It is a huge impediment to learning anything new if you think you already know it.
This is a problem that has a solution. The only thing is to find that solution.
=========
[edit]Someone once said of educational institutions: A varied faculty is best for teaching. I get the strong feeling that W is staffed by geeks who can't seem to figure out that geeks make up only a small percentage of human beings, and they might be side-lining a huge and valuable resource.
=========
[edit]After I got the link to Adopt-a-user
=========
[edit]Now this is VERY GOOD.
How did I miss the huge link on the main page that would have taken me here straightaway?
=========
[edit]And finally, my son said this to me: I think you (as a savvy potential contributor who's put off by the website) would be very valuable
Thanks for your attention.

- Regarding the policy on Wikipedia, I believe that there is not much difference between the English Wikipedia and the Portuguese version. The biggest problem for me is that the tools are completely different. At first, I would be delighted to have access to the deletion policy, of elimination, and how I can use all the basic editing tools availables, which are numerous.

Hi. If you mark your transfers as reviewed they will end up in a category under Category:Wikipedia files reviewed on Wikimedia Commons. That could perhaps make deletions go faster since admins need to check less when files have allready been checked by a user who knows how to move files to Commons. Perhaps the bot/script/tool can add the review for you?--MGA73 (talk) 08:31, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WP:UWTEST member, we wanted to share a quick update on the status of the project. Here's the skinny:
- We're happy to say we have a new round of testing results available! Since there are tests on several Wikipedias, we're collecting all results at the project page on Meta. We've also now got some help from Wikimedia Foundation data analyst Ryan Faulkner, and should have more test results in the coming weeks.
- Last but not least, check out the four tests currently running at the documentation page.
Thanks for your interest, and don't hesitate to drop by the talk page if you have a suggestion or question. Maryana (WMF) (talk) 19:18, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you listed on MetaWiki under Category:Translators eng-fra. An editor made a corrective edit a few days ago at fr:Philippe Kahn to correct the birth year to 1952, but there are no refs for it. Could you possibly add some refs to it? It appears that one vandalism edit changing Kahn's birth year from 1952 to 1962 on en-wiki 2½ years ago has snowballed. We just recently seem to have fixed it on en-wiki. The original change from 1952 to 1962 on English Wikipedia was in the only edit ever made on Wikipedia by IP 195.3.166.104 with this edit on 8 July 2009: [7] with an edit summary of "Typo correction". It's quite possible that this was sneaky vandalism. A year later, it looks like it was changed from 1952 to 1962 on French Wikipedia by editor Philippe.petrinko on 25 july 2010 at 16:14 with this edit: [8], when he added an infobox. It's possible he made the date change after viewing the article on English Wikipedia. It didn't help that User:HuskyMoon has edit-warred to keep it at 1962 on en-wiki. See: Talk:Philippe Kahn#Birthdate is 1952 (or 1962?) and now answers.com and Google have picked up on the erroneous 1962 date, both citing Wikipedia. These are the current refs on the en-wiki article: [1][2][3] and this one was edit-warred out: [9] at some point. Pick the ones you want to use — maybe the New York Times and Wired are the most authoritative. Thanks. Mojoworker (talk) 23:45, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- You seem to be involved, and also, this isn't a "translation", but just some ref adding. The birthdate is disputed, so I'll rather not get involved in that. Also, as this is a thing for frwiki, I would rather have it on my talk page there. ~~Ebe123~~ → report on my contribs. 01:52, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for mentioning 'this isn't a "translation", but just some ref adding'. It gave me the impetus to log in to fr-wiki and see if I could figure out how to do it myself — which, despite never having studied French, I did with no problem. So, sorry to have bothered you. I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

- I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.
- This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.
- We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

[edit] Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter. Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far. Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers. Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months. Progress report During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators. Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May. User script list deprecation
[edit]Wikipedia's list of user scripts is in bad shape, in that it is disorganized and contains many non-working, unmaintained, or thoroughly obsolete entries. Cleanup has been on the to-do list since 2007, but little progress has been made. Instead, the whole list is now set to be deprecated on 1 May 2012, to be replaced with a new list. This draft list has been up for about a month, and in that time I've been soliciting script users and authors to come add scripts they know to be working and relevant.
If you know of scripts that you would like to survive this deprecation (and are confirmed working and relevant), you're welcome to add them to the new list. Note that the old list will be retained and linked from the main list, so there is no real deadline. Thanks for your help. Equazcion (talk) 00:56, 22 Apr 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in the January 2012 MTC Drive. The drive was a big success. As a result of the drive thousands of files was transferred and many files was nominated for deletion because of copyright issues or because they were not usable. This is to show off the almost-finished feedback page and prep it for a more public release; I'm incredibly happy to have got to this point :). Hope to see you there! And finally... as you would have finished on the leaderboard for the January 2012 MTC Drive with more than 260 transfers (if we correct for transfers made by others that were not checked properly), you have well and truly earned the Transfer to Commons Drive Leaderboard Barnstar. Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles. Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. I need to report another user for attempting to intimidate me by violating my privacy by calling out personal details about my location on my user talk page. His user name is Hasteur. Can you please direct me to the right place?
- Since the editor is screaming privacy abuse I'll respond. I did a GeoLocate on the address (which is public information as they're an IP editor) and tried to respond back in a manner to give a less "Copy-Pasted" robo response. Based on the post they made on my talk page I feel fairly confident that this is a SPA and therefore their claims of abuse should be weighed against the abuse that they dished out first. Hasteur (talk) 01:47, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I am no administrator, but this is no violation of the privacy policy, as if you have an IP, people can see your location with a WHOIS. Do not bring this up anywhere else, as this will be the only response. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 14:27, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- While the user rights issue is important, I have no complaints with what you said to Explorationofspace. I know what I'm doing for everything except for the things of which I don't know what I'm doing.
I don't mind if you want to delete what Drmies and I said in the discussion section if you feel that's appropriate. I'm sure Drmies already got a chance to see it anyway.

Hello Ebe123. I happened to see your June 2011 edit to this template. In my opinion, the section you added is not helpful, because the 1RR is considered to be sufficiently announced by the template itself. The section you added hints that editors won't be blocked for a first-time violation of the 1RR. Your addition states, "Those editors who violate the ruling, but are unaware of it, will be informed of the details before any sanctions are invoked." We do routinely enforce the 1RR restriction even on first-time editors. As it says in the main template, "Editors who violate this 1RR restriction may be blocked without warning by any uninvolved administrator, even on a first offense." Would you object if I undo your change? Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 15:09, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there! Sorry about the bot troubles earlier. It's still in pretty active development for now so there will be (hopefully occasional) issues like this for a bit as I change things. I just wanted to clear up any confusion you may have had:
- I switched the case IDs around because I was sorting out the database after fixing a bug. It shouldn't be something I'll need to do again, but for what it's worth, those are probably not things other people should be changing.
- My understanding from Steven is that we keep cases in the "review" state if they're open for over four days regardless of their activity. This is the rule that the bot will follow. As a volunteer, you're allowed to do things differently if necessary (so you can set a case from "review" to "open"). I've tightened up the bot's logic so that it will ignore any case that goes from review to open until someone manually changes the status (say, to resolved or closed).
Thanks. My talk page is always open if you have questions. — Earwig talk 23:01, 2 August 2012 (UTC) On IRC, Steven_Zhang explained it. Thanks for more info and info on the bot. While getting shocked by the power cord of my computer, ~~Ebe123~~ → report 00:07, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm very confused why my DRN on the Burgas bus bombing was archived. I've been away since last night, so maybe I missed something, but the archive doesn't show any result or further discussion for my DRN. It could be just a mistake, in which case it should be moved back. I'm really hoping for it to be resolved, so I'm confused why it would be archived without any response.
Thanks.

I do not think that any other community page in WIKIPEDIA has been twisted this way to malign, ridicule and spread negativism. The whole information given is fabricated and an insult to the Nair community who are known to have a glorious past and present. I would like to register a protest in the strongest terms against the perpetrators of this evil design and request those who have the know how to intervene. This will go a longway in restoring the credibility of WIKIPEDIA as a source of authentic information. It should not be left to independant editors to re write or write there own versions of history in order to hurt and mutilate community's psyche which seems to be the very purpose of writing such nonsense. Behind their scholarly garbs lies very vicious and venomous commulalist ideology and thinking.Beware!" Is a dispute, and the page was NAIR COMMUNITY PAGE. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 11:29, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Agree that it's not a dispute, but the closing comment should match the entry. If someone changed it from NAIR COMMUNITY PAGE to Nair after you closed it, you should change it back. --Guy Macon (talk) 11:47, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think the bot made another mistake and archived the Burgas discussion before it was closed or a decision was made. I'd give a link to it but Wikipedia seems to be malfunctioning right now, and the screen is all messed up. It's in the very last archive.
Thanks.

Hi Ebe123, you wrote "There is a ArbCom request for Youreallycan, so this should be referred there." I'm not familiar with ArbCom. I read everything on Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee and I don't understand how this relates to the DRN you closed. Where can I find the ArbCom request for YRC? How is the ArbCom request related to the DRN? Is the ArbCom going to make a decision related to YRC, and how is that going to affect the DRN? (If you could answer on my user talk page it would be great.) Thanks, IjonTichyIjonTichy (talk) 17:53, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Arbcom can make decisions on it, and here's the link Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Youreallycan. The DRN and ArbCom are both to resolve disputes, but arbcom does it by making binding desisions, while DRN makes consensus finding easier. The ArbCom desision will not affect DRN. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 18:00, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks Ebe123. Your response is most helpful. IjonTichyIjonTichy (talk) 18:04, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You may misunderstand Arbcom; they action on long term conduct issues and explicitly do not address content problems. So any content discussions should be resolved in the relevant forums. If there is a user conduct issue associated with the content dispute then this might be relevant to any arbcom case - but addressing the content issue should take priority. --Errant (chat!) 18:39, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]Articles for Creation urgently needs YOUR help!
Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1028 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.
If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.
We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 2 or 3 reviews, it would be extremely beneficial. |
Hi, Ebe, I'm confused about this WP:DRN dispute. User:Scolaire's comments about how the case was opened appear to be correct. Why does it say the request was filed by User:1shmt? As far as I can tell, 1shmt has only 6 contributions to Wikipedia, none of which to DRN. Thanks for helping sort this out.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:05, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ebe! Thanks for participating at the Teahouse. I just wanted to ping and let you know a bit about the Teahouse - we work a bit differently than other help spaces on Wikipedia - and as funny as it sounds, it works to help inspire and retain new editors to continue contributing to Wikipedia. We do things like say hello (everyone likes to be welcomed to a new place they visit), and we avoid using Wiki-jargon (we explain everything - even in great detail), etc. You can learn more about how the Teahouse works here, where you can also learn about becoming a Teahouse host. We also really need help inviting new editors to the Teahouse, and you can find information how to do that at our invite guide. Thanks again for participating!! Hi! I'm a little unclear on your rationale for opposing the use of the education program extension. Your oppose comment was "For wikiversity". By that do you mean that this extension should be used on Wikiversity? If so, the RfC on English Wikipedia isn't the right venue for that discussion; like any supported extension, Wikiversity or any other project can have request to have it enabled if there is consensus on that project to do so. If you meant something else, maybe you can explain a bit more. Thanks!--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 15:27, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I think that the whole extension is useless and if it was mandatory to be on a wiki, it should be Wikiversity. And for the WMF, please think about other wikis, not just en.wikipedia. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 19:50, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for explaining. It's not mandatory to be on any wikis (and there's no reason to put it on Wikiversity if users there don't want it); that's why we're doing an RfC to see if it's wanted here. In terms of other wikis, this will be available for any projects that want it.--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 19:56, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because of your interest in dispute resolution,, I am inviting you to comment on the following RfC:
Talk:Monty Hall problem#Conditional or Simple solutions for the Monty Hall problem?
This dispute has been going on for over ten years and there have been over 1,300,000 words posted on the article talk page (by comparison, all of the Harry Potter books together total 1,084,170 words). Over the years the dispute has been through multiple noticeboards, mediators, and even the Arbitration Committee without resolving the conflict, so a lot of wisdom is needed here. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:43, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ebe123. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved as an adopter with Wikipedia's Adopt-a-user program. A clean-up of this program is currently underway, and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is and isn't still interested in remaining an adopter.
If you would prefer not to be part of the adoption program anymore, you need do nothing; when the overhaul of the project is completed your name will be removed from the list of active adopters. However, if you have current adoptees, an active adoption school or an interest in adopting in the near future, then please let us know by signing here.
If you want to remain in the project and can currently take on more adoptees, there is a serious backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user; it would be enormously helpful if you could take on one or two of the users there. Until late 2003, Jimmy Wales was the arbiter in all major disputes. After the Mediation Committee and the Arbitration Committee were founded, Wales delegated his roles of dispute resolution to these bodies. In addition to these committees, the community has developed a number of informal processes of dispute resolution. At its peak, over 17 dispute resolution venues existed. Disputes were submitted in each venue in a different way. Due to the complexity of Wikipedia dispute resolution, members of the community were surveyed in April 2012 about their experiences with dispute resolution. In general, the community believes that dispute resolution is too hard to use and is divided among too many venues. Many respondents also reported their experience with dispute resolution had suffered due to a shortage of volunteers and backlogging, which may be due to the disparate nature of the process. An evaluation of dispute resolution forums was made in May this year, in which data on response and resolution time, as well as success rates, was collated. This data is here.
Leading off from the survey in April and the evaluation in May, several changes to dispute resolution noticeboard (DRN) were proposed. Rather than using a wikitext template to bring disputes to DRN, editors used a new javascript form. This form was simpler to use, but also standardised the format of submissions and applied a word limit so that DRN volunteers could more easily review disputes. A template to summarise, and a robot to maintain the noticeboard, were also created. As a result of these changes, volunteers responded to disputes in a third of the time, and resolved them 60% faster when compared to May. Successful resolution of disputes increased by 17%. Submissions were 25% shorter by word count.(see Dispute Resolution Noticeboard Statistics - August compared to May) Outside of DRN other simplification has taken place. The Mediation Cabal was closed in August, and Wikiquette assistance was closed in September. Nevertheless, around fifteen different forums still exist for the resolution of Wikipedia disputes.
Given the success of the past efforts at DR reform, the current RFC proposes we implement: 1) A submission gadget for every DR venue tailored to the unique needs of that forum.
2) A universal dispute resolution wizard, accessible from Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.
3) Additionally, we're seeking any ideas on how we can attract and retain more dispute resolution volunteers. |
Please share your thoughts at the RfC.

Hey there,
My name is Julio Cespedes, I do not know if I went to the right place, but to be quite honest the vandalism process on Wikipedia is pretty daunting to the casual novice. I am from Mississippi and went to Madison Central High School there, which has recently been the subject of a lot of vandalism:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madison_Central_High_School_%28Mississippi%29
It is actually one of the best high schools in the State and very competitive nationally--in the city of Madison, MS-- all factors for why it may have been the subject of vandalism.
I did not know the process for blocking/warning users, especially some who have obviously only been malicious.
If you look in the history it is clear that this user has only tried to maliciously edit the page:
Jauguar5012 AugustBurnsBlue (not as malicious but making things up nonetheless)
In addition to this IP address (twice):
98.251.211.103
98.95.210.16 (making up fake alumni)
I would appreciate it any help. Ha, it may seem strange or weird for you since you are more than likely not from Mississippi or separated from the culture down here, but it is a big deal down here for this page to be like this. Thanks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:JulioCCespedesJr
- So to warn users and IPs, I would suggest turning on twinkle and using the warn function. As you were not approved by the community, you cannot block, but report to AIV after warning 4 times with {{subst:uw-vandalism1}}, then {{subst:uw-vandalism2}}, {{subst:uw-vandalism3}}, and {{subst:uw-vandalism4}}. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 00:05, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up
Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote. – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.
