Page protection

Hey there, all well? Really hope so!

Do you think it's possible to "award" Carlos Xavier the same page protection you "bestowed upon" Pedro Martins a month ago or so? I'll be quick to admit that maybe one of my edit summaries may have escalated the situation, but now the IP(s, similarly endless), that only seem to care about this article in life (!!), continue reverting to a poorer version, with overlinking/overmention/poor English.

Ah, and even though i might have been hysteric in that 6 May summary, i never insulted anyone, and in turn was insulted ("wannabe smartass").

Attentively, continue to be well in and out WP! And sorry for any inconvenience again (i know that aggressive edit summaries are not welcome here, but if i was not able to stop in 18 years, maybe i never will, at least completely). RevampedEditor (talk) 15:27, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

  • Ha, long time no see. I think "wannabe smartass" isn't a great insult--you can take it in stride. If you failed at being a smartass, perhaps you succeeded at being correct? I'll have a look. Did you see Ronaldo cry? Drmies (talk) 16:16, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
    • Well, i suppose so, not the biggest in the name-calling department, and i have called others - vandals only, albeit - worse; 2 - yes, i am (and the other users in this article) always correct in reverting. Oh, and i earlier failed to mention this IP also REMOVES REFS!! 3 - Nope, could not be bothered to watch the game. Jorge Jesus (manager of the winning side) also has the biggest of egos, but it's very cool to see this narcissist ending his career like this, to the greatest chagrin of the millions who ass-kiss him, including hundreds of GROWN-UPS (we still have UEFA Euro 2024, hopefully it'll go well for me)! Keep it up --RevampedEditor (talk) 17:21, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

Continued changing of ref style across many articles, many years

Drmies, I just discovered that the article Mating of yeast had its long-established reference style changed by Boghog on 9 May from Last, First (Doe, John S.) to Vancouver (Doe JS), contrary to policy. He used to do this often on Evolutionary Biology articles some years ago, but when reverted and warned he stopped, ... I thought. It seems he's just moved on to other areas where I'm not active, and he is still doing it on one article after another. He uses the edit comment "consistent citation formatting" when he does this; a quick search for that in his last 500 edits reveals dozens and dozens of such edits – of course, many of them may be entirely correct and justifiable if Vancouver citations are already the established majority on those articles (as is likely in Medicine and Molecular Biology, for instance); but articles like 'Mating of yeast', Forensic entomology (25 April), and Sexual script theory (24 April), do not really fall into those categories. I suppose if one applies quick edits to a lot of medical articles it would be easy to overgeneralise and do the same on Biology articles too, regardless of established reference styles there. I've posted on the Talk:Mating of yeast page but it seems to me that something should be done. What would you advise? Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:36, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Would you mind casting your eyes over this LOUTSOCK. It's starting to be disruptive. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 21:00, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Crikey! It's likely part of a much larger sock farm. The requested semi-protection will handle the current crop, and there is the no rush. I must be tired 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 22:32, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Challenging reverted re-directs

It's my understanding that if I boldly re-direct something and the re-direct is challenged, AfD is a reasonable next step. Am I doing this right? Introduction to Leadership Skills (Boy Scouts of America) Graywalls (talk) 02:55, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Carptrash

Could you take a look at what might be going on with Carptrash (talk · contribs)'s home IP, per his message on my talkpage? He says his home IP is blocked, but his account is not. Acroterion (talk) 12:02, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Doug Weller and Spicy are asking around already. Acroterion (talk) 13:18, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
OK--thanks. I'm grading the first set of submissions for my summer class. It's very exciting. Drmies (talk) 15:05, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
If you need a change of pace, I have a contractor's 222-page door, frame and hardware submittal to review. Or the concrete product data, it's only 54 pages. Acroterion (talk) 15:22, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Wut--that sounds even more boring. Can't you have AI do that for you? Drmies (talk) 16:03, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Hmm just got my first AI-submission for the day, putting my total at 3 for this week, out of some 20 submissions. I guess that's not bad! Drmies (talk) 16:12, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Unfortunately, AI has not yet learned to coordinate lockset functions, kick plates, mop plates, wall thickness, access control, ballistic protection, sustainability codes, the International Building Code, and the Life Safety Code, not to mention the client's verbally-expressed wishes for particular details. Therefore, I have a job for the foreseeable future. But I can only imagine the despair of receiving AI-generated assignments. What do you do with them? Print them, set them on fire, and mail the student the ashes? Acroterion (talk) 18:37, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Blocked by Drmies, which is why we're here. And why I'm editing at a friend's home. Carptrash (talk) 23:40, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
No I just give em a zero on the assignment and tell em not to do it again. Second infraction is an F for the clash. I'm still at only 3, and I have 17 more to go, so that's not bad. Ballistic protection??? What business are you in? Drmies (talk) 02:25, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
We do general architecture in civic, school, college/university, health care, and senior living markets. This one's a new police facility. But we're doing ballistic protection for a county treasurer's office too. People don't like to pay their taxes and sometime act up. The last courthouse we did had ballistic panels in the judges' benches. And it's a scary world when you have to think about somebody shooting up a school full of 5-10-year-olds. Acroterion (talk) 02:55, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
Just got number 4! Oh dear, yes. Metal detectors at my kid's middle school, I'm used to it by now, but I shouldn't be. Hey, let's have a beer. It's Friday, isn't it? Drmies (talk) 02:58, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

Sigh...

User:UltimateMikeSawyers has pledged to evade their block using other accounts and VPNs on their unblock request (as well as call the administrators bitches, unreasonable, and foolish). User:LilianaUwU, sorry, I missed this? And I missed an opportunity for a witty reply? Dang. Drmies (talk) 14:04, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Hey, I mean at least you denied recognition so that this guy wouldn't try to constantly annoy or threaten you. That's something on the plus side. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 14:17, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

Another Koningsberger

If you have a moment, could you take a look at Google's translation of "Mijn geweten gebiedt mij hier met diepe smart en teleurstelling te gedenken de ontheffing uit de uitoefening van hun ambt van een aantal Nederlandse collega's, uitsluitend om reden van afkomst of geloof." at Victor Jacob Koningsberger to see if it jives? I cleaned it up, but it was suspiciously coherent for GT.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 20:22, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

I laughed madly!

Come @Drmies, you have instructed me to take Draft:Aroz Rai to FA. How do I start this one even. You are more than funny. Ah! Ok, there is no problem with that. What if I tell you about this: I have not wanted to tell Josh so that he won't join. I want to take one page to FA ASAP. Do you know the page I mean? this one. What do you think? Is it going to pass? Why did you block me?

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

This IP address has been blocked from editing Wikipedia.

This does not affect your ability to read Wikipedia pages. Most people who see this message have done nothing wrong. Some kinds of blocks restrict editing from specific service providers or telecom companies in response to recent abuse or vandalism, and can sometimes affect other users who are unrelated to that abuse. Review the information below for assistance if you do not believe that you have done anything wrong. The IP address or range <redacted> has been blocked by ‪Drmies‬ for the following reason(s): longterm vandalism This block will expire on 00:28, 6 June 2025. Your current IP address is <redacted>. Even when blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page, as well as email administrators and other editors. For information on how to proceed, please read the FAQ for blocked users and the guideline on block appeals. The guide to appealing blocks may also be helpful. It's a rangeblock, and the range in question has a good bit of vandalism coming from it. We can see if we can craft a couple of narrower ranges or figure out why you can't just log in and edit through the IP{ block - it's not you that's the problem. I'm removing your IP information for privacy, admins can still find it if needed. Acroterion (talk) 01:18, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

User:EdJohnston, User:Spicy, you all had a look--do you know what's going on? Drmies (talk) 15:18, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
A lot of CUs have looked. There is a wide and very appropriate range block involved. It's an anon-only block though and should not impact Carptrash. -- ferret (talk) 15:41, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks Ferret. I also believe that whatever is happening is not our doing, but I really wanted that to be made clear by (yet) another admin. Carptrash, I did not block you--no one did. Drmies (talk) 15:49, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
I am sorry if I have been accusing you unfairly, but your name comes up as the one who blocked me. Carptrash (talk) 00:50, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Hey User:Carptrash. Based on the IP you previously listed on this page (which has since been revdelled) you were running into an anon-only block. Such a block should not stop you from editing if you were just using your account, and not attempting to edit anonymously. If you have more questions you might send me Wikipedia email. Request

Hi Drmies, I would appreciate it if you would not follow me around tracking my edits. In the past week, you have followed me to two pages on which you have never made an edit. Thank you in advance. – notwally (talk) 22:06, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Notwally, can I stalk you instead? I'm bored stalking Drmies.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:12, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Honestly, you or Drmies are free to stalk me, just maybe more subtly? I'm glad to see you are not retired anymore and are still out there fighting socks. – notwally (talk) 22:22, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. Seriously, what makes you think that Drmies's editing two of the same pages you've edited (don't know which pages you're referring to) is "tracking" your edits? Drmies is an eclectic editor - he edits many pages, many topics. Maybe he reverted you? Is that's what upset you? Without knowing more, I just think your "request" is odd. But I'll bow out and let Drmies respond if he wishes to.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:32, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
The most recent page was Carbon, but I assume Drmies started following me after a dispute on the talk page of user Microplastic Consumer about edits made to Sam Sloan, which I think Drmies needlessly escalated. That interaction seems to have gotten to him, because after I edited the carbon page today, he immediately "thanked" my edit, despite never having edited that page in the past. I don't think Drmies has ever reverted one of my edits. This is simply a case of one editor following another, and a request to have it stop. – notwally (talk) 22:51, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Whoa, I just looked at the discussion on MC's Talk page. "needlessly excalated"? The only editor I see escalating anything is you. You're lucky to have escaped without sanctions.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:00, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Sanctions for a single sockpuppet warning? Come on. I'll be the one to bow out from this conversation with you now. Clearly admins here need to find more useful work to do. Feel free to look into the sockpuppetry on that page. Drmies can respond if he wants, but it is entirely not necessary. – notwally (talk) 23:08, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the entertainment. I love useless work.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:10, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
notwally: dude. I watch Recent changes, all the time. I saw you make an edit, "rm excessive wikilinking" or something like that. I thanked you for it--I think you made two edits in the same article. You removed links around basic words, and that is what I also do, all the time, so I appreciate it. That's not stalking. But don't worry: I won't thank you anymore for good things you do and, honestly, when I clicked "thank" I had to remind myself who you were, because I'm so forgetful that I can barely hold a grudge. If you want to call my thanking you "following", well, I suppose you can interpret it that way. Drmies (talk) 16:24, 13 June 2024 (UTC) Ha, to prove my point, that wasn't even you, so I don't know what you mean off the top of my head, unless I go through your contributions--but that would be stalking, even though they are public, no? Drmies (talk) 16:39, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
It looks to me like you did thank Wally for their edits to Carbon. Their second edit was at 21:57, and you thanked them at 21:58.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:46, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Sheesh I'm getting fucking old. Thanks. Hey, I just went through the FAFSA/MPN process for federal loans for my kid. If you can send me $7000 a semester I won't have to do the PLUS loans, which I didn't even know existed. My brain is empty. So I thanked them huh? Nice of me! Drmies (talk) 18:19, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
We just wrote a check to the U.S. State Department. I'm sure that will help. I've never thanked anyone - frankly, I think it's silly. But if we're going to have a thanks thing, we should also have a "you're welcome" thing and then a "not at all" thing and then a "don't even mention it" thing. All this civility on a platform where we can say fuck as much as we please. Maybe we should have a "fuck off" thing; as long as it's in a log, it doesn't count as a personal attack. There, now I'm in your boat: writing this has emptied my brain. I'll refill it later with the usual sawdust.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:30, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Drmies, if we don't have an issue, then that is great to hear. If I ever win the lottery, maybe I can help with the college bills. I guess until then you will have to rely on Bbb23. – notwally (talk) 18:33, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
notwally, I don't have an issue with you. I appreciate the financial support. Unfortunately Bbb can be relied on for lots of things, but money is not one of them--but watch them hit me up when I buy my house in France. Drmies (talk) 20:55, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
I assumed all the admins here already had houses in France. Where else do you all plot what you are going to do to the rest of us? – notwally (talk) 21:04, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
No, that's just the admins on Commons, who get a percentage from Porntube from those auto-fellatio videos. The rest of us just eat our crickets and manifest thankfulness. Drmies (talk) 21:37, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
I'll start spending more time on Commons then. – notwally (talk) 01:43, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Crisco that is SPECTACULAR. I'd never heard of it. I assume you wrote that up? Drmies (talk) 16:37, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Yeah, it grew out of the Lovink article chain. Saw some pictures under the Roosenburgs, and I swear that must have been some castle. Countryside looks beautiful too. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 16:43, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Reverted most of your edits to Antenna tuner article

I have reverted most of your edits to Antenna tuner article. I kept your deletion of the new "editorial" section, and the "issues" templates that you inserted, but restored all the other sections that you removed: Your edits were too extensive, too rash, too impulsive. You completely removed parts of the article that needed to stay, at least in part.

I think that you are correct in describing the article as too long and too detailed. My own opinion is that the article needs to be split up into multiple smaller articles on individual antenna tuner types, and reduced to just a review article covering antenna impedance matching rather than tuners: For example, stub-matching and baluns / transformers are not really "antenna tuners", although they are often used along with them.

Please refrain from any further edits to the antenna tuner article. Your grammar change ("don't") was entirely fine, but you appear to have an established pattern of creating editing controversy by jumping into articles where you may have limited expertise. You current batch of rash changes suggest that you aren't quite ready to make the careful edits needed to retain the good parts of the article.Astro-Tom-ical (talk) 20:35, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

@Astro-Tom-ical: First, don't go around telling other (more experienced) editors not to edit articles. See WP:OWN. Second, you are editing without logging in more frequently than you are logged in. That is not a good idea and may be seen as you trying to avoid scrutiny. It's also not a good idea to reveal your IP. I have blocked the IP range you've been using for three months, so hopefully you'll learn to log in all the time when you edit Wikipedia.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:59, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you Bbb23. Astro-Tom-ical, I have some expertise editing Wikipedia. If you have been editing under a variety of IPs, then I guess you have too, but I haven't seen you produce content that conforms to our editorial policies and guidelines. The article in its current state is terrifying, and I'd love to take those tags off, but not until the article has been improved. Drmies (talk) 21:55, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
Bbb, I [redacted] Have you ever gotten into radio? Drmies (talk) 22:00, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
I don't even listen to the radio in the car. I took a quick glance at Antenna tuner. That is one long fucking article. Also, looking at the history I can see that there a LOT of other IP ranges used by the OP.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:18, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

England football/soccer team: Possible edit war

Hello Drmies, there is this user AnimeBatman who keeps reverting my edits to the "England national football team" article. Most people should think my edit to the right looks better than AnimeBatman's version to the left. I feel like an edit war is going to happen soon, and I want this page to look as good as possible for the Euros. Could you please block this user? Thanks, Nearly but not perfect (talk) 15:44, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

  • User:I'm not perfect but I'm almost, you're not going to like this, but that edit war is really already there, and if anyone was going to be blocked it would be you. If we're going to look at an edit war, we admins, we don't really look to see who's right and we certainly don't look to see what looks better--we look to see if there is consensus for this or that edit (and I don't see consensus for this on the talk page, so "most people should think" is not a thing that really means anything. Another thing we look for is an explanation: User:AnimeBatman wrote edit summaries for most of their edits--you didn't do that for a single one. So no, I can not block this user, because I don't have a good reason to do so. I could warn you for edit warring, but I hope I made my point. You want to get the admin cabal on your side? Explain what you do in edit summaries, and open up talk page posts, if necessary, to find consensus. Good luck in the Euros, Drmies (talk) 16:26, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
  • Nearly but not perfect, one more thing: you used Twinkle and rollback to revert your opponent's edits. Please look at WP:ROLLBACKUSE, and tell me which of those rationales for using rollback (and by extension Twinkle) applies. It can only be the first, "To revert obvious vandalism and other edits where the reason for reverting is absolutely clear"--but it can't. This was NOT obvious vandalism, and the reason for reverting was not clear at all. Drmies (talk) 21:14, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
  • On the Euro 2024 page, someone reverted my edit changing "returning" to "returned": "The tournament returned to its usual four-year cycle, after the 2020 edition was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic." I'm sure it's "returned". I have warned TheWhiterCloud already. If this turns to an edit war am I right here? Nearly but not perfect (talk) 01:22, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
    • In terms of grammar, of course you are right. Why, after I spent so much time explaining this to you, you couldn't put that in an edit summary, I don't understand. Also, as far as I can tell, TheWhiterCloud made that edit one single time, and you are going to cite them for edit warring? Drmies (talk) 13:15, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Regular irritant

Hi Drmies, would you mind having a look at Pieinthesky1, who is making their habitual edits in the usual playgrounds?

@SomethingForDeletion: alerted me about this likely being a familiar sock repeating the same edits on Capital punishment for homosexuality. Ohnoitsjamie (talk · contribs) sorted the last (known) episode in March involving LGBT rights in the UAE. As you have often managed also, they were so fast they got rid of them before I'd even seen the disruption. Thought we'd lost them, but no such luck.

Anyway, looks very like the same old-same old, to me. AukusRuckus (talk) 08:31, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

  • AukusRuckus, I will, but next time please mention the sockmaster's name or link the SPI--you have no idea how forgetful I am, even though I know I blocked at least a dozen of this person's accounts. Drmies (talk) 16:35, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
    • What a dope I am; sorry about that. I knew I needed to include that, yet somehow missed actually, you know, doing it. So that's an example of my own high level of memory impairment (with less excuse, not having to field checkuser requests, etc., all the time). Anyway, thanks for your help – and patience. AukusRuckus (talk) 03:54, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
      • No problem, my friend--we're here to serve, but I'd serve better if I didn't forget these names so easily. And this one, of course, I spent plenty of time on. BTW I get the feeling he's expanding technically, so the alertness of people like you is getting more important. Drmies (talk) 13:58, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

Restarted discussion

If you're going to restart a discussion and put it under a new heading while copy/pasting my signature in what you're quoting on WP:AN, I would expect a heads up as you're directly referencing me and what I said. Buffs (talk) 17:01, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Election Pages

Quick question, do you think it would be appropriate to lock the election pages of those that have been reverted? I saw you lock the 2018 and the 2022 Italian election pages, and wondered if it would be best to lock such other pages too. ValenciaThunderbolt (talk) 09:14, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

MidAtlanticBaby

I had really tried to deal with User:MidAtlanticBaby in good faith, but it was becoming clearer and clearer that the editor was a problem, perhaps one with a past. Thank you for digging deeper. Alansohn (talk) 03:42, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

Drmies, the user you blocked is actually doing cross-wiki harassment by going on your Wikimedia Commons talk page and adding spam attacks. You might want to contact a steward. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 05:48, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
Alansohn, I saw that and I appreciate it. Unfortunately your good efforts were wasted; it's frustrating when that happens but I thank you for trying. NoobThreePointOh, I saw what you did on Commons, and thank you, but if you don't mind, a word to the wise: just don't revert. There's no benefit in it; it just takes time and effort and the block will come. That infantile stuff on my talk page is not a big deal to me. And when this happens in article space, you can revert all you want but all you're doing is pleasuring the other party and it fills up the history in an unappealing manner. Just let it stand and alert an admin. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 15:29, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. I appreciate the encouragement. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 15:35, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I can’t claim to be a prolific vandal-fighter, but in such situations (where the vandal has already been reported) my goal is to waste more of their time than they do of mine. Once they’ve restored their reverted edit, go do something useful for a few minutes and then come back to re-revert; with any luck you’ve tied them up in the meantime, continually refreshing the page, its history or their watchlist for a chance to continue the edit-war. (‘Serious’ stuff like outing, or particularly nasty attacks on a LP in mainspace, may call for a different approach.)—Odysseus1479 20:43, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, User:Odysseus1479, but I don't see any benefit in filling up the history of an article with vandal edits and reverts. It looks terrible, esp. in article space. Drmies (talk) 23:13, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
They generally get blocked after only a round or two. I was just suggesting it as a middle course between immediate reversion and doing nothing. Vandalism at Binibining Pilipinas 2024

Hello @Drmies, would you mind having a look at @Editscontent2.9? This editor has been vandalizing the article Binibining Pilipinas 2024 by adding fake results and at Miss Universe 2024 by adding Miss Floptropica. This behavior has been going on since 2022 I believe. Allyriana000 (talk) 02:22, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

  • Sure but I need some specifics--diffs, reverts with solid explanations, talk page warnings. In this edit, you didn't give a reason. Not only is that not OK (you NEED to give a reason), but you also didn't warn the IP. Same here. Anyway, without those explanations and the attendant warnings, I have to figure out for myself what the problem is, and I am no expert in those articles. User:Ave maria 101, are you saying that they inserted a list of winners long before the contest was actually held? Drmies (talk) 16:26, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Apologies for not giving a reason to one edit. The revert was due to the unnecessary changing of names into the shorter names. Allyriana000 (talk) 16:36, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Just checking back

Hey! Just letting you know there were some on the list that still need to be removed with the Nazi puppet states. I was the one I admit that added some but most were not added by me. Croatia, General government of Poland, Serbia under military occupation and Ukraine under Nazi occupation still need to go. I'm not sure if the Japanese puppet states need to go too but just letting you know that. Also, someone added El Salvador under Bukele which I felt may not qualify so just letting you know on that. I also added some sources for the African regimes I felt could be added. I got them from university studies and some from jstor as well. One thing I will say, I have found plenty of sources that bring up how they were anti-communist or that they were conservative but I don't see a lot of sources that outright say they're Right-Wing so I just wanted to make sure if I do if that's still fine since they have systems that are very much Right-Wing. Thank you, get back to me when you can please. TYMR (talk) 02:47, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

  • Thanks. I'm going to have another look, later--I appreciate your note. You saw that I'm going slowly because I want to get it right. Drmies (talk) 03:04, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
  • Hey there, just wanted to get back and ask if they were able to look back at the sources I wanted to add. If these ones are okay, I will look for ones on the others too and get back for verification if they're fine to be added. I also wanted to add Uganda under Idi Amin and was able to find on jstor a writing that described his regime inspired by fascism. Get back to me when you can please. Thanks! 15:30, 26 June 2024 (UTC)TYMR

Greetings. I'm reaching out about an IP leaving TLDR pap at BLPN that has resulted in dueling/reciprocal Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nemov and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Xam2580. An IP (logged-out editor) is apparently involved. I don't mean to skip the queue at SPI, but this has quickly become a big conspiratorial snot smear stain at BLPN. I don't even mind if you cast the CU net over me, but a quick look at everyone might save everyone else at BLPN a lot of time. Thanks as always for any feedback you can give. JFHJr () 04:32, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

  • Yeah, thanks--there really isn't anything to those SPIs, is there. I kind of wish Nemov had left well enough alone. Thing is, I do think that some of that content should probably be in that article--but properly done and well written. The article right now is mostly a list of films surrounded by some words and years, followed by another list of films. Drmies (talk) 11:51, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

All in a day's work

https://trove.nla.gov.au/search/category/newspapers?keyword=gridiron%20australia - the critical barometer of a subject in OZ is trove, let alone whether an OZ editor takes a liking to a subject or not, it is clear that the presence of Americans in larger numbers in the 1940s in OZ stirred some journos to tap the keys about the subject - as to understanding whether participating teams and organisations are even at a standard of being notable, hmm therein lies a problem. Melbourne is AFL. All else is mere fragments of the imagination by comparison. But that shouldnt deny presence of footballs that they (Melburnians) might not understand. Epistemologies of things that are different can be delegated to the outer suburbs in Melbourne. And such things might seem inconsequential. JarrahTree 01:52, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

  • I have a Facebook friend who talks like that. ;) Drmies (talk) 01:55, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
    • Put another way your query is very justifiable due to the topic and the wiki inactivity around the subject and the way the articles show in their history. And even the web doesnt help. And then Trove only just squeeks through. I refuse to engage in bookface (sic) even to research whether they exist in substance there. However, I am at a loss as to whether the mentions in wikipedia constitute something worth improving or exterminating. Melbourne is a different - state of mind, country, language - from where I live. I am Sydney oriented myself, between the two. But that is another story. JarrahTree 02:01, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

Comment on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics

Just regarding your edit summary on the article, "As of these Games, the Philippines has yet to earn an Olympic medal"? strange. they won a gold medal for weightlifting in 2020; they won three medals in 1932", the statement was referring to the edition of the Games itself rather than the future editions^^ Arconning (talk) 12:26, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I was wondering if you could check and see if this account[1] is another sock puppet account of Dpugh500/Dpugh520?[2] The account was created a little over a month ago and they've tried replacing legit sources regarding voice actresses' DOB or age with poor sources in edits such as these.[3][4][5].

He even once removed a YOB stating in the edit summary that there wasn't any reason for it to mentioned[6]. Which makes no sense and not unlike the reasonings Dpugh500 gave for removing someone's age or YOB a few months back.[7][8] Kcj5062 (talk) 21:21, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Strange, huh. Yes, you were correct. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 21:28, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
    • Thank you. I also have a question. When an editor gets blocked, does only their current IP address keep them from making another account? Because as far as I know, this is that person's third account. And it seems like unless there's an IP range block for wherever he's at, he's just gonna continue to keep making new accounts in the future. Kcj5062 (talk) 21:43, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
      • Well, the technicalities are at Wikipedia:Autoblock, and an admin can place a block on the range, including a block that prevents the making of new accounts. What kind of block is placed, and for how long, that depends on circumstances, including the behavior of the abuser and the kind of range we're dealing with. Obviously I can't say anything about particulars but we do what we can. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 21:48, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Article created maybe not notable?

Hello there. In my random trawling's I came across this article. Reading through it I couldn't figure out anything actually notable enough for this subject to have a Wikipedia article, so I was going to at least PROD it or nominate it for AfD for being non-notable. However then I noticed that you created it and thought that was strange, you're not known for creating non-notable articles and I always trust all of your edits. So I thought I'd reach out to see if you recall creating it and if you today still think there's a reason the article is notable. The subject just seems to be a Confederate soldier, like many hundreds of thousands of others, who just happened to have some minor mentions in a couple of documents. Canterbury Tail talk 14:53, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Hmm thanks for the reminder. I don't typically write "notable for" when I write something up. It wouldn't be the first one of mine that got deleted though I think my track record is pretty decent. I think Bossier is more than just a regular guy (at least he got a poem written for him) and I'll try to prove it. Drmies (talk) 15:59, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
    • I'll walk away from it then and leave it in your hands to do with as you see fit. Have a good one. Canterbury Tail talk 16:01, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
      • Ha, maybe he'll scrape by. Thanks for the kind words, BTW. Drmies (talk) 16:06, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
      • User:Canterbury Tail, I think I scraped that barrel and got to the bottom. I can't really find fault with your reasoning. I think his importance--as I tried to indicate--lies in his somewhat exemplary role as the figure of a planter's son. The difference between him and countless others (well, thousands of em) is in the fact that he's written up, but I can't dispute that some of these sources are ancillary, except for the Eaton one--for which, unfortunately, I can't peruse the sources, so I can't see what else might be there. A (notable) guy wrote a poem about him. Now, he has a family too, and he is likely the scion of a notable family, the Bossiers, and he had a father or an uncle who was a legislator (I can find that maybe in genealogy sites but I wouldn't want to cite them), and he may have been a legislator himself (I wish Eaton had made that clear)--and that latter point would be enough, I suppose.
But that's about all I can argue right now, and if you want to put him up at AfD, I'm fine with that: we do have standards to uphold! Thanks again, and take care, Drmies (talk) 21:57, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Newbie sock?

Hey, Normanhunter2 reminds me of another suspicious user I reported to Spicy, Harpick. I don't think that Norman and Harpick are the same user, but the fact that they both immediately jumped into certain things triggers the same suspicion. Here's a list:

  • Account created on June 16 (coincidentally the same creation date as Harpick)
  • Creation of userpage and user Talk page almost immediately
  • Citing wikified guidelines and policies in edit summaries
  • Nominating articles for deletion.
  • Voting at AfDs
  • Non-admin closures at ANI

It was the last one that drew my attention because one of the two closures was inaccurate (not vandalism or anything). That closure, which I reverted, triggered this discussion.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:11, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Quick sock inquiry

User:Fugabus was recently sock blocked on behavioral grounds. Fugabus went inactive for about a month before the block. User:War_Term has displayed the same subject matter POV re Simon Ekpa and Biafra related articles. F and WT both seek attention to no end, to the point of tailing editors who they seek attention from, and even adding a bounce animation on WT's user page, which I previously disused on my own. I know I'm not the only user WT and F have both tailed this way, but I've assured confidentiality to the similarly situated editor to email me about things like this. With CU specs, do you think this is the same socker, or do you reckon it's better at SPI with diffs for a behavioral check? I'd like to save everyone time at SPI by not requesting CU there if nothing is there. The behavior-only route would take time collecting diffs. So thank you if you're inclined and able at all to shove me in the right direction. JFHJr () 02:26, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Hmm yes

Thank you for this. It turned out to be a royal PITA. I was ashamed of myself for getting cross with them, which I shouldn't have, but, sheesh, the edits, the edits (takes paracetamol before continuing). They seem to be using some kind of AI or Grammarly or something to suggest edits which they uncritically accept even if they make no sense, or actually reverse the meaning, or whatever. And then they righteously defend them with just a touch of hurt over being so misunderstood. I went back (after their departure) and sorted out more of their horrible mess but I really hope we never see them again. Thanks for the intervention. Cheers DBaK (talk) 08:10, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Question about an IP

Hey there Drmies. This IP called me a POS here. Over the last couple of weeks they've engaged in heavy POV editing in the Serbs of Croatia article (their IP is dynamic hence it changes every couple of days). Based on their editing style however, I know that this is a registered user who is editing logged out, presumably to avoid being tracked. I know editing logged out isn't wrong on its own, but is the registered editor liable to be sanctioned for this behavior even though they are using IPs? Does a SPA have to be filed to prove this? I know that admins don't explicitly link IPs to accounts, hence why I am asking. Thank you for your time. --Griboski (talk) 14:57, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Well, anytime you want to argue that some IP is actually a registered user, you need to produce some evidence if you're going to name the user, cause it's a pretty serious accusation. An SPI does that. That's really about all I can say right now, but I'm going to have a look at the IP and see if they've already dug their own grave on their own merits. Drmies (talk) 16:06, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

Need assistance with "Malvika Iyer" page which has been consistently vandalized by a user

Hello Drmies, thank you for explaining that we use last names on Wikipedia throughout the article. Kindly check the edits made my User Raghuleeds who originally replaced last name with first name stating the reason "Prevent casteism references". The reason is ridiculous as Wikipedia has a rule of using last name. His edits remained and nobody changed it. It's difficult to stop this user from consistently making inappropriate changes to this page. For example, using the word "self bomb blast" which is incorrect. The user also used words like “detonation” indicating Malvika tried to commit suicide. The fact is simple- Malvika met with a tragic accident in her childhood. What can be done? Please advice. Thank you for your time. Disabilityawareness (talk) 14:31, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Thanks--they won't be bothering the article anymore. Drmies (talk) 16:04, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
    • Drmies, I don't know if Disabilityawareness and Kindness88 are meat or sock puppets, but aside from their SPA-like interest in the Iyer article, you may not have noticed that after Disabilityawareness posted above, Kindness88 refactored the post as if they were the same person.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:09, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
      • Ha I thought I saw something weird there. Thanks. I was actually wondering, earlier this morning, whether Disabilityawareness should be blocked because of their user name. What do you think, Bbb? Drmies (talk) 16:11, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
        • I assume your block of Kindness88 was for being a sock of Disabilityawareness. If so, I would block Disability as the master rather than for a username violation. I suspect they are either the subject or closely affiliated with the subject - at the end of the day, they are not an asset. Even after I trimmed it some, the article is still way too promotional. Did you take a look at Iyer's website? If it really belongs to her, as opposed to being a fansite, it's amazingly self-congratulatory.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:21, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

Regarding long ongoing vandalism in Maratha Confederacy article

Hi,

A user Padfoot is repeatedly removing sourced content (WP:RS) from Maratha Confederacy article without any valid reason. See this [9], [10] He is telling any editor to have a discussion or consensus if they wanna add any information in the article. Moreover he is not accepting the statement of reliable sources and when I am asking him to provide any sources for support of his statement or views he isn't (see this [11]). The article prior to my most recent edits [12] [13] has numerous failed sources and wrong information in the lead, when i am correcting it, he is reverting my edits, removing wrong information and changing it to correct information doesn't require consensus or discussion. I have even quoted from the sources so that other editors could easily verify it. It is possible that he could have reverted my edits once again by the time you read this. Kindly see to it.

If you're going to be coy about it (indicate you have no idea what you are doing) then it'll probably be worse. It'd be easier just to say you recognize the issue(s).
I don't know that what you inserted in the assassination attempt article was vandalism, it was more like WP:SYNTH or WP:OR in its original form without being cited to something from a WP:RS that ties it to the article. Properly cited to a RS that mentions it in context, it might be fine. Freaking out about it makes it into a bigger problem than it is. —DIYeditor (talk) 22:18, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

I'm not familiar enough with the topic to say. A quick search finds mentions of it from diverse sources in relation to the assassination attempt. [18]. I don't think these sources existed at the time the material was added though, and I agree, it was mentioned in a way that lacked context and insinuated a direct connection. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:31, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Piotr Glas (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) was arrested last month and charged with ten sexual offenses against children. Content on that matter was added here 25 June 24. 193.109.244.28 (contribs | filter log) has been removing that content. Should it be on the article? Sources on the page and that I've found:

I like moron better

Mr. Iddiot here. As long as you're busy doing CU blocks, what do you think of Office7724? See their Talk page for what I think of them; I'm not usually quite so harsh when I suspect a new user of socking, but I was definitely punchy with this one. I hate the phrase, but the user practically screams sock. I've seen other "new" users who clerk noticeboards, but the interesting thing about this person is they seem to want to protect disruptive users. I believe clerking is usually the opposite, meaning they want to jump on the bandwagon and say, yeah, they should be blocked. The user hasn't edited since my little tirade on their Talk page, so it's understandable that they haven't responded.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:50, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

  • You are totally lost? Drmies (talk) 15:29, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
    • Pretty normal for me, actually. What does Murakami have to do with me or the sock? I'm fairly sure I've never read him; have we talked about him and I've forgotten? You always want to talk about literature, even though all I read are mysteries. In fact, I could give you a list of mystery writers not to read. It's hard to find good ones. A lot of Anglo-Saxon mystery writers must've read How to Create Mystery Best-Sellers for Dummies, which says, among other monetary tips, do not use sentences longer than 10 words, the first few (short) sentences must be really eye-grabbing, and not along the lines of Aujourd'hui ma mere est morte. Now Jasper Fforde is worth reading, but he's a rare find.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:40, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

Failed ping attempt

Hi. Re this, you're aware the pings still didn't work? Just checking, since I'd be surprised if you decided they weren't important after all. At the risk of insulting your vast experience, a valid ping and a valid signature have to be added in the same edit, else the notification is not sent. Also, I don't think you can fix it by modifying the existing comment; it would take a whole new one if I'm not mistaken. ―Mandruss  00:41, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Haha, "vast experience" doesn't necessarily pertain to technical matters. I thought a renewed signature was enough, and I thought the past had indicated it was. I'll let them know individually. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 01:01, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

Back in January, you deleted this article by making it a redirect. FYI, recently another user restored an old version over the redirect. (I just restored the most recent version of text, figuring it was better.) If you care about deleting it, I suppose taking it to AfD would be the next thing you should try. -- R. S. Shaw (talk) 22:45, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Yeah R. S. Shaw, I saw what you did. It was a terrible article when I redirected it, it became an even more terrible article, and now it's back to being a regularly terrible article. I don't "care about deleting it", but that phrasing is...well I don't care for it. The redirect was better than this article. Drmies (talk) 23:20, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Volleyball at the summer olympic

Hi there. I made two separate tables of Olympic medal winners. I have a problem explaining to other people that Russia, Serbiaand Czech Republic inherited the medals of the former republics. On 31 January 1992, the United Nations recognized, without objection, Russia as legal successor of the rights and obligations of the former Soviet Union, FIVB (Volleyball World is FIVB site) is only official site. "Russia, including as Soviet Union, have won the world title a record seven times" Olympic source: "The Soviet Union’s foothold on the game was seemingly slipping, however, those doubts were laid to rest at the 1991 FIVB men’s volleyball World Cup, when 23-year-old Dmitry Fomin guided the nation to their fourth World Cup gold in what would be their final appearance as the USSR.After missing the 1995 FIVB World Cup they returned in the 1999 edition as Russia. Led by tournament MVP Roman Yakovlev, Russia finished with a record of nine wins and two losses, and won the country’s fifth FIVB men’s volleyball World Cup crown This is official Russian volleyball site I indicated all these references in the text about the Volleyball World Championship, but I was corrected and finally blocked (see history). So I have created two separate tables of references as done in the text All-time Olympic Games medal table. Thank you for your time, anyway. JohnWickChapter4 (talk) 00:07, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Sure. You could have taken the time to explain what you were doing in edit summaries, and/or arguing your point on the relevant talk pages. Honestly the content of your argument really isn't interesting to me, on this here talk page, and I removed the URLs you dropped in here--messes up the formatting of my talk page. He's begging to be unblocked while he's threatening to rape and murder me and my family. It's the dumbest thing you can imagine. If you see it again, report it at WP:AIV--there's not even a need to revert it, cause he'll just revert you. Those people get a kick out of that, like trolls on Facebook who think that yelling LIBTARD at people means anything in the world. Thanks, and take care, Drmies (talk) 01:23, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Do you mind explaining under what circumstances it would be appropriate to include sourced incident of sexual misconduct in a BLP?

Just would like a straight answer thanks. I'll accept whatever you state. Wikipedious1 (talk) 02:04, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

I don't think Drmies will mind if I point out that what you attempted to add the article was not a "sourced incident of sexual misconduct", but a claim in an online magazine based on social media reports by a former girlfriend that misconduct occurred. Can you appreciate the distinction? When and if he is charged with a crime would be the time to report that he is suspected of a crime, and not until. General Ization Talk 02:09, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
User:General Ization, thank you--I appreciate that. Drmies (talk) 02:11, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
Hey--well, "allegations" are a dime a dozen, and we would need to see some strong sourcing for that to be acceptable--multiple sources, national newspapers, that sort of thing. If I remember correctly you were citing a news item from XXL, but that's not a lot and you know they publish on every fart that someone overheard. An allegation--well, if there's a court case, and a conclusion to it, that's encyclopedic stuff, but an allegation just isn't much. In fact I just removed some stuff from Ski Mask the Slump God, where there was an allegation or whatever, and bail, and then nothing--and that was years ago. Does that make sense? Drmies (talk) 02:11, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
That's fine, but I think that's inherently flawed.
Anyway, I appreciate your response. Wikipedious1 (talk) 02:17, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
It's in line with the spirit of the BLP--an allegation just being an allegation--and another one, WP:NOTNEWS. Take care, Drmies (talk) 02:18, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

July music

story · music · places

Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:03, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers the chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:52, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Main Page history/2024 July 30b had a baritone, a violinist, a composer and a Bach cantata, - almost too much, and the composer's article, Wolfgang Rihm, improved much over the last days, could still grow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:32, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

NPA/NOTHERE on Kosovo article

Hi there Drmies, apologies if I'm bothering. On 14 July, I reverted an addition by Typical Albanian (talk · contribs). They then reverted me. I proceeded to open a talk page section regarding the issue where I pinged them and explained my reasoning. They however have refused to engage or respond on the talk page.

Instead, they've slow edit-warred and yesterday removed content without using any edit summary which I then reverted. Today, they reverted again while making accusations.

They reverted again, making personal attacks. The page has a 1RR for over 24 hours which they've also broken. --Griboski (talk) 18:51, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

You very well mentioned that you are the one that started this whole thing. You removed referenced by a credible source content with a joke description. Who gives you the right to classify what is correct and what not? Who also gives you the right to leave on the article what only you write and delete all others that do not fit your agenda? You've turned this simple true addition into a personal "fight" with me. You are aggressively insisting into making the article as you wish, provoking edit-wars. I do not know why this particular addition to the article, this operation, has such a great importance to you!?
You are on the wrong here! Complain as much as you want to whoever you want but I think you just need to chill down and quit Wikipedia for a few days until you calm down. Typical Albanian (talk) 19:16, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Good projection. Just like in your edit summaries. --Griboski (talk) 19:59, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Typical Albanian, I don't think we've met. I don't think I've met Griboski. I'm not Albanian, I'm not anti-Albanian or for or against Kosovo, I'm not in any way involved in the Balkan (except for that I'd love to go there), and I have no stake in the article. In other words, I am completely uninvolved--please see WP:INVOLVED. I am looking at your edits, and particularly those edit summaries, and believe me when I say that I will not hesitate to block you if you continue in this way. Your edit summaries are way too personal, they turn the history into a battleground, they are not collegial, they violate WP:AGF, and I could go on. My colleague El_C notified you a year ago of the sanctions that can be imposed by uninvolved administrator on editors who are troublesome in troublesome editors--but even WP:BATTLEGROUND already offers a way to a block. Let's not go down that road any further. Stop making things personal. Discuss editorial content. Let cooler heads prevail. Drmies (talk) 00:23, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
I think you are focusing too much on my edit summaries instead of focusing in the edit and what is happening on its own. When Griboski starts removing my added referenced content here, that doesn't tell ring any bell to you? And you're here mentioning being collegial to me. And I am making things personal? You might be able to block me or do whatever you want, but that won't make you or Griboski right.
Anyhow, I will not reply here anymore! Have a nice day! Typical Albanian (talk) 11:45, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
I'm an administrator: I'm not here to adjudicate content. If you get blocked, you will get blocked for behavior, most likely--the quality of the edits will likely have little to do with anything. Drmies (talk) 16:55, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

A puzzle

An IP user (geolocates to Thailand) spent 4 August creating a double handful of Talk pages on image files all of which are tagged for deletion after 5 August for copyright issues. Maybe it's a soon-to-be moot question, but what the heck? Geoff | Who, me? 12:31, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

  • Good question. It might well be a gimmick to get autoconfirmed--look at a category with files up for deletion and add WikiProjects to the talk page? I suppose it's less visible than making lousy copy edits in main space. Let's see what happens. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 15:40, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Sock alert

Hi Drmies, Hope you're doing well. Could you please block Melûmat Rozdar? In their second edit, this account recreated a G5ed article initially created by one of the socks of the LTA WP:HEVAL. Thank you, Aintabli (talk) 21:47, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Nevermind. I reported them on meta-wiki, and that account has now been globally locked. Though, they might need to be tagged as an obvious sock here before the article they created is G5ed. Aintabli (talk) 22:04, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

An apology after more than 3 years

Hello Drmies, I am writing this just to express my apologies regarding the events that happened in May 2021. Back then, I was horrible at English, used Google Translate for most messages, did not quite understand how IP blocking worked, and of course, I was immature. Recently, I decided to log onto Wikipedia and while I was viewing things I did in the past, I can't help but notice this argument that happened such a long time ago, thus I wanted to apologize about my past behaviors. The IP block does not matter to me anymore, since I have moved to a new place, and the IP block should be over now.

P.S. I said that I will never give up in a reply, I did not want to give up, but I was threatened by an admin that I will be banned from editing if I did not stop filing appeals :/

Hello! I wanted to ask if you'd be willing to keep half-an-eye on the Black people in Japan page as an admin that did admin things in the Yasuke fiasco. I'm worried it's getting a little close to edit-warring but I don't know enough about edit-warring to know if I should file a report at WP:ANEW or not. I'm more worried about potential BLP violations on the talk, but again, not my area of expertise. My main issue is that I just don't have time to read through all the policy to follow up on those concerns right now. Since I'm not confident enough that policy-vios are happening to bring it to a noticeboard, would you mind checking it out and maybe even adding to your watchlist? Mitt Romney

You have twice removed well sourced and telling information about American politician Mitt Romney. The information includes a well sourced guide to the history of his relationship with Donald Trump and some of his policy positions plus how he has lost the support of many Republicans calling him a Republican in name only. Maurnxiao (talk) 16:11, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

This article that you proded was deleted at AFD in 2010 and re created shortly after so may qualify for G4. However the AFD was a long time ago. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:46, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

LOUT question

Hi Drmies, I have come across an account I suspect is WP:LOUTSOCKing which I first noticed at Draft:Cepia LLC (account created the draft and a couple minutes later the IP submitted it) so I left the account a warning few days ago but noticed they are continuing so ran an EIA (which oddly does not include the referenced draft?). The IP's history goes back some time and they have been blocked, last time back in January but the account was not created until July. SPI is so backlogged I hate to file one and I am not sure if LOUT is appropriate for SPI anyway given CUs can't comment on IPs but should I file one? S0091 (talk) 17:59, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Mitt Romney

The article is definitely better now but still, by scattering what I wrote about his relationship with Trump throughout the article, you defeat the purpose, which was to show the inconsistency of that relationship. Maurnxiao (talk) 13:43, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

  • Thanks, but precisely that purpose was the problem. Highlighting their relationship in that way, in a separate section called "Criticism", is NPOV--particularly since there really wasn't much criticism: you reported some facts, and "criticism" ("inconsistency") was your conclusion. I'm no fan of Romney, and I'm no fan of Trump, but when I'm on Wikipedia I'm a fan of the BLP first. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 15:09, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
Maybe we could keep the section but change the name. Original it was Possible hypocrisy but that does not seem neutral. Maurnxiao (talk) 20:34, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
  • One more thing: I also believe in FA. This is not a huge thing, but please hear me out. I thought I saw a numerical date in one of your references earlier, and the article uses the "August 10, 2024" format. I went through the article: there are 277 "accessdates", and four of them were numerical; two of those were yours. When you edit any article, but especially an FA, please keep the formatting consistent--it's one of the factors in FA review. So just check very quickly and adjust your citation (which I think was probably done in an automated fashion) accordingly--thanks. Drmies (talk) 15:20, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Wilhelmina Slater

So I encounter you once again on a random "jesus christ, who wrote all this" situation for a TV show from many years ago (MI High was the last one IIRC).

I think the article should still be redirected. I understand the actress won awards for the performance but I believe that would make her notable rather than the character, though willing to hear your thoughts. Rambling Rambler (talk) 20:51, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

  • Yeah--who wrote all that? I tried to look for the villain award, but someone just stuck that shit in without verification, and the link for the other thing is that. Sorry, my revert was a bit reflexive and based on the lead--afterward, as you can see in my summaries, I started agreeing with you more and more. Go with the redirect, if that's what your heart tells you. Me, I'm wondering if I should buy a book on knitting with dog hair, which is probably more useful than trying to improve that article. Drmies (talk) 21:53, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
    • @Drmies I think a better use of your time would be writing a book of various idioms you've used while smashing your face into the wall that is utter dogshit Wikipedia articles.
    • I swear, there should be a guild for what I call "cutters" on this site, because boy do we need more of them given how much "fandom" crap that seems to be every briefly popular but now dead TV show on this site. Rambling Rambler (talk) 22:02, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

At some point there was a ceremony of sorts, where they rode a dolly full of boxes of copy paper onto the stage, and said that some project of theirs that they ran in India had produced THAT many additional content for Wikipedia. I looked at that and thought, well, I probably deleted that much cruft from Wikipedia. I don't think I announced that to anyone; I'm not necessarily proud of it. Anyway, couple months (?) later the shit hit the fan, and I wish I could remember where and how I heard this--an overwhelming amount of that material was plagiarized and had to be removed. ;) Drmies (talk) 22:14, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
That sounds about right for what I've seen on Wikipedia. It's quite funny because I've just done a quick run and gun on the Ugly Betty main article and it's ridiculous how it hit its max size in 2010 and then has basically been largely untouched since, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a pattern where shows that had their popularity before the popularisation of wikia are likely to have far more fan shite on them than those post-wikia given there's now a nice creche for all the fans to go and have their hyper-specific needs met in. Rambling Rambler (talk) 22:26, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
Yes, I remember that Boston conference back when we were young and everybody thought that Jimbo had all the answers and that professors could assign students to write Wikipedia articles and since students want A grades, the articles would all be great and the students would love editing Wikipedia so much that they would keep editing on their own initiative. The education in India initiative was a fiasco and most of the content that wasn't plagiarized was very poor for a variety of other reasons. So it goes. Cullen328 (talk) 22:39, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of John Ebnezar

Hi friend, Your deletion tag on the article John Ebnezar refers. It appears that a few pieces of infrmation have been added to the article without citations. Minotaur

Hello Drmies, just noticed that you have been working away on the article for the Minotaur. I want to give you a heads up cause I was working on expanding it (in sfn formatted citations) via a separate userspace for convenience. I had a different layout in mind when expanding the article and how it could get up to GA and FA. if you are interested in its continued expansion feel free to check it out. Paleface Jack (talk) 21:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

  • Sounds great--I think I was just screwing around a bit. I don't know anything about sfn, except that I copy and paste the format if need be. What I would suggest is that I don't see the need for three sections of references. Primary texts, sure, maybe, but I wouldn't not distinguish between "Modern" and "Scholarly" sources--you got a book from Johns Hopkins in the Modern section, and that's plenty scholarly. More sections also make it more complicated for readers to find them (if they're the reading kind, not the clicking kind--that's older readers). I know historians are fond of doing that, but I think it just adds complexity. Hey, good luck with it--I'll be happy to help, even if I'm no expert on the subject matter. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 22:03, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Can I ask why you reverted the Somali clans page? I mentioned in ES that I was restoring "good content". Most of the contributions you erased weren't made by the sockpuppet. I've already discussed with CFA. Solanif (talk) 20:31, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

An administrator seems to have taken personal offense that I deleted a comment he left on my talk page

Hi Drmies, sorry to bother you with this, but perhaps you can provide some perspective. I should say that I've already posted this to Liz's talk page, but she may be busy, or possibly just doesn't want to deal with it. It's eating at me.

SilkTork, an administrator you may know, has taken exception to an edit summary I used for an edit to the Captain Beefheart article. He came to my talk page and left this comment. He finished, as you can see, by saying, "If Beefheart were alive, I'd be giving you a formal warning for that. Best not do anything like that again!". Which is fine. I then deleted his comment with the edsum "read".

That seems to have angered him, and he responded with this edit, which included the words "I now feel obliged to keep an eye on you. Sigh. I hope I don't have to start searching through your contributions to see if there are other examples of inappropriate behaviour." This sounds like a threat to me. I understand that if I called a fellow editor "an egomaniacal dictatorial raging asshole", it would certainly be uncivil and a personal attack, but I said it about an article subject who has been dead for 14 years. Is that really a sanctionable offense? His response seems out of proportion to what I said, at least it does to me.

Seeing he had taken umbrage that I deleted his comment, I replied on my talk page with this edit. He has responded, and now I feel that I am being subjected to the same sort of bullying used by college students and others to extract apologies and promises to do better from persons who have offended their sensibilities. He seems determined to pursue this, and it appears that my nearly 13 years of editing WP count for nothing in his view, and all that matters is that I admit the error of my ways and promise not to leave such edit summaries in the future, or else. What do you think? Carlstak (talk) 21:42, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

  • Hmm I don't really know what to think, as I'm about to start making vegetable lasagna, something I'm not necessarily proud of. I don't really understand SilkTork's response, but I also don't really understand why you wrote that edit summary (that just looks bad in a history as one scrolls through edits) and I don't quite understand the long and somewhat personal response you wrote, but that's just me. What I do know is that, as the Dutch say, the soup is rarely eaten at the temperature at which it is served, and I don't think that SilkTork (whom, by the way, I haven't had many interactions with, but I also never heard anything bad about them) is about to start hounding you; indeed, now that I read their last comment on your talk page, I get a slightly fuller picture. As with so many things we have options: pursue or let go, and I know which one I would choose--it's more fulfilling in the long run, though it doesn't feel so in the present. I mean, you could just blank that section and say "I understand" or something like that in an edit summary. That's not an apology, I suppose, and maybe that's a thing you can do. Take care, and good luck to you-- Drmies (talk) 21:56, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your taking the time to reply. My long and overly personal response was probably a result of being in a bad state of mind, in other words, a sleep-deprived wreck. Maybe the edit summary I left on Beefheart's page was too, it just popped out. I don't think he wants to hear that, though. I believe that if I blanked the whole section, he'd really get mad. I'll come up with something. Thanks again. Carlstak (talk) 22:49, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Sure thing. Again, take care. Drmies (talk) 23:45, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Page protection request

Hello, there is a high volume of distruptive editing on the Isaaq Sultanate page, particularly from IP users. Could you please protect the page? Solanif (talk) 13:44, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

Hey Drmies, I was kind of curious about your content removal on the draft article [20]. Not that I'm opposed to it, by all means I understand that drafts are open to anyone to edit. Before I reverted it—I included it because at least I thought it was relevant—I was hoping you'd expand on your edit in more than a limited version allowed in an edit summary. Bobby Cohn (talk) 21:45, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

  • I don't see why his forays into journalistic writing were relevant to an article about that particular book. There's nothing journalistic about the book, really, but I'm not going to belabor the point. Sorry I entered your draft. Drmies (talk) 00:02, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
No worries at all, I'm happy to get feedback. I didn't want you thinking you couldn't help improve an article in the draft namespace. My thinking was background goes to what he has previously written about, given the topic of the particular book. But I'm know how one can spend enough time focused on a particular topic, you develop some blinders. And I find it easier to ask about about and help my writing than if I were to sit and wonder and try and go back and forth in the edit summaries.
Thanks for the response here! Kindly, Bobby Cohn (talk) 00:47, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Albania, not exactly my area of expertise

I noticed a report at WP:AN3 against Randomuser2412, the article Epirus. When I looked at the article history, it looked to me like a lot of editors were battling with each other. One in particular, Henrikurti, shared Randomuser's POV, making identical edits. Both users were created in October 2023, both have relatively few edits, and they seem to collaborate creating articles. I was going to file an SPI with the two users, but then in one of the articles, Uprising in Dibra (1920), I noticed two newer accounts, and I got a bit dizzy trying to decide whether to throw them in or not, or maybe they're related to each other but not to the older ones...babble, babble. The two newer users are PrekCali and Eternal Iliridan. Are you willing to sort this out? Thanks either way.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:50, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

August music

story · music · places

Today I have two "musicians" on the Main page, one is also the topic of my story, watch and listen, - I like today's especially because you see him at work, hear him talk about his work and the result of his work - rare! - There are several work places in the Netherlands, - could you perhaps check if there are more links to them? I did it for German (the list was there before I looked), but was tired enough afterwards to not try in a language I don't speak. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:06, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

... and a third, like 22 July but with interview and the music to be played today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:22, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. It's nice to have not only a recent death, but also this "birthday" on the Main page. And a rainbow in my places. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:27, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

today's story is about education, 10 years OTD after lecturing our founder). Music for today's feast is Monteverdi's, the best concert we ever did (so pictured again on my talk), but it wasn't recorded, substituted with a "Pacific" one that comes with subtitles line by line in Latin and English: I learned something! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:22, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Today is the birthday of Alma Mahler. I believe that Siegfried Lorenz should be mentioned on the Main page among the Recent deaths. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:01, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

... and he appeared! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:22, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Reply to edit war on Málaga CF article

Basically, on December 9, 2023, I reorganized a section of this article (First-team squad) based on the rules of the Royal Spanish Football Federation which states that players wearing numbers 1 to 25 are first-team players, while those wearing numbers 26 onwards are reserves (You can look it in this link, point 4in the page 5: https://rfef.es/sites/default/files/images19/001_primera_y_segunda_division.pdf). During this time there were no problems with this until July 13 of this year, when the user MalaguistaUK decided to put it as he saw fit. AlejandroR1990 (talk) 21:38, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

A brownie for you!

If you like dessert, just eat PickMe10 (talk) 10:56, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I'm thinking that PickMe10 is probably Wictoriamalawi. They're stale, but the CU data may be informative. PickMe10 has made 188 edits, and almost all of them intersect with the master. Pageant socks are a dime a dozen, and they're not always easy to sort out, but a check might result in technically possible or rule it out, which would help me decide whether to block.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:48, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I can't tell, Bbb--too stale. Stale as that brownie; I don't care for brownies. I confirmed them with Bina.biny99 and Celestecourtesi and blocked all of those, but I can't easily look for further connections right now. Have a great day! If you need me, I'll be in class, yapping about monuments for the Civil War, Civil Rights, and Lost Cause. Drmies (talk) 14:15, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I thought that the location might make it possible or unlikely. Not that I'm an expert in name origins, but Wictoriamalawi sounds African to me, whereas supposedly PickMe10 is Filipino-Spanish. Now they're blocked I suppose it's moot. "Yapping about monuments" - you do know how to turn a phrase.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:39, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I don't know the location of the Malawi account. "Yapping" is what the kids say these days; a fine example of yapping is at User talk:Bina.biny99. Later bro, Drmies (talk) 15:57, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

DMH223344 (talk) 21:11, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

DMH223344, is there a reason you're removing a pov tag when there is an active discussion about the pov concerns shared by multiple editors on the talk page? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:47, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Yes, as I mentioned in the talk page, the additions citing the party platform page are limited to the "Political positions" section or the "Platform" subsection. A POV tag on the whole article is of course inappropriate given that the additions in question are isolated to two sections. Additionally, the claim that citing a platform website for a description of the candidates platform violates WP:POV requires more justification. (Drmies said that the additions are not notable since secondary sources weren't cited, but that is also absurd--how is a description of the platform not notable enough to be included in a section about the platform itself?) DMH223344 (talk) 21:56, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
That sounds like a discussion for the talk page, with a tag to draw more voices into the discussion. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:06, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
This was a revert of an edit of yours? As for your "see the talk page" argument, you're basically arguing that you are right and therefore you are right. I really should have given you a vandalism warning for that POV tag removal--but in hindsight I maybe should have reverted the ENTIRE page to before you started adding subject-provided material. One big grand revert for dozens of edits--that's following the letter of 1R, maybe. Drmies (talk) 22:10, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
You did violate 1rr by removing the tag 21ish hours after your prior revert. Would you be so kind as to remedy that? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:16, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
ScottishFinnishRadish are you serious? OK, sure--so the disrupter and obvious COI editor wins. Shall I wait another 24 hours and then simply revert to the version of the article before they made dozens of edits? Drmies (talk) 23:27, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I appreciate your revert. I also think you only have to wait another hour or so. You should check the time stamps to make sure though. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:31, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
ScottishFinnishRadish, of course I'm not going to make such a grand revert (I'm not that much of an asshole), but you know we're dealing with a gamer. Drmies (talk) 23:33, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Very clever to call me a gamer then go and swap out the POV banner for another one over the entire article. Of course, only the sections about platform and political positions are self-published. DMH223344 (talk) 23:36, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
[21], and there's an AN thread from back in December. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:37, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Yes that was a revert of an edit of mine. 1RR applies to reverting in whole or in part. "you're basically arguing that you are right and therefore you are right.", and you are arguing what exactly? Instead of throwing out threats I'd prefer if you instead engaged with the content of the discussion. DMH223344 (talk) 22:51, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I'm arguing that you are a disruptive COI editor who knows enough to do just the right amount of wikilawyering, and that your arguments are crap. I'm also arguing that if that edit to the lead was indeed yours (who would know, in those dozens and dozens of edits?) you are really not a good writer. Also, you are taking up way too many paragraphs here, and I prefer economy. Drmies (talk) 23:27, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Well let's talk about content then, I'm happy to do so. As for COI, let's stick to the facts and not just throw accusations around. DMH223344 (talk) 23:32, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Afrique Victime

Recently got Afrique Victime to GA, and I want to bring it to FA, since you participated in the last review, and you're experienced in this topic, I just want to ask for advice. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 10:00, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

User:Vigilantcosmicpenguin, you said, in the review, "Some quotes could be paraphrased, like "stuttering percussion and grainy acoustics". That became this, "The song includes clapping, acoustic guitar runs, flickering percussion, and scratchy acoustics." [22] But "stuttering" isn't "flickering", "grainy" isn't "scratchy", and "acoustic guitar runs" is a direct quote. Drmies (talk) 11:21, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Oop, yeah, I overlooked that. If I had noticed the close paraphrase here I would've said it's less clear.
TheNuggeteer, I think you should pay attention to statements of fact that combine multiple sources. This statement is about the structure of the song, not about what reviewers think of it, so you shouldn't try to closely paraphrase the sources. Try just listing the instruments, and add adjectives only if they add useful information.
(P.S. Best of luck bringing it to FA! I've never done an FA before so I commend your hard work.)— Vigilant Cosmic Penguin 🐧(talk | contribs) 16:19, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Below-the-radar disruption

Hi Doc! This seems too small-ball for AE, but I continue to boycott AN/I, so as always am trying AN/I 2.0. Would you or a talkpage watcher mind taking a look at Special:Contribs/Sslaptnhablhat‎? Subsequent to this edit they were warned for in 2019 (which should probably be revdelled) accusing a living nonbinary person of murder, we've now got your run-of-the-mill "actually a man"-type edits on two transfeminine people's talkpages. Which, see my opinion here on why it's fine to believe that but often disruptive to express. We've also got "Up yours, antisemitic bastard" for, I gather, this ARBPIA edit. (One of three such insults, but the other two were at least in response to actual anti-Semitism in one case and anti-Israel POV-pushing in the other.) Oh we've also got some stupid edit-warring over the pronouns for Hermaphroditus, which seems like one of those things where everyone who tries to change it in any direction without consensus should be trouted at a minimum. Anyways, enjoy! -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe) 15:13, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Thanks. The real mystery is why this editor wasn't blocked before. Drmies (talk) 15:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
    • I've been thinking about this, in the context of this user and other below-the-radar cases I've found. I think the issue is a gap in our anti-abuse coverage: We have lots of users who are good at getting vandals blocked, but do so using tools that largely ignore autoconfirmed users; and we have lots of users who are good at reverting bad edits to articles they care about, but are looking at that on the article level rather than the user level. Both of these are fine ways to contribute to the encyclopedia, but they leave a gap of people who are in a position to spot these below-the-radar edits and then proceed with dealing with the matter as a user-conduct issue. Plus even if you bring it before an admin, there's a decent chance that it'll be someone who usually only deals with IPs and VOAs, who'll then say, well, it's only two vandal edits this month, and leave them a level-2 warning or something. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe) 16:32, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
      • Maybe. It's not unlike admins who delete an obvious spam user page, but leave an account with a promotion-only user name unblocked. I often revert and then look at the history before I decide on a warning or a block. Well let's see. Perhaps this user will see reason. Drmies (talk) 16:38, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

Possible IP evasion?

Hi, I see you were involved in blocking 80.233.0.0/18 and 80.233.49.59 for disruptive cat editing. If you have time, I was hoping you could quietly look at 86.40.54.89 who has been very active recently in the same area. Most of their edits are fine, and in fact I can see efforts to improve (e.g previous additions of Expatriate sportspeople in Fooland have been upgraded to the correct Barian expatriate sportspeople in Fooland) but there are still a lot, some slightly wrong but too many really to check unless I want to devote my whole day to chasing their edits, no summaries or talk engagements to get an idea of what they're thinking, and obviously if it is a block evasion that's a level up from a minor irritant. I realise the IP range itself is quite different, I'm not smart enough to know if that automatically rules them out of being the same. [edit 4 hours later: Oh, and also 86.40.250.3 which I habve just come across?] Thanks. Crowsus (talk) 14:04, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Tipping off

Good evening, top of the same to you!

Per this warning here you made here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Correctinformer007), just another useless "user" as far as i'm concerned. Have seen them do this time and time again; as you know, sometimes clubs change names, not just in football but in all sorts of sports. This "user" is having none of that and they'll change everything and then some to accommodate their preferred version, even in SOURCES (!) where the title of a newspiece is what it is (have a look at here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tiri_(footballer)&diff=next&oldid=1245380833 and here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Antonio_L%C3%B3pez_(footballer,_born_1957)&diff=prev&oldid=1245386145).

You have been briefed, attentively RevampedEditor (talk) 22:34, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Indeed, they all lead there because that's the CURRENT name of the club. Before, it was called ATK and then ATK Mohun Bagan. But the user has no business misleading readers writing a given club was called something it was not (i repeat, they change ALL instances to Mohun Bagan SG, even in SOURCES!
