Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Clicking Bad (2nd nomination)
You closed the Afd at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Clicking Bad (2nd nomination) as no consensus, yet nobody suggested keeping it. How can that be no consensus? --Bejnar (talk) 15:01, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- Because there was no consensus for deletion, simply enough, for two reasons: an apparent lack of interest, and two non-marked !votes which showed hesitancy for deletion. First point, generally at least three !votes are required for a consensus at AFD. I may, occasionally, close an uncontested AFD as if it were a prod, which brings us to the second point: resistance towards deletion. Although neither Smuckola nor Odie5533 !voted keep or delete, it was clear that both considered the topic of the article possibly notable. That is enough reasonable doubt to avoid closing the AFD as if it were a prod. As is often said, AFD is not a simple vote, but a discussion. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:57, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- If there was inadequate discussion, why did you not extend the time? --Bejnar (talk) 19:04, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- What, for a third time, when no-one had commented in a week since you left your views? Now that would have been pointless... A "no-consensus" close doesn't prevent a renomination at AFD in due course if you're that concerned about it. BencherliteTalk 21:40, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- Bejnar, read WP:RELIST, particularly "in general, debates should not be relisted more than twice." That's why I didn't relist. You can bring the article to AFD after a reasonable period (a couple weeks, or a month) and try again. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:08, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Could you possibly have a look at this GAN? I didn't have time to finish it, but it has a ton of problems I had hoped to work through with the nominator. As it is, because I took so long because I knew it was a monumental task, the nominator appears to think that they should ignore everything I said.
The article's full of poorly-introduced, poorly-explained concepts, and the worst thing that could happen to it was a non-careful reviewer promoting it too readily. Adam Cuerden (talk) 12:21, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not particularly familiar with the field. In a perfect world, Wehwalt would be able to help, but I'm sure he's quite busy. If I have the time I'll try and take a look. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:58, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'm better at articles that don't need a ton of fixing. If it can pass a GAN from an experienced editor, I'll gladly peer review it or contribute to the FAC. I've actually been giving some thought to doing the 1840 election ...--Wehwalt (talk) 16:01, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well, if a Canadian can do something with this, there may be hope yet. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:08, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

Crisco, I'm very uncomfortable about what has happened with this one. Adam basically disappeared from the review for a month and a half (see User talk:Adam Cuerden#Talk:United States presidential election, 1844/GA1, and I removed him as reviewer on April 15 (query on his talk page; reply on the review itself, a move he concurred with a few hours later. Today, following the above, he reappears for the second time in the review after his removal—mind, the GA nominee template lists the current review as GA2 not GA1, since GA1 was ended at the point he was removed over a week ago, and it's sitting in the review pool like all regular nominations—and then edits the article talk page to say that it's failed, even though he wasn't the reviewer any more.
My initial impulse was to revert the FailedGA: Adam stepped away, and really has no business stepping back in at this point. But I wanted your take on it first, as an uninvolved admin. If you don't want to be involved further, I suppose I could always ask Wizardman. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:16, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- I know the background; I visit Adam's talk page often enough to have seen the notes. I haven't been involved in GAN as much as I used to be, so I may be out of touch with this. We can, I think, consider this as having been renominated and, as a form of apology to the nominator, arrange for it to be reviewed more quickly than if left to the pool itself. We seem to have done this with articles which were failed owing to piss-poor reviews or reviews by socks, I think (not that this is either of those; rather, it should be given a quick review owing to the length of waiting). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:21, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- I did recheck, and Adam appears to have opened and quickfailed the GA2 review, not continued the GA1 review that he'd been removed from and failed it. I still think this was inappropriate. I'll let you take care of it. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:16, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Will start a GA review, once I finish this translation. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:23, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- BlueMoonset, it's not nominated right now... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:39, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll add back the GA nominee template, this time with |page=3 though with the same time and nominator fields (which will create a GA3 page when you start the review). Give me a couple of minutes... BlueMoonset (talk) 03:43, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
-
- You can start the review from the article talk page now. It won't show up at WP:GAN for another four minutes or so. Thank you very much for taking this on. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:48, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, be right over there. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:53, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well, Adam Cuerden and BlueMoonset, I've started the review. Adam's right, there is some serious heavy lifting needed. I already killed 4,000 bytes with the image review. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:45, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Union Films
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Union Films you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Main Page appearance: Roekiah
This is a note to let the main editors of Roekiah know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 5, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at present, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 5, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:
Roekiah (1917–1945) was a kroncong singer and film actress from the Dutch East Indies. Born to two actors, she began her career at the age of seven, and by 1932 had become well-known in Batavia. Around this time she met her husband Kartolo. The two acted in the 1937 hit Terang Boelan, with Roekiah starring alongside Rd Mochtar; after the film's commercial success, Roekiah, Kartolo, and most of the cast and crew of Terang Boelan were signed to Tan's Film. They appeared in three films for the company, beginning with Fatima in 1938, before Mochtar left in 1940; his departure ended a partnership which had spawned numerous imitators. Mochtar's replacement, Djoemala, acted with Roekiah in four films, beginning with Sorga Ka Toedjoe, although these were less successful. During the peak of her career, Roekiah was a fashion and beauty icon, featuring in advertisements and drawing comparisons to Dorothy Lamour and Janet Gaynor. After the Japanese invaded the Indies in 1942, Roekiah took only one more film role before her death. Of her five children with Kartolo, one – Rachmat Kartolo – entered acting. Roekiah has often been cited as one of Indonesia's film pioneers. (Full article...)
You (and your talk-page stalkers) may also be interested to hear that there have been some changes at the TFA requests page recently. Nominators no longer need to calculate how many "points" an article has, the instructions have been simplified, and there's a new nomination system using templates based on those used for DYK suggestions. Please consider nominating another article, or commenting on an existing nomination, and leaving some feedback on your experience. Thank you. UcuchaBot (talk) 23:01, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
Crisco, this has been sitting for over a month. Do you have any opinions on its notability? Thanks for anything you can do to get it moving again, even if it's ultimately in a direction that ends up making it ineligible for DYK. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:27, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Rubens
Added the The Fall of Phaeton to article. Crisco, there is a gorgious picture that I want to use in the article but is bluish. Will you give me advice on if anything can be done with it? You should know. Actually I am using it, in Pieter Paul Rubens; but it jumps out from the gallery as blue. Hafspajen (talk) 13:40, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

- EH, Crisco, what kind of hook is that? That painting was NOT at the Salon, and was not considered erotically to sugestive, the whole hook is false. And it was not exactly a consensus, either. [1]Hafspajen (talk) 18:19, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I wonder sometimes why people make such a fuss about the correct hook, because this one went down with no picture whatsoever that was at the salon, we don't even know if it was Aurora or Venus, but never mind, we have neither of them, and this hook is so totally incorrect. We didn't even had an erotically suggestive picture, I added one now,and might need to add more I guess so people don't feel cheated. I guess I have to now. DYK for Union Films
On 24 April 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Union Films, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Union Films attempted to draw educated audiences by hiring a doctor to star in their film? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Union Films. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Please correct
Talk:Leavitt Bulldog. You have stated that I outed someone. Please check again, that wasn't me doing the outing. Please check your facts before you threaten someone with being blocked. (I realize that it was probably a slip and you hit the wrong person, but please correct what you wrote.) P.S. I'm not at all sure what you mean by outing, whether it was the statement about my gender (I can live with that), or repeating information already given by Ss 051 on the dispute resolution noticeboard where he clearly identified himself as the registrar of the club. This situation needs cool heads, please! Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:38, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

- Those people go ballistic ower their bulldogs ower there (not Sminthopsis84, he is just trying to help) and Phil ... doesn't think that an unregistered dog breed is notable. Well maybe not acording to American Kennel Club. I ...have no idea. I think maybe but I am not sure. I tried to make them go to Dispute resolution - but that failed. Hafspajen (talk) 14:45, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- All registered breeds had to start from somewhere. Personally, if there is in-depth coverage from reliable sources (mainstream, perhaps?) about this breed as an actual thing, that's enough notability for me. It just needs to be noted as an unregistered breed. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:50, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Sorry but since when I cannot just work on this page.
I have had a warning on harassment from Chris troutman not on working the page.
I do still think the warning was overestimated but I accepted without an debate but that will not make me an outlaw or something like that.
I think you owe me an apology sins now you have discriminated my name falsely on the Leavitt Bulldog Talk page and I only undid something what others do all the time.

- thank you for your thank. Freedombulls, can you please modify your comment above a little bit? I would remove the part: you have discriminated my name falsely on the Leavitt Bulldog. Like i said that was handled and i accepted that.
That had nothing to do with me undo a subject.
So for you warning me on WP WP:OUTING" on a undo subject seems to me a bit strange.
I was already warned I did not do it again so why use it again on me if I may ask?
Don’t get me wrong I write this with respect but I do feel you have a grudge towards me which I cannot understand.--Freedombulls (talk) 15:37, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- I fail to understand your point. "Undo a subject"? What do you mean? Reverting your outing of another editor? That was 1) required by policy and 2) not me. The revdeletes were likewise required by policy. I haven't done anything else at that talk page. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:42, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Ahem, Freedombulls is Dutch... (from Amsterdam). But policy is policy. Hafspajen (talk) 15:51, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Freedombulls: I don't want to beat a dead horse on this. I issued you a warning on your talk page and that was it. No one else issued any warning to you on this talk page, on your talk page, or on the article talk page. The Wikipedia community is willing to let it go so long as there's no repeat. There was only a question about if you read the outing policy. You are owed no apology and if you feel you deserve one, then Wikipedia is not for you.
- I have no part in this bulldog discussion. These other editors have registered their opinion and there seems to be no end to the disagreement. I would recommend you take some time off and rethink this argument before trying to find resolution. Remember, Wikipedia is just a website. It's not so important to get worked up over. Why give it again on 24 apr 2014 14:42 (UTC) by Crisco 1492

Sorry that was for Freedombulls: your comment right?
That means that the warning to Sminthopsis84 was for me which already was handled by Chris troutman.
Why use it again on me when I did a undu (button) on SagaciousPhi’s work.
It was unappropriated if you ask me and it make me look bad in the history of the talk page.--Freedombulls (talk) 15:56, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Can we just start asuming a little bit of Good fait? If there is an editor that is trying to contribute in a good way, it is Freedombulls. Ever since he started it was nothing but drama and everybody against him, right? Nobody really tries to calm down on this subject, I really don't understand why people can't leave the Leawitt Bulldog alone. Hafspajen (talk) 16:08, 24 April 2014 (UTC)I did warned once Freedombulls, by the way.
- (edit conflict) @Freedombulls: Oh, ok. I see what you mean. That was a mistake. Crisco was responding to a comment mistaken for you. It happens. Crisco didn't repeat it. Everyone makes mistakes, including me. I'd ask that you overlook it. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:11, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- You two, admin Crisco and Chris Troutman, you are cool guys. Something has to be done, it has to come to some kind of solution, this can't go on like this. User Ss thinks Leawitt Bulldog is wrong and vice versa, Phil stirring up things because Leawitt Bulldog is not AKC.. or whatever... Sminthopsis84 is angry ... and trying to work things out best he can... Everybody is just behaving crazy about this topic and see what happens all the time. I really think that everybody stopped thinking clearly by now. Crisco, ANY SOLUTION? (Hafspajen (talk) 16:17, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- You know, the Bulldog breed does have healt issues, fattigue, breeathing problems, and so no. These breeding programs are up to make the Bulldog breed healthier. Phil argues that it should be the real Bulldog breed that it should be the target of this kind of ameliorating. But that is not easy to do now when the AKC has a fixed breed, and fixed feathures. The new breeds has longer nose and leggs, for ex. There is actually a Leawitt Bulldog Assotiation. The Leavitt Bulldog get 761 000 hits on Google. There are breeders, [4] other organisations, [5], there is controversy, [6] between two dog breeder groups, Olde English Bulldog (user Ss) and Leawitt Bulldog - controversy what is right and wrong about these breeds, and they are cute, [7]. Hafspajen (talk) 17:30, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Nowhere have I stated my opinion as to whether it should be the 'real Bulldog breed' or anything else to that effect. I have simply re-iterated that I do not feel these dogs meet the notability guidelines at present. I also don't think Crisco's talk page is the platform for this debate. Sorry for dragging you into this, Crisco. SagaciousPhil - Chat 18:06, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I think it might be the right place. We do need an admin and a solution, this is tearing up everybody's nerves. Hafspajen (talk) As far as I remember you said that to me once, Phil, and I am not against you or Ss or Freedombulls or Sminthopsis84, because I like you all, each and everyone of you 18:18, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well, any ideas? I like Sagaciousphil very very much, but I fel sorry for all ther others who try to do something they belive in. I don't feel like arguing with Phil, who is probably already angry with me at this point, but something has to be done. Will you think of a possible solution? - I say everyone takes a break, myself included. I have two more images I want to edit and upload (larger versions of this and this), so I'll be shutting down Firefox now to do the editing. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:22, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- MMmmm, lovely images, look like meringue, lemon meringue pie and other meringue-topped desserts... Sigh, well... I don't put much hope into taking breakes - for the simple fact that there was several breaks along the way - and everything blow up again. Hafspajen (talk) 12:37, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Help.
Hi. Mr Crisco may you help me in reviewing my change here because its been state as not appear constructive by User Epeefleche. ibensis (What’s the Story?) 21:12, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- If anything, your edits are more POV than the (cited) information you were removing (i.e. the addition of the links to Saudi charity. User Epeefleche was right to revert. If you think that the article is biased against the IIRO, then you should discuss on the talk page, rather then edit war, per WP:BRD. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:37, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oh okay. I apreciate your helping advice. at least i try to say that all the information by that anonymous is deliberately false information. Epeefleche think i'm misdoubt The UN and The Treasury Dept. I never say that, but where is the article from UN and US gov that claiming that organization is terroris organization. nothing. so it was wrong accusastion. I'am sorry for to much talk here. I'm not interesting to discuss it anymore in talkpage. I think it will be useless to debate. I'm not fluent in english anyway so is kind of difficult to discuss it. but I really thank you. Advice, please
Am still working on Red Skelton; one suggestion you made was to rearrange the article in chronological order. Started doing that but found it was easier to do it in my sandbox. The article has been "hit" by two instances of content being copied from here and used with a copyright notice. Talk:Red Skelton. I want to avoid any misunderstanding about where this has come from (my sandbox). Think that copy and paste would be the best way to go but want it to be clear that it wasn't taken from anywhere but WP. The rest of the adding/re-doing should be able to be done on the article itself without making it a mess for readers. What do I do to get it from there to here and keep it "legal" ? :-) Thanks, We hope (talk) 13:23, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Am hoping to get back to tapping away on this next week but think it should (somehow) be on the article. ;-) We hope (talk) 00:47, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Perhaps I'm still somewhat asleep, but is the issue that an outside source has copied text from the article and now the bot is tagging your draft as a copyvio, or that you are copying and pasting from your sandbox to the article and someone is taking issue with it? Or you're just not sure if you can copy and paste from your sandbox to the article? For the last one; it's fine, so long as you are the sole editor. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:37, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe I should go to sleep. :) I copied from the article to my sandbox and re-worked quite a bit of it so it would be in chronological order and now want to replace the article with what's in the sandbox so the rest can be done on the article itself. No one's worked in my sandbox but me. We hope (talk) 02:57, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Then when you copy it back you need only copy and paste. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:27, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Just want to say thanks for clarifying it for me. Hadn't used my sandbox for anything other than to store links to find refs, etc. until now. We hope (talk) 00:57, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Given this diff in which Chris troutman reverted to reversion 605578306 by Sagaciousphil is public, consider restoring revision 605578306 and at least the 06:55 if not both the 06:55 and 06:00 edits by Freedombulls as well, as the contents of one or both of these edits is part of the non-revision-deleted page history by virtue of Chris troutman's edit. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:07, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Problem is, the outing (i.e. the issue which led to the revdelete) is still visible in all three revisions you mention, even if it was not added with those diffs. Thus, they cannot be restored. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:34, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- So, either Chris troutman did the right thing and massaged the "reversion to edit 60578306" before he saved it, or that version and possibly subsequent versions may need to be revision-deleted. I'm not seeing any obvious outing in Chris troutman's edit, but if you could compare it against the "reverted-to" edit (diff that I can't see - 0-byte size difference) to make sure it was in fact excised, it would be a very good thing. If it was not excised, then do what needs to be done with subsequent edits. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:46, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- If you are not an admin you cannot independently confirm the outing, owing to the rev deletion. You can ask Chris troutman to confirm that there was outing (he reverted, after all) if you don't believe me. Subsequent versions are clean, since the outing was removed. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:14, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Enough
Crisco, please stop lecturing me here. [15] It's demeaning. I will not be scolded like a schoolboy, and you should adopt such a condescending tone. This is not a junior high school class.
My original remark on this FP was brusque, which probably reflects my background in journalism, where internal discussions tend to be brief and brash, sometimes profane. One learns to roll with the punches. I've tried to make some of my comments in a humorous vein, but you seem not to understand that.
On WP discussion pages, users sometimes expend far too much verbiage on minor points (as I've pointed out regarding several sports-related ITN nominations), and IMO are all to quick to take offense at others' statements. This is immature behavior. However, in view of the exaggerated reaction in this instance, I will not say "ZZZzzz" again, and will state my view in English. I don't wish to offend anyone.
I stand by my argument that when a composition is selected as a Featured Picture, it should be intrinsically interesting and compelling, not merely illustrative (EV-wise) of some thing, person or topic. As one of the most-viewed websites on the Net, we should be putting our best foot forward — which some FPs have not done.
I'm saying this here to avoid provoking further pointless discussion at the entry referenced above. Sca (talk) 14:12, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- PS: I could weigh in with an oppose on [16] — which does not strike me as sufficiently interesting due to being essentially monochormatic — but I'm not going to because you are the nominator and I don't wish to start up another debate with you. Furthermore, it doesn't seem important to me whether we feature another pic. of a butterly. (Besides, User:Hafspajen likes it!) Sca (talk) 14:30, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- . Is it full moon or what? Hafspajen (talk) 14:56, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Closer to a new moon (4/29). As Goethe said, "Mehr Licht!" — Or as the saying goes, "Less heat and more light!" Sca (talk) 15:28, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Sca, I understand that you are attempting to convey humor through several of your support and oppose votes. Sometimes I even join in (like in the groundhog nomination, with a joke about having something other than a bird). However, there are 2 things that should be kept in mind: 1) in the newsroom setting the people are generally (not always; The Jakarta Post and its foreign/domestic staff comes to mind) of similar cultural backgrounds, speaking in person, and familiar with each others' shorthand and sense of humour; this does not hold true for online interactions, especially on Wikipedia. As such, we need to elaborate a wee bit more, and keep in mind how someone outside our own frame of mind would read a post. 2) We have Commons for Featured Pictures which are all about "Wow!", which is what you're describing. Wikipedia is, first and foremost, an encyclopedia, which means that an image's value to the encyclopedia is given equal (if not greater) value than its aesthetics. There are several images I've nominated not because I liked them as images, but because they had great value to the encyclopedia (off the top of my head, Situation Room, Streatham portrait, and Nocturne in Black and Gold – The Falling Rocket). This point is something you (apparently) disagree with, yet (as I've been pointing out) should be kept in mind.
- That being said, so long as the first point is addressed I'll be satisfied... just keep in mind that how you frame your opposes is quite important. Something like "Oppose - The butterfly does not contrast well with the background. Something like this would be much more useful." would draw no ire, despite being (essentially) the same point.
- I don't mean to come across as lecturing you, and your feedback (both here and at FPC) is appreciated greatly. I'm just hoping that we can keep the process running smoothly and avoid unnecessary drama. Speaking of drama... *ghost voice* bewareeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the Main Page on 2 May 2014 — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:25, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

- Actually, my favorite coffee mug is white china with a cobalt blue geometric design and says Rügener Becher on it in Fraktur.
- Nocturne in Black and Gold looks like it could've been painted by Čiurlionis. [17] Sca (talk) 17:31, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Interesting how many painters we have that are quite good but not very well known. Like Tivadar Kosztka Csontváry., for example. If the guy was French, he would have been world-famous. Hafspajen (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, interesting artist of whom I've never heard. I like his Lonely cedar. Sounds like he was kinda wacko personally, though, as was Čiurlionis. (I suppose Tivadar is a former of Theodore - ?) Sca (talk) 21:19, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Eh, he was a wacko, but his paintings are good. Maybe we can find an FP and make him famous? (the EX-Theodore)Hafspajen (talk) 21:21, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- That would be fantastic. We've got like 10 Rembrandts, and 5 Leonardos... something obscure would be really nice. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:15, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Not that one can have to many Rembrands, but the size, have you checked? This above, Ruins of the Greek Theatre at Taormina is the only one with the required pixs. From the whole bunch of this artist production. The lonely cedar (The Solitary Cedar) is 880x 692? something like that. Hafspajen (talk) 09:42, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- "Csontváry’s painting of nearly 20 square metres is one of the best-known Hungarian works". Not enough pixels. Nowhere near enough pixels. If this was a miniature, maybe. But 20 square metres? Like, what, 4*5 metres? This is not enough. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:46, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

- Too bad. We might ask Sca to drive to Pécs and take some pictures? There are in the museum there. Plenty of good vine and food, gorgious views and cheep. Good hotels, recomend the biggest and oldest,--Grand was it? UNESCO World Heritage Site also to be found. Nice weekend trip... Hafspajen (talk) 14:50, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- For the 20 square metre one, that would require a professional camera to get the resolution required to pass. For a smaller image, you might be able to get by with a DSLR... might. Very unlikely though, considering how much noise would be introduced in museum conditions (unless you were to have a very long exposure...) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:08, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
Interpretation/opinion requested
Hi Crisco-
Based on this entry over at Commons, can I infer/understand that publishing images of banknotes from Chile that are over 70 years old and (more importantly) no longer in circulation, are not prohibited? If so, would I use a PD-Chile or 70-year template, or simply enter it through English Wikipedia versus Commons? Many thanks for your input.--Godot13 (talk) 03:08, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- Based on my reading of the (very legalese) English there, it's possible that out of circulation banknotes may be uploaded. However, barring an explicit exclusion of such, I'd tread very lightly in that area... would these banknotes be "Work published anonymously, under a pseudonym or the author is unknown (except 3):"? That terminology doesn't necessarily exempt legal bodies, AFAIK. I think though, for pre-1923 banknotes which are no longer in circulation, a Wikipedia upload would be acceptable. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:02, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, it's three notes: 1925, 1927, 1928. To be conservative this might require an email to the Bank (so perhaps I'll be able to use them for Wikicup 2015) ;-) Thanks-Godot13 (talk) 05:21, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Copyright status of this image
Hey Crisco, I could use your insights on something.
This evening, I've been working on a collage for Baghdad's Wikipedia article, not unlike ones we have for other cities (e.g. Milan, Istanbul). One of the images I used was this one, uploaded on February 2014 by User:Botsojoy. It's a candidate to be transferred over to Wikimedia Commons, but I'm slightly reluctant to do so because I can't seem to verify that Botsojoy is in fact who he says he is. The image already exists on Flickr, where downloading appears to be disabled and the copyright is set as "All Rights Reserved". You obviously have more experience with these things than I have. As it stands, is this image currently suitable for Commons? What can be done to verify that Botsojoy is the original author (i.e. same as the Flickr user), or is there already enough information to assume that he is? I'm also wary of uploading my collage to Commons or Wikipedia proper until this is sorted out. Kurtis (talk) 02:06, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Deletion review for Amal Alamuddin
Hi, I'm writing to you because you closed the AfD for Amal Alamuddin on April 16. An article with the same name was later created and then speedily deleted on CSD G4 grounds. I asked for a deletion review a couple of days ago and it has just occurred to me that you might wish to comment. Fyi you can find the discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review#Amal Alamuddin. Apologies for the delay in notifying you. - Pointillist (talk) 23:21, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- Alright, let me have a look. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:54, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- That was quick! Thanks - Pointillist (talk) 00:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
I was just realizing since you were involved in the SAS (software) page, I should have let you know that I've moved on to the SAS Institute page. Unlike Monster (company), Publishers Clearing House and others I've brought up to GA in a COI capacity where they have controversial reputations, this one is more along the lines of Noodles & Company - their primary claim to notability is as a good employer and corporate citizen. I expect the neutrality of both to be contested repeatedly. As such, these types of articles would be a good starting point for me to move up to FA articles in order to re-assure the community they are done properly. (looks like I made a mistake on the Noodles page that could be interpreted as a COI issue). CorporateM (Talk) 15:47, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Sigh... the Noodles contestation. If I were to add something like "their primary claim to notability is as a good employer and corporate citizen", cited to an independent source, few would think anything of it. You do the same thing, they get all on your back. If you need me at the SAS Institute page, just ping. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:28, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- I've gotten an editor or two to pay attention for a moment, but since there is no formalized queue like AfC and editors are hesitant to make a commitment to stick around a page they don't have a particular interest/expertise in, I never know if I need more help or if I just need to be patient and wait for an editor to get around to it. North8000 was going to help and is one of my most reliable helpers who handles my COI quite well, but has recently been site-banned as a result of an arbcom ruling. Soooo.... I don't know.
- Extremely positive or negative articles are always a magnet for speculation over whether they are representative of the source material and in most cases they are not. The other editor focused on content and expressed reasonable concerns. The number of awards in that article is a huge red flag, but they have a lot that meet these requirements. CorporateM (Talk) 18:50, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

- Yes, it is tough when sources are overwhelmingly positive. Sudirman has similar issues. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:19, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- See here. I think the decision is not in-force yet, but maybe I have something wrong - I don't know how arbcom matters work. CorporateM (Talk) 01:23, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Ah. So once that case is closed, North is out for at least a year. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:33, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- I just went over there to ping him and saw that the ArbCom ruling had passed and he is now banned for at least a year. If you do have time to collaborate on it and/or the McKinsey & Company page I would appreciate your time. Though I can also bug someone else if you're busy. CorporateM (Talk) 00:43, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can do later; don't be afraid to ping me on the talk page. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:54, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Post-GAR retaliation by User:Adam Cuerden: assault by proxy?
Mr. Crisco - Why is Cuerden persisting is making contact with my work in the aftermath of this conflict?
No doubt you're aware that Cuerden to stalking my talk posts and articles, resorting to "accidental" deletions and personal attacks. As an active administrator, is it your practice to monitor this activity without intervening to suppress it? Or is this simply regarded as "36 is getting his due"?
Cuerden needs to disengage and cool off. Kindly see to it that he does. 36hourblock (talk) 18:09, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Every single post you've made, 36, in the last two days or so has been attacking me for a markup typo. I will be reviewing everything you write for quite some time. I looked at an article in the hopes that a simpler subject would allow your research to shine through and not be bogged down, in the hopes of being able to offer a n olive branch. I found some minor issues, and began repairing them. I don't think I shall be continuing such; I also doubt you'll be getting any GAs, if you spend all your time attacking those who try and help. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:13, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello Cris,
Can you please make [[18]] as the POTD for 10th May. His birthday on that day and I would love to suggest it.
Bellus Delphina talk 18:04, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Two things: his birthday is not cited, and 10 May is already scheduled. What if I were to schedule it for next year? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:49, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Sure. Please make it for the next year. I have one more suggestion, please see this [[19]], her birthday is on November 24, I hope this will be possible in this year.

Are external links allowed in the article body?
Crisco, I was looking at DeCSS haiku while considering promoting Template:Did you know nominations/DeCSS haiku, and realized that the end of the second History and significance paragraph has two external links in parentheses.
I don't want to promote it if that isn't allowed, and I suspect it isn't. If not, might the two links be usable in Notes instead, or a single note, giving the two external links for these?
Please let me know. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:27, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Per WP:ELPOINTS: "External links should not normally be used in the body of an article.[1] Instead, include appropriate external links in an "External links" section at the end of the article, and in the appropriate location within an infobox, if applicable." -- Ohc ¡digame! 06:15, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- OhC got it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:38, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks to you both. As it turns out, right after I posted here, the nom ran into another issue, so I posted there as something else that might be wrong, and it was dealt with. Whenever a rule or guideline says "should not normally", I do wonder about exceptions, but this didn't seem to be an exceptional circumstance. BlueMoonset (talk) 07:06, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Weirds
-
This one is just nice
- I believe Commons has a tool for that, which is a lot easier than downloading and rotating on your own. That being said, I'm tagging them for rotation. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:01, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

DYK when nominator is in hospital?
Crisco, I pinged Ethically Yours' talk page yesterday in User talk:Ethically Yours#DYK nomination of Byculla to Bangkok, and got a response from his brother saying that EY was in the hospital. I'd already mentioned on the nom page that I was going to allow another week; how much longer do you think I should give, or should this be very open ended? (The nomination was originally posted on March 27.) I do want to mention something on the nomination template so no one else closes it prematurely. Thanks for any advice you can give. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:09, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Anybody willing to adopt it? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:52, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Rosa 'Banksiae Lutea'
This is a Rosa 'Banksiae Lutea', or I eat my hat. File description and name is wrong. Will you please modify it so it is OK? it is a rather good picture too. No way a rosa canina. Hafspajen (talk) 01:46, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
Sminthopsis84 and PaleCloudedWhite, can't we be pretty sure that this is a 'Banksiae Lutea'? This is a picture that was uploaded by someone that did't know what it was. It looks like a 'Banksiae Lutea', and there are not many roses with this style, small clusters of flowers, pale yellow with this pointed petal-style. Phyllis Bide maybe, but it is not Phyllis Bide. Hafspajen (talk) 18:13, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
I've never grown R. banksiae 'Lutea', so can't comment with any authority. I agree the pic looks like it though, if a little on the pale side compared to other pictures on the web. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 01:08, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, it may look a little bit pale, Paley, but... how many other roses can you mix this up? ain't many to chose from. Practically no other roses look exactly like this. Hafspajen (talk) 01:10, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Not many, no, though there is 'Purezza'. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 01:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes the form is there. But not the petals, the petals are pointed. This one looks a little bit, but is not so many petals. Davis austin Roses, Phyllis Bide. Hafspajen (talk) 01:37, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, it does look like R. banksiae, but not I think like f. lutea, though it is in that category on Commons now. The "white" one I'm most familiar with is very much this yellow when the flowers are young and one looks closely. It's a pity the photographer didn't leave us a comment about the scent, or a leaf in the image. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 11:00, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- I am jealous of all of you. I can't even identify simple flowers like these...

looks like a Portulaca of some kind, a grandiflora?
-
Some Fabaceae.
- Oh well. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:18, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Don't be jealous, it took 5 years of my life to became a landscape architect when from the begining I wanted to be an artist, and went to artists school and that took a lot of time too. Kind of the wrong decision, but like it now. Do you wan't them identified? I am not sure I can make it, I am better at the Northern hemisphere flowers. Hafspajen (talk) 13:00, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- If any of the people here want to have a shot, sure. These were all taken in fairly public places, so I wouldn't expect any really big surprises. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:23, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- It helps a lot to know where a photo was taken, how big the item is, and any other photos of the same plant. Some garden plants are just about impossible. 1: yep, could be garden portulaca, P. grandiflora, 2: periwinkle, perhaps Catharanthus roseus 3: hmm, doesn't look quite like Lotus corniculatus, but perhaps a slightly flattened flower or a related species 4: Bad Hair Day for a goatsbeard? 5: pink pussy toes? Most botanists I know refuse to have anything to do with garden plants or weeds because the whole assemblage of those plus native plants is just too much to handle (I'm so lazy that I refuse to learn all the native plants in the two floras that I ought to know, and try to learn a few of the common weeds instead). Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:28, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- These were all taken in Indonesia (names of cities/villages are in the titles), though I didn't measure any of them... none of them were more than 5 or 6 cm, though. I may have other pictures of some of these, but not on Commons. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:39, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, well forget my guesses for the last three, then! Sminthopsis84 (talk) 16:22, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Vinca major var alba - if periwinkle, it is a little plant

Vinca minor - periwinkle,

Jasmine, that will be bigger, a bush
- How about a kind of Jasmin for nr "2". Was it a bush or a climbing plant?

- I think the leaf is wrong for a jasmine. Vinca major is close, but again I think the leaf is a bit wrong. The plant in the photo looks familiar; I don't know how to describe the look of the leaf, "a bit squishy"? C. roseus has the more obvious midvein that this picture shows, and variable leaf-roundness, so these relatively narrow leaves would fit, I think. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 21:34, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- I think I have seen examples of C. roseus around here, so it's possible. All of these were growing out of the ground, some in bushes. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:00, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Photo from FDR Library
We have one photo File:Red Skelton birthday.jpg of an FDR Birthday Ball (an identical one in gif format) at Commons. It's not very good quality and that's the way it came from the FDR Library site. Did some digging and found a better photo that's of better quality here. This is the page it's on. FDR Library info says "Unless copyright information is stated in the image caption, all of the digitized material available online from the FDR Library Archives belongs in the public domain. This means that, to the best of our knowledge, the materials may be freely used by the online researcher, teacher, or student." This one has no wire service info, so it should be PD--or so I think, do you? :-) Thanks, We hope (talk) 17:45, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Seeking advice
May I ask your advice about a picture? You may perhaps recall that you and Loeba gave me enormous help with the images for John Gielgud, particularly in regard to US publicity images of the 1940s and 50s. Well, I have found on ebay here an image of Sir Thomas Beecham that has a date stamp on the back (1948) and is from a New York photographer. It would fill a real gap in his article, which lacks a picture of him in the last four decades of his life. This one would need a lot of cleaning up, but first I'd be grateful for your advice on how to establish that it is in the public domain in the US. If it is, I can load it and ask the graphics lab (or, dare I say it, you?) to clean it up, but I'm not certain how to check if the copyright was ever renewed. – Tim riley (talk) 09:22, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Well, Tim, I don't see a copyright notice, so I don't think "renewal" has anything to do with it. If there was no copyright notice and first publication was in the US before 1973, it's PD. Where was this taken? Regarding renewal, looks reasonably quick. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:36, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for that. Taken in Brooklyn, presumably, as he was rehearsing the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra. I've uploaded and applied to the image lab. I'm so grateful for your help with this. Tim riley (talk) 10:56, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Seeking advice
Good evening (HKT). I've attempted to translate the article The Jakarta Post, but someone point out that the translation is very eerie and inappropriate. Let's not talk about the translation first. One of his argument is that in the original article, it is said that when the Post was founded, staffs need to use a pica pole as the straightedge. He argues that in this situation, a straightedge means a tool with an edge free from curves with no equally spaced markings along its length, making the sentence irrational. I don't agree with his saying, thus not changing the sentence. He cited it as a reason to oppose the candidacy for its Chinese equivalent as a good article. Is "straightedge" in this article really means like what he said, or just straightedge means a tool with an edge free from curves, no whether it has equally spaced markings or not? Hope you can help with that. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by that.--Spring Roll Conan ( Talk · Contributions ) 14:45, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

- Hey, so we're exactly 12 hours apart. Yes, there are limits, but they should have finished much earlier. One student came up to me to ask what I meant with a question about Oedipus and Othello--"what part does free will play in them?" Well, I can't really explain that much more, can I. This was not one of my Italian students. Oh, and I chased one of em down the stairs after she handed in her term paper a week late, to tell her that I had already graded that paper a decade ago: here it is. Drmies (talk) 15:49, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Haven't read Oedipus since high school... but I seem to remember "free will" being essentially non-existent in the Greeks' understanding of prophecy and life (even for the gods...). Lo Nuestro Award for Pop Album of the Year
Hello Crisco1492! On February 2014, you archived Lo Nuestro Award for Pop Album of the Year as failed. However for reasons unknown, the FLC never closed properly. As a result, Javier and I never knew that it was removed from the FLC list and since then, it got more comments and supports afterwards. The Rambling Man notified us that it was removed from the list and suggested to contact one of the delegates. In regards, Erick (talk) 21:24, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
I thought I'd take this to FAC. Shouldn't take long since it's substantially written anyway and there is even less known than for Zapata Rail. I'd like to get a map more accurate than the whole of Halmahera. Places mentioned in my source include Ake Tajawe, Kao, Lalobata and Ako Jilolo. Can you cast any light on where any of these are on the island? Thanks Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:56, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- The Moluccas aren't quite my forte... I'll probably have to find a paper atlas. That shouldn't be too difficult, but it may take a few days. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:59, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

- Oh, no trouble at all. I've been meaning to buy one for the Mrs (she often sends orders to areas which she doesn't recognize, so a reference would help). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:12, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Well, Jimfbleak, here's what I've got:
- Ake Tajawe - I have a series of rivers named "Ake X" from 0.3 degrees south through 0.7 degrees south, suggesting that "Ake" is a local name for river; several others further north, near Kao and Lolobata, are also called Ake. I can't find Ake Tajawe though. This suggests it's near Lolobata (see below).
- Kao - Kao city is at 1.15 N, 127.8 E (give or take). There is a river called "Kau" (pronounced the same) that runs through the area.
- Lalobata - I have a village named "Lolobata" at about 1.3 N * 128.1 E
- Ako Jilolo - I have a "Jailolo Bay" at 1.1 N, 127.4 E
- Based on this (admittedly imperfect) search, I'd say the bird is found in the middle portion of the island, around Kau Bay (the big one which almost splits the island in two). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:31, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- This details some information on a proposed national park including Lolobata, supporting the possibility that it might be your Lalobata. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:43, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- Great, thank you. I've copied the data above off-line now. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:53, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Does this remind you of anything?
Crisco, there are some crime-related DYKs by OccultZone lately, most of which started out with very small articles (below DYK minimum) that were made larger once a review pointed out the issue. This reminds me of a similar spate by another user, perhaps about a year ago (though I can't find any of them; do you remember the topics?). I have no idea whether there is any similarity, but I just recall broad topics with very limited coverage.
The DYK noms include Template:Did you know nominations/Kidnapping in the United Kingdom, which has just been given an AGF approval, Template:Did you know nominations/Incidents of Necrophilia, Template:Did you know nominations/Child sexual abuse in Australia, Template:Did you know nominations/Kidnapping in the United States, and Template:Did you know nominations/Kidnapping in China. Is this anything to be concerned about, or are the articles okay for DYK?

Crisco, I was wondering whether you could take a look at this one and see whether it's ready for approval. I had previously found some issues with it that The C of E says are fixed, but looking at the template again just now I realize that I'm not sure what the basis for the original approval was, and that means it should get a more in depth examination than I can handle just now. Advice on avoiding an edit war
Crisco, there's a bit of an issue on the Back-up Plan and Old Dog New Tricks articles. Both are Glee episodes, and I've nominated both for DYK; the former just got off the main page, and the latter has just been promoted there.
The issue is with the episode and article titles. The naming has been inconsistent coming from "official" sources: the Fox press releases and publicity photo pages on foxflash.com used "Back-Up Plan" and "Old Dog New Tricks", so that's what I went with when I created the articles. (Note that I lowercased "up" because of MOS capitalization guidelines.) I also explained my reasoning at the time on both article's talk pages.
Some sources, including Amazon and the EP released with the episode's music, have included the article and a comma respectively—"The Back-Up Plan" and "Old Dog, New Tricks". Others, including the viewable episode on Hulu (Fox is a part owner) use neither. I think both versions are certainly possible, but haven't seen what I consider to be a definitive game-changer yet. Artmanha, another user, believes he has, and he has been changing the names and then posting his reasoning, which I haven't found convincing. I have, however, tried to engage him (much like BRD suggests), but he changes and explains, rather than explains and tries to come to a consensus.
He moved "Back-up Plan" to "The Back-Up Plan (Glee)" today while the article was on the main page as the former; I moved it back, explained that I thought it was inappropriate but in any event "Up" should be "up", and that we should discuss it on the article talk page and wait to move until consensus is achieved. He moved it again (and posted to the Talk page), though fortunately not until six minutes before it left the main page; it again uses the MOS-inappropriate "Up". I'd like to avoid any name changes to "Old Dog New Tricks" while the article's on the DYK section of the main page (another 11 hours), though it's less critical because the article name isn't directly stated in the hook.
This is my first disagreement verging on an edit war. I don't want to get even close to 3RR, so I was wondering what I should do at this point. Since you're uninvolved (and probably uninterested in Glee), I thought I'd ask your opinion of this state of affairs. Thank you very much; I appreciate your time. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:22, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'd just try and talk about it on the talk page (and make sure to link to the MOS which supports "up" being miniscule). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:26, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- So be the first to talk without reverting? I can try that. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:43, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- Y'know, I'm damned if I can find that bit of MOS, though I was sure I'd run into it before, and when I look at outside authorities like The Chicago Manual of Style, I can't find it there, either. I also can't find any example here that supports it, and also could have sworn I'd run into this situation previously with words that are correct both hyphenated and closed (like "back-up" and "backup"). The odd thing is that the 2010 movie, "The Back-up Plan", uses lowercase for its publicity poster, and that may be where the lowercase "up" came from. So I may not be correct that "up" ought to be lowercase. You wouldn't happen to know for sure? BlueMoonset (talk) 15:49, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Try MOS:CT: "In hyphenated terms, capitalize each part according to the applicable rule": I think "up" should fall into the lower case categroy on that basis, for what it's worth. Hope that helps! - SchroCat (talk) 16:09, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- That raises the question of "Up" being used as a direction, or as something else. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:59, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Crisco, I've never seen this before: a hook being approved based on a picture. I don't see any documentation that this is a scissors-truss roof, and the creator is maintaining that since the picture is of one—and we have to take his word for it, since there's no written documentation cited anywhere—that's all the citation needed. (Funnily enough, it's called a "cross truss" in the picture description.)
Is this true? I didn't want to promote it, but (if true) nor did I want to unapprove it. It's clear that the author took a great many pictures of this church, but that makes the descriptions attached to them as sourced as the picture in question: the creator's knowledge. That doesn't strike me as Wikipedia's idea of a reliable, independent source. Thoughts? BlueMoonset (talk) 16:06, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- Written documentation only, considering what happened the last time we played with the roofs. (I forget exactly which hook it was). Interpreting an image is OR. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:13, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Picture of the Day
Hi Crisco, I've got Matanaka Farm on my watchlist, and have thus seen that you are involved in picture of the day. I do a lot of uploading to Commons and I occasionally come across quite stunning photos. If you are interested, I can draw your attention to those if you wish. I don't really want to learn what's involved with featured pictures, and I am certainly not a brilliant photographer by any description. Hence my idea of a stunning photo may be a long way off from true FP candidates. But for what it's worth, the following photos have made an impression on me and if you think they are any good, feel free to put them forward:
If you want me to notify you when I see something that might be suitable, please let me know. Schwede66 03:13, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- If you want to drop off a couple, that would be great. The ones you've left here, however, have a couple of issues: several are highly skewed in regards to perspective, and the press building looks like poorly done HDR. The best for the English Wikipedia FP process is File:The old Civic Chambers.jpg, but it has the issue of cars blocking the view. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:11, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
See, that's how little I know of good photography. Anyway, I remembered and eventually found another photo that I quite fancied:
Schwede66 05:09, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Not how little you know of good photography (the view of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is certainly visually impressive) but what is expected of English Wikipedia's featured pictures. If you want, have a browse through Wikipedia:Featured_pictures/Places/Architecture to see what usually gets through. As for the geckos: sadly whoever took the photograph had too narrow focus. Check out the snout of the rear gecko: it goes from out of focus to in focus to out of focus. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:16, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey, Chris! Would you consider my summary of D. Djajakusuma accurate? If not, could you make whatever tweaks you feel would improve it? I'm not quite sure I summarised the most notable points. Adam Cuerden (talk) 23:40, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Photo question
Here's a photo of Red Skelton from Radio Mirror in 1948. One of his early "hobby" paintings is shown above. The magazine is PD-copyright not renewed. Do you think we could use this to illustrate the section on Skelton and his artwork--concern for me is de minimis, though I don't think he copyrighted his earlier paintings. Can look, though. :} Thanks, We hope (talk) 16:15, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'd get it just for the colour . You could probably claim de minimis on the painting, but to be safe I'd mark that explicitly on the file talk page. Do you know how to get the full size scan of the image? If not I can upload it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:33, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- Also, if you're 100% sure this was not renewed, I'll probably upload the rest of the images on Commons. Fanny Brice et al.... useful. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:35, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- Just rolled through UPenn periodicals for 1975 and 1976--Macfadden didn't renew Radio Mirror. Right now, there's a link broken between the Internet Archive and U Wisconsin's Lantern, which normally serves larger PDF pages. The magazines are scans from the LOC made available via internet archive. I use these a lot for various performers and also for article refs. ;} Even though both UWisconsin and IA claim all online is PD, I always check it at either UPenn or copyright.gov to be sure. Haven't found any renewals from any of the material from here I've used. We hope (talk) 16:59, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- Internet archive actually offers higher-resolution images as well, if you know where to look. Upload what you can get, and I'll upload the higher resolution image. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:42, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Went back to UPenn to look at copyrights filed for art work for the years 1943 (when Skelton said he began actively painting as a hobby) through 1948 (magazine is from 1948). The only thing pertaining to Red Skelton is a 1947 illustration done by artist Sam Berman for NBC Radio. NBC hired Berman to create illustrations for all of the radio shows on the network at the time. File:Como stafford supper club 1947.jpg This is one of them. NBC renewed some but not all of the illustrations; the Como/Stafford "Supper Club" wasn't renewed. So we are looking at a PD Skelton original. :) We hope (talk) 17:33, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

- We hope, SchroCat, I just realized this: you can actually just download the scan data through a torrent. Click on All Files, Torrent, and in your torrent program select the one which ends as jp2 (it should be the largest). That gets you all of the original scans. If you just want the one file, you can use the method I explained before. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:57, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- lol - I have no idea what most of that means! I'm not sure I have a torrent programme... (although I may have, without knowing exactly what it is!) (We hope, I've just managed to get to PR with my current piece (Royal baccarat scandal), so I'll be free to start going over Skelton from tomorrow onwards. The very quick skim I had a week or so ago showed no real problems: it's a good-looking article). Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 13:13, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Right right. I doubt you'd use this much except for PD magazines or other things with many illustrations. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:16, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Got here a bit late today-trying to get some RL stuff done while there's still some weekend to do it in. (And to let the family and friends see my face without a computer screen glow on it from time to time.) Didn't put a torrent program in; many large ISPs here now have "caps" or limits on the amount of data you can use before paying extra for it. Don't think mine will start doing this, but who knows? SchroCat, thanks for your help on Skelton! He's an interesting fellow; Skelton once said Gene Fowler would write his biography, but after Fowler died in 1960, Skelton apparently wasn't interested in turning the project over to someone else. If I make it though Skelton, eventually I'd like to go further with Perry Como and do something about Ernie Kovacs. We hope (talk) 20:42, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Copyright question...
Hi Crisco- I've stumbled upon a grouping of American Bank Note Company portrait proofs of notable people from all over the world. While the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is a government agency and therefore PD, ABNCo is a different story. While they enjoyed long contracts with the US government to produce currency, they were not a government agency and they designed and engraved currency for a significant number of foreign countries. The portraits are in a scrap book assembled by an ABNCo engraver and it is, for what it's worth, likely 70+ years old (if not more). Some of the images have the name of the engraver written in the book, most of them have a very fine and small engraved copyright symbol, but no date... Any thoughts?--Godot13 (talk) 00:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Would these count as published works? Because I believe that any American, published work with a malformed copyright from before a certain date counts as copyright ineligible. Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:53, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Can you determine when these were done? While looking up renewals of old photos at UPenn, I've come across the company's renewals under artwork many times. Here's what they renewed from 1931 in the first half of 1958. If you can put a date on these, you can then look at UPenn to see if the engraving was renewed or not. We hope (talk) 01:23, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- The main question is: did this have wide distribution or note? If this was distributed somewhat widely (say, 50 copies or something), then we could look into renewal. If it wasn't considered published in the US, then renewals and copyright notices are pretty much moot. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Well, regarding distribution, there are some impressions of U.S. statesmen (Lincoln, Grant) I've never seen used, they could have been trial engravings. This same impression of Pedro Álvares Cabral is among some of the others. On the other end of the distribution spectrum is the engraved logo for the American Express centurion... If the exact image was actually used on the circulating currency of a foreign country does that count toward distribution? Or is it only if the engraved portrait was distributed in the same state as in this scrapbook? And as mentioned above, this is a scrapbook, so I'm fairly certain there is no other identical copy, and it was never published.-Godot13 (talk) 02:05, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- You can cite previous publication as an indication that an image is PD, but not the whole scrapbook. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:07, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Editwarring over flatlists
Sorry to bug you, but is there something you can do about TheSickBehemoth (talk · contribs) persistently removing {{Flatlist}}s from the Megadeth article? Curly Turkey ⚞¡gobble!⚟ 04:49, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- It's not edit warring (1 edit, 1 revert), and it's not following Template:Infobox musical artist. TheSickBehemoth (talk) 04:51, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Curly Turkey, that looks absolutely terrible (check out the bullet starting a line in front of Jan Panzer). I'd definitely try and reach a consensus at WikiProject Biography or the template talk page before starting something like that.
- TheSickBehemoth: Agree that a single revert is not edit warring per our policy (it calls for repeated reverts to be edit warring). However, not following Template:Infobox musical artist is not breaking policy either, as template documentation is just that: documentation. We can include or exclude fields, or approach them as we want. In this case, however, I think the standard still looks better. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:35, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Flatlists are for accessibility, not aesthetic, purposes, creating a semantic list—if it displays in an unaesthetic way on your browser, that's unfortunate (it displays fine on mine, not that that's the point). I'll take this to TheSickBehemoth's talk page. Curly Turkey ⚞¡gobble!⚟ 06:22, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

- It might indeed. I'll ask the article's authors what they prefer. Curly Turkey ⚞¡gobble!⚟ 07:31, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. This is a message for CasLiber, HamiltonStone, SturmVogel and Crisco. Thanks for your help and feeback re: the Singora article. It achieved FA status on Saturday.
I got a message today saying the article will now appear on Wikipedia's home page on June 4. This surprised me. I read somewhere that it usually takes several months for featured articles to make it to the home page.
I've cleaned things up a bit. CasLiber and Crisco noted that the section about Persians in 17th century Siam looked out of place. I've deleted this paragraph.
I've also re-jigged the lead and added:
- 1. Alternative names / spellings to the Early History section.
- 2. An explanatory note re: the foundation of the city in 1605.
- 3. An explanatory note re: Sultan Sulaiman's declaration of independence in 1642.
- 4. A second paragraph to the The forts at Khao Daeng section.
If you have time to briefly glance through it again, please do. I still feel the article can be improved prior to June 4.
Thanks again for your help. I've enjoyed doing this. I finished Oxford University almost exactly 30 years ago, so this has been an opportunity to cast aside some of the rust and dust that's built up over the years. Perhaps I'm not as good as I was, but I think I'm still just about okay!
I'll login from time to time. If you'd like a review, do please feel free to let me know.

Similar DYK issue?
Crisco, I just noticed that you reviewed the Template:Did you know nominations/Kidnapping in the United States article, and flunked it for a variety of reasons, one of which was the Notable cases section. The creator has an article on Child sexual abuse in Australia currently in Queue 4 and due to hit the main page in four hours, and it has a "Notable offenders" section—a list rather than a table, and each offender is wikilinked to an article. If this is problematic, it will require an admin, so I thought you'd want to check to make sure this article doesn't have similar issues to the one you reviewed. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:55, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- It looks a bit more reasonable than the one I refused, since referencing is considerably stronger. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:44, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Good to know, and glad you had a look at it before it went to the main page. Again, thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:04, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Fram has weighed in; there's a post now on WT:DYK. There's also a new approval of another nom by this author, Template:Did you know nominations/Kidnapping in China, which seems to have many of the faults you raised when giving the orange X to Template:Did you know nominations/Kidnapping in the United States. I think I'm going to put a hold on the China article so it doesn't get promoted until it can be given a closer look. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:52, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- Agree. X China for now. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:13, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

- @Amandajm: AGF is the full description for Assuming Good Faith. - SchroCat (talk) 12:24, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Right. And, in a DYK sense, it means "I am unable to check this, but I trust the nominator has not done anything against policy". It's standard for articles with offline and/or foreign language sources, as in many cases few editors would actually have access to said offline sources or the ability to read foreign-language ones.
- Although for some reason I can't find this in any of the guideline pages related to DYK... sigh, those pages have been reshuffled so much... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:31, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

First GAR
Hi Crisco- Trying to learn different skills here at Wikipedia... Did my first GAR for King Alfred's Tower. I worry it is not detailed enough (as does the nominator). If you have a moment (and the article itself is not long) could you let me know the content areas which need to be expanded in my review. Your tutelage is appreciated...--Godot13 (talk) 01:48, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- First question: are there more sources? Length does not necessarily equate depth. Gagak Item is barely longer than the tower article and it's featured. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:51, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey, now. I found a picture of an American Cocker Spaniel, a dog that we need pictures of, in the co,mmons Category:Low quality dog pictures, and I figured we could do something with it if we are cropping it, not that bad.
Now the file is deleted and Phil got a template of a common admin, saying she violated copyright? Why? It looked like the persons own dog, or? She have just been accused of violating copyright by an admin over on Commons! when she only cropped it. I wan't that dog back, if possible.
Hafspajen (talk) 16:25, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Is there a deletion request? Or did Phil forget to add the original image as the source? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:27, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- I cropped it using the crop tool and then uploaded it as a new file, not over writing the original as the instructions tell you. I have asked the Commons Admin to rev/del it from my talk page as he/she appears to be admitting they hadn't looked at the original file. Do you think he/she will? SagaciousPhil - Chat 16:33, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
And I wan't that dog back, if possible. This is not fair to Phil. And they deleted the original file too, what was wrong with that one? We need that picture. Hafspajen (talk) 16:37, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- What's the link to the original file? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:44, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
File:This is my male parti color American cocker I want to breed 2014-03-09 16-16.jpg
- But, as you will notice, the original file is no good, needs cropping away the gras and stuff in front, top and to the left. Are we getting in trouble, or it again? (If the file can be saved...) Hafspajen (talk) 16:51, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- It would have been File:This is my male parti color American cocker I want to breed 2014-03-09 16-16.jpg - because I just cropped it, the same name was used but with (cropped) added. The link Lupo gave for it being a violation of was this one where a user with the same name as the commons uploader was looking for a mate for their dog, so it was probably their own picture! SagaciousPhil - Chat 16:53, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- And it looks like they are refusing to rev/del it [24] - it was their error. SagaciousPhil - Chat 17:00, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- How silly. Extremely silly, we just want to make use of a picture that it is to no use, that is most probably uploaded by the owner, and everything is deleted, original and the cropped and Phil gets kicked in the but, for no reason at all. Hope somebody appologized for her, at least. Hafspajen (talk) 17:02, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- No, she got cold-shouldered, kind off. Hafspajen (talk) 22:42, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Was this REALLY a copright issue? [25] Hafspajen (talk) 23:51, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- That's... odd. I don't have access to the file (not a Commons admin) but it looks like it was uploaded in the same time frame as the hoobly image and, barring proof that these are the same people, the precautionary principle recommends deletion. No comment on the bit about rev deleting the template. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:31, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hm, Phil said that it could be the same person. As she said: this one where a user with the same name as the commons uploader was looking for a mate for their dog, so it was probably their own picture. But I guess it is gone now. Hafspajen (talk) 01:40, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- It could be, but previous publication requires an explicit release. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:42, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Username on that webbsite was monkeyward, same as the uploader here. But I don't know where to find him/her. Oh, well, bad luck. Hafspajen (talk) 01:44, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'll put it this way; I could see someone with really good images on Flickr, register a Commons account using the same name, and upload his/her images as my own. That's probably not what happened here, but that's why Commons would need verification. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:47, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes. and it was a bad picture. Need cropping. Hafspajen (talk) 02:11, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

- Crisco 1492, Phil has not been online since this common - misstake. I am nervous. Definitly not like her. Hafspajen (talk) 09:58, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

- She is not alright. She is pissed and/or hurt. And who is going to make all that work she use to do, on the dog task ? I was not the one looking after recent changes on dog articles, it was her. I can already see some topics I would need her advice. Have you seen her talk on commons? Hafspajen (talk) 10:12, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- I was thinking of non-Wikimedia reasons for her not to be online, and very few of them are good... that's what I was referring to. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:18, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

you may nominate them... go ahead.

I want Phil back!

If not I am going to feel like this.
Hafspajen (talk) 02:34, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Wow, they are nice images! Did you really mean to say I was drunk, Hafs? That's what 'pissed' means in the UK! It made me laugh anyway! SagaciousPhil - Chat 05:10, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Well, being pissed and having been hurt are not always separate, you know. ;) Glad to see you hanging around here (and yes, the images are great). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:14, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- No, really, Phil. Well, as I said, I have learned English by hearing, as a child, from my relatives in USA. In the summers. Vacations. So... [26], actually never new that it meant alt1. Crisco, yes. And Crisco, and talk page stalkers, feel free to nominate Any picture I am posting at Crisco's, that is exactly the point with it, and I don't own them. Hafspajen (talk) 10:49, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- And your English is far superior to any attempts I could make at Swedish or Indonesian! We have some very quaint colloquialisms here - look at some of the synonyms [27]. Anyway, the red mist has eventually cleared! SagaciousPhil - Chat 11:20, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, indeed. (US, Canada, vulgar, colloquial) Annoyed, angry. Hafspajen (talk) 11:29, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Pissed as a fart? Really? Sounds like a serious medical condition... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:32, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Harta Berdarah
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Harta Berdarah you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Zanimum -- Zanimum (talk) 21:01, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Soeara Berbisa DYK
Crisco, I just saw this DYK of yours in Prep 1's quirky spot, and was curious enough about the hook to take a look at the article. The article has "civilised" in quotes, but the hook did not, so I added quotes around the word in the hook. Please let me know if this is a problem. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 13:24, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- I didn't think the quotes were necessary for a single word in that context (note that the main article has civilised in scare quotes and the rest paraphrased). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:28, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- I hadn't thought of those as scare quotes, but as precision, showing that this was the actual word used ("beschaafd"). BlueMoonset (talk) 21:35, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Alright. Anyways, the quotes are fine in the hook. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:16, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
DYK for Soeara Berbisa
On 22 May 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Soeara Berbisa, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Union Films' 1941 film Soeara Berbisa was advertised as "civilised" enough for European audiences? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Soeara Berbisa. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
Materialscientist (talk) 00:48, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
Crisco, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could take a look at this one. While I may think I was justified in what I did, I could be very wrong (or enough wrong), and I'd prefer that it was given a second look by an experienced DYK reviewer who's also an admin. I can't remember whether this is someone you have issues with; if so, then by all means feel free to decline, or give me your thoughts here rather than there. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:21, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. BTW, we're overdue for a main page swap-out with DYK. I've just posted to the DYK talk page, but if no one else has already seen it, do you think you might be able to promote? Much appreciated. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:39, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Will try, assuming Chrome doesn't freeze up on me (I'm running PTGui right now, which is very memory intensive) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:51, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Or not. Materialscientist got it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:52, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
Lately at DYK
Crisco, it would appear I've dissed a DYK Patriarch (unknowingly, but the fact remains), and compounded the fact by marking the submission for closure because no QPQ is forthcoming. I thought I'd give someone who's been around longer than I have, and might actually know this guy, a chance to donate a QPQ or something, so if you want to (or to contact someone who might), please feel free: Template:Did you know nominations/Pastila.
I'm not sure what should/can be done about Template:Did you know nominations/Leftist errors—the neutrality warnings on the review template are dire and seemed to have merit behind them when I checked a while ago, but I couldn't figure out what to do (and have no interest in reviewing the nomination), so I'm hoping you can do something to break the logjam or wrap it up.
I noticed you were one of the people (including myself) who were pinged by Drmies to close down the Poklonskaya nomination. This needs an admin at the least, if definitive action is going to be taken, given the experience level of the people participating and expressing strong opinions on its suitability for the main page. I'm assuming you're as reluctant as I am to get involved... BlueMoonset (talk) 23:04, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- There is no patriarch, although I think we can arrange for something. I never used that article you asked me to help finish reviewing last week (though I don't remember which). I'll take a look at the leftist page. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:20, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- There's another nom by the same person as the Leftist errors article, Template:Did you know nominations/Uprising in Montenegro, which also ran into neutrality problems during the initial review, and has just been reviewed again, suggesting that it should be allowed to run. Perhaps having two data points will help in figuring out what to do. BlueMoonset (talk) 12:50, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- It looks like the issues on the Montenegro DYK have been settled—I may need to put another "again" icon for the review to finally get its tick, though—which still leaves Leftist errors; the Pastila was formally rejected sometime in the past 24 hours. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:44, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- I think Leftist should be failed. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:16, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

- First and foremost, that's the wrong page. Second, you didn't add a colon in front of the "file" in the title, giving you that huge image. The smaller image above it was the file coming through from Commons, and the smaller one below it was your actual nomination. I'm curious how you managed this, to be honest. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:10, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Now they want to delete this one. File:Jan Brueghel de Oude en Peter Paul Rubens - Het aards paradijs met de zondeval van Adam en Eva.jpg, the one I nominated... Is it because I made a mess of it? Hafspajen (talk) 16:09, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- No, just because the page should not exist on the English Wikipedia yet (it is enough for it to be on Commons). If the image passes, the page can be remade. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:15, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Passes what? I think that is a good image, I don't want that deleted. Hafspajen (talk) 16:17, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Just the local description page will be deleted, which is empty anyway. The file will remain on Commons. "Passes" in this context means, that the community decides the images is at FP level, and it's promoted. Armbrust The Homunculus 16:22, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Was it that I put the file name into the list box that made it all empty? Hafspajen (talk) 16:24, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, the name of the nomination should be added in the box after "Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/" and it shouldn't replace it. Armbrust The Homunculus 16:26, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- But that image was used in several articles, why isn't it HERE, whaterer >HERE means. It looked quite here to me. Hafspajen (talk) 16:29, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
[28] this is good picture and how am I going to nominate it now. Hafspajen (talk) 16:30, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- The image appears at WP:FPC and on its nomination (Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/The garden of Eden with the fall of man). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:31, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Is there several images or what. I don't like things i don't understand. Hafspajen (talk) 16:32, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- There's just the one image (on Commons) which is used on several pages (including your nomination). The image you nominated is the one which you linked to above; same image. We just need to keep an eye on it and see how it does at FPC. I need to hit the sack now, but I'll try and answer any further questions in the morning. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:41, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Now I hope that my last two nominations are OK. Hafspajen (talk) 01:23, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Canadian Eskimo Dog
Hi Crisco, would you mind having a very quick look at Canadian Eskimo Dog, please? I'm a little worried about sourcing and possible BLP concerns with the Controversies section. Two of the paragraphs of the Brian Ledoon section are unsourced - other refs used there seem to be a blog, weirdanswers.com, imdb, urbanlegends and costabotes is a circular ref back to weirdanswers. I also think PETA would have to be used with caution as it is an animal rights activist organisation? Or are my concerns unfounded? SagaciousPhil - Chat 08:30, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Opinion on pictures and FPC
I have been fascinated by the FPC process for a while and after the excavation at the Atari landfill, Commons attained a couple of files on the event. I'm wondering if any of them have a chance of surviving a round at the process. More so this one. GamerPro64 02:12, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- We can work with a couple of these. I could edit File:Atari E.T. Dig- Alamogordo, New Mexico (14039327125).jpg to close-to FPC quality; what time was it taken, though? That's awfully dark for a desert. File:Atari E.T. Dig- Alamogordo, New Mexico (14036097792).jpg has less of a chance, I think, in part owing to the prominent copyrighted covers. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:18, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure when the first photo was taken. It says it was taken in November and it appears that there was an overcast during the time it was taken. Also, you have a point about the second photo. Forgot all about the issue of copyright thanks in part to copyright. Just thought it was a pretty cool shot. GamerPro64 02:48, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- It also says the time was a little past midnight. The clock on the camera is clearly wrong; that's way too far south for a midnight sun. I'll try playing with it and upload it separately. PTGui is still running, so my computer is a little slow. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:01, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- GamerPro64, I've uploaded the edit. I could probably knock down the exposure a little bit, if you think it's necessary. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:51, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- I think the exposure is all right as it is. So, when I put it up for nomination, would I have to nominate the original and the new one you cleaned up? Also, I'm reading the criteria and I'm not entirely sure about #5. If the old was replaced with the updated version, there's no need for the seven day wait period? GamerPro64 04:12, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- There shouldn't be any need. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:21, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

List of Major League Baseball players with unidentified given names
Due to the lack of input, as opposed to a flawed list, you closed Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Major League Baseball players with unidentified given names/archive1. Would you be opposed to just moving it to the top of WP:FLC instead of opening a new candidate page? Seattle (talk) 01:38, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I would be opposed. It needs to be renominated (i.e. using a new nomination) after two weeks or more. Not sooner. People might be willing to review the list if you reviewed others, so that's something you can work on. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:48, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Crisco, I'm going to be with family starting tomorrow for the long weekend, and access will likely be spotty (if I have free time at all). I'm hoping you can help me with a couple of outstanding issues that I don't think I'm going to have time to finish up on. Many thanks.
The first is Template:Did you know nominations/Djawoto. As it has sources in Indonesian, particularly one Soman was pointing me to that I was hoping to hand it off to you, since Google translate is quite rough and missing the detail I would need. The "cadre" issue has been solved by Soman changing the wording—I'd never run into the word applying to a single person, and found its use confusing—but there's an "if...then" structure to the final sentence that I'm not sure is warranted. I imagine you'll be able to tell. At any rate, I hope you don't mind my leaving the final disposition of this to you.
The other one was a call from Drmies on Template:Did you know nominations/I Got U with a query about the newest ALT hook, which I'm hoping you can take for me.
There have been a couple of nominations I'd been meaning to commend to your attention, since they've been sitting there for a while. One is an April Fools candidate, Template:Did you know nominations/Neotrogla. The other is Template:Did you know nominations/Widener Library, where a significant portion of the 5x expansion is in the Notes section, rather than the intro and body; I imagine you've dealt with these issues before. - I'll try and deal with that later today. Hope I don't forget. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:09, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
