Hi! I would just like to thank you so much for taking the time to review my Mother Gothel article.--Changedforbetter (talk) 06:02, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey Changedforbetter, it may take me a little while to get to it but I'll keep you posted on my progress. — Cirt (talk) 07:04, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Absolutely, and understood. I am aware that it may be annoying receiving these notifications, but obviously I must continue to notify page creators when nominating an article. Cheers! --Tgeairn (talk) 12:41, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
I still thank you for the notification, Tgeairn, it is most interesting reading, but please understand my level of article quality these days in pages I use for Quality improvement projects is a bit higher than it was those years ago. For example, the WP:FA quality page, Freedom for the Thought That We Hate. Thank you, — Cirt (talk) 12:45, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Once I wandered into this whole NRM world I went and "checked you out" so-to-speak. I completely agree that both your article quality and work in general here lately at EN are superb. Tgeairn (talk) 12:54, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the kind words, Tgeairn, I really appreciate that! I encourage you to read through some of my successful Quality improvement projects related to the general topic of freedom of speech. Freedom for the Thought That We Hate is a good example, and I highly recommend you read the book as well. Let me know what you think of the book. — Cirt (talk) 12:56, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
"I completely agree that both your article quality and work in general here lately at EN are superb." = nicest thing somebody's said about me on Wikipedia in a while, thanks again, — Cirt (talk) 16:40, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Some days we all need a good word! FYI, I picked up the Kindle edition of Freedom for the Thought That We Hate. I didn't get a chance to read it on the flight (work, work, work), but it's now in the queue. Tgeairn (talk) 21:08, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Please comment on this RfC

Hello Cirt, because you participated in the AfD here, you are being asked to comment on the RfC regarding that article and others.

The RfC the link is here.

The question is:

Should we keep these newly created separate country articles about the Ebola epidemic?

Your participation is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Marked to review next Katrina Kaif and Emily Ratajkowski. — Cirt (talk) 16:02, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

My apologies, Smkolins, but I didn't realize I can't do the review for Nipo T. Strongheart as it's under a WikiProject related to a new religious movement. I didn't see that earlier and just thought it was predominantly related to the subsection under which I found the nomination, which was Media and drama. Please ask for a different GA Reviewer to take over. — Cirt (talk) 20:45, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Relaxing with two baby chickens

I know you understand, Drmies. I am taking it easy, thank you. I hope you are taking it easy as well. I had a great time today hanging out with friends and doing some exercise and enjoyed the sunset. :) — Cirt (talk) 03:43, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Alabama, Cirt: we hit close to 90 degrees today. I was working on a chicken coop and had to change into shorts. We have two baby chickens and it's very relaxing to play with them. Best, Drmies (talk) 03:47, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Most interesting, Drmies, I recently had the opportunity to work on an organic farm and experienced fertilization using chicken feces, cow manure, and fish guts. Most interesting times. I'm glad you had a relaxing time today as well. I hope you're drinking enough water? — Cirt (talk) 03:51, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Well, Drmies, I hope you continue to enjoy and gain relaxation from the two baby chickens. :) — Cirt (talk) 04:10, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Arbitration case request

Hi Cirt, just letting you know you've been mentioned in this arbitration case request. Regards, Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 10:10, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you're telling me this, Callanecc, as I'm not allowed to comment there? — Cirt (talk) 11:52, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
ArbCom has held for a while that it is an allowable exception per WP:BANEX to defend yourself. Thank you, Callanecc. I've been informed by ArbCom that I'm not a party to the case so I won't defend myself at this point in time and will continue instead to focus on other, unrelated, Quality improvement projects. Hopefully that will be okay. — Cirt (talk) 12:41, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

User:Cirt/Gutting

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your user subpage at User:Cirt/Gutting may not meet Wikipedia's user page guideline because it is a clear and unambiguous violation of WP:AGF and a personal attack on contributors. If you believe that your user page does not violate our guideline, please leave a note on this page. Alternatively you may add {{Db-userreq}} to the top of the page in question and an administrator will delete it, or you can simply edit the page so that it meets Wikipedia's user page guideline. Thank you. AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:49, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

AndyTheGrump, I made very careful care not to refer to any individual users. If you have suggestions on how to improve my personal user space essay, please let me know, I'd be happy to hear any suggestions short of deletion of this user essay about deletion. Thank you, — Cirt (talk) 18:51, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
I can see no possible improvement short of deletion - it is based entirely around premises which run contrary to WP:AGF. AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:55, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
AndyTheGrump, you can't suggest even one suggestion to improve it? — Cirt (talk) 18:56, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
Not an attack. We WP:AGF as a default but if subsequent behavior indicates an intention to disrupt then we're not required to stick our heads in the sand. --NeilN talk to me 19:00, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks very much, NeilN, I agree with your comment. Also, it's kinda odd that the user above started out this templated-message with a link to the Welcoming committee and the message, "Welcome to Wikipedia", when at least I thought it was clear from my userpage that I've helped contribute to sixteen (16) Featured Articles. Just struck me as sort of strange, is all. Oh well. — Cirt (talk) 04:10, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

deletion discussion, in light of your essay

so this is a strange discussion we are having. I and Lesser have looked and there are no independent sources with which to build a Wikipedia article. Why are you not responding to that? (maybe you don't believe us, maybe you have a different idea of the kind of sources one needs.... I don't know) Your essay that is critical of "gutting" is starting to make sense now, but in a way that is troubling to me.... can you help me understand where you are coming from, and why you are not answering direct questions? Those are two "levels" of questions. I really do want to understand where you are coming from (really I do) but I am troubled that you are not answering direct questions. I am wondering if these two levels are not somehow connected. But one can never reach consensus without honest dialog, right? If you are not interested in the conversation, I would understand, but I wanted to try. Jytdog (talk) 01:09, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Jytdog, I thank you for reaching out to me, but I must admit it feels like I'm being tag-teamed and badgered at that particular AFD. — Cirt (talk) 01:11, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
i have never interacted with lesser before. we just seem to have the same perspective on this particular issue. but as you will! good luck. Jytdog (talk) 01:12, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
I responded with another comment at the AFD, diff. That may explain how I feel a little bit better. Jytdog, I also wish to impress upon you something you may not know about my past Quality improvement history, which is that I indeed have been successful on multiple occasions in bringing articles that others attempted to get deleted at AFD, to higher levels of quality including WP:GA, and in multiple cases, to WP:FA quality. Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 01:14, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
this is very upsetting. done here. Jytdog (talk) 01:16, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Jytdog, I've looked at the lack of source coverage and nominated it for consideration at WP:AFD. — Cirt (talk) 19:23, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
interesting. thanks for replying! Jytdog (talk) 19:24, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
My pleasure, Jytdog, and thanks for alerting me to this. I'm glad you find it interesting. :) — Cirt (talk) 19:25, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
i really had no idea what you would think of it, much less do. it is interesting to me. i don't know much about WP culture around article deletion/retention, and observing is a great way to learn. so thanks.Jytdog (talk) 19:28, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm glad my actions surprised you, it's nice to know I've broken the mold regarding some of your assumptions and/or preconceived notions about me, Jytdog. :) I've posted a couple new AFDs to WT:MED. Feel free to participate at those, if you wish. — Cirt (talk) 19:31, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
i had no fucking preconceptions about you. what opinion i have of you has been informed entirely by our interactions. some of which has been delightful, some of which still confuses me. this is what it means to be human.Jytdog (talk) 19:34, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
Well, Jytdog, I'm glad my later actions have broken the mold of your opinion about me from my prior actions. :) — Cirt (talk) 19:35, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

:) i really have no mold for you. one of my personal governing values is to try to be very clear about what i know and what i don't know (and to have antennae vibrating for the inevitable things i don't even know that i don't know), and act accordingly... and i barely know you. but i reckon i will get to know you! Okay, that sounds like a good approach, Jytdog, I wish you well. I think we mostly agree on the importance of science, the scientific method, and scientific skepticism. — Cirt (talk) 19:48, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
@Jytdog:FWIW, I went through all the organizations listed at Template:Animal testing end and didn't see any others worth sending to WP:AFD. — Cirt (talk) 19:57, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
I did too and thought the same. Jytdog (talk) 20:12, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

.oga vs. .ogg?

I notice when you corrected the filename for the spoken word version of Fuck, you changed the extension from .ogg to .oga. The same thing happened to File:En-us-Oligomer.oga when I requested that that be moved. Should I be saving these as .oga files? Can you point me in the direction of something as to why this is done? 0x0077BE [talk/contrib] 19:17, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Sorry about editing your comment

Cirt, sorry about editing your comment. I honestly wasn't thinking that it was a comment, but that it was a sort of sub heading to the discussion. I have never edited anyone's comment before, ever. As you noticed, I only updated that one word. Nice article by the way, and as you can see, I am all for it being on the main page. Cheers. Prhartcom (talk) 02:46, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

I see we were writing on each other's page at the same time! Ha. No, I'm NOT going to ask him if I can edit his comment; I'm dropping now. BTW, that is so great that you got permission from the publisher to use their book cover; I have never seen that before. This will really add impact when this appears on the main page. See you around. Prhartcom (talk) 02:54, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks!

I was just thinking about one article if it had never been discusses and you cleared it for me in a few minutes! What a coincidence... Regards. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 11:56, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

Re:Can we get a secondary source

Oh I'm not active again, I just pop up here and there. I had a huge 5 year run of editing and I pretty much burned myself out... That, and I had achieved most of what I'd wanted to. So I've been semi-retired and every now and then I check one the articles I helped perfect, only to be shocked and how much it's fallen.

Yes, I do have the DVD for that episode and I'm almost positive it's mentioned. I'm quite surprised that the line isn't mentioned in the article for the episode (though it could be that the line is talked about in the commentary for a different episode). I'll try to give it a listen on Tuesday. -- Scorpion0422 02:11, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

No, sorry, but it doesn't work like that. It's {{WP:BRD]] not WP:BDR. The onus is on the editor proposing the changes to make her case. It's important! I think if instead of WP:BRD we had the policy "changes are assumed to be acceptable, the onus is on the person wanting to reject the change to make his case" we would have a very different, and not necessarily better, encyclopedia.

So let's not edit war over this. That is frowned upon here. I know you will do the right thing and restore the article to its previous state and make the case for any changes on the article talk page. I've opened a thread just for this purpose. This would, I think, be the collegial thing to do, and we can discuss this like reasonable people, I hope. Herostratus (talk) 04:42, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Herostratus (talk · contribs), please don't violate site policy of WP:No original research (as you did twice now at DIFF 1 and DIFF 2), and please engage in discussion at the article's talk page. — Cirt (talk) 04:45, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Women free speech activists, possible quality improvement projects

I just want to note something here:

  1. Thanks to Lquilter, I was able to look through Category:Free speech activists.
  2. Back when the late Adrianne Wadewitz was discussing the Gender bias on Wikipedia in the media, I was inspired and decided to try to improve in quality an article that was both related to women and one of my topics of interest, freedom of speech.
  3. So thanks to Lquilter, I looked through the articles at Category:Free speech activists for one on a woman that was deceased (and would therefore be less likely to have new information develop during the course of her life, and I could find a relatively full corpus of existing sources to improve the quality of the article).
  4. I chose the article Judith Krug.
  5. This was the state of that article before my quality improvement project began.
  6. I successfully improved the article to Good Article quality, see this version as promoted to GA.

I'll try to compile here, potential quality improvement projects, that are similar to above: related to both women and freedom of speech. I'll start with other women from Category:Free speech activists. — Cirt (talk) 21:38, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Possible quality improvement projects -- related to both women and freedom of speech:

Looking for deceased women from Category:Free speech activists:
  1. Zoia Horn - note: recently deceased, dovetails with history relating to successful WP:GA quality improvement on Judith Krug, might be able to find similar research sources.
  2. Ida Craddock
  3. Lena Morrow Lewis
  4. Kitty Marion
  5. Harriet Pilpel
  6. Margaret Sanger - note: already WP:GA, maybe could take to WP:FA with others helping in collaborative project.
  7. Ayşe Nur Zarakolu
  8. Barbara Gittings
  9. Clara Breed

Cirt (talk) 21:43, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Perhaps Djembayz or Carolmooredc would like to help collaborate on one of these Quality improvement projects to improve an article from Category:Free speech activists on a deceased woman who was a supporter of freedom of speech. — Cirt (talk) 21:48, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Of the above the one most directly related to freedom of speech is Zoia Horn. I think I'll begin some preliminary research and minor improvements to that article. If Djembayz or Carolmooredc or anyone else from WP:GGTF wishes to help out in a collaborative initiative, that'd be most appreciated. :) — Cirt (talk) 21:58, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Added two to above list that could be future potential Quality improvement projects: Barbara Gittings and Clara Breed. More generally related to human rights than to freedom of speech specifically, but articles on fascinating deceased female librarians. — Cirt (talk) 19:00, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Threw File:Speech bubble - "Won't somebody please think of the children?!".svg together, if you'd still like to use it - feel free to suggest or make any changes to it :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:47, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Think of the Children

Do you still want me to listen to the commentary? The first thing I can say is that Helen Lovejoy's use of the phrase is actually overstated. Her first use of it came in season 7 in Much Apu About Nothing (and she said it a few times there), and she said it a few times after that. I can't recall precisely which other episodes it was used in, but I know Moe used it once. -- Scorpion0422 15:11, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Her first use of the phrase is "Think of the children!" and it starts at roughly 4:23 into the episode. The next use is the same thing and it's at about 5:51. At 6:21 she says "Oh won't somebody please think of the children.

Here's the transcript of the commentary for the relevant parts.

  • Matt Groening: "You guys [Josh Weinstein and Bill Oakley] loved the think of the children. That's your little catchphrase."
  • Bill Oakley: "I'd like to point out that that was only ever used in this episode. [Not true] But the - and the thing is - watching this episode, I don't think it's clear what the intent of that was. The intent is that in every political debate there's some imbecile who's going 'think of the children' even when the children have nothing to do with the debate. And it often derails the debate because you have to think of the children and really, quite frankly, a lot of things aren't intended for children or children have no bearing on."
  • That's the most relevant bit, they talk a bit more about children, this is what David Cohen says after that.
  • David X. Cohen: "Yes, I remember Bill used to give this diatribe regularly at The Simpsons about how everything in life had to be watered down for children and adults couldn't have any entertainment but of course now you have two kids that you didn't have then."
  • And there's a few more things, but nothing really useable.

She says it again in Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment. It's "Oh, won't somebody please think of the children." There are others as well, like I said, I think Moe says it at some point, possibly in Natural Born Kissers. -- Scorpion0422 15:39, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

In-text attribution

Hi Cirt,

From your user page, it appears that you have quite a bit of experience in dealing with FAs, so I am assuming you are also fairly well-versed in Wikipedia policy/guidelines. I am currently involved in a discussion on another article's talk page about the use of in-text attribution in articles, especially when the relevant author or article being attributed is cited as a source. This is quite similar to what I discussed at Talk:Cartman Gets an Anal Probe#Themes: Ethan Thompson in-text attribution. I and another editor feel that both an in-text attribution and cited source are needed in certain cases because paraphrasing is being used to express the ideas/opinions of a particular author/article regarding the subject matter; Other editors feel that a only citation is needed and that an in-text attribution is basically nothing more than "a primary source talking about itself", and thus is a violation of Wikipedia policy. Please understand that I'm not trying to canvas or forum shop. I just figured that someone with your experience in dealing with high-quality articles might be able to provide some perspective that will help us reach a consensus that is acceptable to all involved. It may actually be in this particular case that my argument is faulty, but the opposing arguments, as presented so far, do not lead me to think that is the case. Thanks in advance. - Marchjuly (talk) 05:48, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Advice

As a fellow editor accused of "bludgeoning", I empathize with your frustration. But at this point, even I think that you're going too far (and that's a bad sign).
Please try to take it down a notch (or, better yet, two or three notches). Don't use replies as launchpads for tangentially relevant side discussions. When Bencherlite shuts down a line of questioning, don't respond by pestering him about it, brainstorming alternatives, and dragging out the exchanges with further pestering. Just let it go. You're becoming your own worst enemy. —David Levy 01:20, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Understood, good points all. I'll take your advice. Thank you. — Cirt (talk) 01:21, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome message

Hello there. For the moment, in my nature of an "opportunistic" editor (that is, I generally just make edits when I see something that I believe are flagrantly "wrong" in areas where I've gathered some knowledge"), I am not particularly prone to making a formal user page. There's also the fact that there are a few areas where I disagree on the general concensus of what establishes an ideal source (to put it in casual terms: every now and then you run into extremely well-documented blogs that provide excellent insight into an underground cultural phenomenon, but a poorly researched article will be preferred just because the author got paid to write it by an "established" magazine). I understand the underlying concerns of such policies, but as an active member of certain underground communities, I do strongly feel that overly-eager "outsiders" (not to sound elitist) can easily miss certain de facto standards. Alas, I did have an epiphany that Wikipedia isn't the only place out there that provides us with space for such documentation. Perhaps as time passes there will be a reconsideration of how certain things have shifted with time and the existence of new media (such as the obsolescence of placing weight on "professional" in fields that have always been subjective by nature).

But really, hope that didn't sound too edgy. For the few complaints I have, this place is ultimately a nice community dedicated to constantly improving. Cheers. 201.190.31.192 (talk) 01:47, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

I didn't mean left vs right, I meant about having the image close to text talking about Moen. Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 21:05, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Done, hopefully better now. :) — Cirt (talk) 21:09, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Hmmm... I guess I didn't read the quote box before, but now that I have... it reads more like advertising copy than something appropriate to an encyclopedia article. If you drop it, you'll be much more free with the image placement. Either way, I'd drop the quote box. Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 22:08, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Done, removed quote box and moved image back to right align, better? — Cirt (talk) 23:47, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Looks good—I'm not much concerned about right vs left. Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 00:07, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

I was afraid something like that might have happened. Had a crash while editing just a section, just as I was about to save it. Proposed deletion of Lorna Goldberg

The article Lorna Goldberg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion of notability. Sourced only to personal and related websites.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Article request

Hey Cirt, I saw that From The Doctor to my son Thomas got promoted: nice work. Since you're good at compiling sources, I was wondering if you could help me draft an article of an episode from the show Clarence. The episode is called "Neighborhood Grill", and it gained a lot of notoriety earlier this month (both in the United States and internationally) for its portrayal of a gay couple. Currently there's only one paragraph dedicated to it in the Clarence article, but seeing what you did with Thomas I think you could expand upon it easily. I can provide a plot summary if you wish. Thanks for considerin'. 23W 03:48, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, 23W, but I'm quite busy with other Quality improvement projects and other stuff in life at the moment. But I'd strongly suggest you consider resources for additional references such as WP:The Wikipedia Library and the WP:Reference desk. Hope that's helpful, — Cirt (talk) 03:49, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

The article From The Doctor to my son Thomas you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:From The Doctor to my son Thomas for comments about the article. Well done! Saptaswa Basu

Hello, I am a publicist from Bengal. I noticed that you have discussed and deleted Saptaswa Basu (page). I was not the creator of that page but I can confirm that he is a notable personality in Bengal and in the city of Kolkata. I have given here numerous more links to published articles about his works including Zeenews, Festival focus and other links. There are many other articles existing in wikipedia with just 3 or 4 links, with incorrect info too, but they are not facing this tag of deletion. You can see pages Mir Afsar Ali, Subhasree Ganguly etc where the references are not much strong too. On the contrary, now I have added many references to SAPTASWA BASU to make it a source for reliable info. To the truest of my knowledge, the page is not any kind of advertisement or promotion. Please look into the matter. I have requested some film personalities too to join wikipedia and support the article. I am a basic writer and would really appreciate your help in improving the article. I will be adding more reference links of current works too. Please check the page and approve it. I will be waiting for your response. Here are the additional links that I have given, which may compensate for the lesser number of link present earlier.

Re:

Yes, I have already read the discussion. I have seen that there was an issue with the number of reference links or invalid links. That is why I have supplied with updated set of links which will prove that it is a reliable source of info and not any form of advert or promo. Like thousands other film personalities who work in the regional films, he may noto be notable worldwide but he is a famous personality in the state of Bengal. Kindly suggest me what should be done to restore the page. You can check all the links that I sent in the previous message. Please let me know and help me in this. Roon100 (talk) 04:38, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Reply

I have send this message to you and only to others who have participated in the discussion and deletion of the page. Firstly, I am a basic writer and I do not know the process of creating a sandbox article, that is the reason I asked for your help. And before that, I have been trying to restore the deleted page, and hence the communication with you. This is not Mr. Nolan's film that it will take repeated reading to understand. Please help me un-delete that page. Roon100 (talk) 04:53, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Message

yes I will surely do that. However, you are the one who discussed about "invalid links" and "non-notable" personality, that is the reason I needed to give you the links so that you can inform the admin who deleted the page to revert that action of deletion. That would have been the easiest way. But even when I requested repeatedly, you are in no mood to help me out, and that is the problem. So many incorrect articles exist on wiki with just 2 or 3 (invalid) references, but that page was the one which you choose to talk about. You can verify with ANYONE in Bengal or the Bengali film industry and know about his works. I won;t further message in your page but I would expect you to send a message to the admin to restore that page immediately Roon100 (talk) 05:03, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

I am not getting

I am not getting entertained messaging you. Please stop saying "read the above". Please stop it. Tell me what is the step to restore the article. Tell me that! Which will be really helpful. People are so much enthusiastic in destroying (deleting) things, and no one gives a hand of help in creating something. That should be the next Nolan film for sure. This time I AM REQUESTING YOU to stop saying the same thing and tell me how to restore the deleted page. Roon100 (talk) 05:09, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Sixth (6th) post from Roon100

Cool! Now my discussions are "violations of promise" and "lies". Where are you from, man?? You think I am a stupid liar kind of a person? I wouldn't have messaged if you had given me a good advice on "how to restore a deleted page". I am the one who has been messaging in a polite manner with requests from the very beginning and you are the one who is saying things like "IDIDNTHEARTHAT" and"FORUMSHOPPING". It's amazing that a page was deleted based on the advice of yours. I will stop messaging once you help me or advice me in "How to restore a deleted page" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roon100 (talkcontribs) 05:16, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Please support my proposal in Wikipedia talk:Community portal

Currently the portal's section "help out" lacks "Create these articles", "Represent a worldwide view" and "Add historical information", which is odd since there are still plenty of notable uncreated articles, e.g. smokers' rights and Joseph Charles Aub, plenty of articles with geographic imbalances and plenty of articles lacking sufficient historical information, and the issues are no less serious than the fact that there are still many articles requiring update. So please go to that page and support my proposal to add "Create these articles", "Represent a worldwide view" and "Add historical information" to the section "help out".--RekishiEJ (talk) 04:03, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for protecting our first amendment liberties, today and every day, precious again! - I have a FAC open, DYK. And problems with guidelines which seem to be applied too strictly: naming a composition not as the composer named it because of house rules, and degrading a composer to a secondary topic because of a singer who took (isn't that a polite word, compared to others that come to my mind) his name. Old article for deletion

Dear Cirt,

I am fairly inexperienced in making contributions to Wikipedia. I was looking at the edit history of this article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Ashe) and noticed that when the page was created it was for a different person but now it refers to a professor at University of Minnesota. I am wondering if that is an accepted policy on Wikipedia?

Hi Cirt,

Congratulations on successfully getting Fuck: Word Taboo and Protecting Our First Amendment Liberties up on the main page. I know it must have taken a lot to deal with all the opposition. Your GA nomination of Fuck It, We'll Do It Live

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Fuck It, We'll Do It Live you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Ritchie333 -- Ritchie333 (talk) 15:21, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

G'day, sir. :-) How are you doing these days? Any interesting going-ons? Nice to see old friends still active. Your GA nomination of Fuck It, We'll Do It Live

The article Fuck It, We'll Do It Live you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Fuck It, We'll Do It Live for things which need to be addressed. Crocodile Rock in Allentown

Hey Cirt, it's Hunter Kahn. I'm not sure if you remember me because I've been inactive for a while, but we've worked together on a few articles in the past, including some on South Park episodes. I happened to see that you've nominated Fuck It, We'll Do It Live for GA, and that that album is based on a performance at Crocodile Rock in Allentown. I actually live fairly close to there and could probably take a picture of the outside Crocodile Rock for you sometime, if that would help your article. Let me know if that interests you! — Hunter Kahn 16:16, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

It's not essential to have a picture of the Crocodile Rock, but it would be very helpful and welcome anyway. I'm hoping Cirt will come back from his break as there's not much required to do to pass the review. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:15, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes, Hunter Kahn, that would be helpful and most appreciated. Ritchie333, I've been quite busy and also traveling but will try to address the GA Review soon within the next couple days. — Cirt (talk) 14:02, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi

Hey, chill please? Edit warring with Bencher is not really accomplishing anything. All the same people have FA, FAC, FAR, TFA, etc. watched anyway so one of those places was probably sufficient. As an aside, we're dealing with a huge sock farm that was created to harass Neelix. He posted part of an SPI but it got closed. If you look at the guy who filed that AfD and follow it out from there, there are at least 15–20 accounts. I don't have time to deal with it right now. --Laser brain (talk) 00:19, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Laser brain, I agree that it is time for all parties involved to chill, please, as you say. Therefore, as noted, above, I'm taking some time off to exercise and get some fresh air. — Cirt (talk) 00:28, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Greetings

Hi, Cirt - I hope you will consider stopping accusing me of bad faith editing. If you have any qualms with particular edits, I'd love to hear what is wrong with them and how my approach can be improved.

I'd like to direct your attention to two quotes on user pages. The first is from Jimmy Wales:

== You can edit this page! ==
Really, you can! If you would like to, please feel free to do so. Make an edit – or even several! After all, that is what Wikipedia is all about.

And the second is from Neelix's user page:

Wikipedia is thoroughly, inherently collaborative. In the humanities division of academia, we still hold to the ideal of the lone genius, expecting that each humanities scholar be the sole author of his or her journal articles. In the sciences and social sciences, we expect that there be two or three authors for each journal article. On Wikipedia, every well-developed article has many more than three authors. The result is an ever-increasingly accurate approximation of objectivity. This objectivity is not the pseudo-objectivity that results from ignoring our biases as authors, but is rather the result of diverse perspectives all being covered proportionally through discussion between people who have those diverse perspectives. We write better when we write together.

I think those principles are pretty neat. And I am certain my editing adheres to them. If you'd like to contact me off the site, let me know - I'd be happy to share ways to get in touch.

John Bailey Owen (talk) 17:56, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

@Johnnydowns:, unfortunately there are serious concerns about WP:Meatpuppetry and what seems to have been a campaign which resulted in driving Featured Article writer, editor Neelix, off this website Wikipedia. That is most unfortunate. — Cirt (talk) 17:59, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Dispute notice

That is redundant as a duplicate entry to the WP:Meatpuppetry case already being discussed at ANI, that unfortunately resulted in wikihounding Neelix off this website. — Cirt (talk) 18:48, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Taking a break

Taking a break from Wikipedia for some time with good friends and company, and perhaps a bit of exercise and fresh air. — Cirt (talk) 01:18, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Watch out for Joe jobs

Let's say I hate editor Y. I wait for somebody (X) to get into a dispute with Y, and then I start tag teaming with X with a bunch of IPs and socks. Does that make X guilty? Not at all. I think a dynamic like this was going on with Neelix and some unidentified troll(s). One or two good faith editors (X) may have gotten mixed up unintentionally. Jehochman Talk 03:32, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Sounds good, along with the advice you gave to the user, I'm good with that. — Cirt (talk) 04:33, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take it to AfD ...

... but that just highlights what's broken about the PROD process -- that anyone can remove a prod for as specious a reason (or none whatsoever) as they wish. I'm surprised an editor with your experience would remove a prod with a "seems legitimate" rationale: since when does "It exists" constitutes a ground to keep an article? I've no doubt someone will get to this before I do, but this user appears to be adding sourced information, and nobody has talked to them on the talk pages, theirs or otherwise, to explain if rotten tomatoes isn't a valid reference. Would it be better to engage them in dialogue as nobody appears to have done it, or have I missed something? Possible AE matter

Given Cwobeel's attitude and disregard for WP:BLP, I wonder if these three edits to restore the Adam Sandler, Susan Sarandon and Nicolas Cage lists would be enough to show the user is not fit to edit BLPs. It is completely unacceptable to reference IMDb and the user was alerted to the sanctions already, but still saw fit to challenge it even after the BLPN discussion. The three diffs, [1][2][3], follow a discretionary sanction and warning for battleground behavior on BLPs. [4] Your call, I already have him at ArbCom for something more complex and minor. This should be pretty clear cut in comparison. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 04:44, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Advice from Kww

WP:BURDEN may be a policy, but WP:POINT is as well. Don't do a lot of these, and when you do do them, do it one section at a time so that individual sections can be easily restored when citations are found.—Kww(talk) 22:38, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Okay, Kww, sounds good. Agreed.  Done. Consider it stopped for a while. :) — Cirt (talk) 22:56, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
My thanks to JzG for this comment and to ChrisGualtieri for this comment. Much appreciated. Thank you, — Cirt (talk) 01:49, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Additional comment: I was most certainly NOT trying to make any "point" and I was NOT trying to violate WP:POINT. I sincerely believe that these claimed "awards" are indeed contentious and controversial info, and should be cited, ideally to secondary sources. I don't think Wikipedia should allow any blatantly unsourced info, positive or negative, about BLPs. It wasn't my intent to violate WP:POINT, rather just remove unsourced info about BLPs. If Wikipedia allows unsourced info to remain for years in BLP pages, positive or negative in nature, it has the tendency to lead to problems such as the Wikipedia Seigenthaler biography incident. ALL information in BLP pages should be cited, and if removed, NOT added back without cites. I actually do believe that the act of blindly adding back such unsourced material is WP:POINTy, but removal of unsourced BLPs should not be seen as such. — Cirt (talk) 02:03, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome but I am not a happy contributor. My edit was summarily reverted by MaterialScientist without comment. I have further explained the reason for my edit (a basic, fundamental point of electromagnetic theory) on his talk page but have had no response. I do not want to get into a editing war with a Lord of Wikipedia who somehow makes hundreds of edits a day. I have always been a user, proponent, and financial supporter of Wikipedia but this situation has totally reversed my position. I have found that the veracity of the content is seriously compromised by the activities of dictatorial personalities (with questionable credentials) who use their knowledge of the intricacies and tricks of Wikipedia to satisfy some sick personal agenda.TheOldME (talk) 18:11, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

About your (non)participation in the January 2012 SOPA vote

Hi Cirt. I am Piotr Konieczny (User:Piotrus), you may know me as an active content creator (see my userpage), but (as you also know :) ) I am also a professional researcher of Wikipedia. Recently I published a paper (downloadable here) on reasons editors participated in Wikipedia's biggest vote to date (January 2012 WP:SOPA). I am now developing a supplementary paper, which analyzes why many editors did not take part in that vote. Which is where you come in :) You are a highly active Wikipedian (76th now!), and you were active back during the January 2012 discussion/voting for the SOPA, yet you did not chose to participate in said vote. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me why was that so? For your convenience, I prepared a short survey at meta, which should not take more than a minute of your time. I would dearly appreciate you taking this minute; not only as a Wikipedia researcher but as a fellow content creator and concerned member of the community (I believe your answers may help us eventually improve our policies and thus, the project's governance). PS. If you chose to reply here (on your userpage), please WP:ECHO me. Thank you! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:00, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Edward Lottick

The article Edward Lottick has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:BLP1E. Lottick's son's death is the event that notability is hinged upon. No prior or post coverage to establish depth or notability.

"Erin Ade" page

Hi, you deleted a page regarding "Erin Ade" in July 2011 (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Erin_Ade&action=edit&redlink=1). I saw on the Deletion discussion page that 1) the article was poorly referenced and 2) she was not considered to have significant claim to notability. I think, now, she is quite a respectable journalist with her own financial program "Boom Bust" at RT. I want to create her Bio page. How should i proceed? Thanx.Sohebbasharat (talk) 23:56, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Mauna Loa

You open to collaboration? Maybe we could take Mauna Loa to FAR. It's something I've been sitting on for a long time now and also something on Ceranthor's bucket list. Geology and eruptive history are redone, human history, ecology, observatories, and tourism need to be written. See this.
I honestly doubt it will ever go through another Featured article campaign again alone, I think it's just way too much tedious bullshit to deal with to make it worth the effort anymore. I came here to write articles, not format citations...though I don't seem to be doing much of either, lately. ResMar 20:41, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the idea, Resident Mario, but these days I don't have as much time and I'm usually focusing on topics generally related to freedom of speech and censorship, and/or past quality improvement projects I've taken to WP:GA. — Cirt (talk) 20:45, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Very well, very well, far be it that I determine where your interests are. I do wonder though if something can't be done to bring more editors together on co-operative "article improvement drives" as you say. Hmm. ResMar 20:49, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
I appreciate your interest, Resident Mario, I encourage you to join both WP:WikiProject Freedom of speech and WP:WikiProject Quality Article Improvement. Also, if you like I could update you on some of my ongoing quality improvement projects. — Cirt (talk) 20:55, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
In the latter case I don't think such projects are useful unless they achieve a critical cohesive social mass in the community that makes them sustainable—otherwise blink and they're gone. I think the organization of collaboratives would require something more along the lines of forum shopping. ResMar 20:59, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Alright, I respect your opinion, but encourage you to think about the above. If we could find a project of mutual interest it'd be fun to collaborate on quality improvement together. — Cirt (talk) 21:03, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
I'll definitely think about it. ResMar 21:24, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Clickbait or valid article?

What do you think? Is this clickbait or a valid topic for an article? "The 'sex selfie stick' lets you FaceTime the inside of a vagina" from The Independent. It's a vibrator with an attached camera called the Svakom Gaga. There seems to be a growing amount of coverage for it. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:52, 17 March 2015 (UTC) edit: Kind of weird question, I know, but I figure you're probably the best authority on controversial sex-related articles – or, at least, the first name that pops into my head! NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:57, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

@NinjaRobotPirate:Certainly seems like it's got plenty of coverage at Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL. I'd suggest you peruse some of those sources, but unfortunately I myself don't have the time right now for this one among other Quality improvement projects. — Cirt (talk) 20:56, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tiens Biotech Group, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Recent Article

Hello, I'm here to respond to your previous message.

I decided to change it since it says that Ernest Ka'ai lived from 1881-1961, yet it says that he died in Miami in 1962. So either one of those things needs to be edited in order to agree with the other one. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.32.87.169 (talk) 23:51, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured articles that haven't been on the Main Page?

Hi there, I'm obviously a bit new to Wikipedia, having created an account two months ago. Anyway, I wanna ask two questions. So, as you can see in the headline, it relates to Wikipedia:Featured articles that haven't been on the Main Page. So, I found out that The Tower House, Secret of Mana and Gary Cooper are on the page even though they were featured. I edited the page to take them out, but the bot reverted my edit. So, question number one, will the articles that were featured this month be edited out when June starts? And question number two, is the bot the only "user" that should edit the page? I hope you will reply soon. TVShowFan122 (talk) 11:44, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Note to self:

Research upcoming Featured quality improvement projects.

Perhaps some additional consultation with John about copy editing and/or to see if a few articles are ready or what other quality improvement steps could be taken further.

(John previously was quite helpful with copy editing on WP:FAs: Fuck (film), Fuck: Word Taboo and Protecting Our First Amendment Liberties, and WP:GA: "R U Professional".)

Not sure if I've got enough personal time in my life right now to bring something all the way up to Featured quality, but worth looking into possible projects.

Cirt (talk) 20:54, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Update: John has kindly agreed to take another look at "R U Professional", and advise me as to what's the next appropriate step for it to further along the Quality improvement process. — Cirt (talk) 21:33, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello from the team at Featured article review!

We are preparing to take a closer look at Featured articles promoted in 2004–2010 that may need a review. We started with a script-compiled list of older FAs that have not had a recent formal review. The next step is to prune the list by removing articles that are still actively maintained, up-to-date, and believed to meet current standards. We know that many of you personally maintain articles that you nominated, so we'd appreciate your help in winnowing the list where appropriate.

Please take a look at the sandbox list, check over the FAs listed by your name, and indicate on the sandbox talk page your assessment of their current status. Likewise, if you have taken on the maintenance of any listed FAs that were originally nominated by a departed editor, please indicate their status. BLPs should be given especially careful consideration.

Thanks for your help! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:53, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Please respond at Wikipedia talk:Unreviewed featured articles/sandbox#Pinging next round; thanks! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:53, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
