Unreferenced living people articles bot
User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.
The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Taiwan/Archive 6/Unreferenced BLPs<<<
If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.
Thank you.
- Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Taiwan/Archive 6/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
- There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons
The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.
Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Taiwan/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 67 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.
Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:39, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Senkaku Islands Content Split/Removal
Hi everyone. I would like to discuss the Senkaku Islands article, specifically (a) all sections i, ii, and iii that give the actual arguments used in its dispute, (b) the one section on the history of the dispute, (c) and the one section that is not about the islands themselves.
(a) Moving all of the disputable contents to a separate article would help readers better understand what information is being disputed and what is not.
(b) Although the current list of historical events is more on the factual side, it is centered on the dispute over the islands. As such, it would disproportionately distract from the islands themselves and may be better combined in a separate article with the sections mentioned in (a).
(c) The information in this section might be related to the islands outside of Wikipedia, but as far as how articles are organized, it has nothing to do with the topic--in fact, it does not even mention the islands.
Lastly, although I would love to move around or rephrase any content so that it could be agreeable to Wikipedia guidelines, I don't think it would be the best practice if questionable edits were practically to become a burden for other editors. In which case, I would think that removal--following discussion on the relevant Talk Page and Noticeboard--should be justified despite loosing the questionable contents.DXDanl (talk) 19:40, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

The article Special state-to-state relations has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Article does not establish the significance, and has remained essentially one sentence for six years.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Felix the Cassowary 13:46, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Republic of China portal is up for deletion
I have nominated Republic of China (ROC) portal for deletion at WP:MFD. Please comment here for any concerns. Thanks, JJ98 (Talk) 20:59, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- There has been a recent wave of disconnect of Republic of China articles in general. There is also a 2011 in Taiwan article which overshadows 2011 in the Republic of China even though that has been going since 2007, and we explicitly say Republic of China (Taiwan), and that is still not good enough. It is obvious most Taiwanese want nothing to do with Chinese anymore. ROC is not recognised by anyone. So why don't we make a decision on how to organise these articles altogether. Question about Diaoyu and Diaoyutai naming
Dear experts of Chinese culture and language,
There is a matter about whether or not "Diaoyu", "Tiaoyu", "Diaoyutai", and "Tiaoyutai" are distinctively different names. Since this may involve some intimate knowledge of the Chinese language, I thought this will be a right place to direct the question to. Since a thread about this had already began in Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names), I decided to mirror paste parts of it in this page (the excluded section, which is rather irrelevant, can be found in Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names)#Further_debates_between_involved_parties):— Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobthefish2 (talk • contribs)

Scope
Are Quemoy, the Matsu Islands, Wuchiu, the Pratas and Itu Aba within the scope of this WikiProject? 218.250.159.25 (talk) 17:40, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- Also, since this project states that its "scope may overlap with WikiProject Japan and WikiProject China in some areas", does this mean that WikiProject Spain and WikiProject Netherlands are also partner projects? Shrigley (talk) 17:45, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- And what about events that happened in former ROC territories, such as the Battle of Tachen Archipelago, or the articles on the Liaopeh, Antung, Hokiang, Jehol and Chekiang provinces? 218.250.159.25 (talk) 18:15, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- Kinmen (Quemoy), Matsu, Wuchiu, Pratas, and Itu Abu are covered in this project, as you can tell from their talks that they are tagged. The project does overlap with Japan's and China's due to being geographically close, ongoing area disputes, current economic dependencies/trades...etc. Spain and Netherlands are only mentioned in early Taiwan's (the island's) colonial history before the ROC. The old provinces are under project China's scope as they are historical provinces of China. The outlying islands first mentioned are covered in the project because they are still under Republic of China jurisdiction. If you go watch/read Taiwan news or weather reports they are often covered. Hope this solves any confusions. - iForce= 00:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- In that case neither the scope[1] nor the title is accurate. 218.250.159.25 (talk) 03:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

- What to do with DNFTT? 202.189.108.140 (talk) 11:42, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- The current scope as stated is too ambiguous. 202.189.108.245 (talk) 07:48, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- If you are hung up on a lack of theoretical consistency, then if it makes you happy, as a mental exercise, substitute WikiProject:Republic of China whenever you read the title. But that name is unmanageably long, and "Taiwan" is the popular usage for ROC. What works best works in practice is best, whether it fits in with a theoretical scheme or not. OTOH, if you are advocating removing things from the project scope, then WP:DNFTT is again the appropriate response. Ling.Nut3 (talk) 08:12, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- I am not referring to the title. The "Scope" section in the project page is supposed to be much less ambiguous, in a similar manner as the long title or the interpretation section of a piece of legislation. The current state of the "Scope" section is either too ambiguous on its inclusiveness of the rest of the Republic of China, or it's clear enough to exclude those places. If it's meant to include them, the section should be rewritten. 202.189.108.140 (talk) 11:21, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- If the only thing you want to do is edit that section of that page, then {{sofixit}}. Other will revert if you mess it up. ... One of the most important behaviorl guidelines for editing is WP:CYCLE...(Just be sure to use a very clear Edit summary) Ling.Nut3 (talk) 11:31, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

- Dear multiple IP addresses: under no circumstances can you talk your way into removing articles from the scope of this WikiProject. If the scope section of the WikiProject page does not cover all articles, then either broaden that section, or live with it. Was that clear enough? Ling.Nut3 (talk) 11:49, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- Just a comment. That scope has been there before I joined the project. Also, recently WP:NC-TW has been rejected that it is a consensus. So before that issue is solved of whether ROC=Taiwan or what are the fates of the islands in Fukien Province, I don't think changing it would be appropriate since it might cause warring ...etc. If you have came here searching for definition and scope of "Taiwan", it is still being discussed at Talk:Republic of China or Talk:Taiwan (disambiguation). This project's scope wasn't a problem until recently when the PRC was move to China. Depiction of ROC administered territories in the map of China
The dispute is over the factual depiction of PRC territories on the article on China. It involves territories currently administered by the Republic of India and the Republic of Taiwan and hence I felt pertinent to post here to attract attention of those interested in contributing to the discussion on Talk:China. — Nearly Headless Nick {C} 21:15, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

South China Sea naming dispute
Since we have a Sea of Japan naming dispute article, should a companion article be created for the South China Sea naming dispute ? As it is the "South Sea" (PRC/ROC), "East Sea" (Vietnam), "West Philippine Sea" (Philippines) and "South China Sea" (internationally/HK). As the Philippines and HK are English speaking localities of the region, and Vietnam uses "East Sea" internationally in English, there seems to be enough to work from. -- 76.65.131.248 (talk) 03:15, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
New copyright laws in Taiwan to be reviewed March 2013 relating to aboriginal symbols and motifs
Refer to:
- Yang Chiu-ying and Jake Chung, 2012-10-21, Aboriginal copyrights to be reviewed next year, Taipei Times
In Taiwan, it is expected that in March 2013, the Indigenous Peoples Intellectual Property Act is to be reviewed, so that:
- "All ownership rights connected with the items, names, symbols and other intellectual property that pass the review next year would be returned to the applicable Aboriginal tribes... Companies or people that use names or items that originally belonged to Aboriginal tribes could potentially be restricted from using that item, product or name, should the tribe’s application pass the review... Netizens should also avoid posting pictures and symbols of particular Aboriginal signs online. If such signs have to be posted on the Internet for a particular reason, permission from the relevant tribes should be obtained to prevent future problems".
How will this affect both Wikimedia Commons and the English Wikipedia? It seems that the use of Taiwanese aboriginal symbols, motifs and the like will require permission from aboriginal tribes, if the law is altered. I've also asked Commons here. -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 02:53, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

User: HongQiGong
This user likes to remove references to Taiwan and replace them with words that only reference China. They also like to promote stereotypes in the BLPs of Asian-Americans born in America by inserting Chinese names and adding unnecessary and inappropriate references to Chinese ancestry. A recent example is when they added content labeled "ethnicity" in the infoboxes of journalists when it is not standard or notable to put the ethnicity of a journalist in the infobox. They are very persistant and will constantly revert edits that try to undo their harm. Their edits are offensive and promote racism. Please feel free to tell them to stop and report them to AN/I if their behavior continues. They have been doing this for many years, and it is too difficult to stop them alone. 174.236.103.39 (talk) 21:10, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Should "Chen Yu-cheng" 陳宥辰 (archer) be "Chen Yu-chen"?
I think "Chen Yu-cheng" should redirect to Chen Yucheng, and the pinyin for the Archer is Chén Yòuchén. I would only use "Chen Yu-cheng" if there is proof this is the common form of his name. WhisperToMe (talk) 10:44, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Interwiki problem for Taiwanese Mandarin
Currently on Wikidata, the English Wikipedia article Taiwanese Mandarin links to zh:中華民國國語 on the Chinese Wikipedia. However, on the Chinese Wikipedia there are multiple articles spread around various similar but distinct topics, namely zh:臺灣國語 (lit. "Taiwan national language") and zh:台灣華語 (lit. "Taiwan Mandarin"). Taiwanese or Chinese?
I'm not a regular at this project, but Wikipedia:Manual of Style/China-related articles doesn't seem to give a clear answer to this question. The article on Takeshi Kaneshiro (a Japanese actor of Okinawan and Taiwanese descent) is currently in the middle of a minor edit war between two IP-hopping editors switching the description of his mother between "Taiwanese" and "Chinese from Taiwan". The manual of style doesn't appear to favour use of "Taiwanese" over "Chinese", but all the Wikipedia articles on Taiwanese people I have looked at use "Taiwanese", and this seems like a more natural English wording. So what is the current consensus on matters like this? --DAJF (talk) 15:28, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
- Just use "Taiwanese". The IPs forcing "Chinese from Taiwan" are just being typical mouth-breathers. It's normal and widely accepted to use "Taiwanese" throughout Wikipedia, and some people just like to make drama out of these adjectives, it happens all the time. --benlisquareT•C•E 17:29, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

legal system in TaiwanAfter living in Taiwan for the last 7 years, i realized that the legal system here in very antiquated and the judges focus on single points not the whole case, in Taiwan you can even write as many bad checks as you want without any consequences, and the judges are not properly trained to look and question evidence, making judgments on a fly- so Taiwan is Far from a civil society. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I've opened a discussion at Talk: Taiwan about how to describe the Republic of China consistent with how Wikipedia describes other partially recognised states like Kosovo. Participation welcomed. Frenchmalawi (talk) 19:15, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
Wushantou Dam and Reservoir
Should we merge the articles Wushantou Dam and Wusanto Reservoir? All the other articles on Taiwanese dams and reservoirs, Techi Dam for example, have both covered in a single page. Transphasic (talk) 01:02, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support. In the list of dams and reservoirs in Taiwan, Wushantou is the only reservoir that doesn't link directly or redirect to its "dam" article. Phlar (talk) 22:00, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Election articles
Hi everyone. The most recent local elections in Taiwan have been referred to as Taiwan local elections, 2014. However, all the other election articles are "Republic of China...." This is understandable as the ROC article was renamed to Taiwan only after most of the election articles had been created.
I assume that there should be some uniformity regarding the election articles, as Taiwan hasn't changed it's official name recently. Should:
a) there be historic renaming of election articles to "Taiwan...."?
b) only new election articles refer to "Taiwan"?
c) everything go to "ROC" and stay like that?
I wouldn't want to go with c), as clearly there's a preference for "Taiwan" headings at least on the 2014 local election article.
I was wondering if anyone had any views or how this issue might get resolved if there's deadlock? Are there any policies that would help decide how the articles should be titled? John Smith's (talk) 08:56, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- My impression was that we used ROC for articles strictly related to the state / government and not just the place (which is also what I'd support doing), so maybe the election article should be moved. On the other hand, you're definitely right in that there seems to be a trend towards just using Taiwan in all titles, so let's see what other people think. (Shouldn't this discussion take place at WT:TAIWAN instead?) wctaiwan (talk) 00:26, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, the closing consensus at the move discussion went towards "Taiwan" being used for the place, however "Republic of China" remaining in use for government topics, hence President of the Republic of China is an article, but President of Taiwan is not. Consensus can change, but we will need a proper discussion for that first. Also, I too think that this is better suited for discussion at WT:TAIWAN, this talk page is specifically for improving the Taiwan article. --benlisquareT•C•E 05:49, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I have repost my first comment there. I didn't post there at first because I wasn't sure how many people would be watching the page. John Smith's (talk) 08:57, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and moved the discussion here so it'd remain centralised. A link is left at Talk:Taiwan. wctaiwan (talk) 09:10, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Given that it's been a few days and there haven't been new comments, I've moved the article to make it consistent with the other ones. We can still discuss whether we want to go the other way and rename all post-1949 (or whatever bar it is that people want to set) election articles. wctaiwan (talk) 17:59, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- ... and got reverted with no new comment at the talk page; sigh. (The edit summary was
same as the central election commision website http://engweb.cec.gov.tw/files/11-1030-5692.php
, which is fine, but we need discussion to gauge consensus.) wctaiwan (talk) 04:37, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
I sort of agree with him though. I'm all in favour of using article names that people recognise and are most common. It is easier to rename the article to confirm with the rest than rename the rest to line up with this one, but I think the best solution is to rename the other articles to use the word "Taiwan" rather than ROC. WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Are there any Chinese speakers who could help in sourcing this article about a reporter for the World Journal, Chinese-language American newspaper owned by the same group that runs the United Daily News in Taiwan? It's quite possible that there are articles in the Chinese-language press, but they're hard to find and interpret without a knowledge of the language. The article is being discussed for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Portia Li. – Voceditenore (talk) 06:31, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

Can anyone help with the article Chia-Hui Lu? I recently declined a speedy since there does seem to be an assertion of notability but I think that the coverage will be predominantly in another language. There's a new user there (Godzillarampage) that is interested in improving the page. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:28, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Tokyogirl79: I don't think the subject satisfies GNG. The only significant, independent coverage outside of blogs I could find from the first few pages of Google was this interview. Furthermore, the claims in the article don't seem to meet WP:BAND, and I don't see additional information in the zhwiki article that would establish notability. Unless the new user can come up with sources, I'd suggest sending it to AfD. wctaiwan (talk) 17:26, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

According to WP:ENREQ, Taiwan (Island) is on the top of the list with the most interwiki links. The apparent problem is that the current article on "Taiwan" is more of a summary of the sovereign state, rather than regarding the island itself. However, Geography of Taiwan does not seem like a good redirect as it focuses solely on the geography, rather than the geopolitical status. Meanwhile, Republic of China also redirects to Taiwan. The only way to remedy this seems to be to move Taiwan to Republic of China, then create Taiwan (Island) as a separate article. This is a major change and I am definitely not intending to do this myself, but I would like to hear what the participants of this WikiProject think about the problem. The Average Wikipedian (talk) 15:21, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Talking about Taiwan/ROC is really a never-ending dispute. Even most (I can say "99%") of the edits is always only about reverting between Taiwan or Republic of China names and vice versa. Seriously, everyone is just interested in doing that name changes, without really having the interest to create new articles regarding other aspects of Taiwan/ROC or improving (making longer) any existing articles about Taiwan/ROC. So yeah, I guess we just have to add more geographical info of ROC to Geography of Taiwan and geopolitical status info of ROC to Taiwan. Chongkian (talk) 02:23, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- I like the idea of relegating the governmental and sovereignty issues into an article called "Republic of China" or "Taiwan (government)" or some such name, and putting everything else in a separate "Taiwan (island)" article. The status quo is an imperfect compromise, as can be seen from the discussions that sprout every few months on Talk:Taiwan. If a "Taiwan (island)" article can withstand the test of time in 84 other languages, it should be able to exist in English, too. I would be willing to participate in creating the new article, after a consensus has been established around the change. Phlar (talk) 17:05, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I'm editing the page of Show Luo. He is a famous Taiwanese singer. Is anyone has some comments or feedback? It would be greatly appreciated. Thisislily (talk) 02:55, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
This new article, written by a student, may need a copyedit, and a check for neutrality and such, since it's supposed to about a derogatory term for Taiwanese people. It does seem to me that this term is also used in a non-derogatory fashion, too. Also, I wonder which spelling is more common: "tai ke" or "taike"? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:30, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- It should be noted that the article is a translation of zh:台客, an article that has several cleanup tags. "Taike" looks more common to me, but that is based on a somewhat cursory Google search. —Kusma (t·c) 19:46, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
Why the welcome box?
What purpose does it serve, and why should this WikiProject in particular have such a notice at the top of the page? (Additionally, the ROC flag is probably not the most appropriate illustration in this context, but I see someone else removed it.) I'd rather we just kept ourselves to the standard page contents. (Pinging Lee788 since you added it.) wctaiwan (talk) 18:01, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
@Lee788: I don't understand the welcome box that you have added at the top of Wikipedia:WikiProject Taiwan:
The welcome message is nice, but the instruction to "see the project's talk page for related discussions" seems misleading to me.
- This talk page (where I am writing now) is intended for discussion of the content of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Taiwan page, is it not?
- If I understand the way these project pages work, the "ideal" page for posting new topics/projects is the notice board, and the page for discussing these projects is the discussion board (actually the "notice board's" talk page).
- Am I wrong here? I am new to WikiProjects, so please bring me up to speed.
Also, the "external" link to WikiProject Council seems totally inappropriate. What does it have to do with this Taiwan project?
Phlar (talk) 18:16, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
- To be honest, I didn't realise the noticeboard existed until you pointed it out, heh. I've now added it to my watchlist. But I think people have sort of been using this talk page also for general queries related to Taiwan. I'd assume the WikiProject Council link is just a typo from a truncated link. wctaiwan (talk) 18:25, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Lanshuei River
It looks to me that "Lanshuei River" (Tainan) is a local variant (or transliteration mistake) of "Yanshui River" (Tainan) — their stated lengths are the same, and there are only few rivers of this size, none of them has a name that comes closer in pronounciation. Perhaps "鹽" is pronounced "lan" is some local dialect? If so, the former (unreferenced orphan) should be redirected to the latter, but maybe somebody with local knowledge can confirm this? Micromesistius (talk) 17:00, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- I would suspect it's a mistake, as I can't find any potential matches looking at lists of rivers in Taiwan. Unless Dr. Blofeld can recall the circumstances for the creation of the article, I think we should just delete it (not redirect, since it's not a plausible misspelling and would only serve to mislead). wctaiwan (talk) 18:07, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- OK, lets then ping @Dr. Blofeld. Since the Yanshui article was created later than the Lanshuei one, it is plausible that the latter was intended to be the main article. Micromesistius (talk) 19:16, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Two stadiums
Dear Taiwan experts: Here are two articles: Taoyuan Arena and Taoyuan County Stadium. Neither is well referenced. The first was redirected by an editor who believed that these are the same building. Another editor undid the redirect. Are these really two arenas? Is either a notable topic?—Anne Delong (talk) 04:13, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
- Googling in Chinese, it seems that the former refers to the arena in a complex that also includes a track and field stadium, whereas the latter might also refer to the arena, or the complex as a whole. (Sorry, piecing information together here, so I don't have a source I can point to.) They probably shouldn't be separate articles, and notability appears borderline at best--it seems to generally be mentioned in the context of events being held there. I found one Chinese-language news article discussing how it's underused, but there doesn't seem to be significant independent coverage. wctaiwan (talk) 05:17, 25 November 2015 (UTC) [4] has a description from the agency that owns the venue. wctaiwan (talk) 05:19, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
- wctaiwan, I must apologize. I went on to other projects and didn't remember to check for a reply here. It occurred to me that if neither of these articles has enough references for a stand alone page, they could be redirected and content merged with the article about the municipality. I know how to do this. Would Taoyuan, Taiwan, Taoyuan County or Taoyuan District be most suitable?—Anne Delong (talk) 03:12, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
- Anne Delong: Taoyuan, Taiwan is probably the most suitable, as the venue is a city facility. (I notice that the link I previously provided is now dead; [5] seems to be the new location.) wctaiwan (talk) 04:39, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Hello, this article, supposedly a tributary of the Gaoping River, does not provide any sources, and I have trouble matching it with any sizeable tributary of the Gaoping River (or any river in Taiwan). Chinese WP does not list anything resembling this among the tributaries. I am inclined to think there is no such river in Taiwan, but without knowing the real Chinese name it is difficult to be sure. - Um, Dr. Blofeld, I think it might be a good idea to go over your geography stubs. This would be the third if it turns out to be unverifiable like the other two before it. I'm concerned we're propagating incorrect information. Have all these been created in a similar fashion or from a single source? Categorization
What are the official guidelines about categorization of Taiwanese categories: Should the category related to Taiwan (e.g. companies of Taiwan) be included also as a subcategory in the relevant Chines category (e.g. companies of China)? It seems that the practice is inconsistent and relevant Chinese categories have been added to different categories and removed by different editors in different times. The question was triggered by the question if Category:Nuclear power stations in Taiwan should be included also as a subcategory in Category:Nuclear power stations in China or not. Thank you for your replies. Beagel (talk) 20:46, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- Yes. Given the sensitive nature of the China Taiwan relations I was frankly surprised to see Wikipedia making the nuclear power of Taiwan subordinate to that of China. In the interest of WP:NPOV I think this non-trivial issue needs a discussion with a consensus in order for us to undertake such categorization. To kick it off I will add that in making categories of Taiwan subordinate to those of China we would open up for a discussion of whether the categories of one of the two Koreas should be subordinate to those of the other. (None of these two countries currently have their nuclear power stations subordinate to the others'). Thanks. Lklundin (talk) 08:55, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Is it OK to ask for attention to a dysfunctional Commons template (namely Cultural Heritage Taiwan) here?
With regards to the "Cultural Heritage Taiwan" template currently being completely dysfunctional, see:
- The template's discussion page, starting from 5 April 2017.
- User Reke's talk page, starting from 3 April 2017.
After I had notified this problem in the beginning of April 2017 via Commons' IRC chat, and through Wikimedia Taiwan and others, some people have clearly taken interest (see the links above), but is unclear if somebody will solve this problem. (Verheyen Vincent (talk) 14:54, 12 April 2017 (UTC))
- Looks like the template was created by User:Romaine who is still active on Wikipedia. I suggest leaving a message on the user's Talk page and see what can be done about it. — Czgsq (talk) 15:31, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- I think I fixed it. Used new base URL. Just need to look up the new Page ID and replace in each photos. — Czgsq (talk) 17:16, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- An important thing I need to mention is that this template serves a role in the monuments database and is part of the Wiki Loves Monuments system, that is what this template is created for. This means that the identifiers on the file pages match with monuments in the monument database and with the monuments lists on Wikipedia. So if you say that this template is "currently being completely dysfunctional", this is not right and you do not understand the role of this template. The role of this template is not to link to an external database (if such link is possible, it is certainly welcome, but it is not the core goal), but to identify the individual monuments on the photos. So the core goal is identification. Please be aware of that.
- I will inform my colleagues from the Wiki Loves Monuments international team and Monuments Database, they should be able to help out in this situation. Romaine (talk) 02:31, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
- PS: The problem of databases that change there system is a known problem. I think it may be better to have all monuments in Wikidata and use the Wikidata Q... identifiers instead, which can retrieve the official monument IDs and URLs more easily without future problems. Romaine (talk) 02:31, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, the template at the time you first messaged here was non-functional due to the revamping of the government website. The pages were no longer accessible by the existing ID and replaced by a plain database. Zeke has already contacted the Taiwan (ROC) government and is awaiting their response regarding issuance/usage of monument ID with worries about possible future change again so I think your idea for a listing in wikidata is worth considering. Do these projects cover Taiwan? The talk pages are tagged with this project, but neither projects are clearly written with regards to Taiwan, particularly the leads and the title of MOS:CHINESE. Szqecs (talk) 13:07, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose: I am a Hanyu Pinyin user and would like it if Taiwan used it too but the reality is Taiwan's still very disorganized and uses a mixture of Hanyu Pinyin, Tongyong Pinyin (politically motivated), and Wade-Giles systems. So we should reflect what the Taiwan (ROC) government is using as much as possible. Then there is also the problem of Personal Names. This is a funny one, Ma Ying-jeou himself who advocates usage of Pinyin does not change his name to Ma Yingjiu and there is the advantage that the different spelling easily distinguishes between PRC and ROC citizens. So Taiwan is a mess. I think WP:CHINESE and MOS:CHINESE do not apply to Taiwan but can be used as reference. Otherwise, editors not familiar with Taiwan will be confused and make the mistake of assuming everything is in Hanyu Pinyin. — Czgsq (talk) 11:48, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Czgsq: What are you opposing? This is not a proposal lol. Szqecs (talk) 13:40, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Hey, @Czgsq: Do you know which policies and guidelines cover the Taiwan/RoC and China/PRoC naming issue? The whole issue is centrally discussed at WT:Naming conventions (Chinese), which I invite you there. --George Ho (talk) 18:28, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- OK, I think it's not a bad idea to have a place for discussion as long as there is understanding that Taiwan's spelling situation is a disaster. I started a new topic to discuss regarding the spelling convention for Kaohsiung City subdivisions, Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Chinese)#Kaohsiung Subdivisions — Czgsq (talk) 23:23, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Taiwan, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. Rump state question
Because the ROC is considered a rump state, did the Kuomintang held on to the small parts of the islands of Quemoy and Lienchiang that was once part of the Fujian province as well some parts of the mainland? They only have Taiwan and Penghu after Japan surrendered in 1945. Supreme Dragon (talk) 18:43, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Not sure what your question is. To answer the first part, yes, Kuomintang have always held on to both Quemoy and Lienchiang, which were both re-captured from the Japanese during and in the immediate aftermath of the Second Sino-Japanese War. I am not sure what you mean by "they only have Taiwan and Penghu" after 1945, as these two are part of the Taiwan province and is completely separate from the discussion. Alex ShihTalk 19:22, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Which parts of the mainland are you referring to? Kanguole 20:25, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Fujian province Kanguole which is Kinmen and Matsu. Supreme Dragon (talk) 21:18, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

Election article titles
Currently the title format for election articles of Taiwan is not consistent in that some start with "Taiwan" and some "Taiwanese". I think "Taiwanese" is more of an a term for people whereas "Taiwan" should be used for the place. Szqecs (talk) 04:19, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Hatnote
Hey there folks, I just created the Template:Taiwan-note based on the Template:Kosovo-note just for accurate sake. This note below should be implemented on all pages related to Taiwan. Wrestlingring (talk) 00:48, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
Example
Notes
- Using this would bloat lots of articles with repeated boilerplate text, and also runs counter to the first point in WP:TG, which counsels against putting article text in templates. Kanguole 01:16, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Outlawed terror groups in Taiwan
So far, ISIL is the only listed terror group banned in ROC, does the Taiwanese Government have the list of banned terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda, Taliban, East Turkestan Islamic Movement, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and others? I sent an email to the ROC National Security Bureau and the Ministry of Interior today just to confirm it. Can anyone of you also help me find it on the net in both Chinese and English? Supreme Dragon (talk) 21:17, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
- If I recall Taiwan manages such things differently, as do many countries. Most countries outlaw acts of terrorism, not groups themselves. Most so-called "terror groups" are very loosely affiliated alliances with no real head governing body. Banning groups is very difficult, and impedes grossly on free speech, while banning certain actions as well as the planning and funding of said actions is quite easy and generally accepted as good law enforcement practice. Since most terrorist groups associate with other groups of similar motives, treating them as a network of connections is generally a much more effective plan. The advocation of illegal action by said groups is enough to monitor said groups, and because of the interconnection this makes it easier to monitor them if you don't keep a list of specific groups to target as enemies of the State. The heavy focus on individuals in most international terrorism allows easier target of money launderers who have a less direct connection to said groups but process money coming in and out of them. Hence it's surprisingly effective. You can read all about this in the various articles on counter-terrorism strategies. --Robert Wm "Ruedii" (talk) 09:13, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
- No, from what I understand, Taiwan has quite a positive relationship with Hezbollah. In 2006, Taiwan's foreign minister James C. F. Huang came under fire for meeting with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah during a visit to Lebanon [6].--Certified Gangsta (talk) 11:53, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject
Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.
