You are welcome to continue editing articles without logging in, but many editors recommend that you create an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits such as the ability to create articles. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without a username, your IP address (76.66.200.95) is used to identify you instead.
In any case, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}}
before the question on this page. Again, welcome!

Archiving talk-page threads
[edit]If Miszabot misses talk-page threads, it's usually because of malformed or missing timestamps on one of the posts. If stale threads are sticking around, check them carefully and add timestamps (or add "(UTC)" on timestamps that are missing it), and they'll be auto-archived within 24 hours. This is usually less work than doing the archiving manually. --Christopher Thomas (talk) 15:15, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Your article submission has been declined, and Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/French frigate Montréal was not created. Please view your submission to see the comments left by the reviewer, and please feel free to resubmit once the issues have been addressed. (You can do this by adding the text {{subst:AFC submission/submit}}
to the top of the article.) Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! Happysailor (Talk) 11:42, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
- It was declined because it already existed, but it did not exist when it was submitted. Further, the creator of the article HMS Montreal (1761) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) copied text from the AFC submission Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/French frigate Montréal (edit | project page | history | links | watch | logs), without attribution, clearly violating WP:Cut and paste move and WP:GFDL attribution history. And it was declined twice, because the original decliner did not replace the submission template with a decline template, instead adding a second template for decline. The original decliner being the creator of HMS Montreal (1761), seemed to disingenuously decline the article on grounds that it already existed (by creating the article, with content from the AFC submission to boot). 76.66.200.95 (talk) 13:05, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
- I think the creator of HMS Montreal 1761 should have just accepted the article, and then proceed to rewrite it afterwards, as he obviously did when he created HMS Montreal, since it includes content from the AFC from its very first edit. 13:05, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't asked for a WP:SPLICE yet because I brought this issue up at WT:AFC, since this has clear user contribution attribution issues and impacts edit history accuracy. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 13:06, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Taishanese people. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Trafford09 (talk) 09:48, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
- If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
- I've experienced that some people who revert changes don't bother to read the edit summary when I leave one anyway, or can't understand Wikipedia terms used on them. As the edit history of most articles feature mostly blank edit summaries, it seems standard practice to not leave one. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 09:58, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
- That is not at all true. People who are able to revert changes using the rollback function must be experienced editors—I have never come across a reviewer who does not check the edit summary before reverting an edit. It is standard practice to use an edit summary when editing Wikipedia, since it is helpful not only for patrollers, but also to keep an accurate log of changes to an article. If your attitude is such that you cannot edit articles without leaving an edit summary because you think that nobody reads them, and most are left blank anyway (which they are not), then perhaps you should not be a Wikipedian? Wackywace converse | contribs 10:29, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
- I do leave edit summaries, but not always. But I have encountered many times, people reverting, or rolling back changes with edit summaries, and even talk page explainations, where they obviously haven't read them. As the policy for rollback indicates what kinds of edits are supposed to be used on with the rollback feature, I've seen that that isn't followed all that closely by some rollbackers, using it for things that a revert is supposed to be used for. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 10:38, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

- They're kind of identical, in that the info will still be cleared. I'm not sure if the two proposals can go hand-in-hand, but I saw it being done before; I'll see what others say. In any case, I think the article should not stay. ANGCHENRUI WP:MSE♨ 06:13, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- Oh wait, I just realised its a title move. Though it was a merger into the other article. Sigh, but I'll stick with deletion. ANGCHENRUI WP:MSE♨ 06:14, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well, deletion or being renamed is fine with me. Keeping it where it is, is what I would not prefer, even were it to be merged, since should someone want to revive such an article, it should be at the properly named location, not at a badly named one, as such the edit history should be moved. If it is deleted, that would solve the problem, as there would be no redirect or edit history to preserve. I have no strong opinion on whether it should be deleted or not. 76.66.200.95 (talk) 06:19, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
