Do you really think that article has start-class quality? Apart from the "Scandals and controversies", there's nothing much in it, it's a stub at best. And without a history of the project, you can't really understand that section. --JensMueller (talk) 20:43, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Coordinators' working group
Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:42, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Hello everyone. I have created a template to use as an invitation for people who might like to join this WikiProject. To use it, type {{subst:WPTAIWAN-invite}} on the talk page of someone you think might interested in joining.
It will produce the following invitation:

Names
Are all placenames being migrated to Hanyu Pinyin? I've noticed some recent pagemoves. Contributions/70.29.212.226 (talk) 12:36, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Names of people
Should people like Hu Lien be written in Hanyu Pinyin? He was a national of the Republic of China and had never been living under the rule of the Chinese communist. Montemonte (talk) 01:39, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- When people's names have appeared in English language press in the English world, that's the one that should be used. If it's appeared in scholarly works, then the form most commonly used by English language scholars should be used. Since there are many works on the 20th century Chinese Civil War, whichever spelling is most common should be used. If he's appeared in the New York Times or Time Magazine, etc, I think that version should be used. 70.29.212.226 (talk) 04:12, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'd doubt they're commonly known in English by Hanyu Pinyin in the English-language world. And I wouldn't be surprised if these people have official romanised names with ROC government registry. Montemonte (talk) 00:30, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Taiwan Barnstar
The previous discussion foundered on country/not country and Taiwan/ROC distinctions. So instead I've set up a template for a Wikiproject Taiwan Barnstar, particular to the WikiProject, not to the country. If a consensus can be reached on a Barnstar of National Merit, then great, but until then we can use this one to recognise contributions to the project (sample shown):
Taiwan Barnstar of Merit | ||
Awarded to Some Contributor by Taiwantaffy (talk) for contributions to WikiProject Taiwan, specifically for great work in updating the article on Taipei City. 17 November 2024 |
The template is available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Taiwan/Barnstar. The ribbon avoids using the ROC flag and combines both blue and green, to hopefully avoid controversy. Comments welcome here!
Taiwantaffy (talk) 12:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Great job on the barnstar! the 2 before had ROC national merits which was not the title of this project~controversy! I think the colors should be a little bit brighter :D the blue in the back could use ROC flag's blue (dont have to take this advice). I have seen your contributions about Taiwan like the Dutch Formorsa topics and the earthquakes and all the DYK's. I think you deserve a barnstar! wow an invitation to this project?!! See? you really need a barnstar~ after you're done, i'm giving you a barnstar :)--iForce= 15:21, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- oh, and the Taiwan icon in the invitaion can be BIGGER!! like 60-70px. optional --iForce= 15:23, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words – it would be great to encourage more people to contribute to this WikiProject, and invitations and barnstars just serve as little reminders and thank-yous. Per your suggestion I've brightened up the blue in the ribbon. Taiwantaffy (talk) 20:14, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think this is pretty uncontroversial, so I've been bold and added it to the main WP:TAIWAN page. Taiwantaffy (talk) 11:38, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Hello, there is a contest against totally undiscussed cut-and-paste blanking/merging/splitting of East Asian calligraphy by Asoer (talk · contribs). I don't see any active discussion on the edit, so there is naturally no consensus for that. Since it is pertinent to at least "four WikiProject", I'm drawing your attention to the article and hope you would give some useful input on the matter on Talk:East Asian calligraphy. Any active members who are interests in East Asian culture/art would be greatly helpful for the issue. Thanks.--Caspian blue 03:23, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Please wikify 西堤牛排
Another editor has created the article 西堤牛排 in the English Wikipedia about a restaurant chain in Taiwan. It would be helpful if someone could wikify the article. You may also want to look at zh:西堤牛排 and make any improvements to that article that seem appropriate. -- Eastmain (talk) 14:36, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Does anyone know anything about this subject? Is it some kind of doughnut? We would like to cover it as part of Wikipedia's Doughnut Drive 2009 event. ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:56, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Project banners
Would there be any obejections to merging {{WikiProject Taiwanese aborigines}} and {{WikiProject Taiwanese politics}} into the banner for this project? WP:TWABOR and WP:TWPOL don't appear to be particuarly active, and all articles tagged for those projects should comfortably fall within the scope of WikiProject Taiwan. This would also remove the need for multiple banners on pages such as Talk:Wushe Incident and Talk:Four Ifs. I've already made the required changes at {{WikiProject Taiwan/sandbox}}. PC78 (talk) 19:31, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- So for the aborigines would be {{WikiProject Taiwan|aborigines=yes}} and for politics would be {{WikiProject Taiwan|politics=yes}} ? 76.66.194.23 (talk) 09:58, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- Shouldn't politics be also be able to be listed at Template:WikiProject Politics? 76.66.194.23 (talk) 10:02, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- Yes to your first question. Not sure what you're asking with your second question. PC78 (talk) 14:07, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- {{WikiProject Politics|Taiwan=yes}} 76.66.202.219 (talk) 06:41, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- No objections, it's a great idea!!! - iForce= 09:33, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with this idea too. I think you should be bold and implement it. Taiwantaffy (talk) 17:41, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
坪
There is an article on the "坪" (ping) at pyeong. Going by the decision at talk:Shaku, these multinational traditional units should sit at the most common one found in English literature, regardless of which language/country that pronounciation is based on. This article is currently mostly about Korean usage, usage in Taiwan would be nice to add.

Kinmen, Matsu, Tungsha, Wuchiu
Are they part of this project? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.49.136.151 (talk) 18:51, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, because they are quote "Taiwan-related" topics. - iForce= 05:43, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- But then shouldn't this be called the "WikiProject Republic of China," then? - "Taiwan" should be strictly about the island. "China" project can cover administrative matters regarding the ROC. WhisperToMe (talk) 01:07, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
