I started an article on Ueno Michiko, a member of the House of Councillors (Japan), because I saw that another editor had started a draft that appeared to be a copyvio of her page at the House of Councillors website. It's just a stub, although the infobox makes the article look long. The corresponding Japanese Wikipedia article is jp:上野通子. Eastmain (talk • contribs) 04:02, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
Help requested with Template:Monarchs of Japan
[edit]I've noted a couple of issues at Template talk:Monarchs of Japan § Discrepancies. Would someone involved in maintaining Japan history templates have a look? Thanks! —[AlanM1(talk)]— 02:08, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
- I've commented on the talk page. Alex Shih (talk) 22:40, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
Rewrite for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department article
[edit]I think this warrants a rewrite. Anyone up to it? Ominae (talk) 11:59, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Not really interested in the subject, but feel free to ping me if you need some help translating/writing from source materials together. Alex Shih (talk) 22:30, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Np. I'll have to see if anyone can help with revising the TMPD article. It doesn't look good. Ominae (talk) 02:18, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
Mangaka
[edit]I came across an edit at Akira Watanabe (shogi) where “mangaka” was changed to manga artist by TheFarix per MOS:FOREIGN. While I can understand the why changes like this are sometimes made, it seems a bit strange in this case because the stand-alone article is titled “Mangaka”, whereas “manga artist” is a redirect. Assuming the article’s title wasn’t the result of some random move and “Mangaka” is the WP:COMMONNAME, it seems unnecessary to change any use of the word within articles to something else. On the other hand, if this type of cleanup is necessary, then it might be a good idea to discuss whether the name of the article should be changed. Interested in what others might think. — Marchjuly (talk) 21:59, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- I would agree that the current article title implies that links to "mangaka" are all right, and that a move discussion would make clear which to use. Dekimasuよ! 23:33, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- There appears to have been a RM back in 2012 which ended in a new consensus, but not sure if there's been a subsequent discussion since then. Someone also attempted to clarify this in Talk:Mangaka#Article title and word usage in other articles back in 2013, but it was basically just a one person discussion. I'm not a big reader of manga, but maybe these days the word "mangaka" is used enough to be considered OK to be used in articles. It might not be a common as "manga" or "anime" per se, but it's use might be wide-spread enough for a link to redirect page to be unnecessary. FWIW, the Oxford online dictionary does have an entry for the word. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:17, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
Matsudaira sub-clans
[edit]I know nothing about the subject, but an IP has recently added Category:Fukui-Matsudaira clan, Category:Moriyama-Matsudaira clan or Category:Echizen-Matsudaira clan to a bunch of articles. Mindful of WP:OVERCATEGORISATION, we don't normally have categories for subjects not notable enough to have their own article, but there is a bit of flex. Also per WP:REDNOT we don't have links to red-linked categories, either the categories should be created or the links removed. Would someone who does know the area take a look and decide whether these categories are sensible ones, or not, or eg these articles should be reassigned to Category:Matsudaira clan, which does have a matching article? TIA Le Deluge (talk) 18:44, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. There's two more at Category:Matsue-Matsudaira clan and Category:Okudaira-Matsudaira clan. Le Deluge (talk) 10:39, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
Help requested with Draft:Hideroku Hara
[edit]Hello! Could someone with some familiarity with Japanese take a look at this draft? Several of the references focus on the subject's relatives and don't mention the subject, and a couple of the references look self-published. That said, the topic might still meet WP:GNG or WP:NPROF, but I'm having trouble finding sources, and Google Translate is strugling with Japanese. The creating user is new, so I moved the article back to draft space so it didn't get a bunch of deletion tags slapped on it before they had a chance to clean it up. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers! Ajpolino (talk) 22:08, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
