@Archivar-Alex:
I can try to request this by interlibrary loan, but do you have any idea what page numbers might be useful? If not, I can try to request the whole thing, but I'm not sure how successful that'll be, given the limited holdings (see OCLC 16257906) and possible copyright issues with scanning the whole thing. If you're not sure what the page numbers are, and I can't get the whole thing, I'll try asking for a table of contents and/or index (hopefully it has something like that), and then we can use that to figure out what page numbers to ask for.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:34, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don‘t really know if there is any content in this book relating to my topic but I think it should be at the end (April 1945…). So I unfortunately don‘t know which pages are relevant. The table of content/ index could be helpful here if it exist.
I‘m appreciate your help. Maybe you have luck to get the whole book.
Don‘t know if the copyright thing is the same as it is for some photos of the US Army Signal Corps??

@Archivar-Alex: Yeah, makes sense. It is created by a US Army soldier, but I'm not sure if it's considered part of their official duties. Anyways, I've attempted to request this, and I'll let you know what response I get. Please email me so I can send you files.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 14:49, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Any news in this topic? Archivar-Alex (talk) 21:07, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Archivar-Alex: I've submitted a request to my university's libraries, who after some back-and-forth, eventually sent a request along to some other library mid-day on March 28th, and are either waiting for a response or taking time to process it. Unfortunately, the amount of time these requests take can vary wildly, depending on various visible and invisible factors, so I don't think I can usefully give you an estimate (though my best guess would be at least a couple of weeks since I think they're going to ship the physical item), but I'm hoping I can get it eventually.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 21:48, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Archivar-Alex: I've received the whole thing. Skimming through it, I see no mention of "Geislingen", "Natweiler", or "Struhof", though I do see some brief mentions of their presence in or near Göppingen.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:10, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's to bad. Nevertheless thank you for your efforts. I realy thaught their could be some information about it.
Maybe the book could help me by others researches, so I would ask if it is may possible to send me the whole book.
Thank you in advance. Archivar-Alex (talk) 23:14, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is it an image request or you want to describe the image? If the latter, the Russian Academy of Sciences posted a book that describes the plate on page 110. I am sure though that you want to upload it to Wikipedia as it's public domain, but here I just think that Harvard are being assholes for restricting access to public domain documents (I tried maniulating the width and height of the image in question but Harvard sysadmins aren't that stupid, so the request redirected me to the login page). Books about Le Touquet in French

[edit]

For User:Szmenderowiecki/sandbox/Touquet, particularly WWII and post-war reconstruction - will be thrown directly into Le Touquet article

The first article is available through OpenEdition, but The Wikipedia Library access to it is broken, hence my request. The second and third books are very likely offline, and I don't have relevant pages, so I'd appreciate someone with ILL (buying ILL vouchers). Obviously I cannot and will not request everything, but I need some info about what was happening, how many Germans were living in that city, what they were doing there, what did they do with the women, elderly and children who remained in the resort, preparations for the Atlantic Wall as relevant to the city and the reason why Le Touquet was so densely mined even though it had little intrinsic military value. Any relevant excerpts that will reflect on this issue will be welcome. I want to make a text that's max 2 paragraphs, beginning from the internment order of enemy males under 60.

Thanks for the ping. It seems that their page is moribund, as it doesn't even get a dozen edits every year. I would definitely have asked them (I had a book or two to ask about Maurice Duplessis but I ultimately decided not to waste my time. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 23:00, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Szmenderowiecki: Hmm, fair enough... My French is limited, but I can try to help. Are you still interested in this? If so, please contact me via Special:EmailUser so I can send you files, and I'll try to request these via ILL; when I receive them, I'll send you the front and back matter. I can try to search for relevant information myself, but if you're able to provide any guidance on where I should look, I would appreciate it. Worst case, I'll just send you the introduction and conclusion in hopes that there's something useful in there. Unless you request otherwise, I'll wait about a week after sending you content before I return the book.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:40, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am still working on my sandbox, so yes, I'd greatly appreciate your efforts there.
The problem is that no library in my country has the books, and pdfs are nowhere to be found. So preferably if you have somebody in France, either in Paris (National Library) or in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, where the town is located, I guess they would have both of the books. Also, because you seem to be based in the United States, check if the Library of Congress has the books, because interlibrary loans to an American library are free, and the LoC has a shitton of everything.
When you get hold of them, send me the ToC and the index (if the books have one), and I will tell more or less what I am looking for.
Thanks for your contributions here. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 19:37, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Szmenderowiecki:
I am indeed in the US, and am a student at a university here. I can request ILL through my university's library system (as I've been doing) or through my county's public libraries. According to WorldCat, these books don't seem to be in the LoC, but Harvard has both and Stanford has one of them, so it should be doable nevertheless.
I've requested both through my university. When I get them, I'll send you photos of any front and back matter, including any ToCs and indices, and you can let me know which parts you think would be most useful. Weighing copyright vs fair use according to related legal precedent, I'm okay with sending you up to about 10% of the content, not counting front/back matter.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:03, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! Szmenderowiecki (talk) 20:06, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko After some consultation with the French colleagues over at fr.wiki, I was able to fill the necessary gaps in coverage about the city, so the article is now essentially ready and there isn't much need for more sources. Of course, if you started an ILL, then I'd kindly ask to continue this request (particularly #3
)but if you haven't started yet, don't bother yourself. Thanks anyway,, Szmenderowiecki (talk) 11:19, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Szmenderowiecki: Got it, sounds good, thanks for letting me know.
I've already requested both books, and they're now on their way and should arrive in a few days or so, so I won't cancel my requests unless issues arise.
When they arrive, I'll send you the front and back matter, and you can let me know if there's anything you think might be useful for that article or any other article you'd like to work on.

For Phyllis Reeve. My best guess is that the needed volume is 13. The google link above shows Volumes 13-16 (1942), Hathitrust shows v.10-14 (1939-1943) at Cornell University and v.9-13 (1938-1942) at the University of California If you search W. L., there are a lot of entries in both Hathitrust links, but if you narrow it to the full name Wilfred Laurier Parham, it confirms the pages 127 and 128 are the obit. Did the worship of turquoise begin in Ancient Egypt?

@Vyacheslav84: You can try asking that question on the of Ma'at as a post in the Ancient Egypt discussion Forum for an informed answer. Also, do not forget to mention that you are looking for reliable sources for editing Wikipedia. If you don't get a response by doing that, I know people whom I can ask directly about it. Paul H. @Paul H.: The forum does not allow you to register, it says that email addresses are prohibited from being used. --Vyacheslav84 (talk) 04:00, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vyacheslav84: "The forum does not allow you to register..." There are ongoing problems with the site's coding for registration and login. I myself have been oceassionally locked out at login even though I am a registered user. Hopefully, it will get fixed. This is the problem of low budget, self-funded web site.
However, I noticed that there currently is an active thread about the "tunnel door." It is Mysterious doors in Great Pyramid to be unlocked by Hawass (5 Dec 2023). Its posts contain links to articles and past posts about the door's "unlocking." The latest news, April 11, 2024 is that Hawass ... "has been working with a team of robotics experts with a new robot design. He said that more will be announced early June." This was from an April 11, 2024 lecture by Hawass. I will see if I can find a more reliable source of information. Paul H. (talk) 21:23, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul H. Thank you so much, I'll be waiting! --Vyacheslav84 (talk) 14:54, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vyacheslav84: I looked around and could not find anything in terms of recent, reliable sources about the shafts of the Great Pyramids. It seems detailed information will only be released in June of this year according to the latest chatter. What I found is:

Miatello, L., 2020. On the Pairs of Shafts in the Pyramid of Khufu as Means for the Ascent to the Akhet. Journal of the American Research Center in Egypt, 56, pp.115-141.

More of his papers are at Egyptian religion and iconography.

Weyburne, K., 2021. An Investigation into the Purpose of the Southern Shaft of the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid. PalArch's Journal of Archaeology of Egypt/Egyptology, 18(4), pp.2744-2757.

Of unknown reliability, I found a self-published article Secrets of the small shafts of the pyramid of Cheops. This article has references for the background history of the early archaeological exploration of the shafts that might prove useful.

A source of background information, might be Digital Giza at Harvard University. Paul H. (talk) 03:19, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Art Journal

[edit]

{{Resolved}} Does anyone have access? All I can find is Google snippets such as:

but the JSTOR page for Uni of Chicago doesn't list it, and neither does the Uni's own journals page. But it's registered on Wordcat. Help would be appreciated. It's odd that Chicogio would publish something so obscure. ——Serial Number 54129 14:12, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It may be defunct, or turned into their American Art. Why not ask them? Johnbod (talk) 14:23, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanking you, Johnbod; pray, tell me your understanding of the concept of a resource exchange, if you will? (Hint: it's all in a name...) ——Serial Number 54129 14:58, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You asked, I answered. Enuf snark. Johnbod (talk) 15:04, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Enough nonsense from you, Johnbod. My question ("Can anyone access...") was not answered by your response (a completely irrelevant comment about a completely different journal. Thanks.) A resource exchange is where editors exchange resources, not where they offer egg-sucking advice. ——Serial Number 54129 15:48, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikipedia Library search bar gives access to some articles in issues from 2008 to 2011/2012. DanCherek (talk) 16:06, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, O voice of sanity... yes, I just found them, and it's just a shame they don't link to anything further. Still, thanks for your help. The search continues. ——Serial Number 54129 17:50, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Serial Number 54129, the pre-2008 issues don't seem to have been digitized, but there are at least a smattering of libraries that hold them in print, so someone could probably get this for you one way or another. I'm guessing from the URL that you're looking for this article: Saleeby-Mulligan, Deborah. “Painting the Irish Conflict: The Street Murals of Belfast and Derry as Expressions of a War-Torn Community,” Chicago Art Review 15 (2005), 31–39. (The author also wrote a dissertation on the topic that many of us have easy access to; it's 377 pages, but if there's a specific part or term you're looking for, let us know.) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 22:57, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying one thing, Extraordinary Writ—that I was getting the name wrong all along! Review not Journal! D'oh. Well at least there's a contact for future reference. As it happens, I found a couple of other articles that cover the material I wanted from CAJ, so the pressure (such as it is!) is off. Thanks very much for your help here though! I might get involved in the broader topic now I've collated a fair amount. Regarding the dissertation, if you have access, can I ask/hold you to the offer in future? I assume it's too detailed for me at the moment, but it will certainly be useful on specific aspects.
Cheers! ——Serial Number 54129 12:28, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, I didn't even notice Review vs. Journal. I found it here, but it's probably just a typo. (This is an unrelated blog.) Yes, feel free to shoot me an email if you ever need anything from the dissertation. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 16:23, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll mark this as resolved now, Extraordinary Writ, but thanks again. And yes, you guessed it; that "unrelated blog"v is the blooming thing I thought gave me a contact! Ha! Talk about convoluted. Thanks again, and I'll probably be in touch. ——Serial Number 54129 17:02, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GBooks has a snippet view of the article. There's enough of the article in the search result to piece together the article. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll send it over. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:54, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it's literally as short as what you get in the regular article link? So the fading out isn't actually hiding any text? That's dumb. Thanks for your help! SilverserenC 19:56, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
