Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Migration to Abyssinia, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Abyssinia and Hijrah. Petro Poroshenko net worth

Hi, Varavour. I've removed the 'net worth' parameters you added to the Petro Poroshenko article infobox as a potential WP:BLP violation for the moment. There appears to be a double standard for what is a violation or WP:UNDUE for Western politicians and those from 'the rest of the world'. Please see the discussion started last year on the article's talk page. Any input as to whether it is appropriate (and, therefore, equally applicable to Western political figures) would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! --Iryna Harpy (talk) 23:05, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the message, Iryna Harpy. I looked over the discussion you mentioned, and I think there is both a logical case for inclusion and is I believe what could be could be a logical framework for determining where including the figures for net-worth would be germane following WP:DUE. I will post my comments on the article's talk page. --Varavour (talk) 02:35, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Cheers, Varavour. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) generating some form of broader discussion and consensus. My personal take is that, on a case by case basis, there's a strong argument for net worth being DUE in instances where political figures enter the arena cashed up. This would be equally valid for a number of other politicians whose assets are omitted on the basis of BLP violation. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 02:51, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of Democrats opposing Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, 2016

The article List of Democrats opposing Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, 2016 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There are not enough individuals opposing the campaign to make it notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 128.172.33.44 (talk) 21:13, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Scottish National Antarctic Expedition

If you could keep this out at least until the hype dies down, that'd be greatly appreciated. Indeed, it does not add any clarity, and is the basis of the humour which is attracting vandalism. I also don't think "indifferent" is really needed, per the source pointed out on the talk page. Thanks for your cooperation MusikAnimal talk 05:27, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Ah, I see with your edit summary "you humourle--", you are clearly in on the humour. I won't lie, the distinction was funny... but an encyclopedia isn't the place for it. Please understand this sort of behaviour is considered disruptive MusikAnimal talk 05:35, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
Well sure, I'm not invested in it, but I don't see harm in a little bit of encyclopedic levity when justified. --Varavour (talk) 05:43, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Gen Suthida Vajiralongkorn na Ayudhya.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Gen Suthida Vajiralongkorn na Ayudhya.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 00:00, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

@General Ization: Oh dear. I downloaded an extension that changed the word "millennials" to "snake people" (ironically enough, after hearing about it after it made its way into a New York Times article. I decided to test it out and read the article. I noticed that the section in question contained contradictory claims and thus decided to insert the word "however" for clarification. It seems the extension managed to change the whole text. I've deleted it now, for good measure! --Varavour (talk) 01:28, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:CEO of Ethiopian Airlines at the crash site.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for your contribution to the SkyWay Group article

From the single article you provided it seems that the SkyWay Group gave a motivated sales lecture in Ethiopia and that some officials possibly made a 'verbal agreement'. This does not add up to formal negotiations yet. I created a new heading on the talk page for 'SkyWay in Foreign Countries: Ethiopia' and I posted your text there with additional information about what was in this interesting article. I also added Ethiopia to the list of countries where sales meetings or lectures are held to promote SkyWay technologies. Any new information and verified articles concerning negotations that may take place in Ethiopia can be collected on the talk page and if you think your text should be returned as is, explain why on the talk page and we can reach a consensus about whether or not what is taking place in Ethopia at present constitutes a 'negotiation'. When your new articles get to about 20 edits per hour by different editors then it would be warranted. - FlightTime (open channel) 16:57, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Se'are Mekonnen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. - FlightTime (open channel) 18:50, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

American politics discretionary sanctions notice

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner

Notice

The article Vicente Zeballos has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. What is the Internet?

Since this is getting a bit off-topic from the massacre, I'm posting here. Just to clarify: I'm not blaming EHRC for ignorance; the Wikimedia Foundation was itself to blame for a well-intentioned but insufficiently thought-out project aiming to encourage Wikipedians in Africa. I forgot the name (the project has an en.Wikipedia entry) - but the effect to a big degree was that in a few countries, especially Nambia (if I remember correctly), people more or less saw Wikipedia and the Internet as one and the same thing, and tried to use WMF projects, especially Commons, as a substitute for ordinary (non-Wikipedia/Wikibooks/Wikimedia Commons/...) internet communication. Commons people had to invest a lot of energy in suppressing content, which unfortunately made them censors of people wanting to use "the Internet". Bad results (but probably also some good results) from good intentions. If you're interested and can't find the link I can see if I can find it... Boud (talk) 00:58, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Just a suggestion...

At Talk:Scheherazade (yacht)#Owner, you wrote; "Certainly the connection to Putin, even if currently unconfirmed, is the primary reason for the yacht's notability, as opposed to its being the thirteenth-longest in the world, and is worthy of a mention—it's why I decide to create the article in the first place."

Putin does own a yacht which is in need of an article; the 82m MY Graceful. If you're looking to create articles about yachts owned by him, why not create that one? - wolf 20:00, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Ethiopian cuisine does not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits a summary may be quite brief.

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Elizium23 (talk) 21:34, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
