Vandalism help

Hi. Whenever you revert a vandalised page it always appears with the text "Reverted 1 edit by xxxxxxxxxxxx identified as vandalism to last revision by yyyyyy. (TW)) (undo) How is this text created? Do you type it out each time, or is there a function to do it? Whenever I revert vandalism I have to type something out. I've looked up wikipedia:revert, but that doesn't seem to help.

Cheers. a_man_alone (talk) 09:54, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, the TW refers to Twinkle. A little add-on for wikipedia, see WP:TW. Really useful for quickly getting rid of vandalism etc, or raising WP:AFDs. --Oscarthecat (talk) 18:22, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Cheers - I'll look into it. -- a_man_alone (talk) 02:29, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Panda Kitchen deletion

Just wondering... I am attempting to build a page that is objective, factual and verifiable that, in my opinion, is no more advertising than other searchable companies placed on Wikipedia. I would like to know where I went wrong on this or what is considered unambiguos advertising so that I may alter page as needed.

Raul Lopez (talk) 20:22, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, it appears to have been removed for two reasons. The first was a possible copyright violation (copy+pasted from another site?) and the second was that it appeared to merely be an advertisement, asserting no notability of the company. There's some good guidance at WP:CORP if you want to start there? Kind regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 21:35, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Juggernaut Page

Hi Oscarthecat,

Kindly note the below inaccuracies in the Juggernaut Page -

In the first para, the line "In the HINDU, it is most commonly used as an alternative name for a large articulated lorry." is incorrect. Firstly the sentence "in the HINDU" is wrong. Secondly if the writer means "in India, or in Hinduism, Juggernaut is most commonly used as an alternative name for a large articulated lorry" then it is not factually correct. as an Indian, I was exposed to the word Juggernaut in my English classes. It is in no way in colloquial usage and when used by Indians speaking in English, the meaning of the word is the same as in any other English speaking nation - it's used to describe an unstoppable force

Deletion of KorKor page

Hi there,

I tried to post my first article about Kordia Korkor the other day. I did research to make sure it met all the guidelines and established criteria. From searching for other similar articles, I was sure that the content was fine - as i was writing about a new piece of hardware from a huge, state-owned tecommunications company in New Zealand: Kordia. As I'm new to this, I was trying to write an informative article about this, much like the Telecom XT Mobile Network one, or the Google HTC Dream Phone. Surely if those articles are allowed, then mine should not have been deleted. Especially since I found an article on the parent company Kordia.
When it was deleted, I couldn't figure out how to get in touch with you! (It's pretty tricky!) So I re-posted it, after making some edits (I removed a couple of sentences which might have been read as subjective). Can the article please be 'unprotected' and put live again? Do let me know if there is any editing that needs to be done in order for it to meet guidelines.

Thank you, Salhew (talk) 23:38, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, worth taking a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Telecommunications#Guidelines_for_authoring_articles and recreating the article in your userspace (e.g. User:Salhew/KorKor), get feedback from people on the Telecommunications project (Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Telecommunications), and then post it at KorKor. Hope this helps. --Oscarthecat (talk) 08:32, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Harkovast page

Hello Oscarthecat,

I would like to argue that harkovast is notable on the basis that it is more popular than another similar comic that has it's own article. Namely Devia another anthropomorphic comic that appears on the [web-comic list]http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/p/11855/DEVIA if you take a moment to compare [Harkovast]http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/p/13834/Harkovast and devia you will notice that devia gets less hits per month and is of a far lower ranking on the web-comics list and yet [Devia]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devia has it's own article and harkovast does not.

Hoping you will consider this, -- Exodus500 (talk) 13:55, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, could you take a look at Wikipedia:WEB and see whether it meets the criteria listed? I'm reluctant to weigh the notability of this site against others which do have articles (see WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS), so would rather concentrate on the notability criteria itself. Hope this helps. --Oscarthecat (talk) 14:04, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Hello again Oscarthecat, You make a very fair point and your links were indeed helpful, i was wondering if another wikiarticle may suffice in meeting the citeria as one does exist for harkovast and the reason for notability given on that site was as follows "The comic is notable for being draw and coloured largely by hand, using pens and coloured pencils." here is a link to the wikifur article for [Harkovast]http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/Harkovast regards Exodus500 (talk) 14:24, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi - appreciate that it's unusual and notable in its own way as you point out. But it doesn't meet wikipedia's criteria for inclusion as a webcomic. If you can make the article meet the criteria at WP:WEB, as below, it'll be suitable for inclusion on wikipedia.
  1. The content itself has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the site itself. This criterion includes reliable published works in all forms, such as newspaper and magazine articles, books, television documentaries, websites, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations.[1] except for the following:
    • Media re-prints of press releases and advertising for the content or site.[2]
    • Trivial coverage, such as (1) newspaper articles that simply report the Internet address, (2) newspaper articles that simply report the times at which such content is updated or made available, (3) a brief summary of the nature of the content or the publication of Internet addresses and site or (4) content descriptions in Internet directories or online stores.
  2. The website or content has won a well-known and independent award from either a publication or organization.[3]
  3. The content is distributed via a medium which is both respected and independent of the creators, either through an online newspaper or magazine, an online publisher, or an online broadcaster;[4] except for trivial distribution including content being hosted on sites without editorial oversight (such as YouTube, MySpace, GeoCities, Newgrounds, personal blogs, etc.).
If you don't agree with this, or want some advice from people more aware of the webcomic criteria on wikipedia, you might want to post a request for help/advice on Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(web). Hope this helps. --Oscarthecat (talk) 14:37, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of StrategiCom Page

Hi there Oscar,

I noticed that the StrategiCom wiki entry has been blocked. Any way you can unblock it and provide some pointers on how I can contribute to the article?

By the way, I have read WP:CORP and all related guidelines on posting the article (such as advertising and promotion) so that it would not be biased or offensive in any way.

Many thanks! --XNicklex (talk) 04:46, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, it's had to be deleted on four separate occasions. I hope the content will be significantly different from the previous incarnations. It's now unprotected as requested. Regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 10:53, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks Oscar. Will definitely ensure that the content is significantly different from the previous incarnations and inline with Wikipedia's policies. Appreciate your help in vetting the content once I have developed it. Cheers. --XNicklex (talk) 07:01, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Oscar,

Hope this message finds you well.

I have uploaded the main information for the StrategiCom's wiki page onto my Sandbox. Will be adding the relevant references shortly. In the meantime, appreciate if you could assist in assessing the content for suitability of posting it on Wikipedia.

Cheers! XNicklex (talk) 08:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi - it's certainly improved, but really does need those references. Quoting what notable sources have said about the company help assert the company's notability and strengthen claims made. --Oscarthecat (talk) 19:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Oscar,

Thank you very much for spending valuable time helping me to copy vet the page.

Further to your comments, I have made the necessary amendments. Could you see if this is more appropriate?

If it is, appreciate if you could remove those warning notices on StrategiCom's wikipedia page.

Many thanks! XNicklex (talk) 04:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Space-Time Insight Page

Hey,

I'm interning for this company and they told me to make a wikipedia page for them. What is the proper way for me to get permission from them to copy substance from their website? My boss told me verbatim to just copy the executives' information from the website.

Thanks, Akum Akumgill (talk) 22:23, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi. There's some really good info at WP:CORP which helps with this. Mainly a case of finding reliable third party sources which reference the company and prove its notability. A blatant copy+paste from another site is generally frowned on, whether it's copyrighted or not. Hope this helps, let me know if any more info needed. --Oscarthecat (talk) 15:47, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey again Oscar,

The only things that I copied are the qualifications of the people (their history working at different firms and their successes there) and a short blurb about the articles. Everything else was handwritten or paraphrased at minimum. I think this is such an insignificant copy/paste that it shouldn't result in the whole page being pulled down. Would it still be unacceptable if I put those sections in quotation marks or do I need to rewrite them.

Thanks for the speedy and useful reply, Akum Akumgill (talk) 19:40, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Richard O'Barry Page

I'd like to know why you deleted Richard O'Barry's page? The bio on the page was written by Ric O'Barry and given to me to post here. It was also given to the team for "The Cove" movie. How is it plagiarism if the same person authored both pages?

Londonrick (talk) 05:59, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, this page has been deleted many times in the past too. As it stood, it was a blatant copyright infringement from the Ric O'Barry page. What's to say Richard did give permission to host the page on wikipedia? Far better to start from scratch rather than just copy+pasting from another website. Hope this helps. Regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 17:49, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Cake Roll'd Page

I think that it was unnessecary to delete my page about Cake Rolling. I beleive cake Rolling is a soon to be internet phenomenon if we give it the push it needs and a page on wikipedia is exactly what it needs. I find it unfair that Rick Rolling gets a wikipedia page and Cake rolling does not. Please consider the reinstatement of my page about Cake Rolling —Preceding unsigned comment added by KieranBieran1025 (talkcontribs) 08:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

You wrote "The term is not very well known as of yet.". Retry when it is well known. --Oscarthecat (talk) 18:32, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Just because Oscarthecat has not heard of someone or something does not mean that it is significant. A page regarding Cake Rolling should NOT have been deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Devanhcrow (talkcontribs) 21:21, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Appreciate you taking the time from editing your article that I proposed for deletion earlier to help out with this debate. If you can spot some sources which help confirm that Cake Rolling is WP:NOTABLE it would be much appreciated. Best regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 21:25, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Real Intent, Inc.

Hi There - I think your deletion of this article was incorrect, both because I have asked numerous admins for guidance and followed wikipedia's directions for neutral content and because the context of the article is similar to another company page who has not been deleted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpringSoft - I do not feel the Real Intent, Inc. page is a G11 candidate - because the nature of the article is a definition not an advertisement or promotion. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kswenson77 (talkcontribs) 19:53, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Wellspring Camps

Hi Oscar and Happy Memorial Day to you! Any word what I need to do to have the tags removed from the Wellspring Camps page? Thanks!

LindaBakerBrown (talk) 19:50, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi - we've had no further comments despite placing it for discussion, so if you feel the tags are unwarranted, you might want to remove them. I won't reinstate them, they concerns I had have been addressed. You probably want to have a chat with the person who placed it for PROD deletion though, see if their concerns can be addressed, so that the proposal for deletion is removed. Regards, -0Oscarthecat (talk) 20:47, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Oscar. I'm working on the Wellspring Camps page. As I mentioned, it's my first page and I'm trying to feel my way around the rules here (and learn HTML). I've changed the reference list considerably. Genuinely not trying to make it sound like an ad. Any feedback on what I need to do to have the "ad" "tone" "copy/pasted" and "citation" tags removed? As I've learned, removing them yourself doesn't fly here. =) Thanks for any feedback you can give LindaBakerBrown (talk) 15:57, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Linda. It's certainly much improved now. I've posted a request for comments on the article at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/RFCecon/manual, lets see if we can get some thoughts on whether it still warrants the tags, or whether the article's tone is just about right now. Comparison of Internet Relay Chat networks

Please restore Comparison of Internet Relay Chat networks so the editor can continue building this article. Thanks. Tothwolf (talk) 07:06, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Do you realise the only content was Coming soon. I am still creating this page. a large comparison of most IRC networks will be here very soon :-) Eckstasy (talk) 05:46, 9 April 2009 (UTC) ? As such, hardly seems worth restoring to me. --Oscarthecat (talk) 21:21, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
No, I wasn't aware of that when I left a comment here. Killiondude later mentioned the same thing. Could you perhaps userify the article for the editor and leave him a note on his talk page? He was trying to set up links and such before writing the article, which of course is somewhat backwards from the norm but he was trying and I think the Killiondude immediately tagging the article (even if well intentioned) with a CSD template while the editor was trying to write it will only cause an inexperienced well meaning editor to contribute less. Hi - Can you help me get a page up about Louis Abolafia? He is mentioned in the page titled "Exotic Erotic Ball", and he was mentioned in the May 13, 1967 issue of The New Yorker, "Talk of the Town" section. The New Yorker states he was the U.S.'s first openly declared presidential candidate for 1968. User:MikeOtown —Preceding undated comment added 07:52, 12 April 2009 (UTC).

Sure. Perhaps if you create a page at User:MikeOtown/Louis Abolafia with sources and containing some details of notability, I'll take a look and once it's looking good I'll move it over to the proper place. Type Attack

There are a number of games that were produced by a company named Sirius Software. Sirius Software has its own Wikipedia article, and therein is listed the various games produced by that company. Many of those games therein listed have their own Wikipedia articles. Type Attack was not one of them, and the origin of this game I know very well, as the primary author James R. Hauser was my mentor when he (and with help from me) wrote that game. The point of the link to Space Invaders perhaps should be located lower in the article, instead of being excised. What are your thoughts? William R. Buckley (talk) 15:32, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, there's a plethora of games inspired by Space Invaders. What I couldn't see was what made Type Attack particularly notable. We get this all the time on the Elite page too, with lots of people adding references to relatively unknown games there. Is Type Attack a widely known and respected game, that I've just missed? Thanks, --Oscarthecat (talk) 10:38, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes, it is. Indeed, the Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor game includes what it calls a "letter fall" motif that was first used in Type Attack. Basically, the idea was stolen by the Mavis Beacon people, without giving due recognition to the original expression. Jim and I did a number of other works together, the most notable being the Apple Worm, which does have its own Wikipedia article. We also published together the paper Simple Worms, which is found in the November 1986 issue of the now defunct magazine Call-A.P.P.L.E., which was the flagship publication of the Apple Puget-Sound Program Library Exchange. Given that other Sirius Software games are represented in Wikipedia by their own articles, it seems reasonable to have a Type Attack article, as well. Of course, I am also battling deletion of the Type Attack article. William R. Buckley (talk) 16:36, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh well, if the Type Attack article survives its prod status, then there must be some notability to it. Good for you, for declaring your interest, but do rather think there remains a significant WP:COI here though. --Oscarthecat (talk) 18:03, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
What I do in creating new articles is to post the facts as I know them. My hope is that other editors will take the start I give, and provide such other detail as will reduce the COI, if any indeed exists. I contend that what is in the article is not COI. I don't write about "me"; I write about the attendant details, even if I might be involved, such as by name. If others want to remove the connection between Jim Hauser and myself, they are free to so do. No complaint from me will ensue. Thanks for reading, and giving my comments your kind consideration. Thanks for moving the article to mainspace! Cunard (talk) 07:42, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I have just put a {{db-inc}} tag on this article about a newly formed company; only then did I see in the history that you had PRODded it and the author had de-PRODded. I wasn't intending to dispute your decision to PROD; it seemed to me a clear "no indication of importance or significance." If you prefer, I will take it to AfD.

Sure, not a problem. Article didn't many any decent claims to notability. --Oscarthecat (talk) 17:35, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Also, re Pain Clinic (Band), where you wrote "speedy or afd, not both" - I wasn't intending to pursue this with you, but while I'm here: is there any reason why an article at AfD which clearly meets the criteria for a speedy should not be speedied? The relevant bit of WP:DEL seems to be: "Pages that meet the criteria for speedy deletion can be deleted regardless of other circumstances. If a page on a deletion debate is speedied, the debate is closed.", and I have seen this done several times before. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 09:25, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Whell, if it's in the AfD process, then it needs the AfD process closing, rather than the AfD pages remaining but the article having been deleted. The Wikipedia:Deletion_process#Non-administrators_closing_discussions covers this quite well. In this case, I've often taken the approach that once it's in AfD, keep it there, let a few people propose a speedy delete on the AfD page, and let an admin delete the page and close the discussion. Don't have any problems with this article getting zapped of course, it was pretty non-notable. Hope this helps, --Oscarthecat (talk) 17:35, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Understood, thanks. JohnCD (talk) 21:48, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Empire Rising

Hi, U deleted a page i was creating, could u please tell me why this happened? thanks Mate.. Higherground —Preceding unsigned comment added by Higherground.music (talkcontribs) 15:23, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, the text on the page was as below. It didn't meet the notability criteria for wikipedia articles on bands, see WP:BAND. If you can recreate it with the notability established, such as by citing some albums or coverage in the media, go for it. It would have been better for someone with no conflict of interest (see Wikipedia:COI#Promotional_article_production_on_behalf_of_clients to create the article, ideally. Regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 15:36, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Empire Rising is a 5 piece Australia Hip Hop/Electro/Rock band that formed in late 2005. The bands current live line-up is, Daniel Morris (Vocals + Keyboards)Chris Koro (Vocals) Lewis Ingham (Guitar + Vocals) Ben Saurine (Bass) Pat Thoms (Drums) & have frequant guest musicians, Ali Chisham (Vocals + Keyboards) Sarah Misford (Vocals) perform live & in the studio.

Empire Rising started as Rezonate sometime around 2002 when school friends, Lewi, Morris & Koro enlisted the help of Pat Thoms & Ben Saurine to perform at a school talent show. Dane O'brien who was also a school friend of the boys.

The Boys met Pat & Ben through Koro's sister and instantly formed a strong bond through music. Pat & Ben were writing for there band JOVA at the time & Morris although only 16 was an acouplised DJ, with Lewis & Koro learning guitar.

The 3 boys were amazed at demo tapes for Jova & started writing themselves, Pat & Ben agreed to start Rezonate as a side project & would meet up with the boys every few months to jam.

Around 2004 The boys started writing more hip hop based music under the name Ninth Division, with Morris programming beats, koro & lewis playing the guitar parts & the 3 of them writing lyrics & performing Vocals.

Deletion of Return home

Hi there. I think your deletion of this article was incorrect, both because I had previously declined speedy deletion and because the context of the article was clear (about a movie with this title and plot elements) and thus it was not a A1 candidate. Regards SoWhy 19:45, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Fair point, I shouldn't have speedied a PROD tagged article. I've restored it and popped a few tags on there, let's see if folk can improve on it. Regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 02:55, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of article

So you did not even bother to answer on the talk page. "Serves no purpose but to disparage or threaten its subject or someone else" is not correct - the article describes a notable incident that created a lot of press, and was sourced with reliable sources (Reuters, etc.) Offliner (talk) 05:56, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree, the criteria for deletion was not met. Please provide a reasoning to deletion of page without consideration of the "hang on" tag. ZooPro (talk) 05:59, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

A page solely existing to describe an individual as a fucking lunatic is an attack page. So it met the deletion criteria. If this was a notable incident then an entry in the individual's bio, referencing the incident, might be more acceptable. --Oscarthecat (talk) 06:13, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree that the deletion of the article was unwarranted according to the keep consensus established for Putinjugend. Why hasn't an admin speedily deleted that one? PasswordUsername (talk) 08:33, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

It is not the article that i am questioning, i also feel after some thought that it would be better as a entry on the individuals bio, i am more concerned with the fact that policy was not adhered to and the article was deleted through a speedy delete when it did not fit the criteria. discussion may have been a better option. The "hang on" tag also bothered me as it gives the user who created the page an option to edit or form a consensus and this was ignored, i am not a person who gives personal attacks and we are all human and make mistakes and forget stuff. I am simply giving a gentle reminder to remember the policy and try and stick to it. Regards ZooPro (talk) 14:05, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

The "hangon" tag still permits a speedy delete if it unquestionably meets the speedy deletion criteria, "Note that this request is not binding, and the page may still be deleted if the page unquestionably meets the speedy deletion criteria", so that's why I removed it. I'll endeavour to engage on the talk page in future though. --Oscarthecat (talk) 17:42, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Unmasked: two confidential interviews with Hitler in 1931

Hi, you assigned the above article a cleanup tag, thanks for the pointer. When you have time can you take a look and see if it can now be removed. What is the procedure with removing tags? Can only admis do that or is it up to individual editors to make a judgement call? Cheers. --Davidbeare (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi - just remove the tags if you think it's no longer an issue. I've had a stab at cleaning up the article too. Regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 21:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Hey many thanks that's cool. I had a good look at the wikipedia style guides and then promptly forgot them in my childish desire to 'get the article initiated'. Any more pointers for me to give this article a good birth before I get bored with it (a personality defect) would be appeciated.--Davidbeare (talk) 22:16, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Question

Hi, Oscarthecat. Just wondering – given your speedy delete of the article Fucking lunatic – do you think that Putinjugend (ie, an article on a pejorative applied against pro-Putin youth groups) is an attack page? Thanks, PasswordUsername (talk) 03:57, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it warrants its own article. Perhaps a mention on Putin's page, but nothing more. Have you considered starting a WP:AFD for the article? --Oscarthecat (talk) 08:02, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
There is a (mostly non-Russian) group of certain editors with - shall we say - a vested political interest in maintaining it. It's already been up for curious AFD two times, one keep and one no consensus – with "bloc voting" on both incidents. PasswordUsername (talk) 08:11, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Attack pages

I think these are attack pages also: Macacawitz and Bongo from Congo. PasswordUsername (talk) 00:17, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

I see. So, that is why you just labeled all US presidents slave drivers? So much for neutrality.Biophys (talk) 02:48, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Placing US presidents into a fitting historical category Category:Slave owners is considered equivalent to making attack pages? What's the particular wrong in making a category like Category:Slave owners to fit Category:Slaves? Didn't realize I'd added George Bush and Ronald Reagan to that list. PasswordUsername (talk) 11:51, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestions. They seem ideal candidates for a merge+redirect, as doesn't seem notable enough to have its own article, particularly as they're so short. --Oscarthecat (talk) 16:21, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion Castlevania Next-Gen

Hi, i saw you wanted to delete Castlevania Next-Gen.. Please take that into reconsideration, the game has very little information on it, and over time others can edit it..i created it so there was an article on it..since there was none on any wiki! Also..take a look at Castlevania: Lords of Shadows, its just as "bad" as my article —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grantsaylor1995 (talkcontribs) 07:11, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Sure, will do. Sometimes articles on games get created a little early, and just end up as speculation without any reliable sources. I definitely didn't want to speedy delete it but thought AfD was the place to get some discussion of whether it's worth keeping. --Oscarthecat (talk) 07:14, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, please look at the article now..more information has been added (images, sources) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grantsaylor1995 (talkcontribs) 07:36, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, definitely improved, but I think it's a little early for the article to be honest, perhaps better to develop it in your own userspace. Your line "Very little information has been released about this game." sums up the current situation pretty accurately. --Oscarthecat (talk) 18:29, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion Shuffle Master Inc.

Instead of marking the article for speedy deletion why don't you add some information? I put some more information and it was deleted for following corporate fiscal report too closely. Some people are so lazy.Pacomartin (talk) 14:47, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, the company just doesn't appear to be notable, please take a look at WP:CORP there's some great guidelines there. --17:10, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

The article had been prodded and deprodded once already - it needs taking to AfD if it is going to be deleted. Fences and windows (talk) 00:09, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I hadn't seen that on the edit history. I've raised an AfD for it now. --Oscarthecat (talk) 06:42, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Regarding my speedy deletion, please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam#forex. - Dank (push to talk) 21:20, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Good : all it needs now is some sources to be cited, to establish its notability alongside the others. Thanks, --Oscarthecat (talk) 06:00, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Notre Dame Fighting Irish football future schedule

Notre Dame future scheduling is definitely notable. Although the article is currently brief, it will be expanded significantly immediately. Did you know that Notre Dame and Michigan recently agreed to extend their series through the year 2031? Furthermore, Notre Dame's desire to play at the new Yankee Stadium was reported nationally. The article will also examine the university's decision to play 7 home games, 1 neutral site game, and 4 true road games each season. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pgp688 (talkcontribs) 06:09, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I wondered if the team itself is more notable than its future schedule. Seemed the wrong way around, surely the team ought to have an article first? --Oscarthecat (talk) 20:44, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't understand. Are you talking about Notre Dame Fighting Irish football? --Pgp688 (talk) 03:37, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

EP's

Hi The EP's are relevant as musicians as they are listed in the book " Who's who of Australian Rock ! fifth edition compliled by Chris Spencer,Zbig Nowara and Paul McHenry which lists the ep's 7" single "SECRET LOVE " released in 1982—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dcgs1234 (talkcontribs)

I see. Probably a good idea for you to add relevant details of their notability to the article, to avoid it getting deleted. --Oscarthecat (talk) 12:26, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Out of interest, which of the twelve criteria at WP:BAND do they meet? --Oscarthecat (talk) 12:27, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Oscar.

I believe FedEx Trade Networks to be relevant. Certainly, it is short but I am hopeful that myself and others can flesh it out over the near-term. It is open for discussion though. Jwoj2626 (talk) 22:42, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Appreciate any thoughts you've got on its relevance at the AfD discussion page if possible. --Oscarthecat (talk) 18:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I note that you deleted a backlink here. It would have been better to delete the whole line (now done). I don't know whether TW would help you to do that; if not, maybe suggest an enhancement? - Fayenatic (talk) 12:40, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Fayenatic. It's an interesting idea. Before I add it to the enhancement page, any thoughts on how TW could (programatically) determine whether an unlink or a line removal would be appropriate? --Oscarthecat (talk) 18:49, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
No, it would have to be the user's decision. I don't know enough about TW to know how such options could be incorporated. - Fayenatic (talk) 22:06, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
I would not support having such an option in TW. Articles are often deleted for lack of sources or other reasons that do not prevent recreation of the article. Such an option in TW to remove all backlinks would be too easy to misuse and abuse and I have no doubt in my mind that is exactly what would happen. --Tothwolf (talk) 14:20, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough. Case closed, as regards TW. In the case of obvious vanity edits like the one linked above, editors can no doubt remove the line manually. - Fayenatic (talk) 19:11, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

It would save time and discussion if you would kindly state at the AFD that you withdraw your AFD nomination. Would you please?

I protest against your high-handed one-sided decision to delete article stub about this person. It's quite obvious you are not knowledgeable about history, nor bothered to take a look at anything which linked (directly or via a redirect) to said article - for example, that the person was and is in list of missing articles about encyclopedic persons. You should learn that the guiy was a ruling count of Castile, and such rulers are deemed encyclopedic. You should have improved trhe article, or tagged it, but no, you decided to delete it outright. Now, your deed would in all likelihood mean it will be difficult to get the person ever to have an article, which is stupid. In other words, you did not think about consequences of what you did. 82.181.239.182 (talk) 19:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Sorry you feel that way, but as the article consisted of the single line "son of Nuno Rasura" it didn't establish any notability and therefore was suitable for speedy deletion. If you want to recreate it and add some decent detail and notability information about the individual, go for it. And please adopt a more civil tongue in future, per WP:CIVIL. Kind regards, --Oscarthecat (talk) 20:51, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

I find it surprising that you were unable to catch the historical role of this ruler, although there were links available.

Already the link pointing to Nuno rasura, included a mention that this son of his was ruling count of Castile.

Such unwillingness to actually read, does not fit to encyclopedia work.

Misuse of speedy deletion, I think. There are less intrusive procedures for checking the notability of the person - and I see you obviously chose the most intrusive and high-handed one.

It is quite well that you now feel sorry. However, you should feel sorry about what stupidity you did and caused - and you should correct those bad doings of yourself, not expect others to tidy after you and messes you caused. There are people who expect their messes to be cleaned, corrected by others - and then there's those good people who try to correct the mistakes they made. We will see whether you ever will do the latter.

When speaking to you, I do not see any reason for adopting any 'civil tongue', whatever are your wishes to gloss over the misuses and incompetences clearly shown. 82.181.239.182 (talk) 22:25, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

We're not getting anywhere here. Article wasn't notable in its state, it got deleted. Job done. --Oscarthecat (talk) 06:54, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Instead of spending your time insulting Oscarthecat, why don't you just re-create the article with some worthwhile content and citations? - Fayenatic (talk) 19:08, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Gizmondo 2

Hi. I just wanted to say that Gizmondo 2 has a lot of information now, and more will be added soon. You can tell them to redirect Gizmondo (brand) to Gizmondo if it will still have too light information. But remember, I am improving Gizmondo 2 a lot that I believe later you will say to keep Gizmondo 2. --80.41.102.229 (talk) 19:03, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Only just had chance to look at it. Looks like someone's gone the redirect route already. I guess once it's out or almost out, it'll get its own article. Thanks, --Oscarthecat (talk) 18:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I have nominated NetSPI, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NetSPI (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Oscarthecat (talk) 20:32, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Still unsure

Thank you for your notification of deletion of the first article i submitted to Wiki, just one question though. What deems a company to be notable? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Safcblogger (talkcontribs) 10:19, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, it's notable if it meets the criteria at Wikipedia:CORP#Primary_criteria, primarily "A company, corporation, organization, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject.". Hope this helps. --Oscarthecat (talk) 10:23, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Ok, i agree with all of that and as such and as mentioned within the submitted article would any of these secondary sources which mention the the CEO of the parent brand of which Low Cost Sunshine is a division of meet the criteria;

http://www.travelweekly.co.uk/travelhub/media/power40/john-hays-managing-director-hays-travel-1409.aspx http://www.haystravel.co.uk/press.phtml#anchor1252 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Safcblogger (talkcontribs) 10:29, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, the first link doesn't really say much, very short, very basic. The second one isn't suitable as it's on the company's own website. What you really need is some coverage of the company in somewhere independent of the company. The Thomas Cook is ok, it talks about the company's history and includes some references, rather than just saying "we sell cheap flights" etc. Hope this helps. --Oscarthecat (talk) 10:36, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

So how do i recover my work to amend my contribution to be more appropriate? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Safcblogger (talkcontribs) 10:40, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

oops, i did it again, while still new to this form of editing admittedly i may make a few mistakes, but i am a little put off to add further contributions for fear of wasting hours of my time. In all seriousness though how do i recover the page that has been deleted to edit it to be more in keeping with the guidelines as set out?

--Safcblogger (talk) 10:56, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Whats your problem? - Wikipedia is an encyclopedia not a dictatorship. If your going to argue that BMX bikes are not famous enough in popular culture to have its own wikipedia page then that is ludicrous. Also I know its a stub but a millions of wikipedia pages are started in that way. In my eyes you are trying to draw attention to BMX Motocross like you are in charge of its PR or something. --Farmer21 10:32, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, no problem here. The article wasn't even marked as a stub, the content was merely "A BMX Bike or BMX is the name of a popular bicycle which is used for both casual use and sport.History BMX were developed in conjunction with the motocross sport.". Didn't seen to add anything to what was already in the main article, so did a redir. That's often the approach used if an article doesn't express much more than the main article itself. Will keep an eye on the article to see if it can be expanded though, and will try to expand it myself too. --Oscarthecat (talk) 16:01, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Matthew Timmons page

The page for Matthew Timmons that was repeatedly created would instead be more suitable as a redirect for Matthew Timmons (actor). I'll check back if you have any opinion on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChrstphrChvz (talkcontribs) 20:05, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

I see it's already been setup as a redirect, thanks. --Oscarthecat (talk) 21:35, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes I was able to set up the redir on Matthew timmons, without the capital T in Timmons. The article with the capital T is the additional redirect I was interested in setting up. --ChrstphrChvz (talkcontribs) 22:09, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Ahh, I see. If I setup such a redirect it would be swiftly removed by another editor, as it would be a redundant redir. Anyone punching in a search for Matthew Timmons would automatically get redirected anyway. --Oscarthecat (talk) 22:25, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

I see your point, yet I arrived at this problem where in the case of most freelinks where it may be easy for one to put a custom title to it (Matthew Timmons) and it redirects to Matthew Timmons (actor), yet it may be easier just to establish the redirect. As it is, most internal links for this person don't exist yet in the articles he is mentioned in. But thanks for that view on this. ChrstphrChvz (talk) 04:44, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Skool Daze

In the Skool Daze article, I inserted the statement about Back to Skool that the "feature" whereby other kids are unable to push Eric out of his chair seems unintentional (i.e. is a bug), based on an examination of the code. Just wondering what kind of source/citation for this would be satisfactory - besides a reproduction of the relevant code (which I could provide, but probably doesn't belong in the article itself). --Phygment (talk) 18:57, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for improving the article. Are you the only person (original research?) to come to this conclusion about the bug, or have some reliable sources observed this too? --Oscarthecat (talk) 19:46, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm the only person I know who has come to this conclusion, though the evidence could be checked by anyone competent in ZX Spectrum programming. In any case, I'm not sure who could both confirm this particular observation and be regarded as a "reliable, third-party source", so perhaps the observation fails the encyclopedia test, regardless of its truth value. --Phygment (talk) 20:25, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

AutoBlock on User:Ahunt

Hi, it seems you have blocked my account as a "Vandalism only account". I think you find if you check my contribution records you will find that I am an editor with over 21,000 edits since 2005 in the middle of a large project on WikiProject Aircraft. I am assuming that this block was as a result of creating redirect pages from www.ulparts.com and www.ppccanopies.com to a new article I just finished writing on an aircraft manufacturer Aircraft Sales and Parts. While at first blush this may look odd, if you read the article you will see that both those redirects are business names (I don't pick them) for legally registered subsidiaries of Aircraft Sales and Parts. I created the redirects for all four of the ASAP subsideries, as you can see.

Since this block is obvioulsy an error, can you please unblock me? - Ahunt (talk) 20:59, 10 August 2009 (UTC) also User:Ahunt

Yes, my mistake. I did unblock it at the time, will go make sure it's ok now, apologies. --Oscarthecat (talk) 21:08, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for fixing this. I think the problem was that the legal names (and not just the website URLs) of two of the subsidiary businesses are www.ulparts.com and www.ppccanopies.com. See http://www.ulparts.com and http://www.ppccanopies.com for confirmation. This makes it kind of hard to write articles about the companies when you get blocked for doing it. But don't worry, I won't recreate the redirects, readers can just do a search instead. - Ahunt (talk) 21:18, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
  1. ^ Examples:
  2. ^ Self-promotion and product placement are not the routes to having an encyclopaedia article. The published works must be someone else writing about the company, corporation, product, or service. (See Wikipedia:Autobiography for the verifiability and neutrality problems that affect material where the subject of the article itself is the source of the material.) The barometer of notability is whether people independent of the subject itself (or of its manufacturer, creator, or vendor) have actually considered the content or site notable enough that they have written and published non-trivial works that focus upon it.
  3. ^ Being nominated for such an award in multiple years may also be considered an indicator of notability.
  4. ^ Content that is distributed by independent online sites will almost certainly satisfy the first criterion. However, this criterion ensures that our coverage of such content will be complete regardless. For example, Ricky Gervais had a podcast distributed by The Guardian. Such distributions should be nontrivial.
