Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Oscarthecat! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 397 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Karan Brar
Hello. I'm curious why you deleted a redirect from Karan Brar to an article on the film Diary of a Wimpy Kid in which he's listed as a cast member, on the basis of his correctly spelled name being an implausible typo. —Largo Plazo (talk) 03:32, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, Karan Brar wasn't notable enough to even get a mention on the article, so it doesn't seem very appropriate to me. If you disagree by all means reinstate the redirect. --Oscarthecat (talk) 20:48, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Crapknowledgy
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mhiji 22:40, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Lunar jetman 4.gif
Thanks for uploading File:Lunar jetman 4.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:33, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
James Shepherd (cornet player) deletion
Hi 'Oscar', hello from Melbourne Australia. I wish to query you about the deletion of the page on James Shepherd, the principal cornet player with the 'Black Dyke Band' (British brass band) in the 1960s and 70s. The page appears to have been deleted on 23-Apr-2007. Although I'm a software developer in real life, I've had trouble navigating the cluttered and confusing pages of Wikipedia users and deletion logs, but I hope I've arrived at the right place to ask about this. You seem to be the first person in time sequence to have deleted the page on James Shepherd.
The last of the three deletion entries record James Shepherd as a "non-notable individual". I claim this is not true, as he is renowned as one of the top virtuoso cornet players of the 20th century. James is pictured in band uniform, standing alone on the front cover of the famous 1970 album 'High Peak for Brass'.
A dead link to the deleted James Shepherd page remains on the Cornet page. I hope you are able to restore the deleted page.
Cheers, Greg — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gfkeogh (talk • contribs) 08:28, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- The deleted page James Shepherd contains nothing regarding the cornet player, instead it's about a high school pupil. Feel free to create a new, relevant article about the cornet player though of course. Sounds like he's a notable individual. --Oscarthecat (talk) 14:07, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview
Dear Oscarthecat,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.206.39 (talk) 03:42, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Carlos Gardel
Hi Oscar,
Thanks for your note. No references were added to my contributions because there was no need to. The original text, the one that was restored to, already inludes those references. There are two theories to Gardel's POB, one is documented, the other not. The sites and documents that reference this work supports the documented theory, only that it's the undocumented one the only one explained in detail. My intent was to show both theories so the reader can weigh the evidence and draw their own conclusions.
Until I can upload the documents directly I would ask that you un-edit the work, or, if you need to remove all work that is backed by blogs, that you remove the current article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zorzaluruguay (talk • contribs) 23:03, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Oscar,
I've just included a few documents that back Gardel's Uruguay theory. One is the charred remains of his passport, for which I only included the piece that shows his POB, a second is a copy of Gardel's argentine ID card that shows his POB to be in Uruguay, and the third is a copy of the 1886 census of the Bordeux region that shows a Charles Gardes (name given to Gardel by french theorists) to have been born in South America. These items have all been obtained from public archives.
My intent is to shed light, with documentation, to the theory that Gardel was in fact born in Uruguay. I hope that these documents are sufficient and meet wikipedia's documentation requirements. I may also include additional documentation as they become available. Also, please note that the referencs in the original article are referenced by private blogs, which as you noted do not constitute citations, hence I ask that you remove them from the article and ask the original writer to provide documentation to their work.
Please advise before re-editing this work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zorzaluruguay (talk • contribs) 00:16, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. Given there is a dispute generally over his date of birth and place of birth, I initially figured having a reference supporting the year would help. Now that there's some good refs that's a great help. --Oscarthecat (talk) 08:28, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
Hi Oscar,
Sorry but the Carlos Gardel edits I wanted to put through caused a silly back and forwards with another editor who removed my sources and warned me that any additional source used by me could be removed by wikipedia. My attemps have always been to enlighten but I might have not be understanding the spirit behind publishing in wikipedia so I asked this item to be resolved in conflict resolution, and had to include you.

This article on Maratha Empire,Dogra and Sikh Empire are completely baseless and written with biased mind, has false information. Recent Godhra riots,Assam violence,Babri Masjid need to be mentioned please add them, I am removing Sikh ,maratha,Dogra persecution. There is no evidence of destruction of mosques or muslim persecution happeneed at that time. I have added Godhra riots, Babri masjid. Please expand them — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.200.130.55 (talk)
"The persecution of Muslims started in late 1600s and early 1700s when Hindu Maratha Empire started Plundering the Muslim Mughal Empire. Shivaji declared holy war against Muslim Mughal Empire of India and declared Hindu Swarajya(Independent Hindu Kingdom). Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb though tried for many years to suppress the Hindu Revolt however he failed to do so, in the end Maratha Empire power remained intact after 27 year wars which Hindu Maratha fought from Shivaji death(1680) to 1707(Aurangzeb Death).[82] For 27 years Aurangzeb fought Maratha Armies in Deccan but to no avail with Aurangzeb failure to defeat Marathas ended the great Mughal Empire. Maratha Commander in chief Santaji Ghorpade remained a terror for Mughals including Aurangzeb. Santaji attacked Aurangzeb camp in 1695 which almost took the Emperor life which was saved by his quick feets as he flee from the tent,.[83] After 1707 Maratha Empire started to dominate the Indian subcontinent whereas Muslim Mughal emperors found it impossible to check the growing power of Hindu Empire. One by one Maratha started plundering Muslim Mughal Empire as well as the Muslim population"
At the end there is a reference, if you check the reference it says people of Mughal empire are plundered not muslims. Mughal empire has vast number of Hindus(in fact Hindus are majority, more than 50%).I can quote many such things in the article. Please recheck the article and verify whether it is coherent with reference.

Your contributed article, Boomers (TV series)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Boomers (TV series). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Grey Mates. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Grey Mates – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Tentinator 06:35, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
