On 6 February 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Les Dés Sont Jetés, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that when he saw the tapestry Les Dés Sont Jetés, Jørn Utzon exclaimed: "See that? Ours will be better!"? You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Les Dés Sont Jetés), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

looks like DYKUpdateBot never credited you for the second article in this hook! for your edification, then. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/they) 19:58, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello No Swan So Fine,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 851 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

June songs

Thank you today for The Tower House, introduced (in 2015): "This article is about a Grade I listed French Gothic Revival style turreted house in Kensington, London, which was built by William Burges, a master Victorian architect. Built between 1875 and 1881, it was the residence of Burges before his death, and he hosted numerous parties at the house. After a period of neglect in the 1960s, it was restored and was purchased in 1972 by Jimmy Page, who has owned it ever since. The house was a real labour of love for Burges and some of the intricate detail he put into it was a fine example of his prowess and talent, not only as an architect, but as a furniture maker and jewel craftsman. Page himself has commented that he's still finding new things in the design work even today, such is the attention to detail. This has been extensively researched by myself, KJP and Gareth and we believe we've written a highly comprehensive article on the subject which does it justice."! - I think you did, and like to see it on my day. - Which song would you give me? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:07, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello No Swan So Fine,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13375 articles, as of 02:00, 24 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello No Swan So Fine,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Morning Swan, hope you are well. I’ve been doing a bit on Queen Anne's Gate, second to Barton Street/Cowley Street, my favourite street in London. Will Smith (introduced inaccuracy)

In reference to your edit of Will Smith, Jada Pinkett did not play any role in G.I. Jane;[1] rather, its lead character was played by Demi Moore, and it was she who shaved her head as part of the role. Pinkett shaved her head because she was suffering from the autoimmune disease alopecia areata, and so the comparison with G.I. Jane was in extremely poor taste. I didn't, but thank you very much. I'm just having a patriotic chow mein. It's almost as fascinating as an earlier rapid cut and paste job I did! No Swan So Fine (talk) 11:42, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
ITN is doing its usual jobsworth thing but I'm continuing to follow developments. I like this post from the US Naval Institute, "In 1945, the crew of USS New York spotted a sphere that they thought might be a Japanese balloon weapon. The captain ordered it shot down but none of the guns could score a hit. Finally, a navigator realized they were attacking Venus." Andrew🐉(talk) 15:43, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
There's a second balloon now and so I've re-opened the nomination at ITN to give it a second wind... Andrew🐉(talk) 14:01, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

Diorama Arts Cooperative

Thankyou for your appreciation of the article Diorama Arts Cooperative. Friends of mine had a fashion company called Slag there from 1984 until the end, so there is a personal involvement. Contacting people who were there in 1976 has been something to remember, as Larry Butler got married there and his first son was born there.

I only used to visit occasionally as I live outside London but it certainly left an impression on me. Various coincidences came to light while researching the article, including one where Jon Keliehor played at a 'faerie fair' in Lyng, Norfolk in 1981 which I was also at that year (aged 15). It was a non-electric fair which suited Jon and his percussion ensemble. Richard Nowell (talk) 17:18, 24 March 2023 (UTC) http://fairsarchive.org/the-fairs/lyng-fair-1981

Very impressive research and social history, I really enjoyed reading it. I was on Peto Place yesterday and intrigued by the architecture. The synchronicity of Wikipedia when I am deep into research constantly delights me as well. No Swan So Fine (talk) 17:23, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
I have a lot more info in emails that can't be cited though. I've put some of Larry's email content on the article's talk page and mentioned Matchbox Theatre and Playspace. Stories like when the Co-op was founded in '76, there was a ceremony named something like "the musicians' welcome". The building had been part of Bedford College Geography dept and all their stuff was left there which the Co-op had to clear out. All the soil samples from around the world were made into a rooftop garden! It was never a squat with Larry being the official caretaker and various therapists working there.I should mention actor Martin Burrows more who became the director when the Co-op was formalised; he was the interface between them and the Crown Estate. I could go on... Richard Nowell (talk) 10:18, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Great British Nuclear

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Great British Nuclear. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Dreichh (talk) 11:14, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Great British Nuclear

Hi there, I noticed you undid the request for speedy deletion of Great British Nuclear. GBN is the new trading name for British Nuclear Fuels Ltd - you are correct that they have different identities but they are legally the same identity. You can find out more on their website, look at the bottom.

I've requested the BNFL article be moved to GBN, and in the meantime GBN should be deleted. Maybe put future edits on the BNFL page for now?

Thanks! Dreichh (talk) 11:37, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi No Swan So Fine! I've finished adding all the works covered in Philip Ward-Jackson's Public Sculpture of the City of London (2003) to the list of public art in the City of London. I count 88 missing items missing an image (out of a total of 390). Does anything there capture your imagination? New pages patrol newsletter

Hello No Swan So Fine,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Notice

The article John MacSween (haggis entrepreneur) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only somewhat significant sources I could find were obituaries.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. popodameron talk 06:20, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Eaton Lodge

I'm also a huge fan of Peter's lists! When I get my books out of boxes, I'll see if the Douglas bio (by Edward Hubbard no less) mentions it. We should be able to work it out by comparing the image (of which you get a much clearer image if you go here, [1]) with the Historic England descriptions. But there are so many listed buildings on that damn Eaton estate. Did the Westminsters have to be quite so wealthy! KJP1 (talk) 15:17, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

I just found it on Google Earth, and it isn't listed on the NHLE map. I did find some interior shots of David Tremlett's work on the hall ... [2]] and [3]. I think I'll write it up and add it to her page. I was swooning over Houghton Hall last week. The contemporary artworks and sculptures they've added really make it shine [4]. Peter's work is incredible. I wish any of us were recognised with OBEs and fellowships etc, he has done an incredible service to future historians. No Swan So Fine (talk) 15:30, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
@KJP1:, to broach another topic close to our hearts.... [5] [6] No Swan So Fine (talk) 15:33, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
A Douglas building on the Eaton Estate that’s not listed. Surprising, but not impossible. Having had some success with the Church of St Helen, Kilnsea, with a lot of help from Prof. David Neave, I tried to get the Old School House, Winchfield listed but HE weren’t having it. An unlisted Burges - the horror! But his broaches are popping up all over the place. Wish I had one. KJP1 (talk) 15:55, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
