One more question

[edit]

Matthew, I have one more begginner question for you after your help on the request for feedback page for my particle on familial DNA searching User:Spu2011. I'm almost done with research and have a few little items to clean up on the draft. If simply editing the page for familial DNA under DNA Profiling looks like the best option, how do I move or edit the page? I'm gathering that I'm not supposed to just delete what is already in the section and paste my work in. "Moving" the page looks like it will create a new page just for my article. Am I wrong? Thanks! Spu2011 (talk) 16:40, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting and pasting a section is kosher, just not deleting and copy-pasting a whole article (since you lose the edit history of a whole page). If you decide replacing a section is the best bet, I advise you to to the Talk page of the destination article, give them a link to your current article and say "I propose to chop out Section X and replace it with my text". Give folks a week or two to react to that, maybe look at the History and find some of the major contributors and let them know of your plans. If consensus supports you, or if a couple weeks go by with no reply/objections, WP:Be bold and splice out/in, but leave a very clear Edit Summary explaining what you did, and mention on Talk as well "as of X date, I did a total replace of Section X from my draft at Userspace/X for the following reasons..." Hope this helps, MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:01, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gracias. That helps a lot. :) Spu2011 (talk) 17:14, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IBS Group Holding Ltd.

[edit]

Dear moderator, you have deleted IBS Group holding page from Wikipedia. By stating that it’s an advertisement, unfortunately I have to disagree with you, Mostly information posted on the Wikipedia page is neutral and talks about the company, IBS Group is big holding which includes more than 7ooo people worldwide. Please take a look at our peers pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wipro ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infosys . I used their pages as a pattern for writing IBS Group Holding Ltd. Page. Please explain me how do our pages differ, and how is that possible that pages which are mentioned above are allowed on Wikipedia.org, and our page is considered Advertisement. I call for your moderate sense and all the professionalism that you have to solve this problem otherwise I’ll ask you to take same actions against our peer companies. Thank you. Thanks for all the help with proper formatting for the article Valor, it would look terrible without the hard work you put into it. It is now up for deletion however. I need users to vote save so they will keep it. Please help.

Guess What?

[edit]

You're not doing any favors here so stop acting like you are. The pronunciation section is needed to help describe how rhyging is spoken. It's an obscure name/word. Also, stop deleting the Boston band Rhyging from being mentioned in this article. The band exists, and it's NOT falling under the category of advertising by merely mentioning it's existence. You try to come off like you're helping but you're really just erasing valuable information there to help teach the public. If you think it "won't be taken seriously" that's your own oppinion. If you're really that concerned about the 'Rhyging page', then maybe you'd like to help by doing a little research and try and add something instead. Until then, stop being a robot. Bless

Knife articles

[edit]

Good work on the knife articles! Let me know if you need any help. I've been considering starting a Wikiproject devoted to cutlery.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 04:08, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matthew,

Major cleanup, is what I'd like to see happen. It looks like you've been doing a great job on that by the way. Even though I'm a long-time collector I've gotten involved with the knife articles mostly by accident. I got involved with Microtech Knives when it was threatened with deletion. The same with the Strider Knives and Ernest Emerson articles. The others through the military project, etc. I got involved with the Sebenza and Spyderco pieces through them being linked to other articles. I guess my thought is to "improve what is already there" before creating new ones.

My primary areas of knowledge are with custom tacticals (there is no Tactical Knife article, yet...someday, though), US military blades and blade steels. As far as contributing to articles, I can do the sourcing and contribute somewhat to improving the prose. I mostly write about topics concerning reptiles, guns, and the Catholic Church.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 18:04, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Washtub bass

[edit]

The washtub bass isn't always a monochord. Take a look through some washtub bass sites (or even our own article) and you'll see that they sometimes have more than one string. Badagnani (talk) 07:18, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We can work on it. Some of the remaining "problem" instruments are ones that could be "either this or that," which causes problems. Badagnani (talk) 07:27, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a member of the instruments project and don't follow it closely (though obviously I help out when I see there's a need, as I make and maintain a lot of world instrument articles). The number of instrument articles on WP is getting out of hand and that makes the lists of instruments particularly hard to maintain. Badagnani (talk) 07:34, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, the remaining instruments at Category:String instruments are the hard ones. I think we'll eventually need a Category:Lira family instruments for the remaining Renaissance/Baroque instruments in that family, but some of the other very obscure world insts. for which we have no photos and only sketchy descriptions are a bit difficult. Badagnani (talk) 22:44, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also the huqin-like instruments that are not from China (which are from Vietnam, Thailand, etc.) should be in a category; it doesn't seem right to include those under "huqin," as that's a Chinese word. Badagnani (talk) 22:44, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We probably also need a cat for Violin family instruments (so that the viola can have a cat to belong to, along with the violins, cellos, and double basses). Badagnani (talk) 22:50, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bagpipes

[edit]

Many of the bagpipes are very obscure, with little sourcing, and possibly only a handful of people still play them. I think the biggest problem is listing bagpipes that are essentially the same in construction under two or more different names. Another issue is listing instruments that don't have a bag as bagpipes, though one explanation about this is that cultures around the world are often sketchy or inaccurate in their own terminology about bagpipes, using words meaning "flute" or "oboe" to apply to bagpipes, or sometimes to all of these things. Also, some cultures seem to use the exact same name for their double reed shawms (without bag) or cylindrical-bored pipes (without bag) as for their bagpipes. I think it might be good to get photos of all of them and do something with photos like List of pasta or List of chili peppers. Badagnani (talk) 22:23, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Smile!

Arabic bagpipes

[edit]

Those are all good questions. The spelling came from kind folks at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Arab_world. The use of italics for Arabic is something the WPARAB people usually do, just because Arabic displays so small on WP, just as a way of making it more visible. I don't know the answer about the ghaita but you may be right. Arabic ghaita apparently comes from the Gothic "gait," meaning "goat," so probably when the shawm was introduced to Morocco it was called something else, like zamr, and it adopted the (wrong) name ghaita (bagpipe) over time, which had come down into North Africa from Spain. All of this is very hard to source, and the scholars who assert this don't explain how they know this when asked (I've tried). Badagnani (talk) 17:20, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

There are not "zero sources". More. The JSTOR article is particularly good. Badagnani (talk) 20:41, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The stick instrument category

[edit]

I had to undo your sub-category thingy on the megatar site. I didnt do anything to the category of course, even thou i disagree with the name of it. The makers of the Stick, if you know anything about the history of their and later tapping instrument, would probably strongly oppose to calling the megatar a "stick instrument". And they would be very right, IMO. It would be better to have a plain two handed tapping category that then would include earlier two handed tapping instruments like the touchguitar.

Category:Antique instruments

[edit]

Hey there -- If you're interested, the CFR for Category:Antique instruments is probably about to be relisted for further discussion. But it seems that you forgot to post the CFR notice on the category page, so the whole thing would be for naught unless that gets taken care of. And you might also want to respond to some of the comments that have been made in your absence. Regards, Cgingold (talk) 23:41, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bagpipe removals

[edit]

I would move removed text to the talk page so those statements can be evaluated and debunked, if necessary. Some wrong statements that are "out there" (such as the two sculptures found in British digs, that were formerly believed to be representations of bagpipers from the Roman era) can and probably should be debunked in the article. Badagnani (talk) 19:17, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sea Shepherd

[edit]

I have removed the new category "Terrorism in Iceland" from Sea Shepherd. Please be a bit more careful with that kind of thing in future. We can't just add disparaging categorisations to an article without strong reliable sources. Sea Shepherd clearly don't fit any of the common definitions of terrorism, since they commit no violence against people (and don't try to spread terror). Some governments have tried to characterise them as terrorists, but since it should be very hard for a high-profile terror organisation to get a Dutch flag for their ship we can safely assume that this was just rhetorics. If you think otherwise you will need exceptionally strong sources. I am basing this on common sense and WP:V. I will look if there is anything more specific. --Hans Adler (talk) 10:59, 28 April 2008 (UTC) PS: There may not be a policy about this, but Arbcom has ruled about a similar case, see Category talk:Pseudoscience. --Hans Adler (talk) 11:03, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When you moved Terrorism in Iceland to 1986 Hvalur sinkings, a redirect was created. I have started a deletion discussion for this redirect, because it is another case of libel. So far as I know there was never any terrorism in Iceland, and in fact rarely anything very interesting happens there. So it is no wonder part of the media used somewhat extreme language. This is no excuse to describe acts by living people as terrorism when they are not. Being branded as a terrorist, even innocently, can have serious consequences nowadays. I also had to remove the category Category:Terrorism in Iceland from the article for the same reason. I have not removed the category Category:Eco-terrorism, because the word Eco-terrorism has been defined much wider, presumably because otherwise it would describe something virtually non-existent. --Hans Adler (talk) 18:47, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Never made

[edit]

Jervis Bay Nuclear Power Plant was a proposed nuclear power reactor in the Jervis Bay Territory on the south coast of New South Wales. It would have been Australia's first nuclear power plant, and was the only proposal to have received serious consideration as of 2007. Some environmental studies and site works were completed, and two rounds of tenders were called and evaluated, but the Australian government decided not to proceed with the project. so adding it is a bit um - sort giving something to something that never existed in the end perhaps? SatuSuro 05:51, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see you added category Mythology to this non-existent 'Fasta', as the book is a 19th century hoax, I don't think it qualifies as mythology, and have removed the mythology category and added [Category:Religious hoaxes|Religious hoaxes]. Hi Matthew,

I noticed that you suggested that poignard and poniard be merged, but that the note on poignard says that it should be merged into poniard while the note on poniard says that it should be merged to poignard. You may want to decide which title would best represent the concept and change the tag accordingly. It would also be helpful to start a discussion on the appropriate talk page; a merge is unlikely to occur if no reason is given for the merge.

Happy editing,

Pistol categories

[edit]

Stop what you're doing NOW. Did you have project approcal to fragment the categorization? Koalorka (talk) 00:38, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replied on your talk page. Will refrain from moving Semi-Auto Pistol articles purely into "by country" cats. Will stick to simply categorizing into existing forms. However, the Semi-Auto Pistols cat does need a subcategorization complex other than by-country if you don't want them simply in by-country. Otherwise the Semi-Auto page will be hundreds of articles long. Will stick to non-controversial cleanup whilst waiting for your advice on the category matter. I posted the suggestion for other editors, had zero responses. Have been checking in with WP:Firearms and nobody's come in with any opinions on anything. If you have a better idea as to how the Firearms sections should be organized, by all means let me know what the goal is. The current organization is unsatisfactory, so it does no good to simply tell someone to stop what they're doing, and then not tell them what you think would work better. Can you please stop putting the megatar article under your "stick instrument"? The name itself is a violation of a tradmark you put into this article. This is the third time you do this, and the third time i tell you to stop it. This time the stick company people themselves went in and corrected it, as you can see in the history page. Hi MatthewVanitas. Thank you for your work on patrolling pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I just wanted you to inform that I declined to delete Participation (young people), a page that you tagged for speedy deletion without specifying a criterion for speedy deletion because of the following concern: Essays cannot be speedy-deleted as they fall under WP:NOT which in itself are not valid reasons. Reso uke

[edit]

So, have you gotten that resonator uke yet?

I'd love to play with one. I can't even imagine how it would feel. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 22:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, as it turns out, I happened into a music store in Bakersfield and lo and behold there was a dusty Johnson reso uke hanging on the wall. (Same instrument as the Ashbury and the Recording King, I think.) Wife insisted I buy it. I'm in love! It works really well with my band, though I haven't tried it when the rest of the band is amplified yet; but it's so loud it might not need any juicing. Now I crave the chance to try a Really Good resonator uke; how different is a National from a Chinese knockoff? As far as 8-string ukes go, I haven't tried one, but I'm primarily a melodic and finger-picking player, so I don't think they'd be my cuppa tea. Damn, though, those tuners on the Johnson are awful; I'm going to put in some better ones if it turns out I'm sticking with it. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 15:19, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A resonator ukelele, that is quite awesome! Anyhow, come 2010 if you have time, let's try working on the Ghouls IPC ghetto you created. IPC is one of those things WP needs to work out policies/guidelines more, I think. Maybe comprehensive appearances/references could be added to a talk page subpage, where people really interested in that could find it, and then could be added to the article when notability of the reference is established. Reentrant tuning

[edit]

Actually I created the reentrant tuning article before the category, and the category description page links to it. Why not have both? We have categories for the various keys of transposing instruments, for example. Andrewa (talk) 06:01, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why can't we have both? I'd agree that your example of a type of motorcycle brake would be excessive use of categories, but I think Category:Fender Telecaster submodels for example is fine.

I don't see the problem with having articles in large numbers of categories. Andrewa (talk) 19:59, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do we need all these new categories?

[edit]

I noticed you've been doing a lot of recategorising work, and I was just wondering how... necessary some of the new categories could be considered? I mean, Mauser only made a couple of semi-auto handguns (The C96, the HSc, and the Model 1910 & derivatives), which doesn't really seem enough to justify having a [Category:Mauser semi-automatic pistols]. Similarly, there's a [Category:U.S. Fire Arms Mfg. Co.] which deals with the Colt Peacemaker reproductions produced by a company in the US. It just seems like there's a lot of over-categorisation work going on at the moment... Commander Zulu (talk) 01:26, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That makes a little more sense; can I suggest adding some red-links for guns that don't yet have articles so potential editors can see that a category will have more than two or three entries? Having said that, I'm not entirely sure organising by country is the way to go- most handguns these days appear to be American, Chinese, Italian, French, German, Swiss, or Israeli. I can see "handguns by country" categories ending up with a lot of one or two entry-countries, and I'm just not sure how that really helps anyone. Commander Zulu (talk) 01:43, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
An excellent point which is very useful. The big question would be "How to handle licensed production?", though. I mean, lots of countries use the Beretta 92 as their service pistol, and they manufacture their own variant- but it's still a Beretta M92 regardless of whether it's made in Italy, the US, or France, IMHO. Similarly, the Enfield No. 2 Mk I* was produced in limited quantities (c.350) in Australia during WWII; but I wouldn't consider it an "Australian" handgun. The various Lee-Enfield rifles were also produced in several countries, too, and let's not even start on the AK-47, FN-FAL/L1A1 SLR, or M-16. The thing is, if you don't add each country's licensed-produced version of Firearm X, you're going to have random editors adding them anyway, and if you do add them then you're going to have people removing them because "Firearm X is a Country Y design, not Country Z". I can see it being a bit of a headache unless a firm consensus is reached with everyone at WP:MILHIST and WP:GUNS to keep an eye on it... Commander Zulu (talk) 01:55, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I've replied to your question at Noticeboard for India-related topics. Mspraveen (talk) 03:41, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding [[Category:Machine guns of Brazil]] to articles/categories that belong in it.

I blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.

If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{db-author}}.

Polite Request re: New Articles

[edit]

I really appreciate your work bringing the new gun articles over from foreign-language wikis; but can I please respectfully ask you to actually read the articles you're bringing over and see if A) They're necessary? and B) are actually any good? Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer is covered by WP:GUNS#Variants and doesn't need to exist separately; there's no new information in the article and even if there was, the M712 is a C96 variant and doesnt need it's own article. I've redirected it for now, but a lot of the articles you're bringing across are, frankly, not very good at all and need a LOT of work to turn them into something usable. I'm happy to help as best I can, but it doesn't look good for the WP:GUNS or WP:MILHIST project to have lots and lots of badly written Babel-fish translated articles for want of knoweledgeable editors who can clean them up. Commander Zulu (talk) 07:05, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's understandable and I didn't mean to imply you were just dumping the articles. However, things like Bergmann 1896 have almost zero information on them, and there's not a lot in my reference texts either. There are also quite a few of the Soviet guns for which I can find no information, and the articles themselves largely seem to be explanations of how the gun's action functions, which is un-necessary. architecture category removals

[edit]

i notice you've removed "Category: architecture" from a number of articles on my watchlist. You seem to be using edit label "Removing redundant categories, article is already in subcats of those categories" whether or not it is true that the article is in any architecture categories. Could you refine your edit label if you are doing more, please?

I think these all relate to NRHP articles created with Elkman's NRHP infobox creator. There is either a glitch in the generator, or there is fault in the National Register's database for some NRHP entries. I think the infobox generator adds proper categories like "category:colonial revival architecture" or "1850 architecture" in most cases, but if an architecture field is blank or if the built date is blank, the incomplete "architecture" one gets added instead. Not sure exactly what drives it. Anyhow, it would be more helpful if you used a label that suggested to article editors they might want to form better cats using info that might be there in the NRHP infobox. Perhaps "removed vague architecture category, note there may be more precise terms in NRHP infobox". doncram (talk) 22:45, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Various subcategories in African instruments

[edit]

I don't agree with the creation of various subcategories in African instruments, because in Africa there are less instruments than in America, Europe or Asia, and these continents are not subcategorized in "East European musical instruments", etc. --Opus88888 (talk) 14:59, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would be okay with having the comarca page just called Aliste, and another page Aliste (disambiguation) listing the municipalities. An alternative would be to have no disambig page and simply have the list of all the municipalities in the main Aliste comarca article. The only complication is that I think some of the ones that aren't officially called "...de Aliste" may be informally called "...de Aliste" anyway, especially if there are other municipalities elsewhere in Spain with the same name. I'll defer to you on this one. Badagnani (talk) 01:12, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just emailed the guy I sold the pipes to five years back. It's a long shot, but he might still have the set. I believe he also turned a set of his own in the same style, so might have a one-off for pics. It was a really neat concept, too bad it didn't go further. Wish it'd been done with modern affordable/durable materials, since the actual idea (an easy to play/maintain pipe with single reeds in both chanter and drone, pitched in D and able to do Em to cover Celtic music) was a brilliant concept. Guess it was a marketing issue...MatthewVanitas (talk) 08:21, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rubab

[edit]

The difficulties here are that; 1) articles on Sikhs, sarod etc use the word "rebab" or "rabab" but are talking about the "rubab" - all are from an Arab word that means "bowed". Proposed deletion of List of countries with alcohol prohibition

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of countries with alcohol prohibition, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

The list is unnecessary, Prohibition lists countries that have or had alcohol prohibition. If not adelete, then a redirect.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Muslim Thugs

[edit]

Thanks for the revert. This sort of editing, by both Muslims and Sikhs, has been a persistent problem with this page. The following is from the archive discussions for the page:

In the past few days anonymous user 86.135.204.138 has repeatedly deleted references to the existence of Muslim Thugs.
For the record, here is the most relevant excerpt from contemporary records regarding the proportion of Hindu and Muslim Thugs. The source is William Sleeman, Ramaseeana (Calcutta: GH Huttman, 2 vols, 1836) vol.1 p.178; the dialogue is between Sleeman, chief of the Thuggy Department of the East India Company, and his chief informant, a Brahmin Thug named Feringeea, active for nearly 20 years, who had an unparalleled knowledge of the various Thug gangs:
Sleeman: "What is commonly the proportion of Musulmans to Hindoos?"
Feringeea: "In Oude (Avadh) nine-tenths are Musulmans. In the Dooab four-fifths were Hindoos. South of the Narbudda (Narmada) three-fourths Musulmans. In Bundelcund and Saugor one-half were Musulmans. In Rajpootana (Rajasthan) one-fouth Musulmans. In Bengal, Behar, and Orissa about half and half. This is a rough guess, since we have no rule to prescribe or ascertain them."

Image of seal hunt from 1880

[edit]

I couldn't help but notice you added an image to the "seal hunting" article. Being ever so wary of arguments posed by seal hunt supporters, I am aware of the one that goes, "It's a part of our heritage", or "tradition". It "appears" that this image could represent the Canadian seal hunt, but, if you look closely, the man on the left of this image is brandishing a Finish flag. This could mean one of two things. First, the image is actually of a seal hunt in Finland but it would appear your source seems to confirm it's not. That or, it gives reason for me to start a new section in the article entitled "Seal Hunt: Proud Tradition or Modern Incarnation of Foreign Interest Exploitation". As I'm sure you may know, up until 1986 most of the sealers involved in the Canadian seal hunt were from Norway or Finland. This means that the seal hunt is not a "Canadian tradition". Just an FYI.--XB70Valyrie (talk) 19:58, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1. that could be any cross on a white field, such as the Cross of St. George. It could even be a maritime signal flag and - this will surely please you - such a flag would communicate: "Stop carrying out your intentions and watch for my signals", or possibly the number 8.
2. your attempt to de-legitimise the seal hunt by pointing out that it is practiced beyond Canada is illogical and counter-productive at best. If it's not just something unique to Canada but found in several countries, then that makes it even stronger tradition, no?

I've looked at a sample of the changes made by 76.120.151.113 where Category:String instruments was added to about 100 articles about string instruments, and I didn't see anything wrong with any of the ones I saw. If a few of the ones I didn't see were inappropriate, those should be undone individually. It is quite unjustified to mass revert all that work by 76.120.151.113 in my opinion. Coleridge merge

[edit]

I reverted that. There are many authors with early life pages devoted to explaining the education and background. Such pages are reserved for major, major authors and for those whose biography pages are devoted also to their themes, works, and other aspects. John Milton, Samuel Johnson, William Wordsworth, Charles Darwin, etc. On Samuel Coleridge, there are two books specifically devoted to his early life, and many books that discuss his juvenilia, which are his early works. This has come up a few times before and consensus is very accepting of the pages, since they are independently notable topics and are not content forks. The "Barelwi" article

[edit]

You've put in a lot of good work into this article in the way of copyediting and correcting the citations. I placed an appeal on the talk page that perhaps you could help with. I've been watching that article for almost two years, and have seen a lot of people come and go with varying agendas (and have even had my user page vandalized a few times from angry Barelwi fans/detractors). It could use someone with a more serious "encyclopedic attitude" as I like to call it (and with the minimum acceptable competency in the English language).

Also, you may want to archive your talk page, it's rather long. MezzoMezzo (talk) 17:59, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed some comments regarding the material about Salafist reactions to the Barelwi movement which I would like to discuss. Specifically, a link from a partisan website known as "Fatwa Online." It is certainly clear that the site has an agenda to push. What I would focus on, however, is not the site itself but rather the information it provides.
The page in questions was referencing a statement from Saudi Arabia's Permanent Committee. This is the main theological body in a prominent Muslim country that also contains the Islamic religion's two holiest cities. The notability of this committee speaks for itself, and while we certainly don't want the article to take sides, the fact that such a committee made a publicly pronounced statement regarding the Barelwi movement is itself notable as well.
If we (the editors) come to a conclusion that linking to a web page from "Fatwa Online" is not appropriate then I can see that. It is simple to look up the reference and volume number for the committee's statement for reference purposes however. I am sure you can agree that such a religious body making such a statement is at least worthy of mention in the article as representing mainstream Salafist opinion, which (given the amount of controversy surrounding just the article here on Wikipedia) is notable. I did a little searching just to confirm, and was about to tag it db-g3 when I looked at the history and saw that it had originally been a useful redirect, so I have restored that. I'll watch it - if the hoax comes back I'll maybe ask for the redirect to be semi-protected - that'll keep the IPs off, and the SPA author of the hoax can be blocked if he persists. Conflict of Interest?

[edit]

Hi, you tagged both the Messiah Foundation International and Younus AlGohar articles as having a conflict of interest. They seem to have good sources (though more are being added for reliability) and do not seem biased to me. Could you please explain how, so that we can improve the articles (as I myself contribute a lot to the articles)? Perhaps we should change the language to make it more neutral? Thanks for your help in advance. (Omirocksthisworld (talk) 22:36, 7 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Proposed deletion of Giga (instrument)

[edit]

The article Giga (instrument) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced despite request dated April 2008 - barely more than a definition. No notability seemingly claimed.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Regarding changes in wikipage of caste :" Maratha"

[edit]

I do have explanation for removing the quote from colonel i.e.

"In 1798 Colonel Tone, who commanded a regiment of the Peshwa’s army, wrote[2] of the Marāthas: “The three great tribes which compose the Marātha caste are the Kunbi or farmer, the Dhangar or shepherd, and the Gawli or cowherd; to this original cause may perhaps be ascribed that great simplicity of manner which distinguishes the Marātha people.”[3]"

1) Maratha caste do exists far before the 1798. A people from a certain caste do know what there caste is. Dhanagar, Gawali,Maratha are absolutely different castes( I do believe , you live in India and aware of the caste system here.) 2)I take it highly offensive to categories/refer these Kunbi as a "Tribe" by someone outsider and mention four different caste as a single caste , even-if they are registered as separate different caste today. 3)If it is the question of quotes only by someone in a history(past-Independence Era), I do have many quotes which referring "Maratha" as an independent caste and it is having absolutely no relation with Caste Dhanagar ,Gawali. Kunbi is subcaste of Caste "Maratha" and for which ,we certainly not required a Great Quote from someone outside the India.

I am having other points, but first I want see your "Independent" explanation regarding "WHY" you are interested in putting the above Quote here. I believe , the explanation is Genuine and is far more than just scratching out my points. Expecting your "Explanation" sooner , at least before you can undo my change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ingale 74 (talkcontribs) 13:14, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear MV. I saw your edit to the list of scholars in the article. Though you did with all the good intentions, but missed some famous people e.g. Ubaidullah Sindhi. Some others, holding important academic/religious positions, may be included in my humble opinion. I wish that, before delition, you bring the issue to the article's discussion page and give time to those with expertise/knowledge in this area.(I am not an expert to do it myself; I contribute copy edits here and there mainly). Criticism on thanvi

[edit]

Dear Matthew, I am unable to understand your objection, since I have provided actual sentence written by him, and provided book name, book publisher and its date of publish, looking forward for your reply, as I am afraid how real critics is not allowed on wiki, since reader will decide if this sentence is of what feeling --Ibne Adhi (talk) 08:25, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, Matthew, thanks for adding criticism on the article, but what it is very short to understand why ?, since the fatwa of Kufr was imposed to Thanwi because of that answer which he gave in return of a question, how about we just add the exact sentence of the fatwa which he gave, and people could conclude why Ahmad Raza Khan imposed fatwa upon him, we are not adding any commentary on it, we just quote exact sentence what he wrote, and this is justified, we are not summarizing any material, we are just adding exact sentence what he quoted in his Fatwa, moreover few more fatwa are with me, I want to put exact sentence written by him, let the people read them self and understand, I wont be explaining any sort of portion --Ibne Adhi (talk) 10:41, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Previously, I stated that, Thanwi considers that Knowledge of Prophet Muhammad is similar equal to the knowledge of animal, beast, and mad, at that time you asked me to quote proper context where as for now, you are not adding just for space issues, what my point is, Ahmad Raza Khan issued Fatwa of Kufr against Thanwi in response to the below fatwa by Thanw, and then I am quoting context of thanwi, rather than summarizing Fatwa of Ahmad Raza Khan which will not be neutral as per your point of view, as Ahmad Raza Khan wrote that Thanwi was an insolent and his insolence could be seen in the fatwa which he issued in regard to the knowledge of Prophet Muhammad, now please suggest, how to proceed. I want to be clear on the subject of thanwi, and I am disappointed too, as neutral criticism with proper context has not been appreciated by Wikipedia. --Ibne Adhi (talk) 07:58, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Took at look at Bavarian People's Uprising (a better translation of the word) and cleaned it up. I'm not as familiar with Bavarian resources, so I couldn't add references. There's two battles mentioned in the uprising (both with article in the German WP), which might make articles or at least expand this article. You might take a look at those 2 battles and see. Work on Revolt of the Brotherhoods

[edit]

Hi! Great to see somebody else taking interest in this, I've been meaning to come back and expand this for awhile but been distracted / busy. (Notably, I didn't even fix blatantly bad edits like this..., and the main article still needs some work.)

That said. I noticed you translated some articles on specific battles in the war. Honestly, I'm not sure that these articles are ever likely to get long enough to stand on their own well. List of battles of the Italian Wars is a good example, shorter battles got merged to the list while more important ones have "main articles." If tons more information is found, they can always be expanded back out. Shamefully, I never finished Military history of the Revolt of the Comuneros, which was going to have full information on all the battles... argh, need to get back and do that as well. Anyway, I think that something similar would be appropriate - perhaps a Military history of the Revolt of the Brotherhoods or List of battles of the Revolt of the Brotherhoods article would be better, with all the specific battles merged to it (as well as general campaign information).

Also on the merging note, Brotherhoods of Mallorca is translated from the same content I used for Revolt of the Brotherhoods#Germanies of Majorca, 1521–1523. While this is definitely something that might be able to stand as its own article some day, I'm not sure it does now? ...alas, I found rather little information on the Mallorca situation, so it probably won't be me who expands this. I'm not adverse to them having their own article with a {{main|Brotherhoods of Mallorca}} for the section, but I could also see a merge here too, maybe. Unsure.

Anyway, it's still nice to see some others looking into this. Any thoughts on the above? SnowFire (talk) 17:20, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(moved from SF's talk page) Greetings, glad to see someone else tracking on the topic. I hadn't set out to do so, but have been mining other-language wikis for subjects with little/no coverage on en.wiki, and chanced across ca.wiki's stash of Brotherhood materials, figured I'd create a parallel cat. I mentioned in WikiProject: Spain that the battle articles I've translated are the short ones, and in all honesty that was just to start populating the category to at least get the ball rolling. I wouldn't be adverse to their later being merged; that said there are several far-longer and more-WP Brotherhood battle articles on ca.wiki, I just happen to be focused on general expansion/inter-wiki more than specific labour-intensive articles at the moment. So far as Brotherhood of Mallorca, I would prefer to leave it a separate article, largely so that I can make sure it ties into the Majorca category-tree. I may soon mine ca.wiki to build a "History of Majorca" category, and that'll be a start. At some point as well I need to keep mining ca.wiki for Catalan paramilitary groups, and history of Iberian anarchism, both topics where ca.wiki has far more coverage than en.wiki.
What other topics are you translating over from the other languages? MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:58, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I would be in favor of moving it to Brotherhoods of Majorca for use of all-English terms (alternatively, "Germanies of Mallorca" for all-Catalan or "Germanías of Mallorca" for all-Spanish), since if you look at the talk page I got some criticism myself for the mixed title "Revolt of the Germanies" the page had for awhile. Definitely would be in favor of merging the battle articles, though.
As for other stuff? Probably the biggest was my work on the Revolt of the Comuneros article, which I submitted to FAC but was rejected on, to me, somewhat specious and non-specific prose complaints. That was actually more translation from real sources rather than es.wikipedia, but there's a whole lot of minor players who could use to have their articles expanded from Spanish Wikipedia. Juan Bravo and Francisco Maldonado come to mind (Maria Pacheco too, but I actually half-wrote a much better article on her from some of the books I read... just need to finish that). Also obviously translated Revolt of the Brotherhoods at the same time. More recently, read up on the Second Brotherhood some, but created the Revolt of the Barretinas article and fully intend to make a completeish article on the Catalonian campaign of the War of the Grand Alliance (similar to the Military history / List of Battles articles). That one is actually almost completely done, no idea why I haven't posted it yet. Anyway, are you fluent in Catalan? I posted a request on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Catalan-speaking Countries awhile back, but got no response. Was idly thinking of submitting the Barretinas article to GA / FA some day, but would want more backing first to make sure the English sources are on the right page.
I did some work translating House of Mendoza but became frustrated and quit after a persistent editor constantly reverted my translation of Diego Hurtado de Mendoza on bad grounds IMO. Not entirely related to the Brotherhoods, but es:Germanía could also use a full translation to the English article. Not sure I'll ever get to that one, though. And while most of the material is from English sources, some of Expulsion of the Moriscos is translated from the Spanish article on it. SnowFire (talk) 18:48, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A combination of Google Translate and from scratch. My Spanish isn't really fluent (more like "passable tourist") which makes Catalan... well, I get the general gist, but there's always the worry about missing idioms / subtle word meanings.

Personally, the heated political nature of the post-1850 stuff always scared me off a bit. ;-) Which is not to say that the 1500s-1600s don't have their share of weird nationalisms, natch. Iran's interesting too, but I got stuck into a very dumb edit war at the 1952 coup page the last time I poked my head into that, and gave up in disgust - one of those cases where there was a clear failure to agree on what the same book all four editors read actually said. Your contributed article, Pemoeda

[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Pemoeda. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Youth Pledge. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Youth Pledge - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. SatuSuro 11:49, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Syntax

[edit]

The correct syntax for the Expand language temaplates is "topic=hist" not "history=yes". Rgds, Rich Farmbrough, 03:10, 4 February 2010 (UTC)..[reply]

  • Thanks for being editing HH Gohar Shahi's article. As its been proved that HH Gohar Shahi did never claim being Imam Mehdi or the Prophet. You can understand very well that Younus (who call himself algohar, just to show people link with gohar shahi) & MFI are whatever doing is against the teaching of HH Gohar Shahi. They are simply using the name & picture of HH Gohar Shahi, this is a great conpiracy against HH Gohar Shahi. Therefor, I request you to kindly look into this.--Falconkhe (talk) 07:59, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for your quick response. I am not asking you to believe or faith in HH Gohar Shahi is Mehdi or go against MFI & Younas. The point is that younas and MFI are preaching self-made teachings and linked that with HH Gohar Shahi, the truth is that they don't belong to HH Gohar Shahi.

I have nowhere use His Holiness in whole wikipedia but I use His Holyness only in my personal conversation, which shows my feelings & respects towards HH Gohar Shahi. I am not asking you to research upon MFI or Younas but at least you can judge yourself who is saying lie.--Falconkhe (talk) 10:24, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For offering your neutral opinions and suggestions on Talk: Imam Mehdi Gohar Shahiand Talk: Messiah Foundation International, it has really helped us make decisions. Whenever you get the time, would you mind offering your thoughts on Talk: The Representative of Gohar Shahi and Talk: RAGS International? They've been subject to the same sort of disagreements between me and Falconkhe, and don't seem to be getting anywhere. I was thinking that, if there is still a problem regarding these pages after a few days of discussion, I will put up an RFC tag. But nonetheless, your opinion on the matter is really appreciated, and thanks again for your helpful contributions. Omi() 06:55, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RFC: Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi and associated pages

[edit]

Hi, regarding the long-running content disputes over articles and pages relating to Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi, I have opened an WP:RFC. Please see: Talk:Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi#RFC: Long-running content disputes. Thanks, Esowteric+Talk 11:58, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is a no dispute whether Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi actually died, disappeared, or went into "occultation". We believe that he went into Occultation on 25th November 2001. The only organization HE founded was Anjuman Serfroshan-e-Islam and not MFI. Younus has nothing to do with Gohar Shahi, younus is using the name and pictures of Gohar Shahi for his ill-deeds. Through,RAGS International, The Representative of Gohar Shahi & Messiah Foundation International, Younus AlGohar, younus and his companion are using Wikipedia for self promotion of his self-made teachings. So, my point of view is that Younus should stopped on this stage, he shouldn't allow to use wikipedia for his ill-deeds.--Falconkhe (talk) 12:36, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

interesting about Bahá'í Faith in Mongolia

[edit]

First, of course, congrats. You may know I have an ongoing interest is articles like this. I'm curious what brought your attention to making such a article? Smkolins (talk) 19:19, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah - I see. From my own understanding and reading I was thinking both would be likely contenders but I'd never seen specific info. I have seen other blog entries about how Mongolia was often used as "the farthest end of the world" place and there were Baha'is there. As for if there should be an article... perhaps an article like Only countries with no Bahá'ís and redirect Bahá'ís Faith in Vatican City and Bahá'í Faith in North Korea there and the substance of the article would be a few stats about being widespread, having reached Mongolia which is often considered the most "far away" country, and then the specific info that Vatican City and North Korea are in fact as of (2008? - whatever year for stats) the only places there are no Bahá'ís and why, if it's stated. I think it's quite doable. Smkolins (talk) 10:08, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 03:09, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sir,

if you want to start an edit war than you should know that you are not welcome. As per the content which is added and citated by me,which you think is biased, than you should know that the citations i given are considered as the greatest books of sunni islam in modern time.(wahabi-deobandi copy-paste fatawa from these and use as source,i know cause i'm ex-deobandi.)

Second thing, according to you(and wahabis),wahabi is a degradory term, because they don't use that and use salafi, that's why it's allowed, because followers of wahabism want that. This formula doesnt apply to -majority of people who identifie themselves as Muslim-;Sunni who are called barelvi even if they identifie themselve almost usually as Sunni.(This hypocrity is called as double standard!) Atleast,,,now you accept that wikipedia articles should be neutral,it mean we must remove the wahabi PoV on every article.(this may make you unhappy!LOL!)

Third thing, barelvi is not a sect but a wahabis made it,,,it's ahle sunnah......The orthodox ahle sunnah. If you think it PoV Than i can prove it dude!

Hi MatthewVanita,

Just a note here, to inform you of actions.

After trying to establish calm here and User talk:Urduboy#Your dispute with Coercorash, and following the subsequent further edit by Coercorash (as noted in my warning at the end of that first link), I sadly believe it necessary to request temporary full protection for the article, and have done so here.

It's quite possible it will be the wrong version for a bit, but so be it - no deadline, etc.

I remain a neutral third-party, trying to resolve the problem as best I can.

I hope you'll understand, thanks,  Chzz  ►  21:43, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I replied; see User talk:Chzz#Suggestions as to how to proceed on Barelvi?. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  01:18, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I replied again, but I just moved the reply to my archives - forgive me; my talk page gets very busy...but also, I thought the links would be better here, anyway. I wrote that...
The solution to that one is to issue appropriate warnings (level 1,2,3) for 'adding unreferenced information', and then request that the user is blocked. See WP:WARN, Template:Uw-unsourced1, 2, 3.  Chzz  ►  08:37, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do feel free to ask me again at any time...but also, I do encourage you to just give it a bit of time, to see if things work out...time being the great healer, there is no deadline, and all that. Best of luck; stick with it, but don't get frustrated; as long as you stay calm and stick to the procedures, things do work - just, they often take time. If you'd rather that I issue warnings (when appropriate), no problem, just ask me. And feel free to request furthher page protection, WP:RPP.  Chzz  ►  06:46, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent; looks like a tiger well-stuffed. Chzz  ►  09:23, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did actually reply inline on my talk, but it seemed churlish to say "I've replied, see xxx" when the reply itself was shorter than the subsequent talkback message. A space-saver that, I realise, I have now negated with this comment. Such is life.  Chzz  ►  09:25, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just noticed this image you contributed to Wikipedia. First off, it's a very nice image, & definitely enriches Wikipedia. Do you have any further information about this painting? It is in the traditional Ethiopian style, & it would be nice to be able to attach an artist's name & date to it. Hi, slight problem here - the article includes image Trinchera.jpg but there is a Wikipedia file of this name as well as the Commons file that is the one wanted. One or other needs to be moved/re-uploaded. The Commons file is the newer upload so technically that is the one that should be changed but as it's used on the Spanish wiki it might be easier to get the wiki file changed, so I've requested a file rename for the wiki image. Revert at Barelvi

[edit]

Hi Mr Mathew The reason to revert the Barelvi article is that the references you've provided do not portray the right perception of Barelvi :) i provided the references from Quran the Holy Book and Hadith my references had all the contents to support the beliefs and practices section :) how do you justify your references by googling the things ? any refenerece which is cited there should be from Quran and Hadith :), thats not justified you got to have knowledge to amend that article that is not complete and we have to collect the right information for it don't just ruin it if you're honestly trying to complete that article :) now you've reverted it back to your version of that article i'd like you to have a look at the previous version of it if theres any problem in that contact me i'll explain it Thanks (Ahmad Shah Bukhari (talk) 10:08, 12 July 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Agree Mr. Bukhari

[edit]

I agree.Mr. Matthew should see guidelines on references on Islamic articles,in which it said that references from Quraan & Hadiths are preferable. But before it,he must see guidelines on neutrality.

CoercorashTalkContr. 13:21, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@Coercorash : Have you even read the guidelines for Islamic articles? Here is the link: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Islam-related articles)#Qur.27an_and_Hadith. It says:
The Qur'an and the Hadith are considered to be primary sources, as defined in WP:NOR. Therefore they should not be quoted to make an argument or imply a particular interpretation unless one can also cite a reliable secondary source that supports that usage. Editors can not use primary sources to make analytic, synthetic, interpretive, explanatory, or evaluative claims. But it's good idea to add Qur'an and Hadith to clarify the issue.
That means do not reference Quran or Hadith unless you also have a reliable secondary source also. For some reason you are having a hard time understanding WP:NOR and WP:SECONDARY. Please read them and try to understand what they mean before making mass edits. --Urduboy (talk) 15:11, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ofcourse the sources from Quraan and Ahadith are better than pagan sources which are without any secondary source. That's what i mean.

CoercorashTalkContr. 18:06, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, quotes from the Quran and hadith are not "better than pagan sources", and nobody except you is suggesting using primary sources instead of secondary. The point is that you, Coercorash, are not a recognised authority on Quranic exegesis, so your opinion as to what various portions of the Quran and hadith mean for the Barelvi is simply not relevant to Wikipedia. What is relevant is what recognised, reputable secondary sources have to say about how those apply to the Barelvi issue. Performing your own Quranic exegesis on Wikipedia is basically the definition of WP:OR or self-publishing. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:12, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok I got it what you're trying to say i'd like to contribute to that draft version of the article and i'd provide references from Quran, Hadith and Secondary reliable sources to support all my references hope that should be ok with you lemme know (Ahmad Shah Bukhari (talk) 08:56, 13 July 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Re. Barelvi

[edit]

Hi there. Just a quick note, at the moment, to let you know - I certainly have not forgotten about this issue; in fact, I've done quite a bit, behind the scenes, to work how to best resolve things. The protection I requested was my first action - to protect the project from direct disruption; and with that measure in place, I have breathing-room to work out what else we can do.

To give fair consideration, I need to carefully check some past edits, which is why I have not responded yet; but I want to assure you that once I have had the time to give due consideration, I will take appropriate action—the "{{doing}}" is genuine, and I will respond further. Meanwhile, I encourage calm discussion, and for any problems, remember it is just a few words on talk pages - the article is 'safe' - and we can try to ignore inappropriate things on talk pages. If any warnings or blocks are helpful to improve wikipedia - as blocks are never punitive - well, that can be evaluated, ASAP but not quite immediately, given the complex nature of the issues. Thanks,  Chzz  ►  08:36, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So, the protection has expired again - but, I did see at least some useful debate going on; for now, I don't think any other action is required. If anything else happens though, feel free to let me know. I hope this problem can be resolved. If it continues, I suggest the mediation cabal.  Chzz  ►  21:56, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Controversial matters such as Chola descent, affiliation of Krishnadevaaraya, Thanjavur nayaks, Kattabomman etc need to be supported by solid proof. "Naidu" is often confused to be a caste, similar to that of "Reddy". These were titles prevalent in many other groups. Users are requested to be objective, historical and dispassionate. Users should give references as MathewVanitas indicated.Kumarrao (talk) 12:50, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coptic militias

[edit]

Hi there, There are no known coptic militias in contemporary history of Egypt. Perhaps you might find something during the first half of the 20th century, but that would be only a part of the many other militias which fought against the British occupation of Egypt. The real Coptic militia would be found back in the 8th century, they were called the "Bashmuor" people and they fought for so long against the Arab/Muslim conquest of Egypt in the guerrilla style. I remember they even had their own territory for a while. I am not sure about the English spelling given above, and not sure about whether you will find lots of sources in English; i might try to help you with this later on with Arabic sources [if you wish], which are not too many also. ... . not notable per WP:NOTABLE and WP:MILMOS/N

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

pickled carrots or carrot salsa?

[edit]

RE: your recent edit over on Salsa

In the southwest, the taco shops mostly always have carrot salsa, or relish, or pickled carrots. Carrot salsa is typically lightly cooked. Manufacturers have themselves interpreted tomato salsa as "cooked" (canned) versus "fresh" (refrigerated), yet they're still both called "salsa". Typically the carrot salsa side dish includes carrots, onions, and jalapeno, typically is seasoned with garlic and a peppercorn or two, and is a rather common Mexican dish. Some food writers group salsa, relish, and pickled goods in the same categories, as it is rather hard upon process examination to distinguish each as unique from the other.

http://www.google.com/search?&hl=en&safe=off&q=carrot+jalapeno+salsa&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai= http://www.google.com/search?&hl=en&safe=off&q=+salsa+vs+pickling&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

So, I think you'll find that some say tomato, others tomatoe, and similarly a pickled tomato or carrot some call a relish others call a salsa. By similarity of preservation processes it's hard if not impossible to distinguish among them. Gzuufy (talk) 23:25, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a book that could meet wikipedia's verifiability standard (reference) for the phrase "carrot salsa", though this particular version lacks the jalapeno. Gzuufy (talk) 01:15, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • In Mexico, salsa is typically some sort of dipping sauce for tacos. The simplest and most common is fresh diced tomato and onion with some oil and vinegar, and often with fresh chili pepper of some sort. Diced or pureed avocado (guacamole) is common too, with or without chili. There are many variants, some cooked and/or pureed. I would guess that southwest US usage carries over the Mexican meaning, which is quite broad. Aymatth2 (talk) 21:45, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the speedy request on this one a while ago, and have no problem with it. Looking at the history, it seems that the article got moved from Tara Singh to Master Tara Singh in 2005, probably to distinguish from the other Tara Singhs. I probably created the redirect when tidying up after starting Tara Singh Ramgarhia. I agree that this is the better title - honorifics do not belong - so have no problem with the redirect being deleted and then the Master Tara Singh article moved to it. Any reason why the speedy is taking so long to get done? Aymatth2 (talk) 21:24, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Dynasties of Afghanistan"

[edit]

Hi. I just noticed that you have created the category "Dynasties of Afghanistan". I have to object, because the title is very misleading. Afghanistan as a nation-state came to existence in 1747 (actually in 1919). Claiming any dynasties of the past as "Dynasties of Afghanistan" is wrong and not scholarly. It's like claiming that the dynasty founded by Genghis Khan was a "dynasty of Russia" or that the Ottoman Empire was a "dynasty of Austria and Hungary". While in fact Genghis ruled in what is now Russia and the Ottomans ruled what is now Austria and Hungary for many decades, both are NEITHER regarded as a "dynasty of Russia" or a "dynasty of Austria", etc. I think that the whole category is useless and misleading. Tajik (talk) 03:11, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply. I do not think that "Bengal" or "India" or good examples. Because "Bengal" is rather a general geographic term, so is "India" (like "America", which is commonly used as a synonym for "USA", but actually covers a whole continent). "Afghanistan", on the other hand, a purely political expression. In pre-modern era, it was a loose expression for a relatively small area inhabited by "Afghans" (= modern Pashtuns), located somewhere between the Hindukush and the Indus River, largely centered around the Suleyman Mts. in modern Pakistan. In my view, the category is misleading (actually, I am against all categories in Wikipedia). Regards. Tajik (talk) 15:44, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

i do not understand what this whole issue with using sunni scholars in the article is about. since you seem knowledgeable with wiki policy i would like to ask u this...are we allowed to use what a sunni scholar has said in his book that criticiises the twelvers? some people seem to be suggesting that you can only use this sunni scholars quote as long as it is being mentioned by another source. like say sunni scholar says XYZ about shia in his book. can i add this to the article or must it be sourced as a scholasr says that a certain other sunni scholar criticises twlevers on XYZ?thanks.Suenahrme (talk) 01:20, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for raising an ANI, it seemed best option to me. Regarding Shia discussion, I have posted my comments there at project discussion page, its nothing new just same repetition of what I said at 'Shia Islam' talk page with little tweaking and expansion. BTW, Someone65 got blocked for a week or so, may be we will have to wait for further comments by him/her (S/He already made a comment before getting blocked). Thanks for you work specially with the Criticism artcile now it looks much balanced but it seems Afd is still open for it, as I was one who proposed Afd can I do anything to get it closed? From coming Friday I'll be not very much active till start of next year and may miss my watchlist update, plz feel free to drop a note at my talk page if you want (or raise an ANI and level the score ;), kidding). --Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haidertcs 05:09, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism of Shia

[edit]

Hi again friend. I read your comment on the admin talk page, and I want to change my opinion about deletion. You are right that a western should know why for example Sunni's in Pakistan have such behavior to minorities of Shia. Just there is one point that I hope you, as a neutral expert editor consider it. Criticism has two aspects, while it reports X opinion about Y, it must provide space for Y answers to X. My only negative point is that there shouldn't be discrimination, for example if something is reported, there should be answer for it. Now I want to use the great opportunity of you presence to improve the article together. If you agree to collaborate for improving the article, please inform me. I can help to add lots of new matters to the article with good sources. thank you. --Aliwiki (talk) 13:24, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your comment. In both AFD and admin page, I voted to keep. Maybe my behavior in the past days has made you to consider me as a belligerent editor, but I am ensuring you I am not, and I will prove this in the incoming days. I will make a new section on the article talk page, and hope to see you there.--Aliwiki (talk) 16:06, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Matthew, I have listed almost all of the ongoing criticism topic in this half-sphere of the world and I gave a suggestion about article name. I know some of these topics don't worth to be discussed (I just wrote them to have a complete list) while discussion of others can be very informative. I just need to know your opinion as a western user, which topics are worthy to be included in the article, and that if you know something more to be added. Thanks.--Aliwiki (talk) 22:09, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mathew - Need some help

[edit]

Hi Mathew Vanitas,

Firstly, I am a great admirer of the Wikipedia site and the work that you guys as administrators do! I was just reading your page of issues you handle and I must say that I really admire the kind of detail you guys check in posts to help keeping the Wikipedia page neat! Kudos to you all on this!

I just wanted to quickly chat with you about the problem we have with the Shaikh Aseduallah Quadri post by guide99. I guess there has been some problem about the authenticity of the article and I just read the (war page:)) between the admin group and guide99.

I also think you guys suspect that me and guide99 are the same person. Well, your doubts are valid. I just wanted to clarify that we are definably not the same person. I have been following Wikipedia for a very long time and I just signed up to register my account here.

I know the Shaikh personally and I admire his capabilities and used to follow this page on Wikipedia for all the articles guide99 used to update (am sure you can check the history of my ip address or so). I was really surprised to see that this page was called not authentic, and hence, I reached out to guide99 recently in a social gathering and spoke about this. He told me about the issues you guys have with the authenticity part of the article and you needed references. Which is why, I edited the page - but I am guessing the edited information was not convincing enough.

I am very certain that you want to help us,Which is why I am reaching out to you sincerely. Could you please tell me what are the problems with the references I gave in my edit and what more references you would need. I would love to help you to have this post online.

Please know that Shaikh Asedullah Quadri is extremely popular in India and have a lot of followers on Wikipedia for articles on him. I speak on behalf of all his fans and it would be great if you could help me fix this issue.

Looking forward for your help and guidance here.

Replaceable fair use File:Condemned84_promotional_photo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Condemned84_promotional_photo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 21:20, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MatthewVanitas
Can you help .
I have been given five warnings by a user called Sikh-history who is also an admin on my talk page . The four warnings are

25 November Sikh-history , 21 December Sikh-history , 26 December Sikh-history , 26 December Sikh-history ,

  • These warnings are in addition to warnings placed on three other pages Talk:Kutha meat ,Talk:Matharu ,User talk:Sikh-history
  • I have been specifically pointing out disingenuous content and references inserted by user sikh-history , which I find really odd considering he is a admin . But instead of cogently responding to why he has repeatedly added phony content , references ...he either chucks wikipedia warnings at me attributes reinstating bad content on mistakes . Frankly the trend is becoming too large too ignore and over many articles . I have not deleted any content from any paage or edit warred , simply questioned him on odd edits . Take a look at the pages where I engaged him .
  • Talk:Khatri#16 November 2010
  • Talk:Matharu#Very odd content on this talk page he even deletes my response and issues me a warning
  • Talk:Kutha meat where he had added scores of false content and references from blogs . Iam not finished with that discussion because there are many more glaring incosistancies .

In the circumstances , is this legitimate behaviour on the part of a admin . What should my response be ??... desist from asking an admin why so many of his edits are seeming so phony ? . I am quiet sure Wikipedia policies are designed to protect misuse by both normal editors and admins . In this case the edit trend of user Sikh-history over many many articles is glaring . Would appreciate your advice .Intothefire (talk) 14:51, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK that's it, at first I thought it was funny, this is going too far Intothefire. I have warned you several times about this behaviour and harassing other editors as well.--Sikh-History 22:54, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: User Into The Fires WP:Wikistalking and WP:Harassment

[edit]
I notice User:Intothefire is now talking to you. Do you realise this editor has a history of WP:Wikistalking and pointed out here and many other occasions. He is currently trying to WP:Canvass, so are you joining in with him? If you are I intend to report him and any other editors involved in this behaviour. He clearly has a gripe with me since I added information about Sacrifice in the Hinduism article and other editors agreed with me. He has since then been WP:Wikilawyering and other behaviour. Also a heads up on what you said here, when you accuse another editor of being the alt of a persistent vandal without actually filing a report and putting it on discussion pages, then that is not a proper discussion. User User:Intothefire clearly has done this here. If you are not then I apologise in advance. Best Wishes --Sikh-History 22:52, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou

[edit]

Hi MatthewVanitas
Thankyou for your response.
I believe that the greatness of Wikipedia wrests from the process that enables bringing forth multitude of viewpoints, (even for the seemingly insignificant page) on any subject, no matter how contradictory. Collaboration has to stand on fair play of process .Only the fair privilege enjoyed by my counterpoint editor, can justify the rational of my privilege to fairly edit.
But does a platform that grants me freedom to use, also tolerate my freedom to abuse the same system. I do not believe this freedom to destruct a system should not be available automatically to those that enjoy its usage.
And then who is to judge? . I recognize that my edit contributions may be anathema to another. But my contribution (properly sourced) and respect to accept anothers content (properly sourced) is certainly going to enrich the continuing dialogue. Both on the page and on the talk page . .
I deeply appreciate the work of editors such as yourself, who work on cleaning content because in the end , the page needs to be encyclopedic .

Too often fake references, non English content mistranslated, reinstating bad versions, or better Wikipedia technical skills enable users to browbeat other users . I am also learning to improve my contribution to Wikipedia , both with regard to adherence to the spirit of the rules and engagement with other editors .Thanks for helping out and wish you a happy new year

Hi

The KGK did not simply work on railways in Gurjar, they worked on the whole of the Indian railway system. There contributions ranged across most of the east, north and west but reached as far as Ceylon. - that is why I used the India category rather than Gurjar, Kachchh or a category for each of the states the worked in.

I do appreciate your comments on the "bridges" categories etc. as I realise that it could be argued that as the article title is KGK and Railways in India the cats could be limited to that. However as the article is a detailed history of the construction of these and covers a wide area and the whole of the history of Indian railways from 1856 I felt that those categories should be included as anyone searching for "railway bridge construction in India", or similar, should benefit from the cat. addition. It is unlikely that a separate page would be created for each bridge or series of bridges at this time.

I referred to Wikipedia:Categorization#Categorizing_pages during the cats process which states that "Each article should be placed in all of the most specific categories to which it logically belongs." and I feel that you have removed cats which were pertinent.

Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 05:11, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So basically you are restating the comments you put in the edit summary, add nothing new and cannot consider the possibility that the categories should not have been removed.
I would like you to consider this from the Wikipedia:Categorization FAQ-
A category is probably inappropriate if the answer to the following questions is "no"
  • Is it possible to write a few paragraphs or more on the subject of a category, explaining it
  • If you go to the article from the category, will it be obvious why it's there? Is the category subject prominently discussed in the article.
As you can see there many paragraphs detailing the bridges and railway lines constructed.

Your Edit on Dilazak page

[edit]

Dear Matthew, I appreciate your interest on Dilazak page and grateful for your help in the past for improving its layout and contents. There are few things which require an understanding on your part and the reason for your present perception about different words and terms is probably due to cultural differences. I don't know which country you are from but there must be few things, I won't be able to comment upon merely because I don't fully understand them as compared to you. Same is the case here. You have reverted my change of word 'Pashtoon' to 'Afghan'. Now please try to understand that 'Pashtoon' is a person who speaks Pashto language or at least represent the area where Pashto is the Primary language. Whereas, the term 'Afghan' has two meanings. One meaning a person who is citizen of 'Afghanistan'. The other meanings are probably difficult for you to comprehend at the moment. Let me clarify, "Every individual who is Pathan, Pashtoon, Raasha, Kabulee, Pakhtoon or Roheela (Different local names of Afghan people in different parts of Indian sub-continent) from his father's side would be called as 'An Afghan' meaning Afghan is a wholesome word representing every true individual belonging to this particular breed of humans. The Dilazak particularly are settled in mostly non-Pashtoon areas (And they normally don't speak Pashto as well in general) ,therefore, the term 'Pashtoon' does not justify its place here. Hope this helped in clarifying the difference between 'Pashtoon' and 'Afghan'. and if it is so, please change the word to 'Afghan' instead of 'Pashtoon'. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Mohammad Asif Mohseni, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Please seek consenus on the other article talk page first. If you get consensus, or no response after a week, please rerequest. I'm not confortable this is necessarily uncontroversial. Thank you. GedUK  19:56, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shia islam table

[edit]

Dear Matthew thanks for your suggestions for improvement of the table. There was one mistake at diversion point of Sevener which I have corrected, I hope there is no major mistake left as all other things are pretty well clarified in related articles. The color coding also made different to emphasis all diversion from main Shia link. Hope this is better represented figure now. This figure carry lot of information at one glance and very important for understanding Shia Islam. Your further suggestion are welcome, deletion may not help, please help to improve.--Md iet (talk) 06:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Opportunity to comment on Batavia

[edit]

There is a discussion starting up at Talk:Batavia (disambiguation), that may be of interest to you. The subject is technically a page move discussion, but the purpose of the discussion is to decide where Batavia should redirect. Until earlier today, Batavia redirected to History of Jakarta, but during this discussion, it is redirecting to Batavia (disambiguation). Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for your help. HuskyHuskie (talk) 22:41, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are receiving this because you are one of the principal editors of one of the articles that is linked to Batavia (disambiguation). This notice is being posted to all of the top three editors of each of these articles (in terms of total edits), with the following exceptions:

  • editors who are blocked
  • anonymous IP editors
  • editors who, despite ranking in the top three of edits to an article, have only a single edit to said article

This is an attempt to be a neutrally-phrased posting in keeping with the principles of WP:CANVASS. If you find anything in the wording or the manner posted to be a violation of that guideline, please notify me at my talk page.

Fair use rationale for File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:00, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. We hope (talk) 18:42, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Pakistan

[edit]

PLEASE cite sources otherwise the material will be removed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:39, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going through Punjab region districts and cleaning them up. I'd love some help. However there are several problems. I agree that most unsourced poorly written material should be removed and them cleaned. However even leaving falling rain is not good enough. It is not a valid source and is up for blacklisting, heaven knows why it hasn't been obliterated yet. The population data and even altitude has shown on many occasions to be grossly inaccurate, like a coastal town in Madagascar was once give as being 360 metres in altitude on falling rain. I am concerned that even most of the altitude figures are false. The only thing about that site which is accurate generally are the coordinates. But in that case far better to use geonames database. Really we ought to be searching in google books and finding a mention of the village in census and using that as a source. The problem is that many of the villages are not mentioned in web or books in reliable sources and we're stuck with all the stubs which are open to badly written materials and lists of non notable people. The discussion of clans in articles to many readers will appear over the top and local POV with no relevance beyond that localization. I understand that clans are important in Pakistan but the majority of them warble on and on without any sources and it seems unnecessary..♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:05, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See this. Here's a tip. Find some info in google books, see the first source about an event in 1921. Copy the url after you've click on that book and paste it in here. Now click load, it will quickly draw up a full citation. This way you can find scraps of info to add to the articles. I believe if your see 6th and 7th hits on this above google book search you'll see a figure of 488 which is likely the village population. Occaisonally though you'll have to add the page number. I'll link this ref makers and google book link on your user page if that's OK so you can use it for quick reference and help find sources and scraps of info to add to the articles. Even a mention in a census is better than no source/falling rain.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:21, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the ref tools to your user page, hopefully you will find them useful for improving articles. Not every village will get a hit, but yo'd be surprised what you can conjure up by finding scraps from a few old sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:28, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I gather you are not grateful for this?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:12, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at your application; I don't see why you think you don't meet the main criteria. You've got almost 10x as many mainspace edits, created and curated a whole bunch of articles, you're active in several wikiprojects. I think you meet all the criteria. GA/FA articles aren't a requirement, they're one way of meeting that category - project membership is fine for that. In my opinion, you should just move your application up into the main area. A tag has been placed on Allen Weiss, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. Nuristan

[edit]

Stubs have been created for all the districts in Nuristan. I'm not sure that I have all of the synonyms as redirects yet. The NGA GEOnet Names Server doesn't always do a good job on synonyms. AIMS does not seem to have any authority control at the district level, but tends to use a variety of forms of names, my guess is that usage is at the discretion of the individual translator. The Afghanistan Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has redone their website and gotten rid of all of the profile documentation. --Bejnar (talk) 19:27, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ram Rahim Singh and Dera Sacha Sauda

[edit]

Dear MathewVanitas, I am trying to briefly make a few points. User Profitoftruth was repeatedly reinstating statements like "crap" for Ram Rahim. But I got blocked and accused of sock puppetry for trying to tone it down. Thats OK! But can I now supply some of the information that you have asked in your version of the article , please. Please check the user page of the article for the information. I do not even wish to edit in the morbid fear of these strong arm tacticians. The second point I wish to make it that Ram Rahim is as revered to his devotees as any other Guru or Prophet is to theirs. So , even while the content should not become advertorial , the proof of the Tehelka expose being false is being removed by the same user repeatedly even though it is cited from an independent media report of the court proceedings. That is from a national newspaper (but in Hindi) and therefore it has to be seen via google translate. I hope you will be able to improve the page with my humble inputs. Proposed deletion of Spodi

[edit]

I have removed the prod tag you placed on Spodi because per policy an article that has been discussed at AfD at any time is ineligible for prod. Compliance with policy is the only reason I did this; it should not be interpreted as my endorsement for keeping the article. Yes, I realize that in this case the AfD was 6 years ago and standards have changed since then, but the WP:PROD does not provide a time limit or any other exemptions to this clause. —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:02, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Review of major edit intended for appendage to stub, "7604 Kridsadaporn"

[edit]

Dear Matthew,

Thanks for your comments - they are valuable to me. I will take your advice and pop by the Astronomy project however my main concern is with the heading, "Discovery and naming" - if you can spare some extra time I would very much appreciate your further input, please.

An editor recently mentioned that Google/translate is not acceptable as a reliable reference in Wikipedia. I have a few Google/translate references in that heading. The suggestion was to not use any reference and "...just cite the Thai language..." - I don't really know what this means. Does it mean just leave those references out and let the reader translate if they want - by their own methods.

I will try to be pin-point clear - the references I'm referring to are [8] and [10] in the draft. That go something like:

Kridsadaporn (กฤษฏาพร, กฤษดาพร)[1] is a Thai name comprising two words; "kridsada" (กฤษฏา)[2] of Sanskrit origin and sometimes Romanized as gritsada, kritsada and often kruetsada however, Thai script rules[3] for Sanskrit borrow-words vowels transcribe it as "krisada", (กฤษดา)[4] while retaining the meaning, "kridsada" (กฤษฏา) {supernatural powers, divine, celestial}Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).(in Thai) of Sanskrit origin and sometimes Romanized as .....

Or must I completely leave out any reference to Google/translate and write:

Thanks for your help - I very much appreciate your input. --NehruR42 15:17, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

I made the changes you suggested. Abandoned pics (as you anticipated for new users) for now due to copyright uncertainties. Some pics on an external link. Could you please have another critical look at the page... again, many thanks for your work and input.

Rollback

[edit]

I was quite surprised to find you hadn't got it. You have now. I'm not often in the front line, but it does make reverting vandals quicker. I've cleared the backlog of 206.wotsit, leaving one untouched because they seem to have removed the afro themselves! Use rollback cautiously at first - and it won't do mass reversions over several articles (so far as I know...), but it does speed things up. Any queries, ask me and I'll find someone who knows more than I do to answer them... Peridon (talk) 18:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Alexander Pasik, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. IN RESPONSE TO Speedy deletion nomination of Queensland Young Greens

[edit]

Could you please immediately restore this article. It is similar in content to other youth wings such as Young LNP, Young Labor and Young Greens of Sweden. If this article should be deleted, so should there's...

The main source of information came from their facebook site, however, I have now removed that reference and as soon as they have an official website, I will reference this.

Thanks for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakeyboy1989 (talkcontribs) 01:02, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Queensland Young Greens

[edit]

I have provided two sources for the article as this is all I can currently find.

Can you explain why my article is being deleted, yet others are being accepted such as:

Young LNP: References are all from the political party (LNP = Liberal National Party) ^ http://lnp.org.au/ ^ http://www.youngliberal.org/executive ^ http://www.youngnationals.org.au/

Australian Young Labor: Only one reference from the political website. Another reference about one specific issue at the end of the article ^ "Australian Young Labor". Retrieved 2007-08-15. ^ "Labor's Bloody Rituals Lead to a Dead End". Retrieved 2007-10-21.

Young Greens of Sweden: No References. Listed as a stub - is this different? In that case how do I list my article as a stub?

Here are three comparable articles, similar organisations, exactly the same content and referencing and yet my article is not being approved. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. If I don't agree, is there a way to contest your decision? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakeyboy1989 (talkcontribs) 18:37, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matthew! I was fixing the instances here on Wikipedia of a misspelling, which is "Nappa" (should be "Napa" per Merriam-Webster, m-w.com -- Nappa is a common misspelling and is not an alternate spelling) -- but I can't figure out how to fix the main-header's spelling on the page called "Nappa." I was of course able to fix the rest of the content. Thanks! Grattan33 (talk) 15:05, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Grattan33[reply]
