Articles and hooks
[edit]I noticed your hooks and articles are looking really good. I especially liked the ALT3 hook you came up with for Nia Archives. Viriditas (talk) 20:43, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I was surprised to see it get reviewed so quickly, I was hoping to run a triple hook along the lines of "... that although Piri had been in a band with a producer, it took seeing Nia Archives and Yunè Pinku to inspire her to become one herself?" and sneak in Pinku and Piri & Tommy in later but actually, I think the two hooks in prep are better, and I suspect I'd struggle to expand Piri & Tommy x5 - although given I plan on 5xing Porij in the next couple of days, I may change my mind on that.--Launchballer 09:25, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

[edit]no worries. I will re-add at a later date with meticulously updated and proper references. I just posted since I spent yesterday putting it together and was updating as I went.
I was originally planning to generate his wiki a few weeks ago before you did and think you did a good job overall but personally, (even though properly sourced), I find your version very overwhelming with a lot of much unnecessary information and fun facts (like hyperlinking his relatives, even though no page exists or the mention of Emily in Paris from the Billboard article) while, not enough info put towards things of relevancy in his music career, such as specific release dates and the label, etc or even the lack of mentioning his new album coming out next week. - I will return to the nom when I can get the article back above 2,000 characters (it was 400), but given that all of the sources I used were subject-generated, would they not have come under WP:ABOUTSELF?--Launchballer 16:01, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- The subject has not publicly connected her real name with her persona. The applicable policies are WP:SYNTH and WP:BLPPRIMARY. (The Slovak source you mentioned recently is newer than your publication of the name and looks like a case of citogenesis (they used information from Wikipedia), so using it would violate WP:CIRCULAR). You can use ABOUTSELF for uncontroversial statements about each of the two personas, but you can't use it to make a connection between them as the subject has not publicly made this connection. —Kusma (talk) 16:28, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- I've also found another website which we might normally call a WP:RS which copied from us, and one of my colleagues tell me they've found several others, so please be extremely careful about restoring this information, i.e. don't do it unless there's an iron-clad WP:RS. I'm much more interested in the WP:BLP aspect than salvaging a DYK nomination. RoySmith (talk) 18:06, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the article, the only DYK on IWD that hints at a woman, - in former times, all hooks that day were about women, and now we have only: horsegiirL's "My Barn My Rules". The rest of the hook is again about a man. - Sorry for the rant, it's not your fault. Best wishes for your health! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:11, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
ps: it's featured on Portal:Germany. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:13, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- That hook was originally going to run last month, but was pulled due to it having her real name in there. (Which I'm still slightly sore about; if you publish your real name in a song's writing credits and then put in a press release "I wrote this song", then you're basically leading readers to the scene of the crime, it's not private infomation. That an IP purporting to be their management tried it on should mean nothing as we can't verify them.) I wonder what would have run today instead?--Launchballer 08:45, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Understand. You will know that I dropped out of DYK because the way it's run at present takes too much time. - Anyway, I have two women singers nominated, one found concerns with the sourcing (because I had to nominate before I was ready writing, and then forgot) and was pulled; the other was nominated for ignoring because I nominated 4 days too late. No reviewer said IAR that four days are not much compared to the months it sometimes takes to appear, as you described. I miss Vam_IV - that caused me forgetting other stuff. In former times, Rosiestep, SusunW and I drove a campaign to have eight hooks on IWD and plenty of other women's hooks for the rest of the month. Do we really have to return to represent women in the DYK section? The TFA is a woman, the TFP is a woman, - as it should be. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:30, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- ps: just for fun: see my user page today, with the story a woman, many DYK about women, today's planned article a woman. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:33, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your support for Lauritano! - Rossini's Petite messe solennelle was premiered on 14 March 1864, - when I listen to the desolate Agnus Dei I think of Vami. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:41, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- I uploaded vacation pics (from back home), at least the first day, - and remember Aribert Reimann. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:54, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

Regarding article
[edit]Hello there, whilst some content was copied from Jewish culture (with attribution). I do agree that it was premature of me to DYK especially since I wrote in Talk that I felt it was incomplete not having a section on Art in the Muslim empires (which I do not know enough about). I will strive to rewrite a better version of it. So overall though I think the removal of article was too harsh a decision. I accept it as a challenge to improve and better rewrite it (when I have the time). So thank you. And I apologize for not clarifying enough that the medieval section and Vitebsk part was attributed to another article. Homerethegreat (talk) 22:24, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Re: Breaking Bad
[edit]Regarding Breaking Bad, I think it's definitely worth watching the entire series once, but IMO, it doesn't have as much rewatch value because it's so depressing and sad. It's really a pathos overdose. Then there's the character of Walter White, who is so irredeemable that even thinking about watching the show again gives me anxiety. On the other hand, Better Call Saul, the spin-off show, infuses far more humor, comedy, and joy into the drama, and comes off more bittersweet than depressing in the end, and I think is a far, far superior show when all is said and done. Whichever you choose, I think you'll enjoy it. Viriditas (talk) 21:04, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Noticed your edit summary about needing a cite for a sentence in the article above. That sentence is covered by the citation in the next sentence. I.e. Ref #7. I typically don't repeat the same citation after consecutive sentences unless there are direct quotes. Is this what you were addressing, or was it something else? - I changed a comma to a full stop. Usually, when a paragraph ends with a comma, it's an indicator that the article's been vandalised. It may well just be a typo though.--Launchballer 07:41, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Re: "chatting up"
[edit]Hey, I hope you are doing well. I saw the minor kerfuffle over the use of "chatting up" and I thought I would make a comment. "Chatting up" has, for whatever cultural reasons, positive connotations, possibly related to "hitting on", both in the context of flirting, which is a somewhat complex topic. I realize you received some flak for misconstruing this as "harassment", and while you were mistaken, I think this error is understandable, as there's a very fine line between flirting and harassment. The difference comes down to "unwanted" or inappropriate flirting, and when that line is crossed, it becomes harassment. One thing that might help you in the future is to just directly quote a passage that seems ambiguous to you, and ask others to chime in with their opinion. I'm currently doing this now over at the ref desk, and I still don't understand the term "kidding the show"! So please, realize that you are not alone here, and that other people face similar issues. This page has taken a lot of work of research, and yes, I agree it needs more work to be done to be proper Wikipedia standards, but my question is: why did you just deleted all of this without even an explanation? I dont think that is how things should be done, and if you really think so, at least you could argue or mark the particular sections that need work.
Best regards. FranGallego33 (talk) 15:18, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- I did leave an explanation in the article's edit summary, WP:TNT. I saw GRuban's rejection of the nom (you can see it on the article's talk page), and also felt that the article was irreparable, so I put it back to a version from late last month, basically undoing about three and a half days work. GRuban may have more to add, but my suggestion is a) reading his explanation thoroughly and b) starting again from scratch.--Launchballer 16:01, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi!
- Sorry I didn't see your explanation. I understand why you did that. If you don't mind I'm going to put the link to the comment I have left on the editor that rejected the nomination. In the comment I explain some of the reasons of why the page was like that. I think it's much better for me to implement his comments having something to work on instead of having to create everything from scratch again.
- Now that I see that it wasn't a random deletion I regret a bit the end of the comment, as I was very disappointed. Still, I hope you can understand and revert the deletion.

Hey Launchballer, I know you have more experience with song articles. I just converted Thriller (Fall Out Boy song) from a redirect and started it over. I will be nominating at DYK after completion. I wondered if you might collaborate with me on the article. If you have time I would appreciate it and I will make the nomination. I have not cited the song length because I am not sure what RS for that would be. Thank you Bruxton (talk) 20:38, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Bruxton: I've done a bunch of work on it, you probably saw my edit summary. (To answer your question here, song length can be cited to the song, i.e. uncited, but I don't think it's worth carrying in prose.) I can tell you that when I went back to writing song articles, I used the GA Risk It All (song) as my template.--Launchballer 11:07, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the checks and edits. Have a great weekend. Bruxton (talk) 11:52, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

Quick question
[edit]Hello Baller, I have a question on DYK regarding "Jump" and its previous nomination. First, was the nomination failed? Second, since the article is now promoted to GA, can it be re-nominated and does it really have to be nominated by the article creator? Thank you in advance, I'll be on the lookout for your response. dxneo (talk) 03:22, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- No, no, and no, and I suggest proposing another ALT fairly sharpish.--Launchballer 08:55, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

False information
[edit]Dear Launchballer, my name is Urban Stojan Roš, and I am responsible for the trademark of Ana Roš. I have noticed that you have reviewed the information about her on the Wikipedia. I have now twice reverted/undone your revisions, as you state false facts. I kindly ask you to restrain from changing real facts and replacing them with false ones. For any further information, you are welcome to contact us via email via our webpage. Best regards, Urban UrbanStojan (talk) 07:30, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Message typed by my wife, whos information you keep editing and replacing with false information:
- "Hi, my name is Ana Roš Stojan and not Ana Roš.
- I am a three Michelin star chef from Slovenia. I am also one of the two women in the world to hold three red stars and one green. I have been holding 3+1 stars since 2023, and I was confirmed 3+1 stars 10 days ago.
- You continue changing my Wikipedia profile which is correct to the last information and misleading people with fake information.
- This is fraud and I feel being stolen my personality and credits for my work.
- Just wondering who are you to continue doing it?" UrbanStojan (talk) 11:29, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
June 2024
[edit]You were recently engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Ana Roš. This means that you were repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. As an experienced user, you know there are better ways to deal with a new editor who doesn't understand Wikipedia's policies! Don't edit war - be patient and seek out page protection and dispute resolution. Once you requested protection, you should have sat back and waited rather than continuing to edit war and violating the WP:3RR. —Ganesha811 (talk) 20:02, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- My reverts were covered by WP:3RR#EXBLP, which expressly exempts "removing contentious material that is [...] unsourced" from the three-revert rule, and I would argue that WP:3RR#EX8 ("unambiguous spam") also applies. I also checked with Schwede66 at User talk:Schwede66#BLP noticeboard, and - unless I am totally misunderstanding him - he agreed that "unsourced BLP content cannot be tolerated".--Launchballer 21:12, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for missing that you checked with Schwede. I disagree that this would fall under the exemption, but there's obviously room for reasonable disagreement. The edits were certainly promotional, but not really contentious. That's supposed to cover material which could have a negative reputational effect on someone, or cause them harm. That wasn't the case here. Unambiguous spam? Maybe! But after a certain point, edit warring just isn't productive and it's often easier to just let alone until a page has been protected, or the other editor blocked (as happened here). In any case, you were certainly improving the article with your changes, so thanks for looking out for Wikipedia. —Ganesha811 (talk) 21:41, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
