Control copyright icon Hello CT55555! Your additions to Draft:Wendy Porch have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. (I saw that you paraphrased a bit, but see the info on close paraphrasing -- your wording and order was too similar.. Thank you. eviolite (talk) 05:31, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

James Thuch Madhier moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, James Thuch Madhier, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. @User:S0091 OK thanks, I think it's time to give up on these and one other, I think I've learned meets the criteria and what doesn't. I'll keep it in draft in optimism that more media coverage in future may nudge this into notability and I appreciate the clear feedback that will help me learn and consider more carefully what warrants a page and what doesn't. Peace. CT55555 (talk) 00:51, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
If drafts go unedited for six months, they get deleted but you should get a notice beforehand. Any edit by a person, even a dummy edit, will roll it forward for another six months. If they happen to get deleted, no biggie because you can ask for a WP:REFUND. Please know nothing you have created to my knowledge is hopeless. Also, there are a million things to do around Wikipedia so if you ever need a break from creating new content try exploring something else. Wikipedia is better off with you around. WAY TOO MUCH of the draft is her being quoted. Wikipedia cares little for what a subject says or writes. What is needed is references to content written about her by people with no connection with her. David notMD (talk) 03:22, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi User:Jupitus Smart and thanks for the very speedy review. I was surprised that you didn't consider her notable. I recognise there are a few primary sources and passing mentions, but there's at least three secondary sources and I wondered if you might reconsider? Specifically

1 https://www.newslaundry.com/2018/11/12/india-todays-gaurav-sawant-accused-of-sexual-harassment 2 https://www.thestatesman.com/india/defamation-threat-vidya-krishnan-sex-abuse-gaurav-sawant-1502708402.html 3 https://www.hindustantimes.com/education/3-indian-journalists-to-get-international-health-media-fellowship/story-gKBjOOKeTLJvlWSgd4JooK.html I believe considering WP:THREE that she meets the notability bar, but if you disagree, could you tell me specifically what the gap is? With thanks CT55555 (talk) 18:36, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

P.S. As I read my own comment, I've just realised that WP:THREE is an essay, not a policy, nonetheless, my main point about her being notable I hope stands. CT55555 (talk) 18:38, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

I am under the impression that Reference 1 and 2 constitute a case of WP:BLP1E and a very minor one at that with no lasting impact. Reference 3 can at best be considered as a press release saying that she was among a handful of people selected for some fellowship. None of these are enough to meet WP:N according to me. But then again you can re-submit it and wait for somebody else to re-review it if you feel that I am being harsh. Best. Jupitus Smart 18:43, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
I would disagree that she's known for only one event. There's the abuse allegation at her former employers, there's the commentary on abuse of journalists covering COVID19, there's the award, I'm not sure if authoring a book is notable without coverage, but still there's at least two things. I would prefer to try to reach consensus with you and hear your thoughts rather than rapidly resubmit. Is that possible, or is your decision final? User:Jupitus Smart CT55555 (talk) 18:47, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
The combination of things mentioned above are not enough to meet my notability standards. If she is writing on the sad state of affairs for journalists covering the pandemic in India, that does not impart any notability to her. And I do not believe the fellowship is considered so important as to impart automatic notability to all its fellows. And the book is probably the weakest claim to fame as writing a book is not by any means an indicator of notability for the author, let alone a book that is only expected to be published in the future. As I mentioned before, if you feel that my assessment is harsh, feel free to re-submit and I will recuse myself from reviewing. Jupitus Smart 19:00, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks User:Jupitus Smart for taking the time to explain. I'll reflect a bit on this, see what else is out there and consider my next steps with this draft. CT55555 (talk) 19:02, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Good luck. I see that some of your other articles are very relevant and I wish you all the best in your journey on the encyclopedia. Jupitus Smart 19:04, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
I just accepted this draft - in my opinion there's significant coverage of at least two events, the sexual harassment allegation and the reporting about (not by) her commentary of COVID-19 journalism in India. Rusalkii (talk) 20:34, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Madawaska Mine

I've reverted your change to the production numbers.

1. Your edit: 9,498,368 pounds (3,545,490kg) - 9,498,368 pounds is actually 4,308,387 kg.

2. Table 12 on page 50 adds up to 9,000,000 lbs. Not sure where you get 9,498,368 lbs. By coincidence that's the total on the bottom of the table. 9,000,000 lbs is actually 4,082,331.33 kg or 4,082 tonnes. You'll note that Proulx gets the lb/kg conversion wrong all the way down the table.

I've gone back to one of her sources for the data but it provides different numbers! for example

regards John beta (talk) 07:17, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi John beta I got the numbers from Proulx (page 47), of course you're correct that the imperial and metrics numbers I inserted were incorrect, so I support your revert of my edit. All the best CT55555 (talk) 12:39, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Theroadislong this is the first time I've created an article about a book, before doing so I read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(books) and understood criteria #1 to mean if two newspapers wrote about it, it was notable. Can you tell me where I went wrong? I also notice you declined it within 1 minute of me submitting it. Is it possible you did this in error? CT55555 (talk) 14:01, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bearcat and thanks for taking the time to add a full explanation. You're comment about me not understanding the difference between primary and secondary sources was very true when I first started this article. Back then this was the second artile I tried to publish and it's been rejected a few times. I thought I had figured notability and quality sources and I expected this one to pass on the basis of notability being establsihed by the independent reportong on her work. For example:
https://www.toronto.com/news-story/9340596-advocates-call-on-toronto-to-address-accessibility-challenges/
https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2021/05/01/people-with-disabilities-face-confusion-and-other-barriers-to-getting-covid-19-vaccines-a-task-force-is-working-to-change-that.html
I'm ashamed that this didn't meet the bar again. Can you tell me where I'm going wrong? I'm having plenty success with other articles, but keep stumbling on this one, and not sure if I have a blind spot or something....? CT55555 (talk) 21:06, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
As noted, one key thing you can't do is cite sources where she was the author — but you also can't cite sources that just briefly quote her giving soundbite in an article whose core subject is something else, which is what both of the two above links are. Neither of them is about her, and instead they both just briefly namecheck her existence as a provider of soundbite in an article whose core subject is something else. What we need is coverage in which she is the subject that people are talking or writing about. Bearcat (talk) 21:19, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Bearcat (talk) 21:14, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Hi Bearcat I recognise this likely seem like the "naming and shaming" thing. I actually found him while researching https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Uranium_mining_in_the_Bancroft_area mostly in a history book that I bought for the purposes of wikipedia contributions. I tend to write articles about uranium mining in the Bancroft area where he is notable for extending the operations the mine that largely contributed the economy of the region. The criminal alegations were a bit of a surprise, but I considered they added to his notability. CT55555 (talk) 21:21, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Generally speaking, the baseline for inclusion in Wikipedia is not just "local person whose local significance can be referenced to a local history book, the end" — while it's not completely impossible for local figures to get into Wikipedia (we do have some articles about mayors and city councillors, for example), the bar generally requires a reason why their notability could credibly be said to expand beyond the exclusively local, such as by having a plainly unusual volume or depth or geographic range of coverage that goes far beyond just what thousands upon thousands of other people doing the same job in other towns could likely also show. Generally speaking, don't write like your audience is the person who lives next door to you and is looking for information about your own hometown — assume your audience is on the other side of the world, and write an article that demonstrates a reason why somebody in Sweden, India or Japan would feel like they'd learned something useful and informative from reading it. That is, don't just verify that a local figure existed: demonstrate a reason why his existence was so significant that an international encyclopedia would need to maintain an article about him. Bearcat (talk) 21:40, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Hi and thanks Bearcat for that advice. I probably did get a bit local with my lens here. I think I'll delete the criminal bit, rewrite with that global lens, see if it can stand up through the AfC process without the criminal stuff and take it from there. I was mainly worried that you thought this was a bad faith WP:ATTACK kinda situation, it's not. I pretty much had this exact same conversation at WP:TEA a week ago, but it concluded with me thinking the mining/community stuff made notability, so I moved ahead. CT55555 (talk) 22:04, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Hi Bearcat I've rewritten with the global lens. I wondered what you think, should I resubmit? should I keep the criminal allegations in or out? I recognize it's not your job to mentor me here, so of course no pressure CT55555 (talk) 22:53, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Theroadislong and thanks for the very speedy review. Can you help me understand your conclusions please? I've included an article about this from Canada's most popular newspaper (Toronto Star), it's hardly a passing mention. He was also on the front page of the Toronto Metro. How can be be covered in the most popular national newspaper and be on the front page of another, reported on (indeed briefly) by others and not be notable? Hi Theroadislong I hope it's OK to keep it here, this is too much for comments, I think. I did check on WP:ONEEVENT rule when doing this one, but after reading it, the event is about him, so I decided to proceed. Do you think I should change it to "MV's rejection of his certificate" type article? The following line was what prompted me to take the path I took "When an individual is significant for their role in a single event, it may be unclear whether an article should be written about the individual, the event or both" I didn't see anything that says people notable for one event are not notable, just discussion if the article should be about them or the event. Right? They are still notable (just for one event)? CT55555 (talk) 17:34, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
PS i.e. People notable for one event do have articles - Lee Harvey Oslwald is notable for one event CT55555 (talk) 17:37, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
we generally should avoid having an article on a person when each of the three criteria is met:

If reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event. If that person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual. Biographies in these cases can give undue weight to the event and conflict with neutral point of view. In such cases, it is usually better to merge the information and redirect the person's name to the event article. If the event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented. John Hinckley Jr., for example, has a separate article because the single event he was associated with, the Reagan assassination attempt, was significant and his role was both substantial and well documented. Feel free to re-submit if you disagree, I'm happy to leave it for another reviewer. Theroadislong (talk) 17:47, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi Theroadislong I'm not yet agreeing or disagreeing, still trying to learn (I'm still relatively new here). What I remain uncertain about is that it seems that your quote implies there is a bigger article about the event. There is not. No doubt the individual is not notable in any other way, but there is no main event article. Should I create that instead then? i.e. the guidelines seem to present us with a choice for one-event-people of article about person or article about event rather then article or not article. Right? Hi TheBirdsShedTears I note that WP:TOOSOON is an essay, not a policy. I think the correct policy is the general notability guidelines. And in the context of Reuters, NYT and Al Jazeera reporting on them, I am surprised if anyone doesn't consider them notable. CT55555 (talk) 21:59, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Press release, announcements, and routine press coverage are not sufficient to establish notability. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 22:06, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
I strongly agree. @TheBirdsShedTears and again refer you to the three mainstream news articles about them in the world's most credible news sources (none of which are press releases or announcements or routine coverage). CT55555 (talk) 22:10, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
