I just wanted to thank you for cleaning up the Editions of the Talmud template, I couldn't figure out why articles in which the template was paced, showed up in the Jews and Judaism Template category. Magister Scienta (talk) 20:17, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello, i am following your successful work with the bot. Can you tell me how to edit with bot on python that page to change the editor seemed not a bot, same as you do in AzWiki? Vago (talk) 07:29, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Maintenance categories
Could I ask you to clarify how to actually get User:Avicennasis/catpage out of an otherwise empty maintenance category from a previous month (i.e. Category:Uncategorized stubs from June 2011) so that I can delete it? To be honest, I'm not entirely sure that the page is actually working quite the way you intended it to; as near as I can tell, it never rolled into the new July maintenance categories, or out of the June ones, when the month actually changed over — with the result that we now have some July maintenance cats that are empty, and some June ones that are stuck with your page as the only thing keeping them from being deletable as empty categories. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 07:06, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Ah! Forgot about that! A null edit should be all it needs - looks like all the June pages are gone, should all be July now. Avicennasis @ 08:30, 30 Sivan 5771 / 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. You're right, that did the trick. Bearcat (talk) 09:33, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
GOCE drive invitation
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

User:Avicennasis/catpage
You may delete User:Avicennasis/catpage. It is not needed any more. Debresser (talk) 00:00, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'll look over the "empty" cat page on August 1st or 2nd, and see if any empty current months are showing up. :-) If not, I'll delete it. Avicennasis @ 00:46, 24 Tamuz 5771 / 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- And? Just interesting whether I am right and all works fine. Debresser (talk) 09:04, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like it's still needed - there are a few current month categories (like Category:Use Canadian English from August 2011) that are empty and still showing up in Category:Wikipedia monthly maintenance categories that are empty. Avicennasis @ 16:31, 1 Av 5771 / 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- But both Category:Use Canadian English from August 2011 and Category:Wikipedia monthly maintenance categories that are empty are empty... Debresser (talk) 19:38, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Wikipedia monthly maintenance categories that are empty isn't empty any more. It now has some July categories. But no August categories. Which means things are working the way they are supposed to be, if you ask me. Another thing is that I noticed that July categories don't exhibit the speedy deletion notice the way June or older categories do. I'll ask Rich Farmbrough why that is. I'd like to ask you to keep things the way they are in the mean time. Debresser (talk) 11:02, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- I asked him here, but Wikimania is going ot keep him from answering for some time. Debresser (talk) 11:06, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Wikipedia monthly maintenance categories that are empty still had some current-month titles in it when I first checked. All the current-month categories (including empty ones) seem to have left it. The only thing I can think of is that the current month categories (like Category:Use Canadian English from August 2011) showed up in Category:Wikipedia monthly maintenance categories that are empty at first because they were created in July, and so weren't the current month at the time. A null edit seems to have fixed that, though. So, perhaps the catpage isn't needed, just a null edit run-through at the beginning of the month. I can handle that. :-) I'll leave the catpage as-is, in it's disabled state. Avicennasis @ 11:20, 2 Av 5771 / 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Interesting. I mean the suspected reason the August categories showed up at first. I see two possible ways of fixing that, apart from a null-edit. 1. Time heals all wounds, and it is possible that they would have disappeared by themselves within a few hours or days. 2. Future categories could be excluded. Although that does not make sense, because it goes contrary to the whole idea of this category. Perhaps Rich will have some other idea, when he'll get around to looking at this. Debresser (talk) 11:30, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Ambassador Program: assessment drive
Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.
In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.
Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.

Film Trailer becomes Trailer (promotion)? Incorrect identifier
The article now titled Trailer (promotion) is entirely about MOVIE trailers, their history, content and usage, not book trailers, game trailers, TV show or concert event promos. If there is any justification to change its name, wouldn't it be to redirect to Movie Trailer or Trailer (Movie), replacing "film" with "movie" since in today's movie industry some MOVIES are not completed on film stock? Let me know if you want me to move this question to the article's talk page. I just wanted to make sure you saw it. Thanks! WikiBob47 (talk) 15:35, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

declined deletion of Talk:Rangapur, India
Sorry for not explaining my declining your speedy-tag there. I added a note in the edit-history explaining it now. If there's a problem with a banned editor making a mess, probably need to undo/revert/reverse lots more than just deleting one talk-page redirect:( Maybe file at WP:ANI to get some admins' help? DMacks (talk) 01:51, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- No worries. My thoughts were to get the redirect pages deleted, then ask WP:Wikiproject India if the new titles were acceptable or not - if so, the talk pages can be deleted under G5 - if not, the talk pages need to be deleted so the content can be moved back. :-) I figured I'd just tag it since it'll need deleted either way. (section directly above is related, FYI.) Thanks for the heads-up! Avicennasis @ 01:56, 16 Av 5771 / 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Re: Mandippal Jandu
Hi fellow editor, I have noticed that this, article seems to be attacked in a similar way by persistent Vandals. I added protection to it, which you cited as inncorect. Please could you advise me as to the correct protection for the page? Thanks SH 11:34, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sure. The template you added doesn't actually protect the page - it just tells people the page is protected, even though it's not. The correct way to get an article protected is to ask an admin at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection to protect it for you. Avicennasis @ 16:33, 19 Av 5771 / 16:33, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassadors: Time to join pods
Hello! If you're planning to be an active Online Ambassador for the upcoming academic term, now is the time to join one or more pods. (A pod consists of the instructor, the Campus Ambassadors, and the Online Ambassadors for single class.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explains the expectations for being part of a pod as an Online Ambassador. (The MOU for pods in Canada is essentially the same.) In short, the role of Online Ambassadors this term consists of:
- Working closely with the instructor and Campus Ambassadors, providing advice and perspective as an experienced Wikipedian
- Helping students who ask for it (or helping them to find the help they need)
- Watching out for the class as a whole
- Helping students to get community feedback on their work
This replaces the 1-on-1 mentoring role for Online Ambassadors that we had in previous terms; rather than being responsible for individual students (some of whom don't want or help or are unresponsive), Online Ambassadors will be there to help whichever students in their class(es) ask for help.
You can browse the upcoming courses here: United States; Canada. More are being added as new pods become active and create their course pages.
Once you've found a class that you want to work with—especially if you some interest or expertise in the topic area—you should sign the MOU listing for that class and get in touch with the instructor. We're hoping to have at least two Online Ambassadors per pod, and more for the larger classes.
If you're up for supporting any kind of class and would like me to assign you to a pod in need of more Online Ambassadors, just let me know.

PS: There are still a lot of student articles from the last term that haven't been rated. Please rate a few and update the list!
Just to let you know I've changed the speedy deletion criteria for Totaphine from WP:G1 to WP:G3 because the nonsense criteria only covers things like repeating characters or a jumble of random words. If you can work out what is being said then it isn't nonsense. --Mrmatiko (talk) 08:50, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Category change
Hello, I don't understand why you reverted my correction to the category listing for Bernard Fernow. As Dean of the New York State College of Forestry at Cornell he had little to do with the later New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University, predecessor to today's State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF). Could you explain the rationale for your change, please? I'm rather frustrated by this category change process, for which I can find no clear explanation or rationale, other than (incorrectly) lumping together things associated with the former New York State College of Forestry at Cornell with today's SUNY-ESF. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 13:06, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- Category:New York State College of Forestry was moved to Category:State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. It looks like that happened because User:Good Olfactory had suggested the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy. If this was incorrect, you may want to ask them at their talk page. Avicennasis @ 22:06, 22 Av 5771 / 22:06, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for the prompt response and redirect. I'll try contacting User:Good Olfactory. Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 00:35, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Slander and other misuse of Wikipedia
Dear sir, could you be so kind as to explain why you decided to allege that I use sockpuppets? It would appear that you have accused hundreds of people of this offensive and dishonest conduct, often accusing dozens of people within a single minute. It gives the impression of being the work of a 'bot' or some person recklessly copying names from some list without regard to the nature of the allegation being made when you create a page alleging that each of these people have been found to have been using sockpuppets or 'bot' like agents instead of taking the time to make reasoned edits.
As I say, I don't know how you have come to your decision that you needed to make all these pages including the one about me, but I would appreciate if people making such allegations would be kind enough to test their claims first; and would be kind enough as to let the accused persons know of the allegations against them. Thank you for any consideration of this issue.
P.S. Wikipedia use to be a nice idea but in 2004 I and another editor became targets of a tag-team wishing to promote their POV regarding people of Jewish and people of dark skinned heritage, Wikipedia is not a pleasant environment. More recently an editor intent on pushing his Jakarta POV has continued citing his interpretations as if they were fact while engaging in what appears to be personal attacks. Who created the page "Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Daeron" and who is protecting their POV about the New York Agreement? I still hope Wikipedia might happen one day get better.Daeron (talk) 20:50, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Nowikify template
Thanks for your assistance on the template; however, the change breaks the parameters. There were two parameters for the template. The first parameter was unnamed and was used to include the articl it refers to. The second parameter was named "sig" and was used to include a signature in the template. Do you have any idea how this can be fixed? Ryan Vesey Review me! 19:54, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Possible bot error on zerknüllt
Hi, Avicennasis. Avicbot might have made an error: it added {{uncategorized}} to Zerknüllt in this edit even though the article already has {{Genetics-stub}}. The latter template invokes a category template. Or should an article with a "stub" category still get another category? —Ben Kovitz (talk) 10:47, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Stub templates don't count - an article should be in at least one "content" category - stub categories are moreso maintenance/tracking categories. So, it's a good edit. Avicennasis @ 10:59, 24 Av 5771 / 10:59, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. I'll put it in a content category. And thanks for running the bot! —Ben Kovitz (talk) 11:20, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Migration of "Film cover fur" template
Greetings, Avicennasis. I noticed that on some film related images, you have updated the fair use rationale template from {{Film cover fur}} to {{Non-free use rationale poster| Media=film}}, using your AvicAWB account. Here is one example. Actually, {{Film cover fur}} should be migrated to {{Non-free use rationale video cover}} instead. {{Film cover fur}} and {{Non-free use rationale video cover}} are for DVD and videotape covers, but {{Non-free use rationale poster| Media=film}} is for movie posters. The proof of this is that {{Film cover fur}} now redirects to {{Non-free use rationale video cover}}. Just click on this link to see for yourself: Template:Film cover fur. (If you reply here I will see what you say.) — Mudwater (Talk) 23:47, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Kurt Yaeger Edits
Hello, Why would you remove a picture and the bmx sponsors from Kurt Yaeger? I understand the outside links. No one has explained to me when its ok to use an outside link in the article. I read that it is ok if there is no wiki page to link to. Id appreciate any direction with this one. Thank you. --Lameattack (talk) 02:40, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- As you can see from my edit, I didn't remove any pictures. I did, however, removed the sponsors list, as it seems more promotional and not encyclopedic. I wouldn't object if you re-added them in a paragraph, as opposed to a list. For example, "Kurt has had many sponsors for his shows, including company Foo, Bar, Baz and Qux." Take a look at Dave_Mirra#Sponsorship for some idea. As for the links - we should never have outside links in an article, really. Now, we can make a red-link for a company/film/whatever if it doesn't exists - example, Sedona's Rule. Outside links should only be in an "External links" - and we also shouldn't have tons of links, there, either. Avicennasis @ 15:37, 25 Av 5771 / 15:37, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the examples. I will continue to refine/work and include the edits you made. But I do want to clarify that in your edit you did delete a picture that was located right below the sponsor heading. That is what made me feel you did a half-hazard job and weren't paying attention. So I reverted back. --Lameattack (talk) 22:26, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Question
I have observed some pretty remarkable contributions from this account. I am curious, why are you not an administrator. Pardon that you have struck me as the kind of editor who could be a good one, and that you seem qualified by a cursory review. I am working on an essay, and I believe you are of the adman class. I'd like to see you become an admin. This essay might explain, but you are exactly the kind of editor I had in mind. My76Strat (talk) 07:17, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the kind words. My main reason for not running, I'll readily admit, is the RfA process. Frankly, I find it rather scary. I've seen some rather nasty comments over the years and some great editors torn apart on occasion at RfA, and I don't want to be in those shoes. I like to think I've done a lot of good work for Wikipedia. I'd hate to see someone dig up some errors I made forever ago and watch the oppose !votes pile on because of it. Perhaps, if some alternative to RfA was created, I'd try for it. Barring that, I'd need a lot of moral support to go through a regular RfA. Dear Avicennasis, You were really kind to help me with the reference section in the article. Now I just wonder what else can be done to get it accepted. I've added quotations, references, pronunciation and more factual information and run out of ideas. Dahlia really is an important character in the Southern Vampire Mysteries and she can't be described through Sookie because in the Dahlia's stories another (both geographically and personally) point of view is represented. There's also the question of uploading an image. Would you, please, help me with it. The image in question is the one with the link in the "character box" (http://i.usatoday.net/life/_photos/2011/02/10/daylightx-large.jpg) Thank you in advance Severenika (talk) 13:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC) Severenika
Project tags / DisambigProject
Hi, ever thought about using a bot (Wikipedia:Bot requests) to add this template to all pages in the Category:Disambiguation pages? Might save you some work...--Teilzeittroll (talk) 16:22, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have a couple requests open right now. I'm just sprinkling them in a little by little, though. I think that's best for DisambigProject. Avicennasis @ 16:33, 10 Elul 5771 / 16:33, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- That might be. Keep on sprinkling! Greetings --Teilzeittroll (talk) 16:55, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
orpan disambig page??
Hi,
you have added an orphan template to Agmon. Is not it strange? I thought the policy is to avoid links to disambig pages (they exist for the convenience of the user, not to have incoming links), so how can it be an orphan?
Thanks, Sasha (talk) 19:31, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- I was checking for orphan links to non-disamb pages - and as you can see in my edit not 3 minutes later, I added the disambig tag (which should have been there before.) Avicennasis @ 19:34, 11 Elul 5771 / 19:34, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- thank you very much!! Sasha (talk) 19:37, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Jasper County Courthouse (Newton, Iowa)
I expanded Jasper County Courthouse (Newton, Iowa) and nominated it for DYK. Since you started the article, do you want me to add you to the nomination? SL93 (talk) 00:00, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm glad to here it's been expanded and up for DYK. Since it was pretty much just a few templates and two sentences when I started it, (and most of that was semi-automated), I don't really feel that my name needs to be on the nomination. I do appreciate the offer, though. Keep up the great work! Avicennasis @ 00:12, 18 Elul 5771 / 00:12, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
AvicBot thoughts
I just happened across a string of double redirects your bot fixed which were the result of vandalism (e.g. this) - have you thought about putting some sort of delay for that task to avoid that problem? I haven't looked for any discussions on this topic beyond scanning that particular BRFA, so I apologize if this has already been discussed. VernoWhitney (talk) 20:17, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how - AvicBots' scripts (and AFAIK most other double-redirect-fixing bots) just make API calls for all double-redirects. Trying to work-in a "last edited" parameter seems to return the last time the double-redirect was edited, (e.g., this edit, from 2009) not the time of the edit that caused the double-redirect. It certainly might be possible, but it's a bit above my head on that one. Even so, this kind of page-to-redirect vandalism isn't too common, as far as I know, (correct me if I'm wrong) so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Film posters
Any chance of updating some file description pages as follows :
- Search string: {{film poster fur
- Replace to : {{Non-free use rationale poster|Media=film
- File list : http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Film_poster_fur&limit=5000
This could be done rapidly with AWB.
Thanks in advance.

In standardising rationale naming, there are some rationales that got renamed twice hence a request as follows:
- Search String {{Non-free use rationale album

- Doing... - though you may want to submit an edit request to User:AWeenieMan/furme.js - It's the old FurMe that some editors still use - and it looks like it adds redirect tags, instead of the proper titles. Avicennasis @ 13:00, 22 Elul 5771 / 13:00, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Dummy edit
In reference to this reply, you can actually purge the cache in different ways. First off, you can purge it, by adding ?action=purge to the end of a url, when it is in wiki/ARTICLE. If you are in a w/index.php?title=ARTICLE page, add &action=purge to the end. Another way you can do this is by going to edit. Then, without really having edited anything in the editbox, save the page. It won't show up as an edit in the history, but it will still clear the cache of that page. Just wanted to let you know. Heya, about that time display
שלום חברי,
How do you get your sig to display the Hebrew date like that? Also (unrelated to wiki), given the association on one of your userboxes, what is your opinion of "Anonymous" (I am pretty sure it's just a bunch of organised guys, with a leader, claiming to be Anon) vowing vengeance upon various New York-based institutions as they did today? Classic case of butthurt? Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 01:44, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hey! For the Hebrew date, I use a time parser function of
{{#time: xjj xjF xjY}}
which produces21 Cheshvan 5785
.
- As for Anonymous - I actually hadn't heard of this "Day of Vengeance" thing until you mentioned it. My bet is that it is unrelated to the actual group, and is moreso an undertaking of script kiddies with (what they think are) beliefs that are shared with the group. Avicennasis @ 03:57, 24 Elul 5771 / 03:57, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oh neat. I am afraid I know nothing of these functions nor could I hope to understand how Wikipedia knew to translate it to the Hebrew month name (albeit in Latin characters), but with your permission, I would like to use it in my signature.
- Oh yes, I highly doubt they have anything to do with Anon other than the name. I mean designated leaders, an actual altruistic goal, openly expressing strong negative emotion in response to retaliation, and to top of it off, freaking white knighting! No way this is the same Anon (though I only know of them from what I have read and would never claim to actually know what I'm talking about). The point about them being script kiddies is why they will fail of course at whatever they attempt as most of them are idealists driven by emotion, a false view of the purpose of what Anon is, and some idea of rebelling against authority who are probably installing programs to make their comps zombies for some of the more experienced members. It's people like this that killed ED (with articles like the Uwe Boll one) imo. At least that malware they installed should be a good reward for their efforts. /rant Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 24 Elul 5771 04:19, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Feel free to add it to your sig. And it returns the English name for the Hebrew month here on EnWp because the server language is set in English. If you try the same parser on HeWp, you'd get the proper "24 אלול 5771"string.

- What really gave this "Anon" thing away was when I read that they are are planning a "peacefully yet forcefully protest"... Heh. Not to mention the fact that a website was set up with a WHOIS guard. (really, easily traceable once a subpoena comes into play. I mean, come on!)
- Anyway. Let me know if know need help with this (or any other) parser function. They can be pretty neat (though a real pain to learn/use at times.) Avicennasis @ 04:53, 24 Elul 5771 / 04:53, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I shall do so now (though it appears when I tested it before, I forgot to remove it, so I guess I do nothing :p) Ah, though I still don't get why it puts in Hebrew xD (must be the j's stand for Jewish [calender])
- Indeed, true Anon would mercilessly destroy their target (like that idiot who beat up his cat or the chick who broiled her cat). Oh lol, now the funniest part about that will be the stories that follow about the mass arrests and crying basement dwellers bawwwing (there won't be a wambulance big enough to contain them (yeah I know I'm rounding off a lot of tired old memes :p)). Largest number of morons v& at once ever I'll bet. I personally think that some brave Anon should hack their site and basically humiliate them (now that would be funny).
- Will do mate, thanks very much, and ya, if they can convert these odd codes into things like that, they must be something special (I further demonstrate my cluelessness on this matter). I now have to go deal with a seemingly irrate Russian Jew (or ignore him and do actual work which is also good :p) May you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life for a good year (though I realise that is next week; four day weekend \o/). Malankara Metropolitans
User:Crusoe8181 has made a number of corrections that are ridiculus and so are unaceptable.
- Because you have also played a part in it, please see the letter below that I am sending to Crusoe8181:
Sorry to note your recent changes of titles of Malankara Metropolitans were done without any consultation or warning. You seem to assume that your corrections also fit into the category Wikipedia:Naming conventions (clergy) {Syriac bishops} and {Eastern Orthodox metropolitans, archbishops and bishops} Names of bishops given in these categaries are that of Roman Catholic Churches in Kerala, and not that of Malankara Metropolitans. It seems that you have not read the introductory part of naming conventions that tells you about ancient historical church clergy at the higher level. Also please remember that the title “Mar” must be used with their names and should not be left out.
These new titles given to our bishops are ridiculus and insulting. Hope you have not done this delibrately.Neduvelilmathew (talk) 08:16, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Update on courses and ambassador needs
Hello, Ambassadors!
I wanted to give you one last update on where we are this term, before my role as Online Facilitator wraps up at the end of this week.
