- I have fixed the bracket issues and tidied up the references. I'm not sure what image you mean, but you'd have to request the cover to be uploaded to Wikipedia at WP:Files for upload before you can display it in the album article. Huon (talk) 00:14, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

- The bot isn't smart enough to tell which mismatched bracket you caused; thus it lists all mismatched brackets - then you can take a look and either determine that some are false positives such as the A) and B) or fix the other issues as well while you're at it.

- The bot is an automated program that notifies editors about mismatched brackets. It cannot help you in any other way. Also, that someone cited a reliable source confirming that the airline ceased operations. Removing reliably sourced content is not acceptable, edit-warring for that purpose even less so. - For your additions you should cite reliable sources such as peer-reviewed scholarly papers, and you should use footnotes to clarify which of your sources supports which of the article's claims. See WP:Referencing for beginners on how to easily cite your sources. Comment/question: I assert that RefBot is incorrect as I undid a change where an editor tried to go from a citation template (that was created by reflinks) to a simple refrence. Are you saing that that RefLinks puts in bad references?
Hasteur (talk) 01:13, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- @Hasteur: - Reflinks frequently makes incorrect suggestions. Per the introduction at the top of the Reflinks window, "the tool has to be checked over manually to make sure that the references are filled in correctly by the tool. You may have to remove some extra information from the template and add extra details if the tool is not able to find it for you." For example, if you try running Reflinks on Draft:Jerusalem (documentary film) now, it will try to add

(but not the date) for the Washington Post article. GoingBatty (talk) 01:21, 22 December 2013 (UTC)- @Hasteur: Specifically, when you used Reflinks, one of the references ended up with the following in the citation template:
"author= | |url=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/17/jerusalem-movie-national-geographic_n_3936483.html"
. Note the in between two vertical bars. That text, or any other text without an "=" in between two vertical bars, creates an "unnamed parameter" error. ReferenceBot was correct. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:50, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

- A "diff" shows the "difference" between two revisions of a page; for example, this is the diff the bot notified you about. See Help:Diff for more on that topic. Regarding the bracket issue, you had opening square brackets for your external links, but not the corresponding closing brackets. For example, the code [http://google.com/ Google] will produce: Google. I fixed that and also removed some press releases (which are not reliable secondary sources since they're not subject to editorial oversight and usually written by an involved party) and some other sources that only mentioned the Association in passing and didn't confirm what they were cited for. - The bot has no way of determining whether a file name is supposed to have mismatched brackets or not. In this case the file name indeed has mismatched brackets, so it's a false positive. - Writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged due to the inherent conflict of interest. That said, the article you wrote about yourself didn't have any relevant content, no third-party sources, no indication of notability, and the disambiguating qualifier lacked a parenthesis. I explained in my check-in comment that I was fixing the infobox markup. I guess I don't expect a bot to read and understand check-in comments. But it might be able to look at a series of edits and determine which one (or which ones) broke the markup.

I expect the bot could check the edit for a "mobile edit" tag and use the links accordingly, but I doubt that's beneficial enough to be worth the effort. - The edit created a URL error. URL values in citations need to start with http:// or something similar. Starting a URL with www... does not work. The diff report is slightly misreporting my change, making it look like I possibly added an initial closing </source> and omitting one at the end. That's just the diff tool getting confused, as far as I can tell.
Lemme know if you need more help, or want me to change anything?

- You had put your remark within an HTML comment, thus hiding it from view. Your edit to C (programming language) was reverted by Johnuniq, who felt that the tone was inappropriate and that it had too many spelling and grammar issues. The lack of reliable sources also was a problem. The brackets pointed out by the bot, however, were false positives that you can safely ignore; the bot keeps an eye on "<>" because they're used in HTML tags (such as the comment you put your remarks into), where a mismatch may have vast effects, but these were meant not to appear in matched pairs. 172.1.4.91 (talk) 19:44, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for fixing the bracket issue. However, disambiguation pages are meant to disambiguate between articles with similar names. Firstly, I doubt the German film is commonly named "Cinderella" (and not "Aschenputtel"), and secondly, we don't have an English article on that film anyway. Since even the German Wikipedia shows no indication of significant coverage in reliable sources, I don't think that film is notable enough for an article in the first place. Huon (talk) 21:06, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I disagree that is must be of the same name, because it is based on the story but of a variation/version of it with a different name. Otherwise, why is Frozen (a loose animated adaptation of the Snow Queen) included in the disambiguation of The Snow Queen? And since there is no English article of the German adaption of Aschenputtel, then it could be made, right? And "Ever After: A Cinderella Story" is also an adaption of the story, it doesn't have to begin with Cinderella. Disambiguation pages are for everything based on the material source, otherwise you're keeping people from finding out about such stuff. I didn't even know about the German film until I stumbled upon it on YouTube. And at mentioning it to someone online, even he didn't know about it. Just because there is no indication of "significant coverage" doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. 172.1.4.91 (talk) 00:08, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- From WP:DABRELATED: "Do not include articles unless the term being disambiguated is actually described in the target article." Rather unsurprisingly, I don't see the term "Cinderella" being described in the German film article; even if it were, disambiguation is not meant to include foreign-language Wikipedias. And as I said above, I do not think the film is notable enough for an article by the English Wikipedia's standards; significant coverage in reliable independent sources is required for an article. Huon (talk) 00:32, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, it is. I see "Cinderella" written several times in the English translation of the article (put in the url in Google Translate and you'll see). In fact, even the title is "Cinderella (2010)". That makes me realize that Aschenputtel in the German language is Cinderella in English. 172.1.4.91 (talk) 01:09, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

- @1houstonian: The bot left you a message because you had a surplus opening square bracket. However, your addition has since been reverted because the content was not supported by independent, reliable sources. For example, letters or press releases by Stockton himself clearly are not independent, and they cannot be used to support content that is arguably promotional. For example, I'm pretty sure his political opponents would point out that the low energy prices Stockton promotes are conductive not only to job growth but also pollution and waste of irreplacable resources, or that, in the US energy context, "low power cost" may well be code for subsidizing the big oil companies. Of course we cannot take the word of Stockton's political opponents either; we need reliable third-party sources such as newspaper articles for an appropriate assessment of his energy policies and their impact. - You did not provide the URL, thus there was no actual web link. Furthermore, an interview performed by Mihat Bereket is not a good source in the first place; what we need is not his own work, but others reporting about him. Huon (talk) 21:19, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi BracketBot, I think/hope I fixed both faux pas.
It's my first time in Wiki. Have you any idea how I can post a full biography? I submitted an article with just sources but don't know if that's correct.
Cheers
Bill Graffitinucular (talk) 17:00, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- You can try the Article Wizard, but to establish that the artist is notable enough for an article in the first place, you will have to show that the artist has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of him, such as articles in newspapers or music magazines. Huon (talk) 23:59, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Hi there can you check out my references for the James Martineau page too? chees and thanks Mike — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.144.168.82 (talk) 01:01, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think that paper has a digital object identifier in the firsts place; it predates digital publishing. David Biddulph fixed the DOI error. You can add a separate "publisher=" parameter for the publisher, but for scholarly journals that's not all that important. Huon (talk) 23:59, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello, BracketBot - this is my first time interacting with you. As per your message, I went back to the "Ferries" section which I edited and re-checked what I had written. The existing hyperlink for New York Water Taxi that immediately followed my entry for the SeaStreak ferry service appeared to be in order with the double brackets in the right places, even though on your message one of them was in red. I am certain that I did not do anything to change or alter that particular hyperlink, which wasn't my work, but just to be on the safe side, I re-did the double brackets around New York Water Taxi and then opened it on a separate page and it seemed to open just fine.
I did NOT do anything with the reference hyperlink for the Amtrak survey, as that was nowhere near where I had edited and I do not want to risk screwing something up.
Thanks

- What you did was remove one of the square brackets at the beginning of the New York Water Taxi link that followed your addition. That has since been fixed by Vcohen. That said, the bot isn't all that smart and has an easier time telling that something might have gone wrong than determining what exactly happened. Thus it will point out all mismatched brackets, not just those you caused. I have removed the surplus "Amtrak" bracket. Huon (talk) 23:59, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Prek Cali is a Albanian National hero. He was an ardent patriot that fought for his landa nd his country. Aside from fighting Slavic aggression in his early years (and keeping a significant portion of Northern Albania from being annexed to Serbia and Montenegro), he is also known for his struggle against the Communist forces under Enver Hoxha. The Malsor forces under Prek Cali were initially successful in keeping the Communists from taking control of Northern Albania, but Enver Hoxha used a priest to lure him into a trap on Palm Sunday, and had him killed. Enver Hoxha used his serbian friends to create lies about him. He didn't cooperate with serbian chetniks, these are just communist lies, because his whole family fought against Serbia offensive, and members of his family were killed by serbs. Also Albanian scholars deny's that he cooperated with chetnicks, because they found materials which says that Enver Hoxha wanted to manipulate his biography. These "references" which has been wrote by "Antidiskriminator" were used only during Communism,so they are just big lies created by communism. You can search about him,if you dont trust me!
- @AlbertBikaj: That article is a mess in dire need of copyediting, and to be honest, your English doesn't quite seem sufficient to write good prose. Also, if the above is your reply to an automated comment about mismatched parentheses, you will find it very difficult to write about the topic from a neutral point of view. Huon (talk) 23:59, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
My English its not perfect i know that! But please dont use references of communist or fascist yugoslavian or albanian. Because these story's are just created by communist propaganda,he fought against serbs and ottomans, and and against communists. He is National Hero and not a traitor like you have wrote. He never cooperated with Chetniks! I have read a lot about him,and of course in Communism he was "Enemy" ,because he was against them. He will be always remembered as a Hero. And also you should know that he is officially National Hero of Albania,Honor of Nation, and Martyr of Democracy. I'm neutral, you are not neutral, because using communist propaganda is not neutralism! PLEASE! AlbertBikaj (talk)

Thank you for drawing attention to the dead link on this page in the "Personal Life" section. You were quite right to point to the dead link, which I tried to reinstate, but discovered a redirection problem that I could not resolve. Accordingly, I have removed the whole sentence to which this relates, including the citation, until I can find an alternative source.
Kind regards.

Could you please help me understand what the issue is so that I can correct it. I have looked at the linked page. I assume it is one or all of the following:
- You feel this is self promotion - Seems like it is no more self promotion than what was there so maybe that is not it
- I put in too many external links - If this is it I would be happy to delete the links

Mikejbst (talk) 14:43, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Mikejbst: The issue the bot notified you about is that some parentheses were mismatched - you had added an opening parenthesis without a corresponding closing parenthesis. However, Sean.holyland removed your additions because what you added was copyrighted by SIL International - a copyright violation. Huon (talk) 22:26, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

- @Shiva2586: The problem BracketBot notified you about is that the "url=" parameter in citation templates requires only the URL, without any additional square brackets. A more basic problem is that YouTube is not a reliable source in the first place; basing entire sections on nothing but YouTube videos is not appropriate. Comment/question: Hi, I hope that the issue if the broken line I was notified about has been fixed. I have another request: when I created the page the system was called European Flood Alert System but in the meantime has been renamed European Flood Awareness System. I don't seem to be able to touch on the name of the page though. Is there a possibility to rename the page or would we have to delete the one and create a new one? Thanks for your help Thielen-delPozo (talk) 12:08, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Thielen-delPozo: It's possible to move the page to another title; I have done so. However, while you clearly are an expert on the topic, I doubt you're the only expert, yet every single paper about EFAS you added to the page was co-authored by you. Such self-citations may give an impression of self-promotion. Surely you can provide a more balanced overview of the literature? Also, you shouldn't just add the sources at the end; you should summarize in your own words (to avoid copyright issues) what those sources have to say about EFAS. Right now for much of the content it's unclear which source (if any) it's based on. Finally, I'll re-add a first sentence that gives a short explanation of what the EFAS is.
