Jennifer Blessing leads a tour of "Photo-Poetics" show

Art+Feminism | Train the Trainers | 16 Feb 2016

[edit]

Wikipedia's gender trouble is well documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that only 8.5% of its contributors are female. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not: content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

The tools of change are in your hands. Join us on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 for Train the Trainer at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. After a tour of the exhibition, "Photo-Poetics: An Anthology," by curators Jennifer Blessing and Susan Thompson, Art+Feminism will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian and share the best practices for writing entries that stick. After the training, we will make edits on pages related to "Photo-Poetics: An Anthology." After Train the Trainer, we encourage you to share your new skills for the empowerment of your community.

A particular focus of this event is improving representation of Women in photography.

Organized by Sian Evans/Art Libraries Society of North America's Women and Art Special Interest Group, Jacqueline Mabey/failed projects, and Michael Mandiberg in collaboration with POWarts.
