DYK for Daisy Yen Wu
On 19 November 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Daisy Yen Wu, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that Daisy Yen Wu helped establish the new field of nutrition research at Peking Union Medical College? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Daisy Yen Wu. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Christmas DYK
Hi, we are within six weeks of Christmas, so I think we can start collecting special occasion hooks. I noticed Hallelujah (Carrie Underwood song), if you want to nominate it. If not, I could but this is not close to my typical subject matter (It does need a little expansion to be eligible which shouldn't be too difficult.) MB 22:09, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- And what would it have to do with Christmas? ... other than the wish for sales? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:44, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- Well, it's a song on a Christmas album, so I assume it is a Christmas song. MB 05:12, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- I guess Christmas just means gift-giving for you ;) - Yoninah, I prepared one potentially for Christmas mentioning Psalm 148, - could you please do the Hebrew text. If we find more it has even DYK potential. I have Beethoven on my mind (16 December) and Christmas, and have no spare time for a cinematographer, - any idea there? Imho the sheer length of family ownership of a paper is much more boring than links to two fascinating films readers may NOT know. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:04, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Florence Lewis (Mrs. Sidney)
I am pulling my hair out. Trying to work through a bunch of activists that were involved in the poll tax movement. One of them is clearly notable, but I'm having trouble pinning down her dates.[1],[2],[3],[4]. Her husband owned a furniture business in Miami[5] and she was very involved with the National Council of Jewish Women. I know she was still living in Miami in 1980, but after that?[6] Wondering if you have any leads on sources that could help. SusunW (talk) 23:33, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- @SusunW: what dates specifically do you want? You have access to Newspapers.com and FamilySearch. What more can I provide? Yoninah (talk) 23:44, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- Just trying to figure out when she was born and if she is dead. I thought there might be Jewish archives that would be helpful since she was on the national board. I cannot find anything in FamilySearch at all that would help clarify who she was initially, i.e. what is her maiden name? It's so weird, because we know where she went to school, and a lot about her life but beginning and ending are a big zero. SusunW (talk) 23:49, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- @SusunW: Here her maiden name is Axelrod and here is the geni.com page for her. Yoninah (talk) 23:56, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. Sorry, had to be away for several hours. I truly appreciate it. That cracks it open. SusunW (talk) 05:15, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- I am amazed at how much I've uncovered. It is vital to knowing someone's name to tell their story. I strongly suspect her husband changed his name from Levy to Lewis, but can't prove that, so I am not putting it in. Cannot thank you enough for your help. It was invaluable. SusunW (talk) 17:02, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- Don't know if there is anything here for a DYK or not, but she's done. Florence Lewis (activist). Again, thank you. It would not have been possible without your help. SusunW (talk) 20:24, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

DYK re-opening
I would like to ask you to re-open Template:Did you know nominations/Three Warfares. I was not active on Wikipedia for last 4 days and this was my first DYK so I was not aware that it could be rejected.
For alternative hook, I would suggest: ... that "three warfares" is a Chinese Communist Party doctrine which involves using public opinion (or media), psychology and legal means for warfare?

DYK
Hi Yoninah, I was wondering what to do about my DYK nomination Template:Did you know nominations/Subtle is the Lord. I was going to take a break from Wiki for a while and decided to withdraw my nominations in order to avoid wasting anyone's time. I wanted to resubmit this after improving to GA status so that, hopefully, there would be something more catchy to say about it. But now I am not sure if I can create a second nomination, even though it really doesn't say it's against the rules anywhere, it also doesn't give the option. I was wondering if you happen to know what I could do or what the rules on that might be. Thanks! Footlessmouse (talk) 20:51, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Footlessmouse: Frankly, I don't understand what you're doing. You have a long and well-referenced article here. If you don't like the hook angle, ask on the template for other suggestions. As long as a template hasn't been closed, you can continue the nomination. After it's closed, and the article moves to GA status, you would renominate it under a similar name, like Template:Did you know nominations/Subtle is the Lord 2. Meanwhile, I'll remove the withdrawal icon and wait for you to continue with this. Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:39, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- That would be great, thank you so much! I will ask on there for other suggestions and continue reading to see if I find more on my own. I am sorry for wasting any of your time, I really appreciate the help! Footlessmouse (talk) 21:41, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Ruth Williams
Saw the COI tag you posted on Ruth Williams. What should I do to help resolve the issue? I have references for all the sources. I have asked for help from the WikiProject_Guild_of_Copy_Editors to review the article. Happy to have someone else review the whole article and make any changes they think are warranted. I can try to ask other editors that are well respected to review and revise. Any advice you can provide on how best to resolve would be greatly appreciated. But maybe the best thing I can do is nothing. Just not sure how best to proceed. Remember (talk) 17:42, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Barbara L. Kelly
Hello User:Yoninah, you've removed the date of birth of Barbara L. Kelly, an article I have started, because you think that every unsourced information must be deleted. While I understand this approach in principle, it is highly exaggerated to do it here. First of all, I explained in the discussion about the relevant DYK nomination that I received the birth-date from the subject of the article directly. I did not invent it. Secondly, take an arbitrary look around Wikipedia biographies, and you will notice that a very large number, if not the majority, have unsourced dates of birth. If the (bad) overall quality of an article suggests that the information provided should be doubted, then I would understand your action. In this case, you can just trust an experienced WP editor and not be overly critical when there is absolutely no reason. Give it a try and don't be unnecessarily critical. Please.
Further, I took the liberty of looking at a few articles YOU created, and immediately came across a number of articles with unsourced dates of birth. I only mention selectively Nathan Adadi, Ben Zion Abba Shaul, Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach, Nota Schiller, Eliezer Berland, ... It seems like you are expecting standards from others that you don't apply to yourself. Therefore, I kindly ask you to revert the deletion of the date of birth in this article or not to intervene further when I do it. Thanks. – Aklein62 (talk) 20:28, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Aklein62: Thank you for your note. I was only reviewing your article by DYK standards, and we do not post unsourced information on the main page. (If we do, we hear from the people at WP:ERRORS.) The articles you cited that I worked on were not nominated for DYK. Go ahead and restore what you want, but be aware of WP:PSCOI. Best, Yoninah (talk) 20:39, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, Yoninah I've consulted WP:PSCOI and don't see a problem. I have started a series of biographical articles on Irish musicologists, and this is just one of them (the fifth, in fact). I also see the rule "Article subjects require significant coverage in independent reliable sources" as fulfilled even if the date of birth is not from an external source. – Aklein62 (talk) 20:49, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Sara Bullard DYK potential
Hi Yoninah. I recently started an article on writer and sociological researcher Sara Bullard. She is the founding director of Teaching Tolerance (which likely independently meets WP:GNG) and authored 2 widely reviewed books. Not sure if there is a hook here or not but thought there may be DYK potential...no worries if not! TJMSmith (talk) 16:44, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- @TJMSmith: thanks for letting me know. I'll take a look at it tomorrow. Yoninah (talk) 21:43, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- @TJMSmith: Hi again. I did some editing to fix up the page and prepare it for DYK. But you didn't give me enough notice! The article was moved to mainspace on November 23, which means it had to be nominated within 7 days, by November 30. Next time, please give me more notice. Yoninah (talk) 21:48, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- I mistakenly thought it was a 2 week window. My apologies! Nonetheless, I appreciate your edits and always enjoy seeing your DYKs on the main page. TJMSmith (talk) 22:02, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Beethoven
Your comment on DYK is in the middle of one by Gatoclass, - I can't reply there until fixed. Not sure I understand the question. I expect a Google Doodle (they had one for "only" 145 years, the 17th), so I expect people to be aware. Of course each hook I write will mention Beethoven, - my question was if more than one hook per editor might be allowed on such a special occasion. It seems no question anymore, with two sets. Put one in the last on the 16th, and one each in the two on the 17th, and all could be set without exception. I am sorry I even asked. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: My question is, if Gustav Classens is the conductor of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, and the hook is based on that fact, well and good. But if the hook just says that Classens directed some work with staging by so-and-so, the connection with Beethoven will be unclear. If you were nominating a whole group of articles specifically about Beethoven symphonies and Beethoven festivals, it would make a much stronger case for a full set than just a bunch of articles about loosely-connected people. Yoninah (talk) 21:30, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- I planned as few as possible, to avoid monopoly. In the beginning of the year, I had plans to make four compositions a GA, - didn't work. I'm doing to much small stuff. Don't know why you ask about Classens who is already nominated, yes with the orchestra. I didn't say I was making a full set, only that he'd deserve it. (I said so to justify 3 for me alone, but - as explained - that's not even necessary. I'm sorry I asked.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:38, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- Gerda, it's okay if you nominate 3 articles in a special set; we do that all the time for sports days where we have one or two editors who are churning out the articles. I was just continuing the line of questioning as to why we need to devote a whole set to Beethoven on December 17. Other editors were pointing out that this should have been discussed months earlier so perhaps other editors would also contribute articles. You don't have to apologize for anything, but you should be aware that your focus is very narrow on the music articles themselves and not on the larger picture of how DYK works. BTW it would be great if we had a lead picture of Beethoven himself. Yoninah (talk) 21:43, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- Kind of you to say, but I'm not sure others would agree. Sorry, no, I don't want an exception. Every now and then I'm disenchanted with DYK. I was prompted to improve the article of Hella Brock for ITN, - such things can't wait, and get much more attention (13k in 2 days, and more to come for today). I proposed a pic of Beethoven at the beginning of the year (because the plan was to celebrate all year) which wasn't taken. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:10, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- ps: I thought about it and am in the process of expanding the cello sonata. It will be tough to do *5 as 1,7+ when I started, but Beethoven and the piece deserve it. Will keep you posted. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:14, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- article is at 4k+ now, feeling good about that ;) - also about 15k+ views for Hella Brock, - now Jutta Lampe on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:14, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Two more women pictured today, and I'd like to see one more, the artist now in prep 6. I'd give up "my" children's songmaker in the same set if we can't have both (but why not?). For her, it's a memorial, for him, it's kind of promotional.
- Gerda: well, a different editor put in the children's songmaker, and I do think it's a very colorful image, compared to the rather dark Indian artist. I'll move her to a later set. Yoninah (talk) 14:34, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, that's the best solution! - Hebrew for Psalm 148? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:41, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I expanded Psalm 148. Leaving the Musical Settings to you. Can we get it to a 5x expansion? Yoninah (talk) 00:14, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- I hope so, but after Beethoven ;) - I found a book that will hopefully help to get the sonata above the 5* line. I don't like pleading for exceptions ;) As we don't know for sure when the guy was born, we could spread things over 5 sets, 2 on 16 (the likely birthday), 2 on 17 (the baptism day, and one on 18 when for some in the wold, it's still 17. I hope Aza24 will produce another pictured one. - With the book, I could make some more, but will only when asked. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:29, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- Gerda, we need only 60 more characters to get Psalm 148 to a 5x expansion. Yoninah (talk) 18:49, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
- Great, I hoped so, I just had Advent stuff also, and that is for Christmas or anytime, - it's #3 in my to-do-line ;) - Would you just want it in a double hook, or say something special about the psalm? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:55, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
- Gerda, a double hook is fine. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 18:57, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Yoninah, given the current surge in ransomware attacks on schools and hospitals, I wonder if you might want to consider fast-tracking this approved DYK: Ryuk (ransomware)? Just a thought. JGHowes talk 17:28, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

I am very grateful to you for this, because you have helped the rest of us contribute, especially to some of the more deserving, and to some of the more difficult nominations. Storye book (talk) 17:08, 6 December 2020 (UTC) |
- @Storye book: Thank you! Actually, I do sleep, but I spend too many waking hours at DYK! Yoninah (talk) 17:10, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
I support the barnstar! However, can you please take another look at prep 3. We had many New York City buildings, and Jutta Lampe was a legendary actress, - sources use the word, critics remember single moments. If it wasn't for the image, we would take a different hook - then please return it to the noms. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:08, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Gerda the image seems dark to me at thumbnail size. And the hook really isn't the best. You have much more hooky material in the article than having to name-drop. I'll return it to the noms page. Yoninah (talk) 17:11, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- I loved to have any image, and wanted to relate, - how is that namedrop? Thank you for returning. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:14, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Gerda Name-dropping is sticking in her husband's name. Yoninah (talk) 17:16, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Only because he is just as legendary and may give readers a connection. A bit like Brecht before him. Some sources don't even say they were married, that's beside the point. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:25, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Gerda, I know, that's how you write hooks. But you're really writing resumes. Yoninah (talk) 17:29, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Call it that that I like to point out someone's greatest achievements. You say Brecht, or Stein, and those who know a bit see a style, - same for others. One of my New Year's resolutions will be to reduce DYK. The one line you get to say, after arguing and debating, is just not worth the investment of time. She was well-received on ITN, - I had just hoped to highlight her a bit more by an image. Please no more ping today, I'm busy with Beethoven. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:37, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

DYKSTATS
So we now have a week with the new 400 / hour threshold, and I'm thinking that 500 / hour would have been better. You supported the 500 / hour limit and I think the consensus was there to change to either 400 or 500. At the 400 / hour level, a hook can qualify with only 4,800 views (lower than the old system) when a queue runs for 12 hours. Do you think it would be ok for me to just go ahead and change to 500? Or should I just let December play out and then present it for further discussion at the Talk page? Cbl62 (talk) 17:40, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: I think you should present it for discussion right now. I didn't understand your decision to go with 400 when there was consensus for 500. Yoninah (talk) 18:00, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for the feedback. Cbl62 (talk) 18:12, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: And thank you for posting that. I've run into trouble assuming that no one is looking and just going ahead and doing what I want, and then having people question it (like here). It's better to be up and aboveboard, even if you're the only one handling it. Yoninah (talk) 18:17, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for the feedback. Cbl62 (talk) 18:12, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- The proposal to increase the threshold for the all-time lists at DYKSTATS has been pending for almost seven days now with very little feedback. See Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Statistics#All-time lists -- time to cull?. Did you have any thoughts about it? Do you think it's sufficient to let it run for seven days before implementing the proposed pruning? Cbl62 (talk) 07:02, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: well, it looks like there is no strong opposition. Please go ahead and change the threshold to 500. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 11:48, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, I did that. My question, though, was about the proposal regarding the all-time lists. Let me know if you have any thoughts on that. Best, Cbl62 (talk) 16:54, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: I commented on that proposal at the talk page. Yoninah (talk) 17:45, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

I just took this one live. Not sure if there is anything of interest for DYK, but also a warning the sourcing is almost entirely in French. If you are interested, great, if you aren't or are too busy, no worries. SusunW (talk) 18:07, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- @SusunW: please provide the source for this hook:
- ... that the diaries of 19th-century Quebec philanthropist Lady Lacoste have given historians a rare look into how emotions impacted the lives of women in her social class?
- Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 21:04, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you. There's plenty to choose from, though I only cited one ref in the article. "Le journal de Marie-Louise Lacoste constitue un rare et précieux témoignage sur la façon dont une mère pouvait vivre le deuil d’un enfant, à une époque où, à Montréal, un bébé sur quatre mourrait avant d’avoir un an".-volume-iii-numéro-1-avril Also "Le journal de Marie-Louise constitue un témoignage rare et précieux de la façon dont les mères vivaient ce deuil."[7] The English abstract here: "diary, which covers three decades of her adult life, reflects a contrasted emotional landscape, fluctuating between suffering and joy. The present article addresses the diarist's joy, which occurred in specific circumstances, especially when she was fulfilling the duty she felt to be her own as a catholic, bourgeois woman and felt herself to be on a path towards paradise. By studying the joys of the diarist, this article intends to shed new light on Globensky's vision of the world and on her motivations, as well as on the power relationships in the Montréal society to which she belonged.[8] SusunW (talk) 21:30, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- @SusunW: I don't see the hook fact in Doucet 2013, only in Doucet 2017, the one with the English abstract. Do you want to fix the cite for footnote 11 in the article? Yoninah (talk) 22:04, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- @SusunW: could you also give me the source wording for this hook?
- ALT1: ... that while 19th-century Lady Lacoste raised her children with strict Victorian morals, refusing to allow them to ride bicycles, she encouraged their interest in theatre? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:06, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- Added Doucet 2017. 2011 and 2013 says the diary is rare. Give me a minute to search out the text for the alt. SusunW (talk) 22:10, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

DYK?
Hi. I don't think I can propose a DYK at the DYK page as an IP. But I see you just reviewed one on another basketball player. Perhaps this one will interest you.
As this new article indicates, Bryan Cohen was the only player in league history to win the Patriot League Defensive Player of Year award three times.
Alternately, the article also says he was the seventh player in any NCAA Division I conference to win a defensive MVP award three times.
If it does interest you, feel free to propose it and get the credit. If not, lmk and I will ask someone listed as a frequent contributor. Thanks. --2604:2000:E010:1100:F9AE:C9A7:8C7E:1778 (talk) 04:22, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the message on my talk page! They should be taken care of now. I hope this helps. With regards, AnupamTalk 00:49, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Anupam: thank you for your edits. I think the presentation should be divided into his anthropological and academic careers so it will be clearer. I can take another look at the source material tomorrow. Best, Yoninah (talk) 00:51, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- His academic career is tied to his anthropological endeavors so I personally think that keeping them in one section is fine. If you still would like them to be in two sections, I can do that. I hope this helps. With regards, AnupamTalk 04:17, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
Marjorie Finlay DYK
I just started Marjorie Finlay, a 1950-60s opera singer and radio/TV personality in Puerto Rico. Finlay is the maternal grandmother of Taylor Swift. She served as an early musical inspiration for Swift who just released a song about her, Draft:Marjorie (song). I'm waiting for an admin to move my draft over the redirect (not sure why there is a delay). I collaborated with SusunW (talk · contribs) on identifying public domain images (now added to the article). No worries if you don't think this is good for DYK or if you busy/not interested! - @TJMSmith: great, thanks for letting me know! Let me know when the draft is accepted to mainspace and I'll try to craft a double hook. Yoninah (talk) 15:31, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

I understand from your revert that the threashold for DYKSTATS was changed. Who decided that? Was it well-published? It didn't reach me. How about IAR for a transition time, for what looks like 20 views too few per the new limit, and more than double enough per the old? - How about a well-published change 1 January 2021, to make things comparable in 2020. ... or will we throw out all others earlier this year that didn't reach 500/hour, for fairness? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:08, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: please join the conversation at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Statistics#Adjust threshold?. Yoninah (talk) 14:03, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- After Christmas. I can't be everywhere, I put too much of my time here already. Can you perhaps say there that I think to make such a change so close to the end of the year seems unfair? - I'd just swallow it, btw, if it was "my" article, but I already congratulated Aza24. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:15, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

key driving forces
is redundant. The article also doesn't say anything like that. Do you mean it's a key ingredient or key element in these vaccines? Yoninah (talk) 14:02, 22 December 2020 (UTC)- @Yoninah: Yeah....key element. I think "key element" would me more appropriate than "key driving force". BYU
Hi Yoninah, regarding your note about Template:Did you know nominations/A Little Lower Than the Angels (novel), one of the aims of the BYU accounts seems to have been to have BYU, its staff and alumni—including living people and their work—featured on the main page via DYK, which amounts to paid advocacy. (Having said that, personally I have no objection to the way the article about that novel is written.)
I've been looking at this issue for the last couple of weeks and have wondered why you promoted so many of their articles. I see now that you believed it was just regular WiR work, and in fairness to the BYU accounts, perhaps they thought the same. Please see the COIN discussion for more information. It seems that there's a lack of clarity about WiR around the edges, and it can easily blur into paid editing/advocacy. Best wishes, SarahSV (talk) 22:18, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- SarahSV: yes, I did not see it as a problem because the articles were well-written and sourced, and I was promoting a lot of "topic" articles on Mormonism rather than write-ups of the BYU staff and alumni. Not knowing anything about the WiR program, I thought they just had better access to the BYU library to write these articles, so I wasn't aware there was a problem. I'm aware of the discussion at COIN and see that it hasn't yet been resolved. Best, Yoninah (talk) 22:35, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- There are POV and sourcing issues. An example of the POV, Template:Did you know nominations/Zina P. Young Card. Zina P. Young Card describes her as a "women's rights activist" who fought for the vote. But she also fought for the right to exercise plural marriage. The latter means she wasn't what most people (if anyone) would call a women's rights activist, because "plural marriage", which gave only one spouse the right to engage in it, was inherently patriarchal. Also see A Little Lower Than the Angels (novel). The lead says "it received attention for its ... impartial approach to Mormon history, especially regarding polygamy". But the article describes the book as offering a negative portrayal of plural marriage, or at least that's how I read it, so it's not clear what "impartial" means in this context. An example of the sourcing issues, Template:Did you know nominations/Howard Rusk Long. Howard Rusk Long cites material several times that's only available in the BYU archive. Presumably BYU could put the material online, but they've chosen not to, so the public has no way of accessing it. That means it fails WP:V. We have to be able to cite published sources. SarahSV (talk) 00:36, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- SlimVirgin, I think the reviewers are saying it's impartial in that, for a book written by a person raised in/near Mormonism, it didn't simply paint Mormon doctrine in a positive light. A portrayal of plural marriage -- that is, the kind of plural marriage that allows only one gender to have multiple partners -- doesn't have to give equal weight to both "sides" in order to be impartial. —valereee (talk) 03:14, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Valereee, not sure what you mean by the reviewers. It was the BYU editor who first created the article who called it "impartial". It strikes me a strange choice of word for a negative account; impartial implies balance. I'm not criticizing the body of the article, by the way, only the lead. SarahSV (talk) 03:37, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

- Sarah, yes, but the article says it received attention for its lyrical prose and impartial approach to Mormon history, especially regarding polygamy.[1] The BYU editor is referring to someone else's description of the impartiality. They aren't calling it impartial on their own. —valereee (talk) 04:12, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Valereee, I can't see anyone calling it "impartial" except for the BYU editor. It's not in the source, and the sentence had no source when it was first added. SarahSV (talk) 04:26, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- SlimVirgin, the source that sentence is cited to does talk about the presentation of Mormonism and polygamy in the book, very briefly. It doesn't use the word impartial, but it talks about "the frustration of polygamy" and about Sorensen writing about the main character accepting her husband's religion because she loves him and reflecting on the smugness of believers who aren't tolerant to other ways of thinking. The whole piece is basically about the fact that Sorensen in her fiction wasn't a typical Mormon writer, how she was criticized by other Mormons for presenting "unlovely" things, that she considered herself a defender of the faith and that as part of defending the faith she had to represent it faithfully, the bad along with the good. The sentence maybe could be worded more precisely, but it isn't actually misleading I don't think. —valereee (talk) 12:32, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Valereee, can you say which source you mean, with a page number? This is where "impartial" was added. There was a source at the end of the lead; no page number. This is the current source; page range 56–64. SarahSV (talk) 23:14, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

The sentence maybe could be worded more precisely, but it isn't actually misleading I don't think. —valereee (talk) 12:32, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Valereee, I can't see anyone calling it "impartial" except for the BYU editor. It's not in the source, and the sentence had no source when it was first added. SarahSV (talk) 04:26, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
Big Long Slidin' Thing
Hi Yoninah. I noticed that with this diff, you removed my hook from prep 7. Can I ask what happened to it? Cbl62 (talk) 23:01, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: thanks for the reminder. I'll return it to the noms page. Too many editors are promoting hook images instead of building whole sets, and there have been too many black and white lead images of late. But it does deserve an image slot. Best, Yoninah (talk) 23:13, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was afraid that it had fallen into an abyss. Cbl62 (talk) 23:14, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Yoninah:
Thanks for moving the DYK to Prep 3. In this move, the hook has been tweaked to a point where I do not know if what is promoted is actually true. Please can you have a look. Agree in spirit, but, the tweak might not be factually accurate. Thanks. Ktin (talk) 23:55, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Adding image after nominating article for DYK?
Hi, Yoninah, hope all is well. I created Template:Did you know nominations/Mercy dog and I just today found a PD-painting at File:"Red Cross Dog" - Alexander Pope.png that I thought might be a good image to run in DYK. What do you think? 1) I tend to not ever put images in to my hook nominations and 2) I'm not really sure how to add it into the template after already creating the nomination Sorry if this isn't the best place to ask a question, I wasn't sure where to go. Eddie891 Talk Work 14:54, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Eddie891: It's easy – you just copy and paste the template from one of the sets in T:DYKQ and fill in the information. I did that for you. It's always a good idea to add images from the article to the nomination. Yoninah (talk) 16:13, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Psalm 148
On 26 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Psalm 148, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Psalm 148, calling heaven and earth to be glad, inspired the 17th-century Christmas carol "Erfreue dich, Himmel, erfreue dich, Erde", which Maria Luise Thurmair expanded with more details from the psalm in 1963? You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Psalm 148), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK question
Hi Yoninah, would you mind giving an opinion at Template:Did you know nominations/Black Focus on whether I can approve ALT1 or need another reviewer (I wrote the hook, but it's essentially the same fact with the same source as ALT0 by the nominator)? Pinged you but I know you do a million things at DYK so I thought it might be better to ask here. Thanks! — Bilorv (talk) 21:23, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Bilorv: well, you did add a minor fact to the hook that wasn't there before, so I think you should call for another reviewer. Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:27, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Cheers, have requested one. — Bilorv (talk) 21:35, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Yoninah, Now that this DYK nom is approved and ready for promotion, I'd like to request it be scheduled in the Special occasion holding area for January 18, as mentioned on the nom's "comment" line, for Martin Luther King Day. Thanks, JGHowes talk 00:07, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Yoninah, I've reviewed this nom, which is requested for the Special occasion holding area on Jan. 6, Epiphany Day. Also, as a footnote, the nom opined that "Reviewers aren't really supposed to propose hooks" -- really? Did I miss something? JGHowes talk 00:25, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- @JGHowes: I responded on the template. Yoninah (talk) 17:05, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, well, I took the nom's comment "Alternative hooks could make this connection more strongly" as a request for such, hence it was meant as a suggestion to make the hook clearer for Epiphany, for the nom's consideration, not as my hook per se. Since the nom prefers Alt0 anyway, so be it. JGHowes talk 17:46, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

I raised an issue related to this article at RSN[13] and the fact that you added the perpetrator's ethnicity was mentioned - it was a violation of WP:Ethnicity and has been removed by another editor. I thought you should know why it was removed. Doug Weller talk 06:52, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Doug Weller: thank you for letting me know. I'm fine with the changes to the article. Best, Yoninah (talk) 11:41, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

- @SusunW: OK. But do you want to mention that she was an heir to the StarKist fortune? Where else did she get her money from? Yoninah (talk) 23:45, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- I see no reason not to. I think the sources treat the source of her largess from her inheritance as a given. Both she and her husband worked at StarKist (though I find no evidence she worked after her childhood.) SusunW (talk) 23:56, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- @SusunW: great. So please add something about being an heir to the fortune and I'll go ahead with the nomination. You can see that I added two sentences summarizing her total donations to both Harvard and USC, which is what I want to use in the hook. Yoninah (talk) 23:58, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

On 30 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Marie-Louise Lacoste, which you recently nominated. - Almost certainly not, unfortunately. We are plagued with anonymous well-wishers who are eager to steal people's copyrighted photographs ... for a good cause, of course, but all too often the photographers don't appreciate the benefits thereof. Now, there have been lots of interviews with AIG, you could email them and ask if they would release better images under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/. - @TJMSmith: I am thinking about a short hook, like:
- ... that Ethiopian–Italian environmentalist Agitu Ideo Gudeta was nicknamed "the Queen of Happy Goats"?
- Please provide me with the wording from the Telegraph source about her being a national symbol of environmentalism. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:22, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yoninah, The first hook sounds good. Maybe adding "refugee" before environmentalist adds to the hook? Either way works. From the Telegraph: "As one of the few black people farming in the region, she had overcome persistent racial harassment to become a beloved figure in the valley. She became a national symbol for environmentalism and integration after Radical Party politician Emma Bonino singled her out as an example of successful integration and courageous female entrepreneurship." Similar messaging/wording is repeated in other Italian and English-language sources. TJMSmith (talk) 22:49, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Darwin’s Darkest Hour /Messed Up Ping
I changed your edit on Darwin’s Darkest Hour from documentary episode to drama episode. It’s surprisingly filmed as a drama (and it’s a pretty good one). I pinged you for your thoughts at Template:Did you know nominations/Riot Games, but I think that I messed up the ping. SL93 (talk) 13:27, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

DYK for John Clark Mayden
@Yoninah: please note, I've now added a free photo to this article since the DYK review by @Bilorv: and promotion by @SL93:. The DYK is now in Prep #7 for Jan. 18. JGHowes talk 20:17, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
- @JGHowes: well, the set is in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day, so I think we should keep the historic district in the main slot. Would you like me to move this hook to a later prep set to get an image slot? Yoninah (talk) 20:28, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
- No, prefer to leave the Mayden DYK sans photo in the MLK Day slot. Photo's in the article itself, so the throngs of readers who (hopefully) are hooked will see it there. JGHowes talk 21:07, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Common name
Hi Yoninah: I notice that you put a citation in the lead of Trinidad euphonia, and see that you commented on another DYK nomination that "The common name needs to be cited in the lead." Can you please point me to that MOS requirement? This is new to us at WP:BIRDS, so I want to make sure we point editors to the appropriate link in our article advice. MeegsC (talk) 12:41, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
- @MeegsC that's how I interpret MOS:COMMONNAME, which says "it is best to give both the common and scientific name at first occurrence", and of course the first occurrence would be in the lead of the article about the subject. —valereee (talk) 19:46, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Really
Seriously? A Wikipedian died and we don't even know what happened? People like Pi Zero and Flyer Frozen22 got closure, but stuff related to this editor "has been suppressed, blah blah blah." It's such an insult to her memory. The community can't even be at peace about this. Firestar464 (talk) 01:10, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- WP:PRIVACY Wikipedia is not an international intelligence organization keeping personal details about any editor. Without a public release from Yoninah's family, we have no right to release personal details about her. That also means we can't release any personal information about you, even if you died. — Maile (talk) 01:43, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) @Editormian: Hello, but you're in the wrong forum. The person you're currently talking to has ceased to exist. You might have a better chance asking on the teahouse (which you have already done). --Regards, Jeromi Mikhael 08:26, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Yoninah died February 6, 2021
I cannot share the source here, because it mentions her RL identity. However, I emailed the link and info to a member of Wikimedia oversight before posting here. The source that announced her death is dated February 7, 2021. It says she became ill on February 3, and died on the February 6 Jewish sabbath of Shabbos. No other details were given. In some ways, it seems kind of bittersweet that she died on the Jewish sabbath. That's all I know. — Maile (talk) 12:35, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- That the now-suppressed source that was posted on the Deceased Wikipedians page was dated well before she even apparently became ill, just underlines what a bad idea it is to try and play amateur detective when an editor has not disclosed their RL identity on Wikipedia.-- P-K3 (talk) 13:23, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- You are correct. Interesting in that both the suppressed version, and the one I found came from the same organization, the latter was a notice posted by a rabbi. — Maile (talk) 14:01, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
