Off to San Junipero
[edit]I'm Bilorv and I edited Wikipedia from December 2013 to June 2024.
I've had one foot in and one foot out for a while, overcommitted to projects, and some big news means that (effective tomorrow) I won't have free time to do things properly here. I may intermittently be able to read this page or my Wikipedia emails.
I'm proud of the small part I've played in this encyclopedia. I've been thinking a lot lately about legacy and just looking at URFA/2020 shows you that when things are not actively maintained, they will be conquered by time. No thing beside remains. Round the decay / Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare / The lone and level sands stretch far away.
I'm sad this will happen to what I've written but hopefully some of it has already been useful to some people. If you are one of those people maybe you would consider looking after something I worked on with a very small bus factor:
- Give out Four Awards (watchlist the nomination page)
- Give out Triple Crowns
- Review requests at WikiProject Television (which has had sadly little participation as of late) or some other WikiProject
- Watchlist something in Wikipedia:Featured topics/Black Mirror
- Watchlist a few random things from here (you find particularly bad creep in synopses as the length steadily increases—see MOS:TVPLOT/MOS:FILMPLOT)
- Sign up to be a mentor answering newcomer questions
- I haven't opted out of most bot/semi-automated messages so friendly talk page stalkers are welcome
Good article nominations currently require nominators to be "significant contributors" but sometimes this is waived if a significant contributor is consulted (see here)—this is me giving blanket permission for any articles where I am one.
Yours faithfully, (as one editor once called me) a "far-left extremist, mentally-ill tranny freak". — Bilorv (talk) 18:15, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, I'm so sorry to see you go! I hope this big news is good news, and I wish you all the best. -- asilvering (talk) 18:21, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- We're losing so many people recently. I think there is hope of a legacy being left behind, and at least with a handful of our articles, they might stand the test of time for decades. If you want I could shepherd your articles and I'll try to help out in some of the areas you were active in, hopefully when I get back. Take care okay? You'll be remembered. Your GA nomination of Apocalypse Clown
[edit]The article Apocalypse Clown you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Apocalypse Clown for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Kusma -- Kusma (talk) 09:02, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for mentoring me!
Recently I've added some links to implementations of quantum algorithms in several pages, in the 'external links' section. Someone ('Fawli') has removed most of my edits. Here is my discussion with him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Fawly#c-Fawly-20240630185600-Orsgaba-20240630084800
All links are valuable in my opinion, they are to an open-source software with full implementations of the algorithms, which is a content that was not existing in the page itself.
do you think it was indeed a problem to add them? or is it arguable?
thanks a lot in advance! --Orsgaba (talk) 10:17, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from BadEditor92 (08:43, 12 July 2024)
[edit]Hey, can I use an article about a company as a source even if it's written like an ad? --BadEditor92 (talk) 08:43, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- @BadEditor92: I am afraid this editor is no longer active anymore. Your question cannot be answered. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 06:45, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- hello mate Darkbroe (talk) 07:52, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- @BadEditor92, typically an article that is "written like an ad" isn't a reliable source. Can you share the particular article with us? -- asilvering (talk) 19:30, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
Hi mentor, wikipedia have assigned you as my mentor and I have questions regarding my draft. Please help thanks --Peaq1 (talk) 14:45, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
Editor of the Week
[edit]Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Extraordinary Writ submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- I nominate Bilorv to be Editor of the Week for unrelenting dedication to what this encyclopedia is really about. This is evident in all their contributions, from offering unusually perspicacious projectspace commentary to reviewing others' articles to inspiring heretofore unseen feats of content creation, but the best measure of their work is the impact it has on readers. When I say that Bilorv's content (about television, books, and much else) has been read 100,000,000 times, I'm more likely to be guilty of underestimation than exaggeration. And those readers – real people – encounter articles written to the highest standards, including (but not at all limited to) three FAs and fifty GAs. Bilorv is the consummate battleship: someone whose content creation reaches and sustains high levels of quantity, quality, and relevance. In the long term, that fact is far more meaningful than any award. But the award certainly won't hurt. Seconded by User:HouseBlaster.
