Jay Sean page, what's wrong?

[edit]

Thanks for your quick reply, is there a email adress or phone number so that the management can contact wikipedia directly? Would you accept an accepted faq checked bio from the artist himself? Surely you must understand that often times bio's get pulled from strange places before an artists career affords him the luxury of getting a professional and factual one done. especially ones that come from a particular scene, such as Jay does that is rampant with false reports and strange headlines.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Funsjacobs (talkcontribs) 07:46, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir/Madam, I edited the Jay Sean page because of a request of his direct management. You undid all the changes in the lead and I was wondering why so I can correct it again and do it right this time. Please let me know, thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Funsjacobs (talkcontribs) 20:59, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help Pt. II

[edit]

Hey,Thanks for your speedy response. Im requesting semi-protection because there has been alot of information being added that isn't exactly factual. There are being going on and claim to be a current or former member of the group. False or missing details about past projects and partnerships. Not to mention, these are a group of kids that sings songs by some of today's best artist. Their YouTube page and videos gets bombarded with vandalism constantly and it would just help to nip it in the root before it can possible get to that point.--IamMusic111 (talk) 17:54, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How reliable is the Croatian charts being added like here? — Legolas (talk2me) 06:45, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An arbitration case regarding Muhammad images has now closed and the final decision is viewable at the link above. The following remedies have been enacted:

  1. The community is asked to hold a discussion that will establish a definitive consensus on what images will be included in the article Muhammad (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), and on where the images will be placed within the article. As with all decisions about content, the policies on verifiability and the neutral point of view must be the most important considerations. The editors who choose to participate in this discussion are asked to form an opinion with an open mind, and to explain their decision clearly. Any editor who disrupts this discussion may be banned from the affected pages by any uninvolved administrator, under the discretionary sanctions authorised in this decision. The decision reached in this discussion will be appended to this case within two months from the close of the case.
  2. Ludwigs2 is prohibited from contributing to any discussion concerning Muhammad.
  3. Ludwigs2 is banned from the English Wikipedia for one year.
  4. Tarc is admonished to behave with appropriate professionalism in his contributions to discussions about disputed article content.
  5. FormerIP is admonished to behave with appropriate professionalism in his contributions to discussions about disputed article content.
  6. Hans Adler is reminded to engage in discussions about disputed article content with an appropriate degree of civility.
  7. Standard discretionary sanctions are authorised for all pages relating to Muhammad, broadly interpreted.
  8. The participants in the dispute about depictions of Muhammad are reminded that editors who engage extensively in an intractable dispute can become frustrated, and that it is important to be aware that as editors we are limited in our ability to contribute constructively to a deadlocked disagreement. Our exasperation with a dispute can make us unprofessional or unreceptive to compromise. We therefore encourage the disputants of this case to consider if their participation in the coming community discussion of depictions of Muhammad would be useful, and we remind them that if they disrupt the community discussion they may be banned from the discussion or otherwise sanctioned under the discretionary sanctions provision of this case.

3D Printing - Resolution

[edit]

I will leave you the same comment I left for Sjö:

I noticed you reverted the resolution section of 3D printing. Unfortunately, this has introduced an error into the text. The layer thickness of a 3D printer is typically from 50 μm to 100 μm. This is the same as 0.05 mm to 0.1 mm (or 0,05 mm to 0,1 mm using a comma decimal separator). I believe the author of the resolution section was trying to use both methods of expression because many people considerable less familiar with micrometers than they are with millimeters. Therefore, s/he used both forms in the section.

I hope this explains why the units have been altered yet again.

Is there any chance that this is an innocent user caught up in Iluvrihanna24 (talk · contribs)'s sockpuppet clean-up? I am not familiar with that situation and am seeking more experienced opinion. I've declined an initial unblock request as the user seems to be purposefully obfuscating their situation. This could be due to inexperience and I'd like to be as sure as possible that the user gets a fair shake. Thanks Tiderolls 01:02, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re

[edit]

I'm not falsely accusing anything the dude wouldn't look at the facts as no one will. There was an edit war on that page that fastily warned an editer over and no one no one will look and notice that the references in question were used on the Blue (Bill Mack song) that was resolved the day before the page was made. That right there is proof that I'm not in the wrong! Why won't NO ONE SEE THIS?!?!?!?! Swifty*talkcontribs 18:29, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is all right here but here is the warning and Fastily's stand in it as well as my reply. Swifty*talkcontribs 19:24, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But no one wants to listen to me. I use to be under User:JamesAlan1986 till it got blocked for being compromised and even User:Status could tell you I am a very good contributor along with a lot of others. I look thoroughly through sources and everything but I'm done I'm done trying to help on here I'm done with people starting stuff with me every time I turn around cause no one wants to either compromise or want to put everything on me when I sit there and try to point out things over and over and over again but there are very few people on here who will actually listen, like Status, Fastily, etc, they'll listen. Everyone else is too stubborn and do just what they want to prove their right and will go to extremes to get their way when someone points out they are not and proof is shown and staring them right in the face. But I really don't care anymore I'm done. Swifty*talkcontribs 19:33, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here is where it shows you it's about the sources. Swifty*talkcontribs
Ok looks like no one will listen to me. Dfw.com was not reliable as it used a fan uploaded video from YouTube.com. The original page made statement that Mack had recorded the song but whether he released it as a single is still questionable. I've never found a source to state that he did and until there is one it should've stayed as it was but it was done wrong and without compromise, etc. so techinically the creation of Blue (Bill Mack song) was wrong and should not have happened but why does anyone care? Swifty*talkcontribs 17:19, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Most reliable sources use official sites like CMT.com not some random video they found on YouTube. I know the video exist on CMT.com as I was the one who posted it as an external link. I don't question prior recordings what I question is why post it as the writer where I see no reliable source stating Mack himself released the song as a single. globaldogproductions.info does not count to me as it's not Billboard.com the most used source to show such information in fact I went on Billboard.com and Rimes is the only person [3] credited to the song. No one else but should it be made notable that others have recorded it yes but should it be under Macks name probably not as I stated matter. And I'll go as far to show you Billboard.coms search results on Bill Mack. [4] Swifty*talkcontribs 17:43, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is there is too many conflicting sources I can prove that Rimes is the only one credited as putting it out as a single which most wikipedia pages of songs are. It should've stayed as Rimes' song as she released it as a single and made mention of previous recordings but to state that Mack released it as a single when so many of the sources on the page can be contradicted by the most reliable source of all Billboard.com then we got a conflict of interest here. The fact is I knew Mack recorded it I never denied that. But hes recording was a demo to give out to artist so they could decide if they can record it. Linda Davis recorded Does He Love You before Reba McEntire did, Reba stated she was listening to Davis on the demo in her book Reba: My Story so should "Does He Love You" it be stated that Davis released a demo of the song. Most pages don't but just cause Mack demoed it doesn't mean he should get a song page to himself no it means he should get a mention that he recorded it. Swifty*talkcontribs 17:54, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here's to show Reba: My Story exist. [5] I'll have to get what pages from my significant other later. And here's something else, using my significant other as a prime example. He'd not consider "Does He Love You", Linda Davis' song just because Davis recorded it prior to McEntire. He'd consider it more McEntire song as she recorded it, and released it as a single where Davis did not. And "Blue" should be treated no differently. Swifty*talkcontribs 18:03, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I got to go. I don't have internet at home and my significant other doesn't want to be stuck here at the library while I try to make my point. I hope you're taking what I'm saying into strong consideration. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels strongly on this, though I'm probably the only one who's willing to fight it. Swifty*talkcontribs 18:06, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is how it should've been done. Swifty*talkcontribs 18:52, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My significant other has this to say on it: "Demos don't count. Just cause someone did a demo doesn't mean they get credit for the song, if you look you can find that Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton also did demos but they don't get credited for it. So why should Mack?" Swifty*talkcontribs 18:58, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You know it's funny but I've had WP:COMMON thrown at me and so many other stuff that support that it should be on the Blue (LeAnn Rimes song) that it's funny they don't apply now. Swifty*talkcontribs

Yep. Also um, please don't revert my talk page. If you can pleasen move it to the Archives instead of reverts if you misposted. Thanks! Swifty*talkcontribs 20:23, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You know instead of questioning me why not question Moriori who seems to be doing this to more then one page. Swifty*talkcontribs 15:13, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Look what they said to me. Swifty*talkcontribs 15:27, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is what happens when you let vandals do what they want. They lass out at those of use who have been on here longer and I've been on here quite a while though i lost my User:JamesAlan1986 account cause it was compromised. I don't appreciate how people will sit here and pick and chose when it comes to the rules of Wikipedia. I'm sick of this and it has always been a problem on here. Things need to be restored on here and I don't appreciate what Moriori said to me. It was weak and a low blow cause they didn't like the contradictions shown to them plus they are doing it to more then one page instead of going by the WP standards. That's not their place or their right. They did not follow the rules before creating that page and I'm SICK of everyone picking and choosing I'm done and I will not return to Wikipedia because of this. And there will be a lot of people pissed to see me go. Swifty*talkcontribs 15:32, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[Massive copyright violation removed]

Tell me where Mack says in there I released this as a single on my own. All I see is he wanted the song to be known and was doing everything he could to make it happen but no where does it say "I released it as a single" and that's the point. He didn't want credit for it he wanted the song known. Swifty*talkcontribs 16:10, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This can be controdicted by Amazon.com & Billboard.com as Mack has 29 songs and neither page mentions "Blue" as his song. Swifty*talkcontribs 16:17, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It comes down to this. Rimes is most notable for the song which is how it has been on Wikipedia for years. As you can see here the page was created in 2007 where as the Blue (Bill Mack song) was created recently so let me ask this. Which should've stayed? The oldest or the newest. And isn't WP:COMMON state that we use most commonly known? Mack is not most commonly known for Blue where Rimes is. How many times do I have to say that? Swifty*talkcontribs 16:23, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Should we mention Mack recorded it? Yes but not with sources that can be contradicted. The page already made mention long before that Mack recorded it so why did it Blue have to be merged to a page most recently created? Because someone falsely believed he put it out as a single? Cause that was the big problem to begin with. Swifty*talkcontribs

See look here at Safe & Sound. Safe & Sound (song) is the only one in existence but there are other songs by that by different artist. Should Safe & Sound (song) be moved right now to Safe & Sound (Taylor Swift song)? No cause no other pages of the song exist right? So let's see here Blue (LeAnn Rimes song) was created in 2007 but Blue (Bill Mack song) was created recently. Hmmm I think Blue (Bill Mack song) should've been the one redirected. Swifty*talkcontribs 16:33, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Let me ask you this. Since Mack never released the song as a single would you post the infobox on Blue (LeAnn Rimes song)? Or would you have put the source stating he recorded it next to prior sources that stated he recorded it? Swifty*talkcontribs 16:41, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Now do you see where the edit war began on Blue (LeAnn Rimes song) and why I've been so against the creation of Blue (Bill Mack song) the page was being vandilized and because I contradicted Blue (Bill Mack song) was created. Swifty*talkcontribs 16:43, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I want to point this out too. Isn't Blue (Bill Mack song) falsely stating he released it as a single? Swifty*talkcontribs 16:52, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I pretty much am making a lot of good points but if you still want to agree with the ones who created the page and are wrong for doing so then what I stated on my talk page is how I feel and I am done. Swifty*talkcontribs 16:55, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And as far as Moriori is concerned they need to back off me cause they, pardon my French, do not need to tell me what the h*ll to do.

Seems to me it would be rewarding for you to honour your "Retired" banner, to go away for a bit to recharge, and then come back refreshed sometime in the future.

They have no business saying that to me NONE! Swifty*talkcontribs 17:21, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have internet at home anymore. That's why my page states I'm retired but because of this bs I've been going to the library everyday to deal with this but I don't try to stick on here too long cause if you've noticed this has been going on for quite some time now because I have to get off here and go home. Hi, Kww. I'm reluctant to interfere with a mentorship so I'm bringing my concern here first. In your advice you mention a large section being inserted into the article with this edit. I believe the situation to be much more concerning as that edit essentially reinstated PhoenixJHudson's version of the article as editied on their talk page during their block. The two versions appear identical to me. That edit and the user's repeated attempts at block evasion are pushing me towards the opinion that this user has been less than sincere regarding their motives. I really don't know how to proceed from here but I wanted you to know about my concerns. Regards Tiderolls 03:09, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The talk page version was his challenge: showing to me that he could at least write constructively. He put over 160 edits into it to get it to his view of perfection. It doesn't surprise me that he's trying to get the live article to match it. I'm keeping my eye out for socking, and I have some technical measures in place to reduce its probability. The real goal is to see if I can get him to discuss things. I still have my fingers crossed.—Kww(talk) 03:14, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm kinda chuckling at "broke talk page rules"...and a bit at the dutch cite-error message, too. I appreciate that your on the job and have no concerns there. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Tiderolls 03:22, 28 February 2012 (UTC) I swear I saw some dutch here...oh, well...maybe it's a 70's flashback[reply]
It's a weird glitch. Whenever I edit a talk page that has a ref in it, I get that error because the Dutch user interface doesn't have the suppression code in it that the English interface does. The next time an editor with an English interface hits the same page, the message mysteriously vanishes.—Kww(talk) 11:09, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Phoenix

[edit]

You are welcome Kevin. But I do think you are being harsh. Everyday I see thousands of IPs writing foul words on Wikipedia. And yet all that is done is giving them a warning or simply nothing. Frankly, I think you should unblock him. You can... hmm maybe apply some restrictions as blocking someone repeatedly kind of discourages editors. Nevertheless, I know you are a good person and I understood all the rules and regulations here only after being blocked thrice. Lol. Your job as an admin is really nice. Keep it up. Cheers, Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just looked at that. I am sure he will become a good editor as for a beginner, he does not add original research and most amazingly he formats his references flawlessly. :) e will learn with time just like we all did. :D Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:53, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Vandalism accusations

[edit]

Check her discography page tell me where she has soundtrack singles? I don't need this crap and I don't need everyone contradicting what I do I know what the h*ll I'm doing I've been on here long enough to know a great deal. So people need to back off me! Just cause my accounts new doesn't mean I haven't edited before as I said I use to be under User:JamesAlan1986 until it go blocked for compromising and if you check the contributions on there I have been a pretty good editor on here. I just don't like people who break the rules. Swifty*talkcontribs 17:21, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Threaten me all you want that was no good faith edit. First off you looked at the pages and again chose to pick and choose what you looked at, each infobox on "Crazier", "Today Was a Fairytale" and "Safe & Sound" all say they are promotional singles NOT official singles and the template has been vandalized several times prior to and this one was no different. To put them as Soundtrack singles when they aren't even official was not how we do things here so maybe YOU should look at yourself and look at what I see and what OTHERS would see looking at pages and looking at the template and most would call it vandalizm. National Report - Colombia

[edit]

I think I found some reliable sources that references Colombia's "National Report" on WT:Record Charts. Erick (talk) 20:40, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, yeah I caught that. I'll use WP:CHARTS instead. Thanks for the heads up. Erick (talk) 02:25, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Someone created an article for National-Report which got deleted because it's methodology of charts is not mentioned on any reliable sources. Of course my inclusion of it in WP:BADCHARTS may have been premature. Erick (talk) 08:21, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can you tell me how this user has the Chelsea crest on their userpage in the corner? I would like to remove it and warn them about fair use but digging through the templates and page I cannot locate it. This userbox is also against fair use because it uses the show's logo. Bubbling Under

[edit]

How is it synthesis that the Bubbling Under is an extension of the Hot 100? Most other discographies use figures of 1xx for Bubbling Under peaks, and this is a common indication in the industry — Joel Whitburn uses 1xx peaks to indicate Bubbling Under peaks. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 08:15, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Doesn't violate any policy that I'm aware of, but I would be hard put to think it was one of the ten most important charts for very many artists. I would normally dispense with the bubblers entirely.—Kww(talk) 22:54, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just letting you know...

[edit]

When you unblocked TBrandley (talk · contribs) saying that if there were any more new redirect or articles created by the user, the block would be reinstated. However, he has created a redirect and is apparent also an article. Please review the user's contributions. I just wanted to let you know --Bmusician 14:58, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about the above, but he did create the redirect Nickelodeon Croatia today. --Logical Fuzz (talk) 21:52, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kww, thanks for all your efforts on this. The editor seems to have moved to Simple Wikipedia. Maybe this is an appropriate outcome. Or is this just evading a block? I wanted to bring it to your attention, anyway.

Nadia Oh

[edit]

Hi, Kevin. A user who goes by Jonnylovesvegas (talk · contribs) keeps changing/removing content at Nadia Oh without providing any reason whatsoever, and has been doing so for quite a while. An IP user, 79.71.83.26 (talk · contribs), has displayed a suspiciously similar behaviour. Both have been warned but neither has ceased making unconstructive edits. Care to do something about it? Lime Pictures and Hollyoaks

[edit]

Howdy, thanks for your quick block of Limepictures (talk · contribs). I'm not sure it would be safe to call that a content dispute, my assessment of it yesterday was a PR person trying to put his press release in place of the two articles (both unencyclopedic and a copyvio), see Wikipedia:ANI#Advertising_in_article. My plan was to block the PR person's main account IndieTVIndustryInsider (talk · contribs), but if you think it is a legitimate content dispute I can hold off. TBrandley's IP

[edit]

Hello Kww. I had a question about TBrandley (talk · contribs · logs). I know that his main account and secondary account Tate.B.Stockwell (talk · contribs · logs) have beeen blocked indefinitely, but I noticed that the IP address he has admitted to using (99.199.87.29 (talk · contribs · info · WHOIS)) is only blocked for a week (expiring tomorrow, Sunday). I do not know the rules about applying blocks, but shouldn't this IP block be longer, too? Otherwise tomorrow he can just create a new account and start his havoc all over again. (At least until we recognize him and file an SPI.) Just wondering if the block could be extended. --Logical Fuzz (talk) 00:20, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One Direction album page Up All Night (One Direction album) vanadalism

[edit]

Could you semi protect the album page because of persistent vandalism an unregistered user keeps deleting charts, i have to revert everyday. I tried showing him WP:BADCHARTS. Semi protection would beneficent for page because only registered users contribute. Could you please semi protect Up All Night (One Direction album) like with Gotta Be You, One Thing, What Makes You Beautiful and their main page. I also think it's necessary because they're becoming insanely popular. they're album is positioned to debut a top the billboard 200. please semi protect

Interesting comment here as an editor accuses you of edit warring in order to "get your views posted in the article." I think I might take this to the RSN and gain some opinions there. This discussion is going nowhere. BlackCab (talk) 04:16, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

Hi Kevin. I don't edit Wikipedia very often now but there's something that has been bugging me for a long time. Using a single chart (like Korean Gaon chart, R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart etc.) to prove the notability of a song/single. They're reliable charts indeed, but if this keeps up, there will be lots of articles, including permanent stubs, on songs. I think the community should discuss this issue. Ryōga Hibiki (talkcontribs) 07:45, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To answer an old comment. Should be no permanent song stubs, per WP:NSONG, "articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album.". Regards, SunCreator (talk) 20:19, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your pending desysop

[edit]

Kww, I've noted in the ANI thread you started re: Colonel Warden how egregiously wrong your interpretation of his edit summary is. I've also called upon you to apologize in your forthcoming unblock summary and resign the tools immediately. The choice whether to do that, defend your original blocking rationale, or do something entirely different is really in your court. Cheers, Jclemens (talk) 07:18, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Kevin, I don't support a desysop, but I also didn't support the block on the Colonel. I went as far as undoing it, and have explained at ANI why I did so--something I've never done before, I don't think. I'm sorry, but I felt like it was the right thing to do, in spite of the many years I have worked with and agreed with you. I hope you can understand my position. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 16:39, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

IF YOU'RE GONNA PUT CRAP UP FOR DELETION

[edit]

Put that up for deletion and back off my edits! I'm a damn good editor and I'm getting sick of feeling harassed on here. You sit here and make me out to be this person who isn't a good faith editor when I am when it's actually people like you who aren't now I'm going to get that page kept and you need to back off me and do more constructive work on taking down pages like the one I linked to you. Do not reply to me either I have nothing to say to you. Swifty*talkcontribs 15:39, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I had good faith when Fastily warned the user of disruptive editing that the situation on "Blue" was done but NO another admin goes and starts a page that shouldn't have existed and then everyone one wants to bash on me for having good faith that what I pointed out would be listened to and that the situation was taken care of prior to it but NO people did what they wanted and BASHED me for doing the right thing and I'm sick of this. Wikipedia will eventually get shut down. Everything on here is copyright infringement regardless of those little disclaimers we put. We don't have permission from anyone to use copyrighted material on here and that'll end Wikipedia. The other thing that'll end it is it's unreliable! As I pointed out in your little attempt to get under my skin when I had good faith that the article was fine as it was and was ready for future adding of information, my significant other's mother told me that she's not allowed to use Wikipedia at school because people post whatever they want and it's not reliable. This site allows too much to happen and its what you did that proves it. I'm done! Wikipedia is going to get shut down anyway so I'm just not getting back on here anymore what's the point if this will eventually get shut down. Swifty*talkcontribs 15:48, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I'm going to ask you again NICELY to back off! Swifty*talkcontribs 16:30, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You need to stop assuming!

[edit]

It's quite apparent from review of this unblock discussion, your recent edits, and edits under previous accounts that you have difficulty editing calmly and cooperatively.

That right there that you said IS WRONG! I am very cooperative thank you ask Status, Fastily, Novice, and a few others who I have mentioned on my user page can vogue for that as they do right by users on Wikipedia. Sh*t me and status have had a few scraps before but we always work it out. See there are those on here who I respect cause they know I am trying to do my best on here and then there are those like you who will assume things and basically hound and spy on what a good faith editor like myself tries to do. And by the way how dare you go by my JamesAlan account being blocked for being compromised, that was cause my significant other doesn't want to have an account on here and didn't like how I've been treated which from everything I've told him he's not thrilled with you bothering me. He at least believes that I'm trying to do right by Wikipedia and has discouraged me from being on here cause of editors like you. So yes you do need to stop monitoring me because he's already threatened to report Wikipedia cause people shouldn't get away with harrassing other editors in anyway and then when caught in the act try to make themselves look good when they are indeed doing wrong. Swifty*talkcontribs 19:57, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can see me and OhioStandard getting along and possibly me and Beeblebrox could get along cause they were nice to me. You and me, we're not gonna get along I'm sorry. Not after you and Moriori and did what you did with "Blue". As I stated after what Fastily did I assumed in good faith the situation was handled but you did not wanted to listen to that and assume and make me feel like an idiot and then after that you won't back off me so no when you do as you're doing then yes there's going to be problems but I'll be fine if I don't feel like you're up my a** for a lack of a better term. But I'm done with this if you keep monitoring me I'm not responsible for my significant others actions okay? As I said I doubt I'll be making hardly any major editing on here anymore in fact what I put on The Hunger Games soundtrack and Spitfire. is all I'm doing for today other then telling you you need to stop making assumptions and accusations as you have with me, I'm fine on Wikipedia as long as I ain't being treated like a dog and you monitoring my ever edit will cause problems cause I don't like it or want you to. See that's how I work you treat me wrong and you do things I believe are wrong as you are that's where problems start up. I didn't ask you to check my edits, etc. and until I do you have no right to do that. So I'm asking you nice to please stop cause otherwise yes there will be problems. Swifty*talkcontribs 20:11, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Single vendor chart

[edit]

Just to inform you, in case you didn't know: Chartsinfrance.net is the official publisher of French music charts. The link you removed for "Sorry for Party Rocking" shows the entire chart history of the song. It is not a single vendor chart or a "second-hand" site à la Hung Medien which usually lacks behind in their updates.

New singles charts are updated on Fridays at Chartsinfrance.net, but Top 50 is revealed on Tuesdays at http://musique.premiere.fr/TOP-50. And that update is now showing chart position 16 for this song. Widr (talk) 20:05, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About TBrandley's unblock...

[edit]

An editor on their talk page has pointed out this edit in which they made a list. Exactly what they agreed not to do! http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Touch_(TV_series)&diff=prev&oldid=485059727 . I think that reinstating the block is the only option here... They clearly cannot abide by their agreement! Barts1a / Talk to me / Help me improve 04:27, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a table of ratings to an article doesn't constitute creating a list. If I reinstated the block for that, it would get immediately overturned. Adding things to existing articles is what I'm trying to get him to do, anyway.—Kww(talk) 10:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just dropped in to ask more or less the same thing. The explanation helps, although arguably the difference between adding a list in table form (as was done) and adding a list is a bit of a semantic hair-split. But then, were I more familiar with the details of his history, might see the distinction. Regardless, I just wanted to be clear that I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone, least of all you. I just felt this was a clear-cut violation based on my reading of the unblock agreement, and posted accordingly. --Drmargi (talk) 17:35, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Kww. We haven't met before, but I'm an administrator over on simple wiki. As TBrandley has been unblocked here under probation, it's important that the community is aware of some recent concerns we've had with this user over copyright infringements. If he's contributing chunks of text, I'd strongly suggest running them through a search engine, at least for the period of his probation. I'm hoping this won't yield any problems (as I'm sure you agree, TBrandley is generally a well-intentioned editor). Best regards, Osiris (talk) 12:18, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hullaballoo Wolfowitz

[edit]

Actually, it would appear to me that HW was indeed reverting massive NFCC violations in that article. What makes you think that the trivial typos that he fixed at the same time were his real intention, thus making his edits to be only "under the colour of WP:NFCC"? Repair of WP:NFCC violations have always been exempt from WP:3RR.—Kww(talk) 18:47, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Kww: WP:NFCC violations are not subject to a blanket exemption from 3RR; the exemption is somewhat more specific than that. As I replied to Spartaz on Hullaballoo's talk page, WP:3RRNO#3RR_exemptions requires that the content be "unquestionably" a violation of the NFCC criteria; the revert war in this case is part of a dispute between the two users as to whether NFCC is satisfied by the images, and it is not simply a case that Hullaballoo was engaging in uninvolved enforcement — nor that the images were an unquestionable violation. I hope that you can see my rationale in this case. Please do let me know, of course, if you're still uncomfortable with the block. Cheers, --Tristessa (talk) 18:51, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The images are indubitably violations of WP:NFCC#8, so the "unquestionable" exemption applies. Sharkentile doesn't have a leg to stand on. If I had come upon this problem, I would have indefed Sharkentile until he agreed to comply with WP:NFCC.—Kww(talk) 18:57, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really see how they're "unquestionable"; it's possible with appropriate rationale the images would have met NFCC. But in any case, Hullaballoo shouldn't have revert-warred to remove them, surely, especially since he was involved in a dispute with the user. Why would an indef ban for Sharkentile be either appropriate or supported by policy? I'd have thought that very excessive, surely. I believe the action I took to be the fairest solution. --Tristessa (talk) 19:05, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
An indefinite block isn't an infinite one. Most of mine only last a few minutes, until the editor agrees to comply with policy. In this case, you'be blocked HW for complying with policy, implicitly rewarding Sharkentile for violating it. The dispute between HW and Sharkentile seems focused on the NFCC question, and HW is well within his rights to revert indefinitely and without limit. The question isn't "is there some way that the article could be modified to become NFCC compliant?", the question is "in it's current form, is the usage NFCC compliant?". The uses don't currently comply, and have to be removed until a compliant form can be found. They don't get retained awaiting compliance.—Kww(talk) 20:02, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've unblocked HW following his comments on his talk page. --Tristessa (talk) 20:05, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kww. Last time we talked, you told me to tell you if I thought Drecool/Joseph etc was back with another sock. I think he may be. Please look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Stuffat

It's call all the classic elements of his editing style; 10+ pointless edits on his own talk page so he can edit protected pages, Adding the same old crap back to Nickelback, and their awards and whatnot, removing legit sources, editing Linkin Park related articles, no edit summaries, etc.

Anyways, if you get the chance, I was wondering if you could take a look at it and let me know what you think. Thanks! Sergecross73 msg me 02:50, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would you agree that using UrbanDictionary as he did here is certainly not acceptable? It's getting too obvious that TB can be pointed to our sourcing guidelines, but won't even apply those lessons. Nate (chatter) 04:43, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think anybody would agree that such frivolous site is should not be acceptable here. TB has no respect for Wikipedia's rules and guidelines and has been given too many chances. Enough feel sorry for this user! JayJayTalk to me 17:11, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is clearly within the range of normal editing and sourcing disputes. There's nothing I can do as an administrator about it.—Kww(talk) 17:26, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What is the range then, especially for such user that has repeatedly caused trouble. JayJayTalk to me 17:32, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There would be a large group of people that would say that I shouldn't have made the first block, actually. This isn't a clear situation. Urban Dictionary is a pretty questionable source, so you are well within your rights to revert his edit. If he edit wars or is similarly disruptive when you correct his edits, then there may be a reason to reinstate his block. Admins act to correct disruption.—Kww(talk) 17:58, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kww, rhetorical question, just because I want to understand: the user has been warned about coming up to the edge, about walking on thin ice and any other similar metaphor you'd care to use. When do we cross the line from aaaalllllmost violating the terms of his unblock to actually gaming the system? From my perspective, and no doubt that's in part the teacher in me, I don't see an editor who is making much effort to improve, just one looking to find a way to come as close to doing what his block prohibits him doing as he possibly can. I get why you can't block for violation of the unblock agreement, but I still don't understand why this level of problem behavior doesn't in and of itself merit some action. Any insight would be instructive. --Drmargi (talk) 23:56, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that he causes very little actual disruption, and that's 99% of what an admin responds to. He's not committing copyright violations or anything that I'm authorized to react strongly to, and he doesn't seem to be edit warring: if someone removes an inappropriate edit, it stays removed. This is the kind of thing that RFCs are for, and even they aren't foolproof. I blocked him the first time because he was saying one thing and doing another, by claiming to respond to concerns while simultaneously doing the same thing as he was being criticized for. With that as ammunition, I could act. Even then, I don't think I could have kept that block in place for much longer than I did. Don't evaluate what he does vs. his editing restrictions: I put those in place in an effort to steer him towards more productive editing. Focus on his edits: correct them, engage him in discussion, and, if he edit wars or clearly refuses to engage in discussion, there's material that I can examine and see if it justifies a block. Hopefully, he will respond, and the issue will go away. Not likely, but there's always hope.—Kww(talk) 00:14, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't edit war

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Nelly Furtado. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Also, it appears you did not use the protection tools properly. Even though you did not reinstate a reversed administrative action, your action could be considered wheel warring because you were using your admin tools to give yourself an advantage in the edit war. Also, protection should generally be done by uninvolved admins per WP: COI. Am I in the right warning you? ChromaNebula (talk) 21:57, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In the case of both a BLP and MOS violation on an article that has been repetitively protected by multiple admins for precisely this violation, yes, I'd say the warning was inappropriate.—Kww(talk) 22:28, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I didn't know. I thought it was an edit war; I need to remember to assume good faith. Sorry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChromaNebula (talkcontribs) 23:28, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph Smith edit

[edit]

I welcome the opportunity to explain my edit to the Joseph Smith article. I reverted the work done by the editor with only an IP address because he didn't explain his edits very well, and they seemed to be more detrimental to the page than helpful to it. In particular, the claim that Smith is seen by his followers as one of the most charismatic and inventive figures in the history of the world. Smith's followers believed he was a prophet. They didn't see him as inventive. They took what he said to be true. So it was inaccurate. And my edit was reverted with the reason that correction of spelling was not vandalism. But the edit I reverted was more than just a correction of spelling. It was describing something that is not true and is slightly redundant. The sentence in question is as follows: "He is seen by his followers as one of the most charismatic and inventive figures of American history, and his followers regard him as a prophet of at least the stature of Moses and Elijah." If his followers regard him as a prophet, how could they view him as inventive? Getting rid of the earlier "by his followers" makes the sentence read like this: "He is seen as one of the most charismatic and inventive figures of American history, and his followers regard him as a prophet." I would suggest tweaking the wording a bit and will try to do so. Thanks for your query. Please respond on my talk page with any further questions, as I rarely (if ever) check other people's talk pages. Thanks again. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 19:50, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I recognize now that two of the three edits I reverted were spelling corrections that I should have left alone. At the time, my reasoning for doing so seemed valid. Now I recognize it as one of my many WP goof-ups, which I am famous for. If I remembered who the editor was that I offended with this edit, I would apologize to them. As it is, I just hope you'll chalk it up as an honest mistake. Again, please post on my talk page with any response. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 05:45, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think they are just being crude and baiting me with policy and guideline goal post moves, that disturb me, but more important is the suggestion from Dennis Brown to step up activity against me. If this is OK I wish to start actively taking to people he talks to in the same manner and exlain in detail his lack of knowledge for policy, his lack of ineterest in attribution etc. If this is unacceptable behavior I would ask that he be discouraged from further behavior as "stepping it up" will simply result in the same back and that is not working towards improving this encyclopedia. It is just a battle.--Amadscientist (talk) 16:15, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Artistry

[edit]

i want to add an artistry section for one direction like the Rihanna#Artistry and Lady Gaga#Artistry with influences, musical style, public image, except their a group so do i still call the section "Artistry". AdabowtheSecond (talk) 15:47, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Artistry" would always be a bad word to use in relation to "One Direction". The cynical side of me says that "Manufacturing specifications" would be the best title. Seriously, I wouldn't provide a top level header: you already have sections on most of those topics, and any additional material you want to add should just be added in the individual sections.—Kww(talk) 16:14, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's just like loading images: that's why it's called "Upload file" (or "bestand uploaden", depending on how you have your interface set). I will say that you invariably choose some of the worst articles I can imagine to treat as examples. Both of those are horrendously bloated, and need an axe taken to them. Wikipedia articles on songs and albums should be concise. Paragraphs describing chart trajectories and the clothing worn during live performances are not required.—Kww(talk) 18:24, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nickelback sockpuppet help (again)

[edit]

Someone is at the Nickelback article again, editing similarly to Joseph201/Zelda201/Drecool1/Stuffat, etc.

It's User Talk:Wiiurules He hasn't been around as long, so I'm not as sure as past times, but I'm tired of his games, and some of the signs are there: Reverting without explanation, adding excessively long quotes and other material that does nothing but glorify the band, tinkering with genre and charts, making awkward rambling additions, etc.

Thanks in advance if you get the chance to look into it. Sergecross73 msg me 19:57, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One Direction

[edit]

What do you think of the One Direction main article? just wondering it has really good reviews 4star+ for every category with over 5000 votes but i was just wondering what you thought as your so established. Honest opinion on Well-written-Trustworthy-Objective-Complete for every section would appreciate your thoughts AdabowtheSecond (talk) 04:39, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Overblown and verbose, appealing primarily to fans. Should be reduced to roughly 30% of its current size, with most detail about the members' personal lives and excessive detail about marketing tie-ins removed. There must be third party commentary somewhere that compares and contrasts them to other similarly-manufactured bands (i.e. The Monkees, The Archies, and the Backstreet Boys) and that should be added.—Kww(talk) 18:20, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
i know what you mean with the third party; i'm a fan so adding negative stuff isn't really in my nature when it comes to 1D. But there aren't alot of editors on Wikipedia that help out current-boy band articles (see for example JLS, The Wanted, Big Time Rush (band), Hot Chelle Rae all of them are bad/short articles; especially their sub articles, in my opinion). i was already going to add manufacturing to image however what do you think of the current One Direction#Members section, i think it has approved I think their early lives, influences aren't fancrufty in my opinion - what do you think still needs to be removed? A little help

[edit]

Hey! I have a problem introducing a new parameter to the {{Albumchart}} template. I want to give the editor the alturl= parameter for when:

  1. The album name contains special characters that the album= parameter doesn't handle correctly and returns an url error.
  2. When the template will be used for year-end charts instead of weekly charts, so that the editor can provide the year-end chart's url.
  3. When the chart position is retrieved from a source other than the supported by {{albumchart}} such as Billboard's Chart Beat or Allmusic.

I can use some help, since i'm trying using the #else parameter (as if it were C, mainly because i think that if #if exists, then #else must) and i'm going nowhere.

I've successfully achieved the "manual referencing" mode, which is the parameter i wanted to introduce. I've updated the template (i tested the changes on my sandbox for about 3 hours) since it works perfectly. --—Hahc21 [TALK][CONTRIBS] 18:20, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On the GAN main page, below how to nominate and article and how to review an article are two pass and fail boxes. Since the main GAN page is automated, this is the only step that needs to be done; any tinkering with article history will be done by the bot. Insertion of "Michigan Rock and Roll Legends" material by COI SPA user

[edit]

I've come across new user Drjandlynn who has spent the past 6 weeks industriously adding mentions of non-notable "Michigan Rock and Roll Legends" to various music articles. The Hour Detroit article mentions the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame", not the "Michigan Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". There is no "Michigan Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". The title "Michigan Rock and Roll Legends" was chosen to avoid confusion with the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". Sockpuppet has returned

[edit]

Hi there Kww, It's been almost a year since we had this problem but User:Pesf is back editing and vandalising articles under the new guise of User:Eurowitt1234. I don't want to see him starting an edit war and my evidence for believing this user to be a sockpuppet is as you said in previous conversation that he always uses 1234 at the end of his new name such as he did in September 2011 with User:Madiera1234 and the time before however I cannot remember what he called himself then, perhaps you know? He is also vandalising the same pages as he did previously such as the Boyzone articles and the Progressed (EP) article amongst many others. Would it be possible for you to look into this for me as I know you have dealt with this sock puppetry before. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. Mi Novia Se Me...

[edit]

I don't get it. The guideline says: "Songs that have been ranked on national or significant music charts, that have won significant awards or honors or that have been independently released as a recording by several notable artists, bands or groups are probably notable." It doesn't say they're not notable, but probably not. Also, that same guideline says: "Notability aside, a separate article on a song is only appropriate when there is enough verifiable material to warrant a reasonably detailed article."

"Mi Novia Se Me Está Poniendo Vieja" has enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article outside of the main album article. Why then, the article doesn't meet that guideline, if it meets GNG already? --—Hahc21 14:43, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I always read WP:NSONGS as a limiting guideline, saying that we shouldn't have articles on the vast majority of songs. You are reading the "Notability aside ..." text exactly backwards: it doesn't say that "even if it's not notable, you can write an article if it will be big", it says "even if you can prove notability, don't write the article if it will be small".
That said, I get overridden at AFD sometimes. Other times I don't. I honestly don't believe we should have an article on the song, because it would appear to be just another album track, and we generally shouldn't have articles about album tracks. If you restore the article again, I will nominate it for deletion. If consensus is that the article should be kept, I won't cause a fuss.—Kww(talk) 15:13, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was released as a promotional single. I won't restore it. I'm thinking about taking it for deletion by myself to clarify this. I'm not interested on edit warring or making conflicts but to have a better understanding. I'm just confused because it was released as a single on iTunes, AT&T used it on their Mother's Day campaign and Arjona sang it many times, and it was covered by several newspapers as a single. Also, it has a music video. But maybe you're right. —Hahc21 15:22, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't do it as a test. It's normally considered disruptive to take an article to AFD unless you honestly believe it should be deleted.—Kww(talk) 15:25, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you're right. I honestly believe it should stay, not being deleted... —Hahc21 15:28, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I will restore the article. I can't live with it as it is right now (a redirect). Feel free to AfD it of you wish. I'n not doing this to use AfD as a test: It's just the fact that i don't feel comfortable with the article being only a redirect with so many information bout the song that's not on the main article. Cheers! —Hahc21 17:22, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

List of vegans

[edit]

You may recall I was involved in a dispute with User:SlimVirgin about the List of vegans a couple of months ago. You reverted her for using false edit summaries.

User:Muleattack and I were in full agreement that adding images to the table itself and ordering the table by nationality are detrimental to the article (Talk:List_of_vegans/Archive_2#Suggestions). However, these objections were ignored and the changes undertaken. The table is ridiculously bloated now, and considering that veganism has nothing to do with nationality (it's not like it's a list of heads of state), then it is not a good criterion for ordering the list i.e. if you want to see if someone is vegan you are more likely to search for the name than their country; you may not even know their country! A further objection was voiced by Muleattack at Talk:List_of_vegans/Archive_2#United_States (see bottom of section), but this was completely ignored by SlimVirgin and User:Andomedium.

What is more frustrating is that even though these edits are ongoing and and objections were being voiced on the article talk page, rather than responding to them, SlimVirgin accelerated automatic archiving from 90s days to 2 weeks. The talk page isn't a particularly active talk page, and there can be no explanation other than to get the objections quickly archived out of view: [15]

However, while I bailed on the situation (I really haven't got the time and energy to deal with people who are truly against collaborative editing and have resolved to basically leave her to her own devices) I received a message today about the article from another editor, exasperated by Slim Virgin's tactics. Muleattack is a long-standing contributor to the vegetarian/animal-rights articles, and now feels there is no point to him continuing on Wikipedia. I understand exactly where he is coming from. His objections (which were more or less in tandem with mine) have been completely ignored and filed away.

I don't really know what can be done about the situation, and I don't know if Muleattack would want to continue working on the article if the situation could somehow be worked out, but the whole things stinks if you ask me. I don't want to dump it in your lap, I appreciate it's not really your problem, but I went through 3/4 boards last time and got some pretty rough treatment for what I believed was a valid complaint. I honestly think something needs to be done about this admin, and I am shocked that someone who completely lacks a collaborative approach to editing could ever become an admin to be honest. [edit]

Hello, as you took part in the 1st AFD for Lamia (Dungeons & Dragons), which closed on "no consensus", I'm bringing to your attention that after a second AFD with the same result, a discussion on whether to merge or not has opened on the article talk page. [edit]

Actually I used the Portuguese page as source. This is also indicated in the Talk page to the artist. Please refer to http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luka and to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Luka_(singer). You may refer to Brazilian and Portuguese charts as bad charts, but the #1 position is that of Brazil Hot 100. Luka actually has an international hit. So thanks for keeping the positions for "Tô Nem Aí" in Austria, Switzerland and Nederlands #61. Here is the debut single concerned http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meAdbab15IA broadcast on MTV. There is also a a version by Maria which was also greatly received. Here is that recording by Maria Dal Rovere http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4fWu-oazvg But let's suppose just for arguments sake that "Tô Nem Aí" didn't happen in Europe. Then what do we do with an act like Luka, an immense success in Brazil with multiple chart topping hits many #1s? Do we have to rely merely on the fact she broke European markets to be able to be recognized as a Brazilian successful acts if we cannot resort to Brazilian charts that reflect far bigger successes of her simply because they are bad? I see Luka as a great example and a precursor to the Brazilian craze that is engulfing Europe with Michel Telo ("Ae se eu te pego!") [16] or Gusttavo Lima ('Balada") [17]. Cidinho y Doca also achieved this fortunate status with "Rap das Armas" [18] ... It seems very strange and unfair to me to say "Ai se eu te pego!" is a hit in France, Italy, Germany, Sweden and not mention that it was an immense hit in its home country Brazil and in Portugal as well long before the Europeans heard of the song. Such an approach of relying on European charts to the exclusion of local charts from many countries unfortunately reinforces the Eurocentricity of many of our coverages. This would be the case for many other Brazilian hits and we end up by promoting just Western European and North Anmerican acts only occasionally a very few "third world" acts that do break these European charts. In any coverage of music we do for a huge majority of African local acts (say Nigeria, or South Africa or Angola or Morocco), they will appear in bad charts so will all Asian and Latin American acts. So will Eastern European acts from Romania or Greece or Russia. This is a great opportunity actually to discuss how artists and hits from the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, Central and Southern America and the Caribbean artists need to be treated owing to lack of good charts in almost all these countries and how can we demonstrate their successes ion their own countries. My take is that we should be more accomodating and be able to give some references to local charts at least. There surely are at least partially reliable charts we can use. I know Billboard recently started a Brazilian Billboard chart of its own werldwayd (talk) 18:39, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking

[edit]

You said on Calvin999's page that "blocked users aren't permitted to attempt to help the project." That would seem to fly directly in the face of WP:BLOCK's statement that "Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia." If a blocked editor isn't disrupting WP, there's no reason to prevent them from trying to help -- it's banning that retracts editing privileges. Blocking only retracts editing ability. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 21:13, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

30 Minute Love Affair

Hi. I was wondering if 30 Minute Love Affair currently fails WP:NSONGS? It has only just been announced as the next single, hasn't charted and won't be released until 12 August. I don't think there is enough information around about the song yet and the article currently contains links to two album reviews and two YouTube videos. I know that if I redirect it, my edit will be probably be undone immediately (there's an editor involved who I've had disagreements with in the past), so would you be able to keep an eye on it? - JuneGloom Talk 14:58, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notifying article creators of an en masse AfD

[edit]

Hello Kww. I know we've discussed the practice of informing article creators when nominating pages for deletion before, but I was wondering if you could check on Edinburgh_Wanderer (talk · contribs)'s comments [[21]]. SplashScreen (talk) 23:18, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Its is common good practice to advise article creators. its not canvassing as i have clearly set out. Also actually most were created by the same group of people so it isn't even large numbers at all. Screen is clearly doing to make a point with I don't like it and I'm clearly seeing i didn't hear that as well. He hasn't told even a few of the article creators. Who is canvassing clearly SplashScreen by coming to you. I only came across this through looking at a recent report of edit warring behaviour by Splash. i couldn't care less about these tv pages what i do care about it someone nominating to make a point without advising anybody.Edinburgh Wanderer 23:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also before coming to my page did you even look at the articles. The first fifteen I've opened were all created by the same editor. Only a couple of notifications from Splash would of covered the majority of editors.Edinburgh Wanderer 23:35, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As you are a clearly involved admin with Splash Screen i don't take much from your Threat which you have tried to word as advice nor do i perceive it to be accurate. Tell me how nominating that volume of articles to make a point without notifying one single editor is not disruptive. Six editors is not canvasing as covered clearly and rather precisely at WP:Canvass. Six editors is not a large or excessive amount. He should have let at the very least the main editor aware.Edinburgh Wanderer 23:46, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and there are already four participants in a very short space of time without me or Splash notifying any of them.Edinburgh Wanderer 23:48, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And if you believe i have violated WP:Canvass either block me or report. I feel extremely strongly that i can argue a very could case that this is not Canvassing i also feel that looking at Splash that there is a very could case that act was done to be disruptive and that but notifying you someone he is clearly involved with.Edinburgh Wanderer 23:52, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Six is not excessive in any way shape or form as I've said go ahead and report but it does not state a limit and in any dictionary six will never be considered excessive. Its a common courtesy that the majority of editors will do. He has done this to make a point that is clear rather disruptive. Edinburgh Wanderer 23:55, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not correct i have notified the two main editors which i was quite within my rights to do. And no I'm not saying i will I'm saying that if it do an you block me then your case is severely flawed a definition of excessive is above normal, usual, reasonable, or proper limit. Six is reasonable and is there is no proper limit.Edinburgh Wanderer 23:58, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Take to ANI then immediately i don't appreciate being threatened by an involved admin. Six is not excessive I've notified two editors again not excessive which he should have done. In fact you should have. Edinburgh Wanderer 00:00, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And four editors who i never spoke to have participated before even a few hours have lapsed so your theory is severely flawed. Also i advised them before your threat and even if if did advise anyone else i do not consider using the standard templete advising the creator of the article to be canvasing, pushing for votes or even me telling them how to. As far as I'm concerned American articles can be deleted i don't care for them however when someone clearly presents a flawed argument, nominating on extreme scales to make a point that without advising one editor that is not on.Edinburgh Wanderer 00:05, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe i should advise someone else then because i don't believe you can prove that me advising an editor who created an article is canvassing. His opening statement tells me your involved also you not bothering to check the situation of how many editors were actually to be notified or checking whether i had tells me you jumped straight on the band wagging without doing one ounce of research. That is not admin like an admin should look in to the situation and advise without clear threats you also cannot prove that Six is excessive nor that two is excessive. And poor judgement I'm seeing that from you.Edinburgh Wanderer 00:10, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And thats now five non that i have advised.Edinburgh Wanderer 00:15, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because you haven't replied and a couple of other users have mentioned at the AFD that this was not canvassing I feel it will only be correct to start a discussion on this. Given over one hundred articles were nominated and nobody notified I think a clarification is required. I think Village pump or maybe AN may be the best. I'll let you know and all involved once I've started it. It won't be about you rather the point in question. Edinburgh Wanderer 13:33, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Skeptoid (2nd nomination) AFD close

[edit]

Six people said the sources were enough to justify a keep, including Allecher who put a line through his original merge vote, and said keep based on improvements added to the article. Four said to merge it. And the nominator apparently wanted it deleted. Consensus seemed to be it should be kept. Dream Focus 14:22, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

6-4 isn't a consensus, but given the lack of one, then the decision should have been to keep. Moreover, you didn't even actually merge the article, just deleted the original, leaving out a whole bunch of work that editors did on the deleted article. Your comments reversing the original "keep" decision by Colonel Warden weren't very informative, except for slapping Warden for keeping, which I thought was his prerogative under Wikipedia's arcane rules and regulations. Absent your comments, I guess we can make a Deletion Review. SkepticalRaptor (talk) 05:16, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, the page was deleted not merged? I've been out of town and wondered what happened with the vote. Expected to see the page still up just based on the comments and votes I read before leaving town. Very surprised to see it deleted. As mentioned Allecher changed his vote after more edits were done. I think there was a mistake made here. The decision IMO should have been keep, or wait longer. I'm still not clear on the reason for the delete. Sgerbic (talk) 06:06, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, it was not deleted.—Kww(talk) 06:09, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[23]Delete or replaced with a redirect, same thing, article no longer there. [24] How was it a "improper non-admin close"? The AFD was open for 8 days. There was no consensus to delete/(replace with a redirect). Dream Focus 08:29, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My reasoning is here. If you think more information belongs in the target article, feel free. My judgment was that the copying that had taken place during the AFD was sufficient.—Kww(talk) 09:09, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Robin Hood (2010 film)

[edit]

Dear Kww, thank you for contributing to the article on Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. Unfortunately, I don't agree with your reversion, because Babelstone initiated the dispute by removing consensus material, see Talk:Robin_Hood_(2010_film)#Historical_inaccuracies. The burden was on him to show that it was inappropriate, not on others to show that it was appropriate. Thus, in accordance with Wikipedia policy, the material should remain until a new/revised consensus is reached. However, I do not wish to engage in an edit war, so I will not revert the deletion at this stage. Separately, I notice that you lived in Bonaire: I will be going there this winter, staying at Dan's Habitat.--Gautier lebon (talk) 07:27, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, i understand that, but i didn't remember the preview option at the time and i clarified in my edit summaries it was merely a test edit, a test edit i reverted immediately upon seeing if i suceeded in adding addiotion sections to the infobox, with intentions far from simulating a false demise. Hello, Kww. thanks for your recent contributions to my talk page on the subject of deletion of articles created by a banned user. For some strange reason, though, each time you post to my talk page, a big red message appears, saying "Citefout: De tag <ref> bestaat, maar de tag <references/> is niet aangetroffen". I have found that this can be cured by removing the &mdash (followed by a semicolon) </nowiki>from before your signature. Now I've not been around for a good 18 months so dunno how active Brexx has been. I suspect Countdown is just a new user who's unsure of what they're doing. As for MPQzy i'm not so sure. He/She seems to have ignited some of the same old Ciara issues on her historic pages that Brexx did. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 16:34, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Both are most likely him. More so the second than the first, it appears. Statυs (talk) 02:48, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bubbling Under discussion

Since you changed the policy, you might want to weigh in here. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 12:17, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lopez

[edit]

Hey buddy, long time. So I see an edit war brewing, so I'd like your input please. The article lists her at 70 million records and links to List of best-selling music artists, which lists her at 50. I told Status that this kind of blatant contradiction can't be allowed. Additionally, on that article, there has been consensus for an artist to usually require their certified sales to cover 50% of the claimed figure. Lopez's stands at (I believe) 26 million, so as you see, 50 is already pushing it. This was establish for this exact reason, to avoid fans from posting outrageous claims for artists like Gaga, Rihanna etc. If anything, these rules and consensus should be followed, or at least a new discussion opened. Also, this ridiculous talk of "Legacy" articles and what not, it needs addressing before they actually try to create something of that nature. Thanks!--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 18:29, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Will you get rid of Brexx already, Kevin? :/ Really annoying me right now... Statυs (talk) 03:29, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If it was Brexx, I would. It's not, so you'll have to show me evidence of disruption.—Kww(talk) 05:12, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Did you checkuser to confirm it was Tremanshoe? I'd almost forgotten about him. =/ I thought we would be over and done with this socking business. Will you be able to clear up their edits? — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 18:04, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can't checkuser, and it's unnecessary. Once he admitted he was the IP from Warren, Michigan, that's enough. I undid the easy ones. You can feel free to undo any other edits he made. Most of his stuff is too entwined in the articles for me to easily revert.—Kww(talk) 18:12, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Helloow Kww tomorrow the semi-protection for the One Direction comes to an end and as we all now be now, fans of 1D like to vandalize so asking to be alert tommorow and be ready to re-protect the article, because once the page is unprotected it will be attacked. Regards AdabowtheSecond (talk) 18:02, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Be alert vandalism about to go down. AdabowtheSecond (talk) 00:54, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need Some Advice

[edit]

Hi Kev. Need some advice. I've been trying to add information to Woman to Woman (Keyshia Cole album) but unfortunately it keeps being reverted by a user who according to their personal page and the comments left on my page is an executive/works for Cole's record label. I've tried engaging with discussion (on my talk page, his talk page and the article talk page). I've let things die down a few days and then reduced by editing to improving reference formatting, prose and adding more references. All of which has been reverted. I did previously raise it at WP:ANI but it didn't seem to be taken seriously as an issue. The user's latest argument is "why expand an article if there is no need". What do you think I should do? Is it worth raising another ANI? — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 21:17, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, explain, please

[edit]

Regarding your revert (despite my somewhat explicit suggestion to use the article discussion page instead of simply reverting), could you perhaps explain the "directly against guideline" bit? I don't think I am seeing the same thing you are. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 05:59, 16 August 2012 (UTC) [reply]

Hello, Kww. You have new messages at Jack Sebastian's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Second opinion request

[edit]

Hi Kww! Rather than involving myself in a revert-war (over a redirect) at Beg, Borrow, and Steal, I figured it would be best to request to request a second opinion. When you've got a spare moment, perhaps you can take a quick look. Thanks!  -- WikHead (talk) 17:59, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Drive Safe!

FYI, I have started a new ANI (UPDATE: now in archives but unresolved) on a matter in which you have previously expressed interest, the Michigan global warming external link spammer.

Per WP:ILLEGIT, "in the case of sanctions, bans, or blocks, evasion causes the timer to restart". An admin still has to push buttons to tell the server that the timer has restarted before the server erroneously allows it to expire on Sept 2. Since the current 30-day range block was put in place, this Michigan sock has engaged in 10 block-evading editing sessions (six of which were caught in time to impose short term blocks on specific IPs used). It is my belief the blocked range is for the user's home and they are slowed down now only by the inconvenience of editing elsewhere. Please do not let the 30-day range block erroneously expire on the server. The quoted policy says the act of evasion is what restarts the clock. We still need someone to push those buttons. Pending Changes

[edit]

Hi Kww, I was just re-reading your comment at the last RfC ... there aren't a lot of pro-PC2 anti-PC1 votes, so I'd appreciate any insights you want to offer on my talk page any time. I've mentioned some of the issues I have with Pending Changes in various posts at WT:PC2012. - Dank (push to talk) 17:43, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OpenCart should be reopened

[edit]

OpenCart should be reopened so that it can be edited and improved. Else you should also close down Magento and prestashop. OpenCart exists as article on wikipedia.de — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.224.79.185 (talk) 19:58, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kww! I know that it seem to fail NSONG but as far as I see, it doesn't. It has become the fastest-selling pre order song and has charted on 40 charts of different countries about pre-order singles and certainly this is notable enough. (Sources: [26] [27] [28]) It is just what I conclude and your opinion might even differ but I wanted to get clarified that isn't this enough to be notable? An afd might even serve as a good platform to get input that what community thinks about it. TheSpecialUser TSU 22:09, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • If Wikipedia cannot warrant an article for the fastest selling pre-order single in history, Wikipedia needs to work on their guidelines in my opinion, I know this is in prosperity of Wikipedia, like all of your work, but there are exceptions and this is one of them. Eschatology

Hello Kww. Do you know if there's a policy somewhere about this kind of thing? SlightSmile 01:38, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Albumchart

[edit]

I have an issue i've been unable to solve. {{Albumchart}} is not working well with the refname= parameter, not even the standar refname "sc_Chart_Artist" mode. I don't know why but it's not working. I tried to do some tweaks on my sandbox, but the result was unsuccessful. So, i would like to have you taking a look at the template and see what the hell os going on there. I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks. — ΛΧΣ21 04:59, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
