Of course, you're right on the money here, but I don't know how much good it will do. It's depressing to see excellent candidates who are mature and sensible have a rough ride at RfA for these kinds of reasons. I agree with you that many peoples' standards and expectations are way out of whack, but I haven't had much success in changing them. It pretty much guarantees that we get a lot of admins with the right balance of XfD and Template talk: edits but not much clue about the big picture. I can think of a half-dozen candidates like Moni3, obviously thoughtful and dedicated contributors who'd be great admins, who have failed at RfA for truly depressing reasons. Sigh. MastCell Talk 17:18, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Stop Making Sense? Stop being Nonsensical then! Yeah, see my next response, the one responding to synergy's rebuttal of the comment you just linked. I know very well it won't do any good. What "does" happen isn't necessarily what "should" happen. Keeper ǀ 76 17:29, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi

In reading over the discussion (apparently moved to the talk page), Avruch would seem to be right, people seem to be talking past each other.

But all that aside:

  • If anyone, after looking through Moni3's communicative and collaborative editing, actually thinks that she will spuriously block someone, they clearly didn't do enough research.

Adminship is about more than blocking.

And I went through every edit in her contribution history. (Please see her talk page for more information.)

And I had more concerns, but (for me at least) the ones I listed were enough.

Having concerns is not equal to disliking someone, or thinking that they are a "bad person". It's about having concerns about trust with the tools and responsibilities of adminship.

You make it clear you would, while I have concerns.

Difference of opinion or interpretation is not necessarily a bad thing.

Anyway, I guess I was just surprised at your comments. - jc37 18:22, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

And I yours. We'll continue to disagree on this candidate, whatever happens. I appreciate your post here, I probably worded that I little harsher than was intended, and it wasn't intended to be directed specifically and exclusively at you, although it certainly appears that way, being in a thread about your oppose. It was more intended towards the general sentiment of "didn't answer Q4 right" type opposition. I have no doubt that you did thorough research into the candidate, you always do. We simply came to a different conclusion on this one, and as always, I believe very strongly that I'm right. :-) It will be bygones soon enough. Keeper ǀ 76 18:29, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Your request on User talk:MastCell...

...has been denied. We do not block on request, please see WP:BLOCKME. If you wish to be blocked, I'm afraid you'll need to go vandalize an article 4 times like everybody else. --barneca (talk) 19:41, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Haven't I been here long enough to automatically be given the {{secondchance}} template, along with at least 5 ANI reports, two RFCs, a partridge, a(nother) WQA report, a reconfirmation RFA, an RFAR, 2 more ANI reports, three huffy retirements of my "supporters", and a pear tree to keep everything, before I'm blocked? 4 vandalisms and a block? Fuck, I think I vandalize like a dozen times per day! Keeper ǀ 76 19:47, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
And is it bad that I can't f-ing bluelink the 2nd chance template? Guess that tells you how often I've used that little number....Keeper ǀ 76 19:48, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry Frank, I thought you were just asking for advice, and planned to close it yourself. I would have done it if I had seen that you had already voted. GlassCobra 22:13, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
No problem; it's not always obvious online what is being requested, and I can be pretty spare with my words sometimes... anyway it's done, as Keeper says...for now :-) (He might have been referring to Prince Chunk but I'm over that now. Really. :-)

Article needing to be deleted

Hello,

I am having trouble due to some Barack Obama supporters who refuse to follow rules.

The article Family of Barack Obama should be deleted, please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Obama family. You'll notice that this article was already shown to not be notable and was nominated for deletion. The content was moved into this new article name, and the old article name is now being used to direct to this article. Should be deleted asap.

Also, the article is about one notable persons non-notable family. Articles about notable families like the Kennedys are included because they have many well known and notable individuals in that family not just one or two. The "Obama Family" is not a notable entity like the Kennedys, it's not a royal family, it's just a list of non-notable people related to Obama. Please see wikipedias official policy on making genealogical entries like this one WP:NOTDIRECTORY. QuirkyAndSuch (talk) 13:52, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Your post seems a little misleading to me, you refer to WP:Articles for deletion/Obama family which was indeed closed as 'delete' in May, but it was then recreated in a somewhat different form and (just) survived an AfD discussion in July, WP:Articles for deletion/Obama family (2nd nomination). If you think the closure of the second debate was incorrect, I don't think asking various admins ([2] [3] [4]) to delete it without further discussion is the way to go. ~ mazca t | c 14:53, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Mazca here, QuirkyAndSuch. Asking around isn't how it's done on Wikipedia, you will very unlikely find an admin that will just say "OK, you're right", and delete it. Won't happen. If you disagree with the closing admin's intepretation of the debate and close rationale, you can ask the closing admin to explain. If the closing admin isn't cooperative, or you still don't agree, you are welcome, and encouraged, to take the deletion discussion to the next level, which is deletion review. If the outcome there is to "keep" the article, you'll have to live with it for a while. It can always be renominated, or revisited at a later date, but be advised, that renominating something for deletion "too soon" after a consensus discussion is seen, often times, as disruptive and pointy. Happy editing, Keeper ǀ 76 16:05, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Man with a tan

How's this for a marvellous example of an editor who really wants to be unblocked. Check the edit summary. [5] Guy (Help!) 17:45, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Oh, no worries, I'm not losing sleep over him or chomping to unblock him. The "luls in vietnam" combined with the racist userpage are enough for me really. He's done a mild amount of productive work though, he just won't let the IP issues go, or the apparent issues with you, even more so now that you've blocked him. I've tried to reason with him, I've posted my last there. If he really is the "victim" of trolling on and off wiki, I have just a shred of sympaty for him. I unblocked him last time, he got trolled again, and reacted exactly wrong. I'm not about to unblock again, as I said above on my own talkpage. I really am just hoping for an explanation from him, so I can unwatchlist and not think about it again. If he pops anything logical, I'll be sure to chat with you before I do any admin action. Cheers, Keeper ǀ 76 17:50, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

I seem to recall that occasionally (just occasionally) threads on this page veer slightly off topic, so I've decided this is as good a place as any to say that I once saw was near a semi-bad car accident. It was one of those where you could see what was about to happen for a good solid 5 seconds before, and my wife says the whole time we were watching it unfold I was saying "No, no, no, no, no, no, no" and honking our horn. I remember honking the horn, but the weird thing is, I don't remember saying anything at all. She says I was praying. Actually, what she says is "the only prayer I've ever heard you say is "no, no, no, no, no, no". And I do remember, right before the impact, I actually did close my eyes because I didn't want to see it happen. Does that make me a better person than you, Mister "then you wouldn't get to see how it "all goes down"....", or does that just make me more squeamish? --barneca (talk) 21:05, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh thank God we aren't typing in small font. To answer your question, you need to watch more cable and less "Little House on the Prairie". Keep your eyes open! How else will you be able to assist that poor driver searching for his arm in the ditch if you don't see where it lands??? I've watched cars flip over - it's terrifying, but I'm desensitized to it for sure. I've been in two head on collisions as a driver myself, and once as a passenger, never seriously injured, except perhaps based on evidence apparent, mentally. I know exactly what those 5 seconds feel like though. Keeper ǀ 76 21:09, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
No, I'm hopeless. Honest to God, I can't watch any of those "America's stupidest waste of time video blooper outakes" shows, because I literally can't stand to watch people getting physically hurt. Broken limbs are the worst; those skateboarders trying to slide down stair banisters and breaking an arm when it all goes wrong freak me out, and I still remember (long time ago) the horror of watching Joe Theisman break his leg on national television. But I can't even watch ER without occasionally closing my eyes. Truly pathetic. --barneca (talk) 21:19, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Yep. Pathetic. I have TIVO, so not only do I watch Joe Theisman, etal, break there leg, I watch it over and over again. Sometimes in slow motion, pausing on the exact moment. Sick, I know. Can't help it. This thread has served no purpose, other than to keep Mizcabot from archiving it for two more days. So the MYspace continues, with Barneca as the guilty party. What do you want me to respond about?

What evidence do you want me to respond to? TRM was talking about an email exchange we had a few days back about IRC, it had nothing to do with Evula, or the situation that you brought up. Ryan PostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 22:59, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Where did I say anything about wanting you to respond to "evidence", or anything for that matter? I simply said I didn't like the diff I saw from you that you posted on EVula's talkpage, it made my hair stand up. You explained it, I said I believe you, and agree to dustbin it, meaning my concern. You and I have disagreed a lot lately it seems on different issues (Kurt's ACC access, Dweller's rfb). No biggie, it happens. After my last post there, you then had an extended convo with TRM that I know nothing about, and I'm assuming that you and he can work out your difference. Keeper ǀ 76 15:09, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Miracle at Camden Yards?

so much for Miracle on 34th Street, I much preferred today's miracle. Pavano gets a win in his first start since April 2007. Hell, Pavano starts? :o Speaks volumes that they brought him up over Hughes. I agree with that decision. That said, Lester shelled again? What's happening to the Sox pitching in recent weeks? That's not very Sox-esque. TravellingCari 05:29, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

When to see Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees last nite. Chase Wright pitches 7 shutout innings, yet Pavano gets the start? I feel like a stranger on this planet. Shapiros10 contact meMy work 13:28, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Lucky - I want to see a Scranton game. Haven't made it yet. Chase Wright wasn't in the cards for this start, I remember reading somewhere they wanted to give him some time and not rush. I think Pavano will get another start, he earned it. TravellingCari 18:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
It's worth the trip. But if the next person who screws up will be replaced by either Wright or Alfredo Aceves (giving Jason Jones time to go back to AAA). Shapiros10 contact meMy work 19:28, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Not according to the game I'm listening to -- they just interviewed Girardi and Cashman who said we won't see Wright until late September, at best. What I see is another long reliever coming up to extend the bullpen -- though there is an off day tomorrow which would help. TravellingCari 19:53, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Hahaha, that's excellent. That said, I've also extracted some amusement from this by taking phrases I don't understand such as "a long reliever coming up to extend the bullpen" to be some kind of crude sexual euphemism. ;) ~ mazca t | c 21:05, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Endurance down the stretch is another easily twisted, but I'll try to keep this clean for Sam. And no worries Mazca, I felt the same whilst living in Australia and trying to understand AFL, Rugby and Cricket. I spent some time in Darwin during the Ashes and our common area was "divided" between Australia and England fans -- I asked for the "who gives a damn" section. I wonder what the limit is on "back and forth" replies between two editors before they realize that the person's talkpage that they are using isn't involved in the convo. :-). and you know I don't mind a bit, or edit weekends :-). And Mazca, I understood every word they said, enlightening conversation, its just too bad it's "all for not" because the yankee season will be over and done with at the end of september while the good teams continue play into October. I don't care who they call up, send down, reassign, release, trade, or develop. Too little, too late. Keeper ǀ 76 14:18, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
LMAO, think of it as a welcome back present for this morning. You really think the White Sox are going to fall out of it? The issue with Yankees/Boston/Tampa is how often we're playing one another -- it's like that old game of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. I know we also play the Pale Hose but by then I think it will be decided or very close. Nice to have meaningful games going down the stretch. I will not count out the Yankees until they're mathematically eliminated, and you wouldn't expect anything less. TravellingCari 15:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

WP:OR question

It's kinda hard to work up the stones to ask for help here, seeing as how this page gets more viewers than the olympics (probably more participants too) and if I'm in the wrong, it's gonna be pretty gosh darn public. But, when I think "common sense" you're the first admin that comes to mind. I'm being reverted at Resident Evil: Degeneration for adding the line "The trailer also suggests an encounter with a creature showing signs of G-Virus mutations, similar to those of William Birkin from Resident Evil 2." having it labeled as OR.

If memory serves, you're a 30-ish baseball fan with a wife and kid, so I don't expect you to know much about video games. No offense. :-) But, basically, what I'm putting into the article says that this has similar symptoms to this from the end of this trailer where you can see it better. I'm not asking you to take any action, I'm just wondering if you'd consider it OR or not.--KojiDude (C) 21:49, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Regardless of my age, marital status, kid status, or otherwise, I know nothing about video games. Probably because I had a life right up until the exact point that I discovered Wikipedia, about a year ago. Leaving this one to the stalkers, for Koji's benefit...Keeper ǀ 76 21:52, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
From a cursory glance (while I like video games, I don't like Resident Evil very much) it rather looks like OR to me - you're reaching a conclusion based on your own analysis of screenshots, trailers, etc. I might be missing something here, but it sounds to me like the kind of conclusion that needs a source. ~ mazca t | c 22:07, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, the major symptoms/mutations of the G-Virus are the eye-like tumor, extra appendages, and the crude skull where the head is supposed to be (easier to see in the first picture). From observation, the creature at the end of the trailer shows all of those. I'm pretty sure I've worded the sentence so that it doesn't state anything as fact, but instead just notes the similarities. I'm not sure it's something I can source, but it seems more like a common-sense observation than original thought.--KojiDude (C) 22:15, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
If you can't source it, then it's OR. QED. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 22:19, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I reported a user for violating the three revert rule last night and there still isn't a resolution over at the 3RR noticeboard. I know this isn't the admin help desk, but I figured someone with phenomenal cosmic powers could tidy this one up. No I don't think he qualifies for a block which wouldn't solve anything in the long term other than temporarily giving me some peace as he equally believed he was doing what was right even if he is going about it the wrong way by picking on isolated images rather than on our general policy. However, one thing's for sure I don't like the thought of this editor watching every move I make and being there to delete things within minutes of uploading. Five or six deletions in just a few days and half of them withing minutes of uploading seems inappropriate. The Bald One White cat 21:43, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

It certainly never feels good to feel "watched", I agree, and I find it unfortunate that (on first impression) it appears that damien is watching your every move. I hope that's not the case, because that would be a perfect example of trolling/stalking. He thinks he's right though, as you said, whether he is or not is "up for grabs". Personally I feel he is over-zealous and a bit legalistic. Again though, that's a first impression, I haven't dug deep enough. Keep doing what you do best though baldy, don't worry about the wiki-police (you never have, why start now???). This place would be exponentially dumber without you here, don't let a little straw break your back. Keeper ǀ 76 21:50, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
I've found that you get used to the wiki-police watching your every move, so I agree with Keeper. Keep on doing what you keep on doing Blofeld. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 21:59, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks guys. What concerns me is that I've spent the last hour trying to find out exactly what he thinks is a valid rationale when I could have created 50 new Nepal town articles by now! I don't think he realises what I do on here and thinks I have time to fuss. I understand he is concerned about non free content and respect for payment of images but he still hasn't explained why he thinks certain images are not acceptable. Even if I had added every respect to the copywright under the sun and reasons why we are permitted to use it he would have rmeoved it. This Wiki-lawyering is so time consuming. At least I found a free image in that circumstance. I sincerely hope i can log in tomorrow and not see 10 new images up for the chop as I won't be best pleased. Kitia

He's not me. Kitia took the disruptive approach to editing, while I try to be as civil as possible in all situations. Kitia never wrote anything major, while I have 1 FA, 2 FACs, and 5 Gas to my name. It's just a coincidence. I have followed Kitia's edits since I encountered him in the DRV, so I found out about his involvement in supercentenarian-related articles. I decided I wanted to give it a better image than a project that produced many blocks (Ryoung122 (indef), Bart Versieck (many times) and NealIRC (a month (later) but never returned)) so I wrote Lazare Ponticelli, who had recently died, as an experiment. Eventually I decided to work on other things, but I do plan to return to the project someday. I also have a feeling that the user that has been vandalising my userpage is part of the sock system that accused me in the first place. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 22:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words. Sometimes I do use this as my ANI as it is much more lighthearted than the regular one, hence the above posting! And because you are THE BEST admin I have yet encountered. I undertand that myspacing is incurable, but still.... --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 22:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh, I'm about the most "myspacey" admin that you could find. :-). There is no way possible that I would pass an "RFA" in today's environment. I passed through relatively unscathed in a cold, dreary January week, 2008. I wouldn't pass today. Glad you find me to be "the best", I would dispute that claim however. :-) I don't do "article building", other than the random copyediting/CSd salvage job, but still, your opinion is heartwarming and appreciated. :) Keeper ǀ 76 22:32, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Foot editor?

I know there was something on AN/ANI of late about a foot obsessed editor but I cannot for the life of me figure out these posts to my talk. I asked, but the answer didn't make much sense. Anyone make heads or tales of this? I'm guessing an alt account of someone, other than the one declared, but I haven't the foggiest. This is a baseball page until I say it isn't. Baseball until October, then 2-4 weeks of intense emotional despondence, then Thanksgiving - a holiday designed to increase levels of intense emotional despondence by adding family and fatty foods to it. Then a football game (I always watch the Detroit one tan, never the pretty boys), then I enjoy football. I'm pretty sure I'm a Vikings fan, but that gets weaker and weaker every year. Wow, that lead needs help. The 1987 World Series was played between the Minnesota Twins and the St. Louis Cardinals, with both cities located on the banks of the Mississippi River. Wow, minutiae much?
This was the first year Major League Baseball used this particular World Series logo. Which one? Oh that one that has been deleted/removed? Right, that one. I remember the '87 series, remember '86 more when Dad called me into the den to tell me I was about to see history. And then Buckner. TravellingCari 19:39, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
I remember them calling the series "the series on the river" or some other nonsense to pump ratings ("series by the bay", "subway series", blah blah blah....I'm just really hoping this year isn't the Windy city series...I would clean up that article, but I definitely have a POV/COI. Because, sometimes, you need to Ignore All Rules

As you may have noticed, I enjoy injecting humour, bad puns and assorted silliness about this site. Today, the laughter stopped when I came upon something on Wikipedia that made me cry -- both the story of the child within the article and the notion that someone would want to erase that story. It is in the AfD section and this is it: [8]. I am not a fan of WP:IAR, but in this case I think all rules (and I mean all) need to be put aside to make an exception. See for yourself and, if you can, do the right thing by ignoring the rules in this case. You'll understand what I mean when you read the AfD and the article in question. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 01:07, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello there! Yorkshirian has taken his strop to a new level today. The guy was up in the dead of night making distruptive changes to the last twenty or so articles I'd editted, with bogus summaries. Yes, all reverted and blocked and tagged as socks in around 5 minutes, but I'd call that mental behaviour, and most definately harrassment.

If there's another round I think that's enough to warrent a range block. Can you advise? Is there a checkuser you could recommend to take a look at the size of the range? --Jza84 |  Talk  11:21, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, how frustrating. The relentlessness is the most disturbing. I'm starting to recognize his work a bit more, I've blocked (or tried to block - someone usually is faster on the buttons) a couple. As far as "recommending a checkuser", the only two that come to mind from experience are User:Alison and User:Thatcher. Also User:Sam Korn is CU I think? Keeper ǀ 76 14:04, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Quite. Very frustrating. I think this is most regrettable. Surely this isn't a simple case of a couple of socks to win over a vote for deletion - this is quite nasty, vindictive stuff. Sure I'm biased, but I think this needs escalating to a higher level, and don't really know who to turn to. I've loads of articles I want to work on, and this guy is stopping me. I've contacted User:Thatcher for an ip check, but I don't think people are feeling the bite quite how I am. --Jza84 |  Talk  17:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
If York et al is right, you'd be hard pressed to get Thatcher to do a rangeblock for any extended period of time. Has this guy ever done anything good here? I'm not suggesting anything other than that there is a person behind the edits somewhere, who is going about things completely and unobjectively wrong, but has he ever done anything right? He is relentless, and according to your diff (the "absolute evil" one), he doesn't think he's doing anything wrong. He is doing many many things wrong, and each new throwaway account that pops up makes it worse and worse. Did he ever do anything right? His massive trolling and attacking are unacceptable, but is there a way to get him to settle on one account, or is it too far past that now? These are honest questions, I'm certainly not defending his actions, but they have to stop - and unfortunately the only way perhaps to stop them is to engage him beyond RBI (which usually works, and I would say always works, eventually - but as you've seen there is usually also friendly fire, and usually other casualties of constant war). I'd hate to see you go over this. Yorkshirian, I'm 99% positive that you are reading this. What is your white flag moment? Post here, I won't block you. What the fuck do you want? Keeper ǀ 76 17:16, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Before he does, I think it's fair to point out that he forfeit his right to edit following his (2nd) arbcase, where he had a fair hearing and it was decided he was not fit to edit and not welcome for one year owing to the mass harm he does to WP. I was willing to compromise on a RFC, it didn't happen. I was willing to compromise at his RFA, he didn't want it. He was banned for one year (I would've been happy with a committment to behave, or failing that a 6 month ban), but he edit warred with socks and continued with his campaign (against others). And now we're at this silly spot now - I mean, he thinks that bullying and threats is going to help his cause? Come on. He's just not welcome anymore - he's had enough chances, and scared too many good users away. He needs to realise this is not Yorkipedia and he can't hold the community to randsom. --Jza84 |  Talk  17:24, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm unaware of the vast majority of that history. Do you have links to past arbcom stuff? I realize he's been "formally banned", I'm not advocating that he can simply start editing again because he agrees to edit with one account. I'd like to read the arbcom - do you have an easy to find link? Keeper ǀ 76 17:30, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Nevermind, I found the link to the arbcom. I'm sure its exciting reading, I'll go there now :-) Keeper ǀ 76 17:31, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Keeper, I simply want to be allowed to content edit, under one account and be left alone to get on with my contributing without being baited into heated disputes. That is all. I would much prefer to be doing that constructive effort, than all of "this" war of the last few days with the millions of sockpuppets, believe me. Jza could have chose to get on with his editing, but he decided to seek out socks thats were simply contributing work. And so now there is relentless war. - Yks Response (talk) 17:38, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
You realize you are banned from editing Wikipedia though? That has nothing to do with Jza. You are banned. By Arbcomm. Indefinitely. As in not welcome here. Every time you show up again, with a new account, you pound another nail in the proverbial coffin. There is no war. Wikipedia is <---that way, Yorkshirian needs to go ---->. This is the encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Thank you for your past contributions, some of which are perhaps positive contributions. You've done too many wrongs right now, and are not welcome to continue to edit. If, in your mind, that means you get to "war" with others, you are very wrong. You need to simply go away. Tell me why that isn't an option to you. What is the obsession? Why can't you just let it go? Keeper ǀ 76 17:41, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
I was pushed off the site, because of Jza in the first place (if you read the report) and his incessant bureaucracising any time he disagreed with me. I refuse to simply be bullied off from contributing to something as important as WP just because of that. As WP:IAR says "If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it." I'm here to improve content on the things I'm interested in, IAR is the laid down policy and I'm following it. If left alone that is all I would be doing, but no, some people would rather there be war and games. As I said I'm a content guy, not here for the "behind the scenes" brown nosing and games part. Anyway I've said what you wanted me to. Either way I'll still be here, if people wanna play Sherlock Holmes and waste time "seeking me out", catching one every now and again then that says more about them and their focus in the project than me. - Ykssterrr (talk) 17:56, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Are you honestly suggesting that Jza, acting alone, was able to convince a unanimous governing body, that you should be banned? That's the angle you're taking? Keeper ǀ 76 18:06, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
He's ignoring this. Instead, look how he's spending his time. --Jza84 |  Talk  19:33, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Quite. After you had reverted the addition of work after stalking me, yet again. You won't "beat" me James. If you continue to follow me and attempt to piss me off by purging work, you'll continue to get a reaction and it will be stronger each time. York, you are banned. Go away, you are not welcome here. Appeal to arbcom if you feel you been served an injustice. I will block on sight until I'm convinced that you have had your ban lifted from Arbcom. Keeper ǀ 76 19:48, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Probably best to not reply to him anymore, WP:DENY and all that jazz. Tan ǀ 39 19:50, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I know you're right tan, my first advice to Jza was revert, block ignore, but this guy is absolutely exasperating. I don't want to lose any more editors over his relentless attacks. I tried to engage him, he simply said "I'm going to continue on the path that I'm on", and so, yeah, you're right. Block on sight, +admin TPS-ers. Keeper ǀ 76 19:54, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure that range block is a bad idea? This is getting a little irksome. :S --Jza84 |  Talk  20:09, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
That really is up to a CU. I don't know the size of the range, nor do I have any expertise in the matter (I've never blocked a range). Have you heard back from Thatcher yet? Keeper ǀ 76 20:11, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm afraid not. He/She has been editting since I left a post, so I presume it's not something she's willing or able to take some time out for at the moment. I can appreciate that, these CUs must get loads of requests. I wonder why the account block isn't autoblocking Yorkie's ip though... strange. Perhaps I could/should ask User:Alison? Unless, that is, you have good relations with her or another CU who owes you a favour?... Desperate times and all... :S --Jza84 |  Talk  20:16, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
You can try User:Sam Korn or User:Alison, but you probably won't get very far. The problem is, York's IP changes it seems hourly. So "autoblocking", or "softblocking" are not effective, and York knows it. Right now, unless Thatcher, et al, says differently, RBI is the option. He's banned, it was unanimous at Arbcom, and I will support you (and anyone else) in rooting out his socks and banning them, one at a time. Very frustrating, but it "comes with the job" I'm afraid. Don't lose any sleep over it. His posts are harmless throwaway posts, they are easily identifiable, and they are easily and justifiably blocked. Focus on the ignore part. Keeper ǀ 76 20:21, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh his comments are no sweat. This guy is just incredibly distruptive - always has been. The trouble is, if he always will be.
There's a particular bunch of articles Yorkie's targeting, er, tonight (or today where you are based!):
  1. Olney, Buckinghamshire
  2. Talk:Scotland
  3. Heywood, Greater Manchester
  4. Oswestry
  5. History of Milton Keynes
  6. Hollinwood
  7. UK Film Council‎
  8. Henry Taylor (swimmer)
  9. Kinnaird, Atholl
  10. Ricky Hatton
They just happen to be the last twenty or so articles I editted. Others he's targetted include one's User:Nev1 I have been more closely involved with:
  1. Neilston
  2. Manchester
  3. Second city of the United Kingdom
  4. Sale, Greater Manchester
Finally, Yorkie likes to particularly own the following:
  1. Yorkshire
  2. History of Yorkshire
  3. Beverley
  4. Ripon
  5. Descendants of Charles I of England
His commons account (or at least one of them) goes by the name User:Thomas Gun. In the meantime, I'll try and seek a CU. --Jza84 |  Talk  20:32, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
First, let me know how the CU thing goes, I'd be surprised if there is a range block, but you never know. I'll watchlist each of the pages you've linked here, if for no reason other than you shouldn't feel isolated in your reverting of this banned user. that's the last thing I want is for you to feel that you are fighting "one-on-one". You are not the bad guy here, Jza. Any other talkpage stalkers, feel free to watchlist anything listed here that you feel up to watchlisting, and report here, on Jza's talkpage, or elsewhere, when you see a suspicious post? I appreciate it, as I'm sure Jza does as well. And York (yes, I know you are still reading this), you won't win. Wikipedia is so much bigger than your demented perception of what you think Wikipedia should be. Goodbye, and good riddance. You will be blocked. You will be reverted. And you will not be welcomed, in any form, with any username, and for any reason, unless Arbcom lifts your ban. Buh-bye. You are history, you are not welcome, and you will be beaten. Keeper ǀ 76 20:40, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
This link is useful for watching Yorkshire related articles. Yesterday he targeted some articles I'd been working on recently, but then turned his attentions to Jza again. Any idea how long the CU will take? Nev1 (talk) 20:41, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Moving

Now starts the stunningly dull questions. I've been asked to move All Hope Is Gone (album) to All Hope is Gone, over a redirect by Gary King (talk · contribs). It does not appear to be a controversial move (after I looked at a list of requested moves. Should it be asked on the article's talk page nonetheless by GaryKing? I've worked with Gary King at FAC, and he's quite competent. Don't do it for me! I won't learn it that way. --Moni3 (talk) 17:57, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Well my suggestion would be it looks ok, but the album in {Album) should probably be lower case. MBisanz talk 17:59, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Your comment

I will tell you straight out that I would never contribute here but for the fact that it wikipedia is used so widely. I have never seen such a group of hostile and narrow minded people, and there is something toxic in how being an editor affects some people, and expecially administrators. This is dangerously close to an online asylum.

First off, "Mystical 7", seven is a number. "Mystical Seven", seven is a collective noun. Entirely different concepts. That's it. There's nothing you or I can do to change it.

Second, I have never threatened anybody. I do not write things like "keep it up and you'll get blocked", "You're about to get it" or anything of the kind. I never have. Those are threats. Those other clowns posted garbage like that all the time. And it's not like I am scared of them, but I get ad hominem threats from them and argue content back. The fact that you and they were allowed to get off another round of baseless attacks before the conversation was shut off is a little annoying.

Today, these two rolled across the topic and start an edit war about a topic, I can guarantee, that they have no idea what they're talking about, and who, it is clear from their posts, they haven't read even what's been posted on these pages at wikipedia. I can't be responsible for their stupidity.

But they're not the issue. They're effectively the equivalent of static. And that's the problem. Everything here is static. It's silent, but the whole place is raging with static. It's an encyclopedia edited by the stupidest half-drunk louts in any bar.

And, let's say you're reasonable and intelligent and sensible. If so, I feel sorry for you, because all I did was glance at your user page, and it's clear that you've been spending way too many hours building sand castles. Unless you're a homebound invalid, and this is all you can do, then you're wasting your time. It's still August, go outside and see the moon rise or something.Thaïs Alexandrina (talk) 03:58, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

  • You are the first person, ever, to come to an online forum in order to tell someone that they are wasting their time on an online forum. Gratz. Protonk (talk) 04:00, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Also the first person ever to try to convince me that "7" is different than "seven". That's a first. I mean 1st. As for the rest of your rant, you are absolutely 100% correct in your assumptions about me. To use your words, I'm "reasonable, intelligent, sensible, sorry, homebound, invalid, half-drunk, hostile, narrow-minded and a little annoying". All very true. Except the half-drunk. I'm actually ½-drunk. Keeper ǀ 76 14:09, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
"That's a first. I mean 1st." I lol'd. GlassCobra 14:20, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

"the first person ever to try to convince me that `7` is different than `seven`", I can't speak to the literary quality of the circles you run in. In "The Magnificent Seven" it's clear that the number 7 is not considered magnificent, but the saeven members are, in "Ocean's Eleven", is the number 11 Ocean's? Or his eleven friends? In the Mystical 7, it IS the number being referred to, not some seven people. Thaïs Alexandrina (talk) 14:21, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

My circles have very good literary quality. Or very well, or whatever. Your circles, on the other hand, are just that, circles. You're running yourself into circles, and making me dizzy just trying to watch. If someone comes to Wikipedia and wants to learn about a secret society called Mystical Seven, there are equally likely to type either Mystical Seven or Mystical 7. Seven is Seven, is 7 is 7 is seven, in any literary circle. And since there are two groups, we have a disambiguation page so that whatever someone types, we can get them to the right page. Pray tell, where does Ocean's 11 redirect to? And why does it? (the answer is for the convenience of our readers, not for the convenience of the film(s) producer(s)...) Keeper ǀ 76 14:26, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, first, I am not trying to win any arguments. I am opposed to changing anything. I think that the people who don't know what they're talking about should rule the day. I am not arguing for any position, but since you seem to be asking, I am only trying to explain it.

Second, you miss the issue, which is probably why it seems so simple to you. There is a disambig page between Mystical Seven and Mystical Seven. (One an intercollegiate fraternity and one a class society.) That's fine. (But it means your whole argument about it being necessary to have a disambig page is off base, ---as well as all the similar arguments on the Administrators notebook page. There is already a disambig page.) However, there is also a redirect from Mystical 7, that should go to the intercollegiate society, where it is relevant, not Missouri, where it is not.

Third, this "Seven is Seven, is 7 is 7 is seven, in any literary circle." is simply untrue, a collective noun is not a numeral. Look up a collective noun, look up numeral. They are different, there is a reason why they are different, and no amount of ardent declaration that they are the same will or can change that.

Fourth, what is amazing is that people for whom the distinction is imperceptible are the ones who can enforce their opinion by shouting others down. This little episode had nothing to do with the content at all, it was all about force. Hooray for wikipedia. Thaïs Alexandrina (talk) 17:55, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Hooray for wikipedia! Keeper ǀ 76 18:00, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
And now, instead of another rant, please answer my question: Where does Ocean's 11 redirect to? (to save you the effort, it redirects to Ocean's Eleven, a disambiguation page. Mystical 7 redirects to a disambiguation page. This is finished. I'm not shouting, I'm a bit dumbfounded as to why you find this so so so important that you'll rant on and on, how many pages now? Not moving in circles so much as heptagons perhaps, this editor changes direction slightly every time someone provides a counterargument, but never really gets anywhere.
  • Thaïs Alexandrina began by asking what to do about a user not listening to consensus, then ignored the consensus that emerged.
  • Thaïs Alexandrina accused other editors of not responding to the issue, then ignored the responses which dealt with the issue.
  • Thaïs Alexandrina asserted that the other editors were not qualified to comment upon the issue, then ignored the advice offered by editors who are, in fact, more qualified than Thaïs Alexandrina to comment on Wikipedia policy and accepted practice.
  • Thaïs Alexandrina accused editors of threatening behaviour, then ignored the fact that the "threats" were withdrawn - and went on to make uncivil remarks and personal attacks directed at other editors (case in point: this thread).
  • Thaïs Alexandrina has asserted that Wikipedia is fundamentally flawed, but has ignored the policies whose purpose is to maintain Wikipedia's integrity.
Every response since this incident was first raised at WP:AN has been a good faith attempt to help resolve the issues - both the content issue of where Mystical 7 should redirect to and the conduct issue of how TA should behave - from editors who are more experienced and, it must be stressed again, acting in good faith. Every response has been ignored, attacked, criticised, denied, or a combination thereof.
Only three possibilities remain:-
  1. Thaïs Alexandrina is right and every other editor is wrong.
  2. Thaïs Alexandrina must accept the need to learn about how Wikipedia operates, and must read and follow such key policies as WP:No original research, WP:Civility and WP:Consensus.
  3. Thaïs Alexandrina is a tendentious and disruptive editor who should be blocked or banned from editing any related article. SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 18:27, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Stop making sense Sheffield. It means you're becoming part of the "Wiki-cabal", out to ruin perfectly good articles by demanding that they are referenced and neutral. Keeper ǀ 76 19:12, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, appreciate it. Normally I keep to myself on the University of Virginia side of the world, but some of the curious editing I cited in the RFCU was hitting some of the articles that I edit. I'm very interested to learn the outcome of this. My curiosity was piqued when Thais remarked that she "usually" lets fact tags sit for 3-4 months, even though her contributions indictate that her first edit here was a little more than a month ago. Exploding Boy (talk) 15:44, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

If time, could you take a look at

This discussion re: whether or not to keep/delete this article: Bruce McAbee? I noticed that you closed a similar debate and I wonder about whether it may be time to close this one and remove the templates? Thanks. (The article was created by Ecoleetage, who asked me and others to take a look and weigh in on this debate; doing so led me to edit the article.) --NYScholar (talk) 09:40, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for asking, NYScholar -- that was a nice surprise, truly! The discussion itself got pretty sour, with repeated character assassination that tried to divert attention from the basic weakness in arguing for deletion (see for yourself -- a textbook example of how not to debate!). Ecoleetage (talk) 16:16, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I've got it watched, I read it, the article, and the article talk. You've both done excellent work (I think I've even barnstarred both of you for unrelated article work, funny how the worlds collide sometimes) but I'm not nearly as comfortable as closing this one early as I was the other (unanimous and unrelated) debate. There is a lot of weak deletion argumentation going on, but there are also some valid concerns that need to work themselves out. It's only been opened for 2 days, I would recommend not "overparticipating" in it, it tends to make the closing admin's eyes glaze over, and it also tends to end up being one of the last one's closed in the backlog (the ten-foot pole effect). Keeper ǀ 76 18:27, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

FYI – a request if you have time

No drahmaz – this is one of those situations that makes me wish you did have email or (gasp) IRC enabled – but as someone who generally gets on well with both sides of it, would you be in a position to take another look at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Majorly and see if you can offer any constructive suggestions to either side? It's starting to escalate into back-and-forth sniping which (if it carries on) will end up with someone losing their temper and doing something foolish.

Seeing as I, along with KojiDude, Malleus and Friday, am apparently "one of the chronic opposers" – bizarrely, since of the seven (oops, I mean 7) currently open RFAs Koji, Friday & I oppose on precisely one RFA each – I somehow don't think Majorly would listen to us. (I'm aware that you've opposed on that RFA as well, but I don't think even the harshest critic could accuse you of being in some kind of "exclusionist cabal"). – iridescent 17:07, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I haven't opposed Jamie93's RFA, if that's the one you are referring to. I haven't participated in it at all. I did however, already post in two places on the RFC, agreeing with Friday, and also (most of) Giggy's. I like the guy, I agree with some parts of his RFA philosophy (support as default for example), and I've been guilty of a lot of the same huffiness that he's exuded there, but I consider it a bad habit curbed for the most part. He badgers opposers and calls them names, but doesn't like to be badgered (Dweller's RfB comes to mind - I think he even put up a picture of a badger when someone responded, rather politely I might add, to his oppose vote). And yet, when he responses, he retorts. He uses sarcasm (and we both know how well that works online), the ever-aggravating "jump all over a minor point or perceived slight and forget the forest exists", and other storm/teacup type behavior. In some ways, he's the posterboy of pointy behavior, in other ways, he is very good at being an admin (I've seen it, I can "diff" it, he can be excellent). I think the community is starting to be done with it though, and I hope he is seeing that. I'd hate to see him get desysopped, but ironically huffing around rather immaturely about how "teenagers, Zomg! are so, like, not immature, you, like Ageist person!!!111!1eleven!!", leaving in huffs, name changing with spite as primary motivation (at least on appearances), its all a bit ridiculous. You can point Majorly here. I don't think he watches this page, and even though I've added 4 tildes in 2 places on his RFC, I generally don't "do RFC", especially self-started ones. Majorly I suspect was expecting a lot of the criticism that has landed on him "per his request", some is spot on, some is off base, all is good faith "trying to help". Point him here, I don't need a bunch of people adding #-signs and tildes after my little paragraph here. Majorly - cool it. You are badgering people at RFA that you don't agree with. You are. I used to, I stopped. It hurts the very candidate that you are thinking you are helping. It is. I make no judgments about whether it should, or whether it shouldn't. It does.. Stop. Everything else goes away - your stress, your angst, your perceived "lack of maturity". I've seen you be very mature, I don't mean that condescendingly, but I've seen it. How 'bout closing up the RFC, it's divisive and time wasting, and per WP:CHIPSLAW. No one's gonna "win" anything there. Propose a "self-ban" on RFA discussions for a cooling off period of a few weeks/ month? Let this all move along, eh? Keeper ǀ 76 17:28, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
In fairness, Majorly did close the RFC but it was re-opened by Friday. – iridescent 18:18, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Didn't catch that. Hrm. What for? To keep on "telling him" what we think? I think he knows what we think. The RFC cannot come to any other conclusion other than "here's what we think", it has no teeth. If there is a SRS desysop request happening, that certainly isn't the right venue. Keeper ǀ 76 18:22, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I see know that it is reclosed. Probably best. Keeper ǀ 76 18:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Why Why Why Why Why? What's left to accomplish? Everyone not (American sense) pissed off enough yet, on both sides? If anyone would like to join me here, up on the fence, the view is terrific, I'll make popcorn. If you prefer to stay on one side of the fence or the other, in the mud, slinging arrows towards the other side, please watch out for us fencesitters who would rather not get their hands too dirty. Its hard to write an encyclopedia with dirty hands. Keeper ǀ 76 19:16, 29 August 2008 (UTC) and before anyone else decides to point out the irony, yes, I realize I just said we need to spend more time writing the encyclopedia, and less time drama-festing. Me, the talkpage king. Even I can see that the RFC will go no where other than a "fizzle out" as yesterday's news. Go to RFAr, get a resolution, get on with your lives. Or, just get on with your lives, one or the other. Keeper ǀ 76 19:19, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I really don't get much into politics, really I don't. I've proclaimed myself many different allegiances on-wiki (some real, some smokescreens). I will say though that McCain made a brilliant selection strategically, and that MN is better off keeping Tim P. - the fact that a mostly conservative, Republican candidate can not only get elected, but re-elected, in a historically "blue" state speaks volumes to his appeal - he still has a relatively strong approval rating. (Our last guy, the "body" was not known for his, um, conservativeness. Pawlenty's done good things. Keeper ǀ 76 14:51, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm sad. I thought they were going to pick mittens. Sarah Palin seems competent, straightforward and...well...kinda hot...So that makes it harder to make fun of the duo. But it pains me to know that the press will have another "ZOMG A woman and a black dude both want to be near the white house!" narrative to run with until novemeber. Journalists should be forbidden from conceit. At all times. Under pain of death. Protonk (talk) 15:15, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Like I said, brilliant move strategically. The journalists are gonna have a real hard time not falling madly in love with her "novelty". I'm actually a bit baffled by both candidates picking folks from states they were gonna win anyway. I thought Pawlenty would be taken, and some midwestern dem. Keeper ǀ 76 15:38, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm really hoping that MAYBE candidates are done picking VP's based on the notion of "regional balance". I think this is one of those common sense assumptions (pick a VP from state X and get a boost from that state and states like it) that never really was tested and probably isn't true. More likely (unfortunately) is the possibility that the dem's figured they had "too much history" for one nomination and the republicans figured the had "too little", so the dems picked a white guy and the republicans picked a lady. IMO, the VP should meet just a few criteria:
  1. No skeletons. Can't be caught with a dead girl or a live boy.
  2. VP and candidate can't obviously dislike each other (Kerry/Edwards, Dole/Kemp)
  3. VP should probably be able to campaign better than a limp noodle (E.g. NOT Liebermann, Gore, Bush Sr.,)
  4. Don't pick your VP for a stupid reason
  5. Don't pick a VP twice
Protonk (talk) 15:57, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

<---LOL, great list, you're absolutely right. I didn't say I wanted them to pick geographically, just that I thought they would. Heh. Also, I learned two things about Sargent Shriver. One, I didn't realize he was VP twice (and I think you're wrong, I think he was in the primaries as prez candidate once, but only VP cand. once). Also, I didn't know he was still alive. (just checked his article lead to see when/how he died, being a "kennedy" and all...) Keeper ǀ 76 16:07, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

From experience, it can be quite hard holding discussions with IPs, as so many tend to drift on and off one's watchlist, you sometimes miss the "legitimate" posts amongst the "fuck you"s from reverted vandals. I'm back for help please...

I am getting tired of this fight with editors on the Book of Mormon page and I would like some input. I think it's actually in a few editors interests in keeping this page down i.e. they want it to look bad. I don't know, but there have been many editors, including a very respected one - COGDEN (I think he's an admin) who have been mercilessly deleted and reverted just to keep the same poor lede. I know it's a controversial topic but that gives no right to constant reversions of good faith editors. So in short could you poke in your head and possibly help this out? My latest battle is to reinsert a few things of COGDEN's and they are in no way controversial POV or otherwise, but we fight just because we can I suppose sometimes, but if you look you will see a pattern of systematic reversions by 2 or 3 editors there. Any help is helpful. Twunchy (talk) 06:35, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Keeper/TPS'ers,

I've been busy reverting User talk:24.93.236.98's various edits to Buffy/Angel character bios. S/He has been adding redundant categories (e.g., undead and immortal to vampires), OR and synthesis, and categories that other editors have seen fit to revert as well. Despite multiple rounds of warnings and reversions over 2 days, this editor keeps adding this same categorycruft in. even now, s/he continues to edit this after a final warning.

So where do I take this? AN? Jclemens (talk) 00:00, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Seriously, the first World Series I ever attended was the Dodgers vs. Twin in '65. My dad was born in Brooklyn, so you can suspect who his team is. I didn't care so much. But I had a Zoilo (sorry) Versailles baseball card, so I thought he was the best. Any admin can block themselves. They won't be able to edit, but they'll still be able to use administrator tools (and later unblock themselves, if they wish). That's why blocking an admin who is abusing his/her tools is not a real solution. 1)They can unblock themselves. 2)They can go on abusing the tools until a steward comes along to remove them. Enigma message 17:05, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
And as an example, of the genius levels of thinking required to block, and unblock yourself, see this fine example.  :-) And the Twins will win. If they make it to the series, they'll have homefield advantage, and they'll win in 7. They haven't lost a home field world series game since the one you went to, OM. 11-1 alltime. In their 3 series, they've all gone seven games, the home team has always won the home game (LA, St. Louis, and Atlanta all wone their 3 homegames). Only the Dodgers were able to win, in game seven, in Minnesota. Go Twins! Keeper ǀ 76 17:14, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

What can I do now?

Hi, I posted 4 articles that got deleted on the spot: Washington Interscholastic Nutrition Forum, Bone Health, Better Breakfast, Recovery Drinks. All are meant to be used as ways to make information about these subjects available, while linking them back to already existing wiki articles (i.e. Breakfast, Nutrition, Osteoporosis). I still want to try to use Wikipedia to do that, and I understand that I shouldn't use this as an advertising channel, but I'm not sure how to provide the resources available in the information that I can place on an article page, without getting deleted again. I read through all the articles on getting started and what not and they aren't very helpful to my situation. Any advice would be helpful... Thanks, Delaunay08 (talk) 20:44, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey yo. One more fucking day, eh? Can't wait. But before we get to that, I need some guidance. My home girl is on a Wiki-break and a lot of the folks who troll the WP:HelpDesk are cocksuckers. Any way, I uploaded this pic and would like to know if the rationale used is okay? The guy is dead and he probably has three pictures in existance. I have seen this particular photo used on a biography written about him. I dunno where it came from, who took it or what year it was taken, but it's the best photo I can find. Can I use this for his article? I know there are a lot of non-cocksuckers who troll your talk page, so if anyone out there can help me... please hit up my talk page. Deletion of article "Good Oil"

I had just returned from a quick Google search where I'd found an article about the product on the UK Times Online site, [11], which I felt sufficiently established notability, when I'd found the page deleted. Do you agree with me or do you disagree and/or consider this issue closed? Have a nice day! Miquonranger03 (talk) 16:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC) :D

replied on your talk mate Keeper ǀ 76 19:45, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! That is the problem with this product, though. That is the actual name of the product, and it is so incredibly vague that it's almost a bad thing for there to be a Wikipedia article on it. Miquonranger03 (talk) 20:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
You know, now that I look at some Google and Google News queries, that Times article is really the only notable source there seems to exist. Most if not all of the records on the web for this product seem to be from housewives on Usenet and the like. You can delete it, I don't think that it passes the N-test after all. Miquonranger03 (talk) 21:31, 3 September 2008 (UTC) :D
Of course! Feel free to vent whenever. That's Wikipedia for you, I suppose..."you can please some of them some of the time, but you can't please all of them all of the time!" :D Miquonranger03 (talk) 21:39, 3 September 2008 (UTC) (I hope my smilies, which are simply meant to brighten the reader's day a bit, don't waste too much time by tripping vandal filters and such)

Hey 2

Hey, about your message on Ecoleetage's talk page, sorry if you found it spiteful but to be honest I tried to be blunt but concise, and civil. I wished him good luck for the future and that I may support in future, but it was shortly followed by an email consisting of insults and childish behaviour. I stick by my comment about his incivility, although I appreciate others don't have the same view. Hope all is well, happy editing! —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 17:46, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Reason #4,684 why I don't "do email": If someone blasts me on email, I'll likely blast them back. Next time, though Cyclone, use the same medium. Blast him back on his email, not his talkpage - it looked spiteful. How was I to know that he sent you a "childish" email? And how exactly does your rather "childish" comments on his talkpage (and not his email), reflect on you? Just food for thought, I'm over it. Happy editing to you as well :-) Keeper ǀ 76 19:49, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Accusations against Administrators

Since you're around

Hey Keep,

Since you offered to do "crap" for me, I'm looking for a second opinion (and since this talk page is watched by more people than WP:AN, if you've left, maybe a lurker could do it). I wonder if you'd take 5 minutes and review Special:Contributions/Techman224 (focusing on the user talk pages), and the (rapidly deleted) warning messages on User talk:Techman224. He wasn't getting the message, so I left a brusque warning, and he quit editing right after. I think it was called for, due to his ignoring previous similar requests, but wonder if I came off too harsh (I think he's probably doing this in good faith, just not listening to feedback). I'm feeling a little grumpy today, I've noticed my recent blocks are all longer than my average, and I'm wondering if I'm too grumpy or not. --barneca (talk) 22:59, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm offline until at least Friday, for my own sanity. Anyone else need something to do? TCari? Irid? J.Del? Other admins? Keeper ǀ 76 23:06, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Since this is the closest thing we have to a town hall, I thought I would post this here. I have decided that the life of an admin is not for me, and I closed my RfA. The discussion became nasty, stupid and venal. But that is what RfAs are all about, no? Nor, for that matter, is Wikipedia the right place for me. At least not for the moment. I am finding it to be a disruptive, sour and unrewarding experience. Thus, I am taking time off -- maybe for a short spell, maybe for the long haul. I don't know if I will be back, but if I am, I'll drop in to say Hello. Keeper, you've been pleasant and delightful. To my friends here, thanks for the fun. And as Jackie Gleason used to say: And away we go..... Ecoleetage (talk) 02:52, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Take it easy, Eco. If it's any consolation, adminship isn't that great anyway. People post stuff like this and you just have to sit there and think...now which (and whose) bowl of cheerios did I piss in to deserve that?xeno (talk) 02:58, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Update from Eco Keeper, since you are my only TPS, I wanted to come here and share a message my pal Mike sent me. I told him about my RfA and he read it. As an uninvolved outsider, this was his response:
"Yeah, I read the back and forth today. I got about half-way through before I started wondering "why the hell is he putting himself through this?" Then two-thirds of the way, I saw the a******* you were up against. What a bunch of pretentious, self-important lunatics. Yes, Wikipedia is an important tool. So friggin' what? Are they curing cancer? No. Do you know how many typos I found on 'Cancer'? Oy."
First laugh I had all week. (Someone go over and fix Cancer, okay?} Now it is back to the WikiBreak -- doing a movie audition on Friday, wish me luck. Ecoleetage (talk) 23:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
PS I don't endorse Mike's observation, I just wanted you to see what those in the non-Wiki world think when they peek in here. Ecoleetage (talk) 00:06, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
He's your pal, hardly uninvolved. I think I saw Keeper say elsewhere today though that RfA sucks the life out of editors. Don't let it suck the life out of you. Who cares what a bunch of malcontents who hang around what must be the most depressing forum on wikipedia think about anything? --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 00:07, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Agree. Good luck with your movie audition. Let me know if you pass WP:N, I'll gladly write up an article about you :-) And your friend "Mike" is right. Only on Wikipedia, by the way, does "Someone go over and fix cancer" refer to adding a comma here and there. What a great sentence! Miss you Eco, be well and come back soon.  :-) Keeper ǀ 76 19:49, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I took a quick look at the standings. The Twins have no shot at the Wild Card (unless they get really hot, which they really are not right now), so they have to win the AL Central. They have a reasonable schedule, but that final weekend homestand would be something to see. Especially against the White Sox. Now, setting aside the fact that you have no clue about sports, and noting the the above thread you have some silly interest in the NFL, and we know how crappy the Vikings are, I'm not sure your trust in the Twins is all that reasonable. Their pitching isn't deep enough for the playoffs, and their hitting seems to rely upon a lot of hitting with runners in scoring position (which I believe is a random probability event, because statistically, good hitters hit about the same with batters on base as they do when there are none on, and bad hitters do the same--in other words, the Twins are lucky, but statistics eventually even out). I'm sure you're a loyal fan, but your team has some work to do. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 13:57, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

The painful irony is that the are "not hot" right now because they are on their longest road trip in the last 40 years, courtesy of our Republican friends + their new BFF Joe. As for your sentence: I'm not sure your trust in the Twins is all that reasonable, who the hell ever decided that supporting a team is supposed to be reasonable? Fan is short for fanatic, remember? Just watch, just wait. The Twins in 87 had the lowest W-L for a WS champ (at the time). If they're in, they win. The WhiteSox will crumble, the Yanks are out, the RedSox will get the wildcard. Angels v RedSox, Twins V Rays. Calling it. As RedSox V Twins, then Dodgers V Twins (yes, I said Dodgers). Keeper ǀ 76 15:50, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Let's go Yan-kees! TravellingCari 02:28, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm not going to ask wtf is going on with this page today, but Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist, making the Twins the favorites to win the AL Central. Quentin was the key to that lineup and the MVP of the team. Enigma message 20:03, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
