A new start

Dr Lang, I have moved the old contents of your talk page to /Archive, removed the mainspace informational boxes from your user page and deleted the "proposed article" page, since the consensus at the noticeboard discussion is that it represents an end-run around our deletion policy - please see WP:CSD#G4.

I have taken these actions because the disputes over your trying to create an autobiographical article, along with various disputes resulting from your point of view in respect of various issues which are matters of long-standing dispute , have resulted in a situation where it's going to be quite hard for you to contribute without continued strife.

So, by making your user page more obviously a user page, and by archiving past disputes while leaving them visible for transparency, I am trying to help you to make what might be considered a fresh start. Wikipedia is always looking for editors who can help to add good quality, neutral content with citations from reliable independent sources. I see that you are a physician and that you are committed to doing work for the public good. This should be a good fit for Wikipedia, provided you can remember to check your baggage at the door and respect the opinions of others with whom you might have philosophical differences.

I would like to suggest to you that you look to edit in areas where you have professional expertise and uncontroversial opinions - I am surer there are many articles around the area of primary care that could do with the kind of care you lavished on your proposed article, and there may be many important figures from the history of the mainstream medical bodies whose articles could do with expansion.

Thank you again for your effort. I am very reluctant to edit this into mainspace in its current form. There is too much unreferenced material. Unlike an autobiography, Wikipedia requires references. I understand, and I thank you for your effort and input. You're welcome to edit it down to whatever is better. I've added additional info knowing that it would be edited. I still intend to expand it when I find more references. The autobiogarphical excess serves as a personal template for some other work I'm doing. It's helping to jog my recollection of the chronology of distant life events. One thing I'm still looking for is ref. to when I walked out on strike with other employees for higher wages from the Dallas Morning News when I was 15 years old (I was working there underage illegally). Dr. Lang, I thought the note I left and the tone of the discussion on the admin board was sufficiently clear. The article you propose is not compliant with our sourcing and notability policies, and to continue to agitate for an essentially autobiographical article is unlikely to play well with the community. People are being very careful to be polite, but the answer is unambiguous. I have suggested ways in which you can exercise your desire to help Wikipedia, and which will be less controversial. People have been polite and kind and tried not to bite you, and as a result you may be misreading the signals. The signals are that this article is not going to fly. Thanks for your note. I did not add any commentary to that article, but in good-faith I did add links within the 'See Also' paragraph of Infanticide to the related articles on Massacre of the Innocents and Abortion. I did not notice any mention or clarification of the two links elsewhere in the article, other than the image of the Massacre of the Innocents fresco at the article's introduction. In a recent edit to the page Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. You are correct about the spelling, and your point is well made and appreciated. However, I only added a "Z" in the spelling of a redirect for the sake of American users. There is also a link established to the article from the "SCO" acronym disambiguation page. The infobox in this article also uses the "organization" spelling, and I noticed that some other contributor attempted to change the spelling in different areas of the article, but I agree with you that it should stand as it is. Hello, Dr. B. R. Lang. Your user-page User:Dr. B. R. Lang appears not to be in compliance with the WP:UP guideline since it contains excessive amount of personal information. WP:UP#NOT explicitly lists the following as an example of inappropriate userpage content: "3. Excessive personal information (more than a couple of pages) unrelated to Wikipedia". Your userpage is well above that in length and all of the info there is about your personal information rather than about your Wikipedia contributions. Please bring your userpage in compliance with WP:UP. While Wikipedia users are given fairly wide lattitude in managing their userpages, in unambiguous cases of noncompliance with WP:UP a user-page may eventually be deleted. Please be advised that wikipedia user pages are just an another tool to serve wikipedia. By no means wikipedia is a web hosting service for your personal webpage. It may reasonably include various personal information which may help other editors understand your editing preferences end expertise, and thus make cooperation easier. But what I see in your user page in my opinion fails to comply with the guidelines from Wikipedia:User page.

  • I second this. We have discussed this in detail, Dr Lang, and you have been told that Wikipedia is not a free web host or a vehicle for self-promotion. Dr. Lang,

I am presently working on Air Force covert operations in Laos here in Wikipedia. I once worked for the air attache's office as an intel specialist at about the same time you were in Laos.

I wish to clear up some details before I proceed, as I do not wish to unnecessarily edit or distort your work. Also, I am seeking internal consistency between Wikipedia articles.

It was my understanding that Palace Dog was a USAF umbrella operation that included Project 404 and Raven FACs. The former was numbered so that it would appear to be a routine supply operation; the latter was call-signed to appear an operation within South Vietnam.

In reading the Wikipedia article you wrote on Project 404, you made it appear an army operation. Security conditions being what they were in Laos, Project 404 may have been multi-service and not strictly Air Force run. However, I wonder what authority you can quote for it's being at least partially Army-run?

Hi George. Thanks for your interest, and for your note. Project 404 was an operation under U.S. Ambassador Sullivan which included both Army and Air Force military attaches. I was an assistant Army Attache (ARMA)and I provided communications liason assistance to both the ARMA & Air Force attache (AIRA) working out of Long Tieng, Laos (LS-20A). Dr. B. R. His family is still trying to arrange his funeral, etc. His comrades in the Special Forces community are the primary source, and so far we know that Pastor Bill Rimondi (mentioned on Bill Queen's page draft) is unable to attend his funeral. Dr. B. R. Lang, I see that you've been putting more and more information into the description of File:Gerald Hamilton 2008.jpg. I appreciate the effort that you're putting in, and am sympathetic to the emotions involved, considering that Mr. Hamilton just recently passed away. I mean no disrespect, but this really isn't what Wikipedia is for, especially because the image is not being used in any articles, and no sources are being provided to allow verification of the information. It is interesting that you perceived emotions involved in the drafting of the info text with that photo. I usually think of my writing as being overly technical or dull. I'm doing this as a hobby, and learning as I go. Right now my time is filled with obligations in Dallas and Nashville. My computer, hard drive info, and other office equipment in Nashville were all recently misappropriated, so the infomation I've attached to that photo has been added piece-meal to the photo from different locations in Texas and Tennessee. You are most welcome. As for the emotion I perceived, it wasn't so much because of the writing, which is in the proper tone. Instead, I noticed that you had been creating several articles about veterans, and especially when writing about a veteran who recently died, this often (not always) indicates an emotional commitment, and a desire to memorialize. It's a worthy goal, though sometimes Wikipedia is not the best place to achieve it. BTW, as regards the pages that were deleted, if you would like me to retrieve the deleted information and send it to you so you can put it on wikia, I would be happy to help with this. About this edit, may I suggest that the paragraph's "topic" sentence be moved back to the start? It seems that the reader would not know just why that paragraph is in that article until after reading most of the paragraph. Only after reading facts about recent events related to same-sex marriage, which at first seem not relevant to the Census, does the reader find an explanation that the Census won't count same-sex marriages. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
