I noticed your comments at Talk:John T. Casteen III and I wanted to let you know that I have changed that page from a redirect to an article. --TommyBoy (talk) 04:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
No problem, I came across that page because it was a redirect to the University of Virginia, apparently created because the original creator of the article only wrote that he was the President of the University of Virginia and posted a link to his biography of the University of Virginia website. In this case, I believed that the existing information should have been expanded upon rather than simply relegating the page to redirect status. --TommyBoy (talk) 14:49, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
College of Arts and Sciences
[edit]Heya babe. I took some of your suggestions to heart regarding the CLAS page, however I'm finding it near impossible to find anything regarding the history of the CLAS. If you see any links or books which could help out, throw them my way. I would love to see that article find its potential. I did go ahead and add a smattering of notable alumni from the CLAS website. Its just so hard to get information to distinguish between the University and teh CLAS itself. Anyway, thanks for leaving the feedback, and apologies for not getting back to you earlier. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 11:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Paul Goodloe McIntire
[edit]Thanks for your additions to (well, really, writing of) the McIntire article, Tim. I can see that it won't be a stub much longer. :) Eventually I'd like to have maybe a half dozen to a dozen sorely-needed Charlottesville Wikipedia entries started (like this one), and then point to them on cvillenews.com and encourage people to get to work on them. It would be interesting to see what would come of having regular folks -- that is, non-Wikipedians -- given an entré to contribute to entries on topics of local importance.--WaldoJ (talk) 21:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I knew there was something fishy going on, but lacked the energy or the technical means to investigate it.
I really wouldn't have minded the sockpuppetry, as long as the socks' edits were productive and the sockmaster's disposition collegial, but this guy is one belligerent and uncooperative (impolite epithet redacted). The Yellow Journal
[edit]You are invited to add SOURCED information to a new article, The Yellow Journal. StopTheSanity (talk) 14:14, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for these great contributions. I have moved your fantastic NYTimes quote to the top section of the article to improve readability and flow. A few questions now arise: Have we listed two different mottos? Also, what was the publishing schedule from 1912-1920, if it was annually from '20-'35? Where can we find further verifiable WP:RS information on the '90s era edition? StopTheSanity (talk) 19:12, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- The Dabney source I linked suggests that it appeared for a few years after 1912 (by deduction, at least in 1912 and 1913) but is not specific regarding the specific years of publication. Virgo may help there. I fear verifiable information that hews strictly to WP:RS will be challenging to find, particularly if we rule out other college media as a source. We may be able to find information about funding/defunding the YJ in the Cavalier Daily for instance. Other information may require a trip to Charlottesville. -Tjarrett (talk) 19:31, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Z Society
[edit]Despite Bruce's history, I would check the 1890's Corks & Curls to see what they called themselves when they published their member lists. I don't think it is Zeta. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.57.117.107 (talk) 05:46, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting point. I don't have access to the 1890s C&C, but I do see in some references that precede Bruce a few references to the Z Society, and none to the Zeta. Probably a good idea to put a little nuance in the article. -Tjarrett (talk) 00:20, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Also, I'm pretty sure that I've seen advertisements and announcements in the Cavalier Daily for the "Z Society Distinguished Faculty Award," not the "Z Society Award for professors." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.57.117.107 (talk) 05:49, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- Good catch. We call it by its full name ("Distinguished Faculty Award") in the lede but not in the body. I made that correction as well. -Tjarrett (talk) 16:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Saw your recent activity on the Z page. Off the top of my head, just wanted to point out that other notable members include Shawn Moore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Moore), named as the top quarterback in UVa football history (http://www.uvamagazine.org/sports/article/virginias_top_5_quarterbacks/); Bill Dudley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Dudley), an NFL Hall-of-Famer for whom the Z Society Dudley Award (given to the top football player in his first year of play) is named; Robert Gooch, former University professor and dean; T. Munford Boyd, former University law professor; and Herb Bryant, inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and for whom Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium is named (http://www.thesabre.com/football/stadium/). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.154.22 (talk) 20:43, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'd love to list some of these folks, but haven't found a source yet that authenticates them as members. Will keep looking. -Tjarrett (talk) 01:08, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
- All except Moore are probably listed in various Corks & Curls, which you can get in Alderman. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.57.117.107 (talk) 15:41, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Veracode_logo.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Veracode_logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 21:37, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Virginia Gentlemen
[edit]You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
A tag has been placed on Virginia Gentlemen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. TM 18:58, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

RE: The Lawn
[edit]Don't remember where I mentioned referencing issues. Bbut as for the slave, I was under the impression that there was only one slave owned by the university (and only in the country?), the others were probably owned by individuals instead of the school (Jefferson, etc). There was some room on the lawn he stayed in, probably a basement if I recall correctly. I was just looking for mention of this on the artciel itself.(Lihaas (talk) 00:11, 21 January 2014 (UTC)).
- Thanks. It seems there were more slaves owned by the University than just the one. From a recent article in the UVA Alumni Magazine:
The University owned outright a handful of slaves. Jefferson himself, in his role as a member of the Board of Visitors, agreed to purchase a slave for $125 in January 1819. By 1830, the University owned four slaves. In 1832, the University purchased a slave named Lewis Commodore for $580, Henry Martin's predecessor as bell ringer. At any given time, however, there were as many as 100 or more slaves working on Grounds. (Wolfe, Brendan (Spring 2013). "Unearthing Slavery at the University of Virginia". Retrieved 2014-01-22.
{{cite journal}}
: Cite journal requires|journal=
(help))
- And while there is no mention of slaves living in the student rooms on the lawn, they appear to have lived in the "Pavilion and Hotel cellars" and in other outbuildings and additions to the buildings. These were primarily to house slaves belonging to the professors, as students weren't permitted to bring their own slaves to school. (Schulman, Gayle M. (May 2003). "Slaves at the University of Virginia" (PDF). Retrieved 2014-01-21.) Schulman calls Lewis Commodore "the only slave the University ever owned," but based on more current research this seems incorrect.
- Long story short: there's certainly enough research to justify some mention of slavery in the article, if not a broader article on slavery at the University in general. I'll see what we can do. In the meantime, I'm removing the tag for referencing issues and leaving the tag for expansion. -Tjarrett (talk) 13:40, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Which issue of our mag?Ah, that link.- btw- working on ground doesn't mean owned though
- never said student rooms...other buildings and basements more likely
- no probs
- btw you stayed on the lawn?Lihaas (talk) 07:05, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
- You're right regarding working on grounds ≠ owning. However, there is documentary evidence in a few cases, including Lewis Commodore, that the University did on rare occasions purchase slaves directly. Most of the slaves on Grounds either belonged to the professors or were hired by the University from their owners.
- Yes, I was a resident of 3 West Lawn in 1993-1994.
- I've moved my changes into the main The Lawn article. If you'd like to take a look and offer additional suggestions for improvement I'd be appreciative. -Tjarrett (talk) 14:28, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

citation
[edit]i have a citation from subject itself. If that is not a good enough citation, from the subject the article is written about, perhaps you can tell me what is a good citation. Otherwise, this is an attack to remove damaging material to the subject. This is a fact, and the subject itself has acknowledged this story is fact. To delete this, is proof of wikipedia allowing a certain agenda to remove potentially harmful facts about a subject they do not agree with — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.188.167.150 (talk) 18:21, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Tjarrett. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Veracode, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Kharkiv07 (T) 15:32, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, User:Kharkiv07. I did in fact declare COI and request feedback on the first version of the article back in March 1, 2010, as was the process at that point. Feedback was provided and incorporated into the article. Now that the process with the Request Edit template is available I will use it going forward. -Tjarrett (talk) 18:47, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your efforts thus far, I'll keep an eye out for your requests and try to act on them as soon as I can. Cheers! Kharkiv07 (T) 18:50, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 9
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ghost Song (album), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sting. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:12, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
