Authour/author

Re this edit: the British spelling of author is author. "Authour" is obsolete in all dialects. :) Frickeg (talk) 00:05, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

This has been discussed at Wikipedia:Help desk why it was mistaken to add it there. Although I disagree that it's obsolete, since it's the only way I've ever seen it spelt in the UK. Joseph2302 (talk) 00:10, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
I find that very odd indeed. I'm Australian, not British, but not only have I never, ever seen the spelling "authour" before (and we get almost all of our books/media unfiltered from country of origin), I have been unable to find a single reliable source online that doesn't call it either obsolete or downright incorrect. I would be interested to hear if you have been able to find any, or if you have text sources that back it up as a contemporary accepted spelling. Frickeg (talk) 08:56, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Can't find any reliable sources that use it, including the (small amount) of books I own. However, authour was how it was spelt at my school, and I'm surprised to realise that it appears no-one uses it. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:06, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Might be one of those regional oddities - I remember talking to a fellow Australian who had always spelled the colour "gray", despite this spelling being almost unknown here. Out of interest, I looked it up in the OED, which says that "authour" has been obsolete since about 1700! Possibly your school had a very particular house style. :) Frickeg (talk) 09:11, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Wow, that's weird. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:32, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Pearl S Buck page - Material Omissions

Being discussed at the talkpage/not sure how I got involved in this anyway

The Pearl S Buck page that I have unsuccessfully tried to add real, verifiable information to, information that pertains to information already provided on that page, that page (Pearl S Buck) contains very significant material omissions. That may be why it reads more like a marketing puff piece than a periodical reference. We are especially concerned that several weeks after we had posted information regarding Pearl S Buck Welcome House adoption agency act of ''trafficking/human traffickingItalic text (originally, instead of the word 'trafficked', although that is exactly what occurred, we used the terms 'transited' and 'brokered') that page has deleted those well substantiated references and now instead accuses a deceased dance instructor of New York City's Arthur Murray School with the crime of human trafficking, the trafficking of Canada Scoops victims to USA. Why does Wikipedia allow that unsubstantiated allegation but not the well evidenced, documented information on the same topic that we provide but that shows Pearl S Buck herself and her Welcome House adoption agency are responsible? WV NYC (talk) 14:00, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

For the same reason that @Zero0000: mentioned a week ago- ""201100009" is not an archive file number. If you add this material again without satisfying the requirements I have outlined, I will block you from editing."- the only source you added was to a file number that doesn't appear to exist. Yet you removed lots of content sourced with proper reliable sources, see difference, your reversion, and other version. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:11, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
It is possible that 201100009 is an sequence number for victim testimonies at the TNC. My point was that it is definitely not an Archives of Canada file number, which would have to contain enough information to uniquely identify among the millions of files held. Zerotalk 14:35, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

AsOne Creation Page

Hello,

I'm writing regarding the denial of gospel music duo AsOne as listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:AsOne#AsOne .

According to your note, they were declined because their debut album has not been released yet. However, I do feel they're notable enough to have a wikipedia page. Maybe you can provide suggestions on ways I can update their Wiki page to ensure it is published.

They've written songs for singers Usher, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson and more. Also, they're on a major label (Capitol Records). Also, they have a song "Hero," that is being played in syndication on national radio stations. They've also performed at Disney functions.

Any help is greatly appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.240.69.116 (talk) 17:27, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello

Hi! do you know how to make all tabels beside eachother at this not the new one under them ? the same as this ? thank you :) . Adnan (talk) 03:41, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Fixed @Adnan n2: I think I've fixed it. The correct way to end one table and start another seems to be to add the code:
|}
|valign="top" width=0%|
{| class="wikitable",

but this had the code;

|}
|}
{|
|valign="top" width=0%|
{| class="wikitable"

- I think some the extra |} and {| must have been stopping it from working. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:14, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Communist Party of Britain

Moved

Hello Joseph

Thank you for deleting the Communist Party (UK) redirect so that I can move Communist Party of Britain to Communist Party (UK)

However when I now try to move Communist Party of Britain to Communist Party (UK) I get a message saying

"You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reason: The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid."

Please can you advise, so that I can move this page to the correct page name.

Thank you

MartinGarageland66 (talk) 12:19, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Garageland66:/Martin,
I can't delete the redirect Communist Party (UK), it needs an admin to do it, and I'm not an admin. I've put it up for speedy deletion, which notifies admins that I want it deleted. Once an admin has deleted the redirect, then anyone can move the page to Communist Party (UK). Joseph2302 (talk) 12:43, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

@Garageland66: Admin has fixed it, the page is now at Communist Party (UK). Joseph2302 (talk) 16:35, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

You reverted to a revision earlier than mine, which was, according to you, the "unspammed version." Isn't that implying that I spammed the page? I clearly did not. I apologize for the confusion if there is any. --WikiWinters (talk) 14:29, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

@WikiWinters: My apologies, it wasn't your edits I was removing, it was most User:ADDgrammar's edits that I was trying to get rid of- my edit summary should have been clearer. Seems ADDgrammar was part of a sockpuppet farm of PR people, see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Factsonlyplease39, and I was trying to clear up some of their mess. Your edits [3] and [4] were both helpful, and definitely not spam. Apologies for the confusion. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:38, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

My Wikipedia Input

While I understand some of your points on the input I've entered into wikipedia I'm appalled at the implication that I'm a vandal. That is far from the case. On the issue of a football "honour", it is merely a prize of winning a competition and/or receiving a medal for one and also individual prizes like "player of the year". Football league play-offs in Scotland and England and even if the winners are only surviving relegation, they are still a competition. I'm not going to re-enter the information you have deleted but I would appreciate a little respect.— Preceding unsigned comment added by JOESPICE (talkcontribs)

Really, because you've been warned 7 times in the last year, including 4 times in the last 2 months, not to add unsourced content, yet you did it at Graham Dorrans. And as recently as 2.5 days ago, you were told by @GiantSnowman: that playoffs weren't an honour, yet you continued to add them. Joseph2302 (talk) 00:15, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

03:16:08, 4 June 2015 review of submission by Mokawn

I have written an article that I think it could be noticed by Wikipedia page because it is one of the success issues in Asia on the issues of construction. I would like to develop on the article that I summit. However I do not know how to develop and what to develop. Please help me and I would like to request to review the article again. Moreover please help me to develop on the referenceItalic text. I find the information on the website because when I review other article they also put a source from website. But when I summit on the article it suggest to find source on newspaper and others. Could you please highlight and help me more on reference? Thank you so much for your help and consider. momo 03:16, 4 June 2015 (UTC) momo 03:16, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

I added some references to the bottom of the draft. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:29, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Joseph2302-

Thanks for the welcome. Still learning, and made my first mistake. So I'd appreciate your help in resolving an issue I found. Recently, a new user (GPMIP) made a large contribution to the Merger integration article. It appeared suspect, and really didn't relate to merger integrations, and was more appropriate for Mergers & acquisitions. When I viewed some of my M&A materials, I noticed it's a direct copyright violation, word for word, from pages 7&8 of Mergers & Acquisitions Integration Handbook (ISBN 978-1-118-00437-1). There are no publically available sources to prove this.

How should I handle this? Do I just undo the changes and include the "db-copyvio" language, or is there another way to take down the copy written materials. I can send you a PDF to prove the violation, but I don't feel comfortable posting the pages, in case I am then in violation of the copyright.

I've appreciate your help & guidance.

Jperks7 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jperks7 (talkcontribs) 13:23, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

@Jperks7: If it's a copyright violation, then it should definitely be removed. I assume you mean this addition? Joseph2302 (talk) 13:25, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
I've removed it, and warned the user about copyrighted materials. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:30, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi- You just left me a note I am actual the author of the referenced book but could not figure out how to footnote myself and ran out of time yesterday. My name is scott c. whitaker and I am the author of the Mergers & Acquisitions Handbook, John Wiley & Sons, July 2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by GPMIP (talkcontribs) 13:42, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Even if you're the owner of the text, the text doesn't have a suitable copyright license to be used on Wikipedia. To release text for Wikipedia, you have to donate it to Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, however this would also place the text into public domain, so anyone would be allowed to copy and use it- I would advise against this. Instead, writing it in your own words (by which I mean words different from the handbook) is easier and better.
Although a second issue is whether that text would be better at Merger integration or Mergers & acquisitions, which you would need to discuss at the article talkpages. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:10, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

the conflict of interest with my posts

Don't linkspam

Hi !!! i wasn't sure of how to reply on the previous thread. i'm writing primarily to apologize to the 70 odd posts to the cricketers pages. i am trying to post the company who manage cricketers across India and was advised that since Wiki is the place people search for info, it would be best if i sign up and start there! i now know how wrong it was of me to do this. i have read the COI now and have realized that i shouldn't have done the same. i am still learning the ropes when it comes to what to do on digital/social media platforms and what not. i realize this incident was one of the don'ts. I thank you for sending me the warning this early, else i would never have known why the posts were getting deleted and the count would have surely gone from 70 to 90 or 100. Also, is there a way i can reach out to you via mail so that i can get to know the do's and don'ts of going digital and getting my stuff right? it would surely help a great deal. looking forward to hearing from you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tejasraomys (talkcontribs) 14:08, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

But most Wikipedians don't care who a cricketer's manager is- unless it's covered in reliable sources (e.g. newspaper articles), then it's not notable enough for Wikipedia. Most of the Wikipedia comes from content on ESPN Cricinfo, Cricket World, and newspapers (for Indian cricketers, a lot comes from Times of India and Hindu Times)- content from primary sources about companies isn't encyclopedic material. With respect, if you want people to know which players you manage, then you should use your website and their personal websites, not Wikipedia, which is an encyclopedia, not a vehicle for advertising, see WP:NOTADVERTISING. Hey joseph maybe you want to reconsider this. we have a lot of work and just rollbacking all those edits would be amazing. i think your !vote there stopped the conversation and in my view it would have been great (and a huge burden off us) to get rid of them at a high level. i thought i left you a note like this before but i can't find it, if i did... Jytdog (talk) 12:36, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

@Jytdog: With respect, I've noticed that quite a lot of the articles are about notable things, that just need a bit of tidying up. Almost all the CEOs are notable enough, and a lot of them had been cleaned up previously anyway, the baseball players are all notable, and some of the other ones are too. Whilst the quickest way would be to delete everything, I believe that they have created at least 20-30 (probably more) articles that are definitely good enough for Wikipedia, and lots of the rest are just about good enough. Therefore, I think we should only be deleting the rubbish ones. I've put 15ish up for AfD, and a few others have PRODs, but although I disagree with how these articles were created, the end product of them is actually beneficial and encyclopedic IMO. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:27, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
Do you have a sense of how many they created that need going through? Jytdog (talk) 15:28, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
yes, it's around 150- some of them created 25-30 articles, but quite a few only created 2 or 3. If a decent number of them can be kept, then I'd consider it worth checking them all- and I'm pretty sure there's over 50 that will be kept, probably nearer 75. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:32, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
In my view, us taking up our volunteer time to go through that much socked and paid editing is ... abusive. I really think they should just be rolled back. I appreciate your energy though. Jytdog (talk) 13:21, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Relativistic Global Non-Inertial Reference Frames

Our submission was rejected because of copyright concerns with the article http://archive.org/stream/arxiv-0912.2935/0912.2935_djvu.txt .. Lusanna (the author of the cited article) and I wrote the Wikipedia submission. We wish to rewrite those portions of that submission which have significant overlap with the cited article. We wish therefore that our article be retained in my sandbox for the editing that I wish to do. Thank you Horace Crater Hcrater (talk) 18:45, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

@Hcrater: That's fine, the article is still at Draft:Relativistic Global Non-Inertial Reference Frames. Also, when you say "Lusanna and I wrote the article", are you both using the same account? Because Wikipedia doesn't allow multiple users to share the same account- each individual must have their own account. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:50, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

I am the one who prepared the article . It is based in part on material on published papers we have either coauthored or just one of us authored. Of course we give appropriate references to our papers and the many others Hcrater (talk) 16:46, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Software-Defined Enterprise: more appropriate for Wiktionary?

Hi Joseph,

My apologies for the delay, I believe that rather than preparing this entry for Wikipedia Encyclopedia, would the right place be as an idiom in Wiktionary? The following references illustrate the notability of “Software-Defined Enterprises” by providing the first use of the term (#1) , exemplary definitions (#2,#3, #4 AND #5), evidence of the establishment of the S-DE profession (#6,#7, #8) and the confusion associated with the term (#9).

References spanning more than one year (per requirement to be included in Wiktionary): 1) VMWare: February 2014 VMware Partner Exchange “VMwarePEX Day 1 Keynote Wrap Up of Software Defined Enterprise”, from this Day 1 Wrap Up “This year VMware introduced a new term to the partner community, the Software-Defined Enterprise”. 2) VMWare: 2014 VMware Forum Keynote Presentation :“ Realizing the Software-Defined Enterprise”, at this conference. From the keynote presentation, S-DE is defined as “A self-service infrastructure that conforms to Enterprise IT requirements”. In this article, VM describes the software-defined enterprise as consisting of three major parts: network, storage and data center. 3) Dell: ITWORLD CANADA 2014 event Dell Keynote Presentation: “Dell Software Defined Enterprise: A practical vision of future ready IT”. From the keynote presentation, S-DE is defined as “An agile efficient foundation for growth everywhere” 4) CIO Insight 2014: “The Race for the Software-Defined Enterprise”, in this article the S-DE definition is referred to by “What initially started out as an effort to create the software-defined data center is now a race to define the software-defined enterprise in a way that brings server, network and storage management under one common framework.” 5) Wired: Article “Software-Defined Enterprises Are the Future”, defines S-DE as “organizations [able] to revolutionize their business model by establishing software as a core strategy, enabled by private or hybrid cloud solutions”. 6) Indeed.com: Salary analysis for “Software-Defined Enterprise Specialist” 7) LinkedIn: Professional category on linked in for S-DE Specialist – members are from VMware and Dell so far. 8) Software-Defined Enterprise World Forum 2015: http://softwaredefined-enterprise.com/ 9) Computer Weekly: Article illustrating confusion around Software-Defined Enterprise/Everything states : “And although "software-defined everything" (SDE) heralds a return to the tried-and-tested three-letter acronym (TLA) formula, its precise meaning to many CIOs is as nebulous as its more descriptive predecessor used to be.”

In light of your comments and above, should I propose the definition to Wiktionary, modify my previous submission, or do both?

This is proposed entry for Wiktionary that I would submit via its portal if you agree:

Noun Software-Defined Enterprise (Software-Defined Enterprises) 1. (management) An enterprise is deemed software-defined when it’s business model, governance and management system, policies, programs and services are defined using software by those responsible for collaboratively discharging the enterprise’s mandate in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Practices. 2. (Information and Communications Technology) A Software-Defined Enterprise that is represented such that it may be automatically deployed to enterprise information systems and equipment. 3. (computer science) The software-generated data in open standard format that represents an enterprise and that may be deployed using open standard network protocols to the enterprise’s devices, application software, network infrastructure and storage equipment. 4. (change management) a Software-Defined Enterprise that represents the results of a business transformation exercise; also referred to as a Software-Redefined Enterprise.

@134.117.249.65:/Daood, I don't know about Wikitionary, sorry- from what you've said, it sounds like that would be an acceptable entry for Wikitionary.
Those sources would also be good for the Wikipedia draft- if you add those sources to Draft:Software-Defined Enterprise, I think it's got a decent chance of being accepted, as I think 8 of those sources look to be reliable sources (Wikipedia doesn't accept LinkedIn as a reliable source)- if you could find a few more similar sources about the topic, that would increase the chances of it being accepted on Wikipedia.
Personally, it seems like doing both is a viable option to me. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:18, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Online petition edits.

User blocked now

I don't quite understand the need for a citation on common knowledge. I can show actual examples of this happening; libel, uninformed masses being encouraged to sign under deception, multiple signatures from the same household, activists with hacked email accounts of anti supporters bragging about using them to add signatures out of malice..... I can also show actual examples of where I've signed petitions as "Bill gates" and "Victoria Stilwell". What exactly do you need as a citation, this is no secret, these sites are corrupt as hell, I've been the target of harassment, had libelous petitions removed after having to involve the EU commission because the sites didn't want to know, had my inbox more or less blocked with spam emails telling me some moron has started a petition and every time there's 10 new signatures I get an email in an attempt to bully me into changing a course of action..... all of this is personal experience, and not just based on a sample of 1 instance. I'm well versed in the negative aspects of online petitions and am speaking as an authority from the shitty end of the stick these sites create. What do you need as evidence or proof? Buckmysalls (talk) 01:11, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

I assume you're the same person as the IP who asked exactly the same question at User talk:Winner 42 after making exactly the same edits. The answer is that everything added to Wikipedia needs to be properly verifiable- saying "I know it's true" isn't good enough, as anyone could say that, and there's no verifiable record of it actually being true. Therefore, everything added needs to be supported by reliable sources, to maintain the verifiable credability of the encyclopedia. Also, read WP:NPOV, the tone of this is not neutral, it's arguing a point that online petitions harass. If this is true, find some sources supporting it, and add it in an unbiased way. Joseph2302 (talk) 01:16, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

It is unbiased, I'm simply stating a fact that can be shown times over. Unless someone states this to begin with there won't ever be a source. Well, here it is, here's the source, it's on Wikipedia. An online petition with zero substance, flawed argument, based on incorrect or false information, then targeted at an individual or organization and encouraged to be spread on social media is harassment. It's not difficult to prove, these sites are packed with examples. It's not just a case of "I know it's true", it's undeniable, the evidence is as plain as the nose on your face, 5 minutes spent on these sites and even the most critical could be convinced. Are you implying it's not true unless I can copy and paste a link from another site stating exactly the same? What makes a source credible? Thing is, it's common knowledge amongst activists, that's why they use these sites, that's why they use this technique, the sites themselves exist to rake in dorrah so they're not likely to own up to being conduits for harassment, but the very nature of the sites and the more malicious users do exactly that. I can link to an example of exactly that if it helps and explain exactly why it's flawed, give evidence of malicious intent, examples of an individual using multiple emails and accounts to sign several times, all on one petition. Would that do as a credible citation? Buckmysalls (talk) 01:36, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Shagadelicbasil23 popping up

Obvious sock

Hi, I've noticed that you have been involved in the blocking of User:Shagadelicbasil23 and finding the other accounts used by them. I think 101.160.12.43 is a sock puppet because of very similar edits, pages they edited, tags etc. I am unsure of the formal process and exactly what to do when reporting it to the sock puppet case page, and I know it is even harder when it is an IP address, so I thought it would be useful to make you aware of it, since you have had quite a bit of success so far. Thanks Flickerd (talk) 11:57, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

@Flickerd: Yes, looks like a duck to me- lots of small, consecutive edits, all on cricket/AFL pages (which were the only ones Shagadelicbasil23 edited), every edit tagged as a "Mobile edit, Mobile web edit". As it's an IP address, no-one will run a Checkuser on it (since the results would probably be considered as outing), but I'll file an SPI and see what happens. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:05, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Flickerd (talk) 12:09, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

01:39:36, 8 June 2015 review of submission by SG Ultima

Never returned for the answer, feel free to reply below though if you do

Hello Joseph, just saw your comments on the draft page for "Xtreme Chaotix," in particular regarding how "much of the information is unsourced, and so is original research, which is not permitted."

Appreciate if you can help identify which parts are you referring that are unsourced. Unfortunately, as the organisation was dissolved, the website with relevant information regarding its existence and history cannot be found today (other than through info provided by its founding members and remnant articles from forums or websites). I have loads of documents officially recognising sponsorship from international brands, and images of our organisation winning major gaming championships. Would those help?

Also appreciate if you can elaborate why this is not suitable for wikipedia, since the idea for generating this page was inspired from another local gaming team under the article "PMS Asterisk" - which seem to source most of the info from the creator's personal blog.

Thanks!

SG Ultima (talk) 01:39, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Just to clarify, the topic isn't unsuitable for Wikipedia, the amount of original research and unsourced content is unsuitable. There are about 6 whole paragraphs of text without any reliable sources to support them- unsourced sections count as original research. If the organisation is actually notable, per WP:GNG and WP:ORG, then sources other than their official, and apparently now defunct, website will support the claims you make in a draft- generally using primary sources for anything other than basic information is discouraged anyway. RfC: Jimi Hendrix and acid rock

Hi! Would you care to comment at this RfC? It is about the article Jimi Hendrix and whether "acid rock" warrants inclusion in the infobox. Dan56 (talk) 04:05, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

00:56:50, 9 June 2015 review of submission by Harmonslide

My mistake, not a copyvio

I'd like to contest the deletion of the submission page below (on ribosomal natural products) as I believe the "copyright infringement" judgment have been made in error. I've re-reviewed the material, which was written independently (not copied from other sources) and which has a unique organization and set of figures (none of which are copied). I believe the appearance of "close paraphrasing" is a misreading of the Duplicate Detector report, as detailed on my "Contested Deletion" help page. Thank you for your time--I'm hoping this can be cleared up! If I missed something huge, I'd like to know. Harmonslide (talk) 00:56, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Things to consider while creating brand page on wikipedia

Replied elsewhere

Hello,

I am new to Wikipedia & I have seen that there are lots of company (brand) pages in wikipedia. I don't want to promote any business but would like to create a page for new brand in wikipedia & follow all the guidelines of wikipedia.

Can you give me information of how to create a brand page in wikipedia without violating its guidelines?

Thanks for taking the time to help review my first Wikipedia entry for the Perry Center. I see that you declined the posting because I had copied some material over from our own annual report, which is public domain, as we are a part of the Department of Defense. I have no problems making changes to the text of my article entry, but I am unable to retrieve any of the content that I created. Is there a way I can get it back so I can make edits to comply with the proper rules?

Best regards,

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at User talk:Noyster, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Check for edit conflicts more carefully so you don't remove talkpage comments. Health Redemption challenge

User now blocked

Please have a little patience. The Health Redemption challenge is work in progress and could take a day or two for completion. There are considerable references and other notable materials. Healthredemption (talk) 19:30, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

@Healthredemption: It has already been deleted by @FreeRangeFrog:. The main problem wasn't that there were no references, it was the tone of the article, it contained lots of marketing speech, which isn't neutral tone or at all encyclopedic. If you want to recreate it, I recommend creating a draft article using Wikipedia:Article Wizard, noting that the tone must be neutral, per WP:NPOV and that you need to add reliable sources to show why it's notable, per WP:GNG and WP:ORG- Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources is good for this.
Also, do you work for the organisation, if so you have a conflict of interest, and WP:COI discourages you from creating the page. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:45, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Joseph,

You continue to mark my article for deletion. The only reason why I can see you doing this is due to poor referencing, to which I am in the process of fixing. If you have a problem with the article subject itself, or do not have positive opinions on Mr. Toner, Wikipedia is not the place to express it.

Sasha. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SashaRearick (talkcontribs) 18:39, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

I gave my advice as a full explanation yesterday at Draft talk:James V. Toner- without decent sources, there is no evidence that he's notable. But you decided to ignore advice and publish it anyway. Also, sign your posts with ~~~~ Joseph2302 (talk) 18:43, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Dear Sasha- I am happy to inform you that I have accepted your request to write the article on "James V. Toner". I completely understand your lack of experience in article writing and I am glad to help. Having written articles on James in the Cape Cod Times over the past two years, I will be able to incorporate knowledge of my own regarding the subject matter, and include references to my previous editorials on him which cannot be found online. Please send me the original draft you created, so I may make changes where needed and enhance the quality of the piece, <redacted> Many thanks! -R — Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyPelkey (talkcontribs)

My status on the Pleime campaign

Ask on the relevant talkpage, or Wikipedia:WikiProject Military History- not my area of expertise

Joseph, What is the status of my The Pleime campaign's submission. I can no more access the discussion of it.Tnguyen4321 (talk) 20:06, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

The submission is at Draft:The Pleime Campaign. As I've noted there, when I asked for advice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history, they agreed that most of the content of this submission already exists at Battle of Ia Drang, because you added it to that page. There's no need for 2 articles about basically the same thing, which is why I declined it. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:09, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

I have been advised to carry the discussion further if I strongly feel there should be a separate article. I did. What happens to the arguments that I advanced. Have they been addressed to? I cannot see the discussion site where I posted them anymore.Tnguyen4321 (talk) 15:32, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

By the looks of it, you posted a counter-argument at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#Draft help please which no-one has replied to- I have no subject knowledge which was why I asked there in the first place.
You also posted here, which has a reply at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk/Archives/2015 June 2#22:00:22, 2 June 2015 review of submission by Tnguyen4321- apparently The Pleime Campaign now redirects to Battle of Ia Drang. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:37, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

I notice that my additional arguments for the creation of a separate article is missing. In the nutshell, I said it is irrational to redirect the whole (Pleime campaign) to one of its parts (battle of Ia Drang, siege of Plei Me); should it be the other way around? It is unfortunate that the matter had been given to unknowledgeable people to solve. It is a loss for Wikipedia. I will try to remedy the situation by editing further the Battle of Ia Drang. Thanks anyway for your attention on this matter.Tnguyen4321 (talk) 22:21, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

momo 09:22, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

@Mokawn: I've readded my comments about the draft, there's now a button that says "Resubmit". However, since the last review, you have removed most of the references- Wikipedia required more references about the company, to show it's notable, but the draft now has fewer references (only 1). Joseph2302 (talk) 11:53, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Joseph2302 I draft and I didn't change the information. I recheck and put it again. I will try to gather for the source as much as I can. Thank you so much for your comment and review.223.27.209.161 (talk) 03:33, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

I declined your CSD solely because there is an MfD running already and speedy deletion is unlikely to assist this (set of) editor(s). There is a major communication issue that is probably not language based. The editor refuses to listen and insists that they are correct. We might stand a chance of educating them via a deletion discussion. I do appreciate with precision why you placed the request. Ordinarily I would agree with you. I think this is an extraordinary case. Fiddle Faddle 11:06, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

I agree that it's a terrible submission, but I personally think getting rid of it quickly is preferable to drawing out the process with editor(s) unwilling to change their spammy non-notable article, which is just going to cause more arguments. There are 1500 other AFC submissions we could be working on, where people would appreciate our comments. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:08, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Well, while I doubt it, we might, just, convert this editor to being useful. Fiddle Faddle 11:27, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply. As many as you can is good, although looking at the draft now, you've got sources from all the big Indian newspapers (Hindu, Times of India, New Indian Express), so it's probably enough to show notability. Quite a few unreferenced sentences though, so either find sources for them, or remove them. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:34, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Eh, no worries about not finding anything with the short. I honestly wasn't expecting to find anything either and I think I really lucked out with the academic sources since I was really only able to read those because I have access to academic databases through work and my current school. I have to admit that the story behind Hollywood Party is pretty interesting- I ended up buying one of the book sources that I used in the HCS article because of the Hollywood Party content. 21:38:46, 12 June 2015 review of submission by Hannaguido

Could you please be more specific. So far there are five third-party sources, (not counting Comicsalliance which could be called a blog, so I will remove this). How many more quality sources will make the article acceptable? Hannaguido (talk) 21:38, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Put simply, as many as you can find. As @Timtrent: has now commented on there, the issue is that most of the article is focused on 1 event, giving it undue weight. There needs to be more written with sources about the publisher, to show why they're notable- the 1 incident doesn't make them notable. Also, not sure why there are 7 references at the bottom of the article. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:42, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you.

first thank you for reverting what he did, it is silly how some people just revert your edit if you delete something isn't sourced , secondly, I agree about deletion thing.. it is really not a notable thing to mention , ( scoring 50 goals a season ) so how does it work..? should i say I agree with you there ? or no only Admins gonna look at it now ? thank you Adnan (talk) 22:26, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

It's a deletion discussion, so anyone can contribute. The discussion has to last at least 7 days, after which an admin can close if there's a clear consensus (or anyone can close it if there's a clear consensus to keep). It's done by consensus not votes, but people still vote (usually votes go in bold text). Joseph2302 (talk) 22:34, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. can you tell me where exactly I can express my opinion it should be deleted ? because I didn't see any discussion about this at the page .

Mohan Nadkarni article

Article now deleted

Thanks for your message, Joseph.

This was my first article and I appreciate your suggestions.

The article is about my father, who is no more, contrary to the notice I received saying it is about a living person.

I have also changed the text to read more neutrally.

In addition, I have added a few references to the news item about his passing, which also contain his biographical details.

I hope this meets Wikipedia's standards.

Kind regards,

Help needed

Hello Joseph2302,

I have a question about the page I've tried to create. In the comments to help to develop the article you wrote "Needs more reliable sources to show that the corporation is notable enough". Does it mean if the company is not important enough it can't be on wikipedia ? I'm a little bit because I've edited two articles on the french and german wikipedia and there is no problem. It is also the first time that I use wikipedia and

Thank you

Every language Wikipedia has different rules/guidelines about what can have an article and what can't, English Wikipedia requires evidence of significant, independent coverage from reliable sources (books, newspapers, magazines, web content) about them, see WP:GNG. This submission doesn't show this, as [6] is a primary source, [7] only shows they exist, [8] and [9] only link to websites not specific articles. If there's good sources used in the French or German version then they can be used. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:35, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

I don't understand, please communicate in English. Also, there is no evidence that the album is notable, and Javad Ramezani doesn't even have a Wikipedia article. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:23, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Go have your argument elsewhere

Sir, thanks for investigating and understanding that I am not linked to Pakistan's Military. Just because I happen to have interest in military history, and unfortunately, being unaware of Wikipedia's username polices, I had a user name that misled some (although that username was not controversial, still I had it changed) to wrongly and at times deliberately believe that I am a member of Pakistani military and thus a certain user here have resorted to IP edits and have accused me of CoI in the past. Now, that I have changed my username after understanding and reading the polices here, I still was reported that too by an IP with fewer than 10 edits (9 of them were edits that accused me here). I must say that you understood the mischief behind the report and made the correct discussion. Thanks. —TripWire talk 12:10, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

No problem, there was 0 evidence and looking at the page, it's a clear content dispute, which should be resolved at article talkpages, not a WP:COIN, as no-one has an actually COI. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:30, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Sorry to bug you again, but the same users even after seeing your decision are continuously accusing me here. Despite repeated clarifications they instead of discussing the topic at hand are continuously shifting the focus of discussion towards me as a user. Even to the extent that after they have seen the result of the CoI Report, one user has still added a WP:COIN tag to me and still is openly accusing me. Even the IP that reported me is back and have started again with the accusation after the CoI decision. I am getting fed of these accusations. Is there a way that I can formally request an admin intervention or report them so that they could leave me alone? Seriously, it wont be possible for me to edit freely if I would be constantly harassed and receive personal attacks everytime I would join a discussion. Please advice what to do. Thanx—TripWire talk 14:08, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Edwise International

I've deleted Edwise International twice as spam. I haven't done so this time since I noted your involvement, but I have some concern that this version describes what they offer, but appears to lack basic info like how they are funded and how the money is spent. What do you think? Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:04, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

I accepted it because lots of the sources about it, such as [12], [13], [14], [15] are good reliable sources about it. I do kind of agree that more basic information would be helpful, but I don't currently have much time to look for more source. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:44, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

We have never written an article for Wikipedia before this one. However, we have both written hundreds of articles for magazines, periodicals and other media.

If you can provide us a more useable version of what we are allowed to post on this site, please help us in that regard. We have now edited our first attempt and now have a new version saved. Can you review that and see how it looks for us?

Please advise.

Can you help me edit

Bossladylife (talk) 09:51, 17 June 2015 (UTC)I would like to know if you can please update Rena Mero aka Sable from WWE wiki page, quite frankly as a huge fan of hers I feel she see deserves to have a newer much more updated picture than the one displayed on her page & I am new to wiki so i can't do it myself if you would be so kind as to do it for me I'd be very appreciative! Bossladylife (talk) 09:51, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

@Bossladylife: The problem is that most pictures of celebrities are copyrighted, so Wikipedia cannot use them- you can't just go on the web, find a picture you like, and add it to Wikipedia, like you tried to do. In order to use a newer picture, you would need to find one that isn't copyrighted, or where the copyright holder (usually the person who took the photo) gives permission for it to be used. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:01, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

I'm aware of that but it is also very difficult to find a picture that is not Copyrighted and that's why I was asking you because you seem like an experienced wiki user and you seem like you'd be a great help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bossladylife (talkcontribs) 10:10, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

page creation

Autobiography issue sorted

hi Joseph, I got your note about not creating a page about myself, which trust me, I totally get. I am asked to have a wikipedia page about myself for a work related issue. I don't like to talk about myself, let alone create a page for me. So that's my conundrum, I need to have one to get some things done with work, it's a requirement. What do I do in this case? I do not want to break any rules here as they all make sense. Yet I need to have this page here. Advise? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pabl0godoyestel (talkcontribs) 01:20, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

@Pabl0godoyestel: I highly doubt that you "need" to have one for work. In any case, unless there is actually significant, independent coverage in reliable sources about you, per WP:GNG, then it won't be accepted/kept anyway, regardless of how much you claim to need it. Note that Wikipedia is not a social network, see WP:NOTASOCIALNETWORK, but an encyclopedia, so any article about you would have to be neutral tone and well sourced with reliable sources, rather than a promotional/marketing page. Joseph2302 (talk) 01:26, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Joseph, I totally agree with you and will only be happy to not have this page. Will copy and paste your message to get off the hook. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pabl0godoyestel (talkcontribs) 01:28, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi,

I have spent quite some time reviewing the guidelines and have resubmitted. I have left in the code stating that the previous submission was rejected, should I delete it so people don't think this version has been rejected even though it says "Do not remove this line!" Decline message and comments- removed as messing with templates on this page
@69.165.139.137: No, you should keep the previous rejection and all the comments about it, it helps the next reviewer know what needed improving before, and whether or not it's been fixed. The reviewers will know it hasn't been rejected again, as the "review waiting" box is at the bottom, which means it's also on the list of submissions to review. Request on 11:39:39, 18 June 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by RisenFall

Draft accepted

Hi Joseph2302, thanks for your comments. I was wondering if I have enough citations now - I have 12 news sources. As you know I am a newbie : ) and I am worried that even comments like 'He sculpted a cheetah head and went back to the UK determined to sculpt full time' require a citation, even though they make no material claims about the sculptor other than the fact that his love of Africa started him working again, something that is evident in his many interviews. Thank you for your kind response. RisenFall (talk) 11:39, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

@RisenFall: Had a quick look, and all those sources look good. I'll have a proper look when I've got more time. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:24, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

@RisenFall: So they've got coverage in some of the UK's biggest papers, and some other sources, including a UAE paper. I believe this is enough to pass WP:GNG. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:46, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Joseph2302, brilliant! Thanks for assessing and passing the article so quickly. Is there any way I can show appreciation for your help? RisenFall (talk)

MetaProp NYC article speedy deletion

Hi Joseph2302,

The page I wrote up, MetaProp NYC, was speedily deleted and I'm not sure why. Can you please let me know what needs to be changed and how I can get the editing for my article back so I can fix whatever it is that made it deleted.

MetaProp NYC is the #1 real estate technology accelerator that recently opened applications for its 2015/2016 class of 8 startups. It has been in the news: http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/16/metaprop-nyc-launch-idUSnPn7lMxdB+89+PRN20150616?irpc=932 . It also has its own website, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Please let me know what I have to do to make MetaProp NYC's Wikipedia page public.

Upward Sports/Editing Question

Confusion sorted

Hi,

I definitely did not mean to be a nuisance at all when inputting edit requests for Upward Sports. Through a Wikipedia handbook for how PR agency people are supposed to engage, I thought the talk page was the appropriate place to suggest edits. I'll refrain from multiple requests in the future.

Please let me know if there is a more preferred way to suggest edits to the page (or any page) in the future and if there is anything we could do with the page to keep it live. I realize the brand is not notable in the U.K but it is very notable in the U.S., especially in the southeastern part of the country.

Thank you!

Drewhawkins2 (talk) 19:23, 19 June 2015 (UTC)drewhawkins2

It is the preferred way to make COI edit requests like you did, but there only needs to be 1 of them at a time- you posted 3 of them, making it incredibly difficult to actually read the text. Requests are fine, but you only need to add the {{edit notice}} once to the article. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:27, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

You flagged SmileCareClub is stand-alone, as covered in reference articles. Subject has been covered outside of Wikipedia by multiple sources including New York Times, the Today Show, and Progressive Orthodontist (a leading publication in the orthodontic field) as well as a number of local news stations. I just added another local news station source to further substantiate the article. My guess is it's being reported as not notable because you may have thought this is the same as other invisible aligners. It's a totally different company with a different model, as the sources show. @LTasc: Great. Now go discuss your affiliation to the company at WP:COIN#‎Dr. Panda Games- the evidence suggests you are affiliated, as you removed my cleaning up of the article, and the articles just been maintained by single-purpose accounts. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:38, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

23:16:59, 18 June 2015 review of submission by CS at Sensis

Advice given

CS at Sensis (talk) 23:16, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for taking the time to review my submission - would greatly appreciate any feedback about how I could improve the article for potential resubmission. Reading back over it I definitely understand your point about it seeming too much like an advertisement, but we're a little unsure of how to proceed. Would it perhaps be better if it was just a very short (stub-like) article with a few facts?

CS at Sensis (talk) 23:16, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Well from what I've seen, the company is in no way notable enough for a Wikipedia article, per WP:GNG and WP:CORP. Plus they already have a section in the Telstra article, which seems adequate to me for a company that doesn't seem very notable. Either way, writing it like a marketing brochure isn't going to help at all. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:20, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
One of the main reasons we wanted to create a separate article was because we are no longer associated with Telstra any more, and without trying to sound condescending, I would argue your view of our notability. (A quick Google News search shows we've been in plenty of news articles recently) If, however, that doesn't satisfy the requirements for notability, I completely understand and will instead just update the disambiguation page. But if you think we do fit the requirements for notability, I am of course happy to organise a complete reworking of the article to comply with neutral language. CS at Sensis (talk) 00:31, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Don't touch the disambiguation page, it's not for your company, it's for companies with Wikipedia articles. Also, with a tone of writing like the last submission, any article will never be accepted. Cut the marketing rubbish, and stick to just facts and reliable sources. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:42, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Note

Hi Joseph - thanks for all the work you do, especially dealing with the torrent of new articles that get created. You have positioned yourself right at the mouth of the torrent of conflicted editing that spews into WP and are doing a great job helping defend the integrity of WP. But it is getting to you - are getting too harsh, too fast, and dehumanizing the people you are dealing with. Which dehumanizes you. So... whatever you have to do, to keep from getting bitter, please do it. That is more important than anything. Thanks again for all your work here - you are doing a ton of good work. Jytdog (talk) 23:48, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

PS - for some reason, the "New Section" tab at the top of your Talk page is gone. Wierd. Jytdog (talk) 23:49, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
How am I being too harsh? They outed themselves by posting at the helpdesk, WP:Help Desk#Wiki disappeared from Google Search results, and then complained when other users (not me) tagged the articles as COI and advertising. Looking at the histories, a lot of the bad content was from them, for instance Britannia Creek was created by them, and is basically just a copy of Britannia Beach#Britannia Creek pollution. And it wasn't me who outed them as a paid editor, I simply moved the discussion to WP:COIN, the most appropriate venue for the discussion. The fact is that multiple editors have been disapproving of their work, yet for some reason they've decided to entirely blame me. Please explain exactly where I was harsh to them, given the fact that 2 other users clearly agree that they are an undisclosed paid editor whose company specialises in river articles? Joseph2302 (talk) 00:00, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
Also, the New Section tab is probably to do with a Javascript I tried to create, it'll hopefully fix itself soon, as I deleted the Javascript. Joseph2302 (talk) 00:00, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
(the horrors of javascript. i hope your headers do self-heal) i didn't write here to fight with you. I hope you can hear what I wrote. If you cannot or don't agree, you can ignore it. But please know that I watch what you do, and I really value your work at COIN. I don't want to see you burn out. Jytdog (talk) 00:07, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
I get it, you think I'm doing too much, and in your opinion it's making my contributions less good. The fact is I don't see it- is there anywhere you specifically think I've been too harsh? Joseph2302 (talk) 00:13, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't think you are doing too much - every body has different capacities and i cannot judge yours (if only we had a "fed up with bullshit gauge", right?) . What i've seen is you getting harsher, quicker, lately, which is the closest thing we have to one of those. you actually struck the most recent comment at COIN where you were maybe too aggressive - so you saw it. thanks for doing that. i wish you the best, mister. Jytdog (talk) 00:45, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello, you recently rejected my article on the grounds of inproper referencing. I made sure to get numerous reliable third party references so am unsure as to what I can do to improve the sources used. Can I get some tips as it is gradually improving but referencing is letting me down.

What did you make of the content?

Given my advice at the article, don't think the department is ever going to be notable enough, it should just be a section of the main University of Kent article IMO. Joseph2302 (talk) 01:11, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

I just processed (at OTRS) a licensing of text relevant to the draft and posted it on the talk page. I edited the CSD to remove the copyright item. I haven't reviewed the article I express no opinion about the promotional aspects.--S Philbrick(Talk) 02:43, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Looks like @Jimfbleak: has deleted it as a G11/G12, so it still fails G11. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:27, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Tuan Le (Computer Scientist). I do not think that Tuan Le (Computer Scientist) fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because "Tuan has published over ten peer reviewed papers in top journals and conference proceedings" is a claim of significance, as is "Best Papaer award". I request that you consider not re-tagging Tuan Le (Computer Scientist) for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. I think you were a bit too quick on this one. I do mostly approve of your tags and other edits that I have seen. DES (talk) 02:57, 22 June 2015 (UTC) "

The Gay Center, Tel Aviv-Yafo Deletion?

I am new to wikipedia, and do not know how to work this site. I didn't know there was a "sandbox" or a "draft article space". I didn't see those options available. I don't mind editing the article that exists, but the name of the article is incorrect. The Tel Aviv Municipal LGBT Community Center is not even the name of the center. The Center would like that corrected. How do I go about messaging the author of the article and asking for him to correct this mistake? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gsperlin89 (talkcontribs) 11:17, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Louisiana Culinary Institute

Hello: Louisiana Culinary Institute has been trying to correct information on its wikipedia page that is outdated. This is not to be done to self promote but to ensure that the information is correct. For example we do not offer diploma's anymore. This is my first time attempting to edit a wiki page and I have seen your resources, however I am still unsure of what exactly got my post removed. The information listed is factual. I have received several menacing emails that are very hostile but we are not trying to do anything wrong but rather repair a page that was recently removed. Please provide me with specific instruction. Noting wiki rules is vague without saying exactly where the issue is.

Thank you Leah.white (talk) 20:37, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

[1]

@Leah.white: As mentioned at your talkpage, you need to stop removing content supported by reliable sources and replacing it with "official company text"- you may claim that what you're adding is correct, but this cannot be verified. Also, the content of your additions is ridiculously promotional, against WP:NPOV These include:
  1. Adding a contact address, which is entirely unnecessary and unwanted.
  2. Listing all your degrees- not wanted per WP:NOTADIRECTORY
  3. "Admissions" section- not wanted, it's information that should be on your website, not an enyclopedia.
Also, you have a conflict of interest, please read WP:COI- it strongly discourages you from editing this page due to your COI. Instead you should suggest changes at the talkpage, Talk:Louisiana Culinary Institute, with your changes supported by reliable sources.
Also, per WP:OWN, you don't own the Wikipedia article about your institute. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:44, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. As you just were more clear in your last response, that is what I was requesting. This is our first attempt at using wikipedia. My first post contained an address and contact phone number however my subsequent one did not. Our toll free number recently changed as did our degree program offerings. That is not noted anywhere in a media file, therefor how should that be handled? The reason for the other short attempt at posting has still not been explained.

Thanks --Leah.white (talk) 20:51, 22 June 2015 (UTC)LW

If it was important for the encyclopedia, it would be covered in reliable sources. And no-one is going to contact you via email or post about it. If no reliable sources support your changes, then they shouldn't be made. Addition of unsourced material (or material just sourced from your own website) is not acceptable. Ann Callender Barker (public servant and academic)

I wanted to let you know that I declined your A7 and G11 speedy deletion nominated of [[Ann Callender Barker (public servant and academic)]. While the article was improved with the additional of references since you nominated it, I would say that the article subject has done sufficient public service to warrant being classified as "significant," although notability may still be in question. I also don't agree that the tone of the article is unambiguously promotional to the extent that it would warrant speedy deletion, although cleanup may be necessary. If you would still like to nominate the article for deletion, you may do so through WP:PROD or WP:AfD. Thank you.--Slon02 (talk) 03:09, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Style on the teahouse

Joseph2302, we particularly want the Teahouse to be friendly and easy to use for new editors, see Wikipedia:Teahouse/Host lounge/Expectations. Please pipe links to Wikipedia policy, guideline or procedure pages with a comprehensible description such as "our guideline on notability in music" rather than an initalism or abbreviation such as "WP:NMUSIC" which conveys nothing to the newcomer and makes the response seem opaque and hard to deal with. Please remember to greet the editor you are responding to. Thank you for all your work here. DES (talk) 12:29, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

I feel like I did explain it to them, I explained that they needed sources and/or a significant musical achievement, and then just added the links afterwards. Also, how is WP:NMUSIC less helpful than notability guidelines on music- IMO, not every new person is going to think of clicking on a link saying "notability guidelines on music". Also, I use the ping at the start as a way of addressing/welcoming them. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:47, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
Because a new editor will often look at WP:NMUSIC and think, "that is some weird cryptic code" whereas text such as "notability guidelines on music" does a better job of making it clear what the link is for, in my view, and conveys a significant amount of the meaning even if the reader doesn't follow the link. You could always add something like "Please follow the links in this post for more information", or instead of piping the link do something such as "WP:NMUSIC (our guideline on notability in music)".
As to the greeting, while a ping is good, a ping plus a greeting is generally thought to feel more welcoming, that is "Hello, Example", rather than "@Example:"
To be clear, I think you are generally providing helpful answers, which is very important. Also, these are not my ideas alone, do read the "Expectations" page linked above, please. Then do as you see fit. DES (talk) 00:30, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
Autobiographical spammer, banned from my talkpage

Hi,

Re external links, I was just following the example of a colleague's Wikipedia page (Peter Harrison (historian)). The external links are no longer on my page.

Also, I provided a Wikipedia link to my page on the Wikipedia page for Carroll Izard.

I have removed several of my publications, and have removed unnecessary wording wherever possible.

Are any other corrections required?

Gjboyle (talk) 07:42, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

@Gjboyle: First of all, you shouldn't be writing an autobiography, per WP:AUTO and WP:COI. Secondly, this edit is not any of the things you mentioned above, it's listing a random collection of external links, which is not wanted, per WP:EL. Thirdly, and most importantly, it is not your article, it's an article about you on the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, you do not own it, per WP:OWN. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:29, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Joseph2302, I am new to Wikipedia, and did not know the rules. Thank you for clarifying this for me. Gjboyle (talk) 16:05, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

My post was deleted for "unambiguous advertising"

Hi, Joseph,

My draft post for the nonprofit Global Hope Network International was marked for deletion (and deleted very recently), because "because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic."

I am still puzzled by this because I visited several other Wikipedia entries on nonprofits and tried to follow the basic format they used to help ensure my post would be approved. I have also received the message that it "lacked notability," something that does not make sense to me, either. I am ready and willing to work with anyone who has a few minutes to nail the matter home for me in terms this Wikipedia newbie can get. :-)

On that subject, I would also like to know if it is common for someone claiming to be an experience Wikipedia editor to approach the organization I wrote the post on, offering to fix it for a fee of $300 - an offer that was totally unsolicited.

Thank you very much.71.53.230.137 (talk) 00:32, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

@71.53.230.137: It's definitely not legitimate someone contacting you asking for money to improve draft articles- see [17] and WP:COIN#Impersonation by paid editors, there are some scammers pretending to be experienced Wikipedia editors.
The next issue is that at the Teahouse, you said "The people who commissioned me to write their entry...". Therefore, you have a clear conflict of interest, please read WP:COI- if additionally they were paying you, then you must disclose this, in accordance with the Wikimedia terms of use.
As for Draft:Global Hope Network International, I see very little encyclopedic value to it, and so much inappropriate, promotional language, such as:
  1. TRANSFORMATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT section- basically just a mission statement, which isn't wanted
  2. "selling high-quality, gently-used garments and accessories"- all promotional/opinion-based statements
  3. "with a goal of bringing progress to rural communities through transformational leadership, public policy, and economics."- goals and mission statments again
For the question of notability, Wikipedia requires evidence of significant, independent coverage from reliable sources, per WP:GNG and WP:CORP. See WP:Identifying reliable sources for what are considered reliable sources. Joseph2302 (talk) 00:44, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
Also, it's not been deleted. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:29, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Joseph, I am having some trouble now finding your original reply to my question about reinstating and improving my draft post on Global Hope Network International from yesterday, but I recall that you asked me to state my affiliation with them before we proceed any further. My affiliation is that of unpaid volunteer.

I look forward to hearing what else I can do to get this ball back on track if at all possible. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Speedy deletion declined: User:Gjboyle

Sorted

Hello Joseph2302. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:Gjboyle, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I think this version is acceptable within the PUYES guideline. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 13:22, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

@JohnCD: I feel that the phrases "As a longstanding, experienced Senior Editor of several major works and widely-used international handbooks in psychology and related disciplines (SAGE Publishers and Elsevier/Academic Press), as well as the author/co-author of over 200 scholarly publications" are self-promotional and not acceptable. It also contains links to their works-obvious promotion. How does this not qualify it under U5? Joseph2302 (talk) 13:30, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
It's still on the puffy side, but much better than the previous version (i.e., he's learning) and it looks as though he intends to be a contributor and is not here just to promote himself. In fact, he already has mainspace contributions, and U5 is for those with "few or no edits outside of user pages"; and I see another user from his specialised field has engaged with him.
Personally, I would like new users, before they sign up, to have to read a page about what WP is and isn't for. That would save a lot of embarrassment and wasted effort, and would let someone like this have an easier start by understanding before he starts that this isn't like Facebook.. JohnCD (talk) 15:28, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi, @Joseph2302:, I deeply respect what you are doing here and am glad that there are Wikipedians with discernment about the problem of self-promotional content on Wikipedia. That said, I think @JohnCD: is correct here that new user @Gjboyle: is making understandable newbie mistakes that can be corrected through advice about Wikipedia policies and guidelines rather than by deletion of his user page. I see you range all over most topics on Wikipedia and have developed a sensitivity to the problem of self-promotion. By contrast, I mostly watch articles about psychology and anthropology and linguistics, and in the first two of those topics, especially, a lot of articles are subtly vandalized by insertion of content (sometimes unsourced, sometimes cited to unreliable sources) to push agendas found on political websites and blogs. For those articles, the problem is not so much self-promotion as POV-pushing. I was aware of Professor Boyle's writing career before he ever appeared here on Wikipedia, and I am delighted any time I see actual psychology researchers who have been entrusted with writing reliable secondary sources (handbook chapters, review articles, and the like) as he has appearing here on Wikipedia. We need a lot more editors like him here, as long as he becomes acculturated to writing about the topics he knows about and has sources for rather than about his former teachers or himself, primarily. You are definitely alert to an important issue, and I commend you for your alertness, but I think the net gain for the project here would be achieved by reminding Professor Boyle to post sourced content written in a neutral manner so as to convince a person curious about the topic without unduly mentioning himself. I expect he is able to do that, and anyway the psychology articles here badly need more contributions by actual scholars of psychology. Keep up the good work; see you on the wiki. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 17:13, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
I'm glad he's making good edits, but I firmly believe his User page was inappropriate, as was creating an autobiography. Either way, I've taken his talkpage off by watchlist, because continuing this discussion isn't going to help anyone. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:46, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

RE: Wikipedia Article: Gregory Boyle (psychologist)

Ok Joseph2302, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, as long as you desist from further aggressive attacks on my edits. If my edits are really so inappropriate, I'm sure that other Wikipedia administrators will let me know. As for my profile page, you obviously have a problem with it, although why would I care at 65 years of age. My academic career is just about finished, and quite frankly I couldn't care less whether you delete it or not. Those who will lose out will be 1) Wikipedia (albeit to a small degree); but more importantly, 2) students and scholars who wish to follow up in my areas of research and scholarship. If you are concerned that there are too many publications listed in the Article "Gregory Boyle (psychologist)" then feel free to delete all the Book Chapters, and Journal Articles. The Edited Handbooks should suffice. Have a nice evening! Gjboyle (talk) 02:06, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

@Gjboyle: With regards to your autobiography, it's not up to me what happens to it, it's for the community to decide. As for your other edits, they seem good to me, and to other people you've been working with, so thank you for improving Wikipedia. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:54, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

You have declined my Pratham Shiksha article for submission. I here by request you to clarify a few of my doubts. The references provided: The newspaper article (The Times Of India article, and the blog article By Molly are independent and reliable sources of information. Also will it be proper to state, " Pratham Shiksha is a charitable organization in Jaipur, Rajasthan (India) working towards supporting and promoting basic education for the underprivileged." Sometimes you can let your mind wander a bit when searching for pics for an article. I tried to dig up something for you for the article (since a pic is always nice in an article), but the only pic they had of insulation tape was yellow. Best, w.carter-Talk 22:45, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Lots of Insulation Tape
I added a picture of Andy Flower, unfortunately no free ones of Henry Olonga (the other protester) exist. Not sure if yellow, or 5 colours of insulating tape, would be better. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:50, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Naw, the Andy-pic is fine. A picture just makes the article more "real" to a reader. And it's a serious article so the tape was only a very, very last resort. w.carter-Talk 22:53, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Request to Guide More about My Declined Page

Helped, but I have a no rereviews policy

Dear Joseph,

I have created a wiki page for N Z Seasonal Wear Pvt. Ltd. but it was declined due to having below things in the content:

  • "high quality"
  • "stylish and utility based"
  • "massive 3,00,000sqft manufacturing facility"

I didn't intend to promote it, but still I am going to modify it in neutral tone as you mentioned earlier.

Apart from this, I will really appreciate your help if you could let me know what sort of other things I need to take care while creating the same page in wikipedia.

Your response will be obligation for me.

Kindest Regards,

Rajcurator (talk) 13:17, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

@Rajcurator: Aside from the tone issue, you need to add reliable sources, to show evidence of significant, independent coverage about them in reliable sources, per WP:GNG and WP:CORP. Examples of reliable sources include newspaper/magazine articles or books about them, a full list is at WP:Identifying reliable sources. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:20, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Joseph2302:, Thank you for your response. I have made changes in my draft. I request you to go through it & give your feedback. The same is mentioned below:

Redraft of article

N Z Seasonal Wear Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian company owned by Mr. Deenbandhu Trivedi, specialized in manufacturing rain and winter wear.

The Company owns rainwear brands Zeel, Waterfighter and Rainfighter and is considered to be one of the India’s largest manufacturers of rain coats, rain suits, trenches and windcheaters.

Self-promoter

Hello Joseph2302

I am new to Wikipedia, and yes I had registered as a different user prior to re-registering with a new name. The first article was published with no issues however I noticed that the page title was in lowercase letters and as much as I tried to sort the matter out, I was not successful. So I proceeded to create a second page which completely messed things up.

I deleted both pages and decided to give it another crack. Hence why you see a new account being registered. I also keep getting a message that says there is a matter of copy infringement when all of the content I am posting on the article is available within the public domain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Syoshants (talkcontribs) 20:17, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

@Syoshants: They were all deleted as copyright infringements, and creating multiple accounts is not permitted per WP:SOCK, especially not when you create one after a final warning on the other account. My advice would be to ditch one account, and only use one account, if the admins decide not to block you for being here only to promote your book and using a sock account. Also, you didn't delete any pages, they got deleted as obvious copyright infringements. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:31, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

@Joseph2302 Thank's alot for the prompt feedback. I'll stick with the current account I have. Appreciate it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Syoshants (talkcontribs) 20:36, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

@Syoshants: Well in my opinion, you're only here to promote your book, so should be blocked anyway. But if you don't get blocked, then only using this account is fine. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:38, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

@Joseph2302. I'm here to register an article about the book on Wikipedia. See plenty of books registered on Wiki. Is that against policies? The article bears no promotional content; just an overview of the story and a new publication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Syoshants (talkcontribs) 20:41, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Explained at the article talkpage. Also, you're here to write about your book (your other username made that obvious), that's strongly discouraged per WP:COI. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:47, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Answered question, cannot answer copyright questions about 2013 as not an admin

Dear Joseph,

I have been notified this morning about the speedy delation request you have issued. I'm a bit confused on the motivations and was uanble to read your message to me as it did not appear on the talk page. I wonder if you could guide me to better understand what has prompt you to request the delation and to check if there are any solutions to avoid this. I believe that the informations contained in the article are reliable, most of sources can be traced, and that there is a strong public facing aspect about the subject of this article (Orsola de Castro) that fully justify its publication, therfore I'm not clear on the exact reasons of your request. I have included to this email a few links about the subject for your attention. I can provide more if this can help.

[1] [2] [3] [4]

I hope to hear from you soon, best regards,

Orsola de Castro (talk) 09:29, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Your user page is not the place to store draft articles, see WP:UPYES and WP:UPNO. If you are drafting an article, please do so at your sandbox, User:Wikir2w/sandbox or in draftspace, Draft:Orsola de Castro. Also, are you the person being written about? If so, please read WP:AUTO, which strongly discourages the creation of autobiographies. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:30, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Dear Joseph,

many thanks for your reply. To answer to your questions.

No I'm not drafting an Article, the article was originally published I believe three years ago and subsequently updated, unfortunately because of an error it had been published with the title - User: Orsola de Castro. I had been trying to correct this without success and then enquired with wikipedia a while ago on how to address the matter but did not received an answer.

No I'm not Orsola de Castro, the article was published originally by a student that came for an internship, working with us at Reclaim To Wear, a company where Orsola de Castro is appointed creative director. After her experience with us she had the idea to start a wikipedia account and develop the article, she then has given us access to the user page. As previously said I strongly believe that Orsola de Castro has a public profile that justify the article and this is way I'm requesting for the article not to be delated. I recommend that you further look into this matter as in recent years Orsola de Castro has been involved in some of the most prominent campaigns for supporting sustainable development in fashion, she is the co-founder of Fashion Revolution Day an annual campaign that has reached a global reach, she is a regular speaker at international conferences and has been teaching in universities around the world. I hope tat his will further help to clarify, Very best, Filippo Ricci Orsola de Castro (talk) 14:11, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Well, Orsola de Castro was deleted years ago as a copyright infringement. And as I mentioned above, it's not an acceptable use of a userpage. Also, you've said that multiple users have been using this account, which is not permitted by Wikipedia policy, which clearly states single use. If you want to write an article about them, please read WP:COI, and then create a new account for yourself (not one being used by multiple editors), and use WP:Article Wizard. Note you aren't allowed to just copy your website, per WP:COPYVIO.
A note to admins: This account should probably be blocked for shared use. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:36, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks again, OK so my understanding here is that basically the FORM (misused of userpage, multiple users etc) but not the CONTENTS are the reason why a delation has been issued. So if this is the case, once the userpage will be delated, if we reinstall a completely new userpage page, and all is done correctly (which obviously was not the case in the first place) there are no reason for an article about Orsola de Castro not to be published, provided we respect the guidelines and rules previously discussed? By the way the previous article did not mirrored anything else available on the web. Can I please ask you why Orsola de Castro was delated years ago for copyright infringement? Many thanks for your support and help, Filippo Ricci Orsola de Castro (talk) 17:44, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Wikir2w, the article Orsola de Castro was deleted on 5 June 2013 as a copyright infringment of http://www.aboynamedsue.co/paperback/sue/eternal-optimist/ by User:TParis, who is still active. Wikipedia takes copyright vey seriously, and if text is or appears to be copied from an outside web page it is usually deleted very promptly. As such, that text would not be undeleted, but a new article that clearly demonstrated the notability of the subject, that is, showing that that multiple independant reliable sources had discussed the subject is some detail might be accepted, if written in a neutral non-promotional way. 05:40, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

Joseph, many thanks for all of your time and patience. This should be the last time I write you, at least in relation to this matter. It is all much more clear now and I will proceed to formulate a new page based on our discussion. One last things leave me a bit confused about the delation on the 5th of june 13 based on copyright infringement, as I went on to check the link that you had quoted (http://www.aboynamedsue.co/paperback/sue/eternal-optimist/). This is an interview to Orsola de Castro but in terms of copyrights I do not understand what/where is the infringements. The text is completely different, only similar because it refers to the same person, otherwise the texts are not quoting each other. It is one of many interviews that have been published both online and offline with Orsola de Castro so I would need to further understand why this is considered an infringment so that I do not incurr in the same problem again.

As said, many thanks again for your help, best Filippo Orsola de Castro (talk) 13:52, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

@Orsola de Castro: I'm not an admin, so cannot view the article deleted in 2013 (in fact I wasn't even a Wikipedian then), you would have to ask the deleting admin, @TParis:. In answer to your question, all text is copyrighted, unless it has a compatible license to be used on Wikipedia- from what I can see, that article does not have such a licence, therefore copying text from there would be a copyright infringement.
