Speedy deletion nomination of James V. Toner
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on James V. Toner requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your edits
[edit]Hi Sasha, it seems like you've plunged right into the fray here! However, many of your edits have been reverted, often due to grammatical issues but sometimes for other reasons (e.g. your change of date formats and your overuse of capitalization against the relevant guidelines. I've also noticed that you've tried to recreate James V. Toner as an article; I've reverted that as well. If you are closely associated with him, you should ideally not edit anything on Wikipedia about him. Graham87 05:39, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Hey User:Graham87, Sorry about that, I was looking to make some quick, minuscule edits for my account to be autoconfirmed so I may add an image to an article I'm currently drafting. The reason why the article on Mr. Toner was deleted was because I accidently published the unfinished article (I'm still a rookie, here). I met the kid in Val Gardena, watching him race as I stood in awe of his performance at such a young age. Wanting to learn more about him, I searched for Jamss through Wikipedia with no results. So, I felt obligated to begin creating an article about him. I've gathered a significant amount of information regarding his youth and career accomplishments through various newspaper articles, books and several online references.
Unfortunately, our talk was brief, so I wouldn't consider myself being "closely associated" with him. He's got serious potential, and I want to help him be known to the general public to improve his chances of recieving an individual sponsorship for the 2015/16 season.
This isn't a useless article on a plain 'ole kid growing up in a normal life. We're talking about a U.S. Development Ski Team athlete, and we very well could be talking about a next-generation Aksel Lund Svindal. He's got a story unparallel to any other, and I've taken the initiative to share it to a greater audience.

[edit]Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with James V. Toner. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. I told you yesterday that your draft was not notable enough, as most of the sources aren't even about them. You're not allowed to remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created. Response to your questions at Talk:James V. Toner
[edit]The time limit on drafts is not 2 days like you said at Talk:James V. Toner. There is no time limit, however if you don't edit it for over 6 months, then it may be deleted as an abandoned draft, per WP:CSD#A13. Even then you can just request to get it back. Basically, you can take your time to get the article right, in particular you need to find more reliable sources otherwise it'll just get deleted again- see Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources for how to find reliable sources. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:53, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Joseph, good to know. Aside from the referencing, is there anything else about the article that needs to be fixed? I'd rather take care of all of it in one large sweep, rather than it be continuously deleted for different reasons.
- You need to show why he's notable enough for a Wikipedia article per WP:GNG- from what I can see, he's only been in local tournaments, which won't be enough to ever show they're notable.
- Also, are you aware that a user User:RandyPelkey is also trying to create a page about the same person, I've recommended they work on your draft as well instead of creating yet another article about him. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:44, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Joseph, thank you. I will contact him and try to sort things out. Did I not mention that he is a current member of the U.S. Development Ski Team? A Nature Valley NASTAR National Champion? Is that not notable enough?
- Yes you did, but being predicted to debut in the 2018 Alpine World Cup , as well as a projected United States Olympic Committee hopeful for the 2022 Winter Olympics is not an actual claim to notability, it's all speculation of what they might do. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:51, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Joseph, thank you for your response. The speculation was not of my own, it came from three trusted sources. Are you legitimately telling me a simple speculation, even though it originates from three trusted sources, is prohibited? Without it, the reader would not be able to determine his level of ability on the development team....
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, SashaRearick. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. There is definitely some sort of off-Wiki connection between yourself, James V. Toner and User:RandyPelkey- on my talkpage, they said "Dear Sasha- I am happy to inform you that I have accepted your request to write the article on "James V. Toner". I completely understand your lack of experience in article writing and I am glad to help. Having written articles on James in the Cape Cod Times over the past two years, I will be able to incorporate knowledge of my own regarding the subject matter, and include references to my previous editorials on him which cannot be found online. Please send me the original draft you created, so I may make changes where needed and enhance the quality of the piece, <redacted> Many thanks! -R " Please explain your affiliation to James V. Toner and User:RandyPelkey- please answer on your talkpage, not mine. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:46, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:James V. Toner
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:James V. Toner, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
