Disambiguation link notification for December 14
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited N7 (Bangladesh), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Magura and Faridpur (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hand-coding
[edit]Hey all :).
I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).
You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyeswikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).
If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:26, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Sources for A-League Supporters Groups
[edit]Hi. Just saw your addition to the A-League article. Would you mind having a look at the comment I've put at Talk:A-League#Supporters Groups mostly unsourced. (Before you made your addition.) There's been three changes there today now, and you're the only other registered editor involved. I saw less point in asking the IP editors. I'm trying to approach this diplomatically. I know it's sadly common for soccer articles to not be well written or well sourced, but I reckon it would be good if we could lift our game for the main A-League article. Speedy deletion nomination of Christmas is South Africa
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Christmas is South Africa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Harry the Dog WOOF 14:13, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Parkmore Soccer Club
[edit]Hello Hack, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Parkmore Soccer Club, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Based on the page history, the otehr website appears to have copied Wikipedia, rather than the other way around. [edit]At one of my work locations today I was reassured that the Trans Australian train did indeed run to Perth until 1990 - I was ready to argue black and blue it didnt...(I thought it ceased in the early 70's) - btw your hatnote is useful - thanks for that... the conflation of lines (ie track and sections of track) with operations (trains and services), and rolling stock (locomotives and carraiges) is a real issue in some rail articles and in some category usage is just plain wrong. sats 09:06, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Dealing with children
[edit]Hey guy. Half an hour ago or so you Twinkle-tagged an autobiographical article by a user called LEMAYAN ROBERT WALKER (talk · contribs) for speedy deletion. If you'd taken the time to actually look at it properly, you would have noticed that it was written by a child, and included personally identifiable information. Drive-by tagging in a case like that is not useful. They won't understand a word of the talk page message, and it won't teach them anything about online safety. Please take a look at the message I left for him for an example of dealing with the situation in a more useful fashion.

PRODs and BLPPRODs
[edit]Hi Hack. I'm sorry there's been some confusion at the Help Desk over your question. The original purpose of the BLPPROD policy, when it was created, was to resolve the issue of people re-adding PROD tags to pages that violated BLP (or more precisely, Jimbo's requirements that "all BLPs... must have sources"). The whole purpose of BLPPROD was to create a proposed deletion process that was conditional on certain changes before it could be legitimately removed, unlike the existing PROD process. Unfortunately (for you!), because it was spun out of the pre-existing policy, it got named BLPPROD (as opposed to WP:BLPDEL or something similar), making it appear as though it was a subset of the PROD policy rather than a new policy intended to augment it. It's therefore treated as a separate, albeit related, process - deprodding an article does not make it impervious to the BLP policy, and hence does not negate the addition of a BLPPROD tag if warranted.
I've started a thread at WT:PROD to adjust the wording of WP:DEPROD accordingly; if you'd like to comment there you'd be very welcome. All the best, Yunshui 雲水 10:43, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:
- dates
- years
- commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
- common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).
(This even applies for infoboxes.)
Thanks and my best wishes.

Speedy deletion nomination of Dennis Yaager
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Dennis Yaager requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Speedy deletion nomination of Talk:Perth Glory FC (NPL)
[edit]A tag has been placed on Talk:Perth Glory FC (NPL) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - I am requesting Article for Deletion - as all information is already duplicated under the Article Perth Glory FC Youth - and it is also misleading as it implies that this is a new team commencing 2014, wheras in fact it is part of a team that was founded 6 years ago, and just happens to be playing in two parallel competitions now. Soccer = football again
[edit]I have begun a thread at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Football in Australia)#Full names of soccer clubs to discuss how we should use the "fullname" parameter in the Infobox template. A tag has been placed on Template:Australia national football team results2 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews
[edit]Hello Hack. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.
The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.
If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)
If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.
Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.
I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Re: Districts of São Paulo
[edit]To be honest, I'm not sure. For any other city I would agree to disambiguate with commas and not parentheses, but in the specific case of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, I'm in doubt, since these are the names of Brazilian states as well. "Morumbi, São Paulo", might lead some to believe there is a city called Morumbi in the state of São Paulo. Victão Lopes Fala! 15:56, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Trevor Kemp
[edit]The article Trevor Kemp has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- According to WP:NFOOTY, players for Berwick Rangers, Sheffield Juniors and Melbourne Hungaria do not meet WP:NFOOTY as clubs not on this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Fully_professional_leagues. Doesn't meet WP:GNG either.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Boleyn (talk) 08:52, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Politicians—number of children
[edit]Hi, and thanks for your work on Australian politician articles.
I notice you inserted a numeral (later changed from 3 to 2) for "number of children" in the infobox of a WA politiician. The problem in completing this field is that the informaiton is not verified (and is indeed difficult to verify in many cases); it's also likely to be unstable (people have more children). Another issue is the relevance and possible POV in inserting this information into a prominent position—does it matter? Well, it might if trying to appeal to voters of the family values type, something that should be discouraged in balanced encyclopedic articles. I've seen clutter in infoboxes such as "One son, two step-daughters". Fascinating. Thanks. Tony (talk) 05:28, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Tony1:, I was just following the suggested practice, documented at {{Infobox person}}, where the number of children is numbered, unless the children are notable. Hack (talk) 06:02, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hack, thanks. You can see why number of children is a bit dodgy, though! I will go there to query that instruction. BTW, I've just seen full names and ages (ages???) of three children listed in an infobox. Cheers. Tony (talk) 06:04, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can see the problem. I'll have a look myself. Hack (talk) 06:29, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Edit (Adam Johnson)
[edit]I'm not sure how exactly a talk page works but I believe this how, correct me If I'm wrong. Now concerning my edit Adam Johnson, was indeed a mistake of mine. I did foolishly believe that was his nickname, as I saw it on many news. I did not realize until today he had committed an disturbing act which had many of people stated this was his legit nickname. In the football world, many such nicknames exist, that may sound crazy but are indeed true. They include Wolfgang Wolf, Fabian Assman, and Have-a-look Dube. They may sound fake, but they are indeed true. Once Again, I apologize for my edit it was mistake. Now, concerning a user by the name of @Bencherlite, it seemed like this user's message to me, was highly unnecessary. I did not appreciate what he said, especially since this was a mistake. I do not want to be blocked, I have been very helpful to edits concerning football/soccer, and don't believe I should be blocked by someone who automatically assumed I was vandalizing the page. Thank you, and I apologize for all the misunderstanding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnnylanderos (talk • contribs) 15:35, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Taylor Stevens
[edit]Hello, Hack. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Taylor Stevens".
The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply {{db-afc}}

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Taylor Stevens}}

This is somewhat a technical question. A link which is available in every page's history section is not working from last many days, eg:https://tools.wmflabs.org/xtools-articleinfo/index.php?article=Jhansi&lang=en&wiki=wikipedia. midland
[edit]ok so midland was originally known as helena vale, but down the line there was a point where the area known as helena vale (not midland) was/is a separate location. I dont support the merge. JarrahTree 05:18, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- but if there is a good trove ref or somewhere else that proves I am wrong, please go ahead and merge - It's my suspicion there were 2 locations at some point with sep names and the whole thing can be confusing for punters unfamiliar with the localities and names and changes.... havent had a chance to check sources yet, cheers JarrahTree 10:36, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- The way I read it, Midland Junction (the locality) was founded in 1891 with Midland Junction railway station following a few years later. The municipality of Helena Vale was founded a year after the train station was built and was changed to Midland Junction because everyone just called it Midland Junction after the locality and train station. Midland Junction, the locality, became Midland, the suburb and Midland Junction, the municipality, became the Town of Mildand that was incorporated into the Shire of Swan. Hack (talk) 11:12, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, you have the sequence right - I just need to try find evidence there was a locality/usage for the eastern end of all that next to the scarp with the helena vale moniker in legit format (or not) as I lived in a suburb east of midland in the deep deep dark past, I have this niggling feeling there was more to it than the race course, the railway station and a few other things. Midvale article info as far as I can tell is probably sourced from landgate/dola/lands - the best trove source is the swan express or something or other it had brilliant gossip pages when it existed... will try to delve. JarrahTree 11:29, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- [Aerial Surveys Australia; HRRC (1987), Aerial photographs of Helena Vale, Western Australia, 25 March 1987 [picture], retrieved 29 June 2015] stuffed if i can get my orientation with that... JarrahTree 11:38, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Just a guess but is that north Swan View ie the future Stratton? Hack (talk) 11:41, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- could well be, I have left more details of sorts on the helena vale talk page, I wish I had all my material easily on hand, the whole bellevue, midvale, etc area is intriguing how much has been removed and destroyed of the older communities and their architecure, there is about one of the old workers cottages left on morrison road now near west midland shops, when i was young there was even the pub on the corner just across from the old west midland station... oh well, at least the midland library has a history librarian and collection, hope to get there in the next week or so JarrahTree 13:50, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Speedy deletion nomination of Sol Bellear
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Sol Bellear requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Smerus (talk) 07:07, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Red Line (Rio de Janeiro), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Avenida Brasil. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
