Origin of "chester cake"...

[edit]

... I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that Chester is involved. I'm struggling to find a good-quality source online, but apparently the Chester Courant reports such a cake in the early 19th century, if anyone has access to its archives, or online hearsay is good enough for the time being. Not 100% clear how similar the recipes might have been.

With regard to the similarity of fruit slices, would it be fair to say that the filling of gur/chester cake is a paste with some fruit, whereas fruit slices lack the cake and break crumbs, so have a lumpier-looking filling? 109.255.211.6 (talk) 01:18, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
