Request for Assistance: Page Renaming and Redirect Removal
Dear @GoingBatty,
I trust this message finds you well. My name is Leefort, and I am the original author of the Wikipedia page titled "Mohyed din". I extend my sincere appreciation for your valuable contribution on 10/01/2024.
I find myself encountering a challenge with the page that I have authored. I am seeking your assistance in restoring the page to its original name (Mohyeddin) and eliminating the associated redirect page.
The link to the redirect page in question is: Mohyeddin
To clarify the desired actions:
1. Please rename the page from “Mohyed din” to “Mohyeddin”.
2. Please remove the redirect page “Mohyeddin”
The objective is to have a singular page titled “Mohyeddin”.
Your support in addressing this issue would be highly appreciated, and I am confident that your expertise will contribute to the seamless resolution of this matter. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,

Unknown categories
Hey, I've edit some code in Module:WikiProject banner/sandbox so there won't be a need to create new unknown categories for each WikiProject template and the pages will end up in the parent Category:WikiProject templates with unknown parameters. Will your bot be able to work with that or does it actually need to the sub-categories? Gonnym (talk) 14:45, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonnym: Are you saying that all pages will be in the parent category, or only those pages without a subcategory will be in the parent category? The advantage of subcategories is the ability to find WikiProject-specific parameters where I need to add a WikiProject-specific rule to my bot. It will be nice to not have to add a new category for every WikiProject, and still have the ability to add one when needed to segregate one WikiProject from the rest of the WikiProjects. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 15:15, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- My change to the code would place pages that currently don't have a sub-category inside it. If it has one already, nothing will change. Gonnym (talk) 15:28, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonnym: Wonderful - thank you. GoingBatty (talk) 15:42, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonnym: Hi there! I only saw one page in the parent category, and now that's gone. Are you quickly resolving all the pages in the category, or is the module not working as expected? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:19, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- The code wasn't live at the time, but I've done so now. You should slowly see the category being populated. Gonnym (talk) 15:28, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Changing 'maths rating' to 'WikiProject Mathematics' is not urgent
BattyBot is running around changing every instance of {{maths rating}} to {{WikiProject Mathematics}}, to which it redirects, and sometimes also removing obsolete parameters from the template. For example special:diff/1195444429. This kind of change has no benefit to readers or editors and is adding a ton of clutter to watchlists, which is disruptive. You should wait until you have some kind of meaningful change to make to these pages before performing such edits. See WP:COSMETICBOT. –jacobolus (t) 23:01, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jacobolus: BattyBot is only changing {{maths rating}} to {{WikiProject Mathematics}} if it has another meaningful change to make, such as:
- If you see any edits where the bot is only changing the template name, please let me know. GoingBatty (talk) 23:54, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- There were formerly a few parameters used widely, but later removed. They now are no-ops: including them doesn't make any change to rendered output of the page. Removing these is fine enough if something else is being done, but doing it to every page all at once is a ton of watchlist clutter for no real benefit. It would be less disruptive if these changes could at the very wait for some other talk page change to piggyback on, e.g. waiting until a human starts a new discussion on the page then twiddling the banner parameters in an immediately following edit. –jacobolus (t) 23:59, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jacobolus: Removing the parameters also removes the page from Category:WikiProject templates with unknown parameters, so it does make a change to the rendered output of the page. I have the bot sorting the pages in alphabetical order, so as to mix up the WikiProjects it's impacting to reduce the watchlist impact. Once the bot gets the low-hanging fruit out of the way, it will be easier for editors to find and manually edit the remaining pages where parameter names are misspelled or have other issues. GoingBatty (talk) 00:13, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- No human reader or editor cares about the presence or absence of category though. Your bot is running on many talk pages that get a new discussion like once every 6 months with like 1 page view per week. People can have thousands of such pages on their watchlists, expecting them to have very low amounts of activity. If you suddenly come and edit every one on the same day, it creates a massive amount of pointless watchlist noise/spam. That's why I'd recommend piggybacking on some other edit: that would effectively drop the amount of extra noise to near zero, while still eventually accomplishing the same largely pointless goal of removing the page from some category nobody cares about. –jacobolus (t) 00:15, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

While you're at it, if BattyBot is going to be putting all of the wikiproject banners into the 'wikiproject banner shell', can you at the same time copy the "class" to the banner shell and out of the individual wikiproject banners? Otherwise some other bot is likely to come and do this in a separate step. As many of these maintenance banner changes as possible should handled in a single edit, so several passes don't need to be made through every page on the site. Maybe you can coordinate with User:Cewbot who is also doing a bunch of these watchlist-cluttering automatic banner twiddling edits? Ideally we'd have just one single bot tasked with this nonsense, so discussion about its timeline, behavior, bugs, etc. can be concentrated in a single place, and the disruption to humans can be minimized. –jacobolus (t) 23:21, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jacobolus: In User_talk:GoingBatty/Archive14#listas, I stated that "All my bots use AutoWikiBrowser... I don't know how I could configure it to look at multiple WikiProject class parameters and make determinations on what class parameter to populate in the banner." I don't see fixing/removing parameters in the scope of Cewbot 12. I will continue to engage in discussions on Template talk:WikiProject banner shell or other places as appropriate. GoingBatty (talk) 00:07, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe you two can coordinate to run the two bots back to back on the same pages then, to reduce noise? –jacobolus (t) 00:12, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jacobolus Intersting idea. @Kanashimi: How are you organizing the order in which Cewbot is working on pages? GoingBatty (talk) 00:15, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- I followed the `WikiProject_template_categories` listed in User:Cewbot/log/20200122/configuration, and after getting the templates in categories, I look for the embedded pages. Kanashimi (talk) 00:40, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- I can remove the deprecated parameters at the same time, so that the robots don't have to edit the same article. But I need the list of deprecated parameters. Kanashimi (talk) 00:44, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Kanashimi: There isn't an easy way to see all the deprecated or non-existent parameters for each WikiProject. The ones I've found for {{WikiProject Mathematics}} are
algebra, auto, bio, field, frequentlyviewed, geometry, historical, image-needed, living, math-nested, mathematician, needs-infobox, needs-photo, s&a-work-group, s&a priority, vital

- @Kanashimi: Great, thank you! I've removed the pages with {{WikiProject Mathematics}} from my bot's list for now. Eventually, I'll load Category:WikiProject templates with unknown parameters into the bot's list again, which will catch articles that your bot didn't. GoingBatty (talk) 01:29, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you You may add them at User:Cewbot/log/20200122/configuration, `deprecated_parameters`. Kanashimi (talk) 01:40, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Regarding a Wiki Page
Dear @GoingBatty, I've noticed that someone has moved the page to mainspace, specifically 90's - A Middle Class Biopic, which I had submitted for review. I'm curious about how anyone can make such a move, and I'm also wondering why this action wasn't reflected on my Talk page. Typically, when a reviewer accepts or declines an article, the outcome is automatically displayed on the Talk page.
Could you provide some clarification on this matter? Thank you. Milli's Boy (talk) 06:26, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

- The draft states "In September 2023, filming for Geethanjali Malli Vachindhi kicked off in Hyderabad, covering 80% of Principal photography". However, reference #10 doesn't seem to mention that the filming occurred in September or was done in Hyderabad.

Some weirdness in a BattyBot edit
Not entirely sure what happened here, but it seems as though BattyBot has added a WikiProject Lepidoptera banner that wasn't there prior to its edit (and doesn't seem to belong). Could be I'm misunderstanding or overlooking something, of course, but figured I'd check.AddWittyNameHere 20:16, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @AddWittyNameHere: Hi there! Thank you for letting me know about this issue. Here's what I discovered:
- For talk page tasks, BattyBot uses the AWB custom module User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects to expand WikiProject redirects.
- The original 2011 version of User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects was designed to convert {{WPL}} to {{WikiProject Lepidoptera}}.
- The current {{WPL}} was created in April 2017 and redirects to Template:Wikidata property link.
- The public logs show that {{WPL}} was previously deleted in April 2013.
- Therefore, I presume that {{WPL}} used to be a redirect to {{WikiProject Lepidoptera}}, and when the redirect was deleted, the module was not updated.
- Talk:Cristina García Rodero contained {{WPL}}, which was added by MsWalders in this edit in June 2023. (Based on the user's previous edit, maybe the user meant to add {{BLP}}?)
- In the edit you provided, BattyBot incorrectly changed {{WPL}} to {{WikiProject Lepidoptera}}.
- In the next edit to the page, you correctly removed {{WikiProject Lepidoptera}}.
- Based on your kind report, here's what I'm doing:
- Changed the {{WikiProject Lepidoptera}} rule on User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects in this edit.
- Confirmed that no other talk pages contain {{WPL}} per Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:WPL.

New message to GoingBatty
Hey there! A Teahouse hosting question: I did the right thing here, right? Usually I would also leave a talk page message, but I'm afraid it would be counterproductive in this specific case. Thank you in advance! Remsense诉 03:36, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Remsense: I think the original question and the response from Anachronist were reasonable. It's only the "unfortunate" follow-up by the original poster that is troublesome. Admins can revdel an offending post so it's not visible in the history. GoingBatty (talk) 03:43, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- That is true, but given that the original question's scope was made to be unreasonable, it followed for me that reasonable answers for the OP would not be possible, and it would inevitably become an issue one way or another. — Remsense诉 03:45, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

WP GOCE
In User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects, it seems {{GOCE}} is being "corrected" backwardly, to a redirect rather than the current full name, which appears to be {{WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors}}. Or am I missing something? Stefen Towers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 07:24, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- @StefenTower: You are correct. I made that change in this edit per the discussion here to prevent AutoWikiBrowser's talk page general fixes from adding {{WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors}} into {{WikiProject banner shell}}. I then have a find/replace rule in AWB that will change {{GOCE}} to {{WikiProject banner shell}} after the general fixes. GoingBatty (talk) 14:56, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. I don't see {{GOCE}} being taken out of the banner shell, just that it's the result after renaming. Also, if {{GOCE}} is changed to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, wouldn't that cause a problem if there's a shell already present? Stefen Towers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 18:40, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- @StefenTower: AWB adds the shell when there are three or more templates that start with "WikiProject". AWB also moves templates that start with "WikiProject" into an existing shell. AWB does not remove {{GOCE}} from the shell or remove the shell. GoingBatty (talk) 01:50, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

- @StefenTower: OK - you can do one of several things:
- Add a Find and Replace rule to find
{{GOCE|
and replace{{WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors|
and check the "After fixes" and "Enabled" boxes (if you don't want the template added into {{WikiProject banner shell}}) - Change the module in your AWB settings for that rule from
"{{GOCE$2"
to"{{WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors$2"
(if you DO want the template added into {{WikiProject banner shell}}) - Remove the rule from the module in your AWB settings (if you don't want to fiddle with the template at all).
- Add a Find and Replace rule to find
- Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 02:35, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

How do I create a wikipedia page --User242424 (talk) 16:33, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- @User242424: Hi there! Creating a new Wikipedia article can be quite challenging, especially if you do not have a lot of experience editing existing Wikipedia articles. To learn how to edit, I suggest you start at Help:Introduction, and then spend a significant amount of time editing existing articles to hone your skills. Once you're ready to create an article, you would gather multiple independent reliable sources that have provided significant coverage of the subject, and determine whether it meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, you could follow the instructions at Help:Your first article and summarize what the sources have published, and be prepared for a process that may include waiting for review, declines, and rewrites before an article is accepted. - @Nirva20: Sorry for your loss. To be on the safe side, I suggest declaring your conflict of interest on your user page before editing it again. In this edit, it appears you did two things:
- Added "Survivors included her two daughters", which was part of the Hollywood Reporter source.
- Changed "Jack Taylor" to "Jack Elmer Taylor (m. 1968)". The year is also in the Hollywood Reporter source, but not "Elmer". I didn't check the other sources.
- While there are a lot of things you know about your family, Wikipedia articles are based on reliable published sources, such as those at the bottom of the article about her. If you have other sources to share, you may do so on the article's talk page: Talk:Ruth Ashton Taylor. GoingBatty (talk) 22:23, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Threestoogesarefunny (00:56, 24 January 2024)
How do I create an article? --Threestoogesarefunny (talk) 00:56, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Threestoogesarefunny: Hi there! I agree with your username! Creating a new Wikipedia article can be quite challenging, especially if you do not have a lot of experience editing existing Wikipedia articles. To learn how to edit, I suggest you start at Help:Introduction, and then spend a significant amount of time editing existing articles to learn about Wikipedia. (For example, I just reverted your edits to the Shemp Howard article per the instructions at Template:Infobox person.) Once you're ready to create an article, you would gather multiple independent reliable sources that have provided significant coverage of the subject, and determine whether it meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, you could follow the instructions at Help:Your first article and summarize what the sources have published, and be prepared for a process that may include waiting for review, declines, and rewrites before an article is accepted. Can you leave the "project shell" conversion to Cewbot and Qwerfjkl (bot)
These two bots are already wrapping all of the wikiproject banners in the banner shell and consolidating the ratings. If BattyBot makes an edit like special:diff/1198608787 one of these other bots is going to come by later and move the "start" rating from the wikiproject banners into the banner shell. It would be easiest if we have as few bots as possible trying to do this enormous project, to minimize disruption and so complaints about their behavior can be centralized, they don't step on each-others toes, etc. These bots are also using the tag "#talk banner shell conversion" and marking these edits as minor, to help people filter such edits from their watchlists, and are presumably fixing whatever bugs arise in their process. –jacobolus (t) 16:45, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Brandheadway (08:26, 25 January 2024)
Hello, If I create a wiki page for a brand or a personality, how long does it get published. --Brandheadway (talk) 08:26, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Brandheadway: Welcome to Wikipedia! When you follow the process at Help:Your first article, you'll make a draft and submit it for review. Reviewers are volunteers, just like all Wikipedia editors. Depending on how many drafts are waiting for review, this could take days or even months. Do a great job with the draft and it becomes an article. However, many people who do not have significant experience with Wikipedia write promotional drafts and/or drafts based on their own knowledge, and have their drafts declined until further work is done.

Robert E (Bob) Bourke
In late November we communicated about a draft I tried to submit entitled "Robert E. (Bob) Bourke". It was not formally submitted, and you suggested I make more specific the footnotes for ease of reviewing. I've done that but cannot figure out how to locate the draft I prepared earlier. Nor can I pull up our earlier thread, where the draft was embedded. Can you send me our earlier thread or let me know how to pull up the draft I prepared in November? Thank you! Legendt9455 (talk) 22:22, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Hi again, I located our old thread and made the relevant footnote insertions within the paragraphs in the draft. I could not find any way to "save the edits" so I clicked on "submit the draft for review" and a box appears with "template" in the upper left corner. It contains some information about how the template has no description (maybe the tags?). What do I need to do to submit the revised draft for review? Also, is there an easier way to pull up this draft without locating our old thread? Thank you! Legendt9455 (talk) 23:16, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Legendt9455: I found the draft at Draft:Robert E. Bourke Jr. by looking in your User contributions. To find the draft, you can do one of the following:
- Go to the Wikipedia "Tools" menu and click "User contributions", and then click on the draft.
- Click on the person icon at the top right of any Wikipedia page and click "Contributions", and then click on the draft.
- Type "Draft:Robert E. Bourke Jr." in the Wikipedia search bar on the top of any page.
- Create a bookmark in your browser.
- To "save the edits", click the blue "Publish changes" button. After you have created the footnotes properly, you can submit the revised draft for review by clicking the blue "Submit the drat for review!" button. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:16, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, just successfully submitted for review! Understand it will take awhile to get initial feedback. Legendt9455 (talk) 17:08, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Abiodun Essiet Page
Hello GoingBatty,
Thanks for making correction to my page. What next after this correction, how mine expecting further acttion for acceptance of the page?
Regards. Abiodunessiet (talk) 08:55, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Abiodunessiet Hi there! WP:AUTO explains that Wikipedia strongly discourages autobiographies. Creating a new Wikipedia article can be quite challenging, especially when you have a conflict of interest (COI). You should first gather multiple published independent reliable sources that have provided significant coverage of you, and determine whether they demonstrate that you meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, you must declare your COI on your user page. Then follow the instructions at Help:Your first article and summarize what the sources have published, and be prepared for a process that may include months of waiting for review, declines, and rewrites, before an article is accepted. If you are successful, then you could never edit the article directly due to your COI, but could submit edit requests on the article talk page.
- I have added a submission template at the top of Draft:Abiodun Essiet for you to enable you to submit the draft for review. However, the draft is not ready for review. I removed all the references to Wikipedia articles per WP:CIRCULAR, as well as doing some copyediting. The Google Search reference is not appropriate, and the reference to your own web site doesn't help with notability. The external links in the draft should be removed, and replaced with references if appropriate. Each piece of information needs a reference, including the awards and membership. Hope this helps. GoingBatty (talk) 14:12, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the guide, i will rewok as guided and resubmit. Abiodunessiet (talk) 17:58, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
Need direct answer
Hi good day, I have a question regarding category because their is someone here who deleted some of category I put in my article and his reason the categories is to much and redundant...but I think the more categories the better and since the categories I tag was very relevant & related to the article and they are legit existed and they were created a long time ago...my point is is it ok to have so many categories in an article which is related to the topic or not?? Thanks.Rc ramz (talk) 08:53, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

- user:CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath Rc ramz (talk) 15:23, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Rc ramz: Look at the source of the article after your last edit, and you'll see that Category:2017 beauty pageants, Category:Male beauty pageants, and Category:International beauty pageants were actually listed twice, which is "Category duplication". The other editor correctly changed the article so each category is only listed exactly once. If you look at the Mister Grand International article, you'll see it's still categorized in Category:2017 beauty pageants, Category:Male beauty pageants, and Category:International beauty pageants.
- In the future, if you have a question about someone's edit, the best course of action would be to discuss it on the article's talk page or the user's talk page. See Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle for more info. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:30, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

When you have a reliable published source, you may add a request on the article talk page (e.g. Talk:Jeff Bourns) with the {{edit COI}} template, and someone will make the edit for you.

BattyBot unhelpful date fix
I note that the generally very helpful BattyBot seems to have unhelpfully edited at least one template:Afd-merge to while applying fixes. The edit of concern was this one, where a correctly-displaying October-dated AfD-template was switched to a December date. That is, the October data was correctly displaying here, but after the bot edit has slipped 2-months later to this. Klbrain (talk) 15:20, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Klbrain: Thank you for letting me know about this issue. I've read the template documentation and agree with your concern. Therefore, I have done the following:
- Removed the incorrect date from {{Afd-merge from}} in the Guardian Life Magazine article
- Removed {{Afd-merge from}} and {{Afd-merge to}} from Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Dated templates, so AWB bots or users will no longer add dates to those templates
- I confirmed there are no articles with {{Afd-merge from}}
- I checked each article with {{Afd-merge to}} and fixed those that had similar issues.
- Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 20:41, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for that speedy fix! Not that {{Afd-merge from}} is only used on talk pages rather than in article space, which is perhaps why your search revealed no use. Klbrain (talk) 23:32, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Klbrain: Thanks for the heads up. Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Dated templates says that those rules do not work on talk pages, so I didn't check talk pages for inaccurate dating. However, if you find any made by me or my bot, please let me know. GoingBatty (talk) 00:20, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

Issues with editing to page Jeff Bourns
@GoingBatty I could use some guidance as to what the code has been to update information to which I received a notice for. I have not been able to access information or be a contributor as much since September or October of this year. I had a recent medical procedure in which has put me in the hospital several times. Could you please in laymen’s terms tell me the steps needed to take so a form can be submitted. I thought everything is correct. Thanks for your time. I am concerned I am being directly attacked by individuals looking to alter a narrative without sourced information. Thanks ZnYddRoll (talk) 19:39, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- @ZnYddRoll: Please send me a link to the notice you received. I believe I answered your other request below. GoingBatty (talk) 04:59, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Unable to reply
@GoingBattyuna le to reply to you as the username has been blocked temporarily all of a sudden. In the reply marks it says user prefers to use a ping back response in responding to questions. Do now know how to respond back. Information containing birth certificate information was suggested to be sent to areas for proper sourced info. The region listed is just under litigation against DuPont for PFAS or C8. An active litigation case dated back twenty years. Have currently been not able to help edit to Wikipedia due to health reasons. Not sure how to contact you directly . Thanks ZnYddRoll (talk) 05:08, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- @ZnYddRoll: In your successful reply to me you say that you're unable to reply to me? That's confusing. Are you saying that your username was blocked and you're now using a different username to talk with me? That would be block evasion, which is not allowed. If your username was blocked, there are instructions on that user talk page stating how to request to be unblocked. Let's deal with that before discussing anything else. Yitzchak Mirilashvili request
Hello GoingBatty. I'm reaching out to you to ask for your assistance in implementing the pending edit request I posted on Yitzchak Mirilashvili's Talk page. There is a lot of information there that has nothing to do with Mirilashvili himself, the language is not-NPOV (suggesting that making charitable donations is a crime), and does not include the fact that Mirilashvili was found to have done nothing wrong. Your recent editing of other individuals listed in the Category:Billionaires_from_Georgia_(country) was substantive and helpful; I would appreciate your assistance on this matter. Thank you, January2424 (talk) 12:19, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- @January2424: Hi there! I cannot read Hebrew, so I will not be reviewing the sources to determine whether your edit request should be implemented. However, I will make some minor fixes to the article for you. GoingBatty (talk) 16:10, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank You for Your Edits on The Plutonium Actor
Hi GoingBatty,
I just wanted to thank you for the latest modifications to the Draft:Troy Bronson 2024. Your efforts to update references and copyedit have significantly increased the article's quality. It's great to see such helpful contributions, and I really appreciate your attention to detail and commitment to improve Wikipedia's content. Your Editor of the Week award and induction into the Disambiguator Hall of Fame, among numerous other accomplishments look awesome!
Given your skill and experience, specifically your role in reviewing and editing, I was wondering if you could provide any more comments to ensure it fulfills Wikipedia's standards. Your insights would be beneficial to me, especially given your expertise with AutoWikiBrowser; what I'm trying to convey is that I've learnt a lot simply by reading your portfolio!
Here's the link to the draft: Draft:Troy Bronson 2024
I believe your feedback would be really helpful. Thank you for considering my request!
EagleSleuth~~~~ EagleSleuth (talk) 06:36, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- @EagleSleuth: There are maybe two sources in the draft that are independent (i.e. not interviews) and provide significant coverage of Bronson. There are several sources about "Fancy" that don't mention him at all. It may be WP:TOOSOON to have an article about him. GoingBatty (talk) 06:55, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- @GoingBatty With this in mind, I'm writing to offer the Draft:Troy Bronson 2024 and its talk page debate, where I've sought to clearly highlight the subject's importance. I'd be glad for any ideas or input you can provide on the notability issue. Your knowledge and viewpoint would be invaluable! EagleSleuth (talk) 21:37, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

Im going to edit to restore the coats of arms on the articles of the templates of Foreign relations of China and Foreign relations of India. --OBJ the man (talk) 07:56, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- @OBJ the man: Hi there! I don't know why you're telling me about your intent to restore the coats of arms to Template:Foreign relations of China and Template:Foreign relations of India. I see that there was some edit warring about the coat of arms on Template:Foreign relations of China, and another person suggested discussion at Template talk:Foreign relations of China. Please review the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, and be prepared that your edits might be reverted, and that your next steps would be to discuss on the template's talk page. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 21:48, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

I don't know if Moritz and Moshe are the same person or not. I suggest you post your question on Talk:Spitzer Manuscript, and you include links to the results of your web search. I also suggest you post on Talk:Moshe Spitzer with a link to your question on Talk:Spitzer Manuscript, so there's one consolidated place for discussion of your question. Eric Brian Hughes
Hello. I have created numerous articles here on Wikipedia. And I noticed you have generously contributed to this one as well. There is an aggressive user - Ldavid1985, who nominated it for deletion, and seems to have a grudge of some sort. Can you help me handle this? I don't interact with many other contributors, if rarely at all. Can you put a lock on him (her) for doing such activity....or at least point me in the right direction? The article has been there for over 8 years. Thank you kindly Bluechip18 (talk) 17:46, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Bluechip18: Hi there! In the deletion nomination for the Eric Brian Hughes article, Ldavid1985 wrote "The subject of this article is not of any notability. As a filmmaker, none of his films are notable, so how can a person who has made non-notable films be notable for filmmaking? The article's creation suggests that it was done so by either the subject of the article itself or those close to the subject. It comes off as shameless self-promotion and a vanity page, violating Wikipedia guidelines." I don't see anything in this statement that indicates a grudge.
- Do you believe that the article meets the basic criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (people)? Looking at everything in the references section, I don't see multiple independent sources that provide significant coverage of Hughes. Note that interviews and press materials are not independent sources. One way to deal with this issue is to provide better sources. Maybe some of those external links could be used as sources? (I didn't look at them.)
- I'm not an administrator that can block a user. Even if I was, I would not take any action, because their action seems to have been done in good faith.
- Also, while it's appropriate to add ~~~~ to talk page posts to automatically add your signature, doing so in your edit summaries doesn't do anything special. Instead, provide an explanation for the edit you're making. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:33, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- But my sole point is, their comment "The subject of this article is not of any notability. As a filmmaker, none of his films are notable, so how can a person who has made non-notable films be notable for filmmaking?" is purely subjective. Surely I can go on and fix the page, and include better links, etc. But never have I had a page that I edited be nominated for deletion solely based on someones opinion. May I present to you an example of another filmmaker - Kyle Schickner : (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Schickner) Schickner is lesser known than Hughes, hasn't made a film in years. To ME, Schickner's page looks like it was written by either Schickner or a person associated with him. I am merely using this as an example, and why wasn't his page nominated for deletion? See my point? Bluechip18 (talk) 05:29, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Bluechip18: My guess is that "none of his films are notable" mean "none of his films would meet the inclusion criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (films)", which would be an objective (not subjective) statement. Deletion nominations start with someone stating their opinion, usually that the subject article doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. Deletion discussions sometimes have other editors agree, and sometimes have other editors disagree.
- The Kyle Schickner article includes links to films that have Wikipedia articles, so maybe they're notable and maybe he's notable. While creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged, it isn't disallowed - see WP:AUTO. Orson Welles hasn't made a film in years either, but recent work isn't one of the notability criteria. There are thousands of articles that don't meet the current notability standards - see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Feel free to improve the articles, nominate them for deletion if warranted, or ignore them. GoingBatty (talk) 05:46, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

- @Ovenly Furnace: It seems that you could add a few sentences and references to Star Wars: Battlefront#Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection instead of starting a new article. Be bold and make the updates, and discuss on the talk page if your edits are reverted.
- I suggest making the following tweaks:
- Since references 4 and 5 go to the same article, you can used named references to reuse a reference instead of having two separate references.
- Fix the
|first=
and|last=
fields for each reference - Use italics for the video game titles
- Don't link the same word multiple times (e.g. you have four links to Steam)
- Use "its" instead of "it's" per https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/when-to-use-its-vs-its
- Use "could not" instead of "couldn't"

Changing volume to number broke citation template
In Special:Diff/1215589074 the bot changed |volume=no. 2
to |number=2
in a citation template that already had |issue=126
. This caused a broken citation because now it had both number and issue, redundant. In this case it turns out that the volume is 126 and the issue is 2, but regardless, this bot should not be taking working citation templates with mixed-up metadata and turning them into broken citation templates. —David Eppstein (talk) 01:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- @David Eppstein: Thank you for letting me know and for fixing the article. I've updated my bot accordingly. GoingBatty (talk) 01:56, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- @GoingBatty A similar thing happened at special:diff/1215342462. This is one where the journal includes only an issue number, but not a volume number. I found the rendering when just the 'number' parameter is used without a 'volume' to be pretty confusing (the issue number gets put in parentheses). I changed the template to just
volume=194
, but arguably the rendering might be clearer when the template hasvolume=No. 194
in this example. –jacobolus (t) 03:55, 27 March 2024 (UTC)- @Jacobolus: Hi there! In case it wasn't clear, the point of the edit is that

Question from Hi lol higgg (23:47, 2 April 2024)
hi --Hi lol higgg (talk) 23:47, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Hi lol higgg: Hi there! What's your question? GoingBatty (talk) 23:57, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
I saw ur comment on my draft
Hi....Uhm...I saw your comment and I was wondering why you suggest that I would abandon it, and bc there is already an article about KMXF, I might follow your suggestion and I will abandon it, and maybe start a new article, thx. Starixxgamerrix (talk) 18:01, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Starixxgamerrix: Hi there! Since Wikipedia is not going to have two articles about the same radio station, it's unlikely your draft will be approved. Instead, I think you would be more successful updating the KMXF article based on published reliable sources. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:06, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
Question
Good day to you, I am currently in an edit war with another user over nicknames. Can you help me out and try to solve this. You can check the context of the situation on my contribution history with the following pages : Alex Pereira, Jailton Almeida, and Deiveson Figueiredo. I am relatively new to editing and am aware that I may make mistakes, so any help and advice is welcome. Articlread (talk) 06:49, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Articlread: Hi there! Part of the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle is the discussion that should happen when editors have disagreements about article content. I looked at the talk pages for these three articles and didn't see any discussion related to this issue. Where are you discussing this with your fellow editors? GoingBatty (talk) 01:21, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hes not. He just decided he was right about an established practice and decided to double down on it after I reverted it. Nswix (talk) 19:34, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Nswix it’s not about me or you, it’s about the context of the matter. The nicknames are not supposed to be translated because they are meant to be said in the way they were chosen by their fighters and there is no source proving your translations are even true. Cassiopeia thanked me after I removed the unnecessary translations and I think we can work on reaching a consensus on the topic. Wikipedia isn’t about our egos and emotions. Let’s not get caught up and find a solution. Articlread (talk) 20:16, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Executiverestoration (08:46, 20 April 2024)
I am new to Wikipedia . Are there any special things I need to do to get started writing articles? Thank you, David Snell Executive Restoration --Executiverestoration (talk) 08:46, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Executiverestoration: Hi Davia, and thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, you're not going to like my answers.
- Having a user name that is the same as your company goes against the Wikipedia:Username policy - see WP:CORPNAME.
- Wikipedia is not the place to promote your company - see WP:NOTPROMO.
- Writing an article about your own company is not encouraged due to the inherent conflict of interest - see WP:PSCOI.
- In order for an article about a company to be accepted, it would have to meet Wikipedia's guidelines for inclusion, called "notability" - see WP:ORGCRIT.
- I presume this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I hope this prevents you from wasting time on an article that might not be accepted, and you would not be able to own going forward. However, if you would like to edit other articles where you do not have a conflict of interest, a good place to start is Help:Introduction. I recommend that everyone make small improvements to existing articles to learn the ropes before diving in on the much harder task to create a new article. How long does the info have to be if I add a new page? For reference I made the ti 85 cord page. --Ppeeaannuuttbbuutteerr (talk) 19:40, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Ppeeaannuuttbbuutteerr: Hi there! I see you have written one sentence on User:Ppeeaannuuttbbuutteerr/sandbox. Articles should be written based on multiple published reliable sources that provide significant coverage about the product, so you should be able to write additional sentences based on those sources. If one sentence is all you can provide, maybe the information about the cord should be added to the TI-85 article instead. For more information about writing an article, see Help:Your first article. I need help with my article
Hi @GoingBatty
I found your site and as a newbie to Wikipedia editing it's super impressive what you've already done here!
For my first article, I thought it would be easiest to take an existing article in my native language (German), translate it, and add additional information. I wrote about Nanoscribe. In case you did not hear about them yet, they make 3D laser microprinters. I made some mistakes at the beginning and didn't realize some problems with citations. But I think I have that pretty well fixed now. I submitted it for review and I've been waiting for several weeks for someone to review it. Could you help me with this? As a newbie, if there are still problems with the article, I would be happy to get your tips :)
Greetings from 3DmicroPrintExpert (talk) 09:21, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- @3DmicroPrintExpert: Hi there! I took a look at Draft:Nanoscribe. You seem to have lots of references to support the draft. I have made some updates to the reference for you. While you're waiting for a review, you can continue updating the references, including changing {{cite web}} to {{cite press release}} for each press release and tweak the parameters. (Some sources are easy to see are press releases, while others could be press releases published as "News" by other web sites.) You could also add
|language=
and|trans-title=
for every reference that is not in English. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:50, 24 May 2024 (UTC)- Hi @GoingBatty thank you so much for your help and recommendation. I wasn't aware that I should cite press releases in another category! Will definitely go through all the sources again!

Question from Qurratulain Mansoor (21:31, 29 May 2024)
Hi I want to create my wikipedia --Qurratulain Mansoor (talk) 21:31, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Qurratulain Mansoor: Hi there! GoingBatty (talk) 22:02, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from DrunkenHeHaw on Draft:Chris Link (18:06, 6 June 2024)
hello, I appreciate your help, I have created a draft and now I'm very confused on how to submit it. When clicking on "Publish" it gives me an error code --DrunkenHeHaw (talk) 18:06, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- @DrunkenHeHaw - It looks like you have since figured out how to submit the draft for review. If you haven't done so already, I suggest you review WP:NMUSICIAN. At first glance, I'm not sure Link or The Deer Run Drifters meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for the inclusion of musicians. GoingBatty (talk) 21:28, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from KerryREPORTERSanders (18:34, 17 June 2024)
I'm a longtime NBC News correspondent (and there is a page about me). One of my longtime colleagues who was NOT on camera, but is a cameraman/producer, who has been a part of not only significant news coverage, but helped developed what's now more commonly known as "backpack journalism" deserves a notation. He's won important journalism awards, and like so many (but not me) has written (years ago) a light hearted book about his experiences. Would he deserve a page/is he notable? He certainly is to me and his work now with National Geographic etc would seem worthy. Thanks for your advice/guidance. Cheers --KerryREPORTERSanders (talk) 18:34, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- @KerryREPORTERSanders: Hi there! Wikipedia's definition of notable people as those who "have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject." For more details, please see WP:NBASIC. The article about you could use some additional secondary sources. If you are aware of any that can be used, feel free to suggest them at Talk:Kerry Sanders. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 19:41, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi. I found a reference error in an article. How do I go about changing that? Thanks. --Unovic (talk) 00:30, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Unovic: I would go to the article, click "Edit source" at the top right of the page, find the incorrect reference, fix it, type an explanation of the change in the Edit summary field, and then click the "Publish changes" button at the bottom left of the page. If you like, you could also ask for help on the article's talk page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 13:03, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

- @Haitamhaitam0001: Hi there! I suggest following the directions in Help:Your first article. While a page in your personal sandbox or a draft article are visible to everyone, they won't be indexed by search engines. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 23:47, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

how to make a new Wikipedia post? --GemStar4071 (talk) 16:43, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- @GemStar4071 Hi there! I presume you're asking how to create a new Wikipedia article. - @Haitamhaitam0001: Hi again! If you did not create the image, or if you are unable or unwilling to verify its copyright status, do not upload the image." Would you like to share information about the image? Question from Yungdab (01:06, 29 June 2024)
Hi mentor! I just made a few corrections to a chart on a page, and accidentally submitted them without properly explaining what exactly I changed... I did not expect my enter key to automatically publish my edit, whoopsie! Is there some way I can edit my edit to add the details? Or should I not be too worried about this? Thank you!!! :] --Yungdab (talk) 01:06, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Yungdab: Hi there! We've all accidentally published an edit without finishing the edit summary. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to change the edit summary later. In this edit I think your partial edit summary will give readers enough to understand your intent. Help:Edit summary#Fixing suggests "If you make an important omission or error in an edit summary, you can correct this by making a dummy edit (a change in the page with no visible effects), and adding further information in the dummy edit's summary." Question from No1Senster (13:25, 3 July 2024)
Hi, I tried to edit the PVD page yesterday (19 hours ago) but now I am unable to see the reflection of that edit on Wikipedia. Why so? --No1Senster (talk) 13:25, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- @No1Senster: Hi there! According to your contributions, I see you're referring to the Physical vapor deposition article. Note that your contributions show that your edit was reverted, which means it was undone. Looking at the history of the article, we can see who reverted your edit and when, and see that they gave the reason for the reversion as "Thank you for the good faith edit. This has no sources and is not written to Wikipedia's requirements. removing for now."
- Reversions are a common part of the Wikipedia experience. Per the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle page, you may wish to discuss your desired addition at the article's talk page: Talk:Physical vapor deposition. I see your edit does include some sources, but they're listed as external links instead of references. You may enjoy watching the video at WP:EASYREFBEGIN to learn how to create proper references. I also added a welcome message to your talk page with links to other helpful materials.
- Don't let the reversion dissuade you from further editing. Wikipedia is a collaborative environment, and sometimes takes discussion with other editors to come up with consensus on what should be included in an article. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:47, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that helps a lot. Thankyou GoingBatty No1Senster (talk) 18:50, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

- @SakuraSmart: Hi there! I'm not sure I understand your questions. Where did you see my comments? Could you please give me an example of a "redirect article" that you want to bring to the "active forum"? There are some bots that revert vandalism automatically. You could ask the bot owners how they work. GoingBatty (talk) 17:40, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- I was reading Discography of Vachirawit, you mentioned post review that topic Adolescent is redirect. Thus, what are procedure policy to make it normal Wiki page SakuraSmart (talk) 07:49, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- @SakuraSmart: Oh, I had to review your contributions to see you're referring to the Bright Vachirawit Chivaaree discography article. In this edit, I removed the link to Adolescent (mini album) because it's a redirect to Vachirawit Chivaaree. Therefore, I believe your question is how to change Adolescent (mini album) into an article about the album. Looking at the history of the page, I see it used to be an article before it was changed into a redirect.
- You would gather multiple independent reliable sources that have provided significant coverage of the album, and determine whether it meets Wikipedia's criteria for the inclusion of albums, called "notability". If so, you could follow the instructions at Help:Your first article and summarize what the sources have published, and be prepared for a process that may include waiting for review, declines, and rewrites before an article is accepted. Presidency Navigation Templates vs. Biography Navigation Templates discussion
Hello, GoingBatty! Considering your recent edit to the Presidency of Ronald Reagan navigation template that I created, would you mind leaving a comment at a WikiProject United States Presidents talk page discussion about that template and the others that I created for the presidencies of Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush? Another editor and myself disagree about whether there should be a separate navigation template for each Presidency apart from the biographical navigation template. Thanks! -- CommonKnowledgeCreator (talk) 03:13, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- @CommonKnowledgeCreator: Hi there! I only removed some blank lines from the template because the extra space between templates looked odd on whatever article I was viewing at the time. I then noticed the template didn't have a talk page, so I added some WikiProject templates. I hope you'll make similar edits to the other templates you've created. While I like that you're willing to have a conversation about the templates based on some feedback you received, I'd rather not argue for or against the use of the templates. Happy editing! Question from D7g8d (14:44, 30 July 2024)
Hello. After many weeks of waiting, my submission Draft:Mont-Avalanche (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Mont-Avalanche) was again declined twice over the last two days as allegedly being "not adequately supported by reliable sources." I very strongly disagree, and the reviewer provided no specific detail, comment or suggestion. My submission is about a local ski resort, and there is no article about it in the New York Times or in the Washington Post. This mountain and ski resort do exist. I believe that my numerous sources, which include the government of Quebec, local government web sites and local newspapers, are reliable and adequate. Now, it appears that if I cannot provide at least one reference to one source marked as "generally reliable" from the list found in Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources), my article will never be accepted. Is it the case? My article is relatively short, but I invested a lot of time understanding how Wikipedia works and how to include content, such as pictures. How can I save all this work and have my article accepted? --D7g8d (talk) 14:44, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
- @D7g8d: I see that the reviewer did not provide any specific suggestions. Did you try reaching out to them to ask for suggestions? There is no such rule that an article must contain a reference from the list of perennial sources. The article should be based on what independent reliable sources have written about the topic. Which sources are local newspapers? Your work has been saved at Draft:Mont-Avalanche, and will be there until it becomes an article or for six months after the last edit. CFA noted that your draft could be notable. Have you tried reaching out to them? Good luck with your draft! GoingBatty (talk) 03:55, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from CakeyWiki on Languages of Vietnam (16:27, 12 August 2024)
Hi I am trying to create the page of languages of Vietnam, how do I create one of those boxes with the languages and the status of if it's official in other pages such as languages of kazakhstan --CakeyWiki (talk) 16:27, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- @CakeyWiki: I looked at the source of Languages of Kazakhstan and see that it uses Template:Infobox country languages. Since Languages of Vietnam is now a redirect, you can copy the template into Draft:Languages of Vietnam if you choose to continue trying to create an article. Happy editing! Question from Evibeforpoli (15:35, 23 August 2024)
I've been dealing with an editor who has been dismissive and condescending, accusing me of lying and even calling association football a "silly game." They insist that a tiebreaker must always involve additional gameplay, despite the lack of clear evidence supporting this. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:United_States_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics&diff=prev&oldid=1241789728
The Oxford dictionary defines a tiebreaker as "a means of deciding a winner out of two or more contestants who have tied," without specifying that extra gameplay is necessary. https://www.oed.com/search/dictionary/?scope=Entries&q=tiebreaker
Established sports like golf and FIFA football use ranking-based tiebreakers without additional play, yet this editor dismisses the FIFA valid example that disproves his rigid view, in a abrasive manner, that makes me not want to reason with them further if they can't discuss respectfully. https://www.fifa.com/en/articles/world-cup-qatar-2022-tiebreakers-group-stage-last-16-goal-difference-goals-scored-cards
This situation feels like more than merely a content disagreement—it's becoming increasingly frustrating and unproductive. I'm seeking help from a neutral party or mentor to resolve this issue fairly. Your help would be greatly appreciated. --Evibeforpoli (talk) 15:35, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Evibeforpoli: Hi there! I see some other editors jumped in, so I won't participate in the discussion. I skimmed the discussion, and agree that the goal of the discussion should be to come to a consensus on the wording of the article. Instead of citing the OED or FIFA, I suggest using reliable sources that refer specifically to the United States at the 2024 Olympics. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 14:44, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I hope it's not too much trouble to ask one more question where I could really use wise experienced insight. You know the movie when a team of ethnic Mexican golfers beat some white kids in the 50s, this was also when the Texas golf club suddenly decided not to host an award ceremony for that particular year.[2] And that was obviously petty and biased and people notice what is too obvious and remember that odd break from pattern.
- Similarly, when China for the first time tied with USA on gold medals for this year's Olympics. I get that certain people really despise to see that being acknowledged and don't want it be mentioned in lead at all.[3] But in the past 5 Olympic articles from 2004 to 2020, we have always consistently shown the top 3 medal winning countries. To suddenly go out of their way to make a new change for this year and break from pattern and only show the top country and not the second or third place country, would be noticeable and people will question why. This Olympics is special where for the first time, USA tied with China on golds and some unhappy editors wants to find any excuse to remove this completely from lead. But the way they are going about it, is obviously wrong and phony.
- I really prefer not to discuss with them at lengths as i don't see the discussion going anywhere. But what rule did they violate? Are they removing info just because they don't like it or against wp:MOS. How do I best address them efficiently? Evibeforpoli (talk) 17:50, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Evibeforpoli: I'm not familiar with the golf film. Although I haven't read the entire talk page discussion, here is my generic suggestion for any talk page discussion:
- Keep it brief. For some reason, the longer the post, the less likely people will be to read it.
- Assume good faith - Focus on the content of the article, and don't speculate on the motives why other editors may be making changes.
- Suggest the exact text you want in the article, including references to published reliable sources.
- Briefly explain why you think your suggestion is preferable. (e.g. consistency with similar articles)
- You can ask for assistance from WikiProjects (e.g. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Olympics, but keep the request neutral (e.g. Your participation in the discussion at Talk:United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics#Tiebreaker definiton would be appreciated.)
- Your idea won't always be the one that everyone else agrees upon. There are plenty of other ways to improve Wikipedia.
- Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 18:36, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Draft:Praeterintention
hi. Can you check if there is anything else to correct on the form?: the content is 100% correct. regards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Praeterintention Joseph77237 (talk) 08:12, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Joseph77237: Thank you for fixing those red reference errors. Other comments:
- I don't understand why your draft uses both "Praeterintention" and "Praeter intentionem" and "preterintention" instead of one consistent spelling.
- Similarly, I don't understand why it uses both "preterintentional" and "preterintencional" instead of one consistent spelling.
- Should "punineed" be changed to "punished" or something else?
- Please fix the author names for reference #52
- I fixed some typos and references.
- Good luck with your draft! GoingBatty (talk) 15:37, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
Question and Clarification
Hi, @GoingBatty,
I want to thank you for contributing to this page Draft:Paul Oluikpe. Quite several other editors had contributed and improved this article, but someone suddenly moved it to draft from the mainspace, citing insufficient sources(which I tend to disagree with, even though I respect his opinion). Given that quite some contributions had gone into this article from other editors (especially, editors who had clocked up loads of editing work and experience on wikipedia like yourself), I should have thought that this particular editor could have seen the history of edits and then raised issues for discussion amongst these contributors first, to provoke some discussion and maybe other perspectives might emerge.
Can I ask you a favour, that you go through the article again and if possible, give me feedback.
Kind regards
Cfaso2000 (talk) 20:19, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cfaso2000: Hi there! I've updated some of the reference formats for the draft. There doesn't seem to be a policy that requires discussion before moving a new article from mainspace to draftspace - see WP:ATD-I. User blogs (e.g. references 1,4) interviews (e.g. references 7,8,9), and self-written works (e.g. reference 16, maybe 10) are not usually considered reliable sources for Wikipedia articles. I'm glad that you started a discussion on Draft talk:Paul Oluikpe, and I pinged the other editor so they'll know you're talking to them. GoingBatty (talk) 20:57, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much @GoingBatty for having a look. I am very grateful for your objectivity and thanks for improving my work.

Question from Go2lisao (07:18, 8 September 2024)
Hi there I want to start by correcting a photo on a colleague's page. It was a photo of two people, and when a search is carried out the other person's face shows up. I've got a new photo to upload but not sure how to set about uploading. Can you help? --Go2lisao (talk) 07:18, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Go2lisao: You could try a few things:
- You could post a request on the article's talk page to crop the other person out of the existing photo
- If you took the new photo, you could use Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard and then post a request on the article's talk page to replace the existing photo with the new photo
- If you did not take the new photo, you could ask the photographer to upload their photo via Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:58, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Jlpsings (18:26, 10 September 2024)
Hello! I've always been curious about being an editor for Wikipedia pages. Is one person able to create a page or do you need people like mentors to help you make one? I see I can edit some pages that are already live but don't really know what the processes are around here. Thanks! --Jlpsings (talk) 18:26, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Jlpsings: Hi there! It's possible for one person to create a new Wikipedia article. However, doing so can be quite challenging, especially if you do not have a lot of experience editing existing Wikipedia articles. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:29, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Request for feedback
Hi @GoingBatty I noticed you edited my article Paul Oluikpe and I am very appreciative. Would you kindly take a look again? I overhauled the article after it was nominated for deletion (AfD) and I am looking to get feedback from editors who previously edited the work. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards. Cfaso2000 (talk) 12:48, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cfaso2000: I made a few more tweaks for you, but nothing that will impact the AfD decision. Part of the reviewer's job is to determine whether the sources in the articles meet Wikipedia's definition of independent reliable sources, and I don't do a good job of figuring out the difference between independent articles and press released dressed up to look like news articles. Good luck with the article! GoingBatty (talk) 14:29, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Fixing references
I don't think changing a publisher to a work category is correct as you have done with Synge Street CBS. You call that "fixed references". The Irish Times is a newspaper publisher and should be listed as such as a publisher, and in that paper most pages give their category of work at the top of the webpage or in the hard copy, which I usually fill in, such as the "The Irishman's Dairy" that you removed. Can you explain and justify this? ww2censor (talk) 11:33, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Ww2censor: Hi there! After re-reading MOS:ITALICTITLE and Template:Cite news#Description, here's how I interpret the situation:
- The Irish Times is an Irish daily broadsheet newspaper and online digital publication. Newspaper titles should be italicized and the
|work=
(or|newspaper=
) parameters perform the italicization. - The Irish Times is owned by The Irish Times Trust. As a company name, it does not need italicization. When we use The Irish Times in a reference, we shouldn't also use The Irish Times Trust as the publisher.
- "The Irishman's Diary" is a column of The Irish Times newspaper. The column name should not be italicized. It can be put in the
|department=
parameter. I deleted "The Irishman's Diary" from one reference because it was also in the|title=
field, and we don't need it in two places.
- The Irish Times is an Irish daily broadsheet newspaper and online digital publication. Newspaper titles should be italicized and the

Question from ParteroJerry (16:55, 25 October 2024)
Hello. I have some historical information about an Abandoned town in California, called Rice, California. I am 80 years old, and before I die, I would like to add to the historical information about Rice, Ca. --ParteroJerry (talk) 16:55, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- @ParteroJerry: Hi there! That's so generous of you! I suggest you start a discussion on the page Talk: Rice, California. I've found it's best to start conversations small, wait for others to respond, and then expand. You could add a summary about the type of historical information you have and info about the published reliable sources where the information could be found. (Unfortunately, Wikipedia articles can't be based on personal recollections.) I wish you all the best! GoingBatty (talk) 17:52, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- OK, so if personal recollections cannot be accepted, and my photo of a brass plaque describing most of the ww2 activities that occurred in Rice cannot be used because it is copywrited, then I have ZERO to contribute! 47.136.179.102 (talk) 17:49, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- @ParteroJerry: I'm not a copyright expert, but I don't see how your own photo of a public plaque would be copyrighted by someone else. One thing you might want to try is working with a local historical society. They may be willing to verify your recollections and publish an article, which could then be used as a reference for a Wikipedia article. GoingBatty (talk) 21:42, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Actually, I made a major contribution to the history of Rice, California on the Website http://ghosttowns.com/states/ca/rice.html 7 years ago. That site has all of my old photos of Rice, California and all of my memories from the early 50's to the present. Because Wikipedia is Sooooooo difficult or impossible to pass information about old memories or signs, I will leave it to someone who has the experience & patience to make additions to the history of Rice, California. Just leave the link to http://ghosttowns.com/states/ca/rice.html and let the reader decide if he needs references to those stories or not! ParteroJerry (talk) 22:38, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Thyme Cardamom (10:06, 29 October 2024)
Hello, I've published my Sandbox and would appreciate your review to ensure it aligns with Wikipedia's guidelines. Could you provide feedback and suggestions for improvement? Thank you --Thyme Cardamom (talk) 10:06, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Thyme Cardamom: Please don't create a new section every time you post here. You can just continue in this thread.
- A Wikipedia article needs to be based on multiple independent published reliable sources that provide in-depth coverage. Reference #1 is obviously not independent, and I don't know whether reference #2 is reliable.
- Please please please follow the instructions in Help:Your first article. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:02, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will not my mistake and continue from this thread. In relation to the references, reference #2 from Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Africa Sources List. Thyme Cardamom (talk) 07:26, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Thyme Cardamom: Thank you for sharing that link. I added a link from Wikipedia:WikiProject Ghana/Resources to that page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 13:18, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Ellcar (03:26, 1 November 2024)
An article about Dr. Stornetta omitted the fact that he teaches at Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School in Livingston, NJ, where I am the Head of School. --Ellcar (talk) 03:26, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Ellcar: Hi there! Wikipedia articles are not always complete. Feel free to mention your idea for improvement on the article's talk page (maybe Talk:W. Scott Stornetta?) along with any published reliable source you may have where someone could independently confirm your statement. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:32, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

- Hi there! I am presuming you're referring to the Bhavya article. My bot recently made this edit, which replaced Category:Year of birth missing (living people) with Category:2011 births. It did so because the infobox gave her date of birth as "20 October 2011". However, this can't be right if she acted in the 1980s. I see that Geniac has already fixed the article. If you would like to add a date of birth, please also add a citation to show where you read the information. You can also discuss her date of birth at Talk:Bhavya. Happy editing!
