Heights are quoted in imperial
[edit]Sherdog quotes its heights in imperial, why are you converting them to metric? Nswix (talk) 13:13, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Nswix, Changing it based on the countries of the fighters which use the metric for example (Brazil, Russia, ect.) use the metric system and not imperial. American fighters will not have the metric on their pages. Dates are also the same. Asked Cassiopeia about it and they did not oppose it as the imperial system is still visible and in the infobox.
- @Cassiopeia: as far as I was aware it was always 'as sourced', because it will convert it to metric anyways. I don't know where this one-way‐for-some-fighters-and-another-way-for-others idea came from. Nswix (talk) 21:46, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Nswix and Articlread: Good day and pls read the two messages/communication between Articlread and I - Inches to cm message and April 2024 message.
- Height, weight and reach: As the full mma infobox convert imperial to metric system and the source is a per Sherdog in imperial, we always use "per source" and it will be converted to metric system in regardless which country is using metric system (btw almost the whole world is using metric system). The conversion serve to provide info to viewers who know only one system. We must understand that we are not sure how many round up/round down on the conversion, so it might not be 100% accurate if one viewer think is should be round up for 3 digits and the other think should round down 2 digits. So we just like the Wikipedia system convert as what it is from imperial to metric. Even some Sherdog fighter info comes with metric system, I would suggest to use imperial and let the system convert for it is the norm since day one as the weight division, height and reach are always referred in imperial system in most article and cage/octagon announcements. Pls note that we have about 2k mma fighter pages in Wikipedia and to change so pages (Sherdog does not have metric system in place back then in the web page, so all fighter infoboxes are recorded in imperial system), it is unnecessary since it is converted already and for consistency sake.
- Date of birth on lead section: The date system is another matter. The date either is 24, May 2024 or May 24, 2024 has no conversion but just a preference of how it is listed. So if the fighter country normally use 24, May 2024 instead of May 24, 2024, then we use the what the norm of the country where the country come from (24, May 2024).
- Articlread, There are a lot of guidelines and norm you might not be aware of, so if you have any questions, kindly ask for we are all here to help and support each other. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 06:24, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
