Vital Article inconsistent bolding

[edit]

Hi! I was taking a look at VA today and saw some of the items on the list are bolded (meaning they are of a higher level), but only some are listing the higher level in brackets.

As far as I am aware, this is looked after by cewbot. Could you take a look? Thank you Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 19:07, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MSGJ The bot use `Category:Wikipedia level-%1 vital articles` (at configuration.general.category_name_of_level) to determine what level a vital article belongs to. As of October 17th or so, these categories no longer contain discussion pages, so the bot failed. Can you make these categories fill all discussion pages again? Or are there any considerations? Kanashimi (talk) 01:42, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see Wikipedia talk:Vital articles#Categories. Categories like Category:Wikipedia level-1 vital articles are container categories which means they are supposed to have subcategories but not contain any pages directly. If possible could you use the subcategories? If impossible, then we can repopulate — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:12, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have to wait until I have time to modify the program. Kanashimi (talk) 12:52, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because icons_schema seems to have been changed. Changes to all relevant pages on User:Cewbot/log/20200122/configuration will affect the bot, so I'm afraid {{Bot use warning}} must be added. Kanashimi (talk) 12:58, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems fixed. Kanashimi (talk) 13:23, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Moving 'WikiProject Irish Republicanism' outside of banner shell

[edit]

Hi, see Special:Diff/1255442734 and related. Thanks! --Nintendofan885T&Cs apply 00:06, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

{{WikiProject Irish republicanism}} is not belong to WikiProject_template_categories @ User:Cewbot/log/20200122/configuration Kanashimi (talk) 03:38, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this was caused by someone moving the template and not updating accordingly. We need to have some kind of delay to give us time to fix these, before the bot comes along and removes all the templates from the banner shell — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:40, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we can treat the robot's actions as a notification that a problem with a template should be fixed? Kanashimi (talk) 08:56, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we'll find out about the issues before the bot does something as this just requires a null edit, there is nothing visible to notice on our own. That said, maybe the bot can just never move a template starting with the prefix "WikiProject" out of the banner. I don't think there is ever a valid reason for that. Gonnym (talk) 12:53, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's happening again — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:42, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Periodic GIGO report

[edit]

Could the bot check for single-bracket errors like what it encountered here ({{WikiProject Northern Ireland}), and skip those pages and periodically produce a report for manual review? There is no way for {{WPBS}} to find the output from that error, as the template/module are never invoked, and the code simply treated as plain text. I was lucky to spot it only because I happened to be adding {{WP Northern Ireland}} to pages.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  22:26, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to list these problem pages in Wikipedia:WPBS syntax error pages. Kanashimi (talk) 01:08, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

class=Template not being removed despite remove_unnecessary_parameters

 Fixed Kanashimi (talk) 04:54, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you use |class=^$ for empty values now, which is intuitive, but shouldn't |[\w\-_ ]*importance= -> |[\w\-_ ]*importance=^$ to match?   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  11:06, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Boldly updated & combined importance rules to match.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  11:19, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Auto-archiving seems to choose weird subpages

[edit]

Hi,

I added the Auto-archive template to my user talk page. Now Cewbot moved old discussions to ... an userbox?

Difflink

What have I done wrong? (I'll clean that up manually, but still...) Tuxman (talk) 02:58, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your report. I've modified the code and it should be archived to the right page next time. Kanashimi (talk) 09:14, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

blp/living

[edit]

Hi there. As previously requested, when you edit banner shells, could you at the same time convert |living= into |blp=? Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:12, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I should have already modified it. Are there examples I can check to see what's wrong? Kanashimi (talk) 23:50, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
