Broken redirects

Hello, Explicit,

There are 132 broken redirects that shouldn't be broken but the editor who handled a lot of page moves today decided not to leave a redirect behind when they did their page moves and so we are left with dozens of broken redirects that need to be fixed or made "unbroken".

I've asked them to go back and create redirects for all of these valid redirect pages. But in case they don't, there will be a very full AnomieBot report later that is full of broken redirects that shouldn't be deleted. I will be out tonight so I just wanted to give you a head's up on this. I hope you are having a pleasant holiday season. Liz Read! Talk! 23:24, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Large recent amounts of u5

Hey! Sorry for the somewhat large amount of u5's I've been requesting suddenly. I had ran across a small set of u5-like pages while checking on some linter errors, and after doing a few checks, there turned out to be more pages than I expected just like it. I recently just expanded the insource check to catch probably every case that could be relevant (see here, note a few small false positives). I don't exactly want to go through and tag about 20 or more so pages with u5 manually and have an admin chase me around, so could I ask you check through this list yourself, since you processed my recent requests. Thanks. Aidan9382 (talk) 12:40, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

@Aidan9382: Hi, thanks for the note. I caught wind of this and searched for "Jsssmiugpg" and caught only one userpage, so I thought it was the end of it. I didn't expect it extend even further. Every single account that showed up in your query was created in the past 24 hours, so this seems well organized. I have deleted them given the circumstances. I wonder if the article of the culprit JSS Banashankari Arts, Commerce & S.K.Gubbi Science College needs to get canned. plicit 12:57, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
Just for note, it seems to be happening again today. Found using this insource search which catches JSS SMI, as well as this new search which picks up some talkpage messages left by some of the users where the page otherwise wouldn't pick up. Seems to definitely be some sort of school project or something along those lines, though I'm not sure how to really proceed with handling this from here. Request to make a draft article for International Philippine School in Riyadh

Hi! I know the PROD for International Philippine School in Riyadh expired. I am in the process of looking for sources to re-establish the article. Is it OK if I make a draft of the page on my user space?

Thank you, WhisperToMe (talk) 00:24, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

@WhisperToMe: Hi, since this article was deleted via PROD, it is considered uncontroversial and can be undeleted by request. I have no opinion on the matter. plicit 10:50, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

Move to commons request

Hi Explicit. Two things: would you be able to move File:Home Depot U. S. A., Inc. v. Jackson oral arguments.mp3 to Commons? I am prevented from doing so by an abuse filter, as the file is a .mp3. Second thing: is there a better place to make requests like this? Happy holidays, HouseBlastertalk 18:05, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

@HouseBlaster: Hi, the audio file is now available on Commons. To request a file to be moved to Commons, you can tag it with {{Move to Commons}} For an immediate result, I suppose you'd have to ask someone to do so. Which tool did you use to attempt the file transfer? I used FileImporter without issue. plicit 09:36, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
I used FileImporter, too. I triggered an AbuseFilter, which prevents the upload of .mp3s. I asked you because you are an admin at Commons, and thus are exempt from the filter. HouseBlastertalk 02:52, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

Verizon Delaware

Please undelete this article. The PROD was mistaken, as there were sources in the article, albeit in the form of external links. Ref formatting cleanup was needed, but deletion was a total mistake, as it's just as notable as the other Regional Bell Operating Companies. Deletion has left out coverage of the Breakup of the Bell System, a major topic in business and technology history, incomplete. oknazevad (talk) 19:15, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Reverse Speedy Deletion Please

@HistoryIsKeyToKnow: Hi, your account was not deleted, only the content which you posted in violation of the speedy deletion criterion WP:CSD#U5. Please see WP:UP#GOALS for further guidance. Regarding restoration, you'd basically be left with a blank page. The current content on your userpage is fine. plicit 00:20, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey Explicit. I noticed that the above filed were deleted under the claim that they had no free equivalents. Can you please explain how exactly how exactly this is? There really is not any free excerpts of these guys - or at least authentic ones. When you sort on YouTube via the Creative Commons category while searching up their names, all of the "creative commons" videos are either clearly ripped off from the streams of the latter two or just cover stories in the case of all three. There really doesn't seem to be any free equivalent for their voices. Knightoftheswords281 (talk) 05:12, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

@Knightoftheswords281: Please see WP:NFCC#1: Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose. As all the subjects appear to be alive, free equivalents could be created, thus failing the "no free equivalent" criterion. plicit 00:20, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

Chess in the arts

The deletion of all of the screengrabs I made to illustrate various points in this article was a surprise. I had hoped to spark a discussion of the matter, however, along with the images (which I still maintain add important context to the article), the Talk pages and links to various discussions about the matter were also deleted, making further discussion difficult. Admittedly, my grasp of the nuance of the legalese pertaining to licence and fair use is clearly not as refined as yours, but the images were made and uploaded in good faith, and I do believe that there is a solid rational for their inclusion. Anything that can be done to find a middle-ground here? Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 13:45, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

@Cl3phact0: Hi, these screenshot were deleted for not satisfying point eight of the non-free content criteria policy. It is a two-pronged test: the inclusion of the image must "significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." This is usually accomplished when the file is accompanied by sourced critical commentary of what the image depicts, see the "contextual significance" criterion for further information. These files were only used in a section of the chess in the arts article, as the nominator put it, "to illustrate a point of trivia." plicit 00:20, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply and best wishes for the New Year.
The logic behind my addition of the images was that in the context of the article, almost all of the other information is supported by visual examples (i.e., paintings, illuminated texts, excerpts from books, photographs of chess pieces designed by historically significant people, etc.), whereas the section about chess in film (and television) has very little corresponding imagery. As the subject is chess in the arts, and much of the the information concerns visual arts, it seemed like a worthwhile and relevant addition that improved contextual significance (point 8). When I first came across the article, the only such example was the screenshot of the Bergman film. I located the image of A Chess Dispute on Commons, and subsequently, taking the example of The Seventh Seal screenshot, went ahead made the similar images (2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Casablanca, Star Trek, etc.) specifically for this purpose. As such, I believe that there is a justifiable use that improves the article and that the images do more than "illustrate a point of trivia" in this context.
With this in mind, I would hope that you and Whpq might reconsider the matter and reinstate the images. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 11:47, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
I will make this very simple. No. They do not meet WP:NFCC#8. -- Whpq (talk) 14:02, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
Whpq: Simple, yes, almost to a fault — though without elucidating much. Alas, I'm stumped here: How does The Seventh Seal image (the model upon which I based the additions) pass this interpretation of the NFCC#8 criteria, but not the proposed new screenshots? Thanks for your help (and apologies if I'm missing the obvious — this is clearly more complex than one would think). Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:27, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
The image from The Seventh Seal also fails WP:NFCC#8 and shouldn't be there. Thanks for calling it to my attention. -- Whpq (talk) 19:35, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
Great, glad to have something to show for my trouble! Shame nobody caught it sooner (could've saved us both a lot of precious time). I'm struggling to find even a modest gain in this: the WP:NFCC#8 criteria seem to contain more nuance and flexibility of interpretation than your laconic response might suggest — yet discussion seems to be off the table, in spite of an earlier suggestion that a discussion be opened on the Talk page of the files in question (now also deleted). Again, my intention was simply to ever so modestly improve the article, not wade into a morass. Godspeed, Cl3phact0 (talk) 21:36, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
The discussion on the file's talk page is for the purposes of challenging the deletion. The reviewing administrator would review the reason for deletion, the challenge to the deletion and determine if the image should be kept, or deleted based on policy. If the decision is not clear, then the administrator may chose to nominate if for deletion were a larger discussion can be had. In this case, these images fall well short of meeting the contextual significance required to meet WP:NFCC#8, and so they were deleted without the need for further discussion. -- Whpq (talk) 22:34, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
I have to respect your opinion, as you clearly have expert knowledge and a great deal of experience in the interpretation of WP:NFCC policy. It does seem like a somewhat self-defeating shame that the article (indeed, Wikipedia itself) can't be improved with more and better contextual imagery of this nature — or for that matter, that discussion about these matters should be limited to one person's point of view. In any case, I've given as much of my time to this as I'm willing or able to do. (In future, I'll also likely refrain from uploading imagery other than photos I've made myself as it seems, at the very least, like a headache-inducing and futile waste of time.) Good luck with your other projects, whatever they may be, and all the best, Cl3phact0 (talk) 09:06, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
PS: If this discussion is of interest to anyone else, please see: User talk:Whpq#Bogart, Dylan, Frank v. Hal, Spock, et al. for ref. Also, @Explicit, apologies for cluttering your Talk page with this matter rather than sweeping it back into the above referenced thread (where it probably belongs). Licenses not covering the US

Dear Explicit,

A happy new year to you! I have a brief question regarding the speedy deletion criterion F4: If only a foreign license has been given, but there has been no attempt to license a file for the US (and common sense does not suggest to me that any applies), is it then appropriate to tag it under F4? The criterion refers to "necessary" license information, which I read as a license covering the US, but as you recently referred me to FfD for such a tag, I just wanted to bring this up on your talk page. I am currently sifting through the "Disputed license" backlog, so there might be quite a number of these coming up. Many thanks! Felix QW (talk) 13:05, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

"List of The Orville characters" article deleted due to edits by a banned/blocked user

Hi,

I was browsing the article List of The Orville characters, but when I refreshed the page, the entirety of the article was gone. When I checked the notices, I saw that a banned/blocked user presumably edited the page and caused the entire article to vanish. Citing section G5 of Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, I am not sure why the article was deleted especially when it was created long ago, but it should not have been deleted because of someone evading a ban. I understand if this is not my business, but I am just an everyday Wikipedia user voicing my concern.

Hello Explicit, I was wondering whether you could un-delete a file for me or if I would just have to reupload it. Alt.Latino was using the image File:Alt.Latino Podcast Cover.jpg, however, someone replaced it with the commons file File:Alt-Latino_Podcast-Tile_(1).png, which left the file unused and led to its deletion. A deleted template

Hi Explicit,

In this TfD discussion (started by Awesome Aasim and closed by you in November) a template was deleted that is used in at least a few discussions on admin noticeboard archives and the like. Those discussions are now largely incomprehensible (with a bunch of broken templates where there used to be diffs). This seems like a bad outcome. One way to fix it would be to undelete the template; Aasim had suggested that each use could be subst'd, but that didn't happen and I don't see how it can happen now that the template is deleted. Can you make a suggestion of how to proceed?

Thanks, JBL (talk) 20:41, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

I am somewhat disappointed that this did not receive a response -- in particular, it seems that you did do the substitution, and I cannot think of any reason for you not to have responded saying so :(. (In the unlikely event that anyone else cares, my confusion was caused by looking at old diffs; for example, [3] is broken forever in the history, although because the template was subst'd the live version in the archives is readable.) --JBL (talk) 23:53, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

File:The Second Hundred Years (TV series).jpg

Hi Explict. Just want to clarify that I was only disputing the non-free use of this file in Arthur O'Connell as I explained to the uploader at User talk:Marchjuly#The Second Hundred Years (TV series).jpg. While I thought the use in the article about the TV program was a bit questionable, that was probably something to be sorted out in a different discusison. The file's log says it was deleted per F7, but I don't remember tagging it as such. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:25, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi Explicit. I'm wondering if you had the chance to take another look at this. Based upon User talk:Marchjuly#The Second Hundred Years (TV series).jpg, the uploader of the file feels the tagging of it for speedy deletion was inappropriate. Perhaps there's another way to resolve this so that the file's non-free use in the main infobox of The Second Hundred Years (TV series) could be discussed? - Marchjuly (talk) 00:40, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

Help

Hi, the photo of the deceased person Maarten van Emden (taken by me and to which I hereby relinquish copyright by placing it in the public domain) was deleted (perhaps by a bot?) because of "insufficient licensing information". Can you tell me how to provide the licenising information that is required to restore this photo. I thought I had explicitly indicated that I was the author and copyright holder and that I was relinquishing it to the public domain... but perhaps I didn't include the right metadata tags... I don't know how to do this and would welcome assistance. Thanks - André --Vellino (talk) 20:29, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

@Vellino: Hi, you did not specify the license at the time of the upload, which is what led to its deletion. However, I have restored the file and added the license you have provided in this message. plicit!
(talk page watcher) Hi Vellino. In the "source" entry for the file's description, you wrote the following: It is my intellectual property. I am using it for his wikipedia biography.; however, you posted above that you were relinquishing it into the public domain. Neither of those things are a problem since you're the copyright holder, but releasing this photo into the public domain means that you're expressly waiving your claim of copyright ownership over it. If you do this, there's no way you can restrict the photo's use to only the Wikipedia article about van Emden; it can be used by anyone anywhere in the world for any purpose without any copyright restrictions to worry about. In addition, there's no way you can require anyone who reuses the photo to even attribute you as the person who took it. If you're sure you want to do this, then that's great; however, if you thought you were only allowing the file to be used on Wikipedia and that it would somehow still be your photo from a copyright standpoint, then I think you're mistaken. If you do want to do this, the file probably should be moved to Wikimedia Commons since that's a better place for it to be hosted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:38, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

File:Ken-Sharpe-Headshot.jpg

Hi Explicit. Would you mind checking to see whether File:Ken-Sharpe-Headshot.jpg is the same as File:Ken Sharpe Headshot.jpeg? The file names are similar and the uploader is the same. You deleted the second file per F7 back on January 7. The first file was just uploaded. It was first tagged for not having a license, but then the uploader add a CC license, claiming they own the rights to the photo. If they do "own the rights" and the file is verified by VRT, then great; however, the same image can be found online prior to it being uploaded (e.g. here and here) which makes the "own work" claim seem a bit questionable. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:51, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Update: The file's licensing has been VRT verified which means nothing more probably needs to be done here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:41, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

File deletion

Hello. I just saw that you deleted this file: [4] that I uploaded with an explanation of its fair use rationale for the article Hunter Biden laptop controversy where this page and story set off a 2+ year political firestorm. The page was sourced from the website of the newspaper, where it is freely available. It has been widely used elsewhere per fair use. Is there something that would need to be added to the explanation I gave in the upload documentation that would enable the image to be restored. Are youc certain that the documentation provided was insufficient? Thanks. SPECIFICO talk 02:48, 24 February 2023 (UTC) @Explicit: I request that this image be restored. Please respond to the AN thread about your deletions

Hi. A month ago, an editor asked you a question about a deletion you made, here on your talk page at #File deletion. You did not respond, despite continuing to edit (including deleting files) on this wiki. At WP:AN#User:Explicit - Conduct related to file deletions, you wrote "I am no longer active on the English Wikipedia to the extent I was prior to 2023. I don't look at my talk page much and a simple WP:REFUND request would have resolved the issue." 11 minutes later, you deleted almost 80 more files. In that AN thread, editors have raised concerns about your deletions performed daily at 00:00 UTC, and whether these are being done by a script. Please do not delete any more files until you've addressed editors' concerns in that AN thread. Per WP:ADMINACCT, you shouldn't be deleting files here (or taking any other admin actions) if you are not going to look at your talk page and address concerns in a timely manner. Delinking deleted geography articles

Hi, I noticed that when you closed a couple of Arizona geography AfDs, you delinked them from lists instead of deleting the entry entirely. For example this left Matthie, AZ listed as a "populated place" with no sourcing to support it, even though it's actually a railroad junction and should not be in the list at all. I'm hoping you could remove these at the time of deletion as they're quite consuming to track down after the fact. Thanks, –dlthewave 18:48, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

File:Frank Nelson.jpeg

Hi Explicit. I hope you're doing well. Would you mind taking a look at File:Frank Nelson.jpeg? I'm asking you about it because you're also an admin on Commons and File:Frank Nelsononjackbenny.jpg predates the upload of this non-free by more than ten years. The Commons file was previously being used in the main infobox of Frank Nelson (actor) until the non-free was uploaded. Normally, this would be a no-brainer F7 violation, but I'm a little concerned about licensing of the Commons file since it seems to be a screencapture from a 1950's TV show that is claimed to be PD, but I'm not sure how to check that. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:57, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Hi, the file description states that this is a screenshot from an episode of The Jack Benny Program. According to the Syndication section, the episodes aired prior to 1961 are in the public domain. The caption for File:Frank Nelsononjackbenny.jpg in the Frank Nelson (actor) article claims to be from 1954. If all of this information is accurate, this particular file should be okay. File:Frank Nelson.jpeg would then be eligible for deletion for F7 if that is the case. plicit 07:44, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for checking on this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:45, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

1278 and 1530 AM West Yorkshire

Hi,

I see that you have deleted this article. I was not aware that it was the subject of an AfD.

If there had been a AfD I would have voted for it to have been merged with Pulse 2 because as you rightly say it was a temporary fill-in station. However I would have copied and pasted the article's content with a view to potentially incorporating some of its content into the Pulse 2 article.

I am not sure if a deleted article is fully wiped from the Wikipedia server. If not, I would be grateful if you could send me the article's content so that any relevant bits can be incorporated into the Pulse 2 article. Rillington (talk) 21:54, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

@Rillington: Hi, 1278 and 1530 AM West Yorkshire was deleted by PROD, not AFD. I have restored the article based on your comment here. You are free to merge any relevant content into Pulse 2 and then redirect the restored page there. plicit 23:44, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Hi, and thank you for your reply. I'm not sure what PROD means but I would imagine that your thinking was that the article would not pass the notability test and it only has one reference and that it would fail any AfD discussion and even as someone who is opposed to article deletion, the best I would be able to do is advocate for its merger with Pulse 2. Thank you for restoring it. This means that I can copy and paste the contents into my Sandbox so if it was to be deleted the important points would not be lost to Wikipedia. Rillington (talk) 09:13, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) - PROD refers to proposed deletion. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution to comply with licensing. What this means is that if you merge the contents of 1278 and 1530 AM West Yorkshire in to Pulse 2 and then redirect, the redirect will contain the history that provides attribution. As such, that redirect, and its history won't be deleted so I would not be too concerned about it being deleted. The licensing also means that copying to your sandbox just to hold on to it is not a good idea. See WP:COPIES and WP:COPYARTICLE. -- Whpq (talk) 12:11, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for explaining what PROD means. The article has now been nominated for deletion and given that it will never meet notability guidelines, to me the solution is to merge it with Pulse 2 so that the relevant information can be retained, and I have voted for this merge to take place. Rillington (talk) 16:43, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi Explicit, I have noticed that in my absence an image that I had uploaded was deleted with the justification that it lacked a source, but how is that possible if even in my original upload, File:Somaliprince.png was created with a clear verifiable source attached [5]. Is it possible to recover the edit history of that image to see if any bad faith editing caused the removal of the image’s source and subsequent deletion? Thanks. @GoldenDragonHorn: Hi, the file has been restored. plicit 23:39, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

File:Economic Freedom Party (Israel) logo.svg

Hi Explicit. Do you think File:Economic Freedom Party (Israel) logo.svg needs to be non-free? It seems to be nothing more than text and what looks like a branch. c:COM:TOO Israel seems to indicate that Israel's TOO is closer to the US's than the UK's; so, I'm wondering if this would be OK for Commons if it's PD in the US. If it needs to remain non-free then I'm not seeing any justification for its non-free use in Abir Kara.

The same thing pretty much also could be said about File:Pascal Pictures logo.svg, except that the country of first publication seems to be the US. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:49, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Hi, I would say that File:Pascal Pictures logo.svg is unarguably PD-logo. I'm not so sure about File:Economic Freedom Party (Israel) logo.svg, as I wouldn't classify the design at the bottom as a simple geometric shape. plicit 23:39, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for taking a look at these. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:14, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
I'm wondering about the source given for the Pascal Pictures logo. It's for a fandom site, but I'm not sure how current or accurate it is. I can't seem to find an official website for the company, but I did find an Instagram account which shows a slightly different and bit more complex logo. There also appear to be different versions of the logo used for different films. So, I'm not sure whether there's any point in converting the file's licensing to "PD-logo" and tagging it for a move to Commons if there's no way to verify it's accurate. Any thoughts on this? -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:58, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: Hmm, sometimes the colors of a logo are inverted by users on here and other wikis because of how poorly a white logo displays against the white background of a website, particularly on Wikipedia. I don't think there is any guideline that addresses these cases specifically. I thought there might have been an issue with the previous publication clause of NFCC, but derivatives seem to be okay. plicit 12:28, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
Fair enough. I've gone ahead and coverted the Pascal logo to "PD-logo" and prodded the ERP for deletion. Do you think you could restore the original uploaded version of the Pascal logo since there's no need for it to be reduced if it's the same as the current logo? -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:43, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
@Marchjuly:  Done, revision restored. plicit 05:04, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Deleted article

Hi Explicit. We tried to publish our first article yesterday on the historian Benjamin T. Jones. We are new to the process but can see it has been deleted. We were hoping for some feedback on why it was deleted and if there is a way to resubmit it as Australian historians and especially historians from the regions are underrepresented. The issue of a republic is being hotly debated so the article seemed to be in the public interest. Looking forward to your feedback. Rockhampton History Group. Images moved to Commons

Hey Explicit, I saw you moved a bunch of images I had uploaded to en.wiki over to Commons - most of them are probably fine to go over, but there's a batch all from the same source that I don't think should have been moved (based on the information I've been able to track down anyway). These are File:SMS Von der Tann entering Scapa.jpg, File:SMS Seydlitz interned.jpg, File:SMS Seydlitz entering Scapa.jpg, File:SMS Moltke entering Scapa.jpg, File:SMS Bayern sinking2.jpg, and File:SMS Baden salvage.jpg. They're all sourced to the book Scapa and a Camera: Pictoral Impressions of Five Years Spent at the Grand Fleet Base, which was originally published in the UK. I haven't been able to track down a date of death for the author, C.W. Burrows, who also took the photos, so without that we can't know for certain that the images are PD in the UK. I did track down an obituary in the BNA for a C. W. Burrows, who died in 1952, but there's no information in the obit to confirm that it's the same person. I think without any additional information, we need to move the photos back to en.wiki. Parsecboy (talk) 12:25, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

@Parsecboy: Hi, thanks for letting me know. I have restored the local files and deleted the ones on Commons. You may want to modify the licensing of these particular images. plicit 12:41, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi! I was wondering your 'plausible typo' reasoning. As I see it, it would require someone with keyboard access to special character "fi". Furthermore, as soon as you start searching "Category:Predominan...", both identical-looking pages appear in the dropdown; at that point, you might as well have only the non-typo page exist, or the doubled appearance just creates confusion (this is how I encountered the typo in the first place). From the first days this article was nominated for deletion due to the fact that there were no sources in English. Yes, it is, the sources were only in Azerbaijani, Ukrainian, Russian, Moldovan and French. But in the modern social world, automatically translating any page is not a problem. The sources that were indicated in the article itself were quite widely known in their own states. The reason why I want to keep this article can be understood by reading this article to the end. It can be used to study the LGBT community and their rights in Azerbaijan. My other article which I translated into English today also serves this main reason of mine. So if possible restore this article . I will be very grateful. No matter what decision you decide, thank you in advance for your attention.Futurolog21 (talk) 00:10, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

@Futurolog21: Hi, the page was deleted as a result of the deletion discussion, so I cannot unilaterally undelete the page. You will need to address the concerns raised at the deletion discussion and prove that the subject meets notability guidelines. You are free to work on a draft and submit your work through the articles for creation process. plicit 01:09, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

AFD Help

Hi Explicit, I’m trying to add Christina Aguilera with the LA Phil to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2023 May 1 but I seem to be having trouble, I do not believe it’s notable enough to be on Wikipedia. But every time I try to put it in it doesn’t seem to be working correctly, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong? I did add the proposed deletion on its page. Or is that all I’m supposed to do? I have nominated a page to be deleted in the past but that seemingly went by a lot smoother. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I originally had typed it manually at the top of the page but I just reverted it and just used Twinkle instead. Hopefully that won’t be a problem. I tried going back and seeing if that would to help to add it to the page but still wouldn’t. Pillowdelight (talk) 03:25, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

@Pillowdelight: Hi, when you nominated a page for deletion using WP:PROD, there are no additional steps to take after adding the deletion template. Only pages nominated for WP:AFD are listed on the daily log pages. plicit 03:48, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
Oh, is there a difference? Or does it matter which one gets used? Like in your opinion would WP:PROD be okay for that page specifically? Or should it be changed to WP:AFD? Pillowdelight (talk) 03:52, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
@Pillowdelight: PROD is intended for pages that would be considered uncontroversial to delete and unlikely to get contested by someone else. Personally, I'd suggest merging the article's content elsewhere. plicit 03:58, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
I just switched it and was able to figure it out. Thank you! Pillowdelight (talk) 04:36, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Marwa Rakha deletion

Hello:)

Yesterday you deleted a page for Marwa Rakha, which there was discussion about i. And it didn't end I have various reasons to support the page, and Marwa Rakha is a notable person (she was live on tv yesterday in Egypt. and she was interviewed this week) Adam Basha12 (talk) 07:03, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

@Adam Basha12: Hi, unfortunately, the other editors in the deletion discussion were not swayed by the references you brought forward and consensus determined that Marwa Rakha currently does not meet notability guidelines. You are free to work on a draft and submit your work through the articles for creation process. plicit 01:09, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

CSD G13

Hello, Explicit,

I just noticed that FireflyBot stopped posting 5 month notifications to draft creator's talk pages on April 2nd so none of the editors of drafts/User pages we are deleting today have received notifications about their expiring page creations. I would be great if, until FireflyBot gets started up again, you could post Twinkle talk page notices when you are deleting CSD G13s right now. I think these notices are always useful to new editors but especially when the draft creators have had no other communication about their drafts. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:15, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Good news! FireflyBot is working again. I still think it is considerate to notify editors when you delete one of their page creations but I realize that is my preference, not policy. But I just wanted to update you. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 08:20, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

You recently closed the AFD of Zhu Yijun (badminton) as delete. Can you send me the original source of that page so I can improve it in userspace and bring it back when it is ready? Thanks! Timothytyy (talk) 05:46, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

@Timothytyy: Sure, a copy of the article is available here. plicit 06:26, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Missed the debate, which in turned missed multiple RS'es lying in plain sight. Not faulting you for closing it as it stood, but I have added two RS'es and un-redirected it. Feel free to start a DRV if you want, but I think this doesn't reflect badly on you at all, but rather on the nom and two participants who apparently couldn't be bothered to Google. Sigh. A kitten for you!

Thanks for deleting Talk:LDM2003. I created a talk page by mistake and wanted to move to my talk page

Talk:Queen Camilla of the United Kigdom

Hello Explicit,

Thank you for responding to my speedy deletion request. However another editor pointed out shortly before you deleted it that history for Talk:Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom was at that page. I assume the page would have to be undeleted for the history merge, then redeleted? Thanks, Estar8806 (talk) 13:00, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

@Estar8806: Hi, thanks for pointing this out. The bad page move and copy-paste move screwed things up a bit, but I think I've straightened everything out now. plicit 13:21, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I figured something was going to happen and mess things up, and of course it did. From what I can see everything seems to be sorted out. Thanks for all your help. Estar8806 (talk) 13:23, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

File:Katawa Shoujo logo.png

Hi Explicit. I've asked about the Commons version of c:File:Katawa Shoujo logo.png at c:COM:VPC#PD-textlogo in US and Japan because I'm not so sure it's PD even in the US. Hammersoft also posted they have concerns as well in WT:NFCC#Non-free licensed images. I initially thought the logo might also be subject to Japanese copyright law because of the subject matter and because of what's written about its origin in Katawa Shoujo#Creation, but it appears to be the result of an online collaboration of people of various nationalities; so, it's not clear which countries' copyright laws (if any) would apply in addition to the US's. I can't find out where Four Leaf Studios is based out of from it's Twitter account and it might not exist outside of whatever Internet presence it has established. I tried checking the official website for "Katawa Shoujo", but I get a "suspicious website" warning whenever I do and thus never get beyond the main homepage. Anyway, I'm just bringing this up because I'm not sure whether the tagging of the file with {{Now Commons}} might've been premature. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:39, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

I'm also going to note that File:Katawa Shoujo logo.svg has now been uploaded as a replacement for the png file. This would've meant that F8 wouldn't have been applicable due to the differences in format. -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:14, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Marchjuly. Four Leaf Studios seems to have been an ad hoc studio created solely for the production of that single visual novel and has apparently disbanded after its release. That is also why the website does not work very well: nobody is really maintaining it. I doubt they have established any official presence in any country, though here [6] they note their location as "Internet, United States Minor Outlying Islands". The domain "katawa-shoujo.com" is registered to US state of Arizona.
As for the template: it simply states that the same or better (as in this case) file is now available on commons. As per documentation: it is for the deleting admin(?) to verify that F8 conditions are met before proceeding with deletion. So the tagging was not premature. The SVG was really just an afterthought.
I would appreciate notice of concerns or discussions related to my files or actions, and maybe have them at some centralized location instead of jumping around. Thanks, CandyScythe (talk) 19:41, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Explicit is the administrator who deleted the local file tagged with "Now Commons". One of the conditions of WP:F8 deletions listed in the second bullet point is that "the license is undoubtedly accepted at Commons", and I was just letting Explicit know that this might not be the case. WP:BOLDly uploading something to Commons doesn't necessary mean its license "is undoubtedly accepted at Commons", which is what I meant by might've been premature. Since Explicit is also an administrator on Commons, they might also be able to offer input as to whether the file is OK as licensed. The svg was mentioned because if the local non-free file is by chance restored, then it will need to be manually re-added to the article to avoid be speedily deletion as orphaned non-free use per WP:F5. Since the non-free has the same name as the Commons png file that originally replaced it, the non-free would be automatically be added back to the article if the Commons png file was still being used. However, now that the png has been replaced by the svg version, the local non-free png file would need to be manually re-added to the article instead. As for Four Leaf Studios, Commons requires that files be public domain in both the US and their country of first publication. If, for Commons purposes, this is the US in both cases, then US copyright law is all that matters; if not, then things might be more difficult to sort out. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:07, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

Deleted page: Verisart

Hi! I fully understand why the page was recently deleted. However, is there a way you could send me the draft, please. I won't try to edit or resubmit it. I just forgot to copy the draft and paste it on Wikialpha instead. Is there a way I could still access the draft? After copying the content, I promise I will delete the draft myself. I hope you can help me with this. Thank you.Bmjc98 (talk) 17:51, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

@Bmjc98: Hi, a copy of the article is available here. plicit 23:28, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I will check on this later. I'm using my phone right now. Thank you.Bmjc98 (talk) 01:15, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for declining the deletion. Would you mind also adding |image has rationale=yes to {{non-free historic image}}? Psiĥedelisto (talkcontribs) please always ping! 20:12, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

@Psiĥedelisto:  Done, parameter added. plicit 00:31, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Operation Desert Thunder

Would you be able to retrieve the cited, linked, source that was a copyvio and source for this article so I can add it as a reference/external link to List of U.S. Department of Defense and partner code names? Many thanks and kind regards Buckshot06 (talk) 00:23, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

@Buckshot06: The article was an exact copy of this source. These two sources were also present in the article. plicit 00:31, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

CleanMyMac article recreated

Mornin'. You deleted CleanMyMac (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) three years ago; it's now been recreated at CleanMyMac X (the app's new name) by a new user, with insufficient sourcing to prove notability. I've discussed it with the user who re-created it. Seems to be a simple case of unfamiliarity with policy rather than COI.

Up to you to decide what to do, but I suggest not draftifying, since I doubt that the GNG could be met. I've suggested that the user focus on other articles so they don't potentially get stuck in an AFC-reject-AFC-reject loop, which would be frustrating for any user let alone a new one. Have a nice weekend! DFlhb (talk) 15:27, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
