Welcome to my talk page! If you haven't been here before, please read the below paragraphs.

Are you here because I reverted your edit? If so, please read the below First of all, click on all the links in the template I left on your user page (usually there will be one), and then post here if you still aren't sure why your edit was reverted. If your request is a reasonable objection (I.e. I stuffed up, again, since I am not exactly perfect), I will typically self-revert (if the edit is still live), strike the warning template, and leave an apology note below it. If, however, the edit cannot be reinstated in its current form, but can be made suitable, I will give some direction to policies, guidelines or help pages, and suggest that you try to fix it yourself first (you will probably learn more this way than if I do it for you). If you still aren't sure how to fix it, then let me know and I will make the requested change.

Dealing with discussions which need to be put on hold for a bit

Click "show" to read

Discussion is very important on Wikipedia. However, sometimes, due to various reasons, discussion sometimes ends up on a course which will never become productive, or resolve any kind of dispute. If this happens here, I may request that you temporarily refain from posting further messages here (except required notices), per WP:NOBAN. The objective is to act as a metaphorical circuit breaker (before we have a metaphorical fire). It is nothing against you or your viewpoint, but simply me assessing that the discussion needs to be put on hold for a while, since its current trajectory isn't going anywhere good. If I ask you to stay off, please respect this. I don't take it lightly. I will also try to stay out of your way for the duration of the temporary pause.

Am I a bot?

I don't think I am, but I'm not entirely sure.

If I am acting a bit odd-er

Should I ever go on some random vandalism spree or start acting much weirder than usual (it can be pretty weird though), don't waste time warning me here, just limit the damage and block me immediately, as my account would have been compromised.

Archiving and deleting

I tend to keep this page trimmed down a bit, and will usually archive finished discussions fairly quickly (usually in less than a week). I don't like to delete them entirely, unless it is mere vandalism or personal attacks with no real critical value. Personal attacks with critical value will be archived as usual. I also delete any sort of "awards" given by editors later found to be sockpuppets, or evading a block. The archives can be found at Archive 0 (an old version of my talkpage), User talk:Mako001/Archive 1 and User talk:Mako001/Archive 2.

Stay safe and happy editing! Mako001 (C)  (T)

Hello and a question

[edit]

Hello there, Mako001, or Mako, if i can risk being over-friendly. Just visited your userpage after something i saw on my watchlist (don't even remember what, 'twasn't important), and two things:

  1. I use a format which numbers section headings; i absolutely love that that makes your page say that WP has five pillars, it then enumerates them as 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8! No point to this observations, i'm simply amused.
  2. What is a wiki-squirrel accident? I read the two articles at the links you give, but i can't figure out anything significant they have in common, so i am puzzled.

Happy days, ~ LindsayHello 08:32, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LindsayH: To answer your question/comment number 2 (or whatever it appears as for you, number 4 maybe?): A wiki-squirrel accident is a term I sort of invented to refer to what happens when you accidentally end up improving an article substantially due to Wiki-squirrel tendencies. Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 23:36, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ha! Thank you. I never even thought of going to WP:SQUIRREL for a look; more of a WP:GNOME myself, so real creatures apparently catch me off-guard. See you around ~ and happy squirrelling! Happy days, ~ LindsayHello 07:08, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mako! I noted that you have been making occasional edits to California High-Speed Rail. That article is in need of a general overhaul, as it has been growing in a somewhat uncontrolled manner during the past 2 or 3 years. I made some high-level suggestions in the discussion: Talk:California_High-Speed_Rail#Clean-up_and_Harmonisation.

I'd like to ask if you would be interested in forming a team to give it a proper scrub. I am quite new to doing serious edits on Wikipedia and am keen to take it on, but for the sake of everyone I should not be doing it by myself. DracaenaGuianensis (talk) 03:43, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

[edit]

Hello Mako001,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Important: Please update user script installation

[edit]

Hi there, you currently have a user script installed from Anne drew Andrew and Drew. Several weeks ago, I changed my username to Anne drew, and unfortunately, due to an issue with script redirects, the scripts you have installed under my old username no longer function.

To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew with Anne drew.

If any of this is unclear, please ping Anne drew for help. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!

Thanks – Anne drew

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:50, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
