Enoch Fenwick scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 15 May 2023. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 15, 2023, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/May 2023. I suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks and congratulations on your work. Gog the Mild (talk) 17:39, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you today for the article, "about a Jesuit who, fascinatingly, followed in his brother's footsteps in becoming the president of Georgetown University, which did not go so well, and he abandoned the presidency and refused to return." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:17, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
enoch fenwick
Ergo Sum, i had a quick question regarding this blurb for this article. i believe the tfa coordinators generally prefer to run blurbs with a relevant image if possible, and am assuming that no image has currently been selected for this blurb because you had not included one in the tfa/r nomination. i understand that, from the fac nomination, you were unable to find an appropriate image of fenwick for the article. in case you were not aware, biographical tfa blurbs are not restricted to use only images of the featured subject; see, for example, this blurb, which featured a photo of the college at which the featured subject taught. what are your thoughts about using the depiction of the georgetown campus currently featured in the fenwick article? dying (talk) 22:30, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- That would be fine. I think a historical image of Georgetown's campus, perhaps the one included in the Enoch Fenwick article, would be suitable. Ergo Sum 18:41, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- sounds good. i will submit a request at wp:errors, as i am not an administrator myself. thanks, Ergo Sum. dying (talk) 20:59, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
Accusation of payment
Hello @Ergo Sum! I just want to ask for help regarding user Elttaruuu and their recent edits (edit warring) on Matty Healy's page. They have used the edit summaries as well as the talk page to accuse me of being paid (I guess they think me the paid PR person of some celebrity) to edit the page with no evidence whatsoever. Because of this they have been putting the paid tag template on the page without even opening a discussion about it on the talk page. I have never experienced this in my years here on Wiki and I just felt thoroughly taken-aback, and now, insulted. I am asking advice on how to proceed with this. Thank you very much. Maxen Embry (talk) 13:26, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- I'm already on this; you don't need to add the same message to multiple administrators' talk pages. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 13:28, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Narita Viliamu Tahega DYK
Hi, @Ergo Sum:, thanks for reviewing my DYK. This is my fourth DYK nom (fifth DYK), so I do not need QPQ at this point to move forward. I'm planning to start reviewing soon but need to spend time understanding the reviewer role before taking it up.
Also, to clarify (doesn't seem to matter in this case because the article qualifies), how are you counting the 5x? I made this as a new draft from a redlink then moved in over, but now I see the history from the deleted article incorporated into the edit history. Oddly the first edit in the history is from someone else, but my user data says I created the article (in the "Articles created" function). Is this what you're counting? Upjav (talk) 14:00, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- Whoops, for some reason I thought I saw 5 DYKs instead of 4 on the QPQ counter. As for 5x expansion, I used the Simple Word Counter in the DYK toolbox (visible when you edit a DYK hook). I'll go ahead and promote the hook. Ergo Sum 14:28, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks! Upjav (talk) 14:36, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
GAN sort order
I saw this edit. Earlier this year, they re-ordered the GAN sort system to sort by review to GA ratio instead of purely by age, so that's why your new one is getting moved up in the queue. Hog Farm Talk 15:36, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. I didn't realize that. Thanks. Ergo Sum 17:02, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
DYK for Edward D. Boone
On 27 May 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Edward D. Boone, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Edward D. Boone was the last surviving member of his 1851 graduating class from the College of the Holy Cross? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Edward D. Boone. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Edward D. - Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.
After leaving a comment on the template talk page, I went back and tried adding manual links into the John Bapst article. If this is too cumbersome, feel free to revert and try a different method. (I think you can use {{harvid}} with a single un-piped parameter for weird dates.) Hello, Ergo Sum,
I hope all is well with you. If you move a category (which you should only do in special cases), you can leave the original category as a category redirect. Just use the tag {{category redirect|New category title}} on the page. It's not really an empty category which would require it to sit for 7 days in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion, it's a redirect. We have thousands of category redirects, not as many as article redirects but still quite a few. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:54, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I just figured since I had created both the now-deleted category and the new category within mere moments of each other and the first category contained nothing and nothing linked to it, I would save everyone the trouble and just go ahead and delete it. Ergo Sum 23:20, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

BorgQueen (talk) 00:03, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
The article Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Subject does not appear to be independently notable (notability cannot be inherited from its unquestionably notable parent organization)
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ElKevbo (talk) 22:58, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
945 Madison Avenue is on the state register. Where do I find the designation number, date, nomination form, or other details? Thanks, and thanks for creating and adding the designation to articles! ɱ (talk) 16:55, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- The Cultrual Resource Information System (CRIS) contains all properties listed on the New York State Register of Historic Places (in addition to other things). It is not the most user-friendly site. You can refine by county and then search around on the map. There may be multiple designations for a particular property, so you want to click on the yellow squares, which will then show you the UNS number in a popup. Ergo Sum 16:58, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ah, I remember using this once, yeah, not always that helpful or intuitive. For 945 Madison, I can see it's listed. Is "06101.004417" really the designation number? ɱ (talk) 17:02, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm seeing 06101.004417 as the USN. The date is under the "NR Status" tab (after clicking the magnifying glass) on the line "SR Listed." Ergo Sum 17:06, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Gotcha. USN seems to be a "Unique Site Number", not sure if it's really the state register designation. ɱ (talk) 17:21, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- I just figured it had to be because its the only unique number that CRIS uses other than the NR number and I haven't seen any other databases that use the same USN number. Ergo Sum 17:24, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, hm. I know for the Columbus Register of Historic Properties there's a municipal code entry. Is there something similar for the state of New York? Is there any other database or list besides what's on CRIS? ɱ (talk) 17:28, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Not that I'm aware of. Ergo Sum 18:08, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Then I take it there's no easy way to make a list at the article you started, or determine a total count even? Are you just manually searching notable buildings to see if you can add the designation? ɱ (talk) 18:33, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Perhaps email the State Historic Preservation Office? Ours in Ohio is responsive. New York's might just be able to send you a list with designation numbers... ɱ (talk) 18:35, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm taking the manual approach. I'll see what I can find out. Ergo Sum 18:38, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:New York State Register of Historic Places in Sullivan County
A tag has been placed on Category:New York State Register of Historic Places in Sullivan County indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:04, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)

Edit of Georgtown University
Look I understand you disagree on Georgetown university. But you were putting the numbers just for undergraduate, while I put for all cases of academic study at Georgetown. That is why the numbers were different. Also why did you revert by AutoCAD edit, I had that edit from January 2023 and some people said it is opinion based and changed the "introductory paragraph." I disagree all my statements in the introductory paragraph of AutoCAD were factual and could be proven by many users of AutoCAD and other Autodesk products such as Fusion360 and Inventor. Stay cool, Jamal Dieffenbacher Jamal Dieffenbacher (talk) 23:55, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- I have no idea what you're referring to regarding AutoCAD. Regarding Georgetown, everything added to Wikipedia needs to be supported by reliable sources. Your edits were not only not supported by any references, but were contradicted by the existing reliable sources. Also, as a matter of fact, the numbers of presidents and justices you were adding was wrong, no matter which way one counts it. Ergo Sum 17:28, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Question regarding a draft
Hi! I've been an admirer of your work regarding Georgetown: work has taken me such that I end up on and around the campus quite frequently, so it is eminently handy to refer to your body of work rather than wondering about the significance of any given building. I'm beginning what I anticipate will be a 24-month project to bring articles on the College of William & Mary up to a similar standard. My first stop is this: User:Pbritti/sandbox/Campus of the College of William & Mary. I plan to publish it to the mainspace this week, so any comments or suggestions you may have are welcomed. I've already received good guidance on trimming (which I will do either tomorrow or Thursday). Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 20:19, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2023).
- Following a talk page discussion, the Administrators' accountability policy has been updated to note that while it is considered best practice for administrators to have notifications (pings) enabled, this is not mandatory. Administrators who do not use notifications are now strongly encouraged to indicate this on their user page.
- Following a motion, the Extended Confirmed Restriction has been amended, removing the allowance for non-extended-confirmed editors to post constructive comments on the "Talk:" namespace. Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.
- The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 11, 2023 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
