New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Crystallizedcarbon,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

here. Sorry.-- Deepfriedokra 03:04, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

No problem @Deepfriedokra: Thank you for the ping and for all your efforts. I am sorry for the negative attention that trying to help has brought you. I hope you feel better soon. I am also still getting over a very persistent cold. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 21:04, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Sources of 1Sports

Hi, I'm writing an article of the newly launched sports channel, but due to no source it got declined. Now I've added multiple sources collected from google as well official website, so if you can review it and tell me what else I needed to do so then I can publish it & make the viewers see the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IamTRoy4 (talkcontribs) 13:24, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello @IamTRoy4: I have made some changes to the article. Also please note that press releases are not valid to establish notability as they are not considered independent coverage. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 21:00, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Mohammadreza Goodary

Hello Crystallizedcarbon,

Appreciate your prompt feedback. I added the citation that shows Mohammadreza Goodary has won bronze medal in Yongmudo in Men's (-90 kg) at Chungju 2019 championships. I also corrected the external links and the category, and published the draft for review. Please check. Draft: Star Wars Complete Guide

Hello Crystallizedcarbon, Thank you for leaving me a message on my talk page. I will look at my draft and make sure that my article is unique. I will continue to work on it, please monitor it and possibly delete the deletion tag. Thank you, Dswitz10734 (talk) 13:21, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Dswitz10734: Please review Wikipedia:Your first article for information about the requirements for creating new articles. Some important points to keep in mind are the coverage by reliable sources and if it is not a duplicate topic. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 17:02, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Mohammadreza Goodary

Thank you for replying to my message left on your talk page. Sorry, but I'm a bit confused now. This is my first contribution and want to know and learn how I can get it published. What is the difference between a Reference and an external link when both are links to pages outside Wikipedia? The problem with my draft is that because a reference in a Wikipedia Article should be a reference to a Wikipedia entry? and an external link refers to anything outside Wikipedia? Another question: for example in one of my references, the website that is mentioned in a Wikipedia article has published the results of a title won by the person in my draft and because of that, it's a reliable reference. Isn't it? Thank you again for your time and advice and help.--Abmousavi (talk) 17:53, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Abmousavi: As I explained in my comment, you should read Help:Referencing for beginners. Please remember that External links belong only in the external link section. An inline reference is a citation to a reliable source that is inserted within the body of the article with an special tag and formating (as explained in the help guide). Links to other Wikipedia articles within the body of the article are called wikilinks and are encouraged but are not references and can not be used to source any content. Please review those two links above and if you still have any doubts please contact me again. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 17:59, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

speedy deletion of Tacha page tag

i saw you tagged a page i created for "speedy deletion", well, i never knew the article was previously deleted, but then the subject is highly notable in nigeria entertainment, after her moments in big brother house which was highly discussed in entaertainment, especially the above subject"Tacha" in the reality show, please i sincerly imploy you to make some google research about the subject and as well note the sources stated... Thanks for improving wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amosflash (talkcontribs) 15:33, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Amosflash: An article about the subject was previously declined as a draft and deleted various times. there was a deletion discussion back in December. Consensus was that the subject was notable only for the single event of her participation in big brother, where she did not win. References in the article are from before that date, so there is no evidence that in this few months she has gained additional notability to change that consensus. When creating new articles there is a notice if they had been previously deleted, it is a good idea to review the deletion discussions before to see if arguments for deletion could be addressed before creating it. I'm sorry that I can't be of help this time. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 15:46, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Crystallizedcarbon i understand she did not win but within those spaces, after the show, she has gain more recogntion from brands endorsing her to being verified across notable social media platforms, also i was creating the page as a neutral person hence i did not see the previously deleted discussion, perhaps not by this page name, i think its from 'symplytacha', they are a lot wide notable moment after the big brothers show, as applied to your basis. thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amosflash (talkcontribs) 15:52, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

@Amosflash: There are some new reliable sources from after the AfD, so I have withdrawn de speedy deletion request. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 16:13, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

The page is reviewed, but yet to be indexed by search engines, please can you help to improve and index it on search engines! You have more experience. Thank you Amosflash (talk) 05:35, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Amosflash: I have made edits to the article, I see you added the needed references. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 17:23, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Emo Nite

Hi I'd love to discuss how I can make my Emo Nite submission more neutral! Everything that's mentioned is information that I got from the articles I cited. Riahconway (talk) 22:00, 4 March 2020 (UTC)riahconway

Hello @Riahconway: I would start by condensing the article, you should not cite all the DJs that participated and I would also condense the chronological history section into prose keeping only the most notable facts. Also try avoiding terms like "its growing popularity". Let me know once you are done and I will be happy to review it. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 17:21, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Metalcraft (Staffs) Limited

Hello Can you define the statement 'not important enough'. Are you saying the company is not important enough in the area where it was established or not big enough in general terms. Difficult to know what this importance is. Thanks you BusandTrainMan (talk) 08:28, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello Would you please tell me why it isn't important enough, then I will proceed. Would creating a stub be a better option ? BusandTrainMan (talk) 16:39, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @BusandTrainMan: Please review Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). It explains our guidelines for assessing the notability of companies. If those requirements are not met you should not create an article or even a stub for the company. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 17:04, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Trouble (2019)

Well, worry no further because I just happen to have expanded it today. Go ahead and see for yourself. I couldn't do it yesterday because I was tired and it was very late at night. Now, if you wanna help, try adding a link to the movie in each actor's page. Already, I did the same with Conrad Vernon who not only voiced a character from that movie but also served as executive producer of this movie dedicated in memory of his dog, Linus who died in 2017.

Olivier Baghdadi (talk) 09:40, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Olivier Baghdadi: The article is missing references to meet our verifiability and notability requirements. Please find and add independent secondary reliable sources as references. Hello @Space2006: If you find enough sources with in depth coverage, I recommend creating the article either in draft space or in your sandbox first so it can be reviewed and then moved. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 19:09, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

If you find one let me know and I can add the first one so you can see how it's done. Regards. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 19:17, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Trouble

I said nothing about IMDb, that's why I left IMDb in the external links section. If you look at the references section closely again, you'll find 2 different sites. Problem is that the one from boxofficemojo is giving me errors when I try to enter it, which means the way I added a link to it is wrong.

This link below, see if you can link it properly in the references section:

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt6772524/?ref_=bo_se_r_1

PS: I did find one source from this link below if you look again:

https://www.cinenews.be/en/movies/trouble-1/

It's not much but it's a start.

PS: The movie is available on kimcartoon.to if you wanna have fun watching it.

Movie: https://kimcartoon.to/Cartoon/Trouble

Enjoy

Olivier Baghdadi (talk) 21:19, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Olivier Baghdadi: I added a reference to the article that you can use as a guide. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 08:26, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, but see if you can add that mojo link of that movie in the External Links section when you have time and if you know how. I tried but failed. Perhaps you will have better luck than me instead.

If in the future her show becomes popular and she receives the required coverage and you still want to re-create it. I recommend that you follow the AfC process to avoid deletion. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 13:47, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Mandy Rice-Davies applies

See WP:MANDY.

Sure, he denies it. The court says otherwise, and that wins. His denial is assumed (few people admit to domestic violence). If there's an ongoing appeal we can note that, but the court is the authority here, and if they say you're guilty, then you're guilty right up until a successful appeal is logged. Guy (help!) 22:10, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @JzG: The best place for this content dispute is the talk page of the article, so other editors can get involved. WP:MANDY is just an essay. While I could agree in some cases, for this subject that claim had some implications with the board of directors of one of his companies mentioned in the body. It is covered by multiple sources and atribution is provided. But most importantly, the current version of the lead is the result of a very long and hard consensus building process in the talk page to find the right balance. Any proposed change must go through that same process, If there is consensus to remove it then I will of course have no objection. The place for that is the talk page of the article. Regards. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 22:23, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for taking it to the talk page. I copied parts of my response there. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 22:34, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Karl Ferris

Hi there, Crystallizedcarbon,

As you seem to be the latest person holding the reins for Keeping this over 10 year article, as recommended by 4 of your Talk colleges. Because there are plenty of sources and citations for the facts in this article, plus many Wiki interlinks to related sources on many other wiki pages. Therefore, could you please just reinstate it as is?

Please let me know of progress and any quires,

Thank you, Karl Ferris - Google Sources: https://www.google.com/search?q=karl+ferris&oq=karl+ferris&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i59l3j69i64j69i60l3.10169j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Ferris1182 (talk) 18:53, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Ferris1182: all content in the article must be sourced by adding in-line references to reliable sources. It seems pretty clear that the article won't be deleted, but most of the information will be trimmed if it is not properly sourced. Do you know how to add references? This guide may help you: Help:Referencing for beginners. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. It is best to use sources that are independent and all must be from reliable sources. As the subject of the article, adding reliable sources as references is fine, but if you want to edit the content you should request changes in the talk page instead. Congratulations on your great art. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 21:14, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Crystallizedcarbon, Thanks for your advice on citations and pictures changes, and I will endeavour to do both. But as I am a non experienced editor of Wiki articles, can I just add citations while editing, where it now states [citation needed]? Regarding the notices: The following images, used in this article, have been nominated for deletion: And I have clicked on the 7 picture links that said they were questionable and added the same pictures from Wiki sources = "Fair Use". Is this correct? Or should I just edit and replace the pictures with the same ones I have found being used elsewhere on Wiki? Also in Edit, can I just remove some text that I can provide citations for?

I would appreciate your advice and help with this, Thanks, Karl Ferris Ferris1182 (talk) 21:25, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Ferris1182: Yes, you can add references to reliable sources that back the content of a paragraph right where it says "citation needed" use the "ref" tags as explained in the help page I sent you. I will review it anyways to check it's OK. If there are other images in Commons (used elsewhere) that are OK then use those. Yes, please feel free to removed any content that was added by yourself for which you can't provide citations. I hope that helps. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 21:33, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Karl Ferris

Thanks for explaining...and I will try to correct things in the following days. FYI: I am only editing this original article by Michael Goldstein because I have lost contact with him, years ago, and there were corrections to make in a few facts and I wanted to include a few more relevant pictures.

Please let me know when it is all okay, or inform me of any further problems. Thank you, KarlFerris1182 (talk) 22:46, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Page mover granted

Hello, Crystallizedcarbon. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Help that Behzad Qasemi page not be deleted

Hi my friend, I hope you are well. I checked the sources related to Behzad Qasemi page and he is known in Iran for his reputation, that's why I created the page. If you help, this page will remain. Thank you, dear friend, for your help--BenYaamin (talk) 21:57, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello BenYaamin, this page was created in the past, but it was deleted after a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Behzad_Qasemi. The reason for deletion was the lack of enough coverage by reliable sources to meet our notability guidelines. As far as sources, This new version adds only an interview that is recent, but it provides no independent coverage of the subject, so the AfD decision stands, if in the future he receives enough coverage you should follow the Wikipedia:Articles for creation process to avoid deletion.--Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 07:33, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi dear, I have added another source to the article, all sources are official news agencies, thank you for preventing the quick removal of the page.--BenYaamin (talk) 10:44, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello @BenYaamin: unfortunately CSEC.news is a self-published site, so it does meet our criteria for reliable sources. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 15:35, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Crystallizedcarbon, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

I hope your hopes are high and expecting this change.

I am writing to you in the light of an Article that was deleted and I think you were part of the final deletion process.

The page is filed under TACHA and it was deleted after a discussion to delete the page was held.

The reason for deleting the page was based on false truth, false narratives. That page needs to be reinstated and I don't know how to go about it.

Thank you. Anonymousbeauty2018 (talk) 01:53, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, @Anonymousbeauty2018: The article was deleted after a second AfD discussion. The decision was that there was not enough in-depth coverage from reliable sources to justify inclusion. Only If there is sufficient new in-depth coverage from reliable sources you should try to recreate it. To do so, you should follow the Articles for creation process. Regards, --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 07:57, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

@Anonymousbeauty2018: Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tacha. No, you should not create it unless there is sufficient new in-depth coverage from reliable sources. Hello @Hemant 2002: Don't worry, there is no hurry. You have 7 days to add at least one reference to a reliable source with coverage of the subject to meet avoid the deletion for lack of sources. If in that time you can back some claims of notability you can take all the time you need to improve it. If you have questions about how to add references you can check this guide: Help:Referencing for beginners. Regards. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 18:11, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Hello again @Hemant 2002: Since you added at least one source I removed the deletion template. I have moved the article to draft space (it is now at Draft:Donald Patrick Gaulstan) so you can take all the time you need to improve it. Articles need references from independent reliable sources to justify inclusion. In its current state it would have been deleted. Your first task is to find in depth coverage from multiple sources to establish notability. If you need help you can contact me. Regards. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 08:34, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Shamelessly deleting my articles

Fuck you. I've created at least 5 pages with 100,000 characters and you've just shamelessly deleted or cleaned them because of your "GUIDELINES". Star Wars could have 10000 articles by itself by what I posted are "UNNECESSARY". You know what, you are not paying me. I'll take my Los Angeles Knight Riders page to Fandom and copy paste it. Fuck you! I am aman goyal (talk) 10:52, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello @I am aman goyal: Please review WP:E You should always Assume good faith and never make personal attacks in our project. It is a violation of our policies and a cause for possible administrative sanctions. If you read again the message I sent you you will see that I did not delete your article. I just moved it to draft space, so you could take your time working on it to add the needed references and avoid deletion. New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Crystallizedcarbon,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.
