My comment to East Bay High school

Is very much accurate it is rumored to be torn down in the next 7 years as well as invested with rats and roaches. Have you ever been there? No. You haven't. Don't delete my comments.

Wikipedia does not report rumours, however. If it's going in the article, it should be sourced to a reliable source, preferably a secondary source. —C.Fred (talk) 01:24, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:LisaLopesImg.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:LisaLopesImg.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:17, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the Help

Hi C. Fred!

I wanted to thank you for helping to revert vandalism on the Witness Lee page. I think it happened on a weekend, during which I generally don't even touch a computer (I like to do other things than be on a computer on the weekends; I have enough of computers from school and work). But I do have 2 questions for you:

  1. How did you catch the vandalism so quickly? Is there a list of potential acts of vandalism somewhere?
  2. Why did you not put a warning on the Paperroses talk page? Was it because it seemed like the user created the account for the sake of that one act of vandalism and would never use it again?

Thanks again.

Sosthenes12 (talk) 01:40, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Sosthenes12

Hi! In response to your two questions, first, I tend to watch the list of recent changes made by new editors. (Go to your contributions, and it's a search option here.) So, I see lots of edits made by newly-registered accounts.
Second, I opted against a warning because they made one edit and were gone. If they made a second edit, I'd have given them a message with pointers to our guidelines and a warning. But for one bad edit, I figured I'd quietly revert and deny them any recognition for it, including a warning. —C.Fred (talk) 03:02, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't handle requests to email users the content of deleted pages; I just don't do that via email. You'll need to go to WP:Requests for undeletion and get an administrator there to email you the page content, if you want a copy of the deleted text. —C.Fred (talk) 02:43, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

ComputerTel

Hi Fred, yes please, could you move the page, as you suggest. Much appreciated. SarahJane H2O (talk) 14:47, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Can you advise

Hi Fred, Wondered if you could advise. By moving the page, it now appears a little messy to access it. You need to find the link in the User Page and click it, to get to the moved page now. Is there a neater way to access that page, that you know please? Thanks for any help you can offer. I realise I can't change my User Page Name to ComputerTel as that is unauthorised, but any advise would be greatfully received. Many thanks SarahJane H2O (talk) 10:01, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

It is a little messy, but that's okay. It's in draft form right now. There's a link on your talk page, so you can get to it easily. Any editors you ask to review the page will be able to find the page. Plus, it's under the general heading of articles for creation, so that will get some people who are generally looking at pages under development and wanting to help out.
Once the article is "ready for prime time"—when there are multiple independent reliable sources and a clear demonstration of the company's notability—then it can get moved to main article space. —C.Fred (talk) 18:12, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

I've noticed it's back. This could be interesting for background. The company seems to be notable. Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 16:41, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Amphetamine synthesis

Why do you think that the Methamphetamine#Synthesis and Substituted amphetamine#Synthesis are an appropriate level of detail? They go into specific synthesis steps, and link to actual syntheses. There are specific instructions for which steps need to be heated, what kind of catalysts to use, and common pitfalls. Isn't MDMA#Chemistry a more appropriate level of detail compliant with WP:NOTHOWTO? Josh Joaquin (talk) 04:29, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism Help

Hi C.Fred!

I talked to you before about a user called Paperroses who created a brand new account and then vandalized a page called Witness Lee. He recently just vandalized a page called Watchman Nee with two of his edits, both of which I undid. He returned to Witness Lee with two more obvious acts of vandalism, which I undid. He further vandalized the Living Stream Ministry page with two edits that I undid. What do I do next? I want to use a level 3 warning but am not sure how to proceed.

Sosthenes12 (talk) 02:02, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Sosthenes12

Hi C.Fred!

I saw what you added to the talk page of paperroses. Thanks. What happens if he keeps trying to do these things? Is it obvious to you that these edits are more angry ranting than constructive edits? Why would someone do something like this on Wikipedia?

Reporting Dispute Resolution

Dear "C. Fred". This is in reference to the article "Greater Middle East". In the "View history" section, I see: (cur | prev) 15:17, 2 March 2013‎ C.Fred (talk | contribs)‎ . . (22,190 bytes) (+16,279)‎ . . (Undid revision 541723732 by 99.235.25.103 (talk) - unexplained wholesale deletion) (undo)

In fact, I have explained the deletion twice in the TALK section under "Relevance of article". This article has been consistent in context from 2006 until February 2013. For the last few weeks, an attempt is being made to generalize the article to the extent of triviality. This was done by user "WashingtonPrime".

I have opened a dispute resolution for this case which you can see at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard#Greater_Middle_East — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.235.25.103 (talk) 11:02, 15 March 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.235.25.103 (talk)

Deletion review for J-Pimp

An editor has asked for a deletion review of J-Pimp. Hi C.Fred, the history of the Anthony Ausgang article shows you deleted an article on June 4, 2010. There was a note to contact you to review any new article with new content. American football

It's about the revert, you know the one. I agree with your rationale, but I think an undo was unnecessary. You see, the way I worded it accounted for that. Here's what you gave as a rationale:

it flows better than "kicking (but not punting)", though

My wording was simply "kicking." Not "kicking (but not punting)": I don't know if you're working from memories of past traumatic arguments or if your cache just needs cleared, but I wrote nothing about punting. It doesn't need to be any more specific than "kicking": That covers all the bases without getting into excessive detail. We can't acknowledge a ridiculously rare edge-case scenario in the lead, and we can't bow to pedants who insist that we do so. Punts are kicks, so if we leave it as "kicking," then it covers all varieties of kicks without getting into excessive detail. Do we agree on this? If you're worried about know-it-alls editing nitpicky stuff back in, maybe we can place a comment warning future editors not to mess with that phrasing? Dementia13 (talk) 15:31, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Exactly, punts are kicks! Points cannot be scored from a punt in American football, only from the other two types of legal kicks. My concern was providing that information consistently with the rugby articles. However, both of those articles push the type of kick down to detail articles on drop goals. They don't even mention method of scoring in their respective introductions. Based on that, then, kicking is sufficient for the intro. —C.Fred (talk) 23:27, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
I have no issue with the new wording. The only reason I specified the drop-kick when I wrote the text is that, like C.Fred said, saying just 'kicking' could lead to the erroneous conclusion that you can punt for a field goal. Considering the rugby union article (which I based much of the article structure off of) doesn't specify it, I don't have a problem. Toa Nidhiki05 02:27, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. If it's OK then, I'm going to revert it to "kicking." Variations like drop kicks and tee kicks can be covered in the body. It might seem like a lot of noise over a single word, but the talk page suggests that it's been an issue before, so I wanted to make sure that there was a consensus. BTW, it looks like the two of you have been active in maintaining this page. I mentioned on the talk page that this would take a lot of thought, and that's how it goes when the page is already in good shape. It's easy to work with a page that's a mess: Everything needs changed, so there are few decisions to make. A page like this is much trickier, and that speaks to the quality of work that's gone into it. Dementia13 (talk) 12:59, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Warangal

I notice your revert at Warangal. Are we on the right track here? This is clearly a reinstatement of material that was previously removed, aside from the excessive addition of images. It is quite likely that I was the one who removed it but I'm not delving around the history right now.

I am happy to start a discussion on the article talk page but this article has in the past attracted people that, for want of a better phrase, might as well be working for the local tourist board. There is a significant difference between content relating to the administrative area in which Warangal lies (the "district", in Indian admin terms) and the city itself. Districts in India often share the same name as their principal town/city, and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of them. For example, the Thousand Piller Temple (sic) is located in a completely different city within the district and that city has its own article, as does the district.

The recent additions are also clear POV and, unless we trawl back through the history, they are effectively unsourced. Some also look suspiciously like copyright violations but that is a gut instinct based on past involvement with articles such as this (Moonriddengirl approves gut instinct, which rather surprised me at the time!) My gut instinct also tells me that this is a sock but SPI will never link IPs to accounts. - Sitush (talk) 00:25, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

My revert was a simple technical one: there was a duplication of the {{reflist}} tag (well, one reflist and one <references />), and there was an addition of "Refere book, Bathukamma Panduga Patalu Mariyu Sampradhayalu by Thatikonda Vishnu Murthy, Akunoor, Warangal Dist., AP" into the references section. I didn't look any further into the article than that. —C.Fred (talk) 00:29, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. Looks like I will have to take it to the talk page. Somewhere there is guidance regarding article focus - I need to remember where that is before I get involved in what is likely to become a fractious discussion or a bout of edit warring. - Sitush (talk) 00:31, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

AUPD

Fred, with all do respect, if you feel a page for the Anderson university police dept is not "notable", you need to delete Butler University's dept page also. I will create the page in a sandbox and introduce it again. I will contest any further deletions using that reasoning. Butler is another private university with an active police agency. Irishfan2005 (talk) 01:57, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Other stuff exists. I'd have to look at content about the AUPD before I passed judgment on whether it's notable or not. However, I think it's a steep hurdle for a campus police department to be notable.
That said, both times I deleted the article on Anderson's page, it was under CSD A3: an article with no content, other than a rephrasing of the article title. —C.Fred (talk) 02:01, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Less than 30% of all private universities with 2,500 students have their own armed police departments [1], so I feel it is a notable feature. And yes, other stuff exists, but I would ask a review of that page if this one is contested. I will add that information to the main campus page and not create a separate one. But, the initial reason why I tried to make this page was due to the Butler U. page that I found. Irishfan2005 (talk) 18:28, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Dear bro,

I am quite new to Wikipedia (i have joined only 3-4 months before). I am a Indian citizen and a school going kid reading in class 10th in B.J.E.M School. I don't know much English, My mother-tongue is Oriya.

Today i saw that my uploaded file, File:Windows 8.1 Build 9374 screenshot with proof of the installation setup and original signature.png, has been listed in Wikipedia:Files for deletion I CAN'T GET WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY HERE.

I would be very happy if you get me know what is this.

My first worry was that we can't have an image of Windows 8.1 on our site, at all, until the software is released. That's been cleared up.
My concern now is whether the reader really gains anything by looking at the picture, other than some general look and feel of the new product. What does it add, having the picture? What does the reader learn that they couldn't from just words? —C.Fred (talk) 21:32, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

G'day, Thanks for your efforts on Ulladulla High School. I wonder if their are BLP issues here too. Star Trek

Hi C.Fred, I understand you may not like what I added in, but rather then simply deleting it, why not correct it if you feel I posted something wrong. And yes, before you comment, I have extensive star trek knowledge and the mistakes in the movie are correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lordan Leyoub (talkcontribs) 03:37, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Star Trek

First of all, because I have yet to link the page (I AM new at doing this), that does NOT mean what I posted is incorrect. AS an example, the part about kirk being born on the ship instead of Iowa like he was supposed to be, is actualy in the link for james t. kirk right here on wikipedea. I simply have not yet learned how to link that Wikipedia page to this one as a reference. Again, that does not invalidate what I added, and if I would stop having people removing it, perhaps I would be able to find out how exacaly to link it and reference it.

Rather then saying "No no, don't post that!" maybe some help with how to fix it and post it correctly would be MORE usefull.

Sorry in advance for the rant, but I don't go around deleteing what other people add in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lordan Leyoub (talkcontribs) 04:06, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

your quantonics speedy delete

Quantonics is notable and not any more unambiguously promotional than many of the belief systems presented like mainstream religions' belief systems, or cults' belief systems or what maybe Higgs said about the likely existence of the boson before anyone took him seriously, know what I mean? The Beatles were turned down all over town before people got it. Let's not omit from the Wikipedia cutting edge theory like Quantonics. That would set a bad precedent. We should recognize that this is not a quack but a well researched and sustained devotion to explaining a complex theoretical construction. How is that bad for this encyclopedia? Thank you. --108.227.134.169 (talk) 03:47, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

C.Fred, I noticed you WP:Reverted what appeared to have been a good faith edit of this article. I think WP:Undo with an explanation in the edit summary would have been perceived as less harsh. I'm not questioning the result (I assume that a subcategory was included in the category), only the way you went about it. Some editors are sensitive on the issue. The issue is it was a bulk edit: the IP added the category to over 100 articles. That's why I went for the revert. There was an edit summary on the first article I found, Charlotte Armstrong.(diff) —C.Fred (talk) 01:27, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Obviously, I was completely ignorant of that. No disrespect intended. 7&6=thirteen () 01:29, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
You have removed the "American novelist" category on one page I've found so far, ignoring the discussion on the "Category: American novelists" talk page (not to mention media controversy). People are fixing this problem. Please don't revert these. Avt tor (talk) 17:38, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, what Avt tor said. You wrote: "don't need parent cat since she's already in subcat"--but the category isn't set up that way. A large number of female authors were removed (apparently by a single Wikipedian) from the main category, while leaving the male authors in place. So those of us who are re-adding the parent category are fixing something that someone did wrong. --Elysdir (talk) 17:57, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
You are aware, I hope, that a vast number of women writers were deleted from category: American novelists, and that this has been pointed out as sexism in Wikipedia in the New York Times, among other places? You seem to be reverting edits to the articles of some women writers that have done to put the (correct) category back onto the articles. If you wish to do this, please note that you will be antagonizing a lot of people who are currently discussing this and attempting to build consensus on Category talk:American novelists and on Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2013 April 24. Geoffrey.landis (talk) 18:42, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Given that the editor adding the category didn't use an edit summary, I stand by my reverts. I also stand by my comments in the CfD, once I became aware of it, and my decision to step away from the category additions and deletions. If consensus is to merge, a bot will handle it within a week's time. —C.Fred (talk) 23:53, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Sadly, the irresponsible article in the NYT has created a lot of silly drama. The author should have first made some effort to understand how Wikipedia categorisation, before using her powerful platform to incite people to start changing things.

This has led to a lot of hot air based on a mistaken understanding of how WP categories work. For example, it is quite wrong of Geoffrey.landis to say women writers were deleted from category: American novelists. They were not deleted from the category: they were moved to a sub-category.

The NYT article claims that Male novelists on Wikipedia, however — no matter how small or obscure they are — all get to be in the category “American Novelists.” Again, not true. They are there only if they have not been diffused to other sub-categories. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:39, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, I added the Food Program external link to Tracy's page since it contains important information regarding her approach to fitness, nutrition and wellness that her audience finds valuable. Can you please allow it?

Your opinion on Jros83

Hello. On Jros83's talk page, you can see in the history, he made yet another response that doesn't appear to be in good faith. I feel as though he isn't trying to help Wikipedia, but rather condescendingly criticize anybody whose view differs. Take a look at his contributions. Yes, we're all, especially me, guilty of getting upset over things and acting in bad faith such as this, and getting personal as I probably am now, but it is a continual thing. Should administrative action be taken here, or am I simply not able to see this clearly because of my obvious bias towards this? Thank you, I truly do value your opinion ChaseAm (talk) 04:37, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Please cease your witchhunt, Chase. I had 1 (ONE!) run-in with you and that is it. Please let it go, as it has been resolved. Also, be mindful off who you enlist for aid (Benlisquare) as they may not be the model of integrity. Jersey John (talk) 01:59, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello Fred

Bringing this to your attention because you've had some experience with this. I feel user ChaseAM is on some sort of "witchhunt" if you will concerning me. He/she is also currently trying to enlist user Benlisquare in their antics. That's particuarly malicious because Benlisquare is not the model of integrity, as well, Benlisquare posted private information he gathered about me in an article's talk page, info he gathered from having a better knowledge of searching someone's IP than I have apparently.

So in light of Chase's impending witchhunt, and the fact that he is trying to enlist the aid of a serious troublemaker, I am interested in and eager for some sort of firm resolution to this issue. I'm cluless as to how to go about it as I have never had this problem in the years I have been using Wikipedia. Thank you in advance! Jersey John (talk) 01:58, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

While we're at it, Jros83, could you stop leaving your nonsense on my talkpage? Eik Corell (talk) 02:17, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
This does not concern you, and I have notleft anything on your page since the World of Tanks issue was resolved. Jersey John (talk) 03:32, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
What is this[4] then? Eik Corell (talk) 03:57, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
A separate issue? Look Eik, I realize you have a grievance with me, but don't get roped in by Chase's antics, nor piggyback off of it. Please? I apologize here and now for any hassle I gave you considering WoT. Please have a little more decency than to see Chase's crusade as a means to get back at me for any perceived sleight. Jersey John (talk) 04:11, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
If you want to discuss it further, we can do so on our talk pages. I feel bad enough clogging up Fred's talk page such as I have so far.Jersey John (talk) 04:13, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Regarding Benlisquare

You DO realize Benlisquare is using Wikipedia for malicious attacks against other users, yes? Why do I get the feeling I am not getting a fair shake here? Jersey John (talk) 03:32, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

No, I don't realize that. I was about to check his contribution history since you mentioned it. If you could provide a diff to one of those alleged attacks, that will speed the process up. —C.Fred (talk) 03:34, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Right. Will do. Jersey John (talk)

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Sinosphere&diff=next&oldid=552692142

Also, I notice Chase is digging into my history and contacting other editors for the express purpose of persecuting me. This whole situation is silly. I just want it done with. Check Chase's talk page to see what I mean. Jersey John (talk) 03:38, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

It looks like simple searches based on username. It may be poor form to bring up cross-site behaviour, but it's not an invasion of privacy to search for your username on other sites. —C.Fred (talk) 03:39, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
I recently realized that is what it was, and you're correct, it's not an invasion. But you're also correct that it is in poor form, and that seems to be the overriding issue here. Poor form on my part initially with hassling Chase for having removed my comment, despite the fact that he is soverign over his own talk page; poor form for Chase to make a mountain out of a mole hill; poor form for chase to contact someone like Benlisquare for aid; poor form for Chase to go to Eik's page and do the same thing... You hit the nail on the head! this has been nothing buit a string of "poor form" and despite that I extended a genuine olive branch to Chase and am trying to be cooperative here. Now I'd simply like to be divested of this issue. If there's no official action pending against me I'd like to be on my way... Jersey John (talk) 03:44, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

(and when you put this in perspective that it all started because Chase thought my telling someone that they were falling for a troll was not in good faith or something similiar... That's all it took to start all this nonsense?)

Hi C. Fred, I have to agree with your revert on this page, since it is unreferenced BLP info. But there is also a political section that is totally unreferenced. If we remove that section, then the article becomes rather pointless. Your opinions? Cheers. Arctic Kangaroo 03:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Yes, the long block of text about politics is just as subject to removal, especially as I read some of the tone of it. —C.Fred (talk) 03:54, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
(no talkback needed for this discussion) What about restoring the deleted text and leaving the remaining text alone, then we just add a tag to say that more refs are needed? As mentioned earlier, if we remove the "Politic" text, then the article is pointless. Unless it can be speedied. Cheers. Arctic Kangaroo 03:57, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
The issue with the block of text I deleted is the negative allegations in the text. That's a lot harder to justify under BLP: all material in a BLP should be sourced, but the more it casts negative aspersions, the more imperative sourcing is. —C.Fred (talk) 00:03, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Fred, thank you for your polite reply. I take the point you make re validation Brian Brendan Wright's nick name " The Milkman. " However using those rules, where have you seen verified the wrong explanation of this name ? " He always delivered. " Wright had his nick name way back in the late 60's. Customs quote the reason for this in the 1990's. How can a guess made by these people be accepted ? There is no validation or proof. It is like me saying you are called C Fred, because you always " see " the big picture. I read so many mistakes that are made in various Wikipedia pages. Most can only be word of mouth as I know they aren't true. Yet I KNOW the true reason of Wright's nick name as told to me by the man himself, we were only laughing about it last weekend on a visit to Whitemoor prison. I am not saying that should make this acceptable, but how is all the mis-information accepted when there can't be validation as it simply isn't true ? Thanks for your time in this. Rushcrew (talk) 07:59, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough. Since it's not backed by a reliable source, I've removed the nickname outright. —C.Fred (talk) 16:01, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Fred, much easier to talk to you when you are not only polite, but very clear with your explanation. I had to smile when I read your reply. Not what I wanted but totally fair. At least the false reason isn't out there anymore, and all the people who know Brian are aware of both the nick name, and the cause of it. I will not attempt to reinstate it unless I find a way I know you will approve of. I guess that means we won't be communicating any more, no doubt you will be glad. However,as you have been so engaging in our recent chats, I can say it was a pleasure. (Rushcrew (talk) 19:08, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Article about This is How we Fly

~ ~ ~ ~ Hello! I tried to add the band "This is How we Fly," the musician Caoimhín ó raghallaigh's Wiki Page, as it occupies a large portion of his business. The band starts to become a significant element in the Irish music scene and I find an article about the band should be in place. ~ ~ ~ ~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Playingwithmusic (talkcontribs) 12:21, 6 May 2013‎ (UTC)

The problem is, there's no evidence that the band has become a significant band. You'll need to provide multiple reliable sources that have given coverage to the band. See WP:BAND and WP:GNG for more guidance on the threshold of notability: any subject that is not notable should not have an article. —C.Fred (talk) 16:04, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

If I create accounts, do administrators know my ip address? How to know my ip address if I create accounts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fceefyahoo.ca (talkcontribs) 22:59, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

IP addresses aren't visible to administrators. However, if an account is blocked, then the IP that used it is automatically blocked as a result. Further, if there's suspected abuse of multiple accounts, a special sort of administrator (a "checkuser") can see the IP addresses of accounts.
The one other way your IP address could get revealed is if you edit by accident without logging in. —C.Fred (talk) 23:19, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

I Goofed

I am sorry about my mistake on tagging the Tamboclass user page as if it were an article for speedy deletion. I have tagged articles for speedy deletion in the past. I do know not to tag a user page and should have realized that. I simply was not diligent enough to notice that it was a user page, not an article. I really goofed on that one. I will be more alert. I also will apologize to the user. Donner60 (talk) 22:13, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

I left this message for User:Tamboclass: "I apologize for tagging your user page for speedy deletion because it had no context. I looked at it, thought it was a one sentence article which did not seem to mean much of anything, so I tagged it. Of course, the speedy deletion request was declined because the page is your user page, not an article. You can put whatever (within the bounds of decency, I believe) you want on your user page. It need not have any context to anyone but you. I know that but I simply did not notice it was a user page. I should have done better. Please take the opening welcome to wikipedia to heart. If you have a question, I will try to say or do something useful in reply. I hope your further experience with wikipedia will be good and, again, I apologize." Donner60 (talk) 01:39, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

I teach machine technology. A fundamental concept students have trouble with is a geometric radius. The length of a radius is used in many places in the design and drawing of mechanical devices to define the required curve without the the need for the curve being closed or otherwise forming a circle. I believe all users of Wikipedia wishing to understand what a radius is would be better served if they were given the following fundamental definition: radius is the two-dimensional, straight-line distance from the center of an arc to the arc. An arc should be defined as a two-dimensional curve with all points on the curve being equal-distance from a single point. An alternate definition of radius would be: radius is the straight-line distance from the center of an arc to the arc with the center point and all points of the curve lying in a single plane.

Sideline note: I was privileged to use a Computer Aided Manufacturing program (SmartCAM) in the 1990's which had a user interface for geometric construction similar to CAD which did not offer circle as a geometric shape. The user picked Arc and proceeded to define the arc by giving center location, radius length and degrees. When a circle was desired the degrees were 360.Chipmaker45 (talk) 02:27, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks - I didn't spot those deleted page moves. I don't think that Top Gun is Grawp. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 03:19, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

possible to restore the article?

Hello! I am beginner in add articles. Yesterday you deleted 2 of my article - Elena Efimova, Nadejda Zaslavskaya. Is it possible to recover them? I think that the reason is not correct (A7: Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject). Because these two people are very well known and respected in the field of Russian law. Articles written by professors of Moscow State University, they do not have false facts. What do I need to add them again? Sorry for the mistakes, I do not know much English. Sincerely, Anna. AnnaParfireva (talk) 14:55, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

There may be a translation issue. It looked like the articles were about students (candidates for a degree) rather than professors. Even so, not every professor is notable, so creating three or four articles at a time made them look less notable.
I would focus on finding sources written about Efimova and the others that are written by sources outside the university. That's one measure of notability, is whether the person is important enough that secondary sources—journalists and scholars outside their own school—have written about them. —C.Fred (talk) 16:21, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

You might want to consider either semi-protection or pending changes. Too much vandalism and addition of unsourced content as of late. — Confession0791 talk 17:34, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

how to upload Jordan Older image?

Thanks for your time on my article regarding Jordan Older. I can promise you it is all 100% factual and honest. How can I properly upload the image so it won't get deleted? Fussballspieler11 (talk) 03:04, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Well...you'll need to find another image. Wikimedia Commons does not allow any non-free images to be uploaded. Wikipedia allows non-free images to be uploaded but under strict conditions, and one of those is that a free image cannot otherwise be obtained. Since Jordan Older is alive, it is possible for a free image to be taken of him. Thus, non-free images of Older cannot be used in the article. Non-free images include photos taken at games by wire services; photos from programs, rosters, media guides, or team websites; photos from newspaper or magazine articles; and photos from the subject's website or Facebook profile (unless the images are clearly labeled as being under a free license). —C.Fred (talk) 03:12, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
Can I email him and ask him for permission to use it? How would that be done? Fussballspieler11 (talk) 03:32, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
WP:Donating copyrighted materials has details on the process. Note that it's not necessarily Older that you need to ask to donate the image. You have to ask the owner of the image, which may be the original photographer or the organization for whom the photo was taken. —C.Fred (talk) 03:34, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
I got it from his Facebook profile, can I ask him to post on his Facebook profile that it is a free image that can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons? Fussballspieler11 (talk) 03:32, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
He'd need to specify what license it's under; CC-BY-SA 3.0 is usually good. —C.Fred (talk) 03:34, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll see what I can do. Then can I undelete it or do I have to re-upload it? I don't want to bother you too much, but I read your comment about the use of bold. I'm reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style and it's quite long. Can you give me some quick tips on what to do so you can remove the "cleanup" warning from the article? Should I just remove all the bold in the article except for his name? I like to use the bold to make some of the main points stand out. Let me know if its not too much trouble. You have been very helpful. Thanks again! Fussballspieler11 (talk) 03:43, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Derek Acorah

Hi - I note your removal of my edit to the Derek Acorah Wikipedia page. I have not removed the item of controversy but have shortened it somewhat. My reason for doing this is that the ONE occasion where the above has been accused of fakery it is shrouded with intrigue. The facts surrounding the accusation are covered by a legal contractual confidentiality agreement and so Mr. Acorah has never been able to answer these accusations himself. Most Haunted was a heavily edited entertainment programme. Ciaran O'Keeffe was not the person who devised the alleged "test" (as confirmed by Yvette Fielding in this months "Haunted" digital magazine) but it was the work of another person. It was common for people to be scripted during the making of the programme even though this fact was not known to the viewing public. Mr. Acorah was merely following instructions but of course this fact was used against him when he gave in his notice to Living Television 12 months prior to his actual leaving of the programme. This matter took place eight years ago and has been used constantly by the Most Haunted programme makers in an effort to ruin his career. Although the fact cannot be taken away, I think short mention rather than extended coverage should be used on Wikipedia especially in the light of the current legal climate. Mr. Acorah conducts theatre demonstrations on more than 100 occasions each year and has done for over 20 years. He has made numerous television programmes with different productions companies. Never once has anybody ever accused him of cheating. This is one isolated incident where people are still determined after all this time to attempt to ruin him. It is no coincidence that since Mr. Acorah's leaving of the Most Haunted programme in 2005 the viewing figures dropped dramatically and continued to do so until the programme's demise almost three years ago.

Thanks for moderating my article

C.Fred,

I've supplied 3 or 4 reputable, 3rd party references proving notability according to Association Football notability.

One should be enough right?

  • 1))

- reference 7 lists the USL Pro Soccer League (USL 1 or 2) where the subject played 4 games in 2003, these are not the biggest leagues in the USA but they are listed as fully professional at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Fully_professional_leagues

  • 2))- reference 1 lists 3 teams in the Paulista Serie A and 1 team in the Brazilian Serie A, these are THE biggest leagues in Brazil and are listed as fully professional at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Fully_professional_leagues

  • 3)) - reference 3 lists that the subject played professionally in Brazil and Europe and so much so that he is able to orchestrate player transfers of local kids into the German Bundesliga

  • 4)) the official Sao Paulo FC fan site/blog from 1999 lists the same 3 teams as the Futebol Interior feature article, which I found on the first page of Futebol Interior, it would be hard to fake exactly matching facts between an article in 1999 and one in 2013, showing that the player played in the big leagues in Brazil, correct?

- reference 1 lists 3 teams in the Paulista Serie A and 1 team in the Brazilian Serie A, these are THE biggest leagues in Brazil and are listed as fully professional at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Fully_professional_leagues

- it also lists him as playing along site Sao Paulo FC star defender in Wilson

I've also read that the subject has been subject to a hostile take over of his film festival so I think that this may be the reason for the high amount of attention for a notable but not super famous soccer player. It may be, not saying that it is, an attempt to smear his reputation by those who attempted the hostile takeover.

I found this press release: http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/02/27/idUS120964+27-Feb-2009+PRN20090227

And this article, both outlining the hostile conflict with another group trying to take over his film festival business: http://www.vcreporter.com/cms/story/detail/will_the_real_ventura_film_festival_please_stand_up/7035/

For this reason I think that my article should have special consideration and be protected, if there is a feature for that on Wikipedia, or else these "flames" will continue forever. They have already been going on since 2007, which is about the time that the hostile takeover attempt started, according to the press release and reports.

My other logic for thinking these "flames" as frivilous is that there are literally thousands of other less notable, far less notable, American soccer players with existing articles on Wikipedia who have played in lower leagues, never played in the big leagues in Brazil, never went to Team USA training camp, etc.... just far less notable, and far less attention/contention. I think that by definition, the high attention to my article proves that the subject is famous and notable OR the recipient of a corporate smear campaign (or somehting elese?)

Another point I want to make is that it's not just the achievments of the subject in soccer, its the time when he did it. He started playing in Europe in 1993 and Brazil in 1994 when literally almost no Americans were doing it. There were probably less than 5 Americans starting for teams in 1993 in Europe. He's a true pioneer and notable for this reason. But you might have to be a soccer fan to understand this.

The subject should also be notable based on having founded and directed the largest film festival in Ventura County hosting Academy Award winning stars, but I want this to be a secondary emphasis. The fact that he played soccer professionally in Europe and Brazil and the USA AND does the film festival is rare and special in itself and is proven by the many feature articles like the one in Surfe Magazine and the VC Star.

I'm just trying to make sense of all this and maybe you can help. Thanks again for the Wikipedia ettiquite tips and mini-lessons on things like my signature. I would never have learned that without your help!

Fussballspieler11 (talk) 05:49, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Also on the subject's Facebook you can read old newspaper clippings listing other 1st division teams in other countries in Europe and other teams in Brazil and other international tournaments as well as other USL teams. I've been able to get them listed under the same license that you recommended. You can take a look at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151768592107813.1073741827.546612812&type=1&l=c2eefe3921 under the oldies photo album. They may not be usable as a reference but they may satisfy your curiousity as to if the subject is legitimate. You can also see pictures of the subject with Pele and with David Beckham on his Facebook page. Fussballspieler11 (talk) 05:55, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

  • NOTE this page was tampered with and changed today or yesterday and changes so that my links above don't go directly to the USL Pro Leagues anymore, but the USL Pro Leagues and the Brazil leagues, in which the subject is proven to have played, are still listed as fully professional.
   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Fully_professional_leagues#Defunct_Leagues

They are really playing dirty now by deleting and changing my links. Fussballspieler11 (talk) 18:10, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

They aren't necessarily playing dirty, though hopefully they've explained somewhere the reason for the changes. —C.Fred (talk) 18:34, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
You're correct, the leagues that my subject played in, ALL OF THEM -> Brazil A, Paulista A, USL Pro (1/2) are all still listed however, it just makes some of my links not go to the right place. It's at least a convenient coincidence for the detractors of my article and subject's notability and reputation. Thanks again for the guiding light.Fussballspieler11 (talk) 20:05, 10 July 2013 (UTC)'

Are news paper clippings from before the time of the Internet able to be used as references?

I have some newspaper clippings from the subject that I can upload under the terms of service that you suggested for his image. Are these clippings able to be used as evidence/references? They never appeared online because the newspapers weren't online at the time and don't provide online microfiche.

Are microfiche scans from the newspapers considered valid references? I might be able to get them. 'Fussballspieler11 (talk) 20:07, 10 July 2013 (UTC)'

(talk page stalker)Always remember: a reference need not be online to be a valid reference, as long as it's well enough sourced to be verifiable: publication, date, author, page, etc. Scans of newspaper clippings are generally copyright violations; ditto scans of microform reprints. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:31, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

GiantSnowman just delete my comments on my articles deletion page...

I just posted a very important comment and GiantSnowman deleted them. This is not ok with me and doesn't seem fair for him to decide on what I get to write.Fussballspieler11 (talk) 22:26, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

How do I get them back? My post was important to my defense and he went ahead and just deleted it.Fussballspieler11 (talk) 22:28, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Please participate in the current discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. GiantSnowman 22:51, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I mentioned you in a complaint about Giantsnowman

I've made a complaint already about GiantSnowman here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents

Thank you for your time C.Fred. I am only notifying you because I read that the rules require I notify you if you are mentioned. The complaint is not about you.Fussballspieler11 (talk) 22:53, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

just remember

Just remember how many people are heavily and emotionally involved in deleting my article. It's beyond reason for over 20 people to even care about a nothing "amateur" soccer player with a film festival.

I am an award winning author and an experienced forum administrator so I know how this kind of anonymous proxy based computer politics goes. After 2-3 days of this I and several others know what is obvious and I'm done being bullied and defrauded. Thanks for your common sense at leastFussballspieler11 (talk) 00:25, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

A beer for you!

Thanks for assisting with the removal of vandalism on the TBTA Police article. GySgtHartman (talk) 15:22, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

this all seems silly to me because even GiantSnowman has admited that Jordan Older meets WP:NFOOTBALL

This all seems silly to me because even GiantSnowman has admited that Jordan Older meets WP:NFOOTBALL

About the other stuff. I didn't start with that line of discussion. It was the deleters who went down the path of "other stuff" initially by saying that, others are deleted all the time so yours can be too. here's what I wrote on that big ol' afd discussion page. Pasting here so you won't miss it.

—————→ C.Fred actually the deleters and maybe even an admin first started to list "the other stuff" WP:OTHERSTUFF by saying that there are plenty of "others" deleted all the time. So why should a logical person not be able to say THE SAME reason in response; well in that case there are literally "thousands" of "other stuff" American soccer articles with less notability kept all the time, most 90% American players with Wikipedia articles can't compare to my subject's experience and news media coverage. Further, the WP:OTHERSTUFF says that, while they aren't enough on it's own, the other stuff comparison CAN BE USEFUL: (and it was started by the deleters so its only fair that both sides can use the same kind of comparison)

"The nature of Wikipedia means that you cannot make a convincing argument based solely on what other articles do or do not exist; because there is nothing stopping anyone from creating any article (except for a salting, which is only performed in dire cases). While these comparisons are not a conclusive test, they may form part of a cogent argument; an entire comment should not be dismissed because it includes a comparative statement like this."

WP:OTHERSTUFF

Also the deleters have already agreed that the subect meets notability by WP:NFOOTBALL the Admin: GiantSnowman has already gone on record agreeing to this. Some of the deleters have heavily criticized the validity of my editor reviewed references from 3rd party and well know newspapers but at the same time pulling up non-editor reviewed private/commercial web sites (that they may or may not own or run themselves) and telling everyone that we should trust these sources and if something "they want" isn't found in "their non-editor reviewed" blog that therefore they have found some smoking gun. So what you have here is a lot of circular logic and hypocrisy and simply admins deleting evidence when it doesn't suit their personal opinion. It doesn't sound terribly honest or fair. And to be the bigger man, and to avoid having to repeat the same obvious points day in and day out to people who say YOU can't do this, YOU can't use this kind of source, but I CAN, I've offered to delete my own article if the detractors will outline some specific reasons why WP:GNG is not satisfied (they already agreed that WP:NFOOTBALL is satisfied <--- I want to emphasize this). YOU can't talk about other stuff, but I CAN TALK ABOUT OTHER STUFF. Really bizarre thinking and seems dishonest to me. Again I just realized last night after logging off that their WP:RS is far less worthy and reliable and is not editor reviewed newspaper so it FAILS the WP:GNG rules clearly, but the deleters are using it as one of their main reasons for lack of football notability... are you following the problem here? It's circular logic combined with hypocrisy which means they are proving themsevles wrong by their own irrational reasoning. I'm going to paste this at the bottom so that it doesn't get lost up here in the mess of things and also to your talk page, just to be sure you get it C.Fred. Since you seem to be the only objective one here. Again I think its more than fair to take me up on my offer to have me delete my own page if the deleting side can list the specific things why my article's subject is not WP:GNG. Waiting on this.... Fussballspieler11 (talk) 19:35, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

More research finds...

Note: I just re-read WP:GNG it doesnt say that WP:NFOOTBALL is subservient to WP:GNG like GiantSnowman claimed. This is clearly his own opinion and not a fact.

  • WP:GNG clearly states and I quote:

"A topic is presumed to merit an article if it meets the general notability guideline below, and is not excluded under the What Wikipedia is not policy.

A topic is also presumed notable if it meets the criteria outlined in a subject-specific guideline listed in the box on the right. "

—————→ The "also presumed notable" means that someone can be notable by a different set of rules, it doesn't say you have to follow the WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL. It says someone can be notable just by the Notability Subject-specific guidelines which everyone agrees my subject passes by means of WP:NFOOTBALL.Fussballspieler11 (talk) 20:43, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

In either case, it's a presumption, not a guarantee, of notability. WP:Notability points out that editors ultimately decide the notability of each article taking into account GNG and subject-specific guidelines. So it's very possible that the subject meets the guidelines at WP:NFOOTBALL, but a consensus of editors, after reviewing the available reliable secondary sources, feel that the subject is not actually notable. —C.Fred (talk) 21:19, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

* True, it's much like a soccer game. The referee can red card (eject) anyone and referees often make huge mistakes. It clearly says that Wikipedia is up to the consensus of the editors and admins.
* But there is a catch here that you should be aware of:
  • 1) GiantSnowman allready admited that my subject →is worthy of NFOOTBALL notability← (so did many other editors)
  • 2) Now GiantSnowman, seemingly just to win the deletion of my article, is arguing that he can't understand the meaning of the world "OR" (see the Afd)
He actually pasted the rules to me, then he clearly made a huge error in interpretation. They say:

either WP:GNG "or" WP:NFOOTBALL qualify (or both) and now GiantSnowman has caught himself in a debate checkmate where he's trying to deny the meaning of the word or, or just simply lie about what the rules say. This is not ok and this guy is out of line and/or incompetent. The bad part is that he's misleading others and harming my subjects reputation because all his comments are public.Fussballspieler11 (talk) 21:42, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Now what?

Now that he's been caught he's being nasty and threatening to ban me on my talk page, just because I caught him in a lie.

I would like to file another complaint but he said if I talk about him he will ban me and "revert" and basically delete my article and make my Wikipedia life hell.

I caught him in a lie more than twice. He tried to lie about the GNG rules more than once. This undoubtdedly effected the opinion of other lesser experienced Wikipedia editors.

I'm just glad that I carefully read the GNG rules myself and was able to see that my subject is notable, even by the cold big guy's judgement.

So what should I do to file a complaint and not be banned? I didn't get to say my word in the last complaint before a friend of his closed it. That wasn't fair at all.

Any advice?

And since even my worst detractor (who is an admin who was caught red handed in a flat out lie) agreed that my subject meets NFOOTBALL and GNG says you can be either GNG or NFOOTBALL (or both) do you think we can close this matter? Fussballspieler11 (talk) 22:01, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Also there seems to be some kind of general misunderstanding as to what "presumed" means. I looked it up:

presumed past participle, past tense of pre·sume (Verb)
Verb
Suppose that something is the case on the basis of probability: "I presumed that the man had been escorted from the building".
Take for granted that something exists or is the case.

The user above said that NFOOTBALL notability was satisfied but it was only presumed. This means that it's taken for granted, not that its some kind of reason to doubt.
So the WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL clearly state that notability is presumed.... Meaning:
If the subject played in a full professional league he is presumed(taken for granted) that the subject is notable even in the absence of GNG. I expected more the admins and editors but you are being very kind and impartial unlike some that I can't mention under threat.Fussballspieler11 (talk) 22:28, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

The burden of proof is on the party creating the article to demonstrate through the article and the cited sources that the subject is notable. Who the author is is to a large part irrelevant.
That said, if you have a relationship with the subject, you do have to be extra cautious to cite independent sources and write with a neutral point of view, since you have a conflict of interest with the subject. —C.Fred (talk) 21:33, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

The Human displacement map of the world map is not original research

Some clarifications: The Map is not original research, it is from a cartographist and investigator called Jonathan Hagos, his works have have been featured in multiple international design journals, publications, seminars and exhibitions, see the Oxford Brookes University website [8]. The map was part of the status quo until a user called Wadaad removed it two days ago claiming that it was pseudo scientific [9] when it clearly is realiable, a discussion on the talk page is open, the map must be restored. No need for the 3R warning, I've only reverted one time this day, though if this continues i'd have to request page protection. Czixhc (talk) 02:07, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Centaurus Racing Team

Dear Mr. C.Fred,

I had uploaded an article about Centaurus Racing Team, that you deleted because it was not notable, almost three months ago. Centaurus Racing Team is a team of University of Thessaly, that takes place on the global competition FSAE. I believe that an article about this team may interest not only people relating to the competition but also people that are interested in motorsports because of the innovations team presents in this field. Besides that, there are articles about similar teams (E-Team Squadra Corse) without being deleted. So, what should I do so as to upload an article about Centaurus Racing Team without being deleted? I am looking forward for your reply.
Yours,
--George.anadiotis (talk) 12:46, 24 July 2013 (UTC)George Anadiotis

What you'll need to do is make sure they meet the notability guidelines for organizations. The article was probably deleted because such an assertion was not clearly made.
One thing that shows notability is to show that they've been written about by secondary sources. This is extensive coverage and not just passing mentions. —C.Fred (talk) 16:27, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Something else I should mention: the existence of articles on similar organizations is not an indicator that this organization is notable. Articles on other stuff exist; each article is evaluated on its own merits and not its relationship to other articles or notable groups. —C.Fred (talk) 16:30, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. I will come up with the correct type of article.

re: yr msg to Dennisallard re: Thomas Andrews Drake / whistleblower article

I noticed you left a message for Dennisallard who apparently wrote one of the articles on Drake. But beyond that, i can't figure out which way to go next.

At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_whistleblowers, i clicked on the link at Thomas Andrews Drake <http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Thomas_Andrews_Drake_(whistleblower)&action=edit&redlink=1>. It is red, and i did get the "stub" notice. But the article does exist at <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Andrews_Drake>. The problem is, i'm too new at this to find the erroneous link in the Edit Source page.

Thanks for informing me about this article which I created a week ago. I restored the article to its original content. Several people butchered the article. I am looking for more sources but have eight or ten now. This is a controversial WY politician, and I suspect her critics or her supporters or both are trying to kill or influence the article. Billy Hathorn (talk) 03:32, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing the article on Keith Kenny. The article is a work in progress but I have included sources that identify Keith as a notable figure in the Asbury Park Music scene. following the wiki musician criteria, note 7 states that the candidate "Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability" Keith has had multiple award nominations in Asbury Park and in 2008 he won an asbury music award which is cited in this article. Anti-Sikh Riots

Hi, I do not understand why you have reverted my edits in the Anti-Sikh Riots page. There are lots of people who refer to these incidents as genocide. I did not term it genocide exclusively, but noted it alongside, riots, massacre, and pogroms. Please help me understand why this is not in accordance with Wikipedia policy. these violent incidents are often referred to as riots, pogroms, massacres and genocide. So please allow the diversity of usage. Wikipedia is not for exclusion but inclusion of different perspectives as long as they are respectful and genuine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nirbhai1699 (talkcontribs) 06:45, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

@Nirbhai1699: This has been discussed repeatedly on the talk page, that genocide is a little POV-laden a term to use. It was contentious to get pogrom into the lede.
And with regard to perspectives being "respectful and genuine", one of the issues here is that another user was making the same edits and faced blocking over his actions, so the edits were reverted because of the appearance that you were that editor.
Bottom line, take your concerns to the talk page and work toward consensus. —C.Fred (talk) 14:32, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Re: Warning

Don't you think that was a little hasty? 3 reverts in 24 hours is normally the guidline. In addition to this I have a hard enough time trying to keep all the warring factions at bay without being warned in the process. See Operation Blue Star and you'll see what I mean. Thanks SH 14:24, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Three reverts in 24 hours is a bright-line definition. Three reverts in a row with no edit summary and no participation in the talk page sure makes it look like you're one of the warring factions. Just because it took longer than 24 hours doesn't mean it automatically isn't edit warring. That's also why I emphasized joining the talk page discussion, so we can reach a broader consensus on how to represent this in the article. It could be argued that the talk page right now represents a weak consensus to omit the ethnicity. Finally, in the event one of the other parties did get sent to WP:ANEW, it completely takes the "why wasn't he warned?" defence away from the other parties (not that it's a good defence anyway). —C.Fred (talk) 16:38, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't see the talk page I thought it was another case of Sikh Nationalists Vs Indian Nationalists as in Operation Blue Star. I guess I'm so used to people like this WP:Edit War I didn't think to stop that some of them may even be discussing the article. Point taken, but please just leave a message for me next time than warn, as I'm gettinga little old and senile nowadays. :) Thanks SH 12:41, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

I noticed you reverted my contribution. What do you mean by citation? Should it be a link or a journal paper that is footnoted? I'll repost it with citations in whatever format you desire after looking at other pages to see what source code others have used to do it. BTW, here in USA, the sentencing for crack cocaine versus sentencing for powder cocaine issue is a huge topic and pretty much any lawsuit which sentenced a black to a few years in prison is a valid example. It is not just this judge. It is just that this lawsuit names the defendant, the sentence and is in a mainstream newspaper. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.10.104.142 (talk) 17:56, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

@Ranking Update: No, they have several losses by a differential of 6. Since 6>5, all those six-goal margins stay as the biggest margin of defeat. —C.Fred (talk) 17:37, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
@C.Fred: Hm, yes, if we look back at the match with New Zealand, the goal difference would be "6". But the latest match with a biggest defeat is with Israel with a score "3–8", why we can't pick that? — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 17:51, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
@Ranking Update: Because it's the all-time largest defeat, not the most recent large defeat. Until they lose a match by seven goals or more, the largest defeat will be by six, with that large list of matches. —C.Fred (talk) 18:00, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Regarding: [Bulgarian Children's Chorus and School Gergana] Dear Mr. Fred, I have received an editor warring warning. Even though I do not wish do engage in edit warring, my edits are repeatedly deleted in their entirety. I have presented independent sources but the creator of the article do not let me to add the information because they simply do not like the facts. He/she is operating under three different identities in Wikipedia, you can see that every time I try to add information the same version of the article is reinstated. One of the sock puppets has been blocked for attempted outing of an editor and personal attack. Currently the information in the article does not correspond to the facts and serves only the creators of the article who, in my view, are exploiting Wikipedia for self promotion. I don't think that the people behind the article are going to cooperate to reach a consensus. The other editor is very aggressive in his attacks and language which also does not make a good ground for a discussion. What is the best approach in this situation? Thanks in advance. Best regards, Star Gazer 13 (talk) 21:39, 20 August 2013 (UTC) Star Gazer 13

Thanks a bunch, I tried the consensus path - you can see on the talk page. Nevertheless, I believe that behind all this is the leadership of the organization and people who directly benefit financially form it. That is why they are trying to simply delete the unpleasant facts from the past. I guess I'll have to ask for a third opinion. Thanks for the advice. In the meantime, what is the meaning of the warning, can I make edits at all? Star Gazer 13 (talk) 22:00, 20 August 2013 (UTC) Star Gazer 13

Again.—Kww(talk) 20:13, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
@Kww: I saw the edit and subsequent warning by another editor. I spelled out pretty clearly the problem with the edits and made clear that if it happens again, the account will be blocked. I was on the bubble about blocking tonight, but I wouldn't be if it were to happen again. —C.Fred (talk) 02:30, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Don't know why my previous completely unambiguous warning was insufficient, but I guess we can wait one more cycle.—Kww(talk) 02:32, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Because I'm either giving them one more chance or a little more rope. If they do it again, it's deliberate enough that I'd indefinitely block them for willful disruption. (Or, it pushes them to have to communicate to request the unblock.) —C.Fred (talk) 02:35, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Citing Sources

Thank you Fred for pointing that out. I am new to Wikipedia and was wondering how I can cite a county website that contains public arrest records. The only issue I see with this, is that the website requires the user to enter the first and last name of the person to display any results. In this case, I am trying to include the arrest information of Beto O'Rourke. Is this even possible? Or would I have to find another source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dandolesinfo (talkcontribs) 16:26, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

You would need to find another source. According to WP:BLPSOURCES, public records, like arrest records, should not be used as sources in articles. Sources that would be acceptable would be a newspaper report of the arrest or a mention of it in a biography written about him. —C.Fred (talk) 16:32, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

South Asia Changes- Afghanistan

Hello,

I'm not sure why you undid my changes to the South Asia page. As an Afghan I know that Afghanistan and Iran should be classified under the EXTENDED definition of South Asia. Afghanistan is not a part of "South Asia" as the term refers to the Desi diaspora; Afghanistan is not desi and shares no similar heritage or homeland with the rest of the main South Asian countries. I'm not sure why its in the main definition and in the box on the right. Afghanistan is not really a part of any large geographical region. It is not wholly Middle eastern, South Asian or Central Asian. Very rarely its referred to as "Central-South Asian." In the editing history of the South Asia page I noticed more people with the same concern as me but they're concern clearly wasn't addressed. Thanks for your time though! Please look into it and allow us to make the changes. It is not fair to us Afghans to be misrepresented. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AfghanWhiz (talkcontribs) 00:34, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, C.Fred, could please take a look at Bell's user page? The issue is whether the {{Banned user}} tag should be used. I came to this through Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/James dalton bell. Since the filing of the report, there have also been discussions on my talk page and User:Reaper Eternal's talk page. I didn't think the tag was justified. However, User:NeilN, who has a lot of history with this user (I have none), objected. Nothing Neil has said convinces me the tag is appropriate, but he believes that your edit to the user page indicates that you agreed with it. I understand his point, but I'm not sure he's right as you didn't add the tag, you corrected a non-admin's addition of the tag. These tags are controversial, and I'm generally against them unless the user has been officially banned (rather than "de facto" banned), but that's just my view.

If you have an opinion on the tag for this user, I'll defer to your wishes. If not, I'll leave the tag off and let Neil pursue it if he wants to.

Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:56, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

@Bbb23: Memory is fuzzy, since the tag was three years ago, but it was probably an issue with gaming the system with sockpuppets. By adding the tag, the message was "banned means banned," and any obvious-sock edits were reverted on sight accordingly. It was also, effectively, my endorsement of the user having been de facto banned.
Usage changes, so if the community no longer thinks that's the right tag, I'm not that concerned if it's removed. I'm also not hands-on with any of this user's edits where it's been a concern to me, like it was back when I tagged his user page. —C.Fred (talk) 15:14, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
I have no idea what the community thinks now. There was never an SPI report filed about Bell until the just-archived report about an IP. As far as I know, there's been no use of other named accounts, just IPs. If you look at Bell's block log, you'll see he wasn't even blocked for socking. He was blocked based on persistent disruption reported at ANI. Nonetheless, based on your comments and Neil's strong views on the issue, I'll restore the tag. From what I've seen of the history, the user, when he's not incarcerated, is a single-minded jerk. Even if I don't agree with the tag in the abstract, it's not worth having an endless discussion at a noticeboard to solicit community input. Thanks for your response.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:37, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
@Bbb23 I wouldn't particularly care but showing up after a long absence and resuming the same WP:NOTHERE behavior (minus the calls for blocking everyone in sight) indicates the user hasn't learned anything. If his only interest is puffing up his biography with scant regard to our policies then it's just easier to revert his wikilawyering and give a heads up to any proxy editors. --NeilN talk to me 16:52, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

@C.Fred: You deleted a page that I was adding content to, but I never added the page in the first place, I was only trying to add content and then you went and deleted a page that was already there for a while. The link to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darrell_Mockus was from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rensselaer_Society_of_Engineers but you now killed that page. @Theahamay: If you had only deleted the penalties, you could justify it as removing unsourced text. However, you added commentary to the article about NASCAR making up penalties as they see fit. At best, that's an unsourced allegation; at worst, it's a deliberate attempt to belittle NASCAR with the comment, which fits the definition of vandalism. —C.Fred (talk) 00:13, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

@Fuelies4life: There's two problems with that edit. First, fan sites should not be listed per the guidelines on external links to avoid. 19 Sep 2013 Knivd

Hello Fred, As you have noticed, there has been an edit war going between me and User:Nike about some content in the Decimal Time page. He removed the content initially posted by me stating the reason "not notable" while I do not agree with his credentials to determine the notability of it. My added text is enriching the subject, getting recognized in commercial products and genuinely informational in terms of content. I had stated data source initially, but that was removed later as "Original research". In my understanding every small step in the human development and science stems for an "original research" so my only aim was to enrich the page with more information on the topic. Talking to this particular user is practically pointless, a conclusion based on the attitude and responses other people have received from him to their attempts to talk. Regards, -Knivd — Preceding unsigned comment added by Knivd (talkcontribs) 02:05, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

@Knivd: If your added text had already gotten recognition, you would be able to cite secondary sources to back the changes up. Since there are no sources, that's what leads him, among others, to determine that C10 does not meet the Wikipedia definition of notability and should not be mentioned in the article. —C.Fred (talk) 02:29, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
@C.Fred:, There is a lot of material out there, unsupported by secondary sources. Even in the aforementioned topic. I just genuinely tried to give some extra information to the Wikipedia users. Since it is not accepted, let it be that way. Anyway, I will not participate in this pointless conflict anymore. But I will not support Wikipedia this year as well. Regards, User:Knivd —Preceding undated comment added 03:10, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Why

I have been asked by my school to edit, and put the information on my schools Wikipedia page. they gave me the info to put, and yet when i finish, you have completely taken it all off. I would extremely apreciate it if you would not d\o it again! I am not spamming the page. i spent 3 hours gathering and editing that page, and now it has all been a waste because you have deleted all of it. so again, please do not delete my editing. 9/18/13 Thanks, Greg HoldinessThefirstfhorn (talk) 03:27, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

See your talk page for information both on why lists of drum majors don't go in schools' articles and on how to edit when you have a conflict of interest. —C.Fred (talk) 03:47, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi C.Fred, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but I ran into some problems with the links. That being said, I fixed them and was wondering if you have any advice how to handle the other ones. I really tried to keep working at this but our stalker friend reverted and tried to get the link locked. Is this a legit move or should I take it to ANI? Cheers. 142.166.199.253 (talk) 20:50, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

You're going to need to be more specific. Since you're editing from a dynamic IP, and you have no other edits at this IP, I have no clue what you're referring to. I also don't see where I did anything on the talk page of NYC. —C.Fred (talk) 22:00, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi C.Fred! Please do not delete!

Hi Cfred, We are editors from IMDB. We have finally provide information to the real person of the article. This is a new article with completely different and cited content. Is there a way you could help us?!? It would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by IMDBeditors (talkcontribs) 02:41, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Rollback right

Would you please provide me with rollback right so that i can revert vandalism easily. I have applied for the right in Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback. But no one responding to my request. If i have rollback right i would fight vandalism from my cell phone more easily where undoing a large edit like this is not possible for me. - Rahat | Message 16:32, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Deletion Griffen881

C.Fred can I tell you that I didn't mean to have his name I was trying Griffen but when I learned that was taken Griffen881 was the second thing to mind so when I created the wiki I forgot all about the username rule and I wrote what I learned from him and his friend can't you understand that I'm just a new user and I'm just starting I realize that this happens often but how come I mean sometimes you feel you just need to right about something that you think people will love something you think may bring hope that one day when you write something that it won't be turned down and sometimes you can achieve in life and that you can continue one informing people about things life people that do something to brighten up your day and makes you smile, laugh, and enjoy coming home finishing your homework and watching.

Andrew Slattery

Hi C.Fred! I'm not sure of the best way of proceeding here - perhaps the best option would be to nominate the article to AFD as a BLP1E issue, and not worry about the identity of Andrew Slattery unless it survives? However, if you are interested, I did some digging when this came up, and found the Google Cache version of Andrew Slattery's LinkedIn page, where he described himself as a poet with a list of awards. That's been removed since, but the awards included ones the poet is known to have won, and now he is only depicted there as a screenwriter. Similarly, archive.org includes Andrew Slattery's poetry book Canyon from his site, [12], although that has also recently been removed from his web page. I don't really care about the issue that much, and would rather see the article deleted, but I think there's a bit of whitewashing and reputation management going on. - Bilby (talk) 15:45, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

@Bilby: The issue is that there are multiple Andrew Slatterys. Now, I'm not sure why the LinkedIn page had the overlap, but that's not important. What is worth noting is that the Volunteer Response Team investigated the issue through email correspondence, and they issued an OTRS ticket with their findings. That action trumps re-insertion of the same material.
You may be right that deleting the article is the route to go, especially if BLP1E applies. —C.Fred (talk) 17:05, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
What emerged to show that they weren't the same person? The linkedin page and website seemed pretty conclusive. The person currently claiming to be a screenwriter also claimed to have written and won awards for poetry, and to have published the book of poetry "Canyon". - Bilby (talk) 17:10, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
@Bilby: Something emerged in the course of the OTRS proceedings. My guess is that some documentation was revealed that isn't in the public eye, and that's why it went through OTRS instead of regular channels. I know that means the edit happens outside of normal scrutiny, but that's why OTRS exists, in large part: to handle sensitive matters that shouldn't be widely disclosed.
It's also not a common thing. I've got on the order of 15,000 pages on my watchlist, and I see OTRS tickets used to back up edits somewhere between once a month and once a quarter. —C.Fred (talk) 17:20, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Well, if you have time, the Google cache version of the LinkedIn page is at [13], and the current page is at [14]. At some point after August 30 this year, someone removed all mention of Andrew Slattery's poetry awards and poetry book from his LinkedIn page, and instead started describing him as "the screenwriter, not the poet". This is very peculiar. - Bilby (talk) 17:28, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Dear C.Fred:

You wield a sharp knife when you censor a page for alleged copyright violations, without receiving any allegation of copyright infringement from a copyright owner, or conducting any real investigation.

In particular, you deleted the Greg_Speirs page because it appears to include material from GregSpeirs.com. But, this material was AUTHORIZED by Greg Speirs, the copyright owner, and therefore does not, and cannot itself be, a copyright violation. See [2]. Or perhaps that page is also an infringement and needs to be stricken?

Please restore the deleted page. If in doubt, contact Greg Speirs, but please don't take it upon yourself to be a censor and troll, without good reason. 63.138.230.2 (talk) 21:13, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

I did do an investigation. I went to gregspeirs.com and noted that the text was substantially copied from the page. I also noticed that the page bears the notice "© 2012 Greg Speirs. All Rights Reserved."
Had the webpage contained a free license (Creative Commons, GFDL, or public domain), there would not have been a problem. Had their been evidence on the talk page that Speirs had contacted Wikipedia and donated the material so anybody and everybody could use it freely, there would not have been a problem. However, by all appearances, the material was not free and could not be used here. Wikipedia takes copyrights seriously and deletes infringing material proactively; we do not wait to be contacted by the rightsholder with a complaint.
I cannot restore the page—at least, not until Speirs re-licenses the text in question under a free license. He can either change the copyright notice on (one page of) his website, or he can email the Volunteer Response Team directly, but until he gives clear indication that the text is free for all to use, we can't use it here. —C.Fred (talk) 01:22, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

CINTAA, is website where cine field knows how important an organisation. It is the adjudicate authority for every contentious issue in the film/telly industry of mumbai. Alia Bhatt, profile her DOB is unkonwn, ----> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/6113

Katrina Kaif, profile her DOB is also unknown, ----> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/5106

Bipasha Basu, profile her DOB is also unknown, ----> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/1017

Is this what we called a legit website,

Shraddha Kapoor, age is a mystery/unknown, Times of India, indicate her as 24 year old (born 1989), Other sites, indicated her as (born 1992), she herself stated that she cast in her debut movie in 2010 when she was 18 years old make her 21 years old in 2013.

I had not add her DOB, as it sounds so dubious at all. Wait for is next year she will celebrate her DOB, in March 03, we might get a hint what her age is.... Till then, it is appropriate to leave her DOB section blank. I had an objection if Shraddha Kapoor source is reliable and accurate, so this apply also for Alia Bhatt, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif, remove her DOB, an put blank over there depending on CINTAA Profiles.

But, yet i was threaten, warned and reported, i was not acting as a Vandalism at all. Where is my fault. This is the so-called WIKIPEDIA FOUNADTION, SO FAKED, COMPLETELY FAKED FOR ME, IT WAS SO UNFAIR TOWARDS ME..... i guess... I do not know where i was wrong.

@Smauritius: This discussion belongs at Talk:Shraddha Kapoor, where the question of whether CINTAA is a reliable source or not is under debate. Also, the actions of one editor do not equate to that of the Wikimedia Foundation. —C.Fred (talk) 13:18, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
Welcome to my world C.Fred! To which end, discussion of the merits of sources for inclusion in Kapoor's article belongs at Talk:Shraddha Kapoor, so it's in one place and not scattered across multiple user talk pages and noticeboards as well as the article talk. —C.Fred (talk) 15:15, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

I beg the differ CINTAA is not an accurate and reliable source to prove Shraddha Kapoor, DOB.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, birth date is also unknown, -----> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/776

Kajol Devgan, DOB is unknown, -----> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/542

Esha Deol, DOB is unknown, ---> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/1263

Kangna Ranaut, DOB is 1986 in CINTAA Profile -----> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/3724, but in her official website and WIKI is 1987.

RoseKeel stated, Bollywood personalities went to the office of CINTAA, to register. They check their birth certificate to publish their age. So, why many celebrities age is not publish.

Everyone can own a sepecific account in CINTAA, Just to the link, http://www.cintaa.net/, in the right side, there is a member login box, just enter the email.address and password, you want 2 register, then it will provide that link ----> http://in.eregnow.com/membership/register/demoassociation, enter that choose your registration fee, re-type your mail address and password you want to register. You get the registration form, you fill the form, it will provide you, the biling form since since you do the payment, they will email your account.

Since, you had enter do the payment i don't think it your account cannot create. There is no need to go to the registration office, and all. I have done being a Mauritian citizen, so you guys can also do it.

It makes sense to leave Shraddha Kapoor DOB, section blank, rather than providing dubious account.

IF i am acting as a Vandalism, as i had been warned and report just block me then....

Archana Ramdonee 13:50, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

CINTAA, is not an accurate website providing illogical information about Bollywood personalities.

Aishwarya Rai, is cited as one of the most beautiful woman in the world, She got an blue-green eyes, everyone know about it. CINTAA, is the most accurate and reliable sources to prove Bollywood Personalities identifications. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, CINTAA, profile identified her physicality as black eyes. ----> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/776

Membership, is not the issue, who edits the profiles? Anybody, the performer, or an editorial board at CINTAA?? but whoever edits the profiles do you think it is dubious at all, to identified her eyes as black.

But, still it is the most creditable and accurate sources, to prove an individual personality and identity, taking the feedback of CINTAA Profile, let's change Aishwarya Rai Bachchan physicality? We all blindfold ourselves, despite she was born with green-blue eyes let's her black eyes as CINTAA, provide so??

Whether it seems so dubious but let's do it, even Rose$keel, provide Shraddha Kapoor CINTAA source on quoting it is a DOB confirmed from the CINTAA website as specified in the link. CINTAA is an association of Cine artists in Mumbai which has illustrious members like Aishwarya bachan, Anil Kapoor etc. No more changes or deletions in Birthdate are allowed view the history for that.

Priyanka Chopra, CINTAA profile is presented as Priyanka Chopraa ---> http://www.cintaa.net/membership/cintaa_profile/1201, despite the fact that she is Priyanka Chopra, let's change her name as Priyanka Chopra to Priyanka Chopraa as it is published in CINTAA Profile. Despite, illogical information about Bollywood Personalities but still CINTAA, IS THE MOST ACCURATE AND RELIABLE SOURCE TO PROVE A BOLLYWOOD PERSONALITY INFORMATION.

Please, kindly visit CINTAA WEBSITE, and view celebrities profiles, Archana Ramdonee 16:29, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

tbta wiki page

Hello cfred you made a change to my correction on tbta wkik page. Please look at the job posting for bridge and tunnel officer via (TBTA) www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/downloads/pdf/noes/bridgeandtunnelofficer.pdf, as you can see TBTAis not a police agency or department. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.210.204.218 (talk) 04:32, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

It may not be a police department per New York statute, but it is, in common usage of the word, a police department. —C.Fred (talk) 16:04, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Your statement is wrong and quite insulting. A Police dept have diffrent rules and standards than tbta officers. New york state has 2 set of law enforcement titles (police officer + peace officer) for a reason. Their is no evidence that tbta is a police dept ie, their website, agency patch or anything. I also noticed that you keep making correction on more than one law enforcement wiki page. The funny thing is that they are all wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.210.204.218 (talk) 02:13, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

There is no common use of the word police as you wrote. it is a crime in every state. So it is your understanding that anyone in new york state can use the title police officer or police dept. Here is a list of nys peace officers ( nyc fireman, ny district attorneys, nyc park ranger, nyc fire prevention officer) lets call all of them police officers and there agency police dept under your theory. I can tell you that your facts are wrong and that you should stop editing people correction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.210.204.218 (talk) 03:38, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

The Police article says otherwise. "Alternative names for police force include constabulary, gendarmerie, police department, police service, crime prevention, protective services, law enforcement agency, civil guard or civic guard. Members may be referred to as police officers, troopers, sheriffs, constables, rangers, peace officers or civic/civil guards."[emphasis added]C.Fred (talk) 03:51, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

SPI for Megscaves123?

Hi. Was an SPI ever opened for Megscaves123? Given that this user is presumed to be a sock of a very prolific sockmaster (Mangoeater1000), I think it would be a good idea to get some more solid documentation on record regarding this new sock. Thanks. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 06:52, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

@Richwales: No, it was not. I felt that the edits to the List of NYU Polytechnic Institute people were a clear continuation of the pattern of edits by Mangoeater1000. As a result, I don't think an investigation is necessary—and I'd expect any SPI opened now would be quickly closed due to the block. Do you feel there's not a sufficient connection, or are you just asking from the angle of gathering more evidence? —C.Fred (talk) 16:10, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

How do you add sources that will make the article valid. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mctherapper (talkcontribs) 22:24, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

@Mctherapper: The key is to show where independent reliable sources have written about the subject. That includes magazine and newspaper articles but does not include blogs, press releases, or the artist's own website. Ideally, you do footnotes throughout the article, so each point in the article can be tied back to the source that backs it up. —C.Fred (talk) 23:25, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Response to the Deletion of Bjconfer5039's page on Dr. Kevin B Sands.

Hi C.Fred! I am brand new to wikipedia, and I am looking forward to doing a lot of writing and reviewing. I was hired to create a factual page on Dr. Kevin Sands and his work in the cosmetic dentistry field of medicine. It is not something that i can complete with full references in one sitting. How do i avoid my work getting deleted as its in progress?? Are you supposed to code on a separate word tablet until everything is completed and then upload?

Also i am curious for your opinion on how i can avoid being deleted in the future. Here is the link to another popular dentist on wikipedia [[15]] I was trying to have Dr. Sands's page be a reflection of this. What is it Gerry Curatola is doing differently and how can i better my article.

I understand wikipedia tries to avoid self promotion/advertising but i thought my article included a large amount of factual text regarding cosmetic dentistry and the different procedures and tools needed.

Please advise. Thank you!! 00:45, 17 October 2013 (UTC)Bjconfer5039 wed. Oct. 16, 2013 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjconfer5039 (talkcontribs)

It's raised a considerable amount of money (~5 milion in funding), and is the main 311 system of big cities like Philadelphia, Tallahassee, Palo Alto, etc etc…

Hi, I came across a discussion of yours regarding sub categories and parent categories for Eco-terrorism and Sea Shepherd. It seems that some people have created Eco-terrorism sub categories and placed them under the category of SSCS with the purpose of trying to keep the words "Eco-terrorism" off of the SSCS mainpaige. I took the liberty of removing this nonsense and left notes on each talk page. Could you take a look at the categories on SSCS and weigh in on the discussion? Hi. You recently deleted my page on Vontus. Could you restore it, or at least explain why you deleted it? I feel as though 5 million YouTube hits makes them pretty significant. I'm new to Wikipedia and trying to figure out how not to make errors like this. Thanks. VinceIce2 (talk) 22:23, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

@VinceIce2: WP:NBAND has a list of criteria that make a band notable. The general requirement is that the band has gotten substantial coverage in independent reliable sources. Some other accomplishments by the band will also be indicative of notability, such as getting a song on a national chart (e.g., Billboard), having a song or album certified gold or platinum, or winning a major national award (e.g., Grammy or Juno). No such assertion was made about Vontus. YouTube hits are not an assertion of significance or importance.
I've restored the article back to your userspace so you can continue to work on it. It's at User:VinceIce2/Vontus. I strongly suggest that you do not attempt to move the article back to mainspace again; instead, if you think the article is ready, get input from some experienced editors on whether it is. —C.Fred (talk) 22:34, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello C.Fred! I noticed your recent message on my talk page about my edits to the page "Rusty Foster." My recent edits to the page on Rusty Foster were explained on the talk page. In short, the page is full of unsourced material of dubious notability (and of an arguably harassing nature). The subject of the page himself is of questionable notability and probably ought to be the subject of an AfD.

All well-sourced references relate to a prank in which someone convinced facebook the subject was dead. The articles are more about facebook than the subject. Now you claim I'm adding unsourced material? Are you a bot or something? Tripel sec (talk) 02:53, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
@Tripel sec: What else do you call this addition of a category—a category that isn't used anywhere else on Wikipedia, for that matter? —C.Fred (talk) 02:56, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
When I made the revert, it was my understanding that I was removing that category, not adding it. It did not occur to me that this other user had made three edits so quickly that readded then deleted the category I had originally removed. By the way, do you know who Rusty Foster is and do you have any reason to think any of the now unsourced material on his page is true and/or notable? Tripel sec (talk) 03:02, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
