Box office assessments column
[edit]The column in the filmography table titled "Box office verdict" is problematic for several reasons. First, its contents are entirely unsourced and keep changing, which only draws attention to the fact that some if not many of the "verdicts" are entirely made up. All information in Wikipedia must be verifiable, but how do you verify whether a certain film was a "super hit" or a "blockbuster" when not only is there no source cited, but the terminology is intentionally vague? What is the difference between a "mega hit" and a "super hit"? My point is that the jargon of "verdicts" consists of ill-defined, subjective buzzwords that have no place in an encyclopedia's filmography. What would be useful instead would be sourced numbers, box office gross figures, something quantifiable.
Because I am sick of watching the ceaseless edit wars going on in the "Box office verdict" column without any way to know if people are simply making things up, I have requested a source for the contents of the column. I will wait a few more days in hopes that someone will locate a reliable source or sources. If that doesn't happen, I am deleting that column. AtticusX (talk) 20:20, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Done. The column remained unsourced, and the so-called verdicts kept changing, so it has been removed. AtticusX (talk) 04:24, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
tables and trivia
[edit]Per the manual of style "Tables are a way of presenting links, data or information in rows and columns. They can be useful for a variety of content presentations on Wikipedia, though should be used only when appropriate; sometimes the information in a table may be better presented as prose paragraphs or as an embedded list" and "Often a list is best left as a list. Before you format a list in table form, consider whether the information will be more clearly conveyed by virtue of having rows and columns. If so, then a table is probably a good choice. If there is no obvious benefit to having rows and columns, then a table is probably not the best choice. " There is no obvious benefit to placing the filmography in a table, other than it will consume inordinate amounts of time and frustration dealing with the crappy table markup system used by Wikipedia. Oh wait, that is not a benefit. In additions, listing such trivial crap in the filmography as the co-stars is clearly out of scope for an encyclopedia article about Boban. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:02, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Filmography of the actor is messed up. Please fix it ASAP. JK (talk) 05:00, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- the table coding and trivia about costars has been removed so now it will be simple for anyone to make the appropriate corrections to the details. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 10:58, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- seeing no discussion citing any "obvious benefits" of having a table, I have again returned to the easily editable list format per the mos tables guidelines. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:57, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Article needs improvement
[edit]Some new accounts have added promotional and unencyclopedic content to the article in the last few days. The content is unsourced, unverifiable and seems to be lifted straight from some fanpage. JK (talk) 04:57, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for bringing this matter to the talk page. I hope the other editors, who are adding the content, will join in the discussion and explain why they think the material should be in the article (if they still want it there)—although at least one of them will have to wait until his/her block expires before participating in the discussion here. —C.Fred (talk) 13:46, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- Removed the fanpov and tone tags after removing the unsourced content per WP:BLP policy. JK (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:56, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

I would like to edit Kunchako Boban's date of birth as he is born in 1977, not 1976. 90.196.181.142 (talk) 18:34, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Sock puppets adding promotional content
[edit]This article has been frequented by the sockpuppets of a blocked user named User:Mealwaysrockz007 who has been adding promotional and cut-pasted contents from other websites. Every attempt to cleanup the article has been sabotaged by this person. Now the duck socks named Onam2013 and Indian film 100yrs of mkht are adding back the same promotional content which were deleted long back. A significant part of the article is cut-pasted from websites like this. I've added inline tags to some of the statements but actually the whole article needs to be saved and made encylopedic. JK (talk) 09:39, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
How can we even allow libelous statements like "Once he even admitted that he got letters written with blood during this period from his lady admirers."? JK (talk) 03:37, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
New starting point
[edit]As the new starting point, I have restored this version. If there is anyone who feels for some reason that this version with all of the flags and none of the issues addressed would be a better starting point, or if you have another version that would be better, please make your case here. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:14, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
unsourced trivia
[edit]I have restored the version without the unsourced trivia. since all of the films are in a single language, there is no need to list it for every one.
in addition, this article is about Kunchacko Boban. As is it is the producer, director and casting agent who select the co-stars, including them in this article is mere trivia, unless either that co star or Kunchacko Boban was heavily involved in making the co-star happen for a particular film, which would require a reliable source to verify and a textual context which is out of place for the filmography article and would be better included in the main article about the actor. Do not continue to edit war to restore the inappropriate unsourced content. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 22:39, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
- No need such type of poor reasons. Wiki tables should be always proper see WP:FILMOGRAPHYthis Clock 12:13 (talk) 02:35, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
- I am not sure what you are talking about tables for, but the link you provide says "you should make sure there is an obvious benefit to table format before creating a table for a filmography" , so no tables are NOT always proper
- and you have failed to address the actual cited concern about insertion of unsourced trivia, which IS specifically banned under WP:BURDEN. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:54, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
- This it not a question about table format or not, but what to put in the table. A column for Language it redundant as all films are in Malayalam. I do not see a reason for a Co-stars column here, and no reason have been put forth. Colums for Notes and Sources
wouldcould be appropriate. Suggestions and comments are welcome here on the talk page. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 18:00, 24 October 2013 (UTC)- while "sources" is certainly acceptable, a "Notes" section merely invites trivia and we do not need to do that. Especially now that the filmography has been merged into the main article, anything that would be noteworthy enough to include should be included in the actual body of the article. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:30, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

- Agree. But if anyone familiar with the ouvre of Boban would argue that say a pattern of collaboration with certain directors or other actors exists and merits an inclusion in the table, I would be very willing to listen. Especially if its not OR but a sourced observation. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 13:05, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
