Request on 15:24:46, 16 July 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Excellenc1

Please give a look at similar articles regarding elections in France:

I copied the same format as these articles. If you feel my draft doesn't have reliable citations, then what about these? Why are these articles approved (I know their submission is not done by you, I am just giving examples to be considered)?

Excellenc1📞 15:24, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Other stuff exists. I didn't review those articles, but I would have had the same complaints. All of the articles are notable, but you just need more sources. Find some local articles from Aquitaine about the election and some Wikipedia:Inline citations to information you reference. Then it should be good to accept. Bkissin (talk) 15:28, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

@Bkissin: I have added inline citations as per your suggestions above. Would you please take a look at the draft now? Excellenc1📞 16:20, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, the article is now approved, thanks for your suggestions. Excellenc1📞 16:22, 16 July 2021 (UTC) Excellenc1, are you translating articles from French to English? Thank you for helping out with that! I've done that a lot myself. Different language wikipedias have different guidelines on sourcing. I try to find French articles that have a lot of references, that way they'll pass in English Wikipedia. With your current drafts, I am happy to accept them, but could you try to find WP:THREE reliable sources? It's not a hard-and-fast rule, but it sweetens the case to accept. Bkissin (talk) 16:53, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

I had found WP:THREE for my article Thierry Lataste, as per a request by a user in the Teahouse. For other articles, I usually don't check if I have three best sources, but I assure that whatever I cite is appropriate. Excellenc1📞 17:03, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bkissin, thanks for approving my page on Diary of a Mad Old Man. Currently it doesn't link properly from the main Tanizaki article because the titles are slightly different - mine has the word '(novel)' in brackets, which is strictly speaking unnecessary. Do you have any idea how I can sort this out? Thanks.. GaryDex (talk) 16:30, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Linking to Diary of a Mad Old Man

Hi Bkissin, thanks for approving my page on Diary of a Mad Old Man. Currently it doesn't link properly from the main Tanizaki article because the titles are slightly different - mine has the word '(novel)' in brackets, which is strictly speaking unnecessary. Do you have any idea how I can sort this out? Thanks.. GaryDex (talk) 16:35, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi GaryDex! That's an easy fix. When you want to link to something but you don't want to use the title (or in this case, fix the link so it works) you just have to add a | symbol. So in the code, it would look like [[Diary of a Mad Old Man (novel)|Diary of a Mad Old Man]] and would show up on the page as Diary of a Mad Old Man. I fixed it on Tanizaki's page, and I hope that helps for the future! Bkissin (talk) 17:53, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks a lot!GaryDex (talk) 17:57, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Joel Ventresca

Greetings! Just wanted to touch base about my draft for Joel Ventresca. I understand that perennial candidates normally do not fit the notability requirements, but as someone with an interest in third-party politics, I believe anybody who gets 7 percent of the vote in a city of 800,000 people as a third party candidate is pretty notable. Now that Ventresca is running in the California recall, I think people should be able to figure out who he is straight from the recall's Wikipedia page. I also think there is a viable amount of sources with good information, and I will update the page with more information as time goes on if you would reconsider your decision. All The Best. Capisred (talk) 14:43, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

And they can learn who he is straight from the recall's Wikipedia page. If you want to add more detailed bios about each of the candidates there, you are more than welcome. Alternatively, you may want to consider Ballotpedia, which is not affiliated with Wikipedia, but may provide the venue for the type of candidate information you want. Bkissin (talk) 14:54, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

Again, thanks for your work over at AfC. Take a look at this draft, you approved it, then the article creator moved it back into mainspace (first time I've ever seen that happen!). And from their edit summary, this is clearly UPE. Thoughts?

I think we were concerned about POV/PAID issues all along in terms of the article prose. Oof, did you see the edit summary? "That's not how this works! That's not how any of this works!!" I'll put a UPE tag on the draft and we can figure out what to do from there. Bkissin (talk) 15:18, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
Bkissin, lol. It was the edit summary which gave me pause. Onel5969 TT me 15:38, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

SB 86 GNG

I wrote this article in part because of just how much controversy it had. I have seen pages for other failed bills that are notable. If you just Google SB 86, you can see a lot of news coverage, including by Fox News[1], TBT[2], and Politico[3]. Most coverage is by local news channels across Florida, but the number of signatures, I think, shows general notability. Several examples are cited here.[4] [5] [6] [7]

Thank you so much for acceptance of Lakshmi Ghar Aayi submission

Hi Bkissin. Thank you for reviewing, accepting and publishing my AfC on Lakshmi Ghar Aayi. I just came this morning to check the status of my drafts submitted for review and I was overjoyed to see it accepted. This one was very difficult to make because I really had no more references to add and thought I will add them when I get them later as I want to be a bit inactive due to busy school schedule. However I was so so overjoyed that this submission got accepted as this is my one of the favorite shows on TV. It was like dream come true moment for me. Thank you so much and wishing you a happy editing.--Creativitylove (talk) 05:56, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Hawaa Al Mansoori

Thanks for reviewing and your comments on Draft:Hawaa Al Mansoori

I have removed some wording that could be seen as promotional and content that was superflous. Would appreciate any further recommendations.

My understanding is that this should pass WP:POLITICIAN given that the Federal National Council (FNC) is a national legislative body of the UAE. To my knowledge, the government makes no distinction between members of the FNC based on the method of selection. But I'm not familiar with the grey area so I might be missing the context of this point. Article (69) of the UAE Constitution states: "An Emirate is free to determine the method of selection of its representatives".[1] Looking across both federal and regional governments in the UAE, with the exception of the FNC members that are currently elected (20 of the 40), all other senior government postions including cabinet ministers and judges are appointed.

Appreciate you taking the time. Best, --Curiouskaon (talk) 12:25, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Jack Thorne

Hello, Bkissin. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Jack Thorne".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 23:07, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

The title is a salted redirect, because an article was deleted, and the deletion was endorsed at Deletion Review. Because of that history, I have Rejected the draft. The author can request a review of the rejected draft at Deletion Review again.

Briggon Snow Draft

This actor is a lead in a slew of fiction podcasts and regarded as a big name in the space. All of the citations, of which they are extensive and from reputable publications and websites, and also including the actor's IMDb and website with audio clips from each role, should be enough to prove the actor's body of work. There are many citations and I'm not sure I understand your question/comment of how to prove the actor's work in podcasts when the proof of a substantial public career in the space has been provided throughout the draft of the article. Guster705 (talk) 17:14, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Hey! So, I worked with some wonderful helpers and they were able to guide me through dropping and adding citations. What was determined is that Briggon Snow should qualify for WP:NACTOR with these changes. He has had multiple regular roles on notable programs (noted and cited in the article - some of which include a major musical release in "In Strange Woods", and roles in an iHeart Media show and Netflix spin-off, not to mention his lead role in one of the biggest podcasts globally, The Bright Sessions), a recurring role on the Nickelodeon tv show Game Shakers, and has been reviewed and mentioned by Wil Williams which has been determined as a reliable source for the podcast industry from her bylines and interviews in Forbes etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Briggon_Snow Guster705 (talk) 15:41, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Gumbo'!

Hi, can you take another look at my draft, you rejected it based on notability issues yesterday. What notability guidelines does the article fail? Justiyaya 16:24, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bkissin, I declined this but it appears I was wrong to do so and looking at the editor's talk page maybe others have as well. Do you mind helping me understand the criteria for governmental agencies/bodies? Thanks! S0091 (talk) 21:04, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi S0091! It wasn't a question of wrong/right, I think it's just a difference of opinion. I think that the notability of a city/municipal council probably depends on the size of the city or municipality in question. Municipal Chamber of Belo Horizonte (which I accepted earlier) would be fine because Belo Horizonte is a large city and capital of the state in which it is located. Looking at the sizes of Araripina and Araquara respectively, it is a tough call. Arguably, there are US and European cities of similar sizes whose city councils have articles, but that's an WP:OSE copout. The English wiki articles for the cities are a little lacking, so someone could make the argument that the information in those articles could be merged into the articles about the cities.
TL;DR - There aren't any specific criteria for government bodies. What I would argue is that many legislative bodies would be notable, and government agencies would meet notability if there is enough reliably sourced coverage that is independent of the agency itself.
Hope that helps! Bkissin (talk) 21:25, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Bkissin! Your logic makes sense to me. I just feel bad for the editor as it seems like a ping pong ball on their talk page but they are a trooper. S0091 (talk) 21:52, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Draft: Eddy Burback

Hi, I think you reviewed my draft of a page for Eddy Burback. As you may be able to tell this is my first time editing on Wikipedia, so I would really appreciate it if you could help me with defining a reliable source. Were there any ones in particular that were considered unreliable, or is my standard of sources generally too low? If so, what sort of issues are there with my sources and what would be more reliable? Are there particular types of source that will never be acceptable? Thanks

Twdavies (talk) 23:18, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

Hey @Twdavies:, for a first timer, the article looks good formatting-wise at least! Because you reached out to me so nicely and with questions I can actually answer, let me explain some of what I mean.
  • Youtube/Reddit/Twitter/Twitch - Most social media stuff is going to be considered unreliable (even if it came directly from the person's mouth, unfortunately). With user-generated content, anyone can say they are a big deal or make outlandish claims and give no information to back it up. Additionally, sites like that are often filled with people who are self-promotional and using those promotional sources in an article to try and paint a good PR picture about themselves on Wikipedia.
  • Apple Podcasts/Spotify, etc. - These sources just show that the podcast exists. They don't really tell us anything about the subject. If they do, it is often written by the host themselves, and that brings us back to the user-generated content situation above.
At its core, Wikipedia is a bunch of nerds, and so the site still looks at sources like you would use for an essay in school (newspapers, TV, reputable websites, etc.) For example, let's look at Gus' Wikipedia article (Just because Gus has one and not Eddy does not automatically mean that Eddy should have one, BTW. See WP:OSE): there are definitely some similar issues with the sources there, but Gus also has coverage from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Burnett County Sentinel. (Note that Gus' article doesn't mention his recent controversies, which is talked about on the talk page for the article. Basically, they can't find a reliable source that gives a shit about Youtube Drama.
In closing, I want to thank you for wanting to put a good article together. Making articles for YouTubers is super difficult, because the guidelines of who is notable enough are not well understood. For more information on reliable sources, you can look at Wikipedia:Reliable sources or at one of my favorite lists on the site Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources, which looks at many well-known sources and whether or not Wikipedia would consider them reliable. Happy editing! Bkissin (talk) 18:04, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

Bkissin thanks a lot for your feedback, I am learning a lot. I do have a few more questions if you have the time to answer:

  • Regarding the social media sources, I expected them to be considered fairly unreliable. I noticed this previously on Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources: "Context matters tremendously when determining the reliability of sources, and their appropriate use on Wikipedia. Sources which are generally unreliable may still be useful in some situations. For example, even extremely low-quality sources, such as social media, may sometimes be used as self-published sources for routine information about the subjects themselves" so I tried to stick to social media only for this kind of information, although there are some that I can see are suitable. Does this sort of thing make social media sources generally acceptable for this type of information or is it not that widely applied?
  • Yes, I could tell the difference between sources on Eddy and Gus as soon as I began researching, the justification for his page is certainly a lot stronger given the articles about him. You mentioned that the apple podcasts/spotify sources etc. show that the podcast exists, but nothing about the subject, but I am wondering, am I not citing sources with the purpose of showing that the podcast exists? I am stating a fact, then providing evidence for that fact. Is it a case of too many primary sources/original research? I have, since the first draft, added more secondary sources, but I must admit it may not be enough. I am gathering that it is about balance, if there were more reliable sources for central aspects of an article, then using primary social media, podcast, or award show sources would be more acceptable (e.g. Gus' has a number of social media sources but also plenty of articles), is this correct?
  • Slightly unrelated, but you said that others can't find reliable sources about the Gus drama. Now, I'm not about to go trying to add it, but I noticed that the Gus drama has been covered in news articles (a little too much for youtube drama imo). For example, the sun is an established newspaper here in the UK. Would an article such as this be considered an adequate source for adding it? If not, why not, it would be interesting to know for future reference.

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me out with this. I saw you declined the submission.

Did you see these two sources? They meet the requirement of multiple significant coverage, secondary published sources, reliable, and independent of the subject.

Noland's Ferry draft

You suggested that the new information could be addded to the exisitng Nolands Ferry I Archeological Site page. OK, I've done that. Can the name Nolands Ferry I Archeological Site be changed to indicte that there is more than just the Site? Or, is there a way that a redirect page named Nolands Ferry can redirect to Nolands Ferry I Archeological Site? The intent is to not have the present name be too narrow.Tlc356 (talk) 12:27, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Good question @Tlc356:! I think I can put together a redirect of Noland's Ferry for you. Let me give it a shot. It should be ready in the next 10-15 minutes. Bkissin (talk) 14:55, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
OK @Tlc356:, it should work correctly now: Noland's Ferry should redirect to the article about the site. Bkissin (talk) 14:57, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
Super. That appears to be a solution. Thanks. Tlc356 (talk) 17:09, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi, could you check some of my drafts? It is about a museum in Guatemala and another one in Colombia. I also made a draft of a videogame, I took into account the notability rules for videogames and added references to newspapers about videogames in English and other languages such as German, Russian or Spanish.Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 00:29, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Human rights in Norway

Hi, could you please take a look at Editor456991 (talk · contribs)'s recent edits on the article Human rights in Norway, an AfC you reviewed and accepted in February 2020? - Thanks, 4ing (talk) 22:03, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi I am happy to answer any questions. See also my comments in talk section on the article in question. I must warn that there seems to be a concerted effort to supress information about current and historical human rights abuses in Norway.

- Editor456991 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor456991 (talkcontribs) 01:54, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

(by talk reader) @Editor456991: Do not warn our editors about your opinion. While you might be passionate about your issue, we do not cotton to threats, per WP:LEGAL. Chris Troutman (talk) 02:20, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
I think you misunderstand me or are intentionally putting words in my mouth, contextualising context which was never there, there has never been a "threat" or "cottoning" of one (whatever that means?). I apologize however if there for some odd reason is a communication and/or language problem here somehow I am failing to see? I simply stated that there are a lot of people in Norway that wish this information to not be publicly disclosed for private reasons and/or misguided national pride. I am not warning anybody, I am warning "that" there are such efforts to supress information. I think that's useful information for an admin if considering applications for removal of information and censorship on an article about especially human rights abuses in a country. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor456991 (talkcontribs) 21:35, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
@Editor456991: I apologize. I jumped the gun there. My mistake. Chris Troutman (talk) 02:38, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

Wow, you try to take a weekend away from Wikipedia and look what happens! Thank you Chris troutman for helping out in the meantime! Editor456991, can you show me diffs where someone has tried to suppress this information? I looked through the article history and I only see your most recent edits. An article/topic like this is bound to bring people with particular agendas or soapboxes that want to suppress or highlight particular abuses by a country. In some ways, that is not what Wikipedia is about. It is a collaborative project in which users work together to build good content. In terms of a content dispute, it seems like the edits are mostly positive (major emphasis on mostly), though heavy-handed. I think a larger question about the article (which all editors involved should discuss on talk page) is whether the focus should be on Norway's current protections for human rights, or its history. I'd caution against relying on one source, even if that source is a UN Human Rights review (reminder that many countries with terrible human rights records are on the UN Human Rights Council). 4ing, if issues persist, I would suggest reaching out to Robert McClenon. Robert is an admin here and is active in dispute resolution. Hopefully a mutually beneficial solution can be found. Bkissin (talk) 15:02, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

I know the EU has reports and criticism about many of these issues in Norway also, I will try to find a version to their reports to cite as that would be a good source of impartial information also. The government really doesn't write, discuss, comment or talk about these issues. The Norwegian press has done a good job however in writing articles so I have lots of links to Norwegian press articles and information from Norwegian civil society organisations (maybe some of those are in English also). Well there were issues with a Norwegian translation of this page almost immediately with someone trying to delete a lot of information, however now still waiting for the Norwegian translation of the article to be accepted over some simple link issues and translations errors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor456991 (talkcontribs) 16:29, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Draft Louis Riel (historiography) article

Draft Louis Riel (historiagraphy) article is intended as child article to Louiss Riel per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Louis_Riel#Stanley's_4_critical_perspectives_of_Riel_as_cited_in_Betts

The "or not" does not support ballooning the section in this article; as I indicated above, it would support creation of a more detailed child article. Cblambert (talk) 23:58, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for asking me to look. I found very high citation figures, and accepted; I personally think the function in his name would be enough. (it was a little tricky, because most of his publications are in obscure Russian journals under his full name, and almost uncited in GScholar.; the English ones were listed under EA Nadaraya ) DGG ( talk ) 20:37, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Hubert Douglas Delany page

Hello and thank you for helping with this page. I understand the edits made by you and others yet didnt realize my wording was so "personalized" or "promotional" to be cut so much. But I am learning and understand. I do have a question about the title listing, not sure if it was my mistake or an edit by an editor, but how can I make sure the page is seachable and states Mr Delanys middle name.. ie: "HUBERT DOUGLAS DELANY"? Right now it comes up as just "HUBERT DELANY" and I do not want him being confused with his namesake HUBERT THOMAS DELANY, a page already on wiki. Is this something I can fix? Thank you again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamevantheodore (talkcontribs) 19:00, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Iamevantheodore:! No worries about the tone. A lot of people try to get paid using Wikipedia to promote people or products and they shouldn't, that's why we are very on guard about writing that sounds that way. You did nothing wrong, understanding neutral point of view takes time and practice.
I was thinking about the title as I was accepting it. Wikipedia is not responsible for SEO, nor do we really care. I do understand the concern that he'll be confused with his great-grandfather, but I think there is enough difference that the two will not be mistaken. You could WP:MOVE the page to a different name, but it can't be just Hubert Douglas Delany, because that article already exists (as his great-grandfather). Perhaps going with his full name Hubert Douglas Delany III or using a disambiguated title like Hubert Douglas Delany (Connecticut politician)
I hope this helps. Bkissin (talk) 19:16, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Hey Bkissin Thank you again. Think it can be changed and not confuse or cause issue as his g-grandfathers page is Hubert THOMAS Delany. Or am I mis-understanding? I'm reading through the WP:MOVE you suggested yet I'm thoroughly confused. Also, am I understanding that the page will still take time to be live/searchable? or do I have to still do something to get this complete. Again, sorry for all the question. I've only worked on 2 previous pages many years ago and very lost. Thank you again for the assistance. Iamevantheodore (talk) 19:31, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Whoops, I guess I got confused and thought they were both named Hubert Douglas Delany. Yes, renaming the new article to Hubert Douglas Delany is also an option, though if Delany doesn't use his middle name in any articles or anything, then it doesn't make sense to add the extra detail. As for live/searchable stuff, that's a Google thing, not a wikipedia thing. There's nothing we can do about that. Bkissin (talk) 20:21, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

I thought I provided enough public record and information from secondary reliable resources as there are over 20 references, and proof that the subject of the article is a recognized holder of public office/established entertainer. I do realize the conflict I have with the article, which is why I declared the conflict, but can you explain what criteria you denied on as I have seen many pages with much fewer references that are approved. Thank you in advance for your help in understanding, I appreciate it.
