miHoYo joined the communist party on the 24th September, 2021. [11] this line is invalid, if you read the source, it only says that the CCP division on mihoyo is upgraded from party branch to party committee. Not joined the communist party, since all corporation in China need to have CCP branch on them. Please re-verify to someone that are natives china. So I'm sorry if I am bothering you all but I would like you to make Genshin impact available for Moto e7i because I used to have it on my old phone and I loved it and now I got my new phone and I can't get it on the play store so if you are all able to get it on that would be amazing great game👍 2A02:C7E:3244:2D00:54AD:B0FA:243C:31BE (talk) 21:24, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is a year late, but you cannot use the wikipedia talk page as a way to discuss the topics (ie. the game and it's issues). This is a place for discussions about the article itself, and it's issues (ie. information mistakes and updates to it's information.) Imoutofchoices (talk) 23:01, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

N0va Desktop

[edit]

Shouldn't N0va Desktop also be part of their products? Albiet it's not a game and just an application, they still made it. 2001:4450:8371:CA00:9DF2:41EC:EBD1:79DC (talk) 14:47, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

who is CEO?

[edit]

shouldn't Liu Wei be CEO of Mihoyo? as Cai Haoyu move to Hoyoverse CEO. is this data up-to-date? is party secretary a company appointment or a union one? it was never mention again in the article and just seem to be inserted without context, so is it party secretary or committee secretary? also that link 81 is dead so i can't tell which term is correct. need a new source to verify the translation. 101.127.8.197 (talk) 15:43, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cai Haoyu is the CEO of both Shanghai miHoYo Network Technology Co., Ltd. ("miHoYo") and its subsidiary company Cognosphere Pte., Ltd. ("HoYoverse"). According to the original news article by miHoYo, Liu Wei was elected as Party committee secretary through democratic elections.

Big chinese companies are all owned eventually by "People's Liberation Army" (military wing of the chinese communist party). They use several layers of facade companies and strawmen to mask who's in final control, else USA and Japan would immediately sanction them. Thus CEO being X.Y. and vice president being P.Q. has no significance whatsoever. 188.143.6.179 (talk) 14:38, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of HoYoverse into MiHoYo

[edit]
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The consensus is merge. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 06:42, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

All the coverage for HoYoverse is really discussing miHoYo. I think the coverage of this brand should be discussed under miHoYo rather than spun off like this. Also seeing a lot of WP:SYNTH, unreliable sources, and trivial mentions. Awesome Aasim 01:46, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose per Special:Diff/1232153914, where an editor (User:Qiii777) actually tried to remove info about HoYoverse from the article, as although the company name is similar, it's actually a different, separate company from miHoYo, they are just collaborating with each other on some projects. That particular edit I'm talking about got reverted by another editor who suggested in the edit summary to create an article at HoYoverse (which used to be a redirect).
Let's take for example the game Zenless Zone Zero: it is made, and published, by HoYoverse.[1][2] The Kotaku source (2nd link) doesn't even mention miHoYo anywhere in the article. — AP 499D25 (talk) 03:04, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Already stated below but e.g. see South China Morning Post IgelRM (talk) 02:49, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: In agreement with the previous reply. This HoYoverse article is solely discussing the brand, and its history, without bringing in irrelevant information. Merging the miHoYo and HoYoverse pages into a single article is unnecessarily confusing for people since the two brands are separate and are operated by different companies.
I encourage (User:Qiii777) to edit the miHoYo page instead as done before.
One comment on the previous reply. Regarding Zenless Zone Zero, this game is actually developed by miHoYo, HoYoverse does the global publishing. Paimon123 (talk) 06:18, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They are all under the control of miHoYo. The subsidiary which just publishes has questionable notability, as does this brand. Awesome Aasim 18:26, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you base that conclusion on? I have not seen anything that proves that miHoYo owns HoYoverse. Considering this, instead of making assumptions about their relationship, I think we should objectively describe both separately. This ensures that Wikipedia does not make assumptions that we cannot check. Based on HoYoverse's and miHoYo's website, LinkedIn, etc., they seem to be operating separately, while partnering on some of their games. For example, if we look at HoYoLAB, miHoYo does not mention this product, only HoYoverse does. Houkai Gakuen 2 and Honkai Impact 3rd is only mentioned by miHoYo. Paimon123 (talk) 06:32, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! I had come across this ongoing discussion just today. I could contribute some information.
An article published by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, a legitimate government source, does confirm that the Hoyoverse brand was launched by miHoYo itself:

今年2月,米哈游推出新品牌HoYoverse,意在“打造一个由内容驱动的宏大虚拟世界,融合游戏、动画和其他多种娱乐类型”,布局沉浸式虚拟领域。In February of this year, miHoYo launched a new brand called HoYoverse, aiming to "create a vast and content-driven virtual world that integrates games, anime, and other diverse types of entertainmen," laying out plans for the immersive virtual field.

An ACRA business profile also reveals that Luo Yuhao, one of the co-founders of miHoYo and a director on the board of directors, as part of Cognosphere Pte. Ltd. Jiang Dawei, a producer of miHoYo's Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail, is also on miHoYo's board of directors as a director. Both Luo and Jiang are confirmed as directors of Cognosphere by this document. The CEO of miHoYo and Cognosphere, Cai Haoyu, seems to be represented by the shareholder platform listed at the end of the document. (I give credit to a collaborator of mine for sharing this document with me.)
Lagingnawawala (talk) 19:02, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sharing this information. The business profile suggests that some individuals involved with miHoYo have connections to HoYoverse, though it is possible that acquainted individuals collaborate further for other new projects. Furthermore, I still wonder if subsidiary is the right conclusion here. Shouldn’t a parent company own the shares of the subsidiary?
On top of that, even if there is concrete proof to show that HoYoverse is a subsidiary of miHoYo, I believe there are a large number of situations on Wikipedia in which there are separate articles for parent companies and subsidiaries in the gaming industry. i.e. Sony and Naughty Dog, Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Media, Rockstar/Zynga/2K and Take Two, EA Sports and Electronic Arts. This allows the public to readily access targeted and relevant information instead of digging through a long article for only a portion of relevant information. Paimon123 (talk) 05:54, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: How a merge is possible is debatable. But I don't think Hoyoverse passes notability and would recommend to nominate for WP:AFD. IgelRM (talk) 17:51, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is always quick and dirty merge where no information is actually moved between articles. Awesome Aasim 22:32, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also skeptical about the notability, though now I'm wondering if Cognosphere is truly a "subsidiary of miHoYo" per this page's claim. Is there a reliable source that can prove their connections other than Cognosphere publishing miHoYo's games? SuperGrey (talk) 10:11, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How is a publisher of award-winning games, a company that has booths at major game events like gamescom, a company with 5 offices globally, a company that causes social impact through sponsoring of music and nature-preservation (see their LinkedIn [https://www.linkedin.com/company/hoyoverse]), not be notable? For all these things, I did not see the name of miHoYo. Think about it from a player's point of view. They play a game and see HoYoverse. They want to know what HoYoverse is, and search on Wikipedia. They can only find miHoYo. I find this unnecessarily confusing.
As mentioned above, I have not seen anything that proves that miHoYo owns HoYoverse. Considering this, instead of making assumptions about their relationship, I think we should objectively describe both separately. This ensures that Wikipedia does not make assumptions that we cannot check. Paimon123 (talk) 06:36, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Paimon123 Notability means that it meets very specific criteria in terms of coverage so that no original research is required to assume information, and if the latter is required the subject is not notable. We can't synthesize primary sources, only state what reliable sources have said about primary sources or the like. HoYoverse has very little coverage, but miHoYo has a lot. Awesome Aasim 17:21, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support as HoYoverse/COGNOSPHERE is just the international branch of miHoYo. Cai Haoyu is presented as the "co-founder and CEO" of HoYoverse in its introductory post[1] and per his Wikipedia article, he's also the "co-founder and CEO" of miHoYo. It is not uncommon for Chinese companies to establish international branches to make publishing their games outside China easier. This is also backed up by a Kotaku article.[2] I therefore see no need to split miHoYo and HoYoverse into separate articles. --KingErikII (Talk page) 11:20, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support: HoYoverse is the international branch of MiHoYo, even the CEO of HoYoverse and MiHoYo are the same CEO which is Cai Haoyu. Guyrichtheman (talk) 02:50, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure that Cai Haoyu is the CEO of miHoYo? Based on these sources: 上海米哈游网络科技股份有限公司-米哈游 - 天眼查 (tianyancha.com) 米哈游接连发生重要人事变动,创始人蔡浩宇进一步退居幕后 (baidu.com) English source: Chinese video gaming powerhouse miHoYo, creator of Genshin Impact, shuffles chairman role and reduces registered capital (yahoo.com), it seems that he is not the CEO. Also, are you sure he is the CEO of HoYoverse, as there are other sources that mention HoYoverse having a new president: see his own Twitter announcement: X 上的 Jim Yang:“Very overdue update but I'm excited to finally be able to share that I've joined HoYoverse as President. HoYoverse has been at the forefront of providing players around the world with forward-thinking immersive interactive entertainment.” / X Paimon123 (talk) 12:12, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you think Cai Haoyu is not the CEO right now, why can't you change it? Guyrichtheman (talk) 12:16, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Chairman of the board and CEO are different roles. On September 15, 2023, Liu Wei took over Cai Haoyu's position as chairman of the board, thus becoming the new legal representative of the company. Now, Liu Wei is both the chairman of the board and the president of Shanghai miHoYo Network Technology Co., Ltd. He is not the president of Cognosphere Pte. Ltd. (HoYoverse), as that is Jim Yang's position. I saw this recorded on Qixinbao, a database publicizing info on businesses in China. In short, only Cai Haoyu's role as chairman of the board was affected, not the role as CEO, according to the public info we have now.
Lagingnawawala (talk) Lagingnawawala (talk) 15:07, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
even the CEO of HoYoverse and MiHoYo are the same CEO which is Cai Haoyu → Be careful here, Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX are both run by Elon Musk as CEO, yet we regard them as separate companies on Wikipedia and not one being part of another... — AP 499D25 (talk) 01:17, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support - I suggest a merge similar to Talk:Atlus#Proposed_merge_of_Atlus_USA_into_Atlus. The former can be redirected to a section in the latter. SuperGrey (talk) 04:43, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
From what we have seen so far, I still do not agree that HoYoverse should be merged into miHoYo, for a few reasons. 1. The definition of a subsidiary is that more than 50% of shares should be owned by the parent company. In this case, we have seen an ACRA profile that does not show this. I can't see any proof that miHoYo is the parent company. 2. From the ACRA profile, we see another entity that owns all shares. 3. While some individuals who are involved with miHoYo, are also involved with HoYoverse, this has little to do with being a subsidiary. There are so many cases in which people are involved in multiple companies. Paimon123 (talk) 04:09, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HoYoverse not being an apparent subsidiary of miHoYo doesn't change the fact that most sources only refer to HoYoverse as the one "which manages all of miHoYo's global operations outside of China". Maybe when the rumored new flagship shooter game Mr. Cai has been leading in HoYoverse Singapore & Montreal comes out, HoYoverse would be more widely known as its own, instead of only being a company related to miHoYo. SuperGrey (talk) 12:51, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Should what next time increasing a possible that page article be merge of HoYoverse into miHoYo will became soon. Andre Farfan (talk) 10:56, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Abstain - Can't decide whether to merge or keep separate. Hansen Sebastian (Talk) Hansen Sebastian (Talk) 03:40, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hansen Sebastian This isn't a vote. This is a discussion. I suggest you provide a comment about your thinking if you are unable to decide. Awesome Aasim 19:17, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you even bother joining this discussion if you can't pick whether to support, oppose, comment, or wait? RPC7778 (talk) 03:37, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support : As per the discussion triggered by IgelRM earlier, HoYoverse likely fails WP:GNG and imo also likely to fail an AFD. A merge into miHoYo will serve to preserve information for miHoYo and when there are more secondary sources talking about HoYoverse, we can restore the article and update accordingly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justanothersgwikieditor (talkcontribs) 02:47, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support because this article is completely in the dumps right now. It doesn't give any information or accurate information. It's very clearly a subsidiary of miHoYo and this article doesn't say it. Alexysun (talk) 23:25, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Developer/publisher in lead

[edit]

@Kingerikthesecond: I suppose the lead needs a proper discussion, regarding revert that "HoYoverse is more common in English-language sources than miHoYo". My concern remains that separate developer and publisher names should only be be mentioned if they are independently relevant. Here this is appears to be one organization and which article is named MiHoYo. I could see a note that MiHoYo is also known as HoYoverse, but without distinguishing between developer/publisher. Regards IgelRM (talk) 19:08, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well it appears I misunderstood, sorry about that. Looking at the article for Zenless Zone Zero, the lede states that the game is "developed and published by miHoYo (with publishing outside mainland China under Cognosphere, d/b/a HoYoverse)". I do agree that there is no real need to separate miHoYo and HoYoverse since they're the same company. Thus it's probably appropriate to add the same description to the lede of the Genshin Impact article. Thanks for clarifying! --KingErikII (Talk page) 20:03, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I note your revert was justified as it wasn't great editing. For some reason the Genshin Impact article had a different lead sentence dev/pub sentence than the MiHoYo's other games, but I think you are correct that it is the same. IgelRM (talk) 02:40, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
