Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Input on merge discussion
I’m requesting input and expertise from uninvolved editors on a merge discussion between distressed securities fund and distressed securities. The discussion has been active since September 12, 2014 with no consensus met yet. Users are in gridlock and discussion has came to a halt. Input on the discussion and eventually closure will be much appreciated. Thank you! Comatmebro ~Come at me~ 17:15, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
European Central Bank's GAR
European Central Bank, an article that you or your project may be interested in, has been nominated for an individual good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. GamerPro64 03:05, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Compiling a worldwide list of D-SIBs
Recently I have contributed a lot to expand the List of systemically important banks. It now evolved into being more of an article, featuring both a G-SIB list and a chapter with D-SIB lists. To say it short, the structure is in place, but it takes a lot of time to find and report the D-SIB lists for each nation in the world (as no single published source exist with overall info for all states). So I need as much of your help as possible - to succeed doing this for each nation. From a starting point, the priority is to compile complete info for USA, 31 EEA states, Switzerland, Japan and China. My ambition is, that this work shall be completed during the next year. So far I have updated the table with complete current info for Denmark + Sweden + Norway + Switzerland, but have not got any time left to continue the work during the next 3 months. So you are more than welcome to help me fill in the remaining empty spots.
You can find the missing D-SIB info for each nation, by visiting the official website of its Financial Supervisory Authority. The new European D-SIB regulation, demand that each EEA-member state shall have identified their D-SIB list and associated info about new total capital ratio requirements - at the latest on 31 December 2015. So this mean, that some EEA member states (like UK), haven't yet completed their identification of D-SIBs. However, approximately 50% of the EEA-member states have already identified their D-SIBs, and hence it make sense to start compiling the lists already now. In regards of the already featured D-SIB list for USA, it shall be noted the data is outdated (based on financial data from 2011), so here we need someone to update it - and also note how big the capital requirements are. If you have time and interest for this subject, please help me with the work. :-) Best regards, Danish Expert (talk) 11:42, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
- Managed this weekend to find some time to expand the list with info for Canada + Australia + USA. Still need your help, though, with all the remaining states, and also need a person to look into the capital requirements applying in USA towards their identified SIBs. Hope someone have time to help me, as I do not have anymore time to expand the list with info for the remaining states. Best regards, Danish Expert (talk) 14:01, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Student develops bank article - please say hello
Hello. A student named 1992MC has developed the Bank of Albania article as part of a class project. I think the article looks good, but more comments would be welcome. Could anyone here say hello to this new Wikipedian and give any comment on this article? Thanks for any attention that you can give. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:42, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Update to Softcard page
Hi, Tracey2626 from Softcard, a mobile payments company. While the Softcard entry isn’t currently a part of this WikiProject, I was hoping to start a dialogue with the volunteers here about considering updates to our page. You’ll see some of my comments on the Talk page there. Can anyone assist? Thank you. Tracey2626 (talk) 17:32, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
List of circulating currencies
The list of circulating currencies now sorts properly when sorted by name of currency. Previously, e.g., "Thai baht" sorted under T; now it sorts under B. See the Talk page there under Sorting the table by "Currency".

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Help with AIFMD?
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help improving the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive article and hoping that someone at WikiProject Finance might be interested. The current article is missing details, there is some confusing wording and generally there's a lack of sources, so I'm making some suggestions to fix these issues.
As I am working on behalf of the Managed Funds Association and have a financial conflict of interest, I won't make any direct edits. Instead, I've proposed the corrections and updates on the Talk page here. If an editor who's active here and interested in international finance is able to review and make the changes as they feel are appropriate, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 11:58, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
The "usury" article needs help putting links to other articles
I was surprised there is not more interlinking with other articles on the topic of the 2008 financial crisis, how money is created, quantitive easing, buffers that banks need to have in relation to the loans they can write out, how consumers and society is protected from irresponsible behaviour from bankers.
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usury#Usury_law Only the measures in the USA, Canada Japan are mentioned. Nothing about the EU or any of the other big economies. Can anybody help?

Scoreboard article for the 2008 financial crisis bailout?
Is there something like this on the wikipedia? :
"The Bailout Scorecard
Last update: Apr. 20, 2015
Altogether, accounting for both the TARP and the Fannie and Freddie bailout, $615B has gone out the door—invested, loaned, or paid out—while $390B has been returned.
The Treasury has been earning a return on most of the money invested or loaned. So far, it has earned $280B. When those revenues are taken into account, the government has realized a $55.1B profit as of Apr. 20, 2015." https://projects.propublica.org/bailout/ - It shows what bank or organisation received how much it received, in what form etc, how much it has paid back in interest to the state, how much in dividents if the state became a share-holder, etc. ProPublica was a recipient of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in National Reporting and a 2010 Pulitzer Prize in Investigative Reporting. Thank you --SvenAERTS (talk) 14:45, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
- @SvenAERTS: Very interesting question: I wasn't aware of that research. Do you propose to create an article about ProPublica's scorecard, or do you want Wikipedia to make its own scorecard?
- The long table in the Participants section of the Troubled Asset Relief Program article looks like a kind of scorecard. (I noticed that 2009 ProPublica research is used as a source for the long table. Does that need updating?)
- Here are two other relevant articles:
- Federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (The section on Ongoing status of Fannie and Freddie conservatorship doesn't seem to have been updated since 2012.
- ProPublica (doesn't mention the bailout)

Help with MetLife article
Hello everyone, I'm working on behalf of MetLife to suggest improvements to their article. A few weeks ago, I proposed some changes to the article's History section here, but thus far I haven't had any feedback. Since the article is of interest to this WikiProject, I'm hoping someone here might be curious enough to help. Because of my COI, I will not be making any edits myself and am looking for editors to review my suggestions. If you're able to take a look, I'd appreciate any feedback. Actual symbols for Kyrgyz and Kazakh currency?
In List of circulating currencies, the symbol for both the Kyrgyzstan som (Cyrillic: сом) and the Kazakhstan tenge (теңге) is given as лв, the same as the symbol for the Bulgarian lev. These seem highly unlikely, as neither л nor в appears in either of the K*stan currencies' names.
I have written this up on Talk:List of circulating currencies, and asked for comments there on the Wikiproject talk pages for Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Central Asia, but all three of those projects are dormant. Can anyone reading this advise? Please {{Ping}} me to discuss. --Thnidu (talk) 04:22, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

New book on finance in the U.S.
This book looks relevant to alternative financial services, poverty industry, payday loan etc: How the Other Half Banks: Exclusion, Exploitation, and the Threat to Democracy by Mehrsa Baradaran, 2015, Harvard University Press. Per the Chronicle weekly booklist it "Traces the emergence of a two-tier system of banking in the United States in which a large portion of the population is forced to rely on pay-day lenders and check-cashing services." Maybe interesting if anybody wants to expand on/discuss cultural impact in the U.S. in those articles or related ones. Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 00:28, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Correct name of a job
Could anyone help me with correct naming of a bank job? I have to translate it from Russian (my native language), but dictionaries are totally messy about it. It is a lady, who is just one step above a teller and perform following things:
- issuing money orders;
- registering money orders in the cash journal;
- signing entries in the cash book;
- checking documents she recieves from a teller;
- cross-cheking of the cash book and cashier's paper's.
She's required to be qualified as a bookkeeper. In some russian organizations she directly deals with corporate clients recieving cash from them and cheking and signing relevant documents. Literal translation from Russian is: "bookkeeper-controller" (although she is, apparently, well below a controller in western organizations) or "bookkeeper-checker (cheking-bookkeeper)". I understand allmost nothing in banking, finance and bookkeeping, but I tried to describe the subjet as close to the sources, as I can. Эйхер (talk) 14:51, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Note: she's harly a head teller because she might or might not have subordinate tellers. She simply is more educated have more permissions than a teller. Эйхер (talk) 15:01, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
- Эйхер, in the United States people who do this are known collectively as platform personnel. An individual may be referred to as a platform associate or platform representative, as well as other bank-specific titles. John M Baker (talk) 20:04, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- Perhaps You are right, Mr Baker. On the other hand, what I have googled, suggests quite a broad range of jobs for the term "platform associate/representative", not necesserally associated with accounting/bookkeeping. Wouldn't an accounting associate fit better? Here I must note, that I've probably got it wrong that the lady in question masters tellers. Rather her job is to check out tellers' work ensuring that nothing is screwd-up, and to file necessary papers in the end of the banking day for accounting purposes. She's not expected to draw clients or to promote the bank's services - she's just the lowest link in the bank's accounting chain. Эйхер (talk) 18:40, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Reliable sources?
Is Motley Fool a reliable source? I ask re: its use in the article on judge Robert Gerber -- note that the source is apparently MF's discussion fora, which make my eyes glaze over. Similarly, is the BankruptcyLawReview thing reliable? Thanks in advance. DS (talk) 18:53, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- These particular sources are blog posts, so not the most reliable sources. (Bankruptcy Law Review also publishes edited articles that should be reliable.) However, the information in the article is badly out of date. Judge Gerber retired at the end of 2014, continuing to act as a recall judge in 2015 and handle the Lyondell case. There were significant later developments in that case, including a decision in November 2015. John M Baker (talk) 17:09, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Mortgage terminology
Greetings, I believe there is need for a correction re: the description of the terms of the entities involved in a home mortgage. I believe the lender is the mortgagee (giving the debt/loan) and the borrower is the mortgagor (obtaining debt/loan) compared to the article's (misspelled) reverse referencing. Binary options could use more attention. The binary options industry is in turmoil right now. The Times of Israel just ran a multi-part expose, "The wolves of Tel Aviv: Israel’s vast, amoral binary options scam exposed"[1]. They report that the whole industry is crooked. Most of the "brokers" are actually bucket shops; they claim to be brokers, but they're really the counterparty, or "house". Worse, "at some binary options firms, the online platform is manipulated to provide false results that ensure the customer loses." The Times of Israel even interviewed a programmer who worked on the "backdoor" for that.
IN 2014, we had the Banc De Binary fiasco on Wikipedia, where that company had offered $10,000 to anyone who could get their version into Wikipedia, and not mention their problems with the SEC and CFTC.Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive844#Banc_de_Binary.2C_Round_2. That ended with all BdB accounts blocked.
But, as it turns out, BdB wasn't the only one. There are more of these scam companies, many more. They may be connected; about half use the Spotoption platform. Since the Times of Israel expose, Israel's financial regulator is shutting down the binary option industry with respect to sales to Israelis. The US hauled two more outfits into court this week. There are crackdowns from Canada to Malta underway. An upcoming lawsuit in the UK names 120 firms.
The Times of Israel article indicates that these companies engage in heavy search engine optimization activity to make binary options look legitimate. We need to watch for this spilling over into Wikipedia.
See Talk:Binary_option#Is_the_whole_binary_options_industry_a_scam.3F for details. John Nagle (talk) 01:23, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

What qualifies as a stock market crash?
User:Smallbones and I have been in a debate on whether the 2016 Brexit stock market crash deserves to be listed at List of stock market crashes and bear markets over on its talk page at Talk:List of stock market crashes and bear markets. I felt that several instances of major media entities declaring it a crash and the fact that we have had the biggest worldwide one-day and two-day losses of stock market value of the equivalents of 2 trillion USD and 3 trillion USD would make this a crash. User:Smallbones thinks that a crash must cause a drop in 10% to 20% of an index to be a stock market crash. Is this a stock market crash or just a short term bear market? Proposed deletion of Implied multiple
The article Implied multiple has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- An unsourced article, very unclearly written so that it's hard to know what it means.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Melchoir (talk) 21:06, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Help with Pension Protection Fund (PPF)
Hello. I've published this request on the Pension_Protection_Fund talk page, haven't had a response yet, and wondered if I could rely on the help from WikiProject Finance.
I work for a PR agency called Lansons, working on behalf of one of our clients the Pension Protection Fund (PPF). We’ve reviewed the PPF’s Wikipedia page and have spotted a number of factual inaccuracies that we would like to suggest changes for. We have references for them.
We're engaging as a member of the Wikipedia community having signed the official agency/Wikipedia agreement set out here Wikipedia:Statement_on_Wikipedia_from_participating_communications_firms. This means we adhere to the guidelines, most importantly understanding we have a conflict of interest, meaning we let members of the Wikipedia community decide (or not decide) to make changes for us. Would somebody without COI be able to work with us please to make changes?
The first change we would like to suggest is the Chairman of the Pension Protection Fund is changed to Arnold Wagner, who has replaced Lady Barbara Judge. You can find a third-party reference for this announcement here [4]
We would also suggest changing the word ‘pensioners’ in the first sentence to ‘members’ as the PPF doesn’t just protect people who have already retired, but protects 11 million people who belong to defined benefit pension schemes. Almost half of its 225,000 members are ‘deferred’ members who have not yet retired. We would suggest referencing this Government source [5] for the change.
We have some other changes we would like to suggest and can list a few suggestions out soon. Many thanks. MichaelPWhite (talk) 09:39, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi wikifinance project editors, the creator of Lloyd Greif has asked me to notify you of the above afd. I have added it to a number of afd lists, but have not been involved with the afd or article in any other way. Coolabahapple (talk) 09:06, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, User:Coolabahapple. Unfortunately, User:RoySmith closed the AFD only two hours after you notified this WikiProject, so editors interested in finance won't have a chance to look at this very "numerically [...] very close" AFD.Zigzig20s (talk) 17:03, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- … Come on, Zigzig20s. Don't try to suggest that Roy did anything wrong here. The AfD was closed 16 days after the nomination despite not having been relisted. You can't complain that it was closed too early. If having notification placed here were as essential as you seem to be implying, then you were derelict in not having done so in the weeks previous. And I imagine that many (or most?) editors interested in finance-related AfDs keep an eye on Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Businesspeople anyway. Lastly, don't take "numerically […] very close" out of context. It was a phrase used in the context of a closing statement that said there was a clear consensus for deletion given the lack of reasonable arguments for the article to be kept. - Please stop replying to every single message I write on Wikipedia. You are clearly watching my contributions and replying to everything I say to criticize me. You have been doing this since you found me on a Hillary Clinton-related talkpage. Please stop. I guess you are trying to discourage me from editing Wikipedia, and you are getting there as it is becoming unbearable, but please stop.Zigzig20s (talk) 18:25, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- Anyway, the article has now found its way in my userspace: User:Zigzig20s/Lloyd Greif. Editors at WP Finance (NOT Graham), feel free to let me know if you think this should have been deleted, and how it could be improved further. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:32, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

FTSE MIB
How often do the components of FTSE MIB change? Is it frequent enough to make the article unmaintainable? I just declined the speedy deletion A7 request of ANIMA (Anima Holdings) on the grounds that membership of FTSE MIB was a credible claim of importance, but after seeing that the [Borsa Italiana site does not list it as a components, I deleted the article anyway as promotion. If the list changes frequently, it is not really suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia (I mean just the list, not the article itself). It would be better to just provide an external link where the reader can find the up to date information. SpinningSpark 15:34, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
- Partly answering my own question The index will be reviewed on a quarterly basis... To my mind, the table will always be out of date. More helpful to our readers would be a list of past members, as is done at FTSE 100. SpinningSpark 16:04, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages
Greetings WikiProject Finance & Investment/Archive 3 Members!
This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:
If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.
Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Best regards, Stevietheman — Delivered: 17:59, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Help with BNY Mellon?
Hello. As I've done in the past, I'm posting here to seek assistance with a few edits to the The Bank of New York Mellon article. You can see the edits in my Talk page note—they're all very small updates. I won't make the edits myself, because I am monitoring the article on behalf of BNY Mellon and have a financial COI. I welcome anyone to make the changes or leave me feedback on the Talk page. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 17:54, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Separation of investment and retail banking
There's a Cfd to delete a related category, so I threw together a skeleton article on the Separation of investment and retail banking by recycling the ledes of some related articles. I'm no expert on the area, but this is a very topical subject and an important one. We've got quite good coverage of Glass-Steagall etc in other articles, my aim was to try and push this article towards a more global overview - any Europe and Asia experts are more than welcome to contribute! Broker-dealer
I'm new to both Wikipedia and the Finance project, but hope to start producing edits and articles in the coming weeks. I recently added comments on the Broker-dealer article Talk, but it appears that the original author didn't have a User name, and that others have not been involved for several years. No one has responded to my comments, so I'm trying to redirect to people currently active in the project. Thanks WikiDorset (talk) 02:00, 7 March 2017 (UTC) 8 March 2017
Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Finance & Investment/Archive 3/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Finance & Investment.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Finance & Investment, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Private Equity Real Estate
This article contains a number of inaccuracies and mistaatements.
Private equity real estate is NOT the same as institutional real estate.
Institutional real estate pertains to the ownership of the asset -- i.e., when the asset is owned by a professional manager for the benefit of an institutional investor (pension fund, foundation, endowment, sovereign wealth fund, insurance company, bank holding company, real estate investment trust, etc.) Institutional real estate assets are managed by third parties for the benefit of others, vs. indnividual investing, where a single individual investor owns the asset. The term "institutional' has nothing to do with the type of real estate in which the institution is investing.
In fact, private equity real estate obviously can be held by both individuals or institutions. There's nothing specifically "institutional" about private equity real estate.
More specifically, private equity real estate is only one of the four quadrants of the real estate capital markets (private equity, public equity, private debt and public debt).
Private equity real estate refers to investing in real estate assets privately. Typically, this is done either through a fee simple interest or via some kind of holding company or entity that holds the fee simple title. It also includes derivative types of investments, such as investments in ground leases, air rights and other land holding rights associated with and sometimes stripped out of fee simple interests. Investors often will invest in a portfolio of assets through some kind of fund structure. Fund structures vary, from LLCs, Limited Partnerships, Private REITs, Collective Investment Trusts, Group Trusts, Insurance Company Separate Accounts, and several others. Investments can be made in pooled fund vehicles or in the securities of real estate operating companies, or venture capital operating companies.
The article suggests that debt funds are part of private equity real estate. Nonsense. Debt funds are part of the private debt real estate quadrant.
Public equity refers to investing in the traded equity securities of public companies that hold real estate assets, such as real estate investment trusts and publicly traded real estate operating companies.
Private debt refers to investing in whole loan commercial or residential mortgages, or partiipations in single or non-securitized or private securities of portfolios of whole loan commercial or residential mortgages. Investors also sometimes invest in the private (non-traded, non-listed) debt secruities isssued by both private and public real estate operating companies.
Public debt real estate refers to investing in securitized debt interests, including residential mortrgage backed securities, commercial mortgage backed secruities, and debt (bond) issuance from public or private real estate operating companies.
Some Institutional investors invest in all four quadrants, some only in private equity, some in two or three quadrants.
Furthermore, institutional investors invest in a host of different formats, not just closed-end funds. These include open-end funds, closed-end funds, individually managed (separate accounts), direct joint ventures, and club deals (organized by the investors rather than the investment manager, but sometimes organized by the investment manager).
The article also suggests that the term "institutional real estate" has been replaced by "private equity real estate." This simply is not true, for the reasons explained above.

Seeking some feedback
I have been making some changes and additions to Authorize.Net. It was not part of any WikiProjects, and I just added this one. I've been doing my best to use high quality citations and neutral/factual material; but since I work for the company, I'd like to have some feedback from experienced Wikipedia editors. There are some further changes I'd like to make, but I don't want to go too far without feedback, and it seems that nobody is watching the article very closely right now. Edit request: BNY Mellon
Hello, I've been working with BNY Mellon to suggest improvements to the article about the company. I posted this edit request asking for routine updates to the article, including fresh figures and the most up-to-date information on company executives and board members. Regarding company executives and board members, the article is inaccurate in its current form: Karen Peetz is not president, Gerald Hassell is not CEO, and the makeup of the board of directors is not the same as it was in February 2015. Also, at present the article contradicts itself: The infobox correctly says Charles Scharf is CEO, whereas the body of the article does not. I posted the edit request a few weeks back and have yet to hear from editors. Perhaps editors at WikiProject Finance are interested in reviewing the proposed updates? British pounds to Congolese francs
Hello, WikiProject Finance. I'm drafting an article on the Democratic Republic of the Congo's first government, User:Indy beetle/Lumumba Government. At one point I discuss the debt this country had to handle. The numbers given by the source are in British pounds (circa 1960 valuation), but I would like to render these in Congolese francs (which at the time were given the same value as Belgian francs, 1960). Help with Sageworks (financial tech company)
Hi! I'm wondering if WikiProject Finance editors might be interested in some proposed updates for the article on Sageworks, which makes financial data and analysis software, and collects financial data on the private sector. In full disclosure, I'm here on behalf of Sageworks as part of my work with Beutler Ink. To start with, I've suggested a proposal for the History section, to provide some background on how the firm got started and a few major milestones. I'm keen to get input from editors from this WikiProject since you may have some familiarity with this type of company and their offerings. At Talk:Sageworks I've provided some background on the history of the page and why I'm offering new drafts. Let me know if you have any feedback or questions. - I'm the original author of two category pages
- Category:Systemic risk This has a related article page Systemic risk that I did not author but could use updating. There may also be key Wikipedia pages that could be tagged with this category. Help from ASIA would be really nice!!!
- Category:Behavioral and social facets of systemic risk I did not write an article page on this but would participate in a group to write one. See the talk page for more. This is bleeding edge research - 10 toes over the front of the surfboard type stuff. However its very real and have found at least one initial survey article (top quality in a heavily refereed journal) so its undeniably legitimate. Would love help here!!!

Help with updates to New York Life
Hi, as well as my request for Sageworks (above), I'm working on proposing some article updates to New York Life Insurance Company. I'm wondering if editors from this WikiProject might be interested in giving this a review. To start, I've suggested a proposal to update the infobox. You'll see on the Talk page that I'm looking to correct the Net income to Operating income, add Products, Assets under management, and update the Number of employees. Project merger
I have become aware, as a member, that this project is becoming increasingly more inactive. I recently revived the WikiProject Investment and it has been growing.
So I would like to propose a merger of these two projects. It would benefit the general coverage of finance and investment on Wikipeda ´, as both of these topics have much in common.
Please let me know of what your opinion on this is.
Thanks! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 10:24, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- I don't really see the need, as finance and investment are and can be separate. But I won't oppose if others favor. Figureofnine (talk • contribs) 12:01, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Figureofnine: The two topics have a lot in common.Merging the project can definietly make "attracting" new members easier as more interests and a larger scope are/is represented.Currently the projects are neglected from a lack of active members and as one combined project it could have a bigger opportunity in becoming successful in improving Wikipedia.
- Cheers. WikiEditCrunch (talk) 15:16, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- I guess it's harmless enough. Inactive projects usually just stay inactive. This one is not totally dead. Figureofnine (talk • contribs) 15:22, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Figureofnine: The project is heading towards becoming inactive for sure.Id say this could be a great solution. Cheers. WikiEditCrunch (talk) 15:33, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- Go for it. By the way you don't have to ping me with each response. I've this page watchlisted. Figureofnine (talk • contribs) 16:55, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
- I support a merger. Investments is arguably a subset of Finance anyway, and in any case, there is clearly substantial overlap in subject matter. We also have a limited number of interested editors, and editors on the two projects also tend to overlap. John M Baker (talk) 15:10, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
- I am not sure how many users are needed to comment or approve this so to speak, but I guess it is reasonable to wait until more members of the Finance Project give their input. If this doesnt happen then can we just merge the projects? Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 19:07, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
- This is enough support if opposition does not emerge, but I would give it three or four more days to make sure that everyone has a chance to comment. If opposition emerges, you might want to give it the full 30 days, see WP:Merge. John M Baker (talk) 16:08, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- Good idea. Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 16:40, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- Since no one has opposed this merger since more than 4 days Ill start to merge the two projects.
- Just one more matter I would like to get an opinion on:Rename the Project (WikiProject Finance & Investment for example) or make a task force?
- Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 17:36, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
- That name makes sense. I see no harm with a merger. I've been watchlisting this page for seven years and I can't recall the last time anything of interest surfaced. Merger seems to be a good remedy for the blahs. Figureofnine (talk • contribs) 16:21, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
- As the merger is pretty much finished, I would like to propose a name change for the project to WikiProject Finance & Investment.
- I suppose Figureofnine somewhat agrees but getting some more opinions would probably be right.
- Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 17:08, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- I support the name change. While it is not, strictly speaking, necessary, it is desirable for clarity. John M Baker (talk) 19:07, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- Alright then. WikiEditCrunch (talk) 10:06, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject
Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Template:WikiProject Finance & Investment
The template {{WikiProject Finance & Investment}} does not work. Please arrange a fix.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 17:06, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

- Dthomsen8, since WP:WikiProject Finance has moved to WP:WikiProject Finance & Investment, and the template is still at Template:WikiProject Finance, I made a redirect at {{WikiProject Finance & Investment}}. A proposal to review crypto-currency articles in a more organized way
It has been my impression that WikiProject_Medicine is fully aware of the potential harm that could occur if there were errors in the articles within their remit— potentially far more serious than if say some random biography contained an error. While economic and investment articles are not the same league as the literally life-and-death issues in medical articles, the potential harm in mistaken articles is considerable. We know that there are many editors, often SPA's, more interested in making sure that an article about some crypto currency reads favorably, than making sure it is a neutral unbiased encyclopedia article. A recent post on Jimbo's talk page User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Bitcoin,_Tulips,_Facebook,_ICOs,_binary_options,_and_Slash_Gear identified the problem. While I'm not fully on board with the implicit solutions, I do agree with Jimbo's observation that perhaps a wiki project should take on the task of more formally reviewing the relevant articles and ensuring that they meet our standards.
While I haven't been active in this wiki project. I do have decades of experience in finance and have frankly not worked on finance articles mean because it seemed more like work than fun, but the sounds like something that deserves more attention. What do others think?--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:44, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- While this sounds like an excellent idea, you should be aware that this is an only modestly active project, so this may not be the best place to launch such a review. John M Baker (talk) 19:59, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- That is my fear. Editors with economics and finance knowledge seem to be sadly rare.--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:39, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

Haircut in finance
Greetings. There is an ongoing discussion in the Talk page of the article "Haircut (finance)." It concerns the alternative meaning the term has taken, specifically in the context of sovereign-debt write downs during and after the global financial crisis, i.e. the reduction in the face value of the troubled borrower's debts. I invite everyone to participate in it since the issue is rather important for the subject. Take care. -The Gnome (talk) 11:26, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Help with replacing defective article?
Hello, anyone watching this page: I'm writing to seek help updating the article for Broadridge Financial Solutions. It has been very bad for a long time, and more recently has been snipped back (not unfairly) to a mere stub where the extensive warning tag is almost longer than the article itself. I have a financial COI here, as I've been retained by the company to try to improve the situation. I've elected to write a new draft, and am looking for an unconnected volunteer to review it and, ideally, move it into the mainspace. If you're willing to give it a look, please check out the proposed replacement draft, as well as my talk page explanation. Any comment or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Seeking Editor Assistance for Consumer Bankers Association article
Hello, Wikipedia! I work for Consumer Bankers Association (CBA), and I'd like to suggest some improvements for the CBA article. I've made a post on the article's talk page, but there hasn't been any movement on the article yet.
The current article is very short and has not been updated since 2008. I've proposed a draft to add more content to the existing sections and build off of those as sourcing allows. Feel free to take a look at my proposed draft here - User:CBA NS/Consumer Bankers Association. I know about conflict of interest rules, and have done my best to follow the suggested procedures.
Are there any editors on Wikiproject Finance & Investment who can take a look at the draft and copy over content or provide any feedback? Thanks! CBA NS (talk) 19:11, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

List of banks (alphabetically)
Up until early January 2019 the article List of banks (alphabetically) was described as List of all banks, but then many banks starting with V were deleted and a few days later the article's description was changed by the same editor to List of notable banks. As this article has been of Top-Importance for our project, I was wondering whether this change was ok and which criteria for notability might be valid for banks.--Bob Smit (talk) 11:07, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hello @Bob Smit:, thanks for the question, and sorry I had not yet replied to you on my talk page. Because Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, list articles such as these are limited to notable entries only. The relevant guideline is at WP:CSC: "Every entry meets the notability criteria for its own non-redirect article in the English Wikipedia. Red-linked entries are acceptable if the entry is verifiably a member of the listed group, and it is reasonable to expect an article could be forthcoming in the future. This standard prevents Wikipedia from becoming an indiscriminate list, and prevents individual lists from being too large to be useful to readers." Banks fall under the notability standard for companies. Any other questions, let us know. UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:52, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Categorisation
Could some helpful person explain the difference between Category:Investment companies and Category:Investment management companies? I am a humble categoriser and I presumed that one would be a subcategory of the other. There is an article about Investment company, though it seems to be entirely about the USA and isnt very illuminating, and one about Investment management, but it doesnt really help me. Rathfelder (talk) 21:15, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- Rathfelder I think that those are different types of companies, although one company could fulfill both roles. I suggest the following references, which I have not completely reviewed but at first glance look reasonable to me.
--Pine (✉) 01:40, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'm afraid the more I read the more confused I get. Especially as I find more associated categories, like Category:Asset management. The general rule is that a category should have an article to anchor it, which explains the definition, among other things. We dont really seem to have that here, and I'm not very sure it would help, as it appears that the terms used are pretty flexible, and indeed that the organisations change over time and space. I'd like advice about whether the distinction between Category:Investment companies and Category:Investment management companies is helpful. My inclination is to combine them into one category, because, apart from any other consideration, apart from the UK and the USA, there are not sufficient articles to justify more than one category in a country. Quite a few articles appear in both categories. Rathfelder (talk) 10:52, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
I'm told an Investment Management Company would manage my money. An Investment Company would manage its own money - but I might be able to buy shares in it. Is that a reasonable summary. Rathfelder (talk) 11:58, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, that should be the answer. But in practice, the use of these categories seems to be hopelessly confused. It doesn't help that the anchor articles don't make sense. It also doesn't help that "investment company" is itself a vague term. It can mean either a company for the purpose of investment, without further specificity, or a company that is subject to regulation in the United States under the Investment Company Act of 1940, which seems overspecific. The latter clearly doesn't work, because the category includes non-U.S. funds and because U.S. investment companies (in the 1940 Act sense) tend to be in other categories, such as Category:Mutual funds of the United States. Investment fund might be a better anchor article. But then you get to the consideration that, in actuality, there are very few investment companies/investment funds that are notable enough to have a Wikipedia article. It looks like most of the companies in either category are actually investment managers. I don't think we even have an article for investment management firms, although we do have an article on investment management. John M Baker (talk) 22:08, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Neutrality and original research issues in articles related to Medicaid estate recovery
Recently, I noted that some of the content about Medicaid estate recovery that was added to the following articles introduced neutrality and original research issues into these articles:
- Special:Diff/682619084/912949236 :
- Special:Diff/909824345/912954601 :
- Special:Diff/901904756/912699623 :
- Special:Diff/905346028/912738497 :
- Special:Diff/910497164/912742742 :
- Special:Diff/909480199/909790623 :
I brought this to the neutral point of view noticeboard at WP:NPOVN § Medicaid estate recovery and User:NormSpier, and the editor who added the content (NormSpier) agreed to have it examined for policy compliance.
If you are interested in the topic of Medicaid estate recovery, or in United States healthcare laws in general, please help us review the newly added content at the noticeboard discussion or on the talk pages of these articles. Thanks. — Newslinger talk 20:22, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

OANDA
Apparently OANDA was AFD'd almost three years ago. They are widely used in cites and as a data source on enwiki (and likely other wikis) and their analysts are quoted virtually daily by top-tier news sources, including CNBC, Reuters, Bloomberg, and the BBC. I'm sure anyone with financial markets experience would find them "notable". Don't get me wrong – I'm definitely familiar with notability policy and constantly defend the wiki against commercial promotion. If someone keen on article creation is interested in finding the appropriate sources, I would think they have to be out there (sorry it's not my thing, and I do hate to ask others). Dispute at Negative number
This article includes a list of examples that I'm not too keen on generally, but one uncited example under the heading "Finance" said that credit and debit card statements show refunds as "negative debits." I removed this because "negative debits" are nonexistent in accounting, and as far as I know finance more generally. Debits are reversed by credits and nothing else. A debit of 10 is not reversed by a debit of -10 or a credit of -10, but by a credit of 10 (though a credit can have a minus sign before or after the number to show that it is a credit). I provided a source (a textbook) that says this very specifically. The removal was disputed on the talk page by editors who say that it was accurate as written and references to accounting are irrelevant. After back-and-forth, I tried rewriting the example and neighboring examples with more precise language instead of removing them. This was also reverted and I was told that I can't change it at all without consensus, but I don't see much chance of that if there isn't even agreement about what the subject is.
I would appreciate opinions on the talk page as to how these examples might be improved, and what kind of sources should or should not be used. 73.71.251.64 (talk) 03:29, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

2020 oil war
The 2020 Russia–Saudi Arabia oil price war is currently rated low-importance, but with oil prices falling below zero (producers paying people to take their oil), this seems to be of more import? Stock Exchange Lists
A lot of Stock Exchange lists (by region) include a column for number of listings, but they're mostly empty. List of stock exchanges in the Americas for example, has dozens of entries, but only 1 cell filled in for Listings! List of stock exchanges in Oceania has none, List of Asian stock exchanges has a smattering. List of African stock exchanges looked pretty good until I started examining the pages- I picked Camaroon's Douala Stock Exchange on a whim and the exchange doesn't even exist anymore! The number of actively trading public companies by country is good info, but it's changing too fast and sorely neglected on these list pages. The List of stock exchanges, which covers the most active markets in the world, doesn't even have such a column.
Is there a way to automate any of this? Or could the 'Listings' column just be removed? Advice(s) much appreciated Estheim (talk) 16:02, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Draft:MoneyLion
Fountainofyouth (talk · contribs) submitted Draft:MoneyLion (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for review.
The tone is a bit promotional and the company seems a bit on the new/small side and the references seem a bit on the "routine" side or they are a reflection of the company's own marketing efforts (e.g. the NASCAR sponsorship).
I'm asking of companies like this one - in terms of size, product/service offerings, and age - are routinely considered "likely to have reliable sources, if only someone would look" (every Fortune 50 company would fall in this category), if they are in the category of "huh? This better have some darn good sourcing" (your mom-and-pop company would fall in this category), or if they are in between.
If they are not in the first group, I'm strongly inclined to reject based on "failure to demonstrate notability" but I wanted to get some feedback from this WikiProject's editors first. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:29, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Thanks for the feedback. The genesis behind the page in the first place was based on other Neobanks listed on this page who are very similar in notability. There is a page for the NASCAR sponsorship but no page for the company sponsoring it. Albeit that the genesis of the sponsorship is derived from them. Understand the page is somewhat limited. Was hoping to get something in place and allow others to review / provide more substance. Perhaps in due course we will get feedback from more editors. Requested move at DeepFuckingValue
It has been proposed that the biographical article DeepFuckingValue (which is about an r/wallstreetbets user who played a significant role in the recent GameStop short squeeze) be moved to "Keith Gill (investor)" or "Keith Gill (financial analyst)". Weigh in on Deletion Discussion for Hemant Taneja?
Hi all - I've been working on the article for Hemant Taneja, a healthtech entrepreneur and GP at General Catalyst. The article has been nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Hemant_Taneja_(2nd_nomination), but not many editors have weighed in, despite the discussion being live for more than a week.
Would anyone here be willing to take a look at the discussion and weigh in, especially on questions of notability/WP:BLP? We haven't had many contributors to the discussion on either side, and I'd welcome input (or even just suggestions on how to improve the article) from folks that are more experienced with this space.
Also, please let me know if this is improper. I'm relatively new here, so I'm not sure what the standard is. WisePraline (talk) 14:36, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
Convertible security article expanded
Greetings Wikipedians! I've expanded this "high-importance" stub article: Convertible Security and added multiple citations to reliable sources. Is it time to remove the stub designation? If so, do I do that, or someone else? My modest qualifications for the edits to this article can be found in my user profile. Cordially, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 21:37, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- I've just noticed that many of the edits I made yesterday probably belong in the Convertible Bond article, rather than Convertible Security. Convertible Bond itself is in need of improvement. Ceaușescu's debt shenanigans: the uncertain conclusion
I'm in a situation that bugs me, a lot. Sources say that he made Romania debt-free. Then other sources say that Romania in 1989 had virtually (key word here) zero debt. This intrigued me, so I proceeded to look for hard numbers. Well, the 1990 CIA World Factbook lists Romania's debt as "none" as of mid-1989 (source 1). But then I find another source which breaks down all Soviet bloc external debts and...it ain't 0, not really. It's 0.4 billion as of 1989. What is zero in this source is the debt to the big bodies (IMF, World Bank) (source 2). Initially I thought that the Factbook overlooked this as too small, hence listing it as "none". But that can't be right, for the 1991 edition lists Romania's debt as of mid-1990 as...precisely 400 million, what the other source lists as the 1989 debt (source 3). I think of two possibilities: either the Factbook says "external debt" but actually means "public debt" (ie the state's debt, not including its individual citizens, but then again this was a totalitarian Communist state), or Romania somehow borrowed $400 million in the last days of 1989 after Ceaușescu was overthrown. Can anyone please help me make sense of all this? Is the debt 0 or 0.4 billion? Cause I want to write a comprehensive paragraph about the end result of his austerity policy, and I want to make sure I get it right. Transylvania1916 (talk) 17:57, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Transylvania1916. Frankly, I think the sources are kinda sub-par to deal with a subject like this. What you would need is some good scholarly source about the economics of Romania or the economic history of Romania. I have found something, which says that in 1990 Romanian public debt was basically 0. I have just typed "Romania public debt" on Google but I am sure there is more somewhere. JBchrch talk 21:23, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hello JBchrch, I thank you for your input. How about this OECD source, which puts Romania's total external debt at the end of 1989 as 0.0? Transylvania1916 (talk) 19:37, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Transylvania1916, it look to me like this source talks about external debt and not public debt. However, I did a little research and here are a few sources that confirm that Romania paid back its government debt in 1989 [6][7][8][9]. JBchrch talk 22:22, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- JBchrch I apologize for the long-delayed answer. I did some research, and resolved the issue. See, Ceausescu didn't seem to care much for internal debt. Thus, in terms of public debt, Romania was still not even in the global top 10 lowest as of 1989, in spite of its 0 external debt. Yet, it shot to 1st place in 1990. Ceausescu's successors used fiscal surpluses to write off the internal debt. I wrote it all in this paragraph. Transylvania1916 (talk) 22:21, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Sequoia Capital: Request for review
Hello! I recently posted a request to the Sequoia Capital article talk page asking editors who watch the page to review some proposed revisions to the History section. My request can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sequoia_Capital
As you'll see on the Talk page, there has been discussion about which of Sequoia's investments are worth discussing in the History section and which should only be mentioned in the Investments section. I think hearing from other voices on this issue—and on the preferred structure of the article in general—would be useful to help make sure the content aligns with the overall consensus.
Due to my conflict of interest (I work for Sequoia Capital) I will not make any changes to the article myself. Instead, I’ve reached out to experienced Wikipedia editors to review my proposals and hopefully implement changes when they believe the new material will improve the article.
Thank you so much! VS for Sequoia Capital (talk) 22:53, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

- Thanks for the ping. In general, finance as a whole is not considered to be a sub-field of economics. Of course, there are substantial overlaps between the two disciplines, including financial economics and monetary policy. Layout update
Hi! I thought an easy start would be to improve the layout of the WikiProject page to improve navigability. I'll be working on that for the next few weeks, and probably base myself off WP:MILHIST, WP:GOCE, and WP:LGBT due to my personal appreciation of their design. I'm brainstorming things like content drives and stuff for later (e.g. a month long stock market drive, or collaborating with WP:ECONOMICS on a month long debt drive) that could help attract contributions, but I'm still working out some kinks and researching other projects' drives before I propose anything here. - @Mx. Granger, JBchrch, BuzzWeiser196, and Fintor: I've added some tabs to the project for easy navigation so that the main page isn't a massive wall of text. Santacruz ⁂ Please ping me! 11:08, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- @A. C. Santacruz:: Good work on those tabs. I don't know how I feel about a content drive on the stock market. How do we know that area needs improvement? Is there something lacking about the stock market content now? I'd suggest we step back and come up with some criteria to focus our improvement efforts: for example, pages that haven't been touched in years, pages that lack citations, articles classified as stubs, etc. Regards, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 12:51, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- BuzzWeiser196, my personal opinion is that all areas need improvement. I proposed the stock market as that is an area that many are interested in, new editors or those that aren't experts in finance could help with (e.g. history of Amsterdam Stock Exchange), and covers a wide range of articles. I take inspiration from contests like WP:Atdrag, where a general focus on a topic area is encouraged. My perspective is that content contests rather than cleanup drives may attract the most new editors (what this project needs), although it is possible we could have something like GAN Backlog drives and tackle the list of Finance stub articles. Brainstorming welcome :) A. C. Santacruz ⁂ Please ping me! 17:13, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- I've done a bit more work with the layout, I think a very serious issue was that there were 3 or 4 different pages where assessment requests, edit requests, open tasks, and other feedback requests were listed but none of these pages were really all that visible (even the list on the main page was at the bottom). Hopefully the tabs will help prevent people like Fintor having assessment requests outstanding for years on end. A. C. Santacruz ⁂ Please ping me! 21:29, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
