Quick note on copy-and-paste page moves

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Gospel of John, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page James Carroll. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

October 2018

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Luxor, Pennsylvania. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Axos Financial page edits

[edit]

I noticed that you were interested in finance topics and was hoping you might be willing to chip in at Axos Financial. I work for the company and have been trying to get an editor to consider my suggested changes for 4.5 months. At one point an editor said the article was too boring, so I thought someone interested in finance might take more of an interest. I've asked to remove content that lacks independent secondary sources and to add sources where possible Gfrostaxos (talk) 18:29, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gfrostaxos: Thanks for being up front about your connection to the company. A couple of thoughts: 1) The comment that the article is "too boring" is really not relevant. It's more important to have an article that follows the "neutral point of view" principle. 2) There are too many statements that are supported by a company news release or SEC filings. We prefer verifiable, reliable secondary sources. But I hesitate to delete all such statements and leave nothing in their place. That guts the article that someone took time to construct, and I don't know enough about the company or the industry to provide something better. 3) The quarterly earnings release is a routine event that's not worth mentioning. Yet the article is silent on the March Newsweek and Rolling Stone stories about the Trump refinancing. Cordially, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 14:05, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Population was spread out

[edit]

I see you fixed that on one article. I made the mistake of updating the population of Goose Creek, South Carolina after seeing a newspaper article listing the largest cities in the state. But I found a 2019 estimate in the infobox that can't be fixed and an unsourced description of what the 2020 census said. So there's conflicting information, plus "the population is spread out". I know you can fix one of the problems but who can fix the others?— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:06, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Vchimpanzee: here's a link to the US Census Bureau QuickFacts tool which shows that the 2020 census was 46,229: https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/goosecreekcitysouthcarolina,US/POP010220. As for fixing the infobox, I will take a look at that shortly. Regards, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 01:47, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee:I've removed the 2019 estimate from the population section of the infobox. We also need to fix the Historical Population table: delete the 2019 estimate line and add 2020 with an inline citation to https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/goosecreekcitysouthcarolina,US/POP010220. The Census site is down for maintenance at the moment; I will take care of this once it comes back online. Regards, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 10:53, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Major cryptocurrency firm article corrections and important updates

[edit]

Hi, I see you’re a participant in the WikiProject for Finance and Investment and are currently active on Wikipedia. There are some corrections and important updates needed in the article about Digital Currency Group, one of the major players in cryptocurrency. I’ve started a discussion here.
