This Wikipedia:WikiProject Finance & Investment Content Drive is a one-month long effort to improve articles about or related to financial markets. It will begin on 1 April 2022, 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 April 2022, 00:00 (UTC). The goals of this drive are to:

  • Improve Wikipedia's coverage of financial market
  • Encourage editors to create content that will be useful to our readers
  • Reduce the backlog of articles with maintenance tags which might include original research or misleading information

Drive participants can earn barnstar awards based on a points system based on the quality and number of improvements as well as maintenance tags dealt with. Information on this system and the awards one can win can be seen at the awards documentation page.

The drive is open to all editors on Wikipedia, you don't have to be a member of WikiProject Finance & Investment. While expertise and knowledge of finance is recommended, there are plenty of other ways one can help. Guidance on where to find sources can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Economics/Reliable sources and weight.

The drive's coordinator is A. C. Santacruz. If you have any questions, feel free to add a new section to the Drive's talk page.

Instructions

[edit]
  1. Sign up by adding yourself to the list below. This will record a subsection of the page where you can record your edits.
  2. Find an article to edit. You can find them in Category:Financial markets and its subcategories. PetScan might allow you to find articles easier, but be aware that not all the results are under the purview of the WikiProject Finance & Investment (i.e. Britney Spears, which won't be counted as part of this Drive).
  3. Verify no one else is editing that article. Collaboration on an article is welcome and encouraged, but if you all wish to claim the points for this Drive please discuss this in the talk page of the Drive. This helps us make sure no one is taking credit for others' work.
  4. Record your work. You can follow the example below on how to do so. "Rating" refers to the grade granted under the Wikipedia content assessment system, which you can find on the article's talk page. If no grade is granted or you created the article as part of this drive, just write "None". Points will be given by the drive's coordinator. If you want someone to assess the article's rating, feel free to request an assessment in Wikipedia:WikiProject Finance & Investment/Assessment.

A. C. Santacruz I'd be glad to receive your newsletter and to work on improving relevant articles in your April effort. Today I began by improving the Yield (Finance) article. Cordially, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 15:07, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic, glad to see you here, BuzzWeiser196! I've added a section below so I can keep track of your work on the article. I'll update me once the drive ends or if you tell me you're done working on it.A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 15:17, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A. C. Santacruz Now that I look at this more closely, [[Yield (finance)] is a summary of references and links to other Wikipedia articles: coupon rate, current yield, yield to maturity, yield to call, etc. which address certain specific yield metrics in more detail. So it seems to me that the most orderly way to do this is to edit each of those articles as needed and then come back to [[Yield (finance)]. That way the text and references will be consistent across the articles it links to. Today I began that process by improving the Current Yield article. Regards, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 14:06, 7 April 2022 (UTC).[reply]
BuzzWeiser196 how's the article going? (btw I'm ACS just renamed) — Ixtal ⁂ (talk) 12:48, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A. C. SantacruzI'm finished with Current Yield. Still need to work on coupon rate and yield to call. I'll finish those before the end of the month; I know that's when the Drive ends. BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 13:38, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A. C. SantacruzAlso: I just improved the Energy Derivative article, which was very light on citations to reliable sources. BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 13:38, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A. C. Santacruz I'm finished improving Yield (finance); see its Talk Page for explanations. Any comments are welcome. I also suggest we delete the separate Wikipedia article on Nominal Yield. It's very short, so we can deal with it entirely in the [[Yield (finance)], and redirect Wiki searches on Nominal Yield to [[Yield (finance)]. Regards, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 19:35, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@A. C. Santacruz: I've finished improving the Floating Rate Notes article. Regards, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 19:23, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@A. C. Santacruz @User:Ixtal I've made some improvements to the floating rate notes section of United States Treasury Security. BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 15:22, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@A. C. Santacruz:

I received your newsletter regarding this kind of an initiative on 1 April 2022 but I initially didn't realise it to be honest. I only read the user talk message two days ago and I was bit interested in this project.

I created an article about Nandalal Weerasinghe, a central banker who is set to become the 17th Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in the wake of 2019–present Sri Lankan economic crisis. I created the article about him on 5 April 2022 as a start class article in relatively lengthy version but will it be possible for me to include Nandalal Weerasinghe here since its a fresh newly created article and also I have made further expansion today regarding the person's track record. Since Central Bank of Sri Lanka is an important monetary authority of the country and given the current crisis, I thought of adding this here. I haven't personally rated the article at the moment. Best regards. Abishe (talk) 14:18, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Abishe I'm glad you're interested in the project! However, I think the bio of Nandalal is only borderline part of the topic area. I'm a bit hesitant on counting it as part of this drive, but I'll give it some thought over the next few days. I've rated the article as a start so far. A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 14:53, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Abishe I don't think the bio is under the topic of financial markets just yet so I won't be awarding points for it, however I'm terribly glad you decided to cover such a relevant and important person so I'll be sure to help with assessment requests and other concerns. The Sri Lankan crisis article, however, does fall under the scope of the drive if you wish to work on that. In any case, thanks for working in finance articles and I hope you'll continue to participate in the project. Enjoy your weekend! :D A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 08:13, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A. C. Santacruz First and foremost, I apologize for the late response. I understand your suggestions and opinions on why the biography doesn't fall under this category. I will try to involve in other existing articles which require improvements. Thanks. Abishe (talk) 16:31, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Abishe if you need access to the newspapers I list on my page for your work feel free to reach out :) A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 08:53, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A. C. Santacruz Ah, thank you so much for the help. The newspaper access would be really helpful and I will start working on the areas for improvement especially the financial markets. Abishe (talk) 12:15, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
