WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Colorado will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Colorado's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 23:54, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Very large new "See also" sections being added to Colorado cities and towns

I've noticed that very large additions are being made to the "See also" sections of many Colorado cities and towns, for example:

These don't seem to add much but clutter, and don't seem to conform to the MOS WP:See also recommendations. In particular, the actual "See also" items tend to get lost in the boilerplate.

On the positive side, the multiple portals added do seem to be a useful addition.

The main editor involved seems to be Buaidh.

Please have a look, and see what you think. If this has been discussed before, a pointer to that discussion would be appreciated. Thanks, Pete Tillman (talk) 01:32, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Much of what this editor did doesn't meet the guidelines for See Also. See WP:OVERLINK too. Like links to Colorado, and the County article for the town in question....William 19:04, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Colorado Education

The Colorado Department of Education is the administrative arm of the Colorado State Board of Education.

As the administrative arm of the State Board of Education, CDE is responsible for implementing state and federal education laws, disbursing state and federal funds, holding schools and districts accountable for performance, licensing all educators, and providing public transparency of performance and financial data. CDE serves students, parents, and the general public by protecting the public trust through ensuring adherence to laws, strong stewardship of public funds, and accountability for student performance[1].

As this is the case I propose this article (Colorado State Board of Education) be moved under the title of Colorado Department of Education. The Department of Education's website lists the State Board of Education's page on it's (CDE) website. This appears to me to be an hierarchical situation placing the CDE above the State Board of Education. Wikipedia has prominence of BoE with barely a stub of the CDE. I will attempt to expand the CDE article to reflect this hierarchical situation and investigate how much may be merged or perhaps someone with more experience can offer a better solution. Currently I am creating a List of non-public schools in Colorado for the Wikipedia Project Colorado as one of their to do list requests. The name change is in line with CDE's official language (non-public schools). I am presently trying to move the List to article space but beforehand I was linking the districts and schools to current Wikipedia articles and now I am finding out that quite a bit of work needs to be done to clean up this situation now being presented for discussion. As a recently new editor to Wikipedia taking a bold initiative to see these things done, I would request comment from the tenured editor sector. This original discussion is being posted on the Talk:Colorado State Board of Education page and duplicated (copy/pasted) at the WP:Colorado talk page where this discussion should be held as other articles are being affected or will be by the time I am through figuring it all out. I will be watching all affected pages for replies or comments and my User_talk:Orschstaffer page in case I am overstepping my boldness or if I should direct my energies in some other way. I am Orschstaffer and this is a school project.

I've noticed, since I wrote this discussion at Talk:Colorado State Board of Education, that school district articles have been redirected to common names of school districts. I have not taken the time to review/research Wikipedia policy for naming conventions as they regard official names as such, Colorado Department of Education, whose nomenclature for school districts have been redirected to common names in Wikipedia articles (some not all). As encyclopedic articles, I would say factual names with references to common names are in order. I am sure I will eventually research this issue before I revert (or suggest/propose) school district names be the official nomenclature used by the CDE. Just like the List of non-public schools I am drafting now, which is ready for article namespace. This project requested a List of private schools in Colorado, which I drafted as User:Orschstaffer/List of private schools in Colorado however I propose the use of non-public as the CDE nomenclature is such (as well as the Colorado law). So I hesitate to move the article until this is resolved; and as well the links in the article list are not complete until the school districts are reverted back to the official names. If this subject and tasks is not of higher importance that I do hear of some concensus or guideline/policy, I will begin the reversion process beginning with the school districts in Colorado as per the list requires. What I am proposing goes further than just the list though as I am finding more articles that may require fine tuning as regards this educational thing.

Also, when I began this education venture, I wanted to go with the education project, however, that particular topic/category/(whatever) had too many edit war/pov/pedagogical confusion I almost quit this editing thing. But it is too important to let that deter me. So I am now concentrating my efforts with the Colorado Project. I am doing the bold thing and would like some experienced advice especially as my endeavors are a school project. Thanks for your patience and support. My efforts expand the Wikimedia Projects and intend to be global in cause.  O = M C 4  03:46, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Photographs

I'm a Colorado native and will be visiting family in several areas where Wikipedia entries lack photos. Mostly, these pages are about small towns on the eastern Great Plains. Does anybody have any guidelines on what to photograph to represent a tiny community? My concern is that for many such places, the representative photo might be of a gas station/covenience store or grain elevator, which could be construed as a commercial endorsement. And can a small page have more than one photo? Lthanlon (talk) 18:59, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

A grain elevator, a view down Main Street, a town square, a county courthouse or a grange hall might be good choices to represent a small town. I would stay away from a photo showing just one commercial establishment unless the building is interesting for some other reason. There are also articles besides towns that might need a photo. State highways in Colorado, Colorado RIvers, anything on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Colorado. For a small article, one or two photos should be plenty. But if you have other good photos that might come in handy when the article is expanded, feel free to upload them to the commons. --Footwarrior (talk) 20:36, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the guidance, Footwarrior -- it's much appreciated. Good idea about uploading additional photos to the commons. I'll also check out the other articles to see if I can help. Thanks again! Lthanlon (talk) 02:33, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

I've identified several towns I'm going to try to photograph in a few weeks and will follow your guidelines. Would brief videos work, as well? I'm thinking that in many cases a single still photo that represents a community could be complemented by a 30-second pan across a business district or highway crossroads. I don't see too many videos of this type of Wikipedia, so perhaps there are issues with this approach? Lthanlon (talk) 16:45, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template

Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Kumioko (talk) 18:20, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Kumioko says that there are no longer any bots performing the function that formerly copied those ratings. --Orlady (talk) 22:54, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Even though this is still unfolding, developing this should be a priority right now. There's a lot to do to describe the progress of the rain and flooding, and to detail the impact by county, and sections should also be added to the relevant articles on the affected communities. postdlf (talk) 17:53, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Hi,

I've been working on expanding the Pikeview, Colorado article, but I'm a bit confused. The original town of Pikeview was a mining town and railroad station stop near the present Mark Dahbling and Rockrimmon intersection, just of Interstate 25.

There is also Pikeview reservoir off Austin Bluffs/Garden of the Gods Road, Mark Dahbling, and Interstate 25 (i.e., 1.5 miles south of Pikeview). Then there is Pikeview Quarry Road to a quarry that is 5.6 miles west of Pikeview off of Vindicator.

There are also two other quarries nearby - on either side of Queens Canyon - one south and entered near Manitou Springs and the other off of 30th Street, which I think I've also seen called Pikeview Quarry. I've plotted these on google maps and am just trying to sort out whether Pikeview Reservoir and Pikeview Quarry should be in the Pikeview article. I am guessing that Pikeview Reservoir should be in the article, but I don't know about Pikeview Quarry.

Any insight would be really helpful! I've posted this on the article talk page so that the history is there. Thanks!--CaroleHenson (talk) 17:26, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Suggestion

Hello all! I was curious if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to make a (nonbinding) guideline on how all the individual US state WikiProjects should organize themselves, to help standardize them. I originally put this suggestion in the WikiProject United States talk page, so feel free to look there if you're interested. It's pretty empty though; basically all they said was to see what each of the individual projects thought about it. Please tell me if you have any concerns with this idea; hopefully we can find a way for everyone to love it! Also, I'm new at making proposals, so please forgive me if I do anything silly. :) Hope that you like this idea! JonathanHopeThisIsUnique (talk) 04:58, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

US 50,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more states than they might otherwise work on. If there's the interest I will start 1000 State Challenges like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of states regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for the US and your specialist/home state like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every state, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any state sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thankyou.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:11, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Updates for Charlie Ergen

Hello, my name is Caroline. As an employee of DISH (as disclosed on my profile page as well as the article's talk page), I have suggested improvements and updates to the infobox at Charlie Ergen, chairman of Colorado-based DISH Network and EchoStar. You can see the request at Talk:Charlie_Ergen#Updates_for_infobox. I was hoping editors here at WikiProject Colorado might be able to assist with these updates. Thanks in advance for any help. Conflict of interest discussion relevant to project

Hello, I recently started a discussion on the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard about a set of Colorado Government IP addresses (I believe, in the state legislative offices) who have been editing Colorado politicians' articles for some time without COI disclosures. The articles listed in that notice have several potential COI and vandalism issues stemming from both IP and named users. Please take a look at the discussion and help as you can. - - mathmitch7 (talk/contribs) 15:03, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Passing of Richard Meyers (2012)

Very sadly, it has only just come to my attention that the editor User:Richard Myers passed away in December 2012; an obituary appears here, there was discussion on Daily Kos about his passing and a memorial event organised in 2013. He was active in this project and the organized labour project (and intersections of the two projects such as Ludlow massacre). He was also a very early Wikipedian, beginning his contributions in 2004. I found him warm and generous in all my interactions and wa genuinely committed to the goals of this encyclopedia. For those who wish to remember him, messages can be left on his talk page: User talk:Richard Myers. I'll be putting together a note for Signpost, please contact me if you wish to contribute. User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Population change lists

Buaidh recently created the list articles Population history of Colorado counties, Population history of Colorado municipalities, and Population history of Colorado census-designated places as splits from the parent List of counties in Colorado, List of municipalities in Colorado, and List of census-designated places in Colorado, respectively. I commend Buaidh for all of the efforts in adding this content, but it seems that the organization of this content would greatly benefit from discussion and input from others. I understand these pages may still be under construction, and setting aside the potential WP:NOTSTATS issue, currently the content does not seem properly allocated between the new lists and the original ones and present WP:CONTENTFORK concerns. Population history of Colorado counties contains columns for land area, water area, min. and max. elevation, links to county websites, and links to maps that are not directly related to population changes and do not appear in the main article where they would be more appropriate. It may be possible to have a second table in the main counties list article rather than a separate article. Population history of Colorado municipalities only adds an additional census's worth of data over what is currently found in the parent list, but also adds land area and water areas, websites, and map links, which would be more appropriate in the parent list instead (perhaps coinciding with the removal of redundant population data from the main list). Finally, most problematically, Population history of Colorado census-designated places completely duplicates the content at List of census-designated places in Colorado with additional columns, some of which are unrelated to population, suggesting the new content could simply be added to the parent list. Additionally, when duplicating tables like this to create new pages, it is important to note in edit summaries where the tables originated per WP:Copying within Wikipedia, which was not done here. Overall, the list content should be appropriately distributed between the two lists, with minimal duplication of content, or they should be merged into the parent lists. This Thursday, I will be meeting with an archivist from the University of Denver's Special Collections to discuss access to their wealth of materials on Colorado history. As I am a student there, I don't expect this will be my only opportunity to access this collection. However, I would prefer to accomplish as much as I can in one go. If any members of this project wish for me to retrieve publications or public-domain images from this collection, please reply to this thread or ping me on my talk page by noon MT on Thursday. A full list of their collection can be searched here. Approximate location appears to be roughly halfway between the Blue River arm of Lake Dillon and Breckenridge, so roughly south of Preston and the Jumbo mine; It is toward the end of Tiger Road (Summit County Road 6) where the dredge tailings end and immediately east of Forest Road 355-1B. Just beyond the site is the Parkville Cemetery with the Masonic marker. Coordinates for the site are 39 degrees, 30 minutes, 4.6 seconds north and 105 degrees, 56 minutes, 51.7 seconds west.: [2], [3] ~ Pbritti (talk) 20:59, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
Parkville briefly contained a small mint; will look for images of the coinage/tokens or dies: [4] ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:03, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

Alright, site found. I'll try to XC ski in this weekend to see if I can grab some photos of the modern site. Anyone is free to ping me if they have specific requests for those images. ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:08, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

The Geographic Names Information System incorrectly gives the Parkville coordinates as 39.4988727, -106.9500441 at an elevation of 10466 feet in Eagle County. I believe these should have been 39.4988727, -105.9500441 at an elevation of 10000 feet in Summit County. This would explain why some people had difficulty finding Parkville.  Buaidh  talk e-mail 21:57, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
I'll double check it. I think the discrepancy is partly the road marker v. the now-buried site. I'll take elevation measurements at each and we can see which source is best based on that (and perhaps use the coordinates from a photo). ~ Pbritti (talk) 22:38, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
The elevation at coordinates 39.4988727, -105.9500441 is approximately 10,000 feet.  Buaidh  talk e-mail 23:08, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

San Miguel

On November 1, 1861, Costilla County was created with San Miguel as its county seat. In 1863, the Costilla County seat was moved 17 miles (27 km) north to San Luis. It wasn't until 1869, that surveys revealed that San Miguel, now renamed Costilla, was actually located in the New Mexico Territory. This is an interesting bit of Colorado trivia. Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. There is a new List of highest towns in Colorado. Please take a quick look since a deletion effort is already underway. I'm not sure why Colorado is so frequently maligned. Yours aye,  Buaidh  talk e-mail 23:07, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Proposed merger

I am proposing to merge the List of places in Colorado with the List of populated places in Colorado. Both lists contain all of the 3400+ populated places places in Colorado, but the List of places in Colorado only contains about 600 of the 23,775 non-populated place names. Let me know what you think. Yours aye,  Buaidh  talk e-mail 00:32, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Timeline of Denver format

I've been working on the Timeline of Denver article, taking out non-notable events and adding in notable events with cites. What I am wondering is if it ought to be reworked to have a format more like the Timeline of Colorado history article with events in a table and reverse chronological order. I'm not going to change anything right away, just wondering if people have opinions on how well or not the current format works vs. other possible ones. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 21:49, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

@MatthewFromColfaxLibrary: I think that the current formatting is appropriate, per similar timelines of other cities (Timeline of New York City being my deference here). However, I do thoroughly commend your efforts! Thanks for taking on such an onerous task—feel free to ping if you want a second set of eyes on anything Colorado-related! ~ Pbritti (talk) 22:41, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
@Pbritti Thanks for the offer of help. Happy to work with others. I'm not finding it onerous, just somewhat slow going. Lots of things to read to find the little nuggets of information and I'm still working at understanding the Wikipedia book citing system. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 18:49, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
@Pbritti Just did the major revamp edit of the page. I've been gathering better references and trying to confirm every entry. When/if you have time let me know what you think. I decided that dividing up the book references by when they were printed was a bit silly, but I can organize them into the by century thing again if prefered. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 23:36, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@MatthewFromColfaxLibrary: You caught me at a good time! I'm looking at the article right now! Thanks for the ping. ~ Pbritti (talk) 23:43, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Colorado timelines

WikiProject Colorado currently supports six Colorado timelines:

  1. Timeline of Colorado history
  2. Timeline of Aurora, Colorado
  3. Timeline of Boulder, Colorado
  4. Timeline of Colorado Springs, Colorado
  5. Timeline of Denver
  6. Timeline of mining in Colorado

These timelines don't need to be in the same format, but they should correlate. They can also share references. The February 11, 2024, meeting at the Gonzales Library in Denver would be a good time to start a new timeline effort.  Buaidh  talk e-mail 18:08, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

This is a good topic to bring up.
I was actually going to ask a question about this topic related to what should or should not go into them. There are currently a few items in the Timeline of Denver that do not directly relate to the city, like an entry about the Denver Federal Center. Denver in the name, but actually in Lakewood. Should the Denver Timeline be about just the city and things that relate to it like Denver Water projects or the Mountain Parks System? Or should it be the whole metropolitan area? So some of the items from Aurora and more items from the surrounding suburbs?
If we use the metro area definition I should probably round up the founding of Littleton, Northglen, Lakewood, Edgewater, etc. If not I think we should probably have one or two more timelines like a Timeline of Jefferson County and a Timeline of Arapahoe County, eventually.
Right now I am mildly in favor of a Denver in the Metro sense because the surrounding cities are important and their history is so intertwined with that of the other suburbs and with that of Denver. Trying to separate them is like trying to describe a limb of a tree without talking about how it relates to the tree as a whole. The downside is the potential of potentially being too long or big or of needing to leave out events that are significant to a suburb, but not to the metro area as a whole. Something to think about. I'm not going to change Denver away from a Denver only focus until there is a reasonable consensus about how it should look. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 17:48, 3 February 2024 (UTC)

In person meeting?

I'm seeing if there would be interest in having an in person meeting in Denver and/or eventually having a Wikipedia:edit-a-thon to share tips, attract new editors, etc. I work at the Gonzales Branch Library in Denver so I know the ropes about reserving a room and would be happy to organize one on a Sunday. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 16:56, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Sounds interesting to me. ~Kvng (talk) 03:09, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
@Kvng How is Sunday February 4th for you? MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 16:21, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
@MatthewFromColfaxLibrary: I'm going to be in the Denver area this upcoming Sunday and Wednesday–Thursday next week for a brief visit. Sadly, I guess I'll miss out on this. However, I hope as many people as possible are able to meet up! ~ Pbritti (talk) 18:09, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
@MatthewFromColfaxLibrary I'm afraid I'll be in Crested Butte on Sunday. ~Kvng (talk) 15:37, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
@Kvng Is that an every Sunday thing or just the 4th of February? If you'll be around on the 11th of February at 2:30 let's have a little meet then. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 17:16, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
11 February at 230p will work. ~Kvng (talk) 13:39, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
How big a meeting do you wish this to be? We usually only get a handful of users. Richard Knipel sent out an e-mail notice yesterday, and I can post a User_talk invitation. There will also be an online meeting on Tuesday evening, February 13, 2024, 8:00-9:00 PM MST. Yours aye,  Buaidh  talk e-mail 18:21, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
The Gonzales branch is large, I have the upstairs meeting room reserved and that can comfortably seat 12 people and can seat as many as 20 packed in. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 19:54, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for everyone who came. I think we can do it again next month, provided the weather is good for travel. MatthewFromColfaxLibrary (talk) 23:37, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I have posted a question at Talk:Sapiah#Article title about whether the most appropriate title for the article should be Sapiah or Buckskin Charley. If you'd like to weigh-in there, that would be great!–CaroleHenson (talk) 13:54, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I have really wanted to attend these online meetings. I have memory and days of cognition problems that take me out-of-pocket and I have missed them. I will work harder for the next one.–CaroleHenson (talk) 14:06, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Requested articles - Neighborhoods

Hi,

There's a request for an article about "West End" in Colorado Springs that just seems to be a name for a post office location in Colorado Springs. There is a neighborhood called "Westside". See this map or this one that is much easier to read and includes future neighborhoods out of Banning Lewis Ranch from the City of Colorado Springs site - it's between Old Colorado City and Downtown.

Would you mind if I changed it to "Westside"?–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:52, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Oh, I found "West End" at the List_of_populated_places_in_Colorado with this end note 49 about Old Colorado City (which is next to Westside and is sometimes conflated as the same area).–CaroleHenson (talk) 03:00, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
The link in the note goes to a page that talks about Old Colorado City and "west side". There's no mention of "West End" and I don't find West End in the City of Colorado Springs neighborhoods pages, nor GNIS.
I added "Westside, Colorado Springs to List_of_populated_places_in_Colorado - and I updated the note there for "West End" to state that the efn/note refers to "west side". There is no GNIS record for West Side, but it's on the City of Colorado Springs neighborhood pages.
It could be that there's confusion about "West End" relative to "West Colorado Springs", which is a combination of neighborhoods west of I-25 and west to encompass Manitou Springs. Ironically, the google map of "West Colorado Springs" omits the "Westside neighborhood", which is south of Unitah, west of I-25, and east of Cresta / 21st Street.–CaroleHenson (talk) 14:41, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Colorado pioneers category

As an FYI, I created Category:Colorado pioneers as a subcategory to

The people that are in the category so far came from

There is also a List of mountain men to research for Colorado content, but I am wondering if there should be a category for

Perhaps the people from the New Mexican territory and Nuevo México who settled in Colorado should be in the pioneers category. I am not at all sure.

Any guidance is appreciated!–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:55, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
