Atlanta Constitution
[edit]Hi all--I need your help. I'm looking for an article from the Atlanta Constitution, October 19, 1890. Unfortunately I do not have a title or a page number, but it's a report on a celebration held in memory of Sidney Lanier. The LoC seems to offer access to some copies of that weekly, but not that year--see this page. Do any of you have alternate fontes? A mention of that article is here, p. xxii.
Thanks so much, Drmies (talk) 22:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

- @Drmies: Good news is I got the film and found the page the article is on. I grabbed a scan, not the best quality, but if you send me an email I will forward that scan, and can take a better quality one in a few days if the need arises (as I rather think it will). - @Drmies sent the first attempt at scanning. At the very least we now know the article is titled "Sydney Lanier" and it is on page 11. Eddie891 Talk Work 02:54, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

"George Griffith – Warrior of If" in "The Raid of 'Le Vengeur'" and Other Stories
[edit]- Moskowitz, Sam (1974). "George Griffith – Warrior of If". "The Raid of 'Le Vengeur'" and Other Stories. Ferret Fantasy. pp. 6–47. ISBN 978-0-904997-03-3.
For George Griffith. I requested this previously, see WP:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request/Archive 146#George Griffith – The Warrior of If, and was alerted to Moskowitz's "War: Warriors of If" in Strange Horizons: The Spectrum of Science Fiction (1976), which is available via the Internet Archive. It turns out that these two essays are not identical, and there is a fair amount of information in the earlier essay that is not present in the later one. See also my request for other material in the same book at #George Griffith bibliography from "The Raid of 'Le Vengeur'" and Other Stories.
Thanks in advance. TompaDompa (talk) 00:34, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- I have this source but the two requests together are 50-odd pages... That's over 1/3 of the book, and all of Moskowitz's own writing. I'm not sure I feel comfortable that it wouldn't violate copyright to send that much. Eddie891 Talk Work 17:45, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hm. I don't know how to move forward with that concern. I mean, I would only request the stuff that differs from the 1976 version of the essay (which is as I said earlier freely accessible via the Internet Archive), but of course I can't know what the differences are without comparing them side-by-side. What little I am able to glean from Google Books snippets confirms both that there are large portions that are identical and that there is a fair amount of information that is only in the 1974 version. The snippets have thus far been rather helpful to expanding the article in preparation for a future WP:Featured article nomination, so I expect that the rest of the material would be as well. Ping Eddie891. TompaDompa (talk) 05:10, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- I understand, and I'm sorry but I don't feel comfortable scanning this section (believe me, if I felt it would be permissible, I would). Perhaps Worldbruce (or others) could advise if I'm mistaken? Eddie891 Talk Work 15:30, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- Ping Diannaa, who I believe is particularly knowledgable about copyright questions, for advice on this. TompaDompa (talk) 23:24, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Greek biography of Panagiotis Stamatakis
[edit]- Petrakos, Vasileios H. (2022). Παναγιωτης Α. Σταματακης : βιος και εργο [Panagiotis A. Stamatakis: Life and Work]. Athens: Archaeological Society of Athens. ISBN 9786185047672. OCLC 1370302528.
For Panagiotis Stamatakis. This is a bit of an odd request: I have completely drawn a blank as to how I would get hold of this book: OCLC has a few copies available in US university libraries, but those are a bit far to go from northern England.
If anyone is somehow able to access it and scan any part (the early parts up to 1876 are likely to be the most use: I would suspect that anything about Mycenae/Μυκηναι is duplicated elsewhere: equally, later material after 1878 is fairly hard to come by at present). Alternatively, if someone can track down a possible route to getting eyes on it in the UK, would be much obliged.

(I was incorrect about the digitised version, its actually a copy of this second book, on another Esperanto website) The cover of the Szerdahelyi is shown here - it's the first volume of a set of three. - @Frzzl: Hi, I could find the discrepancy. We know, that this is a set of three volumes. But the list of contents I sent to you is the one of volume 2 and has only 325 pages. It looks like one library made the mistake and bound the TOC of volume 2 to volume 1 and many libraries copied this mistake. Meanwhile I got the TOC of volume 1, and this one has 466 pages like you said. I send you the TOC of volume 1. Kind regards – Doc Taxon • Talk • 10:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

The best new albums to listen to this week
[edit]For Soft Spot (song) and Beachin. I just dug out a review in the Sunday Times for the latter single via Palm Artists' Instagram which appears to be part of Dan Cairns' "The best new albums to listen to this week" series, for which the 30 January 2022 edition appears to have been pulled. If anyone has access to back issues, I'd like to confirm that it appears as it does on Instagram (just to make sure that they haven't interfered with it).
Thanks, Launchballer 22:44, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

- I've retyped the whole thing just in case I need it. "A duo who met when Piri, aka singer-songwriter, then a chemistry student at Lancaster University, discovered Tommy Villiers' band Porij, which formed at the Royal Northern College of Music. Soft Spot, the second song the couple wrote, became a huge, TikTok-assisted streaming hit last year, its mix of skittering drum'n'bass and nostalgia-infused pop immediacy [sic] sticking like glue. Their new track Beachin, inspired by the pair's first trip to the seaside together, is just as limpet-like: the combination of classic soul guitar, dubby bass and serpentine melody is pure musical escapism, the Nineties colliding with the 2020s, a song that both suspends and turns back time."--Launchballer 08:41, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

How to access specific books from archive.org
[edit]For Draft:List of songs recorded by Bruce Springsteen
I'm not sure if he is where to ask but I request assistance on how to access books like the above from archive.org that are only available "to patrons with print disabilities". I've searched through the site and can't seem to find an answer. I used to be able to access several Springsteen-related books with a simple account but now they're all blocked through that. If someone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:15, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Zmbro, this is probably related to the Hachette case, which has unfortunately forced the Internet Archive to cut back on what it makes available. I've occasionally had luck with some combination of 1) using the "search" feature on the side, 2) specifying a particular page in the URL (i.e. replace "55" in your link with something else), and/or 3) clearing your cookies. If that doesn't work, I do have access to this particular book by other means, so feel free to email me if there's a chapter or two you need. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 20:22, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Damn that's unfortunate. Well if I need assistance I'll be sure to reach out. Thanks! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 14:17, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

I've picked up a useful and interesting bit of information on these pages (essentially, that Broun's unmatchedly-prolific work in identifying New Zealand beetles caused a lot of headaches, because he tended to "identify" multiple species where only one existed), but don't have the proper bibliographic information to cite it. - Rjjiii We don't have access to Newsbank through the Wikipedia Library (Newspapers via Ancestry or Newspaper Archive; the former only has articles from 1917 and 1918), but I am fairly confident you can ask anyone from WikiProject Ohio to help. They have the best chance of finding what you need. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 12:18, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- This I do have access to, so shoot me an e-mail and I'll send over those. Wizardman 23:17, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Wizardman: you're awesome. I've just sent the email. If you ping me over the weekend and I'm unresponsive, I'm probably overwhelmed with all of the holiday things I should have done this week but did not. Thanks again, Rjjiii (talk) 04:59, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
