Sat August 24: Roosevelt Island Wiknic
August 24: Wiknic @ Roosevelt Island | |
---|---|
You are invited to the picnic anyone can edit on Roosevelt Island, at Southpoint Park. Following up on this month's Wikimania in Poland, this Wiknic will have as guest of honor User:DerHexer, the 2024 Wikimedia Laureate of the Year, marking his triumphant North American tour! Bring a picnic blanket and some potluck, as well as some sunscreen! We'll also provide a little something for everyone, but we encourage you to bring your own favorite dishes to share, especially for those food cultural topics you would like to improve on Wikipedia. We'll also do a portal thing for a bit with West Coast friends at the WikiLA ocean life edit-a-thon. All are welcome, new and experienced! Saturday, August 24, 2024 NYC Wiknic @ Roosevelt Island (RSVP on-wiki)
All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct.

Colleague: This is the link which justifies the change. Hope it helps. Its official and deemed to be university is a norm in Indian settings.

- You still need to establish consensus for your change. Please open a requested move discussion. voorts (talk/contributions) 13:30, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
The article Fan wiki you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Fan wiki for comments about the article, and Talk:Fan wiki/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article is eligible to appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page, you can nominate it within the next seven days. Thank you for improving article quality in August! - Today's story is about a stage director, - watch Aida, so tender so cruel. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:19, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
New editor wanting a look at a draft law article
Hi voorts! I'm a new user mentor and I've got a mentee on my talk asking for a check over a draft law article. I don't feel confident enough in my knowledge of the area to be able to help much with their submission – would you mind taking a look over Draft:Praeterintention? Or I could ask the WikiProject if you prefer, just not sure how best to proceed with their question. Thanks! Perfect4th (talk) 04:19, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- This draft was discussed (briefly) at WikiProject Law recently. Unfortunately, as you noted in your response to your mentee, it's still highly technical. It's unfortunate that your mentee believes that
simplifying it further means giving the user wrong information
. Notwithstanding that Wikipedia is for a general audience, even I as a practicing attorney am having trouble understanding what praeterintention means after reading that draft. I'm not sure there's much else to tell this editor other than what you've already said about providing context/summary style. Best, voorts (talk/contributions) 13:43, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Promotion of Costello's
DYK for Costello's
On 28 August 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Costello's, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ernest Hemingway broke a cane over John O'Hara's head in Costello's, an Irish bar in New York City? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Costello's. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Costello's), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Costello's name
A cup of coffee for you!
Thanks for letting me know about the necessary changes to RfC:_Trump_infobox_photo. It really helped me understand the formatting Wikipedia requires. If there's anything else I can learn, please let me know. Goodtiming8871 (talk) 09:30, 28 August 2024 (UTC) |
Thoughts
I apologise for cutting across your proposal to vote on blocking yesterday. I understand why you suggested it, and I must admit I was close to considering it. I just felt we might avoid alienating what otherwise appeared to be to be a useful editor. There is no guarantee that I am correct, of course. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 16:54, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- No need to apologize. The discussion was closed without action. I hope you are correct about this editor, but like Fastily, my spidey senses were tingling. voorts (talk/contributions) 19:03, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
