Featured article help
[edit]Hey, well the main problem I see with the articles is that are very short, that's probably due to the lack of sources, but I would try and expand the articles anyway you can. I would suggest taking one of them to peer review, that way you will get the views of a few reviewers (hopefully) and they can tell you what areas need to be improved. At the moment I think the articles would struggle to get to FA, but if you try and model the article on a current FA Germany women's national football team, then I think you've got a chance. The only problem is that the teams don't seem to have much playing history which would make it hard to extend the article, I would definitely put one at Pr, though to get some feedback. Let me know when you I'd be happy to lend a few comments. Also it might be worth asking for a few more opinions at WP:FOOTY, as there a lot of users there with experience of getting articles through the featured process. Interview Wiki news
[edit]I'll have the interview done for by tomorrow. The first time I took my 30 minutes to fill it in and then went to copy paste and everything was suddenly gone so i wasn't really in the mood to write all over again but I'll re-write it again and have it for you by tomorrow. [edit]Was your removal of content on The Churchill Hotel because of a Wikipedia policy, or as a personal preference-like thing? (Link is incorrect). ⇒TAP 07:46, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
As you were a recent participant in an edit war at the above-named article I am taking the opportunity to warn you formally that the article is now under a no-reverts rule. This means that from now on anyone making a revert will be blocked instantly without further warning, except in cases of really obvious vandalism. Instead of reverting, you should consider trying for compromise either by drafting a good-faith compromise in the article, or discussing towards one in talk. Edit-warring deters other editors and poisons the atmosphere that we need to edit constructively. Please do not do it. --John (talk) 15:23, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Laura. I'm sorry to have to raise this at all, but your recent messages to various editors in regard to the Justin Bieber on Twitter AfD seem to run afoul WP:CANVAS. I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but while there is room for notifying interested parties, it probably wasn't the best choice to focus mostly on one side of the debate. I'm not sure if anything can be done to balance things out a bit, but it might be worth being a tad more careful with notifications to avoid any mistaken perception of bias. - Bilby (talk) 05:57, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I don't believe it was one sided. I attempted to comment on everyone's talk page who participated in the merge conversation, with the exception of Lady Shallot and drmies. I can comment on theirs if required but my understanding was they were already aware of this. Beyond those two, I think everyone else was alerted no matter how they voted. --LauraHale (talk) 06:04, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Not really. You did alert everyone who voted against merging, but you missed most of the people who voted for. Presumably drmies and Lady Shallot are aware of the afd, but there are others, such as Istara and Til I Go Home who weren't. I figure it was just an oversight, or you assumed that they would already know - my concern is only over a perception, rather than necessarily anything more, and so I figured it was worth raising briefly. - Bilby (talk) 06:15, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Both you mentioned were already participating in the deletion debate. I was not aware I had to inform users who had already voted about the existence of the conversation? And some of the people I have notified who supported a merge came in and voted delete very soon after having been informed by me. Have you also messaged the nominator about how they failed to inform myself, Hawkeye7 and drmies about the deletion notice and others who participated in the merge conversation? --LauraHale (talk) 06:21, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Did they? Perhaps I missed them - that would explain things - but I couldn't see their votes. At any rate, I thought Hawkeye7 made a pretty good point about how LuciferWildCat stuffed up there, and I agree that it was pretty bad form. The article creator should always be contacted when something the wrote goes to AfD. - Bilby (talk) 06:37, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I might have made a good faith miss on Till I Go Home because they have been active in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ashton Kutcher on Twitter that conversation. In any case, I can/will go ahead and notify them.--LauraHale (talk) 06:39, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- That's all I thought must have happened - just an oversight. I wasn't aware of the other AfD, so that makes a lot of sense. All's good then. :) - Bilby (talk) 06:41, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not a fan of the Kutcher article. I think the article is notable but just annoyed with it. The screencaps on Kutcher need to go. I'd actually be inclined to support an AfD/Merge for Barack Obama on Twitter. I've spent more time than I care to admit trying to make sure Justin Bieber on Twitter stands as independently notable and Obama isn't anywhere near that, with like zero mentions in most of the sources I'm looking at. His coverage is NOT independent of other coverage, whereas Bieber and Gaga coverage is often mentioned independent of other topics or where people talk about how batshit insane Bieber's Twitter followers are. It should be merged into Use of Twitter by celebrities and politicians but I'm not going to actually do that. Anyway, tl;dr oversights were accidental. --LauraHale (talk) 06:50, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've been generally aware of them, but haven't been following the AfDs much - too much marking to do at this time of year, and what time I'm not spending marking seems to be taken up on data collection. :) Anyway, I'm glad I raised things with you - it was an easy fix, and didn't warrant mentioning anywhere else. Good luck with the AfD. - Bilby (talk) 07:04, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I submit my thesis tomorrow. AfD is a question of what is notable and encyclopediaic. There are over 150 sources in the article. I could probably add another 3,000 if necessary but I've been focusing more on academic sources today to help build a better argument against fancruft. --LauraHale (talk) 07:08, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- In that case, extra good luck with the thesis. I hope it get's accepted outright without changes. :) - Bilby (talk) 07:16, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Won't happen but nice to be optimistic. :) Twitter is a major part of my thesis. Hence my interest in these articles. --LauraHale (talk) 07:19, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- That's a much cooler topic than my work. :) I'm stuck with much more boring epistemology research. I should have done twitter. - Bilby (talk) 07:34, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Plenty of room for Twitter research in other fields. ;) My stuff is basically methodology. --LauraHale (talk) 07:36, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Olympic Sports
[edit]Not necessarily criticising your delisting of said article as in its current state it is a bit lacking on sourcing, but your failure to transclude your GAR to the talk page or to leave a courtesy note on WT:OLY might be the reasons no-one showed up to try and fix things. I've now done both on your behalf - Basement12 (T.C) 16:04, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- There is no obligation to transclude the GA reassessment, so that is not a failure on Lauras part. The olympic wikiproject should have been notified though, which is partly my fault as I was asked to help with notifying[1] but never got around to it. AIRcorn (talk) 22:36, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Mentor, I have a question
[edit]Hello, remember me? You volunteered to mentor me about the GA process. Well, I recently did alot of work on article, and would like not only a quick little scan/review, but possibly something else. You said you would be willing to nominate an article for GA, and that I could make all the changes the reviewer requests, just not sign my changes on the review page. Well, I would appreciate it if you would do that for this article. Thanks, Oakley77 (talk) 16:40, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've pretty much spelled out the conditions of mentorship and offered a few articles with rather clear directions on how to fix them. You did one or two small things on one of them, but not to the extent where it is ready for nomination. If you're serious about wanting to learn about GAN and wanting me to mentor you, I'd like to see work on these with the mini-peer reviews done for you explaining what needs to be done for the articles. Doing this would indicate to me a committment to and willingness to do work required for GANs more in your interest area. Beyond that, the things I've spelled out generally specifically speak to GAN criteria. (In this case things like WP:SUMMARY for the lead, broad in coverage, etc.) Sticking non-club information into a section on club play made me scratch my head as it didn't make sense why that was there, especially when one look at the sources said she played club water polo. --LauraHale (talk) 21:14, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Chongqing is not ready for a GAN nomination. The article has many unsourced statements. There are a lot of short, choppy paragraphs. The citations are not consistently formatted. There are images and quotes and text boxes that appear random, with no context or real explanation as to why they are in the article other than "PRETTY!" There are a few statements like "The politics of Chongqing is structured in a dual party-government system like all other governing institutions in the People's Republic of China." which need elaboration, either through judicious use of interwiki linking or expansion of the text. (Because the statement itself indicates that information is out there which can tell me that. It isn't a case of the media doesn't report on it so no sources are available.) There may need to be better list incorporation. The amount of work required to bring this to GAN would probably be at least 5 to 10 hours in terms of completely sourcing it, fixing the short, choppy sentences and dealing with the image/table/list/quotation box problem. --LauraHale (talk) 21:14, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I really wanted to work on a city article specifically in China, but anywhere is fine. it is something that greatly interests me. I would appreceate if you would help me get a city article to GAN status, then our review system would kick into gear. Oakley77 (talk) 02:04, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- If you want to find a Chinese city to take to good status, look at the following examples: Chadderton, Altrincham, Ashton-under-Lyne, Birchington-on-Sea, Canberra. What do these four articles have in common that make them amongst the best content on Wikipedia? If you really want to take a Chinese city to GAN and you want my assistance, explain to me the GAN criteria and how those five articles meet them GAN criteria or do not meet the GAN criteria. We can't move forward and towards you becoming involved with GAN unless you can do that. As a general hint, the reason the football articles for men's national teams were dinged down from Bs to Cs based almost exclusively on one of those GAN criteria. Can you explain what criteria that was? --LauraHale (talk) 02:41, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- 1. All three of these articles are astoundingly flowing and clear to read, as well as being grammatically sound.
- 2. All copyright laws seem to be respected.
- 3. The MoS is followed virtually impeccably.
- 4. All the articles have more than enough references relating to their size and importance.
- 5. Inline citations are everywhere there is a statement made needing a source or fact-check. (Although more citations doesn't necessarily hurt!)
- 6. None of the research is original, bar commonplace stuff like Canberra is the capital of Australia, Altrincham is in the UK, etc.
- 7. All main topics are addressed, and the articles really don't stray to far off the path, so to speak.
- 8. No bias is hinted towards in the articles.
- 9. No edit wars or disputes appear in the histories, there were some undoings of edits, but no true disputes.
- 10. Although I couldn't check all the images, I selected a random bunch and they all were free-use images or had fair-use statements. I do understand that in the GA process however, all images will be checked.
- 11. Images are all relevant to the topic, and have explanatory captions.
- This is all the criteria I know of needed for a GA article, and something all the shown articles exemplify. Oakley77 (talk) 15:46, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes I'm a One Direction fan, well it all started in October 2011 when i stumbled on an article on Billboard.com which featured One Direction which i obviously then never heard of I looked a the picture of them and "the asian" of the group (Zayn Malik) amazing skin and impeccable bone structure instantly had me a standstill, so next thing i did was listen to just then UK released single "What Makes You Beautiful" i became utterly obessed with it played for two days straight before my siblings eventually started objecting, the following thing i did was visit their wikipedia page to get me so more info on this "One Direction" which I was progressively started to like, as I continued to watch their X Factor performances and interviews i fell in love with all of them, their personalities were amazing, funny, just themselves, and as i watched their live videos and acoustic, acapella performances (on Youtube) i realized they can all sing i had previously only taught Liam Payne and Harry Styles could sing. Love rant over.....
- Why do you maintain the One Direction page on Wikipedia?
About Wikipedia, it officially started in November 2011 as i was trolling 1D's sub articles - i was distinctly on their One Direction discography page at it frustrated me that a certain chart wasn't added so pressed the edit button for the first time and the rest is history. I eventually made an account because i wanted to be able to edit 1D's main article and trace my edits, and have never looked back :D. I love editing wikipedia. You will find 90% of edits on One Direction related articles. I maintain the article because they make me really happy and I felt that the page needed to be improved. The page in November 2011, when i first visited it as you can see it has drastically improved with my edits over 800 to date.
- Have you been blocked for editing the article? Or been involved in any major editing disputes on the article?
Never with their articles just only with the AFD's surrounding the members individual pages - the second time I launched the members individual pages, I got blocked because during the AFD dicussion i used 3 different accounts in one discussion so i would have more votes. I was blocked for two days.
- What are the challenges in maintaining the page?
I guess finding the time to, as I am a teenager and attend the second highest level of academic system in my country, I have regular tests and projects, so finding the time and not let it affect my academic performance. Another challenge is probably that I'm the only regular editor of their page. Wikipedia editors are not so active on boy band articles; take a look at the main article of The Wanted, JLS, Big Time Rush (band), Hot Chelle Rae, their all hideous; no images, bad coverage, various typos and their sub articles are all stubs if it wasn't for me One Direction related articles would be the same.
- Were do you go to look for sources to use in the article? Are there any sources you know that are unreliable that you avoid or remove when others add them?
I'm open to all sources except the you tube, Facebook, twitter, fan websites, tumbler.
- Has anyone tried to nominate the article for deletion? How do you handle that?
Never a One Direction article, with the individual pages for the Members (which have been deleted twice), You try to argument the best you can and hope that it stays, which isn't quite easy ass editors are not so fond of the band. Once i cited an example (to a administrator) that the Coldplay members (except for Chris Martin) have not done anything outside the band and they have individual articles since 2007 and he/she didn't do anything about it while deleting a 1D member individual article, i think because Coldplay are more respected in editors eyes and they grant it them despite it violating the guidelines.
- Do you get crap on Wikipedia because of the article you maintain? Do you feel respected as an editor for maintaining an article about a "boy band"? Do people comment on your taste in music?
Editors have never comment on my taste of music to date. I have taken quite some crap from editors specifically in AFD discussions attacking me personally, I don't want to elaborate further. With the hole boy band thing, I don't care if editors don't respect me if i'm prominent editor of 1D articles, why should I like them, they make me happy, I now I'm never going to meet them or have a relationship with one of them, I just appreciate them.
- How involved were you in the Good Article preparation? What were specific challenges getting the article ready to nominate?
With the GA; ever since someone told me that I could bring the article to Featured Article status, I deepened myself into the hole process, of bringing the article to higher status. So after of improving based on GA criteria, I felt the article was ready.
- Do you think articles like One Direction and Justin Bieber are good types of articles to get more female involvement on Wikipedia? Do you think women should be encouraged to edit articles about popular culture topics because the topic is more likely to interest them?
Sure, you can really see the majority of Wikipedia is run by men, as articles about male recording artist/ current boy bands/ Female TV shows are often neglected.
- What do people in your off Wikipedia life think of your Wikipedia work?
My family thinks are fine with it although they discourage me to not spend so much time on it. My friends think it weird, so i never talk about with them.
- Have you been to any Wikipedia meetups and conferences? If yes, did you enjoy them? If not, why not?
Never, due to my location.
- Any other background information you want to provide on your editing or life?
I'm a teenager currently on vacation after a hard year of learning :). In the summer of 2013 I will move abroad to study at the University. English is my third language so excuse if I made so spelling or grammar mistakes.

[edit]...for the kitten it is much appreciated. I have a favour to ask, can you try this, http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/publications/reports-and-statistics/movements-at-australian-airports/ and see if it works for you. It did for me about 14 hours ago but now I get nothing and I'm trying to update Avalon Airport. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 11:21, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yep it was supposed to be a set of links to PDF files. It must not like foreigners today, or just my IP address. I'll try later when I go home. In truth I don't know much about Australian airports. I basically update the infobox and any statistics I see along with fixing disambiguation links. Olympic Dam does have scheduled flights. Thanks again. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 11:46, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
GAN Criteria Question
[edit]You asked me this question:
And so I answered it:

Edit warring notice
[edit] You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on User talk:Hawkeye7. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:17, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Allan Graf
[edit]Thanks for reviewing my nomination for DYK at Template:Did you know nominations/Allan Graf. I've removed all references to IMDB and eliminated any facts which I learned by reading the linked pages. In my view, the page and hook stand solidly on the references currently applied. The hook itself draws from just two citations, one covering the sports history and one covering the movie career. I'd appreciate your giving my comments and the page a second look at your convenience. Because American football season is two months away, I see no reason why there's a rush in DYK placement; IMHO this hook might better serve the pedia in August after the Olympics, with NCAA football season approaching. Just my suggestion. Thanks again for helping. BusterD (talk) 14:45, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

I've finished the two other articles, and it should be just about good enough (maybe except my grammar). There are a couple of things I want to explain to you: Ref #2 in Egil Fjetland, and Ref #3 in Jan Fjetland (same ref), doesn't really mention any of them but I wanted to source that Vidar have never been as good as between 1983 and 1987, the time both were playing there. Additionally Ref #6 in Jan Fjetland was a dead link, and I couldn't find a proper archived version, but I found a readable version through google so that the info is verifiable, but it looks like a mess. Where do you want your Olympian DYKs?
[edit]Laura, I was preparing to move recently passed DYKs on Olympic topics to the special holding area, but I realized as I found them that yours don't say whether you want them to be moved there so they run during the games, or if you want them to run normally. Do you have a preference?
Miyagawa has been specifying which ones should be moved; there are two I've just moved. Basement12, on the other hand, says "Can be used", so I'm not sure whether to move the three of them; if I don't, they're likely to get snapped up by the end of the week. Thoughts as to whether we'll need them for the Olympics? As of a few minutes ago, you had eight that have been approved, five of which are from June 9 and two from June 5. If they should be moved, I can move them, or you can do it yourself if you'd rather. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:44, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Anna Green Winslow
[edit]Hi! It took me a little while, but I think I have the article on Anna Green Winslow up to snuff for you. I know you thought the article might be on the diary, but isn't she kind of like Samuel Pepys in that he's really only known for his diary? (Yes, I know Pepys was an M.P., but it's the diary that comes to mind.)
Please let me know if you need me to recast it as an article on the diary. I'll need a bit of assistance, too, as I don't really know how to create a redirect page.
Lastly, I used the Project Gutenberg version, which contains page numbers from the 1894 publication, for the Winslow citations. Any suggestions on how I should clarify that further if that is still troublesome?

We had a problem with that nominating duo before, where PHLai was nominating a lot of his, and he was then taking credit for them at Wikicup. When asked to do QPQs for her many nominations, she said a while back that she doesn't have the time to do them because it would take away from other valuable Wikipedia work. (I really think there should be some rule modification that says any DYK that counts towards Wikicup requires 2 QPQs.) In any case, going to get one article to DYK before lunch, then lunch, home and will tackle the three others if I can (re: Last one). --LauraHale (talk) 02:46, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, the horse one can sit. I can understand your disinclination to touch it under the circumstances; it's especially brazen given the nomination immediately above it. However, I have a surprise for you...:
Yes, Muboshgu expanded it enough to make 5x. (Don't know why DYKcheck doesn't quite agree, but after I said 9305, and it's now at 9450(!), as far as I'm concerned it's 5x.) BlueMoonset (talk) 04:24, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've responded two what I think needs responding. :( I'm not sure I want to wade into the morass that is that one article about Pakistan. --LauraHale (talk) 05:20, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
- Both Gilbraltars on July 5 are ready for a revisit. I've also done something to Barbeque Nation on that same date which needs a look as well. I can understand why you wouldn't want to hit the Pakistan one, but it does need attention and at this point I'm no longer a disinterested party. If you definitely don't want to wade, maybe I should ping Orlady, since I did promise an independent/unaffiliated review in short order. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:25, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
- Will try to get to the Gilbraltars later today. (I have a meeting in 90 minutes and I want to get two more DYKs done.) I've requested second opinions on a few because the promotional aspects bothered me. Will look at Barbecue Nation but if it was the "have it at your plate thing" not going to get tick from me. If Orlay doesn't get it the Pakistan one later today, I'll try to get it done. My major fear is I'll do the review and then systematic problems will again be founded. --LauraHale (talk) 03:29, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
- Barbecue Nation was more about future plans, but I reverted to the "grill at each table" because it's their gimmick and it sounds really strange to me to go out to a restaurant only to have to cook the meal yourself. (I think you do a little grilling if you want, plus there's a buffet for the bulk of it, but I wasn't exactly clear on how it worked, and only interested in reading sources to the point where I understood enough to recast the hooks.) Mea culpa in that I didn't make a request on Orlady's page until several hours ago, so I don't know how soon she'll see it. I could always try Crisco next if she says no. I always dread that Nikkimaria's going to find a problem with one of my reviews or promotions. (It wasn't Nikkimaria today, but the photo of the phorminx in queue 4 is being challenged. Oh well.) Thanks for the amazing work you're doing on the articles and the reviews: it takes me way too long with both. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:27, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
- Nation is not one I will ever be comfortable passing at this point I don't think. Ditto the wineries one. : / Completely understand your fear about passing/moving hooks that then turn out to have issues that I didn't pick up. Hence, I feel more likely to ping them for problems than I might otherwise. --LauraHale (talk) 08:46, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
- Someone else will have to do those two, then. I've given up on Mazatlan, myself: I don't know whether you want to give it another look. In the ping department, I think the two Gibraltars ought to be safe, though, when you're able to get back to them. I'm done for the night. Need sleep! BlueMoonset (talk) 06:36, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Just read the JB AfD, couldnt believe how it ended. I hope you don't get discouraged, you presented your case very well. In a venue where participants are half decent at perceiving the substantive balance of a discussion, you would have swayed things your way. I hope you find other places to publicise your good work; social media is a massively important topic for sociologists, political science, and even for corporate strategists.
FeydHuxtable (talk) 12:02, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- You're welcome, that's good to hear and I think its a wise approach. I also try to restrict myself to mostly working only on topics where my views match what the community seems to consider respectable and mainstream. Makes for a more peaceful editing experience. FeydHuxtable (talk) 12:43, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- True. At least Fram has kindly restored the history to the redirect, so tech savvy academics and fans can view your original work. And in a few years, by which time elite editors will hopefully have caught up with the 21th century and be able to appreaciate social media topics, a non admin will be able to retore the article to its former glory :-). [edit]I'm a bit surprised that you passed Template:Did you know nominations/He Bowls To The Left. I think it's so inappropriate that I've AFD'd it. Not everything that The Daily Tele writes about is notable. The-Pope (talk) 16:48, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
- Which criteria did it fail DYK rules under? The hook as a BLP violation is the best one I could possibly see. And if you AfDed it, that's fine. I've nominated stuff for AfD that I've seen at DYK myself where notability wasn't clear but didn't quite see it in this article as obvious problem when nominated given sources used. --LauraHale (talk) 19:55, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Louise Bawden
[edit]On 15 July 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Louise Bawden, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that 2012 Australian Olympic beach volleyball player Louise Bawden also represented Australia in indoor volleyball at the 2000 Summer Olympics? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Louise Bawden. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

[edit]Hello, I want to nominate the One Direction article (its now WP:GA) for the main page how do i go about this thoughts? AdabowtheSecond (talk) 15:06, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

- Thank you and do you think it has chance? AdabowtheSecond (talk) 00:45, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

- Unless 1D has been expanded in the past 5 days to be five times longer than it was, then not eligible for DYK. You can get mentions of 1D through featured picture if you can find one. Other options are to write Wikinews stories and get mentioned there, or get it to appear as a DYK on simple:One Direction but not manyy options for English Wikipedia. --LauraHale (talk) 02:36, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

- So you're just leaving me with unfinished nominations? Aaron • You Da One 10:45, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- As I have been told many times, anyone can take up a review but since you want the reviews from me tonight, while I'm trying to get some things done before going away for five days/three nights, yes, I'm leaving you with unfinished nominations that will have to wait for another reviewer to finish them. - Well it would have been nice to be notified. Aaron • You Da One 11:15, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- I lost a DYK because I didn't have a review done in a timely manner. I've also been repeatedly told the original reviewer is under ZERO obligation to finish a review when there were issues. That I repeatedly followed up on your review when you wanted to argue and argue about your hook accuracy was beyond what is really required. You nominated several DYKs that were clearly not ready. A lot of DYK works on developing a reputation for doing good reviews, for repeatedly submitting articles that do not have issues, for participating in DYK related discussions. You do not build good will when... well, you're doing what you're doing. I do NOT have to revisit your review. I do not need to notify you that I wasn't going to do it. I'm really not going to spend the time on some one who doesn't appreciate how much work I've already done for them. --LauraHale (talk) 11:21, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well tbh you took an exasperated stance toward me when I said I didn't know how to set up that checker, and someone else explained instead. I know you're not obligated to tell me that you want to abandon a review, but it would have been helpful just to leave a note saying "I'm going on holiday, you need to find someone else to do it." That would be good will. I never said I don't appreciate you reviewing my DYK's, at the same time, I've also reviewed yours. I won't reply to any further comment and I won't see it as I don't have you watch listed. Have a nice trip. Aaron • You Da One 11:42, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not going on holiday. Why did you think I was going on holiday? It would be nice if you had 1) read the nomination criteria and made sure did everything as right as possible especially after the first time, 2) fixed things when brought up rather than argue about how it isn't true, 3) decided to pay for me to go on holiday that you've mentioned I'm going on, 4) realised that this sort of behavior that you're continuing to engage in will make it more difficult for your DYKs going forward. --LauraHale (talk) 11:55, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

DYK needing checks
[edit]Hi Laura, If you have time, could you please review Template:Did you know nominations/McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in Australian service? I think that it should be pretty straightforward, but of course let me know if you spot any problems. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 10:25, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi Laura: Did you actually want this one saved to run during the Paralympics? I was about to take it out of Prep 4 based on the posting at WT:DYK but thought I'd better check with you first. Yngvadottir (talk) 15:46, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Greetings My article is 7 days old at the moment. It is brand new and fresh. I missed the 5 days deadline for it to be "DYK". May I still get the opportunity to nominate it as DYK? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guptakhy (talk • contribs) 19:18, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Will happen soon enough. :) (In the mean time, I do Wikipedia and Wikinews stuff about Paralympians and female Olympians.) --LauraHale (talk) 08:22, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Gibraltar hooks?
[edit]Laura, I don't think you ever got back to those two Gibraltar DYK hooks under July 5, which were initial reviews by you and the most recent issues you brought up are said to have been addressed. Just a quick ping, since I noticed them waiting for a response. (Found one of my own tonight unaddressed for over a week, and just waiting for a tick. Oops.) DYK reviews
[edit]Laura, I'm finally back, and going through some older DYKs, tagging for new reviewers and the like. I found the following which you had been reviewing:
If I find any others, I'll let you know. Thanks for taking care of those Gibraltars! —BlueMoonset (talk) 05:23, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for notifying me on this one. This is another one of those cases where things have gone south with the nominator. (Check my talk page archives.) I'll post a request for a second opinion. --LauraHale (talk) 05:25, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- That looked pretty toxic; I don't blame you for bowing out.
- Can I ask you to take another look at Barbecue Nation? I've fixed a couple of your problems with the article, and would be happy for you to adjust the third phrase in the article to suit your taste. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:08, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

100 DYK Nominations
[edit]The 100 DYK Nomination Medal | ||
Congratulations on having over 100 DYK nominations! What a fabulous effort! Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:05, 6 July 2012 (UTC) |
Slow down, damnit! You're making the rest of us look bad!err.. Congratulations! Resolute 01:25, 7 July 2012 (UTC)- According to Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of DYKs, Laura has now also past 200. Bloody marvellous. John Vandenberg (chat) 06:43, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- With a little assistance at User:LauraHale/Paralympians, I can probably cross the 300 line. :) I've started prepping 68 of them. (Working on adding information to the Athletics articles today.) The more help I can get, the easier it will be. The major hurdle there won't actually be writing but having the QPQ to nominate them all and the time to move them over. --LauraHale (talk) 06:52, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hence the loads and loads of reviews. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:11, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- Bingo. :D I need them to just keep up with my Olympians and then I will really need them for the Paralympians. If I do a peel off for the multihooked ones, I might be able to just squeeze out the Paralympians with out doing any more... but still PITA. Goal is to find at least one source per athletics competitor tonight, then do some more reviewing... Going to shoot for at least another 5. Mild fear that none of the HOPAU participants will help with the DYKs and I'll be doing all the writing on my own. (By the way, we'll need a special Paralympic prep area when I go for that.) --LauraHale (talk) 07:14, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- Ah yes. I could do that for Indonesia's independence day (I could make three preps, actually) but they'd flip. Sudirman, Albertus Soegijapranata, and Gebyar-Gebyar will be enough (btw, Hawkeye'd love learning about Sudirman) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:39, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've heard a rumor there is a crisco hook in every DYK prep area. :D We'll see the level of flipping that goes on. :) Finished writing goal for the day so DYK reviewing time starts again. ;) --LauraHale (talk) 08:45, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw that. Since they are really different aspects of the country, I doubt there'd be any controversy. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:49, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've been a bit surprised that there hasn't been any complaints about the number of Australian sportpeople. They complain about the USA and UK based hooks often enough. --LauraHale (talk) 08:57, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- I guess it's a Brit-American war. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:16, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- It allows the rest of the world to just get on with editing the Pedia. ;) I keep watching the main page talk page looking to see if it will happen. I was hoping others would help overwhelm the sheer number of DYKs about Aussie Olympians I've been running. (People moving to the prep area may want to consider pre-loading some to prevent this as jamming is going to happen.) --LauraHale (talk) 09:19, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- We may just have to boost the number of hooks available, or some can be put up before the Olympics as interest will be building then any way. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:32, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- As a non-fussy person, I don't have a preference. :) If it is easier to run them early, then mine can go early. It MIGHT be easier to up the hooks from 7 to 8 and plan for two Olympic hooks per set. (It would be nice to try to get some of the scheduling planned in advance though as it relates to competition.) --LauraHale (talk) 09:34, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello LauraHale, I have expanded the article. Can you please check if it meets the 700 word requirement. Thanks. Till I Go Home 12:04, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Laura, I'm sorry, but I had to pull this from a prep area due to significant prose issues, especially in the third Diving paragraph. The explanation is in the template, and I hope you can get them cleared up in short order so it can go back into a prep area in a matter of hours. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:08, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Please let me know if the revised third paragraph I just posted works for you. I omitted the 2012 Australian Diving Championship because of the discrepancy between sources: ABC seems to place Bugg alone as fifth and the Bugg/Wiggins pair as first, while Diving Australia lists second place finishes in both events. You do cite the ABC sources for these, but the disagreement between your primary source and this one left me unwilling to mention placement, especially as a fifth place is not so notable under the circumstances in a national competition given a fourth place international finish in Rostock. I also left out the 22nd place finish for notability reasons. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:19, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- What notability reasons? If I was determined to take it to GA, this information would be stuff that people wanted and it would be viewed as kind of fanboyism to only post her best results. Whatever though. If you can now give it the green tick to go, that would be appreciated as I addressed your concerns. --LauraHale (talk) 02:21, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- PS: TonytheTiger has revised his Tora Harris article to say four championships rather than six; if that was the only outstanding issue, it may be ready for your approval. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:20, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Re:DYK nomination review request
[edit]No worries, I think with the Games now started I'm going to get a second wind on DYK's!
I thought of you on Thursday as I live in London and a colleague said he spent an underground journey talking to the Australian kayak team as they were heading back to the Olympic village - my immediate thought was "argh! you could have taken some photos!".
Speaking of which, I'm going to a couple of events and was hoping to take some shots for Wiki, but read the interview on the signpost. Do you know if we are allowed to use photos taken at the Games or not? It seems a bit odd as I know we've got photos from Beijing on multiple articles and loads of images from British sporting events (heck, I uploaded some from Wimbledon earlier in the year). Would be nice to know as I'm off to the beach volleyball on Tuesday (sadly missing the British team as our tickets are for the later session, so won't be able to add images to the articles I created for them), but the big one is that I have tickets for the final session of the swimming with the two major relays - so I was hoping to go a bit trigger happy there. Prep 2
[edit]There were no Olympic hooks left for July 30 so I put three of your para hooks into Prep 2 just now. Two had no save request and one had one but with a ? at the end. I hope this is okay, if not I or someone else can undo. PumpkinSky talk 13:32, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Ask for help regarding the Jade Bailey (footballer) article from the DYK reviewer. Well, it's worth a try...
[edit]I am the creator of the article Jade Bailey (footballer) and you reviewed the DYK. But I also note that you have written women's sports articles in your own right. So I came here hoping to ask for help in expanding it because you presumably know what you're doing. I don't know enough about footballers to do a good article here. I need 1500 characters to get it past http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Jade_Bailey_(footballer) . Would you care to help? Failing that, could you point out somebody who can? Regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 12:56, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

PS: Your hook for Melissa Breen, first in the Olympics section, has gotten a ? from Orlady. I imagine it will be a fairly easy fix, but the sooner it's done, the sooner it can go into a prep area. I don't know whether she's actually competing on August 2, but the just-opened and only empty prep area will run early on the 3rd in Australia. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:07, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
