Hello Ss112, since you're performing a major edit on the above mentioned article, I was thinking it would be great if the lead was sourced out so that the article can be nominated for GA standard. dxneo (talk) 15:33, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Dxneo: The lead of articles is a summary of the body. It doesn't need sourcing per WP:CITELEAD. That being said, I'm not interested in making it GA-standard or GA articles in general. If Cybertrip wants to, that's up to them. I just disagreed with the citation param order being changed. Ss112 15:41, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here We Go Again Tour

[edit]

Do you happen to know of a source that has the money gross and the attendance numbers for the last 3 shows of Cher’s Here We Go Again Tour? Cherfan 15!! (talk) 01:13, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Prince Discography revert

[edit]

I honestly didn't know how far they went with their Prince edits until a few minutes ago. I feel any conversation about it with them would just be frustrating so thanks again for what you did.

(still can't make a Princevault account by the way.) Great Mercian (talk) 18:53, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Great Mercian: Could you add a comment below my thread on Djaymiller's talk page saying that you don't agree with reclassifying the studio albums? I only just noticed your earlier thread on their talk page about the template change. It would help them maybe see, if they come online and see a revert and a rather large thread, that I'm not the only one who disagrees. Ss112 19:04, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was writing that as you sent! Great Mercian (talk) 19:06, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Great Mercian: Thanks for that. Did you see their edits to Prince singles discography? I just spent some time undoing those. Including B-sides in the main singles chronology and linking several dozen redirects... Ss112 20:24, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't, I haven't really been doing much and until a few hours ago I only knew about the edit to the album template. Great Mercian (talk) 21:15, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for cleaning up Ben Rector! I do plan on getting around to cleaning up the mess I made with that split, especially with sourcing, but these recent days have been nonstop busy for me. Panini! 🥪 05:49, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Heads up though, the cutting of that content resulted in a citation error somewhere. By nonstop busy I mean I have to hit the hay and get up in 5 hours, so could you check that out for me? Panini! 🥪 05:51, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And who are you to decide that Canada and my work are not worthy? AMCKen (talk) 19:54, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AMCKen: WP:V. You didn't provide citations on the article for those chart positions (the fact that they may be sourced—if the chart links even all still work, as I note Canada's RPM chart database is moving yet again—on the individual song articles is not considered sufficient), and there are already the recommended maximum of 10 chart columns. More than 10 chart columns overloads tables according to editor consensus. I explained this in my edit summary. I also asked you close to three years ago to provide citations for Canadian chart information (User talk:AMCKen#Sources for Canadian chart information), and yet you're still adding unsourced chart positions. It appears another music editor has also warned you for adding unsourced information more recently (User talk:AMCKen#April 2022). Ss112 22:10, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I put the cites on the individual songs so as not to clutter up the table, and said so. Only those songs that don't have an article to themselves get the cite in the table, as I have done numerous times before. AMCKen (talk) 22:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AMCKen: You can use more than one cite template in a ref tag. This is very common on discographies with websites that have different URLs for each song or album that charted. It doesn't matter that you've gotten away with adding unsourced information on other articles, that has nothing to do with this one. It simply would not clutter up the table if you listed them all under one citation. Sorry, but this is not the place to come and complain that I reverted you for adding unsourced information. Ss112 23:03, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So why not dump the USA chart rankings? She had rather more hits in Canada than the USA. AMCKen (talk) 04:08, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Review Request

Good day @Ss112, Please I would really appreciate it if you help me on a review of "Draft:Not An Angel". Regards. TheChineseGroundnut (talk) 12:11, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TheChineseGroundnut: I've approved it and moved it into mainspace, because I personally think it's notable. That being said, the a in "an" should be lowercase per MOS:CT, so that's where I've moved it. Ss112 13:33, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, great. Thank you for everything. I really appreciate. Have a great day! TheChineseGroundnut (talk) 14:03, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you. But can you check this one out, "Draft:The Next Star Awards" it's my last pending draft for now. Thank you. TheChineseGroundnut (talk) 17:38, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheChineseGroundnut: I'm not very familiar with that. You might just have to wait for a review of it. In future, you can just create these articles in mainspace if you believe them to be notable. Ss112 17:42, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Thanks for the heads up. You're more of a mentor, I appreciate. TheChineseGroundnut (talk) 17:46, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation

[edit]

Hi, Ss112! I just wanted to thank you for the information you provided in your edit summary for The Sound of Love (song) regarding DAB pages. Given that the page was previously a redirect to the Ibifornia album, I thought it would be best to have a DAB page indicating that the 'The Sound of Love (song)' could refer to either. I didn't consider the fact that there may need to be a The Sound of Love (disambiguation) page. Thanks! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 02:38, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Thanks for your edits on this page. I don't know if you have time or chance, but would you consider doing a little read/copy edit on the intro? I also don't know if you have any experience with movie pages, but I'm thinking its about time that a page was made for the movie portion?

What do you think? >> Lil-unique1 (talk)14:19, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lil-unique1: I think the lead is fine; what I did when I edited it earlier as is as much as I felt needed to be done to it, honestly. As for the film, it probably should have a separate article as it's getting reviews. Ss112 18:02, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks buddy. I'll think about how best to split it out. >> Lil-unique1 (talk)21:31, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good afternoon, @Ss112.

I notice that you left me messages in the discussion and have edited the article mentioned in the title of this message. Far from being angry, the truth is I thank you a lot for helping me. In fact, I apologize for any misunderstandings. Regarding the release of the single, I had no idea about that; For this reason, I have reverted your edit. Seriously, I'm sorry, I feel really bad right now. Also a thousand apologies for the transfer; I did not know that the movement I made also corresponds exclusively to an administrator; Seriously, what a shame. Believe me, I didn't want to do this because of a lack of history or bad faith, I'm just trying to do the right thing because I want to improve the article for GA.

Many thanks for everything. Santi (talk) 18:38, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ss112: I already completed the article. Do you think it's ready for GAN yet? Just answer yes or no, because any observations must be made in the peer review that I have opened. I ask to know if it is appropriate to close the review or wait. Santi (talk) 22:02, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pollosito: Yes, looks fine to me. In future, please reply on your talk page, as that's where I opened a thread concerning this article first. It's best not to split conversations between two talk pages. Ss112 22:05, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Visions

[edit]

Hi, hope all is well. I had a quick question regarding the Japanese charts you added on Visions. Wouldn't the "Japanese Digital Albums" be a component to the "Japanese Albums" chart per WP:CHARTMATH? I wasn't sure if it’s only for Billboard charts as that's all that’s listed as examples. I originally removed the digital album chart until realizing that you had added it — but then quickly reverted it and reached out to you and ask. Pillowdelight (talk) 20:35, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Pillowdelight: No, the main Japanese chart published by Oricon as linked to in the album chart template is physical sales only. They have a combined chart that is published a few days later, but Oricon for some intents and purposes still considers the physical chart its main chart as Japan, unlike the majority of the rest of the world, is still a physical sales-dominated market. Ss112 23:23, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhh okay, gotcha. Never knew that. Pillowdelight (talk) 23:32, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Torch song

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you removed "torch song" from We Can't Be Friends (Wait For Your Love). Since the song is a song about heartbreak and longing, shouldn't that warrant the inclusion of the "torch song" tag since torch songs revolved around the theme of longing, lost love and unrequited love? 2403:5801:98D4:0:CC8:4344:4F0A:80CF (talk) 05:48, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@2403:5801:98D4:0:CC8:4344:4F0A:80CF: No. It should be described on the article as a "torch song" by a critic, not based on a user's interpretation of the lyrics. Ss112 06:06, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok well there are so many songs there listed as torch songs without a single source. I've noticed Work From Home by Fifth Harmony is labelled as a torch song and nobody's done anything about that, same with The Joker and the Queen. 2403:5801:98D4:0:CC8:4344:4F0A:80CF (talk) 07:56, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@2403:5801:98D4:0:CC8:4344:4F0A:80CF: Then feel free to remove the category from those articles too for the label being unsourced. Ss112 12:47, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

UK Vinyl Chart etc

[edit]

Hi. That's fine! I will remember that for when R&B/Hip Hop charts and Dance charts are added to the chart box even though the album has charted on the main chart! That's right, right?? -_- :/ Thurlow0391 (talk) 16:26, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Thurlow0391: Genre charts are fine; component charts like physical sales, including vinyl sales, and digital consumption (streaming and downloads) should not be added when an album has charted on the main chart of a country per WP:CHARTMATH because those main charts take physical and digital consumption into account already. Discographies

[edit]

With regard to piri's article, do any of the following belong in discography sections (and where in policy does it say that):

  1. Unreleased/live-exclusive records confirmed to exist by RS, such as piri & tommy's "see saw"[1]
  2. Unofficial releases, such as their Soundcloud-exclusive "mood swing"[2]
  3. Writing credits, such as Illit's "Magnetic" (from Super Real Me, and on which she provides an uncredited spoken word introduction)
  4. Combinations of the above, such as salute's "luv stuck"[3].

Also, that article is at peer review because I'm trying to get it to FA, so if you have any further comments I'm all ears.--Launchballer 16:50, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Launchballer: None of this is prohibited per policy, but Wikipedia:WikiProject Discographies/style—a proposed guideline that didn't get passed, but is still widely followed to this day nonetheless—has some of what you're talking about under Wikipedia:WikiProject Discographies/style#What should not be included. Ss112 22:41, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that covers everything except writing credits. Should "Magnetic" be mentioned in her article?--Launchballer 09:54, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ever been told you're the Best?

[edit]

Hello Ss112, firstly I want to thank you for all the contributions you're doing on music side on the encyclopedia, none can compare. With that being said, I'm back citing this discussion, GA nom requires non-article creator to have extensively contributed to the article before they can nominate for it GA and I am not sure if I qualify or not, so as the creator of "Water" I was wondering if you've changed your mind. I was also thinking of nominating Tyla after its hype.

Another thing, I was wondering if you could teach me how to follow charts peak/data and certifications like how you do please. Truly, you're amazing. I'll be on the lookout for your response. dxneo (talk) 19:10, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dxneo: Thanks for the compliments but I really don't think I contribute anything that special that nobody else can. I have never had the view that anybody here is irreplaceable or anything like that. As for "Water", if you mean have I changed my mind about wanting to nominate it for GA—no, I'm not the sort of editor who pursues GA/FA and I never will be. You'd have more luck asking Cybertrip, as they contributed most of the content, if they want to nominate it for GA. I merely created it and added half the charts. I'm not a big contributor of certification data. As for charts, I'm not sure if I can "teach" someone how to follow them. Obviously it's about knowing when they update, but even then, if you do want to add charts, I always try to tell editors: find a chart nobody else regularly adds. There are plenty out there. Even still, different editors have different things they're adept at doing. Ss112 16:27, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response, I thought you had some sort of special way of finding the charts in one place, I'll try to follow the charts also as I noticed the Nigerian TurnTable charts are also missing on the Tyla album. Cybertrip, do you mind bro? The GA? dxneo (talk) 17:32, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and alternatively you can give me the green light and I'll gladly do the honors 🙏 dxneo (talk) 18:06, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Love in Constant Spectacle

[edit]

Hello there! I was going through the albums list to do my usual credit additions and saw the {{in use}} template at the top of Love in Constant Spectacle, but it looks like you haven't edited it for about six hours. No worries at all if you're still going in on a big edit, but could you give me a heads up when you're finished so I can add those credits in?

I always write them out in an external notepad so it doesn't get eaten if any of my stuff crashes or I close a page accidentally, so I can add it in whenever. Just don't want to cause you to lose any work! Sock (tock talk) 18:10, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

livelikemusic (TALK!) 16:27, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Livelikemusic: I agree that the persistence in readding the stylisation notes is annoying, but from what I see it's not just Swift's fans at it. It's just much too rampant in pop music on this website. Editors see the notes in one place and think they need to be put everywhere else. Any lower-case or upper-case lettering anywhere—cover artwork, in press releases, on streaming websites—is apparently worthy of note to some people even when it's reduced to just one parenthetical note and they know we can't mimic it elsewhere. Ss112 03:41, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is absolutely baffling to me to see this kind of edit—amongst others—not being taken seriously enough. And it is giving major WP:OWN to me. livelikemusic (TALK!) 17:17, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AskeeaeWiki: Perhaps, but as you and I know, editors love to say "that's an essay not a guideline or policy" when they disagree with it, so I'm not sure how much it would change. Editors have sought opinions at MOS talk pages before; I usually cite Special:Permalink/1088443179#MOS:TMSTYLE. Ss112 23:38, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be able to help revert the vandalism done a couple days ago to Jimmie Allen's page? Idk how to do that rollback thing that I've seen other users do. [4] CloversMallRat (talk) 02:34, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @CloversMallRat Which edits are you concerned with? -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:37, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All of the ones made by Factcheckworld212 on May 17th. He wiped the entirety of Jimmie Allen's sexual assault allegations, claiming it as false information despite it all being properly sourced and highly relevant. CloversMallRat (talk) 02:42, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CloversMallRat I've reverted all of their edits and page blocked the user from that page and the related discography page. Apologies to @Ss112 for jumping in on this but vandalism is something that should be handled as expeditiously as possible. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:47, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Post Human: Nex Gen

[edit]

Thank you for the fix you made with this edit. I'd been building out the credits on an external notes app for awhile and completely missed that the small text had been removed in the interim. Total oversight on my part, so I appreciate the catch!

I also appreciate the refresher for WP:ACCESS. I could've sworn small text wasn't preferred in article text, but I've also been reluctant to change credit styles since I tend to get reverted when I do. Good looking out all around! Sock (tock talk) 12:45, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chart data

[edit]

Hey, I see a lot of songs have charted on this Romanian charts' Kiss Top 40 and Top 40 Kiss'N'Dance. I've never seen it before but it is used on "Bad Guy", can you please tell me how to go about it. Another thing, I always hit an error when trying to access the Czech Republic and Slovakia charts forcing me to lean on Billboard Hits of the World Songs charts, ever happened to you or it's just my region or device? For Russia, there's All Media chart, I've never seen cited anywhere, I only see radio chart even at {{single chart}}, any reason?
So sorry for bothering you, thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. dxneo (talk) 11:33, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dxneo: I'm not sure about the Romanian Kiss FM chart. I'd lean towards saying it's a WP:SINGLENETWORK chart, but there was previously some consensus about a Romanian radio chart that was an exception to SINGLENETWORK. Not sure if it was Kiss FM or Media Forest. As for the Czech and Slovak charts, AFAIK there are sometimes errors accessing those. I don't regularly add any of the charts you're asking about though. Might be best to ask at Wikipedia talk:Record charts. Ss112 12:49, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the clarification there. Music videos in infobox

[edit]

Hi, I saw your edits on Joker Xue's album pages and I'm confused by your notes "we don't list music videos like this" and "rm gratuitous overlinking to the music videos, which can be seen as promotional. Any more than one link to YouTube should be questioned" because I got the template to include music videos in the infobox from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:External_music_video, where the example for album pages included multiple links to music videos. I don't disagree that music videos, by nature, at promotional as they are there to promote the song but they are also visual/artistic representations of the songs and the album as a whole so they should be included. Would it be better to link to them in the track list? Or is it better to skip them altogether? NotNowAndYet (talk) 05:07, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@NotNowAndYet: I wasn't aware of that, but I wholeheartedly disagree with that example on the template page. It's never like that in practice, and the editor who added that is almost solely an editor involved with the technical and coding templates side of Wikipedia. Anyway, I'm talking about the fact that linking to them gratuitously like that is promotional in and of itself—it's like, "here's all the videos, go and give them a view!" It's akin to linking to Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, or some other page listing the album for sale or streaming, which is discouraged per WP:AFFILIATE. Linking to the music videos for the songs from the album on the album page is not common practice on Western music albums, so I don't think it should be like that for Asian pop articles either. In external links sections or the track listing included. Ss112 07:30, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification re: how the infobox is in practice and what you meant by promotional. I understand your point a lot better now and agree with your perspective. NotNowAndYet (talk) 07:37, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance

[edit]

Hello Ss112, could I please get your assistance with an edit I made at Nublues. I added a Metacritic rating and added a track listing template, however the original creator of the article reverted my edit. The original creator cited that Metacritic only has 4 reviews on the album, and that its not enough for critical consensus. To my understanding, Metacritic is reliable enough with 4 or more reviews, and the tracklisting template makes the article stand out better. Is this correct or not? Thanks --Majash2020 (talk) 06:33, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Majash2020: Yes, some users feel strongly about not using the track listing template, so I wouldn't convert numbered lists to the template in future. If you think using the template would have a benefit, propose it on the talk page and ping the creating editor. As for the Metacritic score being removed, I haven't come across that opinion before. I would propose your edit that it be introduced on the talk page. If you want to start a talk page thread about it being included, I would weigh in and support it. While I've just edited the article and made some style fixes, I can't reintroduce the prose for you. That would be basically edit warring, but I don't see an issue with the score being in the template. Ss112 06:53, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bugzy Malone Edits

[edit]

Thanks for the help on the chart section. I just saw the Spanish and Australian and charts on the B. Inspired page and added them, didn't realise they weren't legit so thanks for sorting that. As for the references/citations, I'm still not 100% on how they work in regards to charts and stuff so apologises for that! Many Thanks. MoonknightPP34 (talk) 15:50, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Continued block evasion by Tim96144

[edit]

Any evidence other than that this editor is from Taiwan? Not saying you 're wrong, but there are close to 24 million people who live there. I'm not sure I'm comfortable assuming anyone editing music charts from Taiwan is Tim96144 absent some other evidence. -Ad Orientem (talk) 15:19, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ad Orientem: The same range, combined with the fact that Tim96144 used to "wait" for me to edit charts (and complain when I was late, like it's my responsibility or duty to do them) before coming in to do anything I'd missed indicates to me that it's him. In the 10+ years I've been adding charts, I've yet to see another Taiwan-based IP editor bother with US charts a couple of hours after they update. Ss112 19:51, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I did a little cross checking and looked at the very thin editing record for such a wide range and am satisfied they are likely the only one editing in it. I have reblocked the /16 range x 6 months. -Ad Orientem (talk) 20:21, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sonny Fodera Rise

[edit]

Hi there, just so you know, the times I entered for the album were from Apple Music. These are very different to what you have entered. Tobyjamesaus (talk) 10:26, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tobyjamesaus: Toby, I think you're confused. This is the normal version of the album. You did not enter track times from that at all. There isn't a single track on Rise that is over 4 minutes long. Your revision had tracks with runtimes all over 4 minutes. What version of the album are you apparently looking at? There's no "extended version" that I'm aware of. Ss112 10:31, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I could screen shot what I have here, I would. The times are exact as per the Apple Music that I am looking at right now. I didn't think it is an extended version or anything. I entered the information as per what I saw. Tobyjamesaus (talk) 10:35, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly enough, when I typed the address into send the URL, the times were the shorter ones (which is what you entered) yet, on Apple Music on my desktop, it is showing the longer ones. That is odd Tobyjamesaus (talk) 10:37, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tobyjamesaus: It appears there may be "original mixes", but these aren't the most widely available versions—not on Apple Music, Spotify or Qobuz anymore. Discogs is showing these original mixes were distributed physically (on vinyl) and perhaps digitally at one point [5]. Even still, I believe the times on the article should reflect the most widely available versions. If you can find a source explaining that Fodera edited all the tracks down, then we could include them all. Ss112 10:44, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Totally fair enough and I agree, we should go with what is the most widely available version. I apologise, I was going by what is on my Apple Music - which I assumed - was widely available. Thanks for fixing anyway. It's very strange that my Apple Music has longer version! haha Tobyjamesaus (talk) 10:52, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About Higher (Burna Boy song)

[edit]

Hello Ss112, thanks for moving the article from Higher (Burna boy song) to Higher (Burna Boy song). I didn't intentionally move it that way, it's just that moving it to Boy didn't work instead redirecting to Burna Boy discography, that's why I moved it to boy. DD57 18:27, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Annoying vandal

[edit]

I see you've met 112.207.8.152 as the latest IP of a long-term problem. They tend to hit a same/similar pool of pages each time, many times. Please report them to AIV ASAP, more efficient than simply reverting them. DMacks (talk) 10:43, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DMacks: I went to, but DatBot already reported them, and it would have been removed as a duplicate entry—I already commented there. Ss112 10:46, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. Well, they're blocked now, so I guess we're all set until a few days from now when they find a new IP. DMacks (talk) 10:47, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding sales to Ariana Grande discography

[edit]

Hi there, I've seen that you participated in discussions regarding Ariana Grande discography before, so I wanted to ask if there is any rule regarding adding sales from MRC/Luminate midyear reports to the album sales column? I added these and another user has reverted it completely, as you can see in the talk page. Flabshoe1 (talk) 22:07, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Flabshoe1: Yes, I've had issues with Mirrored7's edits to that page previously too. They arbitrarily separated Grande's "holiday" singles from her main ones and they've removed "incomplete" sales figures (whatever that means) multiple times, along with the sus logged-out edits of rearranging the sales column. If you can get enough editors agreeing with you on the article talk page, I'd say that's consensus and overrides Mirrored7's made-up rule. Ss112 23:11, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just to follow up, I didn’t know to resolve this stalemate so I opened an RFC to finally close this matter if you’d like to participate, thanks. Flabshoe1 (talk) 15:46, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hey, hope you're doing well! I wanted to make a change but I wanted to consult with you before since I'd appreciate your experience in editing Wikipedia. "Guess" was added to the lead singles table on Charli XCX discography but the originating album included was Brat and It's the Same But There's Three More Songs So It's Not instead of Brat. I wanted to include "Guess" within Brat since the other is neither a reissue nor a brand new album, just a deluxe version. I've seen cases like this and the single is always included within the standard name of the album and it's added a note specifying that it was included in X version of the album. Take as examples Ariana Grande discography, where "Focus" is included within Dangerous Woman, or Britney Spears discography, where "Mood Ring", "Swimming in the Stars" and "Matches" were all included under Glory. I don't want to conflict any edit so, as I said before, I wanted to ask you to shed some light into it. What do you think? Swe97 (talk) 18:21, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Swe97: I don't think it's a big deal. Most users just do that because they want a clean rowspan for an album rather than have it be interrupted by intermittent collaborations and so on. The deluxe edition of Brat was specifically given a different name unlike a lot of deluxe editions. Ss112 18:33, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Finding subject title

[edit]

I know about MOS:CT and you made me read it again, thank you. However, it does appear that the 'a' is capitalised in sources and per WP:COMMONNAME, we should follow that rule, hence my move. You asked "why would I move the page?" Yes! You're right but should also have requested a community consensus or at least open a talk page or even notify me and hear my side or the community's opinion before reverting. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 14:46, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SafariScribe: Sources frequently capitalise all first letters of words in titles, and editors basically never cite COMMONNAME as that's more for what someone is referred to more often in sources rather than the case of letters in sources. If we went by what most sources did for letter cases, then nothing would ever get moved. That is why MOS:CT exists—the first letters of prepositions in the middle of titles are just not capitalised. Shouldn't you have started a move request to move it to On A Spaceship in the first place, then? I was well within my rights to revert you without a discussion per WP:BRD. Nobody, least of all me making a sensible revert, is going to start a move request for something that shouldn't have been moved to the incorrect case in the first place. It's not contentious. Move requests are basically never started in instances like these unless it's a debatable instance where a word in the middle of a title is not a preposition but being used as a phrasal verb, e.g. the case of the "I" in Always In Between. Blanking of articles

[edit]

Hello. Last Wednesday, Binksternet blanked the articles Née-Nah and R.I.P. Screw. He says the sources were not valid just because a lot of them talked about it when talking about their respective albums. What do you think? Please let me know. 50.84.41.243 (talk) 03:01, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@50.84.41.243: I really hope you are not said ban evader but regardless, I don't agree with the blanking of Née-Nah as that's a single and extensively charted. "R.I.P. Screw" is just an album track. See also my message at User talk:50.84.41.243. Ss112 06:58, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Audio sample

[edit]

Hello mate, on this edit summary, you said "do editors not realise this many cover artworks (with two samples right below that aren't discussed critically to boot) is a huge violation of WP:NFCC? I would strongly suggest removing the audio samples too." Looking back at our encounters, you said the same thing here and even boldly removed the sample. Maybe I can learn a thing or two from this if you at least quote which WP:NFCC guidelines did those audio samples violate, because looking at Featured Articles like Red and more, I see 5 media images and 2 audio samples, one thing I do not see is a "critical discussion." How is that? dxneo (talk) 06:30, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dxneo: The only non-free image on Red is the cover art. The others are photographs others have taken of Swift or the people discussed themselves, which are not copyrighted, so NFCC does not apply. Secondly, the two audio samples are discussed critically, meaning they are provided as examples of the sound talked about. Not only were there three pieces of non-free art on Tyla before I removed one, but with the two audio samples still present in addition to the two copyrighted covers, it is a gratuitous abuse of minimal usage (WP:NFCC#2). The extra cover and the two audio samples' absence would not be detrimental to a reader's understanding (WP:NFCC#8) and aren't discussed critically—whoever wrote the article is merely stating what they are. There is one sentence on the sound of "Truth or Dare", and one sentence on the sound of "Jump". That is not a critical analysis of their sound. This is not comparable to Red—critics are quoted directly referencing the sound of those songs on Red's article. You also really shouldn't resort to whataboutism as a defense of the misuse of non-free media on an article you've worked on. Ss112 08:25, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"On "Jump", Tyla sings: "they ain't never had a pretty girl from Jo'burg, see me now and that's what they prefer". It is the only trap-infused song on the album, and includes vocals from Gunna and Skillibeng. "Jump" is a fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall, and hip hop with echoing log drums and percussion that define the amapiano genre. "Jump" opens with an intro by Skillibeng, who compliments Tyla and calls her "an original gyal". Tyla sings the first verse with braggadocio and the single-syllable chorus in a rap-sung cadence. In the second verse, Gunna promises to fulfil Tyla's desires and buy her jewellery. The song ends with an outro by Skillibeng." I seriously don't see how that's not describing the sound and the structure of "Jump". "Truth or Dare" is also the same although I trimmed it a bit months ago. Anyway, I did not see the point you were trying to prove. Thank you tho. dxneo (talk) 08:41, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dxneo: You entirely missed the part or do not understand where I said there is one sentence on the sound of the songs. The other sentences describe the lyrics, and that's not a critical analysis whatsoever. I suggest you learn what a critical analysis is and stay in line with WP:NFCC on articles you work on. Three additional pieces of non-free media that aren't discussed critically should automatically rule this out being a featured article, but for what it's worth, I completely oppose this being a featured article at present. Ss112 09:24, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, would you please scan the description of "Truth or Dare" and "Jump" again, and tell me what more I can add, remove or fix. Finding sources for this was a nightmare. dxneo (talk) 07:52, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand charts

[edit]

Hi Ss112. I would appreciate your input on how to best handle the recent changes in New Zealand charts which are used for certification, discussion here. Muhandes (talk) 16:46, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Again Ss112. I have implemented the changes to {{cite certification}} and the newer NZ charts can be cited directly from the template. I have a problem though which I thought you might help with. It seems the certifications done on the new website are not identical to the older one for example, on the old website, Die with a Smile was certified Platinum on 07 October 2024. However, the same chart on the new website it is not certified at all. Only later a week later was it certified, and only Gold. Any idea what is going on? Muhandes (talk) 13:49, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Muhandes: No idea. If it hasn't happened with any other songs, maybe just an oversight. Ss112 13:53, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I notice it on almost every song I check. "Birds of a Feather" showed double platinum and now shows only single platinum. Muhandes (talk) 14:04, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Muhandes: Well, the only thing I can think of is maybe they changed their thresholds. Gold and so on may be a higher amount now. Ss112 14:08, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That would have been a convenient explanation, but they haven't. The thresholds here are the same as before. Muhandes (talk) 14:12, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Muhandes: No idea then. Ss112 14:16, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I sent them an email, and hopefully the New Zealand people are as nice as the Australian who always answer swiftly. Meanwhile, you can use the new charts to cite certifications using |source=newchart and |id=. Muhandes (talk) 14:21, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My edit to Sam Barber

[edit]

Good evening,

I have absolutely no issue with the Canadian music certification that is sourced. However, the certification's website, at the time I added the marker, did not list Sam Barber amongst its awardees. I also thought it was odd that it was the only unlinked certification. Other than those confusions, no issue at all.

LivePhish series

[edit]

Hi, I saw you nominated the last four volumes of the LivePhish series for deletion since there aren't any good sources available for them.

I agree that these albums likely don't warrant their own articles, but I'd also argue that the rest of the albums really don't need their own articles, either. I'd be happy to condense everything into a single article outlining all the volumes as I believe the series itself is notable enough for an article – but not necessarily one for every single release.

But obviously I don't want to start making drastic changes without some other opinions. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

(As a side note, I'd like to apologize for the whole debacle with tracklist formatting a while ago. Was a stupid and nitpick-y thing of me to do.) Elephantranges (talk)< Elephantranges (talk) 17:35, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Elephantranges: I really don't know enough about the series in general to comment. I only saw these last few volumes as the weakest of the lot. Maybe some volumes have more on them than the others and there'd be more of a focus on those, so I'm not sure how...maybe overstuffed the article would be if it incorporated all volumes.
