Cat-a-lot test edits by User:Shuvam Koleyri
[edit]Hello, Ser Amantio di Nicolao! There is a new Wikipedia editor, Shuvam Koleyri (talk · contribs), who removed categories from over 70 articles for no reason via Cat-a-lot, including those categories added by you (diff). Please, revert his Cat-a-lot edits because they seem like test edits. Russian Rocky (talk) 18:19, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Russian Rocky: I've reverted the edits and left the editor a note. I'm loath to ban because they do seem to be learning as they go, and I don't want to squelch that too early. Also, even though some of the edits were mine, that doesn't mean that I need to be the editor involved - others could have done just as well. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:33, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

As a fellow Puccinian
[edit]Hello! I was wondering whether you could help and improve this draft I started? I am an opera conductor, and very new to Wikipedia!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:George_Jackson_(conductor) Jacksogh1987 (talk) 17:35, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Jacksogh1987: I am currently in the midst of some other tasks (so I can't do a detailed source review) but this article looks like it is written and formatted pretty well. It seems that some of the sources might be a little below the threshold for establishing notability -- I try to keep in mind that there are basically two types of sources. There are a few that are used to establish notability, which are generally going to be WP:SIGCOV in WP:RS, and then the rest can be to substantiate details (for WP:V) and don't really need to contribute to WP:N. In this case, I would advise you to scrounge around a bit harder for stuff like news coverage like, say, an article written entirely about the guy, in a local/regional paper. Also, I've just noticed this, but the fact that the subject of the article seems to closely resemble your username may be an issue (reviewers tend to get butt-blasted about potential COI if you haven't declared it). Hopefully this helps. jp×g 08:34, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Authority control -- huh? what da?
[edit]I have recently become a little fascinated by the authority control templates, although I must admit I'm not sure quite how to work with them myself. Specifically, I am interested in seeing what databases and libraries have entries for the Signpost, and was thinking of filling out an authority control template for it. I know that you add a lot of these: how is it done? Or would it be simpler for you to just fill one out than to explain it to me? jp×g 08:39, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- @JPxG: Honestly, I don't know much about how things are found for authority control. I was adding it a lot of places, but I think Tom.Reding has a bot that adds it only to articles where it will populate, so I stopped doing much with it beyond adding it manually as I create articles. As for how to find databases, I might ask at Template talk:Authority control for more suggestions. I'm somewhat familiar with a handful of biographical databases, mainly, and how to search them, but that's about where it ends - I don't really have any ideas for how to cast a wider net than that. Sorry I can't be of more help. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:38, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

-- Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:00, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Nice. I had Falstaff this past weekend, with Mark Delavan - a local group, Maryland Lyric Opera. (They're fairly new, and trying to get off the ground.) That was Sunday - Saturday was Leonidas Kavakos with the National Symphony Orchestra playing Shostakovich and Bruckner. More on tap for this weekend, including Florence Price on Sunday, hopefully...finally there's an embarrassment of riches around here. (Also, MLO is doing Otello in March, with Delevan and Gregory Kunde - I'm cautiously optimistic.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:13, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- That sounds great. I'm on vacation, and the music was a choir of strong low women's voices at church. I saw Tchaikovsky's The Enchantress in December, the opera the composer loved best, and I hadn't known it exists! DYK has mezzo Elena Manistina who stepped in from the Bolshoi - one of very few to know the role - but without the opera, - sad. Also on the Main page Clytus Gottwald for whom I made a DYK in 2012. I will focus on RD now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:52, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I'm vaguely familiar with the piece through its reputation, but haven't heard very much of it - as I recall, critical consensus is that it's hampered by a weak libretto? Pity, because it's from his best period. (Of all of his operas that I know I'm most partial to The Queen of Spades, which as I recall follows it directly.) I bought my ticket for the Price tonight - it's paired with Shostakovich, the Fifth Symphony. Baltimore Symphony Orchestra - should be good. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:02, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Strong libretto. Enchanting woman said to be a witch by a clergy person, whose boss (Duke) gets enchanted, his wife less so, makes her son go kill the "witch", but he also falls for her ... - clergy and politics didn't like the plot. Tchaikovsky first composed the scene of the young murderer-to-be, 10 minutes later wanting to run away with his victim-to-be. - back from vacation --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:04, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Eight thousand trouts
[edit]Whack! You've been whacked with a wet trout. Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly. |
This is in lieu of eight thousand trouts, for edits like this one at List of cities in Ghana with the edit summary, "Use Nigerian English". Only the tip of the iceberg; for some more examples, see this discussion at WP:VPR. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 03:00, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

- Understandable, and not to worry. I'm actually more concerned with the substantive point of whether these templates should be added at all, than some glitch regarding the edit summaries. Your comments are, of course, welcome at WP:VPR. Mathglot (talk) 03:43, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Wikimedia Foundation project to improve PageTriage
[edit]Hi, as an active New Page Patroller, I wanted to make sure you were aware of an upcoming Wikimedia Foundation project to improve the PageTriage extension. We recently published results of user interviews, and have some findings that we would value patrollers' opinions on. If you haven't yet, please consider adding the project page to your watchlist to stay up to date with our progress! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Redundant categories
[edit]Hey, Ser Amantio di Nicolao. I saw that you, using Cat-a-lot, copied this file to a redundant category. Should it truly be like that? Red Gap (use Canadian English)
[edit]Hi
Glad to meet you! I see that you have posted a note to Red Gap, British Columbia suggesting that it use Canadian English. Could you point out the deficiency to this Canadian.
Cheers
KenWalker | Talk 19:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- @KenWalker: Not deficiency - I was marking it so that future editors might see that it should be in Canadian English, and proceed accordingly; there's been some discussion since as to whether or not this is a useful purpose for the tag, so I've refrained from further tagging. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:49, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

April songs
[edit]my story today |
My story today is about the Alchymic Quartet, - I went away from DYK but it's the last one from last year. - The songs are about vacation, continued. - Three wonderful women singing in Elektra. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:44, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Nothing to report here - it's been fairly quiet for the second half of March. - I loved to see Marian Anderson and her story of protest against discrimination by singing on Easter Sunday 9 April 1939 on the Main page yesterday. Impressions of Easter here and music here: two operas! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:39, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

- @Gerda Arendt: Went to the BSO last night for the Rouse (Symphony No. 6), along with Tchaikovsky (Romeo and Juliet) and Rachmaninoff (Piano Concerto No. 3, with Olga Kern) - it was OK, but not what I expected (specially the Rouse). Reimagining U.S. political discourse
[edit]I'm a big fan of yours and would love to follow in your footsteps, just in the context of public policy.
I've formed a startup with the aim of exposing Americans to proposed policies, making it fun and factual, and ultimately giving citizens a greater say and line of sight on policy developments.
For this to work at scale, I'm looking to wiki culture and best practices for inspiration.
Would you be up for learning more about my endeavor? I'm a fellow commonwealth-er (originally from PA) and share a love for American history and civic values. 67.173.68.26 (talk) 11:23, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Film year categories
[edit]Hello, Ser Amantio di Nicolao. I noticed a number of edits to some of my watchlist pages that look to be ensuring that films are in the top level category for film years (e.g. Category:2022 films). I just wanted to point out that this may be handled already by {{Film date}}. Not that you should stop or anything since listing the category "twice" (once manually and once via template) will still only render it once, but I just wanted to point this out if it might save you some effort... Not sure if it would since automated copying is easy, and discerning if {{Film date}} is being used or not with a more discriminate category copy system would be a lot more labor intensive (if that would be your next goal). Anyway, just wanted to let you know about the auto-population if you didn't already. Happy editing! -2pou (talk) 17:28, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- @2pou: I didn't know about it, actually - but I think I'll continue adding the category, at least whenever I think about it. I'm always a fan of doing that, because it saves trouble if something happens to the underlying template to screw it up. I've never been a fan of templates that autopopulate categories, honestly - call me peculiar, but it's one of my quirks. Thanks for the pin tip. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:05, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Question
[edit]Hey, I want to know what type of editor you mostly use. Visual editor or source editor? Waterard (talk) 04:43, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Waterard: I use source editor because it's what I'm used to - I remember the old days, without all the bells and whistles, and I still do a lot of editing in the old style. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:06, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
May music
[edit]my story today |
---|
And Misatango came, so I had a good story on coronation day: the Te Deum we sang that day. And the following day we sang it for the composer ;)
I heard pleasant music today - did you know a string quartet with two cellos (and no article yet in English? - I nominated Soňa Červená for GA just to give her a bit more exposure. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I do not, no. Last night I heard one of the local orchestras do Carl Nielsen's Symphony No. 4 - incredible. Coupled with a piece by Jessie Montgomery and the Cello Concerto of Dvořák - they were alright, but I was blown away by the Nielsen, which I've never heard live before. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:47, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- thank you, I'll watch out for it! - May scenery pictured when you click on songs - incredible mad scene in Hercules, with extraordinary Paula Murrihy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:45, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Last night here was the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra with someone I believe you're familiar with? New works by Grace-Evangeline Mason (The Enchanted Rooms) and Xavier Foley (a new double-bass concerto which he played himself), and the Pathétique. He's music director-designate, so we'll be hearing a lot more of him in the future. I'm not sure yet what I think, but I'm cautiously optimistic. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:33, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Interesting! - He was my brother's chief conductor - brother also a bassist - small world. I pictured him when he announced that they dedicated the concert to the people in Ukraine. - more pics, also new memory and music, and ten years ago I had a DYK for my most serious article --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:14, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Pentecost was full of music, Mahler 1 (with brother pictured, but very small). my story today is that 300 years ago today, Bach became Thomaskantor, with BWV 75, writing music history. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:27, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Last Sunday I took in an organ concert at the Washington National Cathedral; Carson Cooman playing Gunther Firlinger, Carlotta Ferrari (not the one for whom we have an article), Yûitirô Katô, Frederick Frahm, Eva-Maria Houben, Ayọ̀ Olúrántí, and Thomas Åberg . Interesting concert - I can't say I enjoyed it all, but it was a challenging and thought-provoking program. This week is my own choir concerts, with much music by our composer-in-residence. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:41, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Reverse an edit
[edit]I am sure you are snowed under with so many requests. I am brand new ( today ) to Wiki and have no idea how to reverse an edit. The below was edited out of Charles III's page as it looks like the editor was keen to slice down a large page. He took out a large chunk of the article and among that chunk of text was the below ( in Wiki text below )
He cited WP:UNDUE - I agree that most of the 7k he removed was UNDUE -but I don't think the below section is - this company - who I know of ( but I a thinking impartially ) Have partnered with King Charles since 2019. The announcement of his collaboration with the due VIN + OMI went world wide with over 200 articles ( some below - final link is King Charles mentioning the designers )
The previous edit and paragraph removal is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Charles_III&diff=prev&oldid=1150107618
If the text can be put in again. Maybe the below can be added back it ( with a small addition to update it ) I've edited it down in total words
In 2019 it was announced that Charles had collaborated with UK designers VIN + OMI to produce a line of clothing made from waste nettles from his Highgrove Estate.
VIN + OMI continue to collaborate with King Charles and his estates, turning a range of waste materials into new textiles and products alongside a large education programme.
It would be wonderful if you could help - let me know if I can send you something for your trouble
Thank you

"Birth / death" categories for non-organisms
[edit]Hi! You've added "birth / death" categories for some articles on non-organisms, such as in this diff. Could you please tag articles about organizations with "established/disestablished" tags instead? — The Anome (talk) 11:26, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
- @The Anome: I'm...honestly not sure what happened there. I would expect it to be some kind of residual artifact from another AWB run, but I've looked at a handful I did at the same time and it seems to have affected very few of them. Apologies for not spotting, but...again, I'm not quite sure where it went wrong. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:16, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
- No worries! My bot editing occasionally goes wrong too, and I end up having to mass-revert things to clean up after it. I just thought you'd like to know something odd had happened. — The Anome (talk) 10:50, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Mads Lundby Hansen and Mikkel Bjørn
[edit]Hello Ser Amantio di Nicolao. Thank you for editing my article about Danish economist Mads Lundby Hansen. I was wondering if you would like to take a look at the currently disputed article of mine about Danish politician Mikkel Bjørn and help make it more objective and less promoting? Best regards, --Marginataen (talk) 16:31, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Marginataen: I'm sorry, but I don't really know very much about Danish politics - I can help out a little with categories, but that's about all I can do. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:12, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
- Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Marginataen (talk) 17:13, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Women in Red
[edit]Thank you, Ser Amantio di Nicolao, for adding the Women in Red template to your user page. I know you have been a member of the project since November 2016 but I hope this means you intend to devote more of your editing time to articles about women. In any case, your interest in the project should serve as an inspiration to other contributors. Given your interest in music, we can perhaps expect some contributions to WiR's focus on music this month.--Ipigott (talk) 15:06, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

One of the women: Gabriele Schnaut whom I saw twice, not Wagner and Strauss, but Bach and Weill. - Vacation pics! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:35, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: This was a double-header weekend for me. Saturday: the National Orchestral Institute (a very fine group of fellowship students that come to the University of Maryland every summer) playing Roman Carnival, Lilacs by George Walker, and the Symphony No. 4 of Prokofiev, under Joseph Young at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center; not sure how I felt about the program, but the performance was stellar. Sunday: Semele at The Barns at Wolf Trap, with young artists, including Norman Treigle's granddaughter - a lot of fun. More NOI this weekend: Carlos Simon, Jennifer Higdon, and the Brahms First under Marin Alsop. Sometimes it's very nice to live in this area. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:29, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, and same here. The Festival began, and today will be the third concert! - Today: a woman caught by the iron curtain (improved with SusunW and GRuban), yesterday: the Mass in B minor, heard in concert then, three musical videos are out, and vacation pics. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:10, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

American painters at Musée d'orsay
[edit]Hello Amantio, I contribute regularly to the page "Musée d'Orsay" (in French) and Cassatt, Eakins, Homer, Tanner, Sargent and Whistler are already mentionned in the main list of artists in the collection, but I'd like to add to it 1 or 2 US painters : so which ones are the most famous in the US according to you, who seem a specialist in architecture, and I hope, in art too, among those ones : William Merritt Chase, William Morris Hunt, Cecilia Beaux, Thomas Alexander Harrison, John White Alexander, Leon Dabo, William Turner Dannat (NB : the painting of Childe Assam is deposed in Blerancourt museum) ? Thank you. - @194.153.110.6: Apologies for missing this yesterday, but I was busy all day. Of the names you list, the two I would definitely add to the list would be Chase and Cecilia Beaux. Perhaps Hunt as well, but Chase and Beaux would be my picks for the first two. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:32, 27 June 2023 (UTC)

On today's Main page, you can find a cantata that Bach first performed 300 years ago, and an iconic saxophonist from East Germany. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:33, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
